This was my 2nd visit because my 1st was very good. On my 1st I tried the basic chick parm. It was very good not a frozen Pattie. served with some rolls and oil plus salad. So I went back and was more adventurous. I tried the steak marsala. Which was a marinated 16oz ribeye smothered in a rich marsala sauce full of mushrooms. Served on top on a thin pasta( like angel hair). Delicious and tender. Ill be back and bring some friends!
Our favorite place to gather with neighbors, or by ourselves for a quiet dinner. The food is fabulous, the portions are very generous, and the waitstaff is friendly and attentive. We typically take 1/2 home for another complete meal. My fave is the Tortellini Michelangelo and salad with house dressing. We have yet to be disappointed with anything we’ve ordered.
Wife and I decided to give this place another go, since we actually enjoyed ourselves the first time.First time we went I had the chicken Florentine (really good, just really heavy) and my wife had some sort of eggplant rolls. Both were really good.As of our latest visit, not so much.Firstly, the fountain drinks aren’t working so they pour the drinks from bottles that they have stashed away. I can live with this, as sometimes the drink fountains don’t get cleaned that often.Secondly, last time we visited the bread came with oil to dip it in. Another table was told that they aren’t doing that anymore, but not 15 minutes later - another table was having their bread delivered with it.Thirdly, I ordered the cheese ravioli and my wife ordered chicken piccata. The cheese ravioli is literally the same thing you get at H-E-B. I’m not making this up, I watched them cut the bag open and proceed to cook it. My wife couldn’t finish her chicken piccata because it was so salty.Needless to say, we did not enjoy our visit this time. And not sure we will go back. I’m extremely disappointed because the first time we went, it was so good and we had been telling all of our friends.
Britni (my server) was awesome in helping the restaurant overcome a couple of hurdles (coke syrup dispenser not working) and no olive oil/garlic/basil dip (initially). The fresh garlic knots and my lasagne were va bene (very good)!Without the hurdles this would have been a 5-star review.
I had the salmon special, and it was perfectly adequate if a little dry. A heavy hand with the sun dried tomatoes, but whatever. Problem was with the other dishes at the table. One person got the chicken Bella Sera -- Overcooked pasta. Tasteless, previously-frozen chicken pieces. Not very much pasta wth the chicken. Really mediocre soup that was weirdly sweet and tasted like Progresso.Chicken Alfredo, same deal with frozen, tasteless chicken slices. Sauce was a gravy, not very flavourful.Anther red flag was seeing how often they use the microwaves in their kitchen...which probably goes along with the terrible chicken. They dont have a liquor license yet, so you can get a free glass of wine with your dinner. Dont. Im really not picky, but the cabernet was below Franzia-tier. I understand getting what you pay for, but that was ridiculous. Just pour a normal sized glass of mediocre table wine instead of a huge glass of whatever that was.Oh, almost forgot, we were given some dirty side plates, which was not great. We wont be going back unless they make a lot of changes. Some people like that they have such a big menu, but with only two kitchen staff (when we were there), I wish they would cut 2/3rds of the menu and focus on just doing a few things well.Bottom line, if you go here, get the chef special as it seems like the other dishes have no care or thought put into them. Or get lasagna, cant go wrong with a casserole!
Love love love! Everything was awesome, generous portions, very flavorful and the ingredients fresh. Only one waitress working but she was on top of it. You get what you pay for ...this isn’t some Olive Garden it’s authentic. Eat local not chain ....these folks are working hard to provide the best while keeping everyone safe. We will be back in the near future!
Food was relatively bland and extremely overpriced. The chicken soup is about on par with canned soup from the store and not up to pr for a restaurant. The chicken bella sera sounded good in theory but was flavorless and poorly executed. The chicken was extremely soft and spongy akin to microwaved frozen chicken and the pasta was overcooked and mushy. I had heard good reviews of this place but it was very disappointing.
Never really knew about this place but our other Italian place was closed so we thought we would give it a try and we now have a new restaurant to add to our rotation. The Bella Sera chicken was delightful and my toddler LOVED the spaghetti and meat sauce. The bread they brought out before the meal was the best Ive had in a long time, sweet tea was on point, the salad was fresh, the Italian dressing was amazing, the service was top notch, overall a wonderful experience!!!! Ill be back (terminator voice)
The portions were very generous. The bread basket was tasty. I ordered the linguine with mushrooms. The free glass of cab just enhanced my meal. Yes, I went with a red instead of a white because thats my preference. Ill be a regular customer because the service and interaction with the wait staff was fun!
Disappointed in my recent visit. Bruschetta was awful- not crispy and very bland. Tomatoes and other veggies just piled on soft slices of bread. The chicken soup is better than the other two. The other two soups are nearly the same with the pasta e fagioli having a creamier base. My shrimp Cesar was definitely not worth $18.99- it was nearly wilted as it was placed in a bag with soup, and there was no Cesar dressing. My 5 yr old enjoyed his fettuccine Alfredo but I thought it was bland. Not sure why everyone in my neighborhood raves about this place, but I will not likely go back. The quality and authenticity (or lack of authenticity) is really not worth the money.
We had the calimari. Not fresh but was okay. I had the chicken marsala. Huge portions good flavor chicken was a tad over cooked. Wife had the chicken Alfredo. She liked it. Drowning in sauce. Huge portion as well. The garlic knots were great. Bill was $50.waiter was friendly. A bit overwhelmed. Short staffed. Full house when we left. We will try again later.
What a great experience my family had at Bella Sera! Our young waitress greeted us immediately with a smile and was very helpful in giving information about the various dishes. She was very generous with the delicious hot bread and kept our basket full all night. Our dishes were piled high and served piping hot... and tasted fantastic. We look forward to returning soon.
I had eaten at Bella Sera in Boerne, and had what I would describe as a 3-star experience. The food I would describe as adequate, and the service deserved 1-star. We had some very young servers that spent a lot of time hanging out and talking instead of attending tables. Tonight we ate at Bella Sera in Spring Branch, and wow, some of the best Italian food I have ever eaten! My wife had chicken piccata and I ordered fettuccine carbonara, both dishes had excellent flavor. We received outstanding service as well. Great little Italian restaurant. In fact I will give the Boerne location another try because of tonight’s experience.
We visited for lunch and the lunch prices were very nice! I had the sampler plate and was surprised that I couldnt tell where one item ended and one began, but it all tasted great. :) The food was yummy. The calamari is amazing, as is the bread. We are long time addicts of their Marble Falls location, so we miss the warm ambiance. Maybe soon? I felt like I was eating in a cafeteria or in the kitchen and it detracted from the experience significantly. But, I am sooooo glad you guys are here! Welcome, welcome!
The food had significant lack of flavor. The texture of the sauces were nearly slimy and completely off. The textures of the meats were strange and tasted bad. Overall, the foods taste, texture, and presentation were very bad and both of us had upset stomachs after. Would not reccommend
My husband and I decided to try Bella Sera. Everything was delicious! The bread was hot and soft. My husband kept commenting on how good his soup was and I enjoyed my salad with the tomato basil dressing. Our spaghetti and meatballs and eggplant parmigiana were delicious! Our waiter was attentive, professional and prompt. Well be back!
We liked it very much a week ago. Dishes were delicious and the serves very nice and friendly. However one should not forget that most of those little Italian shops are owned and runned by people from the Balkan, yugoslaves and Albeniers. The food is all preprosessed and all what is done in the kitchen is warm it up and on your plate it goes. Two days ago we went back and nothing was right. Calamaris over fried, chicken very dry, overcooked. What a pitty. The chef needs to control what he puts out.
I usually dont write bad reviews. I highly suggest you do not eat here. We spent $60 on two adult meals and one kid meal. Over priced, which would be okay but the food was just awful. We ended up just throwing it away. The chicken on the chicken alfredo was hard, dry and unseasoned. I have been to the locations in Marble Falls and Boerne and had a totally different experience.
I have no clue what was wrong with the bad reviewers. My wife and I have been there 3 times. The menu is normal for an Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is great. The food cost is average and enough for an extra meal at home after taking the leftovers. The bread is very good. The service is fine. Maybe those reviewers were just having bad days.
Very nice, small, cozy, family run restaurant. Good Italian food and reasonably priced. Variety of the menu is excellent. Service is outstanding and they work hard to make sure your have a superb dining encounter. Highly recommend it! Give it a visit and enjoy a free glass of Italian wine they offer!
Run dont walk to this little gem. I have no clue how they make $ on their lunches. We had cheese rav with red sauce (comes w/ either soup or salad) and a meat strombolli. Had to take 1/2 the strombolli home it was so huge. Our waiter Agon was zooming since he was the only waiter, but he was amazing and welcoming. All this for a whopping $20. AMAZING!@!!!! Have now been to this location and also Boerne and have ZERO complaints. OH and the bread and olive oil dipping....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
We were looking for a good local Italian restaurant but Bella Sera was a big disappointment. The food was mediocre at best. I had the veil Marsala. The sauce smelled like it was made primarily with bullion. The parmigiana cheese was in a shaker on the table, not grated fresh by the wait staff. Plus the food was rather expensive. The service was good but not enough to get me to return.
Went for lunch. The eggplant parmesan was worse than any I could of gotten from the frozen section of HEB. the service was excellent, the salad was good, the bread was good. But why they had to screw up the eggplant is beyond my understanding. It was swamped in a mediocre mariana sauce, soggy, and tasteless. And I have grown up in Sicilian kitchens..no excuse for this one. I sent it back. And I rarely ever send food back.
The food here is average. I have a strong suspicion that it is pre-cooked by a food service company. we had the chicken primavera and lasagna as the main courses with the pasta fagioli to start. The food came out fast and hot but that’s about all there was to remark about it.On the other hand, the wait staff was top notch. Our server Toni was very attentive and you could tell he was professional and took pride in his work. He is the reason we would come back (being able to bring a nice bottle of wine helps too).
I had high hopes for Bella, and my expectations were destroyed. The wife got the chicken alfredo, and the chicken tasted like either it was pre-cooked hours earlier or from frozen no color, no flavor. I got the chicken soup, and it also had the same blah chicken. Their meatballs are golf ball size and barely over room temperature—three golf ball meatballs for $5.99 with more sauce than balls. Their three Italian sausages are not three full links but instead three pieces of sausage at best 6 inches if you add them all together. Honest, our experience was so very underwhelming.
We decided to give this place a shot. Be happier the calamari was so lightly breaded it was amazing the marinara was phenomenal! Probably looks like Im writing a review for a friend, but we honestly dont know anyone and cant wait to go back! I had the Chicken Verona it was very good, and my wife had something else, cant remember what but she was thrilled. The table next to us had another chicken dish called Chicken diablanca (betting I spelled that wrong) I will try it next time. on the other side of us had chicken Picadaand I could smell the wonderful sauce fromtheir food before we got ours. You have to ask for the olive oil when the bread comes, trust me its worth asking for, you wont be disappointed. Very rarely do I offer up five stars on restaurants, but the service was great and the food was better.
Im no Gordon Ramsay but here goes nothing: The bread is about the only good thing we had. The wait staff needs to be trained better. He brought bread with no butter or oil mixture to the table. He had no idea what the special was on the board. He couldnt describe to us what was in it. When we asked for oil for the bread he brought a full bowl of oil to the table with a 1/4 size leaf of basil in it. No seasoning or spices. We ordered the Caprese Salad for $8.99 and received a head of lettuce chopped up with one small Roma tomato sliced up, four pieces of mozzarella cheese and completely bland balsamic vinegar with no basil or seasoning on it. There was absolutely no flavor! I quickly got over it in hopes of the main course. I ordered the lasagna and my wife ordered the pasta sampler. The dishes were brought out and I could of sworn that they were the same exact dish. They looked exactly alike and they tasted exactly alike. The portion size was a little larger than a Lean Cuisine serving. My lasagna was a pile of cheese and meat sauce with very little meat and there was literally maybe 1/3 of one sheet of pasta. To top it off the pasta was so over cooked it had no texture, that is if there was actually any pasta in the dish. The cook clearly has never made lasagna anywhere else and most likely never eaten lasagna before either. I found out where all the basil went though, it was in the sauce! Now in hopes of maybe moving on to my wifes dish and getting some sense of Italian pleasure, I dove into her dish and could find nothing that resembled Cheese Manicotti, Cannelloni or lasagna again! Your not going to make it in the business of Italian food by taking a bag of cheese and pouring it on top of some sauce with a little meat and call it something different for each dish. I seriously felt ripped off. You will be better served going across the street at HEB and buying the Lean Cuisine lasagna, Manicotti and cannelloni and save yourself $35. Being the only Italian restaurant in town may keep you in business for a short time but you clearly wont last. I didnt ask for a discount but the waiter clearly heard my critiquing of the food and it was only meant for the wife to hear. The waiter stated that others have come in and complained that the food was essentially a tomato soup with meat and a ton of cheese on top. Lastly, I watched the kitchen and my waiter, another waiter and what looked like the owner all wiped their noses with their hands and not once washed them. The sole female waitress didnt happen to wipe her nose in front of me although I did hear her state how crappy this town was and that everything is called El Jalisco. Seriously folks, you would get more repeat business if you bought Lean Cuisines microwaved them topped them off with cheese and sauce or maybe drove down to the El Jalisco and bought their Fideo!
First time there. Wont be my last time. Small Italian restaurant but big on food and atmosphere with Italian music playing in the background. Lunch special serviced daily till 3:00. Three of us each taking home a goodie bag. A basket of home made garlic rolls greated us as soon as we were seated. My sausage calzone was stuffed with sausage and cheese. A tomato sauce was served on the side for dipping. The place has only been open for two weeks. Best of luck to you Bella Sera.
So have come here a lot, recommend to friends, tipped well, etc., no more. Walked in, waited and were never approached by a hostess. 3 more parties walked in, we all sat ourselves. Waited for about 15 minutes, were never waited on, never approached by staff. Finally just got up and left. Went next door to limestone which had at least double the amount of patrons and were waited on within 3 minutes. Have lived in this community for 20 years and fully support local businesses, extremely disappointed...
As a family we ordered a to go order of 2 eggplant parm and 2 orders of chicken parm we also ordered fired ravioli and calamari the eggplant was like mush the chicken was hard as a rock toasted ravioli not sure were the were we got this pan of not sure what it was if it was the ravioli it looked and tasted like dog food the calamari was right on the edge of going bad the smell was so bad we had to put it in the trash outside the garlic knots were burned through these trying times we try to support our local business I sure didn’t expect what we got it was all just terrible we will not go back Cheryl haney

2022-05-31Just got their pasta sampler lunch special and a side salad to-go. Delicious food. 😍 And the salad was nice and fresh! Their marinara is *chef’s kiss* so good! Only thing missing that I noticed when I got home was the bread, which made me sad since I was looking forward to trying it and I love bread. Oh well. Service was great, too! Food was ready in a very timely manner and the girl helping me was personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Food is priced reasonably, as well. Will definitely be coming back!Update: My husband and I went the other day for dinner (dine-in) and everything was delicious!! From the salads to the soups to the entrees.. and I got to try the bread this time; it’s to DIE for. It’s so tempting now to get takeout here all the time since we live so close, haha.

2021-04-04We love this place! We have eaten here several times and tried a variety of dishes. Everything has been incredible. Today we had the lunch specials: meat Stromboli, cheese calzone, sampler platter, spaghetti and meat sauce, and gluten free zitti and meat sauce. Great portions for the price. The garlic rolls with the garlic and olive oil are incredible. The wait staff has always been friendly, helpful, and attentive, without being intrusive. This place is always a hit.

2022-03-15My son and I came across this place a couple of months ago when they were in the middle of renovation and were disappointed we couldnt try the food. But we came here tonight with my other half for dinner. We werent disappointed this time. The food easily made our top Italian restaurants list, not in San Antonio, but of all places weve eaten. I grew up in the New York/New Jersey area and have traveled extensively in the states and eaten Italian food a lot. My late Italian grandmother would have loved this food. My son has been to Italy and said its as good as anything he ate over there. The bread is amazing and baked fresh, the clam sauce was delicious and had fresh chopped clams. My son loved his spaghetti and meatballs and my GF loved her eggplant parm. This is a family run restaurant and kudos for that. We will be back.If you like Italian food go here.

2022-05-29The service was lovely and the restaurant was clean, but the food was the worst Italian food I’ve ever had. I suddenly understand why people love Olive Garden so much. It’s hands down 100% better than this place. I’ve had better Italian out of the freezer section at Walmart. The bread was tough, the oil was just the worst, the salad had wonderfully fresh produce, but consisted of half croutons and was swimming in so much dressing I almost confused it for soup. And the pasta. Oh man the pasta. “Sautéed” chicken really meant poached practically to sawdust. Noodles were over cooked. And it was my second near soup of the night in an uncooked watery wine sauce with canned artichokes that were tough nearly beyond edibility. It’s a shame really. They were very nice and accommodating, there was just no saving any of the meal. Only way to save the place would be to scrap of the recipes and start from scratch. Maybe hire a new chef.

2022-03-21I was seriously hoping this was going to be outstanding. And the garlic knots and the Stromboli were really good. My pasta combo was like something I would throw together at home. My wife had the meatball sub which was a disappointment. The meatballs tasted like they were frozen meatballs from the store. And while there were only a few customers in the restaurant, the service left a LOT to be desired.I asked the server if they had any fresh coffee and her long pause to think about her answer told me all I needed to know. When she said yes they had fresh coffee, I hoped that meant she was going to make some. However, that was some of the oldest coffee I have drunk in a long time. Also, I couldnt count how many times she walked past our table to help other customers without checking on us. Lastly, the tiramisu was not very good. It had almost no flavor at all.My sister said that the lunch specials were really good. So, we will give them one more try for lunch and hope its much better.

2020-11-07Bruschetta was terrible. The chicken soup was actually well proportioned and tasty. Manicotti was average. Had to request utensils. Order a chicken dish and the chicken was tough and dry. And, Im guessing the weight person was new to taking orders in a restaurant.

2019-09-16Wasnt excellent, wasnt bad. I had to almost go into kitchen for them to notice we were there, and there was only 2 customers in there.Cheese sticks werent tasty, the breading had no flavor. The bread was fantastic. The house dressing for salad was to tomatoey, with very little basil flavor to it.I had the Veal Saltimboca which had excellent flavor. My wife had the Chicken Verona which she enjoyed, but not overly satisfied. We saw different types of reviews, good and bad. Thought wed give it a try for my birthday. Not anything exciting to present a definite return, but would go back on occasion.

2022-05-01It is sacrilegious to call this an Italian restaurant. The chicken had no flavor and was obviously microwaved many times. The sauce, as they called it, tasted like dirty water. Never, ever again.
