If this is Academy in Grapevine? I will probably go out of my way to Void this store. Manager was a real tool.Ended up going back to the academy on 820 and Davis. The manager there worked with me on a problem return. Very nice people in customer service. Not the same experience at all in Grapevine?
Extremely crowded but expected given the holidays. Good on them they had all registers open but the lines were still to the middle of the store. I was just looking to convert to non-inflatable camping pads. They only had two options but huge options of inflatable pads and mattresses. Long standing academy when all the other sports have died out.
Young unexperienced workers, I tried to do an even exchange and they were trying to charge me the difference because the sale was not going on anymore. There was 3 people trying to figure it out and wanted me to pay again because they had returned it without letting me know. It’s basic algebra.
Clean store even around the Christmas time. If it’s not in stock they will get it for you. They are fully staffed and eager to help customers.Stop by for your health, fitness, hunting, fishing, grilling, dog, clothes, and needs today for any adventure. All for a lower less price.
Bait and switch. The guy at the gun counter advised me to buy a kind of ammunition I had never tried. When I got home, I realized it didn’t work for my fire arm so I brought it back to exchange for another type. They failed to tell me at any point the sale was final. Not the guy at the counter, or my cashier. The customer service agent was very rude about this and acted like I was offending him by trying to make this exchange. There are enough other sporting good stores around that I can drive a bit further for much better customer service.
Terrible service from darlene at customer service. I was in line behind a gentleman, and I noticed Darlene looking at me and mentioned something about my mask to her co worker. Never have I been treated differently for wearing a mask at a place of business. She looked at the couple behind me, that came after me, and proceeded to help them before me. The treatment of discrimination I received from Darlene, because I choose to protect my immune compromised family was quite disappointing, and truthfully hurtful. No one should treat people in such away because of their own personal beliefs about the pandemic. My family and I shop at academy often, but we will now move our business elsewhere.
Came to look for some lifting apparel and some crossfit shoes. They own the reebok brand but dont carry the nano crossfit shoe and very little in mens clothing. For a 2 story shop i figured they would be more stocked up then academy. They do have a better selection of power racks and actually have bumper weights.
Prices a bit high. Good customer service. Ordered online, picked up in store. Said stock was in when it wasnt. Had to do 2 online orders instead. Product came to store damaged without an item in box, had to exchange. Online rep gave me a discount on 1 future purchase.
At first I thought it was going to be difficult to find tennis shoes because the first isle was pretty sparse. But I did find a pair of the next isle that were perfect. And by the time I browsed through hunting and fishing there were a couple of pretty long lines for checkout. It went pretty quickly with the young man at returns calling the next person from each line alternating. Love my Sketchers.
Im usually approached by at least one eager employee who asks if I found what Im looking for. The lines are usually a little bit longer than I would like, but that just means the store is good at what it does. I would be more than a little suspicious of a store that never has any lines. They almost always have what Im looking for, and especially when the website says they have something in stock. Its very annoying to go to a store when the website for that store says they should have an item in stock, and you look all over for it to no avail. Overall, a good experience.
Walked into store to purchase football cleats which showed they were in stock. After about 15 minutes of searching, I grabbed an employee to search up top for us. He apologized and stated he too was unable to locate them. While in the store, ordered shoes online. Walked near the front of store, manager politely asked, is there anything he could help us locate. Advised him I had just placed an order online. He goes to look for shoes, they were in a different location. Walked us to the front and checked us out.Employee training opportunity...
I purchased a bicycle for my granddaughter right after Thanksgiving to give to her as a Christmas gift. I hid the bike and gave it to her on December 19. The front tire was flat. I aired up the tire and the next morning it was flat again. I called this store and the person I spoke with told me I could just come in and buy a new tube. He did offer to have someone put it in the bike tire but I would have to pay for the tube. I was not happy with that response. On December 21 I took the bike to the store and started to explain that I was not happy with the telephone response and hoped for a better resolution. Before I could even explain the entire problem the two employees I visited with told me they would replace the tube and put in in the tire for me. After my previous phone conversation I was expecting a bad experience at the store and had made up my mind that I would write a bad review. The two men in the store completely changed my attitude with their rapid assessment and response of correcting the problem. I was very impressed and needed to follow up with a positive review of the store employees. They quickly fixed the bicycle but allowed me enough time to make a personal purchase. I am very happy and looking forward to going back to this store!
I went in for a holster and walked out with so much more. Josh, the employee who helped me out was perfect to work with. He got exactly what I asked for and had an answer for anything else I thought up. Ask for him on your next firearm visit, you wont be disappointed.
Wish I could give no stars for the experience on this visit. There was only 1 cashier at the customer service desk who was tied up with a customer but didnt even acknowledge the line that was forming to be checked out. When we asked if we were supposed to wait there, the employee seemed irritated and said she would be with us when shes done. A simple and friendly Ill be with you guys in a minute would have been nice so we knew she was aware we were there. Then after the attitude, a customer service manager walked right by the line with only the 1 employee who was busy, and then just walked away to the back. There was multiple employees walking around and not one of them acknowledging that there is a line of customers waiting to be helped. Then another employee went to a register, but she started helping a lady who just walked up in front of all the customers already waiting. Finally a young man came to the register and proceeded to quickly and very politely check us out and was considerate of who was there first. This was the worst experience I have ever had here! If I didnt have a gift card for there, I definitely would have left.
We went for life jackets and oars. We found 2 sided oars and they are beautiful! Unfortunately we couldnt find any life jackets. The selection was very low and Im a bigger person and they all looked WAY to small for me. I was a bit disappointed that they didnt have a bigger selection to select from. But overall a good experience.
Was greeted at the door which is a plus for me. Was lacking in customer service. Workers on the floor did not offer to help me find what I was looking for. They did not even say hello! Seemed as if they were avoiding eye contact so that I wouldnt ask for their help... there were some that were just standing there talking about their day and no help.
To whom it may concern,I stopped by to purchase a new driver, the store did not have in stock what I had in mind, but the store manager Jackson was quick to help and be of great service. He had great advice about the new Calloway driver and I left with a new X-Hot. I will definitely go back!
Did an online pick up order. 2 of my items were cancelled because they were not in stock. Went to the store FOUND THE ITEMS MYSELF and when i brought them to the pick up counter the manager couldnt reverse it, for whatever reason. So ended up having to pay for my items a 2nd time and now have to wait a week to get my money back. If the runners would actually look for items ordered that would be great!
This Academy doesn’t know what is going on within their store. I went to this location to return something. We spoke with the gentleman out front and asked if we can return a bike here. He checked with the manager and welcomed us inside. As soon as we got to the return desk the old lady who was doing returns started to complain we were returning a product. She grumpily processed it and right before we left she gave us a lecture on locations that take returns. It was a terrible experience. Friendly, consistent, and clear communication is key.
I had a great experience, today. The young man who checked me out was very nice and personable. I wished I would have gotten his name but I think he was a manager. We talked a little about basketball and the weather. Its always nice when employees have good customer service skills.
When I pulled in for car pickup an employee was trying to give an order to the car parked in front of me and the lady in the car saying no. As the employee turned to walk back into the store I see the shape of 2 shoe boxes and a Yeti cup which I had in my order so I yell out my window to stop her and she repeatedly tells me no, its not my order. I tell her exactly what my order was and asked her to PLEASE check the bag! She then looks at the paper inside the bag and asks my name... I tell her... she looks surprised when it matches. Im glad I didnt have to wait but how close it came to possibly going to someone else!
This would have been a 5 stars review if they would have checked the shirt first before giving it to me. I had order this before a couple hours for a baseball game ( curbside pickup )come to find out they didn’t take off the security tag. And if anyone has ever tried to take one off it’s hard ! Without the proper tools.My husband struggled for 25 minutes trying to take it off , and yes we’ve looked up YouTube Videos to try to get it off because we have a baseball game to go to . We shouldn’t struggled the way we did , but sadly we did and it was upsetting. I know humans aren’t perfect but also security tags are hard to take off. And maybe it’s also my fault for not checking the shirt before leaving , learned my lesson though.
Horrible place if you want to buy a bike I bought one from here a couple years ago first time riding it down the street the chain pops off and snaps. So I take it back get a new one the breaks quit day 2 I took back the bike 3 times same result the staff insulted me threatened me behind my back and my dad caught them gossiping about me when he went in one day about the bike thing. Not cool not professional dont go here
We have created this Academy ever since it was built. It is always been a clean well-stocked an employer friendly store. We had this same good experience on this visit and quickly purchased what we needed and was checked out quickly. Will definitely go back to this store.
I just left the store and got attitude for getting cash back. The cashier (Rene) loudly sighed “UGH” when I requested cash back and then he told me he was on someone else’s drawer (which is not my fault, but theirs) and said this would cause his drawer to be short. I, being non confrontational, said that it was okay if I needed to wait for someone to help him. He ignored me and yelled all the way to customer service and ignored the fact I was even standing there. The guy at customer service told him it was fine and just put a not in the drawer to which he grunted at and he put the money on the counter and didn’t speak to me. I walked away without saying a word to him and without him saying anything to me. I literally did nothing wrong and got attitude for requesting cash back as if I was taking it straight from his pockets.
We are never greeted when we walk into this Academy. We only come here a couple times a year to shop for a couple items for ourselves and maybe a trip or 2 with a family member. If they would greet and/or OFFER service, we would want to shop here more. The only thing I like is that the store is mostly clean.Edit:After 2 years of making necessary trips begrudgingly,I am pleased to say they have improved their customer service. We are greeteed by cashiers, employees helping others, and other employees on the floor. I finally get the help I need and want! Thank you! We will now be coming here more often for noon-essential spring equipment and clothing.
My husband and I went to look for clothes. After awhile a really nice lady came and asked us if there was something she could help us with. I quickly said yes maam. She was very helpful and patient. She had a pleasant attitude and body language. She even stayed close by as I tried on the items and did come back to check on us. I dont remember her name.We will go back!!The girl at the register was very nice as well. She also quickly got another worker to take care of the customer behind me because we decided to ask about their credit card application and right away she helped us with that.
I came to get a kickstand and air pump for bicycles. They have a huge selection of products for all kinds of sports and activities including hunting and water activities. They sell apparel and shoes of all kinds. They have great deals in the clearance sections. Prices are really good.
By far the WORST Academy shop I have ever visited. The manager was nice, the workers - complacent and overly aggressive in possibly what seemed like they were following me around the store. What a shame, Academy is my favorite place to shop back home in Kansas City and in such a nice area of DFW they made the experience so unpleasant I will never return here. They also seemed like they were all Black and Racist toward only White shoppers. HUGE failure of the brand and the experience, keep moving folks, they aren’t worth your business.
Everyone had a mask, but they did not have their nose or mouth covered, which defeats the point. The employees were trying to keep things in order and they all had their masks on correctly, which I very much respected. Although all the customers were not 6 feet apart, and they were being somewhat obnoxious.
Great store, not so good location. Academy is great for online closeout shopping. I do as much business through the website as I do in-store, mainly fishing tackle & apparel, but they have everything else too. Only drawback is they will break up shipments, at no additional ship cost to you, to fill your order. Order 6 items and it may come from 3 directions, but I really dont mind.
This location is always clean and has friendly employees. Only problem vs other Academy stores is to much team sports junk. They need to carry more selection of their hunting, fishing and camping gear. And in the home section less of the outdoor furniture and more outdoor cooking items would be wonderful.
They were open when nobody else was. Truly grateful for the employees who were there despite the terrible conditions...we were able to get some much needed supplies during our power and water outages that we were unable to get anywhere else. Thankyou for being open and know you helped a lot of people! 🙏🏻
Products are marked with a price on the shelf and double when they get scanned in at register. Plus everything at this store cost more than it’s competitors. It is just sad. I simply refused to buy from a terrible customer service provider. Even upon showing them the whole section of adidas socks marked at $9 and change (but ring up over $18) they didn’t care. I will be stealing my next pack of socks from here for sure.
It may be a great business decision to not restock during a time of crises, force frequent customers to buy your hard to move inventory! This is the bike buying season and to have no bikes available should be a crime! Then, the customer service Rep says, we get trucks every week! Slick move, but the store has been closed for two weeks!Had to go to Bicycle Inc. and paid a little more for a better quality bikes...Come on guys! RESTOCK, it looks like a rummage sale in your store
The store is well stocked, has good selection, organized, clean. The staff are helpful and pretty wellversed in their products. Like any big box store there are too many of unpopular selections and never quite enough of the most popular in the right size, but that is true everywhere now. I have personally shopped menswear, shoes, team sports, guns, patio, and fishing departments and found them all top notch. I will drive past 10 Dicks to get to Academy, but I do wish they had more DFW locations.
I ordered curbside pickup. I called the number on the sign they said my order would be right out, one car came, two cars came, both cars got their items and left. I waited outside about 20 minutes still no patio umbrella. I went in side showed my ID the girl at the counter said it would be right out I could go wait in my car. I waited, and I waited and I waited still no patio umbrella. I went back inside and asked what the holdup was She said she check on it for me. In the meantime I went to use the bathroom by the time I came back to the front of the store my patio umbrella was in a basket at customer service.
Love academy, this one in particular has a stocking issue, product in the wrong spots, price tags are a disaster in the shoe department. Id love it more if it was more privy to people walking in, new to the lifestyle and being able to make a decisive purchase. All the staff seems to be up front so you may have to go looking for someone if you need help.
Wont try to buy clothes here anymore. I went in to do Christmas shopping and the pants I took off of the shelf were mismarked and they wont honor the price they had marked. Supervisor was rude and lied to us. Horrible customer service. Ill buy clothes else where from now on.
Had to wait in line to ask about an item that was missing from the shelf while 5 other employees avoided eye contact but stood around. Waited 20 minutes to find out the only person that can apparently work that section of the store was on lunch. Despite them having multiple quantities of the item I wanted, someone finally brought up an open box item wrapped in packing tape. He acknowledged that they had more, but still, he only brought this one out of the back room. I commended them all on their super customer service and went home to wait for Amazon to deliver a similar product for $5 more. Five dollars is well worth saving a trip and half an hour standing around.
I went to buy a 49.99 turkey fryer with $10 off in store savings today. When I got to the register and it rang up as 49.99 and I was told that i I have grabbed the wrong box. 15 minutes later I walked back over to the display to see what other boxes available for $39 deal and there was no other box available. While researching I realized the displace on for 39 .99 actually showed the correct information showing the exact turkey fryer on sale for 39. 99. I ended up having to walk back over to customer service to tell them that they have display price was correct. After a 30-minute ordeal standing in line I was able to walk out with my turkey fryer for 39. 99. I make mistakes all the time and I owe up to them but Academy needs to work on that. They need to make sure if a signs are correct next to the correct product. I will be returning back to Academy in the future but but their customer service needs to work on their people soft skills.
Went in and had about $1,700 worth of assorted ammo in my cart for an up coming hunting trip. I asked the guy at the counter a simple question about some ammo on the shelf and he smarted off about the amount of ammo I had so I just said ok and left my cart there by the counter and went to Cabelas on 35 and bought the ammo and another shotgun. Thanks Academy .
Im going to Amazon... I spent 30 minutes at the NRH location picking out baseball bats and helmets for my two young kiddos only to find out that their system was down and they couldnt take credit cards. They had one register and 8 people standing in-line before someone came and asked whos paying with cash? Why couldnt you put an announcement over the intercom before all of us got in the checkout line, it would have been less frustrating and I would have been a little more understanding. One plus is that I now know what sizes my kids need so Ill order them on Amazon and get them tomorrow...
Terrible customer service, bought my son a bike. They didnt even offer to take it up front. I had to navigate the store with it. Assembly of bike poor. Did not shift correctly and handlebars lose. Good thing I know how to work on it. What about the customers who dont. Wont be going back.
No one around to help me in the shoe department. I walked around and found 2 employees, asked for help and one said there should someone there, and the other said she would call someone, but no one ever showed up. Wasted my lunch hour!!I walked out and saw 2 different employees by the front door playing on a electric wheelchair. Poor service on the busiest time of year!!!
Great prices! When we went to check out the cashier needed to start over on our transaction and the Manager tonight was extremely rude. She shouldnt be a manager if she doesnt have good customer service and couldnt talk to the us nicely. We shop at this location alot and have never had a rude experience from any of the employees there.
Good, purchase went well as well young man named Ricardo was very helpful and went above & beyond to ensure my purchase was a positive one. Definitely pleased with customer service, dont remember the young ladys name who finished out my purchase but was very pleased with both of them.
Cool place. I am not a sports person at all so never come here... Me and my girlfriend came here to get a tent and a few chairs for Dallas Pride 2018. Its like they were prepared. So many tents and chairs had already been purchased and so many on sale. The fold up chairs were just five bucks on sale! Even found a cool portable speaker that was bluetooth compatible and some comfy Nike slides to use as house shoes. Much more comfortable than thong sandals. It was a lot cooler than I expected.
Excellent selection of goods for most outdoor and indoor activities. Superb selection of shoes including the larger sizes normally found at big and tall stores. Two pairs of Nike shoes purchased for a single Benjamin. Plenty of clearance found this trip as preparation for the next school year wear is in infantile state.
This place has so many selections I went for a dart board and tried to get some cash back paying for the dart board was quick but I had to wait like 10 minutes to get some cash and I felt that was a bit inconvenient but other than that its a great place for gifts, etc
Need to get some shoes for my wife. We were helping my brother move. Temperature dropped, my wife was wearing sandals. I was in a hurry. Ask an associate where the womens shoes were. To my surprise he walked to the area. He then proceeded to help. I was not expecting that. He not only help me find a great pair of shoes, he helped me find socks too. I definitely recommend this location to anyone and everyone.
We left this store because lets be honest, if a person has to hunt for the shoe they want because everything on the shelf is disorganized, not stocked and boxes are stacked so high they could reach the ceiling, then youre working way too hard to find a single pair of shoes and need to go somewhere else. The Academy on Tarrant Parkway in Fort Worth had exactly what we needed, was easy to find the style and size we wanted on the shelves, and we were in/out in a 20 minutes with a nice new pair of Nikes.
Manager was rude found a ammo can for 45 ullets holds 700 for 6.99. I thought what a great deal. I didnt see another one around so being honest I went to customer service and asked how much it was. It was 28.99 so I told the manager it said 6.99 he told me well there is nothing I can do about it and said I will find you the one for 6.99 it was a half of a 50 cal ammo can. I said no thank you and left
Was trying to see if they had any of the new Glock 43x in stock over the phone. The employee from the firearms department made me feel unwanted like I was causing him trouble. He then returned and said they did have some of the regular Glock 43s which isnt what I was looking for. I asked again if he knew if they had any Glock 43x in stock and he only responded with I Dont Know and set there quietly. This was a huge let down from my favorite outdoor store. I guess ill be taking my business elsewhere.
There so diffrent types of merchandise variety of things best ever improvements more shown on these merchadise percent cost off the prices really makes well more changes . Need more improvements to changes something new ! So that way more people buying like for example discounts anything so that way academy will gets good stock market will go up !
I’ve never had any bad experiences at this store, until Yesterday! I was approached by an employee on the sports section who made a very unprofessional and rude comment! I was with my two children and he dared to tell me that I was not doing a good job raising my oldest after he touched an exercise ball! He just shouted that out of the blue! I was very upset at his behavior!!!
Hunting, Fishing, and Camping supplies are great. Staff in those areas are great! This place gets 2 stars though because almost every single visit there is just one register(Customer Service register)open up front. It never fails that there are 3-5 customers in line, half of whom are returning items, and half who just have a few items to purchase. Whats frustrating is that every time there are also 2-3 store staffers standing behind person working the customer service register just staring at the customers waiting in line. Open another stinking register at some point. Check out takes forever and it is the only reason I visit this Academy location as infrequently as I do. Ive almost left merch and walked out.
It is convenient Sporting Goods here in Texas. They never change up what they carry. Seems old and stagnant for selection. Their BLK. Friday As hasnt changed in over 10 years. Their Service is at a Walmart Grade now too.I guess this is why Walmart and Dicks are still around with the same business.
I needed assistance in the shoe department and after no luck in finding an employee nearby I went to the front and asked the guy cleaning the store for help. He had to go ask the only employee working customer service to call for help over the intercom. Nobody ever showed up in the shoe dept. I eventually dragged a bench over to shoe department to reach the pair of shoes I wanted. The girl up front had a long line at the customer service and no other cash registers were open. Finally found a manager on my way out and explained that there were other customers in shoe dept who needed help and all she said was oh ok Im sorry.
Walk in and share with the door greeter what I’m looking for. He honestly says “he doesn’t know” which I can appreciate BUT doesn’t offer to help. Just stands there like a light pole but not as bright. After 15 minutes of walking through the store not one person offered to help. Yup, I should’ve shopped on Amazon because this Academy Sports Outdoors was a huge waste of my time.
We came in to look for a jacket and ammo. I got the ammo easily but we didnt find a jacket for my wife with the small selection they had. We looked around and didnt find anyone to ask if they had more so we went to check out and that is where all of the associates were and most of them were talking about their personal lives. As I went to check out, all our cashier said was enter your zip code after she rang up the ammo. And after that, she looked at another group of associates and kept talking about something else.Customer service is non existent and Ill drive to another store from now on if I need anything from Academy.
So we went to get new pieces for my husband riffle because he’s going next week to hunt. And this Hispanic guy was changing the stuff for my husband riffle and I think he was the manager anyway he told us that he change everything and it was ready we ask him if he was sure and he told us yes I being doing this for a long time I know how to do it. Two days later we went to a alpine shooting range and we find out that he never fixed correctly we have to pay for those guys to fixed for us

2022-04-16Bought a hammock online they had it ready did a great job great price. And when I get there I usually like to look at a little bit of everything cuz I love the store. I love buying guns sometimes they have really great prices on guns and they also have awesome sporting section. Ive never been disappointed at Academy and there shall staff is very helpful.

2022-04-03Found what we needed, but selection was a little limited. Probably better to shop then online once youve had a chance to see whats in the physical store. Got equipment for our little league baseball player. A bit pricey, but no more than most sporting goods stores. I would recommend Academy for specific sports items that are hard to find elsewhere.

2020-10-06Horrible buy online, in-store pickup experience. I arrived at the store, and attempted curbside pickup, but no one would respond. Thankfully I was able to find a mask in my vehicle and entered the store to pickup my two orders. I clearly told the employee at the counter I was there to pickup “two orders”. He only handed one large bag with four items. I questioned him if this was both orders which then prompted him to find the second order. After arriving home and unloading the items, we noticed the 12-pack box of baseballs was heavily damaged and taped with large amounts of clear packaging tape. After opening the box we discovered three of the twelve baseballs were missing, ~$10. I have attempted over multiple days to contact the store for a partial refund. They never answer the phone or the manager Jeff is busy. Having difficulty reaching the store for resolution, I then contacted Academy customer service who was unable to assist with a refund. Academy customer service attempted to reach the store manager on my behalf but they too were unsuccessful in their attempts and sympathized with my frustration. From start to finish I’ve been unsatisfied with my order experience and will not be ordering again.

2021-02-14Store was busy but there were plenty of registers open and we were checked out quickly. They have great sales going on right now and all sale merchandise is clearly marked and towards the front in a separate section. No digging or having to hunt for clearance. Purchased my grandson his first tricycle for Valentines day!
