The only store in Beaumont tx. Where we found a bike day after Christmas for a neighborhood child that didnt get much of anything for Christmas. After explaining the situation they held the bike until we got there .to pick it up. We were so thankful, they helped us help a neighborhood child

Yesterday we visited the gun counter and encounter a rude (really wanting to use a bad descriptive word here) older male employee there. My son use to work at an academy gun counter and they were to be able to send requested guns from one store to another. The academy in louisiana didnt have the gun and we dont want to buy online because they do not do refunds on them if the gun may not be up to your standards. So we traveled 30 miles to this one in texas. My son starts off his question with Im from louisiana... Immediately the man goes nope, nope, nope my son tries to continue by saying, I was wondering... the man interrupts again nope, nope, nope by this point I want to smart off to him to let us finish the freaking question (insert choice word here). The my son continues, if you guys.... when another employee joins in no, nope. By this time we just stop and says, ok, thanks for your help. Im really flabbergasted! When has customer service declined so much that a customer cant finish a question? Let alone have friendly service? I do know very well that employees are who represent a store and the goal is to make a customer feel welcome so return shopping is a guarantee. I guess well just be staying in lake charles academy from now on.
Good Morning, I just want to give a Huge THANK YOU !!! To Mrs. Diana(Manager) this Morning. I was in need of a Jersey for my sons football game, Early this morning. She not only got the Jersey for me, but she allowed me to come before the store opened, and waited for me at the front!! I have visited this location about 3 times between now and December. Probably the most Ive ever been to academy! The service at this store is top notch! The door greeter whos name I cant remember was very friendly and helpful. I know his name starts with a D! The firearm counter associates were very helpful as well helping everyone as quickly as they could. During the holiday season the lines were pretty long to check out. I wasnt looking forward to the line, but it went so fast! They had plenty of cashiers!
Was looking for Carhartt clothes and found them after asking a sales person. As you enter the store Carhartt will be to the left rear of the store. Found some great shorts, a little pricey though. Allot of people were shopping, they could have used some more cashiers. Great place to shop though. My wife was not so lucky, seems about all they have for women is the stretchy tight stuff. Not my wifes cup of tea.
I love academy but they’re just like every other store. They have “sales” but not really sales. They’ll advertise something saying it was originally $44.99 and with the sale it’ll be $39.99. As someone who goes almost every week you know it’s been $39.99 for months. They raise the price then list it as a sale back down to the original price.
Product selection is good, service can stand to be improved-- especially at the registers where the cashiers look at each other to see who will call the next customer, or just look away all together to avoid eye contact. If you dont like your job, go work somewhere else. Very frustrating with 5 open registers and not calling any customers to them.
The last three times I went in, I walked out and left a cart full of merchandise due to customers lined up from the registers all the way back to sporting goods. Complete waste of peoples time but never again for me. The consumers shouldnt be inconvenienced due to staffing issues on the part of the store. But, if people are willing to put up with it itll never change and obviously management isnt capable of figuring it out on their own. Go figure.
Purchased ATF shotgun when I assembled the gun after I brought it home the receiver jammed Returned the gun to store they sent it off to there repair facility. The company stated it was not a warranty problem. After several visits to the store the store director Mr Reynolds called me and stated all they could do was offer me a 100 dollar gift certificate and told me he was sorry. Mr Reynolds was kind and I certainly understand his position since he was given direction from his bosses.Very disappointed with this decision as I really liked going to the store and purchasing my sporting equipment, clothing and running shoes.Needless to say I told him to keep his 100 dollars and gun.I don’t blame the local manager or the employees it was his manager that refused to honor the products they sell and rep.
Great customer service. Was getting a curl bar that was 29 dollars on the sticker, but said 44 dollars at the register. I said let me go look again. The man said just take a picture and bring it back. I did and he without question gave it to me at the sticker price. I wish all businesses was that easy to deal with.
I ordered online for curbside pickup and item was brought out to me with the security tag still attached! They told me to come back and they would detach if I brought back but I need to bring inside... Shopping here has been such an inconvenience.. smh.. oh and calling customer service was a joke because after waiting 10 minutes to talk to somebody their phone system cut out every other word and then just hung up so dont waste ya time!
Assortment of products was quite limited. This location seemed to have more empty shelves than stocked ones.With all the barricade tape blocking off the gun/ knife counter, we got so tired of walking around trying to find the entrance that we just left.VERY disappointing trip to this store. We wont be back any time soon.
So I went looking for a light weight comfortable walking shoe. I found several styles, but they did not have my size.I started scouring the aisles, again found two desirable styles. It was time consuming to look for my size, I was successful, but it took two hours for what should have been 30 minutes max. FYI, I was not the only customer having difficulty.
Horrible customer service at the gun counter. Every time we go there it takes too long to get help. They don’t go by the number or even acknowledge your presence but keep chatting with each other or ignore the next person waiting. 8 people waiting and 1sales person behind counter was bulls*^+^ing around with friend. Then at front checkout line when we approach counter checker turns to other employees behind counter and starts complaining she wants to go home. After asking if this lane was still open she continues to complain to them while they’re looking at us like we are intruding. Finally turns around and starts complaining to us. Very sorry service.
I had to wait almost 30 minutes in the bike department for assistance. On 5-17-19 for help to purchase 2 bikes. The employee that finally helped me said he had the whole back wall of the store by himself for customer assistance. Not very well staffed for the beginning of the weekend. Not his fault he was very nice. They need to be better staffed for typical busy days and times of the week..
Im in there every week, I know 1/2 the associates by name, and the other 1/2 by sight. They have been very helpful, and they know when they are not sure of the answer, to find someone who does. I have been impressed many times, including the ever hectic Black Friday, when Travis and Melissa both did an outstanding job. Even little Evelyn working the register had a great attitude. I have and will continue to recommend them. Ty Still awesome customer service!
This particular store has changed their internal layout and it is for the better. There shoe selection is large and prices are good. They have all the BBQ gear you could ask for including lump charcoal and a fair selection of pellets for your pellet smokers. Flashlights, knives, guns, gear, clothes, boats, and anything else you can ogle while inside. They have a decent selection of AR-10/15 and other semi autos. Lots of pistols to choose from as well. Bicycles and weightlifting gear is plentiful in this store as well.
I chose to do the curb side pick up .. never again.. I sat there 35 minutes and no one showed up to knowledge my order .. so I called the phone number that is on the sign .. 6 times with no answer.. finally the 7th call someone picked up . I told the lady what was going on and she said they would have my order out as soon as they can .. sat in my truck another 12 minutes then got a phone call for me to pull up to the front to get my order but there was one person ahead of me but yet I was sitting in curb side pick up alone .. so i had to wait another 15 minutes to get my order.. never again will I do curb side pickup
I chose my rating solely on customer service. I would have given them 2 stars had it not been for my cashier. I needed help getting some chest waders. No employee was around so I went to customer service where they called for an associate to help me. The associate was supposed to meet me back there. After about 10 minutes, I decided to just take the display and pay for them. The cashier called around for permission to give me a discount although I hadnt asked for one. I applaud her customer service passion.
Love this place! My best friends 10 year old is going to church camp for the first time ever today and yesterday we went all over Beaumont trying to find some water shoes for him. Of course we didnt go to Academy until we exhausted all other options but boy did we realize how much time we wasted once we got inside and found the perfect water shoes for his son. Finally a store that had the correct size, style and the price was unbeatable. Shouldve started here!
Everyone here seems like theyre having a good time working with each other. Most people are smiling and happy to help! The pricing is fair and the quality of their products is what you would expect from a specialty store. Academy has great shoes, great back to school stuff, great sport/ing stuff. Overall, Im happy to shop here when I do! And, its the best place to buy Lamar University gear! Go Cards!
Visited the firearms section of the store. The clerk was busy with another customer. I had no problem with that. My complaint was that the clerk did not even acknowledge my presence. When he read for something on the counter, in front of me...no excuse me or Ill be with you in a minute, just a look at me that suggested get out of my way. Unfortunately...typical modern day service!
Fun fact...on the front of the store is a giant sign that says price match any advertised price they even say they can beat the advertised price by 5%... its a lie... I even called ahead and asked if they price matched and they said yes they would price match as long as the price was a SALE price and not a CLEARANCE price... however when I got there and asked if they would price match CABELAS SALE price (in big letters it says sale), I was told no. They said they wouldnt do it because the advertised price ended with a 7.Need to change the sign from match any advertised price to we might match a few prices, but probably not.Well played Academy... but that GIANT sign is false advertisement...
I had to have a specific kind of shoe do to foot problems. I had researched and seen they had two different styles. When I went in the store to the shore departmentthere was a sales person in the area who quickly assisted me. He was knowledgeable and happy to help.The one negative is there waa only 1 register open and a big line of people. They did open 2 service desk lines to help which was good.
Took forever to get help at the rebels. And then when we did th girl had an attitude because she was upset with someone else. She was not helpful. We spoke with a manager on the way out to get the item we want. He was very helpful and is actually going to call us when he gets one off the truck.
So I tried this Beaumont Academy again, surprisingly the experience was some what pleasant. I still think the service is a bit lacking, the selfs are empty and you still cant find a associate for the limited stock they have. But my recent gun purchase went surprisingly well, so maybe Ill try the Beaumont location again. This location still has a long way to go, but it seems management might be training these employees a lil better. All I can say is go to the Beaumont location at your on risk. If you like customer service and so what stocked selfs go to Mid County location.
My wife and I went to Academy today to look at a firearm that I was interested in purchasing. The employees behind the counter were rude and treated me like I was stupid the whole time that I was there. Unless you like being treated this way, I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. I know I will.
Nice eclectic group of items offered. I went for camping stuff and was honestly disappointed in the amount of tents though. The layout of the camping area was a little awkward but Ive never been here before so may be that. We quickly found an associate who pointed us in the right direction :)
This is an excellent Academy. Better than the one in Port Arthur as this one carries The North Face outdoor gear line and Port Arthur does not. Their firearm collection and their prices are incredibly reasonable if not very good. For many reasons, including shoes and sportswear, this is a good Academy. Not clean or organized particularly, but good.
Excellent customer service. Thanks Warren store manager. I purchased a Crawfish Keg that I love. A piece broke off my burner. Because of the new burner design Warren replaced my crawfish keg with a new one. I would give you 10 stars if it was an option. Cindy was terrific as well. Very understanding.
First off we pulled a number and third was 1 person ahead of us so after 3 PEOPLE got thier guns and left we were helped!!! Do not come here to buy your first gun me and my girlfriend went in to the store to purchase her first gun not knowing what to look for she asked me to see if it was fine and I looked at it and we filled out all of the paperwork and then he told us he cant sell her the gun because he feels like its for me even though we told him that this was her first gun purchase I will take all of my buisness somewhere else and I spend too much money here on bullets so this place left a very bad taste in our mouths for academy!!!!
We were looking for a few things. Camo/rubber/insulted boots for my wife and daughter also looking for female hunting clothes. There is a very small selection in both and they did not find their sizes. My wife did buy her a rifle that she has been wanting. The gentleman that helped her was very knowledgeable. The process was easy and effortless. He bore sighted the rise for her and we headed home. We will go back in the future.
I am shocked that this place has a 4.2 rating before this post.I came in tonight, literally walked the complete circle around the store before I could find an employee onsite to ask where the restroom was.I then went to the shoe section, not one time was I asked if I needed any help.Even on the way out of the store, not one person spoke to me.So my evaluation, the customer service is horrible.I will not be back. I will go to the mall, like I was told to do in the first place.Horrible. The employees, should be ashamed of themselves. Period.
Hard to find employees. Everything winter either sold out or on clearance January 1st!? when I finally appropriated a cashier to help me hunt I found a 2nd employee who was very personable and tried to be very helpful, knowing they were really sold out of everything!
We were in need of a last minute some college apparel for my 5 year old granddaughter to wear for her college and career day at Kindergarten. We were trying to find an affordable Lamar University shirt for her so we decided to start out on their Clearance racks. We were in luck with two great buys! We found her a long sleeve Lamar University shirt and to her surprise we found a Lamar cheerleader outfit that was marked way down so we purchased both items. She wore the cheerleader uniform that next day and was so proud of how she looked. Will be back for more great buys.
An associate named Rachel was awesome! Such a delightful personality and an enormous help! In this day and time, finding such an employee is star in any companys hat. Thank you Academy for hiring such a lady AND a HUGE THANKS AND HUG TO RACHEL! You made my day and shopping experience so enjoyable.
Return policy is terrible. I brought an item back. Brand new in perfect condition. Was exchanging the item for a similar thing. They did not have what I wanted. Went back to customer service. My item was broken. And I was told that I brought it in that way. When I know that I didnt. I will no longer shop at academy.
I have always been a fan of this location and store. Really cant beat the prices in terms of sports equipment or hunting gear. I think they are building a Dicks in Beaumont, but honestly dont even bother with Dicks because they are going to be extremely higher prices than Academy.
Terrible customer service. My son was in line for 10 minutes waiting to check out. The lady in front of him was finishing up and then the cashier just walked away leaving my son there. How do you leave a customer who has been waiting for over 10 minutes and not check them out?!
Every trip here has been a nightmare.- The juveniles behind the gun counter were condescending to my wife, insisting she should buy a pink gun.- Nobody has ever offered assistance, except on one occasion.- Questions about where products are located are answered with vague over yonders or by a product that I equally have no idea where its located. The notion of giving me an aisle number is a lost concept apparently.- Absolute lack of engagement at the register. I realize you hate your job...I hated working my retail job as a cashier, but at least I tried.It sucks this is the only sporting goods store here. At the time of this writing Gander Mountain was going out of business.
Good selection of various sporting goods equipment at competitive prices, but be prepared for few clerks on the floor, and really long lines when checking out. Be sure your phone is charged and your kids have snacks.....you WILL be standing in line awhile. I try to order from Amazon because of this, but sometimes you just need an item right away or need to see it in person.
I was very unimpressed with the condition of this store. The selection was very limited and what was there was in disarray. It seemed like the store was understaffed. I hope they can work there problems out. Academy use to be a really fun place to shop. This was my first visit in several years. January 5, 2018
I bought a lot of fishing equipment from Academy, but 2 weeks ago I bought 3 rods a couple of reels and some other gear, one of the reels I bought broke ( an h2o) which you can only buy at Academy, I tried to exchange it but Im stupid and lost the receipt so they would not exchange the reel and the girl at customer service was rude and treated me like I was trying to rip them off. I will never set foot in this store again and I wont be buying and h2o products any more. Going to miss my buddy in the fishing department.
I was sold a used product in a tore up box. When I got it home, it wouldnt work, and found out it was used. I took it back, and I had to fight with them to take it back. They werent going to because the Box wasnt brand new (even the other supposed brand new item, same as the one I bought, on the shelf had a torn up box also), and they werent able to put it right back on the Shelf KNOWING the product was bad. I caught the store manager trying to commit fraud, I reported them to corporate. Corporate was not happy at all about this. Never again will this place see my business, nor my familys.
I am incredibly displeased with this store. My boyfriend and I shop here frequently and spend plenty of money, however we were accused of stealing and asked to leave by Kelly. Never have I been so disrespected in my life with these false accusation. Kelly has caused this store to lose two frequent shoppers. I will tell those I know to never shop here again. I will now gladly drive 20 minutes to the one in PA.
Its always a pleasure here, I remember buying my first Ambassadeur baitcaster and the plastic lure buffet they had in the 90s when they were in their previous location. Being a Texas based company, Im more than happy to shop here and keep my money within the state. Hunting, fishing, sports, outdoor wear, work wear...selection is always great, except hiking and camping gear. Gander Mountain excelled in these, and I can understand why it would be perceived as having little support for it in our area, hence the lack of product offering. But on the contrary, advanced technology has made the development of more functional and valuable equipment and gear beyond the classic recreational sentiment hiking and camping garners. Hopefully they expand further in this department.
I had purchased a pair of steel toe work boots about 1 -1/2 yrs. ago that were in need of replacement. So, I took them baxk to Academys customer service department for an exchange. The representative provided such excellent customer skills in handling my exchange! I was completely satisfied, and I will certainly recommend ALL of family and co-workers to shop at Academy for all their work related andd out doors needs.
The Gun bar associate pony-tail guy has the worst customer service ever. The Know-it-all will be the reason sales will drop in this department. I absolutely love this store and i spend over $100 a week here, but for my gun needs i go elsewhere. If you visit the Gun bar you will see what i mean People of any color. After all were all AMERICAN!!!!
I would give it a full 5 stars if the could work on the organization of the shoe department. I know its hard keeping thing organized with customers putting things where ever they want but it would be nice to be able to find the shoes you want in the place it is supposed to be.
I had to go to service desk and ask them to call for help in ladies wear. 8 people standing around up front talking. No one waiting on customers. And I so felt like I was in Walmart. 15 registers. 3 open. 6 people in every line. A man asked a lady standing at a register if she was opening she told him no that wasn’t her job. Apparently it wasn’t no one else either
Went here to buy my first gun it was a 12 gauge mossburge. I choose the gun I wanted and I looked at the gun then handed It to my boyfriend ( who minds you knows way more about a gun then I do) for him to look over it go make sure its good quality and good priced and I get it back mess with it then hand it to the guy we walk over to the counter to do the background check and paper work stuff well I gave him my id and he was like this gun is for you correct and I say yes it will be my gun I will own it. The guy (butch) tells me are you positive its for you and not him . And once again I said no its for me. Well he said I have doubts about wheater it will be your gun and not be given to him because you didnt know how to look for things. And I simply told him I handed it to my boyfriend to check for me because he knows more about it then I do. He continues to grill me about the gun and having my boyfriend look at and handle the gun. Then he starts doing all the paperwork and things and had me do the little tablet thing I finish the tablet paper work then he comes back and tells me I think this is a strawl sale so I will not sell you the gun. All because my boyfriend looked over it for me. I have seen many people come in here with there husbands boyfriends dads brothers and have then check the gun out for then and they didnt deny them the gun. So my boyfriend I and will be taking our business else where. Because we do or should I say did spend a lot of money here on bullets and tannerite. They will not be having our business again they have left us very unsatisfied. The only reason they got a one star is because I cant give them a negitive star rating.
Great place to take kids for school shopping one stop shop from backpacks to clothes to shoes everything that you need is pretty much their bread place to buy ammo and guns pretty much everything that you need for outdoor activities me my family sure shop there a lot reasonable prices great customer service very helpful people that work there they have not let us down ever since weve been going there

2022-07-02Great selection, with plenty of help on the sales floor. But they had a really, really long line for check out. But is was forth of July weekend so thats probably making things busy. We have been in here other times and the line wasnt long at all.

2022-06-07Ive been shopping there for 28 years. Today I went there to get a fishing rod replaced that was bought on line but broken during shipment to me. The problem was corrected without a hitch. Thanks

2022-01-07Was buying fishing gear. Probably had around $500 worth of merchandise. The cashier went to get a price on a rod & reel. I waited for 30 minutes and she never came back. It was the week before Christmas and very busy, but that could have been handled better. I just left the buggy at the checkout and walked out.

2022-01-04Can find most things I need inside this store. However, since it is off the freeway it is normally filled.to the brim with people and the line to check out Is awful. Other than that, the store seems to be well organized. Im hoping to see a future self check out line too if possible because the wait can be over 30 minutes at some points to check out. If you can avoid the store then I would for some of the others in the area.

2022-02-01The store was clean , and was greeted whilst walking in. The sales person at the firearms counter didnt seem very eager to assist in purchasing a firearm. Online it showed the gun I wanted in stock, he said that was wrong, and assured me there were none in stock. I asked him again and he went and looked only to say that they were out . So I settled on a more expensive gun, and when he goes to get it he happened to find the gun he said was out of stock which tells me he never looked to begin with. I then asked them to price match a competitor so they say ok. Then , he takes his sweet time finding a technicality to keep from matching the price. He almost lost the sale altogether. If he would have spent the same time and energy in helping a customer as he did trying to keep from the discount Id have given 5 stars on this review. Maybe time to start hiring sales minded individuals.

2020-11-29The staff is nice and so is the selection of work out clothes and work boots. I feel like you can get the clothes cheaper other places though, I wish they had better/more sales. I also got all my sons football gear there and it was mostly all at one store so that was convenient.

2022-02-26Nice store, but not much in the way of hunting and fishing gear. Lots of kid sport stuff tho. Only way to rate this store is by my lifestyle. I used to leave an Academy with alot of hunting related purchases, but this left this specific Academy with 0 purchases the last 2 visits. So, no longer my Academy. Maybe because my kids are grown? Dont know. Dont care. ):
