Food was good. No one greeted us at the door, so I wasnt sure if I should just sit, so I did. Ignored for a while, not too long, maybe 5 minutes, and then our waiter came. Service was friendly but a but slow. Was finished eating for a while before we got the check. The one unisex bathroom had a lot of sticky fluid on the floor. I understand the need for a unisex bathroom, but it was pretty gross. In fairness, they were quite busy.
Cold Beer, Hot Food, and Cool People!Lots of beer on top, good cocktails, margaritas, etc.The Irish Nachos are good enough to just sit down and eat the whole order by yourself, or if you have to share them then theyre a good starter for 3 or 4 people.Try the Meatball Sub when its up on the daily specials board, its delicious.
1st time being here. Maybe the bartender is having an off night. I ordered a whiskey sour and amaretto sour. What we got was a glass full of sour.... absolutely no alcohol. Very disappointed. Now I see why everyone around me only have beer. Hard to mess up a bottle of beer.....smh. Probably wouldnt be back.
This is a neighborhood sports bar in southwest Austin, right along Mopac, nestled between the Circle C, Sendera, and Tanglewood Forest neighborhoods. Menu is bar food, but its good quality and theres good selection. Draught beer selection always has some local craft stuff on tap, along with the usual big beer mainstays. Staff is friendly. Seating is well above average comfort. Lots of bars have hard wood and poorly contoured seating that becomes uncomfortable. Backspin has a bunch of plush seats where you can watch an entire game in comfort. Theres a digital jukebox with good and current selection if you want to customize the vibe for a stretch.
Make this 3.5 ☆ or even 4 as I wasnt in a great mood and my food was fine. I had beef, bean and cheese nachos with sour cream and salsa on the side and they were good. I had a beer, of course, and it was colder than I expected and I like that kind of surprise. I usually go to the Belterra location of Backspin and the atmosphere is very different than the Slaughter location which I learned is the original store. The music is up pretty loud and its definitely not light rock. I usually like it when the rock n roll is cranked up but I went to watch sports. Its a much smaller space and it feels more like a neighborhood bar than Belterra. Im sorry Im not describing the food but you have two distinct choices between the two locations. If youre in the bar mood with loud music, plenty of TVs and no kids running around check out the Slaughter location. Make it 4☆ after all.
Unusually good food for a sports bar. One of the few places in South Austin to get a Reuben with corned beef (made in house!) instead of pastrami. We ordered takeout; it was ready right on time. Reasonable social distancing; my only recommendation would be to label where people need to wait to pick up food.
Good food, nice to be able to sit outside. Just make sure your beer glass is not cracked. If you bring it to the servers attention, you will get your old beer back in a new glass. No attempt to refresh the beer or any consideration that some residue could be in the glass. This is what happened to me. Surprising treatment since the manager seems to be more attuned to the customer than our server on this evening.
Way over priced! Especially for a glass of wine. Also the food was not that good, and horrible ambiance. If your idea of a nice dinner out is a loud, open, noisy restaurant; this may be your spot! I understand its a sports bar, but not at all a good layout for a restaurant. The only good aspect was the our waiter. Thats it!
Decent place to eat but not a place I beg to go to. It is clean and decorated nicely. There are not that many options to choose from on the menu. I have ordered a steak there multiple times. The steak comes to you on a sizzling plate (kind of like when you order fajitas at a Sports Bar) which is kind of odd, and the grease from the steak flies everywhere on the table which I dont like.
I went in on a Sunday night and it was fantastic. My server, Jessica, was amazing! Super friendly, very attentive, and pleasantly polite.I eat burgers from a lot of places and she recommended one of THE BEST patty melts I’ve ever had in my 26 years of life.Definitely going back!!!
Best local pub: a good value for food and drinks; great food menu, not just bar menu. Check daily specials and best soups in TX; the chef is from way up north and knows real daily Soups. Try them all.#2 location in Dripping/ Bellterra on 290. Also great.Cheers to the Staff !!
This is truly a hidden gem. The size and feel let you know your walking into a local bar as soon as you come in. With a bar that goes half way down the inside you get that Midwest local bar feel. With local beers on tap and a full bar they got you covered no matter what your choice of libation. The place would be cool enough with all the sports on tv, plenty to drink from a great wait staff, but it doesnt stop there. From their little kitchen they crank out great food and have a brunch menu that makes this one of my favorite Sunday stops. Its one of the only small local bars in the area and the best brunch in the area.
This place is probably the best place in town to eat. Both the locations,1 in Austin on slaughter Lane and 1 in Dripping Springs in belterra village have amazing food. Executive chef Joseph has an amazing palate and continuously surprises and delights with his creations. If you have not tried this place you are missing out! Try the soups they are delicious.
Absolutely the best sportsbar food in Austin. Blue cheese burger is outstanding as are the Irish nachos. Great yet simple menu.Dont miss the turn (turn like you are going to Wendys) or it is a long way back.Small place regularly packed with happy patrons.Recently expanded (doubled in size) for more fun. A little louder than it use to be but just have another bevy and get loud with the happy folk
My favorite sports bar in town. Good amount of drinks on tap and tasty, affordable food. They call it a neighborhood bar but I think they should franchise. The workers are nice and they will talk to you and make you feel at home. You get all the NFL games during the season and they let you choose which games to watch. They also serve brunch on Sundays.
Went there with friends - been there before. Probably for a younger crowd. Noisy, Friendly staff, menu is limited to Bar & Grill, except there was a prime rib special available. My wife ordered that and she was quite pleased! But, I ordered a scotch on the rocks - got a scotch & COKE - WTH!After our orders were in - we got a new waitress - thought it was shift change - but, no, the other waitress kept serving others in the vicinity.Another surprise - I asked for mayo for my chicken sandwich - guess what - its $.50 extra!!Another surprise - I was charged an extra $1 for the ice in my drink!!!When I questioned the waitress about these extraneous charges - She said - I just follow the rules.Never before has that ever happened to me anywhere - What an insult!!Probably wont be back anytime soon.
I waited about 20 minutes for the Irish nachos, its french fries with some bacon, queso, and jalepeno. The nachos are 7.99 and I got about 15 fries(not joking) I would like to post a picture with this as well because I was shocked. Smells good but Ill never go back. Sad I work right across the street and thought itd be a nice place to go for lunch but definitely not!!
My favorite local neighborhood bar! Super friendly, attentive staff! $2.50 draft ZiegenBocks everyday, variety of Texas beers on tap, and awesome daily drink specials. Good menu with lots of option in addition to your favorite bar foods. Lots of TVs and a patio, so good place to watch the games!
I wanna give this place 1 star so no one will come here, but thats just not fair to the amazing staff. The food is great! Everything is prepared here fresh. No frozen food. Good beer.Gets packed fast and seating can be difficult to find at times, but thats because this is such a good place.
Another enjoyable visit but when I got there, they did not even have the Astros game on. They quickly and happily changed the channel on request, but no volume. I really miss the days when sports bars actually let you listen to the game rather than music. Certainly decreases the odds of my return. The BLT was mediocre but the hand cut fries were outstanding
Terrible service. This place is just a few miles from where I live and I was hoping to be a returning customer. We waited 15 minutes after ordering a water and a beer and asking to change the channel and walked out. Waterloo Ice House is a much better sports bar down the road and they changed the channel and got our food and drinks without hesitation.
My wife and I had lunch here today to watch France and Nigeria play in the World Cup. The food was decent (we had some wings, a patty melt and a roast beef sandwich) and the service was attentive. My wife has some special dietary requirements, and our server and the kitchen staff were happy to get her the information that she needed about the food we were ordering.Backspin has plenty of TVs inside and outside, with a nice big one in the main dining area. The sound was turned down when we came in, but when they noticed that we were were watching the game, they immediately turned up the volume without us even having to ask.Well definitely be coming back here.
I have been coming to this bar since I was 21. 7 years later it is still my number one place to go. BKAY is the best in the wild wild west, she slings shots like doc hoilday. And she never misses. She is an elite chick and pretty much the only reason I still go to this bar.
The remodel made all the difference!!!! The pre-remodel Backspin was not good in my opinion. Is it a bar or a restaurant? The new Backspin is awesome. Great horseshoe bar in the middle with tables all around. A lot more TVs. This place has the best food for any sports bar, no contest.
At first it was ok but it went downhill from there. I ordered the Smithville Moonshine Margarita and it tasted like pure lemon juice. Our waitress Heather H. was initially attentive but then decided to sit down at a table behind us & chat with some friends of hers. Heather H. was WAY more attentive to the 3 guy friends sitting behind us than the other customers.Boyfriends commentsOK the place was way to small, the service sucked and seriously I could probably make better drinks with mop water. You could not really hear anything going on because the drunks at the bar...... And really whats up with the random dude walking in and getting behind the bar????????
First time there after work across the street. Ran into a buddy of mine who is a regular and was introduced to Elizabeth the lizard and treated GREAT! 👍 Was in in out due to travel next morning but cool atmosphere. Definitely going to stop by more often between business and my night shifts.
Reuben sandwich, garlic fries and the sriracha teriyaki wings was delicious and worth the price but Gyro Greek was tasteless, not even real lamb meat and its more expensive than Reuben. Also Shiner bock is not part of the happy hour, our server said it was then charge us normal price. They dont have happy hour menu so triple check. Lol
I stopped by with some friends to have a drink because I live nearby. I ordered a beer and a shot at the bar only to be told that the waitress will take it out to me. The women behind wasnt busy and seemed put off by my request. I waited 20 minutes and then left with my friends only to be accused of not paying for the drinks I never received. This is a sad excuse for a bar and I will never return here since which which is now closed.
Past visits were good but today some how I was not serviced by bartender.I usaully eat and get a drink watch end of Astros game.I sit ask for Budlight but forgot they dont carry so I have had Bud before .She came back said out of Bud .So I ask for water and menu she never came back I mean she got drinks for several people and even in front of me no water no nothing Ive had her 2 to 3 times always good a little slow taking care of people she knows but service good Other day I had a small petite girl very good even during the reunion Saturday it was very busy..I had been there 6 to 7 times in 3 weeks since I have been in Austin and tip descent 20 to 30 %.I guess regulars only club lol.Dont go there unless you know people there.Thats the way it seemed..

2022-04-15My bartender tonight was so fast & polite. His bar was so busy but I never felt overlooked. I think his name was Nate. Will definitely be back!

2022-05-13Fine place for drinks, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. For an $18 burger and fries, I expected something more than an overcooked patty with too much sauce and soggy lettuce. It wasnt *bad*, just not something Id seek out again.Friendly staff, though! I might come back again on a night where food is not my main objective.

2022-04-14I can’t say much about the food because the service was so bad I couldn’t get to the food part. I walk in, no greeting no acknowledgement, the bartender looks me right in the eye.I sit down and scan the menus on my card and trying to figure out the drinks on draft because they’re not in the menu. Not gonna find out from th bartender cause he’s still ignoring me. Then another guy comes from the back and they kick up a conversation.Still waiting to be acknowledged.I figure. Surely he sees me straining to see the graft beers he’ll come over soon.Nope.Their conversation ends and he walks off to another table around the bar to clear the plates and cups.I sit there still. Finally I said forget it and left. This was not a busy night. Maybe 4 other people at the bar. Not a lot of tables maybe 2.No wonder if this is the service they provide. Save yourself the time and go some where else. This pace an immediate fail.

2022-07-22Just went and had a very sweet and attentive server. I didn’t get his name. He was a young African American guy that had a nose piercing. Best service I’ve ever had at Backspin!

2022-03-05Close to home. Two of us had the BLT sandwich and it was great. The service was very good .One waiter handling 5 tables. If you want to eat out be patient and kind.
