It can be good to very good depending on the time you go and eat. The primary dishes are Mexican food. They offer other items such as hamburgers, chicken sandwichs and nuggets. The priced are fair for the portion you receive on daily specials. Other prices are are a bit higher than other similar places. A big negative for me is that sodas are by the can instead of fountain drink. They do have refills on unsweet/sweet tea. The service was slow but the server was very responsive to any needs at the table. They offer a breakfast buffet on Sat and Sun only at this time. The price was $11.99 without drink.
We decided to try this place for the first time being that Google showed really excellent reviews. I was impressed to see the food get to our table, not even 5 minutes after ordering. My menudo had two jarred and rubbery meat like gumps floating inside the plate. I fished them out and asked the waitress what that was, she said she had never seen anything like it in any menudo and she asked me if I wanted something else. She came back with the menudo and was told that the rubbery thing was part of the menudo. In my 30 years of eating menudo, I have never seen anything like it. It looked like a shriveled up, deflated rat. I was charged for the menudo anyway...never coming here again and am definitely notifying the health department.
Very tasty. This place is popular among the locals. There is a buffet for $10.99. O had the Mexican plate special for $5.99!! One chalupa, one beef taco and one cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Their sweet tea is so delicious, too! My first time here, and I will return. My friend had the fish ( didnt get a pic) and it was well served!
First time trying this spot, based on a friends recommendation. Everything seems to be a few bucks more than most other restaurants, $1.99 for a can of soda seems a bit excessive. I ordered their New Mexico Plate and it was amazing, Carne Guisada was super tender and flavorful. The Enchiladas were rolled pretty thin, but very good, rounding of the plate were the rice/beans that are on par with any good TexMex restaurant. Their corn and flour tortillas are both handmade. All that being said, I saw no less than 5 signs around the restaurant saying that ANY substitutions would accrue an extra charge, extras will be charged accordingly, and ordering breakfast after 11 AM... You guessed it, extra charge. It was good, but definitely seems like theyll nickel and dime you if youre not careful.
Great food for great prices. Come on the day of your favorite daily special. Excellent service. The waiters are very attentive. You hardly have to wait for a refill. The lemonade and sweet tea are great. I recommend them. The worst thing is finding parking during peak hours, but thats just how popular it is.
Great atmosphere and, even better prices. Went during peak breakfast hours so,wait was a little long but well with it. I had the Chilaquiles and beans and my wife had the Bacon and egg plate. The food was very well cooked and served. The salsa was very delicious! Will definitely go back for lunch.
I have come to this restaurant in the past and have received good service. But the last two times I have gone, the service has been the WORSE service I have ever had. I will never step foot in this restaurant again and will do my best to steer others away from ever going there. On both visits, I have sat down and it took 10 to 15 minutes before anyone came to give us a menu or take are drink order. Both occasions, I watched several people that sat down after me recieve their menu and their drinks before anyone came. Your staff were more interested on talking to each other and on their cell phones than attending to customers. The last occasion I went was even amplified. The person I ate with got their meal finished it 15 minutes before my meal came out. When I asked to see a manager, I was told there was none available. I was not looking for a discount. I was looking to give the management a heads up. I will advise everyone I know never to go to your establishment.
Ok. Where do I start. We waited about 10 minutes before the Waitress came with menus. We ordered 2 tacos of barbacoa and 2 menudos, you figured oh its Saturday that should be fast since its what most people order on weekend. Well we waited, and waited and waited for about 30 minutes and than the waitress come up to us and said, do u want your tacos because the menudo is going to take a while. First and last time we will be there. Bad super bad experience.
This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and my family and I loved the breakfast. The “Huevos Rancheros plate” was delicious. The food was hot, and the Mexican salsa too. The tortillas de harina were delicious!! Great coffee and great prices! Definitely going back! Highly recommend!
I ordered breakfast here during this blackout/freezing weather that we’re currently going through and omg the food was amazing. I asked for the simplest order: eggs, beans, potatoes, tortillas, sausage and it was delicious! The eggs could use more salt but it’s perfect like that bc some people don’t like salt.10/10 recommend
OMGOSH!!! Never Knew that this place was even here its literally right across frombthe loves Truck stop on the same side of the highway as the luvs truckstop. This place has homemade Mexican food so if you like to get exquisite home cooked Mexican food then this is the place to go they have some food that is already made and ready in the hot table, or you can order their specials each day they have different specials, also they have a divine breakfast in the morning that a lot of people go And munch out. The workers are so sweet and so respected and a really truly care about if your food was made perfect. Have you have a chance to go and eat this place I strongly recommend checking it out I do not think you will be regretting it afterwards.
I like having brunch at Anitas. Sometimes I order breakfast and other times I order lunch. Two of my favorite dishes are the cheese enchiladas and some fabulous fajita tacos with avocado made Reynosa style...I forgot the name of the platter. They sometimes forget you are there because it is so busy...I happen to like at least 1 refill of my drink so that is the only reason I took away a star.
I had a friend visiting from out of town and when we found this gem. My go-to at Anitas is the barbacoa and menudo. Ive dined inside and ordered to go as well and have always had a good experience. Theyre great people as well, always have treated me great when Ive stopped by.
Ate breakfast here. I was not disappointed. Although the meal did take a few minutes longer than some other places it was well worth the wait. A homemade breakfast quality is missing now days. Staff is friendly and ready to serve as always. A definite breakfast stop u will not be disappointed. Although they do serve lunch I am usually not in the area during this time frame.
I am always on the look out for a decent restaurant. I would always pass by Anitas but never stopped. I decided to stop and finally give them a try. The restaurant was clean, the wait staff was friendly and the food was excellent. One key point of Anitas are the flour tortillas. Nothing is more disappointing than receiving your order and it looks delicious but then they put on the table a container of store bought tortillas. That just ruins the meal. At Anitas you know the tortillas are fresh because you have a clear view of them being hand made. The location is a little out of the way but the food makes it worth the drive. For sure one of the best Mexican food restaurant I have eaten at. I highly recommend it.
Excellent food topped off by the homemade tortillas. I toyed with the idea of putting 4 stars because at times, service from the wait staff can take too long during the meal (ex. Refills.) But overall, Ive received good service on the majority of my visits here. Highly recommend.
Its a very comfortable place where you can enjoy good quality Mexican food. The waitresses there are friendly and will strike up a conversation to make you feel welcome. Understandably parking is the only issue normally around lunch time but other than that its worth it.
Love this place! Service was good and food was amazing! I had the Mach Ole with Carne Asada, which Im assuming is one of their specialties, and I loved it!! Also had a homemade Concha and some of their sweet tea, both were amazing. Not sure what they did, but their sweet tea tastes different than what Ive had before. Will definitely go back when Im in the area again.
Well this was a nice little jewel I just happened to drive by, this was in all a good experience over all food was good and the tortillas where on point along with the tostadas and gordita with beens and fresh Mexican cheese, I could swear they had mom back there in the kitchen. This is definitely in my top 2 fave mexican buffets. The only thing that might throw a few of you off is the smaller than usual selection of food for a buffet, but in my opinion I rather have a small selection of good food than a large selection of mediocre food. So if you are in the mood for some home cooking and a very casual atmosphere then this is the place to go .
Having just moved to the Rio Grande Valley, I was excited to experience some of the food offerings here. I have been disappointed with the suggestions presented by others until trying Anitas cafe. While most of the dishes are standard fare, all the ingredients tasted fresh and were prepared meticulously. The atmosphere is very the family friendly and you can tell that the proprietors take great pride in their establishment by the service they provide. This is not a large fancy restaurant, however it has the quaint and cozy feel that many look for when finding new favorite places
Ordered barbacoa tacos because I’ve had them several times and alway loved them. This time they served very little meat plus it was so greasy with a lot of fat and skin in it, bearly any meat, I returned them and got the same thing again. My table also ordered a potato and egg taco and was served an egg taco with 3 pieces of potato, returned the taco and got a taco back full of potato and bearly any egg like they were making fun for complaining. Will not be coming back.
Very upset, ordered menudo picked up just to get home and left the bag and the menudo was so hot it burned through the container and bag. It landed on my leg and abdomen and my van and most of my sidewalk, not to mention the clothes I was wearing and shoes. Called back upset they just said they replace it. I was hoping maybe a manager or someone would acknowledge the incident but no. The worker mentioned to me that it was so hot because it just came out and they knew. Im not one to chastise an employee so I got my replacements and left. Poor service for an burnt customer.
The food is really good here. Ill say maybe slightly, if not straight up better than the average Mexican food around here. But it seems like their thing is carne guisada. The tortillas are made there fresh. If any fresher, it would be made at your tableside. The staff are friendly and work at reasonable speed to get in and out for your lunch break. Just carpool there cause the parking is somewhat of a challenge if you dont beat the rush.
This is a Mexican cafe. We visited the restaurant for their breakfast buffet. They offered eggs with bacon, potatoes, menudo, barbacoa, pancakes, French toast, oatmeal and much more. Food was delicious! Service was excellent. Great place for that family that has picky eaters!
They serve some great Mexican food but if service is something you take into consideration then this isnt the right place for you. Their service is horrible not only are the ladies rude but they hardly come and check up on you to see if you require anything. Due to service I dont recommend this place.
Its a very good place to eat at I absolutely love 💘 this place SPECIALLY with my cousin Flor working there and my niece Keren who is one of a very good group of waitresses working there... And the owners are just so nice with exalent service... I totally recommend Anitas Cafe
One of those hidden gems in the Valley. Is sort of hidden, but once you find it, you want to come back. Food is great. Service and ambiance is normal and good, nothing out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, I have never had any issue with their wait staff. The food is the best Mexican food in the Edinburg area. Well prepared. On time. Y bien delicioso. Lunch time is always packed so be ready to come early or eat with a large Lunch crowd.
GREAT food and GREAT service! Whether it is pancakes, Caldo, or a grilled Chicken plate that I order, I always enjoy my meal. Btw, the homemade corn and flour tortillas are simply delicious and comforting to the soul! Coffee? Yes, please. Tea? Half sweet / Half unsweet. BEST TEA in town. ¡De Veras!

Everything has been delicious, including the menudo served on weekends. Its a big place, family friendly with good, quick and courteous service. Love it.

2022-04-16Everything was good except when I ordered bean and bacon taco I hardly got any beans. The cheapest thing you can make is beans and their stingy with their products I spend 2:50 for this taco😐

2022-01-25Carne guisada plate with the flour tortillas or they’re chicken enchiladas, yum what I don’t like is that I ordered a soup to go and with my plate to go and the lady in the front said you have to buy the large soup for to go orders so I didn’t think that was fair since the menu gives option for a smaller portion

2021-07-25The food here was okay the huevos rancheros did have a good taste and the staff was very friendly. The huevos rancheros for $5.99 you get 2 eggs, bacon and refried beans ( the hash browns was extra). The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium, the salsa for the eggs was good, the refried beans were just okay, the bacon was not crispy but it was tasty, the hash browns were lacking salt but that was easily fixed. The tortillas both corn and flour tortillas were okay. The staff was friendly and attentive.Overall a good place for a breakfast, the place looks nice inside with all the chicken decorations, i would have liked for the hash browns/diced potatoes to be included in the huevos rancheros dish but the place is still good at a decent price.

2022-05-20I ordered food for pick up due to me having covid this was the closest restaurant to my home. I called them when I was outside to ask if they could bring it to my car. I was told this wasn’t a service they provide and I explained my situation in which I can hear the staff in the background all saying they’re not going to come outside. I asked to speak to the manager which then proceeded to tell me they weren’t going to expose themselves bc they had to work. So I told her I could get off and I was giving a warning and they told me not to do that… so they just wanted me to leave.. they finally agreed to bring it out to my car. They took forever I had to call them back to remind them I was outside they were extremely bothered that they had to deal with me. I will never give another penny to this restaurant. They made me feel worst than I was already feeling. Terrible way to handle the situation.

2022-05-07We had breakfast. Pancake was hot and tender. Huevos ranchero salsa was great. Hash brown potatoes were cooked perfect. Flour tortillas are in house made. Bacon needed to be a little more crispy and refried beans tasted like canned beans. Server was great, she was fast and friendly. We will return.
