I was there on 4/8/22. The food was absolutely delicious! There was one waitress waiting on 14 tables. I thought the wait for our food would be long, but she was amazing! She serviced all 14 tables quickly and with a pleasant attitude. I will definitely be going back!!
Yesterday we went in early to beat Friday crowds and ordered our rolls by 4:30. We talked and waited more than one hour for our food! But we never got our food because they served the table next to us first who sat down 30 minutes after we ordered and then walked over and asked to take our order like we had just walked in! They had one waitress and another girl who I am honestly not sure what her job was as she only brought soup to the tables, not even helping the waitress if she was suppose to in training. No one was bussing the tables or taking drink orders. Even the sushi chef couldnt do his job because he had to come out and take orders. We usually come here at least twice a month but wont be back again. We left after one hour and 10 minutes without eating anything! I get that establishments are short staffed, but hire someone to at least bus the tables and take drink orders so the one waitress on staff can do her job.
I ordered online Thru seamless and received a text when my order was ready 15 min later. I get to the place and my order isn’t ready. It’s not even on the bar. There’s obviously an issue with the order because the waitress called the manager over to the tablet where she was standing, but no one bothers to fill me in. I’ve been here atleast 5 times, and while the food is good, the service has been TERRIBLE. No one speaks, if they do, it’s completely monotone. I’m typing this review as I sit and wait for my order (which I still don’t know what’s going on) after 10 plus min of waiting. After another 5 min, I was just handed my order without so much of a “sorry” or “thank you”. Just a “here you go”. I would rather drive 40 min out of my way to get better customer service because this is ridiculous.
Update! For over 3 years now, every time i visit, the experience gets better. The entire staff seems to improve consistently. One Of My Very Few Go To Places In Cedar Hill! Each time Ive visited this place, Ive had an enjoyable experience. The rolls are large, filling, and always fresh. Theres a lot to choose from on the menu, plus a 2 for 30 deal that works out perfectly. Oh, try the baby lobster (crawfish roll in photo)
We went to eat after church but the service was slow. I think they need to hire people. This was my first visit but my family has been before and they started complaining about the service being slow and we had sit a whole and we got tea but no menus so after some more complaining we left so i didnt get to eat but the boat plates were cute. They had quite a few diners inside..
I will give it a brownie for the presentation of the food. The sashimi was on a stone bowl and sushi roll were on boats. The stone bowl could be useful for serving hot soup to keep the temperature and the taste. The boats is a little too big if we order many rolls. My husband is not Asian so he barely knows how to use chopstick to pick the food and the boat really got him. There were two servers and only 3 tables on that Saturday night but they were very slow serving food. The hot and cold sake were more like syrup than just one or two drops to make flavored drink. There was immitation crab on almost every roll. I didnt enjoy my choice as much. I would appreciate the owner to pay more attention on the freshness of the food and the serving time instead of buying much expensive bowl and boats for simple rolls. I agree on using the boat for large party order but not on single roll. What if we have a big party of ten and we order like 20 rolls. We wont have enough space to move around.
This was me an my husband first time here an i can not get over how good it is, we normally go to zennas in mesquite or downtown but there food has gone downhill. But this place we right here is WAY!!!!! better an prices are better as well we order 3 appitizer the tempura shrimp, fried spring rolls an fried calamari then we had 4 different sushi rolls an literally everything was perfect i can not wait to go back again
Its an average price sushi place with a little bit of style. They have a variety of sushi rolls but a majority of them are very exotic and most wouldnt eat, not that that is bad. They also have other foods that unlike other one dish/culture oriented resturaunts, are actually good.
Sometimes I’ve come here and I do not like what I order. You have to know what you want but I like to try new things. The other day I went and everything I ordered was delicious ! Literally everything. Would deff recommend. In the picture you’ll see the shrimp tempura crunch roll, fried shrimp roll, Phili roll, volcano roll, California crunch roll, and California roll.
I LOVE THIS PLACE ITS NOT EXPENSIVE AT ALL. I was so full trying to finish half of this meal, the people there are so nice and genuine! The sushi was fresh and I didnt have to wait long. I would definitely recommend this to others for a quick bite especially when youre on the go. 🙌🙌
Good food for an affordable price. I got salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri, and the eel roll. No complaints on anything. Eel roll was definitely good and was tasty till the last piece. Salmon and tuna sushi was pretty standard, nothing special but still good. Also the rolls and entrees come with either a bottle of hot sake, cold sake, or wine. Atmosphere could be a little nicer, but it’s whatever. I would bring my friends here.
Ok I understand the labor shortage. But when we walked in every table that didnt have people sitting was fifty dirty. When someone would leave they would take their plates and put it on another table so two more people could be seated. The food took over an hour and they brought it out plate by plate even brought the wrong order twice.. Will not go back..
Good sushi, poor everything elseI’ve been eating at Avocado for years for one reason: the sushi is good. If that’s all you care about, go. You’d think that would be sufficient to merit a better star rating, but unfortunately taste isn’t everything. As I’ve been a frequent customer here for years, I can attest to an average experience and not a single bad visit, and, on average this location is always slow (even if you’re the only customer), servers never appear to enjoy their job, it’s impossible to get timely refills on drinks, the decor is lackluster and the overall experience is just so much below what it should be.I went again this week and again the place was nearly empty, with maybe 3 parties seated. Despite that, it took about 10 minutes for us to just place our order (we knew what we wanted when we arrived).During our visit, we sat on uncomfortable wooden seats listening to a sound system with blown speakers (not exaggerating) gurgle out distorted pop hits. The server looked bored to the point of pain. We had a party of three and two of our meals arrived after a long wait, the third was delayed. The server never once refilled our glasses the entire visit.Good luck trying to visit their website. Despite a pandemic, their online presence is non-existent or painfully outdated with their Google business hours incorrect, so you might show up when they are marked “open” but they are actually closed.Overall, the owners don’t seem to care about this place, despite the fact is has prime real estate, excellent sushi and so much potential.I want this place to be better. As a marketing and design professional myself, I want to help them fix this so Cedar Hill can have a decent sushi place that doesn’t look like it’s a delinquent leftover from a bad 70’s movie with miserable staff.Only go there if (1) you are not in a hurry (2) you’re not deterred by straight backed wooded booths (3) you don’t mind flagging down the server for everything
The food is really good, the miso soup is amazing and the sushi is the best weve had in a while, but it takes FOREVER to get it. Weve had to walk out before because after 30 minutes we didnt even have water or the opportunity to place an order. If you arent in a hurry and grabbing sushi with friends its fine, but I dont think well be returning if it takes 3 hours to eat dinner on a slow weekday.
This place was horrible. Horrible customer service!!!! I’m a recent transplant to Texas and have been so many places since moving. This is hands down the worst place I’ve been. You can get much better tasting sushi in a cleaner and friendlier environment. We waited 40 minutes for my food and there was only one other couple in the facility. Nobody came to our table to get us drinks or anything. We had to go up to the counter and ask to be waited on.When we got the food, my order was completely incorrect.I will never eat here again.
Food was good BUT poor service! I thought I’d give it another try and same thing. Waited forever before anyone acknowledged us, then took our order and didn’t bring drinks until our food came. Never going back. They need some waiters/waitresses to dedicate time just to customers needs.
On a journey to find the best sushi in the DFW Metroplex this is definitely a place that I see myself coming back to. The service here is great and guys let me tell you about the sushi! Thumbs up and 5 stars all the way. Good place to bring some friends to enjoy some good sushi and sake!
I forgot to take a picture of my order but I was pleasantly surprised by the raspberry sake as it didnt give me the quick buzz is was accustomed to with Traditional warm sake.I ordered the First love Roll i enjoyed it but i forgot to ask for no avocado -ironic, i know- and my favorite spicy tuna roll 🍣and in had to get some Smoked Salmon Sashimi that was super flavorful. 😋😋 Will HAVE to come back.
I found out that this places is under new management so I figured that Id give it another chance. Im glad I did!Its WAY better than before. They actually care about the customers now. Service has improved. The atmosphere has improved. The menu has improved (some great Korean BBQ).Everything was delicious!Im not usually a fan of the complimentary miso soup that comes with Asian food (its usually really bland) the one here is awesome!! It shows how much they care about the taste of the food. Each roll I had was high quality and very fresh. Ive had most of the sushi places in the area, and I can tell you that this is definitely the best sushi around. If you havent been you need to go, and if have been you need to go back and see how much better its become!
I had forgotten this little gem. Where other places have either raised their prices and reduced the size of their rolls this business has kept fair prices and full plates. If you can eat in, I suggest you do so. Dine in gets free miso soup plus freshly made sushi and tasty appetizers. Swing by for lunch and try the bento box. Comes with a lil of everything and worth it! Order ahead for take out or wait at the spacious counter watching the masters make your rolls. Either way good food!!
There just has to be better Sushi places than this. Almost everything was bad on our visit here. To me its never a good sign when the floor and tables seem sticky. Also, the waitress and other staff were not wearing face masks, which was pretty surprising. I dont care what you think about masks but if you are in food service, talking close to people, reaching over people, and serving them their food and drinks, then you should be wearing one. The sushi was maybe alright. My son got something with cream cheese and it was so overloaded with cream cheese it was hard to eat. There also wasnt a lot of variety in the rolls. It seems a lot of their rolls start off with crab meat, many of them. The side salad was also disappointing. I think giant boats for the sushi seemed unnecessary and seem kind of tacky. I guess it matches the rest of their decor. Over all not good and would not go back. The fried calamari was decent, I will give them that.
OMG! I love this place so much! Their sushi is amazing, so are their prices. Happy hour prices are also amazing! I had my first sake here, and I liked it. Service is always great. I usually meet a client up here, and if I request more time, they honor that. They do not try to rush you out of the restaurant and they usually gauge if you want a talkative server, or if you would prefer quiet time. I totally recommend this place! It is one of my favorites!
I work here and the food is great. The Stamp Card deal is good, espically if you order a lot of food. Took some of my friends here and they loved it while Tim was here and they loved it with the new owners were here. The prices are reasonable and the quality is good. I will always come here.
Avocado is the absolute best in Cedar Hill and the surrounding area! My wife and I go there very often and their food is the best and their service is second to none! They know all their customers and treat everyone like family. We will never go somewhere else when Avocado is an option! Thank you guys so much for your kindness and service, you are the best!
I really wanted to like this place but my experience was not good. Ordered the lunch bento with tuna roll. The fish smelled bad. I’ve had tuna at many other places but it has never smelled. The odor was strong enough for the person next to me to say it stunk. I sent it back in fear of getting sick. I was still charged $5 for ordering. They offered to replace it but I refused since the person next to me also found a hair in their food. I was disgusted overall.
SAVE YOURSELVES AND GO ACROSS 1382 TO SUZUSHII- THAT PLACE IS AMAZING... If there was a rating for 0 stars this place would hands down have earned it. Terrible service and the food was mediocre at best- it was pricey for food that was amazing, but for what we were served the price was ridiculous. Id have preferred a greasy fast food icky meal. Worst sushi Ive ever had- they dumped sauce on every roll we ordered and it all tasted exactly the same. The bowl my husband ordered was so over-sauced it was swimming and slimy. Our cold rolls were lukewarm and the rolls that were supposed to be served hot were cold. We will never go back- it was $100 for four of us. And we will be warning anyone who mentions visiting to steer clear. Had to go home and find something else to eat just to get the taste out. YUCK
Update: I AM THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SPOT! I WENT IN TO PICK UP MY TO GO ORDER, THE WOMAN WHO TOOK MY ORDER HAD NO MASK ON! I WATCHED HER CLOSE MY SUSHI BOX AND BAG IT, AND RETURN TO THE REGISTER ALL WITH NO MASK! THIS IS A HUGE HEALTH CONCERN AS I AM A CHEF AND WHEN DEALING WITH COOKED FOOD IN ANY CAPACITY YOU MUST WEAR A MASK! Never coming backListen Im not one to make reviews but I was so happy with the service and sushi that I had to say something. Theyre under new management so my fiance and I decided to give them a shot... Im glad we did. Free sake and miso soup with every purchase when you dine in and 10% off Monday-Thursday!!!! I love it, new favorite spot... True story.
I wouldnt give this place any stars, if that were an option. So its Valentines Day. Hubby and I decide to go to Avocado for our dinner. We walk in, and are informed that we are to seat ourselves. Thats fine. No big deal. We then wait for nearly ten minutes for the lady to bring our menus, and take our drink orders. We needed a few extra minutes to decide what we were going to get,and our waitress (who is African American, average build, wearing a green head wrap of some sort) appeared to be displeased by this. Apparantly she was so displeased that she decided NOT to come back to our table AT ALL. It only took an extra 3ish minutes to pick our meals, but ended up waiting for 20 more minutes. I finally got the attention of another waitress (long blonde hair, thin to athletic build) to ask if Anyone could please take our order. She said she would go get Our server. I saw her go up to our server, and speak to our server. Our server didnt even look in our direction, even when she walked right past our table 2 separate times. The blonde waitress had walked by, and stopped to let us know that she informed our server that we were ready to order. After speaking to the blonde waitress the first time, we waited another 20 minutes. We finally gave up, and just gave the blonde waitress 5 dollars for our drinks so we could leave. Ive never received such awful service. This is the 2nd time weve received terrible service at this restuarant. We will Not be going back. Its no wonder the place was practically empty.Worst Restaurant in Cedar Hill.
We really wanted to like this place, and we gave it more than a fair try but sadly its terrible. The atmosphere was dead on a Friday night, but they told us they are normally busy.First off, almost every roll, seriously all of them are filled with cheap imitation crab meat. Secondly, our waiter was a nice kid, but creepily lurked over us the entire time. Probably because the place was empty, but standing right next to us as we eat and squeezing pimples on his arms was way too much! Sad to see another Cedar Hill business destined to fail. Im only writing this review in hopes that someone who can fix this place sees this and makes things better.
You guys have to try this place. It has a nice quiet atmosphere and the sushi is delicious! I just started eating sushi near the end of last year. The chicken california roll is the best! The service was awesome. I went yesterday evening for dinner for the first time and again today for lunch.
I love this restaurant. My boyfriend knows I love this place and will take me here on our “hump day late dinner dates”, I enjoy it so much! Their raspberry soki is sooo goood! Did I mention it comes free when you order an entree?!! There’s a young lady who works here, she’s always my server or the young man and I love their service. Definitely recommend coming here!! ( well when this lockdown is over) haha
This is the best sushi Ive ever had, and I have tried the best sushi places in Dallas and Austin. They have amazing quality sushi. I eat here every few weeks and not once have I ever gotten sick, something I can not say of its competitor Suzushi across the road. Overall, if you like great sushi, come to Avocado. They have great deals, and the sushi chef is extremely kind and has given out free rolls in the past. You wont regret it.Update (2 years later): They changed management a while back so I removed my comment about their service. It is more than fantastic now and I still can’t recommend it enough.
I had lunch at this restaurant last month, but their service was horrible. However, I enjoyed everything, the food, the service were all first class today. Their service is completely changed and so kindly. I shall be recommending this restaurant to my friends as we are always looking for somewhere with good food.
This site is my favorite restaurant. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to visit this restaurant. Whenever I feel like having a proper lunch, this place comes right away to my mind. exeptionalgorgeous and all kinds of food and a rich menu.professional team, and good atmosphere. Also, the pay is modest. I recommend this spot with no hesitation.
Came on a Saturday evening, no waiter around sat our self. There was two waiters walk passed us several time, not once ask if we had been help. Then when we asked for one of the waiters they look at each other, like who going to take care of them. We just walked out, not a place I will be coming back.
I order online and I order a udon soup and they gave me just water and this is two times they did To me and I went in person and I never had the worst experience of my life until I entered that door and they made me wait two hours and the place wasnt busy!!!! They have preference of people of eating in than ordering out and they didnt even apologize or even did anything to compensate for my troubles. I hope this business dies out soon because customer service is the worst I ever seen and experience!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Very nice ambience. I ordered the salmon teriyaki. It came with a flavorful miso soup. Plated was sushi rice, salmon with a teriyaki glaze and salad with a sweet flavor dressing. The only critiques I have is the salad is made of Iceberg lettuce which I find rather disgusting. A nice romaine would be perfect. Also they give 2 small pieces of salmon. I was expecting more based on the picture. Great customer service and an overall nice dining experience.
Weve been coming here for the past year its our favourite little spot for amazing food at a great price! Under new management and at first things were shakey but after coming back a few more times they have gotten the hang of it and we can enjoy our favorite spot once again with the awesome service and food that keeps us coming!
The sushi is good but the service could use some work. Our server kept forgetting about us and other customers orders. Our food took about 45 minutes to come out which wouldnt be an issue other than the fact the there were only two other tables being served. The food was a little overpriced. Probably wouldnt come back
I really dont understand how this place is still open. Weve been twice and both times it was pretty empty but it still took over 45 minutes to get three rolls. The sushi was just ok but the service was awful. Oddly, there are 2 other sushi joints in Cedar Hill so one bad one isnt a total loss.
I love sushi and have tried many places, but once i came to Avocado I found my calling. This is the only sushi place I will ever go to again, because it is so amazing and there’s tons of rolls to choose from. My favorites are the crunchy shrimp tempura and the cedar hill rocknroll.
Were big Korean BBQ foodies (specifically bulgogi/samgyeopsal) and its really hard to find authenticity. Avocado seems to have found a great recipe to success; good authentic food, and great service. They genuinely look to give you an experience youll enjoy. New management is great!Side note: order the champong ramen (extra spicy with a side of lemon wedges). Thank me later 😉
The owner of this location is a wonderful individual!!!!! The location is in the heart of Cedar Hill !!!!! The food is great !!!! Yes shy must know what to order!!!!!! Sake yes! Soups are yummie and dessert is available as well !!!!!!!! I will eat there again and again.

2022-07-26Great place even though its right next to the shopping center. We came in and no one wanted to wait on us. It was our first time and non of the ladies there was like let me help. We went to the front grabbed a menu and looked. Then went to a table and then the waitress finally asked us togo or for here. She was nice after she took our order and apologized for not greeting us. The food was great we got the $30 special, 2 rolls valued at $14 each and 2 appetizers and 2 miso soups 🍲 . Everything was great and we enjoyed it. Will go back if we are ever by.

2022-07-26Got here about 30 minutes before closing but it took waitress about 13 minutes to get to us for a drink. Kitchen closes at 8:50pm so we had one shot at ordering our sushi. Cant complain. The price is great!!! The food delicious. 👌💕

2022-06-19We really enjoyed this sushi spot in Cedar Hill. It’s on the outside of the mall, so parking isnt a problem, though a tree has obscured the main sign and logo. The service was subpar, but we really enjoyed the dishes themselves. We did the crunchy crab roll and the New Orleans roll which were both great, flavorful, and pretty filling. It’s also quiet which we appreciated from a conversation piece as we didn’t have to yell to hear each other. It’s not a gourmet sushi spot, but we will definitely become regulars here.

2022-04-07It was around 1700 on a Monday and I needed a snack before my wax appointment. The parking lot was empty and there was only one person dinning in when we walked in. The service was so nice and super efficient! My volcano roll was originally supposed to be an “oven roll” meaning cooked but I don’t like warm sushi. The server didn’t even hesitate to let me know, that “yes we can make it without having to put it in the oven if you want it raw” which I DID! Oh as soon as they bring you, your drinks, your miso soup comes too!! The food came pretty fast (only one person in there!) but there was a BUNCH of to go orders. I wouldn’t drive 40mins to come here, BUT if your shopping in the area or work near by or you’re waiting for your appointment or live near by I’d DEFINITELY give this place a try!

2022-04-08It wasn’t too bad. The wait was pretty long for me but they had a lot of orders. It may have just been the day I went but they were really understaffed. They had one waitress and she was doing everything for the most part. So much that the sushi chef had to come help take orders. I didn’t get to take pictures of everything I got but the dragon sushi, crunchy shrimp tempura and the fried calamari rolls were all delicious. The samurai roll wasn’t all that tasty to me but that’s just me.

2022-01-23This place is very nice. It looks modern outside but traditional inside. The food is very good and the staff are very helpful. The bento box is very good. We enjoyed our meals.

2021-08-05We came right when they opened for a lunch meeting with a friend. They have a very nice selection is sushi, and the Columbus Roll I had was very tasty and came on a boat dish. Or items came with a free bowl of Miso Soup, and was very well priced. Business was starting to pick up when we were leaving, seemed like a popular spot.

2022-07-28Edited: went back a second time, service was timely and service was great. Happy to give them five stars because their food is great. We’ve found our new favorite sushi spot in Cedar Hill.Went here for pickup. The sushi is quite good, the best I’ve had in Cedar Hill. The order was ready 40 minutes later than the time that was given, which I don’t mind so much, but a roll was missing when I got home, and the girl behind the counter was almost impressively antisocial. Sushi counters are usually kind of fun even if you’re sitting and waiting, but here, no acknowledgement besides, “Name?…20 minutes.” And then, “Here you go,” 40 minutes later. Like, I don’t know, see if I want a drink maybe? Upsell me, come on. Would be a win win.Anyway, we tried to call several times and rectify the missing roll situation, but there was no answer. Hence the review. We’ll go back because the food was so good. They really should be five stars.
