I can’t even put into writing how unbelievably disgusting the behavior of one of their employees was. My son has autism and is unable to wear a mask. In less than 30 secs of walking in we were accosted by a beyond rude employee who yelled at us to put a mask on. Before I could even attempt to explain the situation she started screaming for the manager and making a scene. Needless to say my son and I walked out and will never return. If you like places where rude employees discriminate against children with special needs then this is the place for you. Disgusting.
Only comic book store Ive been to really and it wows me Everytime I walk in here. Filled to the brim with ALL sorts of stuff, come here if youre a comic book fan, looking for gifts, or just straight up curious about picking up a new indie comic to spend your time with. The staff are great and helpful as well!
There is a huge selection of action figures, comics, shirts, mugs, pins, small mystery boxes, and many other items. I found a cool BB-8 mug here and bought it. The staff was friendly and the store was easy to navigate. Also, my girlfriend was able to take her dog in, but we did not stay too long. You can easy waste an hour or more here just checking the store out.
Love this shop. My husband is the comic book aficionado, but i really love going to this shop and browsing all the interesting merch they have. The models, pins, posters, t-shirts and stuff are all fantastic. The staff is friendly and they allow you to explore without standing over you. When you visit, make sure to use the restroom and check out the hand drawn cartoons on the walls. Fun!
I went to Austin books and comics today and I found literally everything I needed and the staff was very helpful and there were at least 500,000 back issues on site and there was a lot of graphic novels and a all ages section and an LGBTQ plus section if you are in the area I recommend checking this place out
Knowledgeable staff, and a great selection of current runs, back issues, indie prints, trade paperbacks, and even some manga. Theyre also willing to order in a specific boom or issue if possible, and offer 25¢ backed sleeves at the counter. The layout of the store is great as well! They have shelves sorted alphabetically, by genre, by publisher, by press type, etc. They also have a curated selection of comics that are entry points to certain stories and characters, for when you want to jump into something new. They also sometimes have events, signings, and even some early access and exclusive variants! If you like comics and live in Austin, this place is a must-visit. I put it up there with Midtown Comics in Times Square
Its been a really long time since I stopped in, so I didnt know when the store square footage got expanded. Its a lot bigger than before not as dark inside. Selection is pretty impressive, a bit confusing at first. Staff is super cool and will help you find that one thing youre on the hunt for and even offer to order items if listed in their database thingamajig. Its a little warm in the back, but whatever no biggie if you live in Texas youre gonna sweat randomly. Parking is kinda tricky but there is parking on the side of the building, so no excuses to not stop in.
I had them make a pull list for me 3 months ago ( war of the bounty hunters ) and been getting them shipped out each month. Now I missed back issues from the tie ins but they kept the main title...makes no sense. Now I have to find the tie in on ebay. They said we only hold for a month...however they had the one title being held for me still. It would have made the issue better if the girl I spoke to on the phone offered to look for the back issues I was missing or something along those lines.
So this place we must have driven by 100 times before stopping in, thinking ohh its just a comic shop. Boy were we wrong. This place is amazing!! The amount of inventory and selection is incredible! The space is extremely deceiving from the outside but its like the TARDIS. This small storefront but walking in, its huge!! I cant really go into the vast inventory, but if youre looking for it, they probably have it. Books, manga, comics, figures, collections, art, trinkets, new release, vintage, it goes on and on. We didnt interact with the staff aside from a friendly hello and checkout. But those interactions were very friendly and pleasant. We will definitely be making this place our go to for all things comic related.
ABC is **easily** the best store for comics and graphic novels in South Texas, and certainly in the top ten in the country. With an extensive collection of new and back issue comics, thousands of graphic novels and trade paperbacks, as well as toys, t-shirts, and collectibles, it can be a bit overwhelming.Thankfully, there is always a staff of friendly and knowledgeable people there to help you find what youre looking for, or series you havent found yet. While youre there, stop by Guzu Gallery next door. GG is the ABC store focused on vinyl figures and blind boxes. They also host a gallery of artists pieces in shows set around a theme such as Halloween, kaiju and monsters like Godzilla, etc.And around the corner in the same center is Outlaw Games, which is their store full of games - tabletop, role-playing, collectible card games, and more! They also have a ton of vintage toys like original Star Wars, Transformers, and GI Joe.Visit them all! Support wonderful local businesses!EDIT: STILL AWESOME. Today happens to be Free Comic Book Day, and they took over the space which used to be their Sidekick Store for people to pick out their free issues.
I am an international buyer from Canada. From the moment I called to ask about a book the service was always friendly and polite. The manager promptly emailed and called me back several times to provide me the details I wanted about a specific book. Ty, who was one of the managers that helped me, was a pleasure to deal with. I had a smooth transaction with him and will definitely be a returning customer.
This store has everything comics and graphic novels. Indies, kids, mainstream, posters, you name it. They even have figures in the back, mostly comics and star wars stuff. They do not have anime figures, but thats balanced with an anime store being right next to it. All in all, great experience.
My biggest issue with this store that they will not negotiate pricing on high end books, even when wen looking at 10+ books at $50+ Their firm stance on pricing has left me only buying from them once every 2 years or so. I am a local but tend to do my key issue shopping in Dallas and Houston due to friendlier service and negotiatable prices.Other than that the staff is generally friendly and the selection is amazing. Ive been fortunate enough to have been in many comic shops across the country and Ive found that few shops can match the size of this store. If it wasnt for my one major issue I would be ranking them 4-5 stars but its bothered me for years being the only store Ive been to with out flexible pricing. But they have been in business since the 70s so maybe that works for them so they must be doing something right!
Trevor invited my son and I to stop by and check out the store. We finally got around to going and instead of my son buying comics, I spent almost $100 on a collection that caught my eye. Im happy with my purchase and Trevor was great! Well definitely be going again..for my son 😉
This place is the best. The staff is always top notch, friendly and will bend over backwards to help you find what you are looking for. Huge in-store inventory. Plus they give veterans a 15% discount, which is much appreciated. They also have a huge warehouse full of back issues, so if you cant find it in store, they likely have it in somewhere. If you buy from here you wont be disappointed.
This shop has everything. Easily the best comic shop in Austin. All the big new titles every week, limit one on the hottest books so everybody has a chance to get one, which is a great policy. Insane collection of back issues and statues. More statues in one place than Ive ever seen. The only thing this place is missing is a decent air conditioner.
One of the best comic shops Ive been to. The staff is very friendly and helpful they have a great variety of products. What I like the most about this is their selection of art books. A lot of comic book shops Ive been to dont usually carry many art books from industry artists, but this place has a big selection.
I always love coming here to see the latest issues of my favorite mangas and comics. They have some helpful fun staff willing to help you find anything you need and want without hesitation. Ive been to this store and its partnered stores around it and it was always amazing, not just the products but the environment too. Theyre always willing to help even if they dont have what youre looking for, theyll try to help you get it and get it shipped there for you. Very clean and organized as well. Its always easy for me to find the books or series Im following because its all in alphabetical order and its all sectioned off into genres and styles which makes everything so much easier to find. I love this place!
Its a cool place. It was larger than I expected. Lot of new comics and a lot of old comics. There were also figurines and promo items as well. I picked up a new Junji Ito release here. I could have bought it online, but having it in hand and being able to do a little quality assurance is worth a couple of dollars.
What a wonderful place. Just a wonderland of comics and graphics novels and artsy things. Theres something for everyone - heroes, villains, black and whites, indie stuff, posters, books... this is a great spot all around. The staff is kind and helpful and not at all pushy. I got a cool book called Algeria is Beautiful Like America. Almost cried halfway through. Thanks a ton for being a part of the community!!
Cute place. Very big for a comic book store also very Clean. The people working there are very nice with kids. They seem to welcome new and less experienced readers. Great kids section with lots to Choose from. The parking is a little awkward but that is not their fault. We go about once every 2 months. Also great selection of toys and games.
Used to live in Houston and loved my local comic book shop so much that I kept a pull list with them even when I moved to College Station. A couple months ago I moved to Austin and have already have such a great experience with ABC. Everyones so extremely nice and fun to be around and just all around excited about everything in the store! Look forward to every Wednesday with them 😊
The manager is a really nice dude and always has a lot of great recommendations. On top of that, the other people working there also are able to make a lot of suggestions too. They also have a comic pull system that’s one of the better ones I’ve seen a comic shop use.If you want to make a day of it, start here and check out their other businesses. You can easily lose yourself for 3-5 hours just looking g at everything.
They have a huge selection, helpful, knowledgeable staff, great for normals & noobs. Its almost overwhelming. Comics, trades, hard & soft covers, artist events, and figures galore. Dont even get me started on Free Comic Book Day, theyre my first stop. But I keep my pull list at a smaller, more intimate store (Rogues Gallery in RR) because it is easier to find new arrivals.
Excellent selection of graphic novels and comic books. I went in thinking I would find a quirky book about something interesting and artistic. I found an extremely moving graphic novel about miscarriage and the loss of a child. I am grateful that this subject matter is being promoted even in a store like this.
The people here are super cool and helpful. Their selection of books is great, and we found a couple of things that we were not expecting to pick up (although ouch that is par for the course at shops like this 😉).As you explore youll find that it just never stops, and is much larger than it appears to be at first glance. The first thing that drew me in was their Manga selection, and even though its smaller than the others, I liked the quality of the material there. They also have a great assortment of statues and figurines toward the back of the store that I could spend hours looking at. Overall, 10/10 would buy from again.
My favorite comic store in town! All of the employees are always super friendly and knowledgeable about pretty much any comic genre. I personally prefer horror comics and have had many great conversations with a couple of clerks who also made really awesome suggestions. Even if they dont have what you are looking for, they are always quick to offer ordering it for you. ABC has a great staff with great customer service skills.
They have a variety of toys, collectables, games, and comics (new and old). They have most of the recent comics towards the front, but in the back they have a huge room with drawers perfectly stacked in fours filled with alphabetically sorted comics that contain some of the most iconic and memorable comics of each character from Marvel, DC and beyond. While some of the more recent things are pretty pricey, the things worth getting are great and reasonable prices. Honestly, if I lived nearer I would be more broke than I am now.
Awesome selection and service (from the fellow with the mustache, the girl with all the pins, not so much). This place is magical, it connects the stories you grew up with or growing up with with props , action figures, and cool things to decorate your place with.Nerd out with pride here people. And try all the other cool neighbors, except the Kava place.
This shop is always friendly, acomadating and has a great knowledgable staff. A great place to get your comic book fix or a gift for a friend or family member. It is well organized and easy to navigate through, even though, it may seem daunting with so many comic books and the like. Its a great gem of a store with a staff that gives wonderful well thought out suggestions, all depending on your taste and open mindedness to new suggestions. I would highly recommend this comic book shop and its staff as a place to visit here in Austin.
Do you want to be overwhelmed by the, ahem, sheer volume(s) of comics they have? Do you want to be surrounded by stories from DC, Marvel, Boom, Image and every other comic producer? What about friendly and knowledgeable staff? Do want to be happy and shop at the best comic store in Austin? Yeah. You should probably go here if you like comics, want to get into comics, or just want to be a happy human! Cant recommend this place enough!!
Fantastic experience! Im new to the world of comics and people that work here were so helpful and informative. I asked so many questions and they were able to answer them and recommend items based on my very very broad questions and needs. I went in thinking I was going to be very overwhelmed by everything and by the time I left I felt the complete opposite, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of the basics plus some. Not only were they able to help me understand how the comics are ordered (numbered) but they were also able to recommend some really great titles and authors that I probably wouldnt have looked at otherwise. Thanks Ty and Pink Haired Chick! You definitely have a return customer!
Austin books and comics is always a pleasure to peruse. The employees are nice and helpful and know even the most obscure titles. Their recommendations are often excellent, which is helpful if youre looking to broaden your reading. Also, theyre the best stocked comic shop in Austin. They nearly always have what Im looking for. And all graphic novels and manga are 10% off MSRP.Highly recommend.
This is my favorite comic book store in Texas! If you want to give someone a look at a comic book store for the first time, taking them here really gives them a great wow factor. Its huge. Its super well stocked. You can tell everyone who works there is so passionate about what they do and this scene. Ive found two new series Ive fallen in love with going through the employee recommendations on the walls that I never would have found myself. It is a little overwhelming for those who are not used to comic book shopping, but I promise if youre new to comic book reading or want to buy someone a present, these guys will get you on the right track. They have books, figurines, and art everywhere. The shop is super clean, smells fine, is in a good location.Dont forget to check out a really great art display shop literally next door to it, and around the corner in the same place you park at is a great board game/card game shop that offers all kinds of new games to try out too.
You walk in and you think oh yeah small comic book store cool then you walk 10 feet more and BOOM! that place is HUGE and was wall to wall with comics! It was great. And it had exactly what i was looking for. I did end up spending about 50 bucks there trying to complete my collection and thanks to them i am one book away! Definitely will go back for new collection i start up. One of the best parts is its so close to a half price books, so after hunting in their tiny section and not finding what youre looking for you can just drive on over to this place.
Oh, how lucky we are here in Austin to have ABC Comics! Such an amazing place! The BEST comic selection in town hands down. They have a super friendly staff who really know their stuff. I go several times a week and have been known to go there more than once in a day, even. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out on a truly transcendent experience. They have great comics, books, action figures, and big name writers come there for signings. Uniquely “Austin” and an essential place to visit if you come here. Get Ty to tell you his Peter Dinklage story!
Really colorful fun place! Great variety for nerds of all walks of life. Super nice nonbinary worker helped show us a lot of lgbtq+ stuff. People really seem to enjoy being and working there. Itd be 5 stars but Ive only been once, so I want to be accurate. Really cool place!
Great comic selection. But like record stores some of the workers are socially inept. A couple of the employees are very nice. The lady who worked there looked at my 2 year old as if she was some strange foreign object and was cranky when I checked out. I asked for a bag since it was raining and was told they havent carried bags for 3 years(with a bitchy tone). I support local business but will go back to amazon for a while...
I went there looking for a specific compilation Origins Of Marvel Comics, and they actually had it at a great price! This place, the vast selections and friendly people NEVER disappoint! I cant wait to go back! ( If the staff at Austin Books is reading this- THANK YOU BOTH!!).
Its Austins version of Forbidden Planet and if I can spend less than an hour there and walk out without several titles and collectables in my hand then Ive exerted my reserves of willpower for the week. With LGBQT section and a beginners area, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and care that goes into the shop organization. My only beef would be the lack of popular artists in the Art of section. Jim & Jae Lee, Adams, Campbell, Charest, Capullo, Darrow...none of their books are on the self. Regardless its a magical place and I look forward to my next visit.
I love this place because they not only carry all of the comics and nerdy toys you want, but they also have a staff that comes from all walks of life and age groups. Theyre very friendly and helpful when you ask something. Go around back and check out the art gallery and other toy stores. Awesome!
!!!WARNING For people looking to sell their comic books here!!!I brought in a comic book worth from $2,500 - $15,000 just to see what type of offers they give.I was offered $50 for the comic, which I politely declined and thanked them for their time. That is my only warning about this place so that I can prevent anyone from getting jipped!Other than that, its an amazing store with the best selection in the area. 4 stars, because Im not the type of person to put 1 star for one bad experience. That only had to do with their purchasing of comics from consumers.
If you have an itch for some comics or are trying to find a specific one this is the place to go! There is stuff in there that you didnt know existed or needed. If somehow they dont have something you need you can order it and most likely the awesome staff there will get it for you! Just an overall great place to go and see all the cool stuff they have.Enjoy! Also: make sure to check out their other 2 stores in the same shopping center with even more treasures to get.
I have to say that this comic shop has to be on my top 3 favorite shops of all time. They had everything! And they were so nice! And helpful. They had a great assortment of toys and trades. Ive been to a bunch of cluttered junk stores with comicfalling everywhere. This was NOT one of those places. Very brig very clean. I love this place. Go there now!!!
We were visiting Austin to go to the capitol and figured we would check out a place on the way back to Dallas, we came here. Wow. thats all I can say, everyone except one guy behind the counter against the wall in front of the spensive comics was absolutely amazing. One person just came out of nowhere when we were ogling the Artist Editions and asked if we needed help and if we wanted to see any up close. She told us about the sidekick store which is also pretty cool where everything is super cheap, and mentioned she had seen some of them there. The entire complex is a geek heaven, but I must say there were enough people working, its staffed very well, the people were very nice even for a busy Saturday. The selection is beyond amazing, if you look real hard and shop smart you can find some great surprises, and out of print stuff at cover price. I scored a Marvel Masterworks thats out of print for cover minus 10%. they are large enough to carry all the expensive books that most shops simply cant afford to carry, artist editions, art books, pretty much every Omnibus available (ever). A really great store I would even consider the 2.5 hour drive just to go here again. Believe the good reviews on this place, it really is as good as everyone says.
Great comic book store. Large selection of graphic novels/comics and a pretty impressive collection of comic book related toys. Prices are very reasonable. They operate jointly with two other stores in the same strip mall, one that focuses on gaming and the other, art.
Granted, it is a pretty amazing store with a huge selection.Be sure to not go into the EMPLOYEES ONLY comic section along the front part of the wall to the left. Otherwise, theyll make you feel like a douche for going back there to look at the comics prices that are not-so-conveniently placed on the back of the issues. Yes, they have a small sign that says that its an employees only section, however, its not easily seen when its set away from the entrance and youre in awesome comics! mode. I wasnt going to request an employee come and tell me the price of each comic that I was interested in.Also, it seemed to me that their back issues were slightly over-priced.
The workers have always been helpful without being pretentious. A few weeks ago I asked about Wonder Woman stuff and the employee recommended a great run. Its also next door to a discount comic store. They perhaps did too good a job because I ended up getting a library card and get comics for free now haha.
Austin Books is really a fun place to shop. Their selection is immense with rows upon rows of both current and back issue comics. Its both a great time whether youre looking for just the latest or if you want to find that past issue youve been searching for. They have an amazing subscription service, but often it seems like thats not even necessary with how well-stocked their new issues are. If I had to give this place a knock, it would be for the sparse parking which sometimes makes a visit a little more tricky.
The ideal comic shop experience. A highly knowledgeable, well-trained approachable staff make navigating their enormous, well-stocked store a really great experience. Whether youre a comics fan with decades of comics-reading under your belt or just curious to see what the inside of a shop looks like - they can help. The store is extremely family friendly with stuff for the kids to peruse while youre looking for Walking Dead comics. And if you just want to try something because youve seen it in a movie, on TV, etc... (a) they have it, and (b) they can point you in the right direction. If youre a veteran comics reader, their back-issue selection is astounding and ever changing. And I havent even mentioned the back-issue store or their other two stores in the complex.
Austin Books & Comics is my favorite location to get my comics. I am not a weekly comics shopper, would be if the funds were available, but I love to keep in the loop and pick up a few from time to time. The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I love this place.
Basically if you dont look a certain way keep out this shop. Amazing selection of both comics and Mangas! Only problem I had was with the fat guy with the beird. I used to shop here all the times when I first lived in Austin and felt as if ever time I came in I was being followed or judge. Even the was was literally spending upwards of $200 a month in the store. Went in again today to by a big collection for my son but had the same experience. Love the store but not the workers. The young person in the front with a patched out hoodie was awesome. As far as the other 2 learn customer service.
Tried to go sell my Comic; the buyer guy wasnt there and the girl at the front wasnt a very welcoming person. Though I admit, I was already pissed that the guy wasnt there, Im glad he wasnt because I didnt need to sell it after all. I tried to check out the store but the girl up front wanted to hold my comics so they wouldnt get mixed up with theirs. That pissed me off. Not like you have $400 comic (1st issue of X-23, ungraded but easily a 9.7)laying around and do I look like a thief or something? How about you have a sign up or cameras. Just a thought. Will never go to this place again. Though Im sure they wont miss one customer since they are so popular. 😒
I have been a customer of this store for decades, experiencing its growth and expansion from when it was only Brad, the owner behind the counter to the current swath of experienced staff members filling out the vast spaces of the main store. To be blunt, Austin Books is one of the best comic book stores in the nation.Through my travels, I always find time to experience what a new city has to offer in terms of meeting my geek needs and curiosity. Each visit highlights the impressive nature of my home store.Austin Books has a incredible staff, that I have observed providing outstanding service to noobs and veteran nerds alike. The selection is vast and overall fairly priced. There are numerous special events and happenings, ranging from the Mega Labor Day Sale to special events with established and new artists.I recommend this store to any and everyone one who wants to dip their toes into the realm of comics for the first time or who love to deep dive into depths of an almost endless backstock. If you have a negative experience here, it is because you are a negative kind of person.
Make it a point to go to comic book stores of every city that I visit. This is probably one of the biggest comic book stores Ive ever been to. The guys that work there were super passionate and excited to share their favorites with my husband and I. It was extremely hard to walk out spending less than $100 because they had so much great stuff
If you need comics this is the place. There is so much to choose from its mind boggling. I doubt there are very many items you couldnt find here. The store was very busy and staff was present all around the store. There is also a large selection of statues as well. Very impressive.
A staple in the rising culture scene of Austin is the various comic shops in the city. There are more than you think and fewer than you expect so having a GOOD one is important. Austin Books and Comics doesnt disappoint and their catalogue is broad enough to cater to many palettes of comic indulgence.
I was going to shop at this store for magic the gathering cards or card cases and decided against it simply because they have a sign at the front door that says you not welcome inside without a mask... they have no customers inside currently and it will remain that way because no one wants to deal with that... I can’t stand the idea that you would tell me to leave if I don’t play along with you and I, as well as my friends will simply shop elsewhere until it is removed...
I went the day after Free Comic Book day. They still had a big tent outside and I about the previous days chaos. At first I thought maybe Id managed to avoid hassle by not coming on Free Comic Book day but the more I heard about the comraderie and the cosplay, I think it would be fun to go next year. Anyway, great comic book store. I forgot what a treasure it is. Ill have shorten my times between visits!
Huge selection of comics and collectables, very quiet and clean environment and a very convenient location as there is many other comic and game related stores nearby. Connected is the Guzu Gallery which features art from local artists which is really nice. I absolutely recommend taking a visit if youre in the downtown Austin area
I have been to comic book stores around the world. This is hands down one of the best. Varity, materials in stock both in terms of backstop and current publishing, laid out for ease of access, friendly and helpful staff, etc. I have been shopping here for 20 years and seen it only grown better with time.
This is my go to for all geeky merchandise, especially when I need to find a good present. They also host the biggest Free Comic book day every year. I brought my little nephew here on that day and they were so efficient at the lines that you were able to get in and out with 10 comics of your choosing in all about 15 minutes. My little nephew loves the giant hulk statue here and of course we made silly hulk poses and took pictures. Also the other time we came we saw a guy dressed in a deadpool costume so that was extremely fun for him too. The front staff is always super friendly and willing to help you find what you need. Theyre knowledgeable and will greet ya as soon as you walk in the door. The merchandise is moderately priced, most shirts are about 19.99 to 24.99, Pop figures about 9 to 11 bucks (same as amazon prices), mugs about 9.99 to 11.99, pint glasses around 9.99, just to list a few.
HUGE store and selection of all things comic related. This is the Wal-Mart of comic stores because it has an almost overwhelming selection and the pricing is reasonable. What is not WM like is the service and atmosphere. The store and staff is accommodating; and they dont make you feel guilty about pouring over their items with unabashed geeky glee.
One of the best in Austin. Whether you are looking for games, comics or geek collectibles this is the place for you to come. Hard to find and older comics are their specialty and the staff are exceedingly knowledgeable if you are novice looking to read a good comic series or looking for a gift.
Can easily spend hours here with the huge range of comics of all sorts and other stuff you didnt realize existed. Great back catalog....found lots to be nostalgic over. Wonderfully interesting-to-talk-to, but non-agressive, staff. Almost worth a trip to Austin on its own.
Best comic book store in Austin!! I just started reading a few months ago but my boyfriend has a collection worth more than my closet, and they are both super knowledgeable to help him and nice/not rude to someone like me who had to ask what a trade was. I want to give a shout out to the girl who works there who loves the Young Avengers and recommended the first run to me!!!
Some folks take their out-of-town friends to Mount Bonnell, The Drag, The Green Belt, Barton Springs, Town Lake... We take our out-of-towner friends and family to Austin Books & Comics. ABC, as some locals refer to it, has comic culture covered like hash browns at a famous southern breakfast dive but without the endearingly shady diner staff or salty kitchen lingo. They stock monthly issues, manga, trade paperbacks, graphic novels, vintage issues, back issues, statues, high end figures, action figures novelty tees, pint glasses, pins... if they don’t have it, odds are pretty good that they’ll get it for you or it doesn’t exist. Austin Books & Comics is staffed by a knowledgeable team that bucks the stereotypical trend of pencil-thin goateed comic-shop workers with ponytails and the musk of processed fast food. If one ABC’er doesn’t have an answer for any question(s) you might have, you can rest assured that someone on property can jump in and guide you in the right direction. in addition, they have “sibling” stores that specialize in vinyl statues/collectibles, tabletop games and vintage toys. These stores are all in the same shopping center. It’s a great local business to support. Austin Books & Comics is worth your time & money.
First of all stay away from there toys and statues if they are defective they will tell you its not there problem, contact the manufacturer now Im stuck with a statue that wont stand up. And second if you dont fit the part of a nerd they will watch you like a hawk in that store. I seen them walking past each other wispering and doing hand machines to each other like they are some kind of delta task force. And third! They will low ball you on any item you have, I took a real nice collectable item to them and the buyer offered me 20.00 dollars only so I took it to Capstone Comics and he offered 100.00 to buy it, thats a huge difference if you ask me.
Ok- I just wrote a review of Austin Books down the road... I found another one listed- this one- and put in an edit to get it changed to the Sidekick Store. Which I will review now.The Sidekick Store is awwwwwwesomely nerdy cool! They offer their trades at 50% off, which unless you are shopping online you probably cant beat. And arent we all about shopping local? Why not just spend the same amount here? And you wont even have to wait for it to arrive! Itll be right their in your/my grubby little hands. They also have a collectible section, some shirts (not nearly as many- but come on... we should all be living our nerd lives in secret in the dark anyways, not on our chests), and other stuff- like $1 buttons.I was really impressed with the prices they had on just about everything (except the Rorschach figure, which was $18- but clearly HAD been marked $10... really?).Im very excited to take my roommate there, because its even closer than the original- so when he decides to stay for 3 hours, I can just walk home and feel like a superhero.
One of my wife and Is favorite place to buys comics. They practically have all the series of comics from the 40s and up. The staff is AWESOME and helpful and really go out of your way to help you find what your looking for. I recently got a joker comic which I didnt know what to start with, the staff recommend one and Im so happy I bought the comic they recommended and lm hooked on this comic. Oh! and one more thing be sure to take a picture with the HULK sculpture ;)
Back in the day they had a location on Riverside and that was the first comic book shop I ever went to eventually they close that location but I started going to this one the main location that they have now hands down its the best comic book store in the entire city I havent been up there in a while and I really need to get my butt up there but I guarantee you if you need your comic book fix go to Austin Books
One of my favorite places in Austin to geek out. There you will find a friendly staff that is knowledgable and passionate about comics, heroes, board games, all things geek! Their game store is located on the east side of the store called Outlaw Moon. So besides catching up to your favorite hero, you can also get in the competitive spirit and get you some card or dice games.
Huge selection, great signing events, awesome toys and some of the best silk-screen posters Ive ever seen. In the event that Im ever rich, Im probably buying half the store.Pro tip: The Vertigo section (yes, a whole section!) is right next to the indie comic section (yes, a whole section!).
Horrible place to buy figures as they constantly change their prices. Even if it says 224.99.. and u try yo buy.. their greed kicks it oh we forgot to change it sorry... its 450.. but its been labeled for 224.99 for weeks.. oh yea well we forgot to change it...well sounds like horrible management .. will be doing my business else where..many other comic shops still sale at retail. These guys are just super greedy. Stay away.
This is a really fantastic store. Has a great selection of old and new comics, toys, shirts, etc. I havent been a comic book reader since i was a teenager but I always stop into cb stores when i get a chance. Really enjoyed this store and picked up an old Chris Claremont and Jim Lee issue of Uncanny Xmen.
Im not a comic collector but if i were I would go here. I was looking for a gift for my girl friends son who is huge into comics. He was looking for a Walking Dead figure and with me blabbering and the person behind the counter being so patient with me, she was able to figure out which one he was looking for. He loved it and was dead on! I wish i remembered her name, but she had glasses and brownish hair pulled back in a pony tail. Didnt get mad at me, lose their temper, or snap at me once. I wish i had patience like that.
I was eight when I started shopping at Austin Books, by begging my folks to drive me there from Georgetown. Im now 32 and shop there on occasion. I used to love going there but lately, not so much. Last time I was there, I blew $100 on comics, and was STILL followed to my car by the guy on their YouTube channel. I dunno about this place, but if your hip, trendy, and cool, expect to be welcomed. If youre a long time customer, you can see a lot of changes and arrogance in the place. Nuff said.

2022-05-01Exceptionally great experience. I walked in and was greeted by some very nice staffers. I told them it was my first visit there and they immediately offered to guide me on a tour of the store! I only had them answer some questions and direct me to what I was looking for but the offer was still very nice if them. There is a massive selection of collectibles and even more books and comics. I actually found so many issues I wanted to buy I had to take a breath and put some back so I wouldnt break my bank account. Haha. 6/5 and will definitely be returning time and time again.

2022-03-10You talk about rare items, at great prices. Plus it really is worth subscribing to them I mean these guys rock, they rock my balls off! For those of us that are stuck here with the same mimic book stores in San Antonioit really is worth going up the road and just seeing what they have now I have yet to go in there and negotiate because Im big on Golden age stuff but the day will come.

2022-03-06Is the best comic store in Austin. The amount of material and knowledge the store has is unparalleled.the only thing that would make the store more awesome, Was if they had a robust pre owned collectibles section. As a avid collector it can be hard finding out of prints, And I hate going on Amazon and eBay when I can find it locally.

2022-05-01Friendly staff and a fairly large store. Wide selection of toys, pops, comics, etc. Prices were good, they offer military discounts as well. Still require masks and make sure you bring your own bag. Conveniently located next to two additional stores with collectibles. Found some older NECA figures at one and some nice HIYA figures at the other.

2022-02-27I havent had the pleasure of going here in person, but the couple times I ordered online were great! The books were shipped fast and were packaged very securely. Definitely no need to worry about the books being damaged during shipping.

2022-06-13Ive been coming here for years and it does my heart good to see my oldest son now bring his son (my grandson) to the same shop. Its just a magical and wonderful place. Like going back in time and yet, so current with the times.

2022-04-04Hey yall, normally love this store but not super happy with the most recent experience. Didnt catch the workers name.Tall scraggly white man with long blonde hair, works at the store.Started off as great customer service: being attentive to my friend looking around the aisles, asking probing questions.Quickly devolved into another dude who doesnt get that no means no.Hope this behavior gets addressed in store. Might be some time before were back in there. Not a super safe space for women and non-binary friends.

2022-03-10Not just the best in Austin, this comic shop beats stores Ive been to in many cities. Any place can have all the new comics and figures, but Austin Books & Comics has a huge variety of new and old, many back issues, easy browsing... and an atmosphere which is welcoming to all. Truly, Five Stars.
