For over 10 years my pets have received loving care from the fine folks at BVH. I am finding it difficult to communicate just how perfect the service is.Over dozens of visits, I havent had one moment where I could wish for anything better. Every single staff member Ive met has been friendly, courteous, kind and seem to truly love all pets. Much of the same staff remains over many many years, thats such a great sign!Weve done overnight intensive care, surgery, every kind of maintenance, resolved strange symptoms & behaviors - theyre always giving perfect quality service.I suspect theyve figured out how to pamper any pet in there because my corgi used to dislike vet visits and now he seems to like going in & he always leaves happy like hes been relaxing at a spa.One of my favorite things is having a vet that remembers every single thing about my dogs health conditions and truly gives every option & great tips to improve the quality of life. All the vets & techs Ive seen here are so extremely knowledgeable - its obvious to me that theyve got so much more experience than the city vets Ive seen. The pricing is always better as well.I drive across Texas to get my pets here and refuse to go anywhere else for veterinary care.
Weve been taking our dogs and cats here for almost 8 years now. The staff is always friendly and professional. They know us and our pets. Theyve been extremely compassionate when weve had to deal with the hard stuff.I had to put my 17 old golden retriever down a couple years ago. I had them do a farm call, so we could do it at home. The vet was very nice and understanding. I was obviously heart broken, and she told me I could just call and take care of the payment later.
Love love love this vet! Dr. Dawson is AMAZING. My dog Gaia got lethargically sick shortly after my move from Virginia. I brought her in and within a month under Dawson and vet staff care, my pup is in the best health i believe shes ever been in now that theres an accurate diagnosis. She is definitely closely monitored and all I see is improvement. Eventually, I will one by one bring the rest of my pets in to be seen once money starts flowing in. Im forever greatful of the quick efforts and attentiveness they have shown Gaia!!
Excellent veterinarian clinic. Me and my family have been going to them for over 15 years. They have the best prices, never over charging and I absolutely love Dr. Dawson. She is absolutely amazing!!! Definitely my go to vet, I live an hour away and am happy to make the drive to see her. She is knowledgable and very kind, answers any questions or concerns I have and actually cares for my dogs. I received multiple phone calls checking up on my Raya and her puppies, no veterinarian clinic Ive been to has ever done that, and Ive been to many. That really ment a lot to me. It is hard to find a good vet nowadays.Thank you so much again for everything. I would give 10 stars if I could!
Brought my baby here for a check up and found out she has kidney disease. Broke my heart 😔😢😓. They where quick , the customer service was nice during the whole pandemic. Clean, safe and knowledgeable. My baby is now on weekly fluids and pain medicine but the process to recovery is in full effect. I changed her diet “Ollie”all natural delivered to your dog step dog food to fit your dog diet or health concern issues.
My older cat stopped eating and his blood work was good for his age. Dr. Wahl came up with the right treatment for Jack. By the second day he was eating and acting normal. Thank you Dr Wahl and staff!!!Another visit and can truly say the whole staff cares and know their stuff. Chylo, sorry if wrong spelling, has the skill of listening and is extremely knowledgeable. The lady with the cats-eye glasses was fun and helpful. And Dr Wahl is a cat whisperer and then some.
Just changed vets to the Bastrop Vet Hospital. Multiple vets on staff but it appears your animals keep same one. Its not like other ones in town where the vets are on rotation and you get whoever. We actually had our dogs new vet call us on a weekend during the evening to check up on him.
Monday morning began with an emergency with my Cat, Homer. I called his regular veterinary hospital (Crossroads) to see if I could come in ASAP and was told that without an appointment, it could be up to a two hour wait. I hung up and called Bastrop Veterinary Hospital and got an appointment immediately. As soon as I arrived, they took Homer in to be placed on oxygen - before I was even checked in! Despite never having been there before, they made sure to do what was best for my cat first, and handle the clientele details later. We quickly received a diagnosis and although Homer was ultimately put down (an emotionally painful experience that went peacefully for both Homer and myself) I felt we were both well cared for and both treated as if we had been going there for years. I received a really nice personalized card from them about a week afterwards too. Just really nice...great staff, great place.Thank you Bastrop Veterinary Hospital.
We have been taking all of our dogs and cats to Bastrop Vet for many years. We have always had the best experience with all of the doctors! We recently had an emergency with our cat and when I called they said they were booked but that one of the doctors would see us right now even though it was her lunch break!! Baby cat did not make it but they took the absolute best care of him and me! Forever grateful 🙏 🥲
Annie, our coming 11 year old Sheepadoodle dog, was recently seen for her annual checkup. The vet was on the floor with her, petting and talking to her, which allowed Annie to relax. Annie means the world to our family. Making the vet visit as pleasant as possible for her is critically important to us. Staff at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital accomplished that.
I brought my two chihuahuas to their dental cleaning. This is the best veterinary hospital I have experienced! The staff and doctors really cared for them and explained the aftercare thoroughly so that I understood the directions. They called after surgery to check on them too. And it felt good as a dog owner to have everyone make me feel like my dogs where the cutest ever even though not true, lol! The price was the best for dental cleaning that I could find within a 50-mile radius. My wallet was so happy it said I could buy new pair of shoes! What I found surprising, is how clean they look now and how much better my chihuahuas breath is too! They look like puppy teeth, so white! Every dog should have their teeth cleaned and not for just good oral health but leaving decaying teeth intact could create other more serious health issues. Also, they may be in pain and cant tell you. Ask the staff about getting a 20% dental discount during certain months too! Trust me, your fur babies will thank you!
5 star service and staff. Very friendly and understanding with my dogs needs. I will say the Flee/tick medication and heartworm prevention medication was above average from previous vets I have used and recommend getting prescription to get those from an approved pet pharmacy if you are on a budget like me. Otherwise I was very impressed by their care for my dog and attention to detail.
Unfortunately it was a bad day I had to put my dog Buster down of 15 years. However during those great 15 years this was the Veterinary Hospital I took him to. Staff and doctors were always kind and thoughtful and listened to your concerns. They always treated myself and Buster great.
They were the very best my furry baby you made it 18 and a half years mainly because of them and his latter years I have nothing but kudos and blessings them and the one that referred me was Lady Maura of majestic shelters and majestic shelters TLC for the referral and in memory of my little peckpeck only God would have made all these connections all be blessed.
This veterinarian office is so wonderful the people here are very nice and really do care about your animals both big and small!! I have even brought in strays and was able to get them right in, if they are busy they give you the next available appointment. My children love the staff here and so do my four legged ones 🥰 even my new goats have a great time.
In one of the most difficult and heart-tugging experiences, losing my 16 y.o. lab, the staff and Dr. at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital, were exceptionally sensitive, tender and caring. Dr. Sarah Burkhart was reassuring and compassionate, allowing us the time we needed to say goodbye and gain closure. This level of care is not unique to that experience, they are consistently kind and attentive at each visit.
These guys went above and beyond to squeeze my dog in when she ended up with a large wound on her leg. They were clearly busy, but that didn’t stop them from being friendly, professional and giving my dog great care. Thank you guys soo much! I will be back with the rest of my pack.
Let me tell you our experience. We had a very very sick dog/ They got us in right away. Thank you for that. But once we were inside we hadnt even spoke to the so called Doctor and we were already at $200. We were kindly seated in the exam room one hour after we got there. The front desk paged this so called Doctor four times before she answered her page. The assistant took noted for what was wrong with our dog and she explained all of the tests this so called doctor would want run. Still never saw the doctor. Finally she came in and explained our dog was very sick. No kidding. The treatment she suggested would be $1000. Interesting...We asked if we could do this treatment at home and she said yes. So all in all the bill came to $375. Better but how do you go from $1000 to $375? Our dog had Pancreatitis and high Diabetes. Ok we can except that. But why on earth would you prescribe three Diarrhea medications? She didnt have diarrhea because she wasnt eating. She was throwing up blood. Pain pills? Yes she prescribed those. Pill were the size of quarter. Are dog couldnt chew it. And the list goes on. We had a couple more questions for the doctor. Again, she was not around. Not five minutes after she left the room she was doing something else and couldnt be bothered is what we were told. Well Dr. So called Wahl should be proud of herself. Our dog died the next day because of her poor care. She should be ashamed of herself for giving such horrible service to an animal. I hope one day she has the favor returned. She should be fired and her license revoked. We also asked for the test results which we couldnt get because she was off doing something else. Maybe writing a resignation letter ( I can only hope). We were told she had to approve us getting the results. Why? We paid for them. Oh well email them to you. Coming up on two weeks. No email with the results. If you must use this Veterinary service DONT have Dr. Wahl as your doctor. Thanks for killing our dog. Hope your proud of yourself.
The vets and vet techs are great. The clinic manager, Janet, is an absolute nightmare. Shes petty and vindictive. A couple examples:My dog was getting surgery and the vet tech told me that pickup was at 6, but as long as I came by 630 it was fine. I got stuck in traffic and called and told them my eta was 607. Janet told me that if I was after 6 I would be charged an overnight fee and they would not give my dog back until the next day. I arrived at 604. Got my dog back and they charged me a 25 dollar overnight fee anyways. There were still plenty of people on the parking lot. I had asked for the medications to be called into HEB, which I had done before because the meds at this vet are overpriced. I had never been charged to do this. When I picked my dog up, I found that they had charged me 20 dollars to call the meds in. When I asked about it, Janet got snippy and said that I should have been charged every time.I parked in the handicap spot once. Im a disabled veteran and have handicap plates. Janet came outside and snapped at me that I didnt belong in the handicap spots.I missed an appointment once due to an emergency. I paid them the 65 they requested. I called last week to schedule an appointment and was told that the price was double the normal price, and I needed to pay ahead of time. I asked why, and they connected me to Janet, who said that due to me missing so many appointments I needed to pay ahead. I said well Ive missed one and paid for it. I asked for a list of the appointments I apparently missed to be emailed to me and she said she was too busy.Great vets but the clinic manager is the epitome of power tripping mean girl who finds excuses to be petty and cruel.
I made an appointment to have my dogs checked out after going to low cost clinic. The boys are older and are starting to get lumps and bumps. Which the VET assured me is normal and in some cases harmless. One dog have a more serious bump than the other. Each dog received a complete exam which costed 55.00. The Vet called and explained what they found. In each case the Vet explained in detail what would be done. They gave me choices in treatment plan. They also sent out a complete guesstimate of services needed low side high side. I forgot to mention this wS done while I waited in the car. You pull up and call or text you arrived. They che k you in and come get the pet. They write down the complaints and examine your pet. Then call after they see the pet. Bring out the pet and you make payment at time of service. It was easy and hassle free.
We absolutely love the staff here! We have 2 dogs, one of which has a lot of medical needs, and Bastrop Vet Hospital always takes great care of them. They greet us, & our dogs, by name and genuinely care for them like they’re their own. We just moved out of the area and we are sad to leave this vet.
Took 2 beagle newborn puppies for dew claw removal this morning. Not only were they incredibly kind, they went above and beyond and did both front and rear dews. Also so super fast knowing they needed to get back home to momma quick. The best part is cost. I couldn’t believe how fair they were to me and now looks like I may have found me a new vet! Thank you guys so much!
I use to really love this vet, they were my go to vet for all my pets needs for a few years. Now I will look for another vet for my pets. My cat had a medical emergency, (not moving, lethargic, crying in pain, and had a wound on her front arm possibly from a snake bite) and I thought that because my cat is a patient there that they would be able to get her care she desperately needed. Bastrop county has no emergency vet, and because of Covid, other vets in the area are not taking in new patients, plus this was a medical emergency. So I end up having to drive my sick cat over an hour to recieve care, after being on hold with this vet for 20 minutes just to be told they cant see her. Funny thing is, we were able to see this vet before on short notice for a cat UTI, and for a wound on my dogs ear that needed stitches....both not dire emergencies. This vet is just not reliable if your animals need emergency care, and they couldnt even tell me where I could go to be seen closer to town. For as expensive as they are, youd think they would care more about your pets needs.
Bastrop Veterinary Hospital has been great with my aging pup. They always treat her well, are straight forward with me about her needs and my options, and make us feel welcomed and cared for. Prices are reasonable and the environment is comforting. Staff is helpful and the docs are all great.
This place was suggested to me and all though I met there staff in there parking lot to explain my visit..Very professional..informative..and Fast..I remember Mike who came and gift my dog and then The Veterinarian called me ( I apologies first for not remembering her name nor the name of the young lady whom birthday was at this time).. The convenience of being able and allowed to take my dog there in the 5pm hour spoke volumes to me. I had to leave my dog after getting an update of the situation Coco was released the next day. Thank each and everyone of you first your time and service ESPECIALLY DURING THESE TIMES.L.G.Scott
I 100% recommend Bastrop Veterinary Hospital. They treat many of our animals from goats to pigs to dogs and cats and we have received the very best care every time we come in. Dr Burghardt and the staff here are incredibly kind and patient. They are always willing to answer questions and provide great information to help us understand what is going on with our pet. We love being clients here and have never felt so comfortable knowing our animals are being so well cared for.
We brought our dog in for an emergency with no appointment and we were attended to quickly. All the staff were very caring and professional. The lobby was clean and comfortable and well stocked with dog treats as well as people treats. The news we received regarding our dogs situation was not promising but the way Dr. Farber treated us during this difficult time was amazing. We were provided with a very honest prognosis and realistic options that were delivered to us in a very professional and caring way. The service we received was superb. All through out the process we knew what the tests and treatments were going to cost us so there were no surprises at the end other than how reasonable it all was. I highly recommend this facility.
Mindful of the pandemic while also making it a very smooth process and keeping you super informed. I actually feel like the way they do it makes it more streamlined than going in and the vet goes more in depth as if to make up for lack of face to face. Wonderful place!
Dr. Koch and her staff did an outstanding job in helping our cat following a bite and severe abscess that threatened his life. They were very communicative of his condition over the course of a week and very mindful to help keep the expense down in treating him, cost came in well under what we were expecting. Everyone there is very polite and courteous, well only use them from now on with all of our fur babies!
Love they way they take care of my 1st baby. They are always to attentive and responsive. Dr Burkhart has been treating my 9 year old Chiwawa for almost a year for an ongoing trachea collapse. She always listens and is empathetic. Love all the staff! I know they are working under stressful conditions with the curbside and I have had to wait a few times but they are always very polite and professional. Thank you all for all of your hard work!!
The staff are amazing and they helped during the covid pandemic by talking to me over the phone about my kittens eye and offering an over the counter eye gel for my kitten (there was an accident during playing time and the other cat nicked her eye). Today her eye is clear and the swelling went down. Super grateful. 10/10 recommend.
We started taking our critters to BVH a few years ago. One of our dogs has epilepsy, and getting his medications right is a real challenge. Plus there was a worldwide shortage of a critical medication last year - they called every pharmacy in the area, and some not in the area, to find the medication. Dedicated staff! Highly recommended. But call ahead and make an appointment, they are always busy.
My husbands dog was having a medical emergency. Not only did they stay late to help us out but the vet ask us to allow her to take our dog home with her so he could be monitored through the night. In the morning we received a call with an update on his status. I was so impressed with the level of care from everyone at their offices.
I am so happy to have found Bastrop Veterinary Hospital. I take both of my dogs to see Dr. Calhoon and am thrilled with the care she and her staff provide. They are very caring and patient and always take the time to explain everything along the way. I highly recommend them!
We adopted 3 cats now from them and two dogs all of which were very sweet and loving and have been cherished over the time that Ive been sick. We recently lost our first dog who was unlike any dog - my husband who loathes dogs even appreciated him and says hell miss him. Since Ive been sick, its been wonderful and calming to have the cats to keep me company.
We had a emergency this past week with our pitbull, she had been attacked and was beat up pretty badly. I just want to say I am bi polar so this situation was extremely nerve-racking for me, the staff did an amazing job at keeping me calm and getting us checked in very quickly. They were extremely calming and helped sort everything out after taking my dog into surgery which I thought was really considerate since it gave me the chance to calm down. They examined and went to work right away and did an amazing job patching up Widow. They even went ahead and cut off a skin tag that she had grown while they were sewing her up which I thought was also very considerate, they were very clear and brief with aftercare instructions making it easy to understand what steps I have to take after leaving. Overall I am extremely thankful for the staff who helped me when I first arrived and even more so for the operating team who stitched Widow up.
I took my new puppy in for her first appointment and staff was very friendly and patient with me in spite of all my questions!. Wait time was brief and Dr came in almost immediately. Very happy with the vet and how she handled my baby, definitely will return for future check-ups.
The folks at Bastrop Veterinary Hospital are very professional and friendly. They understand your needs almost implicitly and do a great job answering questions. Their experience will be evident in that they will anticipate each step of your animal care and be able to set expectations so you can plan accordingly.
I’ll start out by saying that I don’t write reviews often but this place deserves it. We just moved to the area from Washington state about 3 weeks ago. Our mastiff Peter began limping on his back leg 2 weeks after our arrival. After searching for a new vet for our sweet boy I came across Bastrop Veterinary Hospital. They were able to get me an appointment the same day I called and it was the day before thanksgiving so I was surprised they were able to see us. It’s always a bit nerve-racking to bring Peter to the vet as he is afraid of strangers and acts out on his fear by growling and barking and because of his size it can be quite intimidating to people. I’m always worried about being owner shamed for my dog being a “mean and aggressive bad dog” but this place was amazing and totally understanding that he is just fearful. Our Vet Tech was friendly and cautious with our boy. Staying back from him while in the room and asking if he would be okay with her taking his temperature. She was very informative and I never got the feeling that she thought of my dog as a “bad dog” but that she knew he was just afraid. After the vet tech finished with her questions she went to get the Doctor. Dr Wahl came in and Peter lashed out on her. He wears a muzzle to the vet as it helps to keep him a little more calm and lets people know that he can be difficult. I was surprised to see how young DR. Wahl was but she sure knew her stuff!! After warming up to Peter she began her exam. She concluded that he has Arthritis in his knees and possibly a strained ACL. She was very knowledgeable and was so sweet to my scared boy. She sent us home with an NSAID and some nerve pain medication and told us Peter needs bed rest. She gave us several other recommendations on different supplements that can help him but was not pushy at all on trying to sell us a whole bunch of stuff. Walked out of there after only paying 150$ which I felt was very reasonable. I’m happy I was able to find such an amazing veterinarian clinic after just moving here. We will return every time!! Thank you so much to all the staff at Bastrop Vet Hospital! You guys are fantastic and I will recommend you to anyone needing good affordable care for their fur baby.
Our dear little Lollie died on our way there, but the staff were so gentle and kind. They first checked to see if they could resuscitate her, but when it was not viable they allowed us as much time as we needed. After they gave is multiple options to proceed. Their kindness will forever be held dear in our hearts
I called yo make an appt for my puppys shots. They said I could come in right away. I got there within 30 min. I was quickly checked in. Waited only a few minutes when tech came out to get my pup. A few minutes later he was done and they brought him back to me. Tech and front desk were both friendly and helpful.
We had to bring our cat in for an emergency yesterday morning, and even through huge rainstorms, dealing with CO-VID issues, and what appeared to be an enormous caseload all morning, Dr.Burghardt and staff did an excellent job of helping our cat back from a life threatening situation. Thank you so much, everyone!
My dog used to LOVE going to the vet, when we lived in Austin. We were spoiled with a fantastic and caring vet. However, when we switched to Bastrop Veterinary Hospital, he grew to hate the vet so much, that he pees out of fear. Weve tried them twice, and both times they did not show much care to our dog. Treated him like a patient, and that was it. Our dog is now scarred, and its a nightmare taking him to a vet.On top of that, customer care is really sub par, and there are very long waits for your appointment (over 30-45 minutes). And, even though it doesnt sound like a big deal, the lobby always smells like pee, which makes it not seem very clean. The two factors that are likeable about them: they are close and reasonably priced. But we will not be using them anymore.
I was not impressed with this place. My mom took her cat in who was sick. She walked out an hour later and $400 in cost. They took all these test and gave the cat medication without asking my mom. I went in to discuss the matter, return the $85 in medication and request a refund on half the test. They insisted my mom approved of all the test. They finally came around d and acknowledge they did it without her consent. The cat had a urinary tract infection. I was real disappointed on how they handled it. A skilled doctor would have looked at the cat and with the information provided by the cat owner would have said, lets check his urine and go from there. What this clinic did was run a HIV/AIDS test, blood test, urinary, many test by a technician then the doctor came out told my mom the cat had a urinary tract infection and here is $85 in medication. Sadly, this is how many facilities run these days. We cured the cat with just essential oil application.
We love this vet! We saw our same doctor so we didnt have to explain our dog issues to some one new. Mike, our tech was fantastic! Dr.Schwetmann very knowledgeable and really answered all of our questions and gave WROTE out what we talked about. What doctor does that anymore? Thank you for another visit.
Vet staff was great but the front desk and overall organization was pretty poor. I waited about 45 minutes before being placed in a room (which caused both my dogs quite a bit of stress). The exam was quick and not very personal or informative. It felt like I had to pull information from the staff about basic medications. I was told to ask at the front desk on my way out. After standing there with my already over stressed dogs for another 15 minutes, the receptionist couldnt answer even very basic questions about brands of meds (flea and tick). When I asked if there were any pamphlets to take home I was given a heartworm and Care Credit handout. Overall it was stressful and the service was lacking.
I was referred here by a friend, but was a bit disappointed with our experience. Our 4pm appointment didnt start until close to 4:40, and when we were finally directed into the puppy room we were waiting for, two HUGE dogs came out just before. The staff was friendly, but didnt seem motivated to give a new customer/patient a good first visit.
The people here are amazing! I have a potbelly pig whom I adore, and Dr. Koch waited after closing -when she had another appointment- for me to rush down there to see Pepper pig who had been very sick for a few days. She is over 100lbs and was in my minivan and the Doctor came outside to check her and give her meds and directions of how to help her out once home. Once we got home, Pepper was finally eating and drinking again in the same night! The meds made her feel so much better and my nerves are finally calm. Im so so grateful that they helped my baby, when I couldnt find another vet to see my pig after hours, within the city or within a 2 hour drive. Thank you guys so much!❤❤
I have had only positive experiences here, we have had many expensive pet problems, from our cat getting cancer and amputating her leg (by the way shes still kicking 4 years after) to heartworm issues with our wild dog we rescued. all of the vets we have worked with have been very courteous and knowledgeable. when we found out our middle aged cat had cancer we were expecting to put her down, our vet had just lost her dog to cancer as well so she understood. they took x-rays and her lungs were clean, so amputating the leg with cancer was the best option. our sweet kitty is still up and mobile at 12 with 3 legs.
Super sweet staff, always respectful. Had to put my senior pet down bc of cancer while I was pregnant. They were really respectful and let me know my options without sugar coating it. Which was nice for me, I dont like to beat around the bush. They also allowed me to take her back home with me, and they placed her in a pretty blue angel bag for safe travel to her resting place. (1st Vet hospital that I know who does that). They also carried her to the car for me. A couple of days later I had received a condolences card from the staff. I dropped to my knees bc it was so unexpected and started bawling. Theyre usually busy but they do accept walk-ins but theyre worth the wait.
We recently had to put our dog down, it was a really scary and heartbreaking experiencing for my boyfriend and I but everyone in the facility was caring and supportive. The vet even took a print of his paw for us, even though they dont usually do that anymore. The staff went above and beyond for my little family. 💛
They promised to price match with anybody. They don’t. They refuse to write you a prescription so you can save money, by going to one 800 pet meds or any other veterinary websites. I was overcharged, was charge $365 for a prescription that cost $62.79 on pet meds. Janet, still hasn’t given my refund !! And if you call about anything there first excuses over in the middle of a pandemic please wait!!!
Im sure the quality of the work is ok but they never seem concerned about my dogs well being. It takes days for them to get back to you on a problem. They call and say that they forgot to call you but youre supposed to know when to follow up. No continuity of what vet you get to see. Meh is the feeling I get from staff.
Dr Wahl and the entire staff at Bastrop veterinary hospital are professional, caring and courteous! We came in with our puppy Goomba, whom was pretty sick, and were seen right away. Through the care and attention of this great establishment our pup is making a speedy recovery. Dr Wahl even called the next day to follow up which was MOST appreciated! Cannot say enough good things....THANK YOU!
Had three puppies with the same problem same sickness they took two of them up there to the Veterinary Hospital I got a different diagnosis on each one said parvo and the other one said no parvo but we dont know what it is. healed them all with my home everything Pedialyte.
My experience with these people is that they overbook their patients, and then rush through their examinations. After waiting 30 minutes in the waiting room, and another 15 in the examination room, the vet rushed in, gave my pet a cursory glance, treated my attempts at conversation with condescension, and rushed out again. I thought they told me the booster shot for rattlesnake venom was included in the price of the first shot, and all I would have to do would be to walk in, let the dog get the second shot and leave. When I brought him back, I had to wait 20 minutes for them to fetch him, then they took him off somewhere and left him for another 30 minutes. Two weeks later I got a phone call demanding payment for the booster shot. I explained about being told the price was included in the original shot, but was told that “was never their policy.” I might have been mixed up about the payment and heard wrong, but I resent being all but called a liar and insinuating I had purposely left without paying. I paid what they said I owed them, but I will be looking for another vet who will treat me and my dog with a little more respect and dignity.
I am VERY disappointed in this Veterinary clinic. I brought in my sick 5 year old dog because he was showing signs of Distemper and the first time we took him in they did a CBC on him and sent us home with medications and a bag of fluids, we gave him all the medicines and the recommended fluid amounts each day and still our baby wasnt showing any progress. We went back for a recheck and the Doctor that tended to us was EXTREMELY unprofessional, in the clinic it states please ask about procedures before the doctors perform them on your pet so I was asking the Doctor a lot of questions and she seemed very irritated with me, she even told me that there was nothing she could do for my dog. I went ahead and allowed her to get another CBC on him and before they took my dog to the back the Dr. said I have other patients to attend to. When she said that I knew that I would NO LONGER bring any of my animals to this clinic ever again!!! It breaks my heart to know that this facility cares about bringing in the money more than caring about saving our precious dogs life. We have spent close to $500 on treatments that are not helping our pet and then she tells me that there is nothing she could do for him and that we need to take him to a specialist.
My dog was bitten by a Rattlesnake on November the 2nd. I live in Austin and the Bastrop vet is about 1 hour from me. a good friend of mine from high school is now a vet there, Dr. Kristen Boone, and when I called her after going to an emergency clinic here in Austin that only provided me with pain killers for my dog, she was able to look at pictures I sent her, prescribe me the correct medication for my dog, which in my opinion saved his life, and send the prescriptions to the nearest pharmacy for me to pick up. I then scheduled a follow up appointment to actually drive out to the clinic and I must say i was pretty impressed. The facilities were very clean and modern and every staff member i came in contact with was extremely nice and helpful. My opinion of Dr. Boone may be a little biased since I know her personally but she was fantastic with Shiner, My dog. Thank you Bastrop Veterinary Hospital and Thank you Kristen! you guys rock and will be my primary vet from this point on!
Dr. Schwettman, a huge Thank You for staying late and releasing Diva after hours . You are an amazing person and Vet. Thank you again!Thank you thank you thank you to the entire Bastrop Veterinary Hospital!!!!!Each and every person!!!!!You are the most amazing team I have ever encountered. Not only is every staff member, veterinarian, lab technician & receptionist of upmost professional, all of you elude such personal concern and trust for each pet and pet owner.Youre the reason you are my Veterinary Hospital for 20+ years!!!!! Thank you!
We brought our dog here with a bladder infection they just touched her vagina told is she had a lot of blood in her urine (which we already knew) threw some antibiotics at us and told us to come back after that for bloodwork and the x-rays because they wouldnt be able to see past the infection. Well shes way WORSE now and two different places have seen past the now fatal infection through x-rays, done bloodwork and actually tried to help. I really wish they would have taken the time to help our dog shes now going in for surgery. Be careful with your pets here.Update: our dog wound up dying.
Poor customer service from barn staff, misleading info about pricing for services. I called before driving from Round Rock about pricing for the service I needed. At checkout time, the price was different. The clerk gave me the wrong price over the phone and it was not honored.
They dont care about your pets. We had a wellness exam, heartworm test, and bought a year supply of heartworm pills. Spent almost $300.00; and they rushed us out the door. The vet actually said to us, Are we done here? Then slammed the door, before we could even answer. After I paid, I said thank you, and the cashier just looked at me like I was a zombie. I wouldnt go back to this place if it were free.
This place used to be a good office but now its full of rude receptionist and rude vets. They overly book themselves so that every single time you call you have to be put on hold and they dont care about you, they only care about money, just like most modern vet offices do. You dont matter to them youre just another client. I took my business elsewhere.
I have been going to the Bastrop Vet Hospital on Hwy 95 since they opened in the early 70s. I have had good and great and not-so-great vets taking care of past and current variations on dogdom. Recently, my 10-year old Westie Lilian Pearl (Lily) woke up one morning refusing to eat (one of her major past times), vomiting and diarrhea, and trembling. The clinic got us in at 10:30; they had 9 or 9:30 open as well but we werent quite ready for the adventure. Lily saw Dr. Luker very soon after we arrived. She wasnt running a fever (Llily) but had significant soreness in her abdomen. From blood tests and x-rays the doctor was able to rule out pancreatitis and she showed healthy kidneys and liver. It is probable she had (acute) gastroenteritis (there were large gas bubbles in the x-ray). Because of the high white blood cell count and the low potassium levels the doctor decided it would be good to have her overnight on i.v. antibiotics and fluids. She (Lily) didnt much care for that, but we felt good about it. We called in late afternoon and spoke with Dr. Luker...she (Lily) seemed to be perking up a bit and the doctor wanted to feed her. I drove over and gave her Lilys Panakare for the meal. The next morning we called and learned that she had eaten here evening meal. They said she looked good. Dr. Luker wasnt in but she had briefed Dr. Boone (I think) and we got a full assessment of how she was doing. She said that we could take her home, which we (and Lily) thought was a great idea. She sent her home with a few days of antibiotics. That was on a Wednesday morning. The following day she was acting much more like herself (she was eating) and by Friday she was out in the morning running down to get the paper with her mom Judy. It was bit of a financial blow…due to the urgency, the need for expedited blood tests, the x-rays, the overnight treatment and, of course, the new dog food just for Lily. But, I was very happy with the professionalism of both the doctor and staff. I think Dr. Luker did all the right things and Lily received very good diagnoses and care. It was, needless to say, well worth it. So, after forty-two years, I will continue to take my pups to Bastrop Veterinary Hospital and trust they will get the best care. Because of Dr. Luker we will have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Very friendly staff doctors know what theyre doing and the reasonable on their prices took my dog down to see why he was losing weight so fast and eat like a horse and they told me that he was a diabetic and have to be on insulin very caring doctors and they do make house calls
Please dont take your pets here they hurt our puppy. And they overcharge. They dont care about your family member. Money is there god. Money is there god. Our puppy is hurt forever. And she is so sweet and good and smart. Dont make the mistake we did. Please. Please. Please.

2022-05-28I recently stared taking my two cats here and the staff here are so friendly!! Every single experience has been amazing! I often have to stop by to pick up a medication for one of my pets and even though there seem to be many, many phone-calls and people checking in/out constantly the front desk staff are so sweet/patient despite how busy it gets sometimes! Definitely an amazing office and I do appreciate all the hard work that the staff puts in to make it that way - it does not go unnoticed. :)

2022-06-29Our dog fell off the bed on a Sunday and we called the emergency line. A vet returned the call and met us at the clinic right away. They splinted her, gave her meds and we followed up today. Our dog is healing well. Love the care everyone gives Our dog.

2021-07-28They were great about dealing with my puppy that hasnt been loading yet, and they made sure all of my dogs records were current and they talked to me about what I wanted. Easy to make an appointment and this is my new vet. NOT!Havent been able to communicate with the Vet who did the exam. Called daily for a week! 2 dogs - $400 just for the basics and the pup got a nail trim. I think it is a bit pricey,no discussion about senior discounts...I think were going to check out Lagrange for the next bout.

2022-07-18My dog started showing some extremely concerning symptoms and we were able to have him seen the same afternoon, even as a new patient. His situation was terminal, and I cant stress enough how much everyone handled it with kindness and compassion. I appreciate them all very much and would recommend anyone bring their pets here.

2022-06-25In Cedar Creek area for the summer from NC and one of my dogs came down pretty sick. Dr Burghardt waited for us to get there since it was right at closing. Super caring, thorough and got my dog taken care of in a timely manner. I even wound up taking my other dog there for shots. I’m so very appreciative of the wonderful care my fur babies received.

2022-03-26If I could give them 20 stars I would. My 3 year old Lab was diagnosed with a rare disease. No Breeder I know knew dogs were susceptible to. It was an aggressive disease and within 4 days he was gone. They heroic efforts put fort by the Vets and staff to save Jasper were astounding and the emotions when he passed were genuinely heartwarming. The fought with every too they had and I will forever be greatful.

2022-06-07I cant say enough about how caring and professional the whole staff is. From the way they answer the phone to set up an appointment, to the check out process after the treatment. I would recommend them to anyone looking for vet care. They helped me and my four legged family members at some of our most difficult times. They gave me facts without pressure or guilt to let us make the decision that was best for our family.

2022-06-11I received a call from this office this morning. They informed me I cannot bring my dog for a nail trim on a Saturday. I had an appointment at 9:30. Keep in mind that every appointment I’ve made for the past five years has been on a Saturday unless I’m off work. They said she’s aggressive even though her vet has told them she is not. Her vet wasn’t at the office today for them to ask. She is not aggressive; she simply comes in a nervous wreck because she doesn’t like riding in the car. She’s a pit bull which might have something to do with it even though you would think a vet’s office wouldn’t discriminate against the breed. I’m furious with them!

2022-06-22Our senior Cavalier was struggling with something and we needed a vet. After a number of attempts to be seen, Bastrop Vetinary Hospital gave us a time. Being new to the area we were looking to get established with a vet. What a well run professional operation. We caught a serious issue early. Thank you to Dr Wahl and a very competent staff for the prompt treatment. Connor is doing better already. Seems Connor has a Vet. We’re very pleased.

2022-07-05Its a very sad day when I call the vet because my dog has been hit by a car on Saturday at 10am in the morning but I am told that it is more important for them to leave early than see to my emergency. By the way they are open until noon on Saturday. So on a whole very disappointed with this level of animal care.
