Barnes & Noble in other cities:
Friendly staff and good service. They helped me hold a book in the front check out desk, and when I come to pick it up it’s really quick and easy. They have a loyalty problem, if you pay to become their member, for a year you can enjoy discount. It might be helpful for people who buy a lot books from them. They also have some gifts, note books, gift bags you can buy.
Good ambience, clean, well stocked. Visited in December, that day they they had a group of teenagers singing Christmas Carols, beautifuly performed. I found nice stuff on sale. I would have given 5 stars if the ladies at the register where giving smiles and have put more effort in customer service.
My experience was terrible. Item was advertised to be on sale, along with the rest of the items stock. When went to checkout, they said my total was 4x whats listed. When brought to the manager they said “someone else” put the discount sticker on the item. Management embarrassed me and made me stand by the checkout for 10+mins while they proved what I said was true. Manager wouldn’t compensate for anything, and was the worst customer experience I have ever had. Maybe have your employees mark sales correctly 🙄 0/10 the worst booksellers ever, stick to Amazon.
This store is nearly in disrepair. Its sad because you can tell it was once worth a visit, but its obvious that whoever is in charge of taking care of this place is not doing their job.The lights upstairs are so close to being strobes at this point, they should come with a seizure warning. Shopping upstairs for longer than 5 minutes without getting a migraine from the flickering lights is a feat. I dont think Ive visited once where both escalators were working. Staff is usually okay, but when I asked the cashier for a bag with my purchase, you would have thought I asked her for the keys to her car - and then she tried to talk me out of it. A bag. It was weird and uncomfortable.I like supporting brick and mortar bookstores, but whoever is in charge here needs to give it some TLC fast, and give your poor cashiers some bags, because youre making it difficult.
Store has declined markedly over the past few years, and staff used to be merely indifferent and now presents as flat out rude! (except David, you rock bro) Likewise the book and periodical selection is has degraded from just mediocre to flat out abysmal. Spend your money at Book People instead. Id buy from Amazon over these clowns and I hate Amazon.
I love the store. They have wonderful variety of books and other holiday specials too. I plan to go again for Christmas gifts. Its the place to go in my book. You can find something for everybody there. There is a cheesecake factory right by there to eat too if you are hungry. What a bonus! They have great food and the best cheesecake in the world.
Been coming here ever since I was a little kid it has a special place in my heart but Im making a review today because I experienced one of the most rudest customer service Representatives ever. I was trying to buy a set of manga as a birthday present for my sister so I wanted to ask if how many volumes of said manga did they have in stock. When I tried asking the service representative, they would interrupt me at every start of my sentence as if they were trying to rush through a simple call. I understand I tried calling an hour before closing but she was making the process uncomfortable an an unnecessarily long because she wouldnt let me finish my sentence. She gave an aggressive response and started counting out all the numbers of volumes that they had in stock as if I offended her. I quickly wanted to end the call as soon as possible. Ive never experienced such an a visceral response to just how many volumes of a book series do you have in your bookstore. I only put this score out of three because of all the nostalgic memories and all the wonderful staff members that have helped me in a positive way in the past. But this one customer representative was so aggressive and outright rude that I dont feel like I want to come back with a chance that I might have have to interact with that person again.
Id like to give this Barnes & Noble 4.5 stars. Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful and theres a vast selection of books, magazine, and comics to look through. The only issue is the Starbucks in the store - it was pretty slow in terms of service and only had one person when I went. Thats not really why most people go to Barnes and Noble anyway, so it didnt affect my rating too much.
My kids and I love this place. The staff is always kind, helpful and gives good pointers for my kiddos. They order the books we want that are out of stock and contact us right away when they arrive. The Starbucks inside is a nice treat. We love the extensive Harry Potter selections. Its so fun to browse.
This is one of the best second only to Baltimore inner harbor location.Ample parking, great collection, very friendly and safe neighborhood. Nearby stores include five guys, cheesecake factory. Please take your young children and introduce them to a bookstore and book. Preserve the culture.
Manager super unwilling to work with me on a return where I didn’t have the receipt. /: I’ve bought many books thru this company regardless of the fact that they’re almost double the price of others in order to support but unfortunately that doesn’t matter I guess. Not sure if it’s true for other stores but at least here they do not care! Don’t waste your time or money here. Also ppl don’t wear masks and that’s super scary bc ppl are dying constantly from COVID
This is the MOST AMAZING book store ever. Im always greeted by smiling faces. It makes the consumer most welcomed. What I would suggest is an ample selection of cards. For some reason theres been a decline in variety to select from. Otherwise, my membership continues. I hope to see some changes at some point.Thank you Barnes and Noble!!
I LOVE this location. The layout is how I like it and they have really good customer service. My only semi complaint would be their choice in music, it is always to upbeat and way too loud for a book store. Otherwise, this is my favorite location. Their are two other Barnes and Nobles that are closer to my house but I pass them up and go out of my way just for this store because I like it that much more.
This was the first time me and my boys went to Arboretum location. The two staff that I did ask questions were very helpful, but we were followed by a old man he acted like he was looking at books in the area across from us he also followed us upstairs every step we took He was right behind us . It made me very very mad because Me and my boys were not trying to steal anything and I bought two books so I dont know if we will be going back anytime soon.
What use to be the Metaphysical section is now Self Help which seems very whitewashing and sweeping the section under the rug. The Metaphysical section is almost always the only section I personally care about and this seems like some kind of regressive erasure because of evangelical Karens taking offense to the presence of books people like myself seek out. Also the flickering florescent bulbs gave my companion a headache. #sensoryissuesmatter
Sadly there arent many large bookstores like this one. A great place to browse books of all types. Nothing like picking up a book and flipping through the pages to see if it is the one for you. They also have a great selection of magazines and even some audio and video. Also a cafe where you can get coffee and snacks. Nice place to spend some time browsing.
Visited with my sister to buy birthday books for her. We did find a nice deal on soft cover books (buy two, get third free). After she picked her three and bought books, we had some refreshments at the coffee shop in the store. Very enjoyable afternoon! Nice atmosphere, quiet, and lots of books!
I have been looking for a book for awhile now & this nice gentleman, despite him being busy, stopped what he was doing & helped me find the book. Check out was fast & the cashier super friendly. Overall store was clean & organized with the smell of Starbucks & new books filling the building ❤️.
I have always been pleased with Barnes and noble besides the high prices. I am particular about my literature and only have a few choice authors and subjects that I prefer. My last visit was not good when it comes to staff at the Arboretum location in Austin, Texas. I did find my books, ordered coffee and a cookie, but not before I was told by 2 employees that I cant shop there without a mask. I informed the first that I dont discuss my Healthcare with strangers and that I dont wear masks for my own health reasons. This seemed to have angered them that they couldnt have their way. I was instructed to buy my books and leave which is what I had planned in the first place. David and Romi were very controlling individuals that found it hard to believe that I wouldnt follow their directions due to my own Healthcare practices. I will be contacting corporate about this kind of harassment.
Honestly my favorite bookstore in town, it has a crisp relaxing environment with all the books you could need. If a book you need isnt there, the staff will order it for you and get it to you as soon as possible. Also the Starbucks within is a nice convenience, so overall terrific store for anyone looking for books or just a place to study or read.
Love this location, such a pretty area to have a bookstore - I can buy a few books and go walk around the Arboretum and sit to read on a bench in the trees overlooking nature. Maybe even while sipping a smoothie or eating an ice cream cone. Very relaxing atmosphere, helpful staff, and great layout throughout the two floors.
This used to be our go to place on the weekends. I have two Books, and my husband buys horror and sci-fi books religiously. Even before the pandemic, our shopping habits had changed. The chain chose to rearrange the books so that they were more by author names and not by category. So as a horror fan, or a romance fan, you have to know what you want upfront. There are no more happy finds. Its forced us online and to Amazon. The Nook is more intuitive, but Amazon has a massive collection.
Barnes and Noble is a great place to go, but their prices are definitely high compared to the internet retailer that shall not be named. Its great to have a brick and mortar place to go hang out and see what new books are available. The atmosphere is nice and they have the cafe for coffee and snack needs. They also have a train table in the kids section that my kids enjoy. I usually buy something when I go there because Id like to see it stay in business, but I get most of my books from the library or online.
I admit that I buy most of my books from Amazon these days, but sometimes its nice to browse books by hand. I like to go there with my girlfriend now and then, she likes that there is a Starbucks in store. Not much special about the store, just your typical giant chain bookstore, but clean and organized. I usually leave with a cool book that I wouldnt think to order online.
I dont like how they rearranged the store. Many of the aisles are blocked with displays or sale tables that are dishevelled. I dont understand why the lights are so low either. The lighting in the children area was nice and bright so why not the rest of the store? Reading and good lighting should be obvious. I do like the section of selected best books to read...although it is not clear how these books were selected.
Barnes and Nobles is a great bookstore and has many different genres for any type of reader. They have a kids section for small chapter books and biographies for kids. On the second floor, they have movies galore and many records. I recommend this bookstore to ANYONE because of the sizable amount of books. Whenever I walk out of this store, I always walk out with one or two books.
I went in search of a couple of magazines. A floor worker approached and helped me locate exactly what I was looking for! I ordered a Star Bucks coffee and looked over the sale items. Had a perfectly peaceful visit and appreciated the assistance. I love hanging out at this book store!
I have come to this Barnes & Noble for years, and its never let me down. Their layout has changed many times over the years, but always in a positive way. The staff are super helpful and theyre DOG FRIENDLY! The only downside is the lack of power outlets upstairs. Not the best place to go to get work done, but if you need some downtime and a great book this is your destination.P.S. dogs are not allowed in the cafe area, please keep this in mind!
This is my go to Barnes & Noble! The layout of this store and the categorization of the books keeps me coming back. I also like their table with the Buy 2 get the third free offerings. I have bought 3 books so often and have saved some money. I was surprised to see that all of their stores are unique. Maybe the stores look alike but apparently layout is at the discretion of the staff. Who says the printed word is dying? The stores I visited have all been busy.
Barnes and Nobles had a book 30% off on their website. Thinking this was the in store price as well, I went in to buy the book. When I was checked out, the book rang up as original price. I asked the cashier if they could price match their own website, which had the book 30% off. She stated I could not receive this price in store unless I paid $25 for a membership. If not, she said I could also return the book and then purchase online and chose the pick up in store option, but she would not receive my order for another hour and I would have to go back to pick up at another time. It was not worth the hassle for $10 so I bought it anyway. It does not make sense that they can’t offer you the same price in store that they have online. Not coming here in the future. No use in going to the store if you can’t get the same sales they offer on their website.
Love this place. Its always organized to perfection and the employees are always super helpful and pleasant. I usually go here for calendars around December when its usually really busy. Despite my timing I have never had to wait in a long line due to the efforts of the staff here. These guys know what theyre doing!!
Awesome place, just super lame that they wont price match. Found a copy of a book I was looking for at $40, online for $25. Cant really ignore savings like that - especially living in ATX! Great place to find specials if youre willing to dig, however most copies can be found again online for much cheaper. Would recommend if you just absolutely need a copy of what youre looking for at that exact moment.
Must visit! This Barnes and Noble is two stories, has a full children area, massive cafe, variety of book categories, and its connected to GameStop. If you havent check it out yet, I HIGHLY recommend. They are also open late. So I come here to read and study in the evenings. Its a wonderful and relaxed location to unwind. The cafe also serves fantastic beverages; from coffee/lattes to teas.
Outdated and inefficient web ordering system. Book was 25% cheaper online so I purchased it. They couldn’t process the order for hours even though I was there, book in hand and already paid. I had to leave and come back. I thought they could just pull up the online order and process it. Nope. The system is automatic and by automatic I mean delayed.
This is the perfect book store. They have a section upstairs for you to read in peace. There is also a Starbucks inside of it so you can order a coffee while you read. If you are looking for a specific book, odds are they have it. There is also a GameStop attacked to it so if youre needing some video games and books you dont even have to leave the building to get both! The staff there is also very friendly and very helpful. If you are searching for a book but cant find it there is a computer you can use to help your search.
They have lots of comfy chairs upstairs. They recently reordered the store and moved the fiction to front of the store and moved the bargain books upstairs. My only complaint is the cafe used to make Italian sodas and they ended up taking out the soda machine and stopped making them. I really would like them to bring them back. I do like to get a drink when I get there and I loved being able to get an Italian soda on days where I dont want caffeine. I also hate Starbucks burnt tasting coffee but there is a lot of other things to drink
First, this isnt the worst store of this bookstore chain that Ive been to. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. The inventory is on par. The restrooms are abysmal. It appears that this store buys one ply toilet paper then pays to have an employee sit and peel each roll to produce an even thinner gossamer. This manifests in each pull shredding what you hold in your hands and a half sheet falls to the floor. Unfortunately, I added to already existing the foot-high pile of half sheets. Then, I headed to the Starbucks to continue my journey of disappointment. There were only two plugs in the whole sitting area. Im glad I had a 25-foot electrical extension cord with me. I needed all of it. The staff who took my order were nice enough but after I sat down, they then took to berating the pastries. If an employee is talking bad about their own product, they should at least use their inside voices. This tall barista had some lungs on her. Their conversation just left a bad taste I my mouth. Along with a smug air of the whole place, I dont think Ill be coming back.Update: At the vehement urging of my friend, Im back here for my third visit. The restrooms smell like a homeless person tried to shower in the toilet stall. The power outlets are all occupied. There was still more toilet paper on the floor than on the rolls. The seats that are available were greasy and the tables full of crumbs. On top of that, the internet would not work. We left without attempting to be abused by the staff by attempting to buy anything. Ive removed another star from my review. The one remaining star cannot be removed if I find myself lacking judgement enough to come here again.
I love Barnes & Noble period... But this location in the Arboretum is special in my opinion. The staff is attentive, polite and knowledgeable, they go above and beyond... And I just love the layout at this location...whats better than Books, Coffee and Pastries, Im just saying.😜
The store itself has always been great but this time when I went to the Starbucks inside I was waiting for the barista to finish his conversation for what seemed like forever and the manager didn’t seem to care. I had to signal to him twice to let him know I was there. Then it took over 10 min to get my coffee out when there was no one else there. And to top it off the latté I ordered had expired milk I couldn’t even drink it.
Yes, its a chain store, and I do prefer local shops. But that being said, I still love going here. Their selection of mysteries and sci fi is good, they stock the school subject help books my daughter needs, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. I love the magazine area...they carry my fave high-end decor and craft magazines no one else around here does. Prices are industry-standard, so thats not a plus or minus.I do wish they had more seating, though. You cant sit in the cafe unless you buy something (which I understand), but there are very few other places to sit to look through books to decide which to buy. I usually opt for the floor, but then have to move a bunch of times because I am in the way of where someone needs to look.
Ive never had an issue at this location. With a Starbucks, Gamestop and Movie store included, this B&N is truly a one stop shop for people looking for some entertainment. I recently added their rewards program to my account, providing me with coupons throughout the year. These certainly come in handy during the holidays and the Criterion 50% off sale that rolls around. For those who like to order product ahead of time and pick it up from the store, the process works as advertised. You can opt for email/text notifications to know exactly when your item is ready.
This is a large, very nice Barnes and Noble in the middle of a great shopping center. Its a bit high-end, but otherwise its really nice to stroll inside while shopping for books and magazines. Theres an upstairs, downstairs, toys, games, and a coffee shop. They even gift wrap for free during the holidays! (We tipped, though.)
Barnes and Noble is one of the most wonderful bookstores on the planet. My husband and I were visiting family in Austin and stopped in to pick up some reading material. I am like a child in a candy store when shopping for books, and B&N never disappoints to appeal to my senses in every way. Thanks for being a great place to shop.
I find it strange that they would not match their own websites prices on the store. That being said, the store is always clean and the staff is helpful when you can find them, sometimes your have to go look around for the staff though. This is a great place to bring the kids for story times.
Enjoyed looking around. Picked up strange read. On the back of this book, it says, “The inmate with a mop / held back the inmate / without a mop.” I almost feel like I shouldn’t say anything else about this book, but I will. It has very little to do with inmates; except, as soon as I see that written, I’m thinking that it has everything to do with inmates, and that we’re all always inmates to something, and that the whole world is helping other inmates out, or not. So, maybe that’s exactly what this book can do. Sam and Sheila are boyfriend and girlfriend, sort of. Not a lot happens in this story; in fact, you could read it and say that it’s about nothing. But then you can’t stop thinking about it, so it must be about something. It’s supposed to be semi-autobiographical. And, if you know anything about Lin, you know that he’s constantly being a subtle genius. People understand him. This book reflects an alternative youth culture that tests the mainstream. Sam gets thrown in jail for shoplifting, more than once. He’s vegan. Life is repetitive. Pretty soon you’ll ask yourself what you’ve done today, this week, this year. Now I’m questioning a lot.
I had let some of my Christmas shopping go to the last minute this year and as a New Texan, finally found a “real bookstore” in locating Barnes & Noble at The Arboretum!!!The books were all written by people whom I have met over the years in the Washington, D.C. area.I found everything that I needed in about a half hour and with the assistance of a lovely young woman in Customer Service joined the B&N Club and “checked out” without having to stand in line with my Walker!?!I even managed to buy my Christmas cards at 50% off too!!!
One of the biggest B&Ns in the Austin area, the Arboretum B&N has some of the largest selections of books, records and magazines you might need to find. Complete with a small cafe and adjoining Gamestop you almost dont need to look elsewhere, and what you cant find they are more than happy to order in or offer a digital alternative. Many people have taken to buying their books online nowadays but there is something to be said for going into a real store and picking the brain of the staff to find your next must read. Little known fact is this bookstore used to be a movie theater as one can almost tell from the way the upstairs is positioned looking out on to the first floor. The upstairs of course being the former location of the projection booths and the first floor walls positioned to be the where the screens once were.
The Starbucks there is absolutely soo rude. I ordered a Large water with NO ICE and 10 pumps of raspberry (a personal favorite) and I watched the employee only give me a water FILLED with ice and only 2 pumps of raspberry! Ridiculous and unprofessional! She even gave me a rude look. Fix your employees!
I exclusively come to Barnes & Noble to buy manga. And this location used to be a great place to get it! However, over the past year their manga section has really deteriorated. The volumes are out of order or out of place. There are huge gaps in volumes for popular series. Ive noticed that, even over months, they never restock the missing gaps! Or even restock VOL. 1 of a series. I get it, you have limited room. But you could at least keep the Vol. 1 of a series stocked so people can try something out and buy the rest on the B&N website! But at the same time, its so strange because they have shelves and shelves dedicated to their manga section. And now they all have huge amounts of empty space in them! So its not as if they dont have room for keeping them stocked.Look, long story short, if youre the kind of person that likes going out and getting a particular manga right away; the ablility to go through the copies to pick the most preserved one. Youre better off going to Kinokuniya now. They dont have the deals that B&N does, but youll be way better served there. Or try some of the dedicated manga shopping sites out there nowadays.
Terrible terrible customer service! Just got back from this B&N with my elderly mother (77). She purchased a glass ornament for her sister - $20 - and asked for a box or for it to be wrapped. They only offered a a cheap bag with no handles (!) and when she walked out someone bumped her and with her arthritic hands, it slipped out and fell on the sidewalk (and, yes I wanted to carry it but elders want be independent as possible but I should have insisted I know. Felt so guilty when she cried and became upset at herself) - of course it chipped. It seems to be most of the patrons I saw there were seniors - these folks really need to work on their customer service skills with that demographic as I am sure that it is a large one at this time of year. Every clerk I saw in there was unsmiling, unhelpful and one person was rude to another (elderly) woman who had left her books at the Customer Service Desk with the clerk there at the time and they had disappeared when she came back. The new clerk just said I dont know what happened to them, I cant help you then turned away to answer the phone. I looked across at the customer that was dismissed and we were both appalled by her attitude. Will never go back there or order from them online.
This barnes and noble likes to pretend its a gamestop, which is weird but ok i guess. it has two floors in case you like to look down while you read. i bought a book here to study for a test and i passed! definitely good books. not too many places to sit. i suppose they prefer you buy the books and take them home to read them over sitting and reading them in the store and not taking them home.
This review is for the cafe half of the Arboretum Barns and Noble.First thing I noticed was how dirty the tables and floor was. The barista taking my order was nice, but she had that fake high pitch sales voice. Nothing against her, but I already was not impressed when I walked in, so it annoyed me and made an impresdion.I ordered a tall gingerbread latte with a rice Krispy treat, both were fine. However, I think they cut the treat with a knife used for the sandwiches or something, because I had spices not meant for a Krispy treat on my treat where it was cut.The barista that cut my treat completely ignored me when she brought my order to me at the pick up counter. Was standing right in front of her with my hand out stretched to take my order, and she just went past my hand, put it on the counter, yelled the order and walked off. Didnt look at me or acknowledged that my hand was even there. Was not very polite, it irritated me.The internet sucks here. I am trying to do homework and it takes almost 5 mins for a page to load on my schools website/library. There are hardly any outlets to plug your laptop in, and the corner I chose that actually had an outlet is making my skin crawl with how dirty it is. For such a nice area this barns and noble is in, I am not impressed with the quality. The one outside Ft Hood is way better in customer service, and cafe quality.
Some woman from the cafe said we couldnt have outside food because of cross contamination. She said it was health code, which seemed like bull. Pretty sure our covered sodas from 5 guys werent against any code. Other people had water bottles and bottled sodas and she walked right by them. It was pretty obvious the employees resented her. She approached us in the Im only being nice because I have to be attitude. I study at various B&Ns in the area and Ill never go back to this one.
Good place to find books and souvenirs. it has a coffee shop as well and you can sit at tables and read your magazines. it gets pretty busy in the weekends and shopping season.Wi-fi is the worst thing about this place. Do not rely on it. Even staff complain about it.
Fiction alright, Nonfiction not so much. They are losing a lot to Amazon and it shows. I didnt want to wait on the mail for Amazon, and I was sure Barnes would have it. They had a book close enough to what I was looking for. Trend Trading for dummies instead of Swing trading for dummies.
One of the few multi-floor locations remaining in central Texas. This Barnes and Noble is big and their inventory stays well- stocked. Theres seating in the café as well as a few tables upstairs, however during peak hours they fill up quickly. There are also very few electrical outlets for anyone using a laptop or wanting to charge their phone. Also, while wifi is available, it is very slow. With that said, as long as Im not needing to work online, I consider this one of the best places to work or study. The café has a good selection and the staff are always friendly.

2022-02-25My girlfriend and I had a five-star experience at Barnes and Nobles today. We grabbed a strong coffee and sat in the sitting area. It’s very cozy and comfortable. The best part is a little girl maybe about eight or nine years old came up to me and wanted to give me a hug! Super special. I always enjoy looking at the unique curios and gifts. I could not resist buying the palmistry set. Super cool. I always head straight to the metaphysical section. Which by the way it’s pretty darn good. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask. They’d be happy to order it for you. See you soon!

2022-07-08I enjoy visiting book stores. This one had alot of displays of books that were interesting to see. I didnt have much time to look around bit they had lots of books to choose from. I was in serious pursuit of Ideas and Discovery magazine and I could not find it. I missed a few months and hoped to find it in my travels. I appreciate the vast amount of material they carry here. Good stop.

2022-08-16I love this place. It is two stories full of goodies and they usually have more inventory than the other locations near me. When I search for availability of books to purchase in store, the arboretum usually has it. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Very organized.

2022-05-03Better than Cedar Parks for music volume and style at the least. Still shut off the water fountains with employees wearing masks, hasnt anyone told them covid is gone?Decent selection but like all the rest, no used book section, wish it were physically available in their stores!

2022-07-13We found a wide range of books from Manga to History to Sci-fi fantasy to peak our interests. The board game section was really good. The cafe was well stocked for our lunch time visit.

2022-06-05Was just browsing and stumbled across a bogo 1/2 off sale. Took my books to the counter and they rang up at full price. I explained I picked up the books off the sales table and the employee put in the discount. Excellent customer service!

2019-01-12Is a nice library and is always clean, the personal is really nice and so helpful. They helping me to find the books that I was looking for and also recommended me a few more that was related! Also the fact that they have a Starbucks coffee inside the shop make the experience even better. I would definitely recommend it.
