Been here twice and both times the staff have been extremely rude. I donated dog food and girl (child) that took said food has no people skils what so ever. Staff need to learn how to communicate with the public in a manner that isnt rude or hateful. We all are going thru covid and daily drama. No need for the bad attitudes toward people trying to help. Shame on you. From the reviews from others your managment is lacking and needs an overhaul. I pray your Poor animals are treated better than how you treat others.
After researching to rescue a pup for my family, I submitting my application online to this shelter. I received a call the following day. Then two days later I was able to meet the dog I was interested in. Coincidentally I ended up not feeling like there was a connection there, but I did meet a pup that I bonded with immediately. She was in the grass playing with another dog and she caught my eye. There was just something about this dogs demeanor. To make a long story short, we connected at that moment of meeting her face to face and she came home with me the very next day. My whole family love her. She is such a good pup. We are in love with her and she loves her new home. She is a happy girl with a great personality. We are so happy with her and I am happy with my overall experience at Bay Area Pet Adoptions. I know exactly where to go the next time I decide to rescue another pup.
Im very disappointed in this shelters covid restrictions. Im looking to replace a cat that I lost almost a year ago due to old age (its time) and went to the shelter looking for a cat (not a kitten). I was told I had to make application and get approved and set an appointment to view the cat im interested in. 1. Why make an appointment when no one else it there 2. Why make an application when you dont know if you are going to find your new house mate. 3. Why mention a specific animal when every cat dog horse ect has a different personality. $65-$85 is a lot for a cat or a kitten but since this is a no kill shelter I could look past the price, but all the restrictions and limitations.....One of their furry residents possibly missed out on a forever home. I am not mad or angry just frustrated, because if it happened to me, im sure there are others and these pets deserve a chance at a great home.
Im so sad! My partner and 1 found a dog we really liked, the lady helping us told us the dog is on the heartworm treatment and that she would be ready to go home in six weeks. We were so ready to take her home, so we did the application for the adoption and it was all a waiting game. Few weeks have past and we havent heard anything about her, or if they even called the apartment to see if dogs were allowed, which they are. So I gave them a call to see how the dog was doing and the lady tells me shes going home today ... excuse me? . We put in an application, we gave them our phone number, and they said they didnt see any other applicants to adopt this dog..? LIES!!! We never got a call from them saying that the dog was ready to go home. We were so looking forward to having her as part of our family. So that being said, we will not be going to Bay Area Pet Adoption ever again. They failed to give any notice of any kind.
The staff was nice and professional. We are looking for a pet to adopt, and all the pets looked adorable. There were some beautiful and playful dogs, the one in by the desk even though is grumpy was so cute! I really wanted that one, but we need a cat and being a family decision we had to wait. Ill be back for our new pet soon.
Just called to see if I could surrender a black lab retriever mix that I had taken to the vet to get her on a good path to health . The lady on the phone was short once I said stray even told her I had taken her to vet but she clearly did not want to hear about the lab. I would never donate anything to them. I was told Wednesday when I went up there that I could surrender her for a fee of 125.00. but Ive already spent 500.00 getting her on good path of Heath. I understand them needing donations but Ive started her out on a good path. All I can say those are some rude volunteers there. The lady Theresa never emailed either.. So am surrendering her to Galveston county animal shelter. I dont see how they can call themselves animal resue shelter. You will never here from me again. Hope you sleep good at night.still a bad place to surrender a stray but they are quick to take donations of food, blankets or anything else they might need.
Disappointed with the rude phone call stating that I was not approved for adoption because the dog would be an outside dog. I very clearly stated that he would be inside/outside dog. The dogs are outside all day at this clinic with no A/C. I dont appreciate the receptionist judging me for not getting my puppy that I already have neutered. I understand there is a population issue, I however have no experience with breeding and those were not my intentions. I felt very judged. I have a beautiful home with a fantastic fenced in yard and plenty of entertainment for a dog and most importantly a loving family with children who would of loved to provide a great life for this pet. Now I know to tell them just what they want to hear in order to adopt. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the pet being an inside/ outside dog. My yard has plenty of shade and water and not to mention a doggy door. Poor judgement on bay area adoptions. I hope the best for Rico.
I submitted an application for a very sweet dog and was told there would be a wait of a few days while they confirmed my information and that Id be able to provide the care and kind of home shed require, (which I am completely in favor of). However, before I even left that day after having turned in the app, I spoke a little further with their staff. Something about them just rubbed me the wrong way. They gave me the distinct impression that they were doing me a favor considering me. There were several posters asking for donations for their facility, but they didnt give me the impression that were all that eager to place the animals in their care, even in potentially ideal homes. Then, the next day, I came across some of the same dogs Id see at the shelter at an adoption event at the PetSmart in League City. The staff/volunteers really didnt even want folks interacting with the animals the way most other groups do that hold adoption events at these places. Once again, it seemed more than ever that they were of the belief that they were somehow doing you some kind of favor. Im calling this morning to have my application pulled and will be looking elsewhere. There are so many shelters and rescue groups out there, and so many wonderful animals in need of good homes. I want to adopt an animal who NEEDS me. I will also try to speak with their director to let him/her know of my observations and why I will be looking some place else.
My family has adopted 3 dogs from this shelter, the last one very recently, & we have been very happy with them & the process. Adopting a shelter animal is the way to go. The staff is caring & seems genuinely concerned about the welfare of the pets. The place could use some paint...but then again...it is a non-profit no-kill shelter. Yes...there is an adoption process...& its one that I gladly went through (& would do again) to make sure all my pets were compatible together & with us & our lifestyle. I know they pull a lot of their pets from the county high kill shelter...so that makes me happy that they are saving lives. (I know my most recent fur-face was rescued from the high kill county shelter!) The animals are well cared for & I know staff & volunteers do a lot of one-on-one with them. Kudos to BAPA for the high standards in helping to ensure their pets go into the right homes! I love my shelter dogs!
Found my Wonderful pets. Through Adoption areas in the Galveston County and Brazoria County and Harris County have a nice farm now. The squirrels and the owls were blown out of trees in storms on our property. The owl is free living close by and still visits. The squirrels are 6 months old and will be let loose here on our farm on May 1st, 2019Loved every minute. Giving animals from rescued situations are the best animals ever. I can hold my turkey, drive the Jeep with My Goose hanging his head out enjoying the breeze. My Giant Mastiff Burley is the greatest. Full of love and devotion. My tiny chihuahua runs the house. My rabbits are named after movie stars. What a meaningful life, Adoption and Rescue of Any Animal Centers, can create for you as they have me.
We (husband and I) recently adopted two beautiful brother and sister, very healthy, gray tabby cats from Bay Area Pet Adoptions. I first located them on their adoption website, which was very well done with clear pictures of each animal and included details about each ones personality. Later, when we went to see the kitties for the first time we were impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facilities. They were very helpful and it came through loud and clear that all the workers cared for the animals as if they were their own and worked hard to ensure they get placed in a compatible and suitable forever home. Thanks BAPA, for keeping your standards high and bringing us our new pets for life. Linda and Martin Smith
I make a good amount of money, have a long history of happy pets, and came here to adopt a cat. Three days later I was turned down because I have a female dog that isnt fixed. The dog is 7, sterile, and we once lost a female due to infection caused by spay surgery. This place wont trust me with an inside cat until I have my outside dog fixed? Are they insane? Im surprised they didnt come over to interview my house plants first. Adopt elsewhere because these people dont want to part with any pets.Update: Check out this places reviews on Yahoo. Theyre even worse than these. I guess this place has no problem with bad PR, is not associated with the SPCA, and are a KILL shelter.
We are extremely thankful and elated with our feline, Phoebe! The shelter took care of her very well, no concerns during her first vet visit with us. The shelter is also very responsible in choosing appropriate homes, and are particular to whom they approve. They had all of Phoebes paper work in order, and knew what they were doing. If youre thinking of applying, there has to be little room for adverse situations depending on the pet, as these beautiful animals have endured enough! They just need a safe, loving home with responsible parents! Thanks for completing our family!!! :-)-LLopez family.
The staff is very rude and disrespectful and they really helpfullI will never be going back here dont bring ur animaanimals to this shelter and why would get a family hope up on bring home two beautiful dogs and then call them later that afternoon to let them know someone else got the two dogs u and family were looking at I have never heard of and apodton place doing do thatAnd not only that we ate telling that we dont want to split the two dogs up that were looking at we want both dogs but u dont care about that u want a 140.00 each for both dogs that didnt matter to that we were willing to apodton both at the same time no you want to make sure you get ur money for them never mind then fact they would have a good home and a family that would themThat money is what yall are about . As I was sitting the felling out the paperwork a lady came in and ask to talk to ur manager in private she didnt want her benness know ur manager was very disrespectful to her.The worst pet adoption shelter ever
I am grateful for the hard work and intense screening of this No-Kill shelter here in Galveston County. It is hard to turn people away, but I would rather them be strict, than careless to precious pets who have already had a hard life. I donate to them BECAUSE I know the animals are taken care of and they are selective of who they place pets with. Thanks for loving pets too.
My experience with them was horrific and shocking! Yes, there is a tall red-haired lady who seems to be in a management position. I had two of my indoor fur babies died of cancer over the years. My home is not complete without my indoor cats! I found two beautiful kittens, a brother and sister at the BAPA. The boy was a polydactyl, just like my Chloe who was euthanized as cancer ran rampant. I fell deeply in love with them! I took my application home and brought it back to them. I wished that I had made a copy as I specifically stated on the application that I had two outdoor dogs in our large backyard, who are crated in our heated garage during bad weather and never allowed in the house. The receptionist (extremely rude!) mentioned that the manager (the tall red-haired lady) was partial to the ten kittens there. Suddenly the red-haired woman came in, ignoring me, and asked what kittens I was adopting. She whispered something in the receptionists ear. They both began to frown and look at me with such disdain! The tall woman took my application in a back room. Came out ten minutes later and immediately said Application DENIED! I was shocked and asked why. Both she and the receptionist loudly said: Because you LIED! What??? The red-head said, You didnt say you had two dogs on the property! I asked to see my application again because I knew I had stated that! She refused and again she and the receptionist became so angry and rude, almost in tandem, yelling at me that I was a LIAR and I was never to return to the shelter!!! No problem, I told them! I wont deal with this type of abuse and favoritism. I left heartbroken, unfoundedly shamed, angry and crying. These people are not affiliated with the ASPCA and privately-owned. If there were a negative four stars, I would happy to give them that! I pray for the animals there. Luckily, our sweet family vet showed us two older brother and sister beautiful young cats - brother, a handsome Birman mix, Milo and sister Moon, a gorgeous black longhair girl! He felt so badly for us and actually gave them to us, knowing how well we take care of our animals. I will NEVER SUGGEST BAY AREA PET ADOPTIONS!
I adopted a sweet hearted blue heeler mix from Bay Area Pet Adoptions and found them to be very professional and thorough in their adoption process. They require an introduction of each person in the prospective home and the dog to be adopted. They also require a meet and greet session with all the other dogs in the prospective home. It was obvious to me that the staff care very much about the dogs in their care. They are very conscientious and have the dogs welfare as their priority. The dogs in their care are healthy and go through training so that their adoptive families have a head start with their new pet. They also offer further training on site after adoption.
This has to be the worst adoption system i have ever come across in my life. It is a 2 day adoption process and it is very hard. There are about 30 or 40 cats in the shelter that have not been adopted. There are so many unneeded harsh rules to adopt on pet. Just because we have a dog door for out two dogs we were not able to adopt a white fluffy kitten named Venus. My father put on the adoption papers that it would be in inside/outside cat, but that was not good enough for us to be able to adopt the kitten. They have loads of cats and they wonder why they cant get rid of them, its because they have rules that are way too harsh. I am adopted and my parents say that it was easier to adopt me then this little kitten in need of a hope. Guess they were not to worried about me going through a doggy door when i was a toddler, thats why they must have let my family adopt me. But hey! Oh well! This is very said and heart breaking for the little kittens, all i wanted to do was give one of them a good home. My parents were approved of adopting me...BUT NOT A CAT!!!!!! Thats so funny omg. Thats pretty sad. We adopted a sheep dog, we adopted a pom named Hank, but we cant get a cat?!?!?!? Would you like to send a social worker over to my house to check out our family to make sure we can handle a cat?!?!?!?!? Like really!??!?!!? Honestly!!!!!!
We adopted our dog from this facility. This is a no kill shelter that actually even pulls local dogs from other area kill shelters. They require pre-approval before you can take an animal home to ensure they are getting a good match. I think this is a good thing to prevent animals from going to homes that may not be a good fit and cause further stress on the animal that would likely go back to a shelter. They are kind and need funding to improve the facility that is quite basic. Especially considering the most recent disaster. If you cannot afford to return a dog and pay for another since it wasnt a good fit, then maybe you shouldnt have a dog.
If a dog doesnt work out for your family no refunds or anything. They charge again for the same animal. Scam and wouldnt recommend they wouldnt know anything about an animals character. Let us adopt a dog that shouldnt be with children and then showed high aggression and peed on her as if she was a fire hydrant. Wouldnt recommend this shelter on the basis of how do you really know an animal will work for your family and then them not giving a refund and being rude about it. There happy to take your money and the processing is a joke so for the people who did get rejected applications it probably was a blessing. Keep the 100 and hope that helps your Conscience
So... This is not my, but rather someone I knows experience here. So, their experience prompts the question for me... is it better to have a homeless cat live in a cage, or be in a long-term home with a long-term married couple, one of whom is a Masters professional, and the other whom is in the public safety/service sector? Because, yeah... it seems odd that cage is preferable to indoor/outdoor cat culture in this lovely home.
I absolutely do not understand this place, we found a dog we love and applied to get him and got denied? I make over 100,00 a year and was told that they didnt think I could adequetly provide for the pet??? I am a huge pet person and am disgusted that a homeless animal shelter would deny me and also the secretary is the rudest person we have delt with. We were going to pay the 125 dollars to get the pet and still nothing so we went to another shelter and adopted a pet no problem for 30 dollars and he is doing great! I wish I could give this place negative stars, it is just absolutely horrible.
Thoroughly disgusted! I cant believe the process you have to go through. We were turned down because the dog we wanted showed aggression towards cats, and I have one. The dog is only two years old, and has not been socialized with cats. I told them that my cat would hide until they got to know each other. They said they didnt want anything to happen.Wouldnt it be me taking the chance with my cat? If I was at all worried about the dog hurting my cat I wouldnt be posting. All young dogs need is socialization with cats in a home environment. It just seems to me that the shelter really doesnt want to place animals in loving homes unless the homes are pet free.
I make a lot of money and had bought all that I had needed to prepare to a new addition to our family- our first animal at that. We were denied because: a) we didnt have vet history, and b) someone else came in and wanted both the dog we wanted and his brother whom my sister was wanting to adopt as well and was denied because of the same reason. We fell in love with the little terrier mix and wanted him pretty bad. How could we get denied for no vet history when weve had no pets? And just because someone wanted both means they get first priority? I dont know about racist, but if youre a twenty-something, under 25, dont go there. Theyll pretty much write you off because youre too young and obviously cant afford to take care of a dog. The two stars is only because they are a no kill shelter.
Poor adoption policies. I have been a cat owner my entire life. I have volunteered at shelters in the past and we love our cats like children (I even have a youtube page devoted to them. ha!). We were denied adoption for LIFE from Bay Area Pets. Heres why: Last year, we took in a feral mother cat and her two kittens. Several months later, we moved from our home in Clear Lake to Tuscan Lakes. During the move we put the cats in the master bdrm with a SIGH on the door that said Do not ENTER. The movers didnt speak English, so they opened the door. Two of the cats bolted out and then out the front door. I looked for them for months, I put signs Everywhere at every intersection, mail box, I paid for flyers to go out to shelters, and animal hospitals, etc. They were never found. The remaining cat (Glitter) lived happily with us until 2 weeks ago when my child opened the front door to let in a friend. Glitter (like all cats) tried to get out, and she was successful. I was unaware she had gotten out. A neighbor called me later and said our cat was hit by a car, I disregarded her comment as our cat was an indoor cat. she insisted it was Glitter. My husband and I quickly went out and discovered it was her. We collected her body, and even had a little burial service so the kids to say good-bye to their little friend. We decided we wanted to rescue 2 cats a few weeks later. We drove to many shelters (from N. Shephard up in the north west part of Houston to Galveston, looking the 2 perfect cats for our home). We finally found 2 perfect cats that would fit with our family (3 children). We had THREE visits to these cats so I could watch them interact with my children to make sure they were a perfect match. THEY WERE PERFECT! After all the long drives and searching, and phone calls, we finally found them!!Bay Area DENIED us adoption of these 2 cats because of the death of Glitter and the escape of the feral mother and other kitty. I was told our house was HIGH RISK and that we dont want our kitties to be killed by a car or get out and run away like your other cats. She absolutely didnt care about the circumstance. She said no and that the DENIAL is PERMENANT!!! Lets put this into perspective: My cats treated like royalty in every sense of the word. They even have their our room upstairs where they can get away when needed. Our family is incomplete without kitties. I work at home, and so my cats have nearly constant attention and affection, not to mention plenty of IAMs and the occasional treat. I just cant believe Bay Area Pet Adoptions would rather KEEP THE CATS IN A SHELTER than also our family to give them a good home, saying that our house is HIGH RISK to ANIMALS.My kids played with those 2 perfect cats 3 times and were in love with them. Our hearts are so heavy with disappointment.
This is a no kill shelter, and they also supply food to the public that cannot afford to buy food, but takes good care of their pets, and has them all spade and and fixed so they cannot keep having babies that no one can care for...They rely heavily on the publics food donations. Please give food if you can, cat and dog food is accepted.
The woman at the front desk, kris, was an absolute train wreck. She was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. When my application was denied for minor discrepancies, she proceeded to demean me while calling me a liar, she then berated me around the office while I could hear her and other staff members laughing out loud. When I asked to speak to the manager, she had conveniently “stepped outside”, when I told her I could wait she said that the manager would not care to talk to me. This is all while she was literally screaming at me on the phone. I’m not sure where everyone else reading this review works, but I would be fired immediately if I ever spoke to anyone like Kris spoke to me. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SHELTER!
Seems this is just a high end hoarding operation. I have had companion cats for most of my 60 years and the one I lost recently was over 10 years old. However, I am not good enough to adopt from this organization. Seems they have no intention of adopting pets which are sponsored - why should they?
DONT GO HERE!!!They rejected us 4 times and its proble because we live in a rv but that wouldnt make a differece because we looked for small dogs.I have seen 4 dogs i fell in love with but they said no. It hurts to see your future be taken away from you 4 times! Find somewhere else.Leagcity or some other place but just dont come here.
If I could leave zero stars I would they discriminate against service animals I brought my service animal and the lady was mouthy and told us can’t you read the sign. I have never been treated so horrible by anyone. I will be sure to blast this place all over social media and possibly the media and possibly the news. I am a disabled veteran and that is no way to treat people. Avoid this place, animals looked unhealthy and place riddled of dog piss
Not pleased at all put an application in for a dog and afterwards they gave it to someone else. And lied about it saying they were there first. Which as i said was a lie. was there first thing that morning even shows on the sign in book. Very upset. Even went and spent alot of money for items for the dog. Did not call us to tell that they were doing so. Very upset.

2022-04-10My family went here to look for another cat after ours passed away. The staff is very friendly and helpful in finding the perfect animal for your household. Make sure you make an appointment before visiting so you know if the animal youre looking at is still available. They will notify you if the animal you are considering has been adopted already.

2022-02-15They didnt seem to care if the dogs adopted out or not. Takes days, they said. Woman stated that no dog could be adopted unless kept in the house. I wanted a big dog, not a house dog. I have a dog door, but my big dogs dont want to be inside. Would have adopted the dog I went to see, but such a negative experience and bad vibes from the staff, I got another dog from a private individual who was glad to get her a new home.

2020-02-15Best cat ever!Adopted our first cat VIOLET here a few days ago, best experience ever. The stuff are nice and the process is thoughtful and well organized. They tell you what personality each cat is so that you can find your best match!Violet is here for a few days and everything is perfect. She eats well, drinks well, and knows how to use litter box. Never bite or scrach.Make sure you go there in person and stay with the little ones for sometime.

2018-04-28We visited this shelter a couple of times. The first time, we were releasing a puppy that had been displaced during the hurricane flooding. He wasnt our puppy but the owner just couldnt bear to take him, so we did it for her. They were so kind to us.The second time I visited was three months after my dog died. I needed puppy energy. We told them why we were there and they brought two dogs in to us to play with: Monty and Sally. I loved them both. Im not ready for a dog right now.But they were so kind to me. They talked to me and listened to me talk about my dog Jake who had died. They told me I could come play with the puppies any time. The facility is spotlessly clean. The dogs get to play in the yards. They get fed twice daily. The kennels are open to fresh air but enclosed and covered from the elements. The dogs all seem happy and when they come inside, they look to the people in there with happy eyes and waggy tails. This is currently the only no kill shelter in Galveston County. Wheelchair access is excellent. There are sidewalks throughout the facility and concrete for the kennels.Adopt, dont shop. Shelters have amazing dogs who need love! Some are already potty trained! Get a buddy today!

2019-12-20The staff is caring and thoughtful staff. The application process was thorough but easy. They communicated with our Vet and he was up to date on all his shots and tests. Theyre a no kill shelter and deserve your help... donations of food, supplies are appreciated. We had a coupla collars and a harness leftover so we donated the lot! ... Im adding some of his glamor shots from their website...we changed his name to Toby... Short for Marvelous Toby! Its a great place and the staff makes it better.

2017-02-20Very disappointing I was in search of a furry friend and didnt find any. They had a lot of donations but yet still dont put them out to good use for the animals. I went when it was cloudy and looking like it my rain yet a dog was outside in the cold with nothing but a little bed and no shelter to keep warm. I havr have pictures.... so sad they should provide shelter instead of the complete opposite.

2022-06-17Horrible receptionist with nasty attitude, needs to retake customer service at least twice. How about leaving your issues at the door and put effort into finding homes for these babies. Watch how you speak to others!!!

2019-03-19I had to give up my 2 year old cat George today and was relieved at how friendly the staff is here. I know my bud is in good hands until he finds a new home. If youre looking for the sweetest cat ever who loves to play, is used to being around other cats and kids, and loves to sleep in your bed, you cant go wrong with George.

2021-10-16Super helpful and friendly staff. They took in my fur babies because I am getting evicted. I have gone to them for assistance with dog food in the past as well. A great place to adopt your new baby.

2020-10-04This is the perfect place to adopt a pet. The staff is very friendly and all the pets are well cared for. This is a no-kill shelter and its obvious they care about these babies going to loving homes. I am so happy I went there for adoption. I looked at the photos, completed an application, got an appointment and went to meet my new pet today. We have rescued each other! So happy! Thank you so much!!!!!
