I too have been a soldier at Ft. Sam and guess what, I can donate EVERYDAY from 0430 to 1000. Barring any emergencies or training that requires them to.close, which is very standard for medical facilities. Staff was super courteous.

I have been a soldier at Sam Houston for three years plus now and whenever I wanted to donate platelets I would always have to drive to Lackland to do it. Recently I was told that I could do it at Akeroyd which made me excited because that would save me 25 plus minutes of driving. I head in today and find out they only do it Monday through Wednesday. Now some people would say that I should have just set in something for those days and not be so picky or low in my review. But here are reasons, one my schedule like many in the military is all over the place and not very conducive to only have a three day block window to try and fit something in. And second as a military facility on a medical base there is absolutely no reason that availability for any type of donation whether or plasma or platelets shouldn’t be available every single day, especially when I have emails always saying they are in desperate need of blood products. Furthermore I know this place on a personal level as I trained there briefly and have donated here before for blood and I KNOW for a fact that they have personnel there from 0430 to pretty much almost 1200 open 5 days a week except for holidays, and are hardly busy unless they are doing blood drives so there should be absolutely no reason you can’t do platelets every day. Otherwise in my mind it serves next to no purpose.
