Loved my stay very clean and safe hotel for single women that travel for business! One negative is the coffee that is offered in the bathrooms of your room. It was terrible.. dont know who their vendor is but they need to by brand name coffee such as Folgers or Maxwell house. You might get a good cost on the price for coffee since is high, but you cannot put a price on good coffee for l your customers!Loved my stay other than the coffee offered in the room.April in Dallas
This is the only hotel I stay at when visiting Athens. I was there a few days ago and couldnt ask for better service, hospitality or cleanliness. Management/staff always make you feel so welcomed. The facility is very well maintained and clean. Lisa and her team are always so helpful with any needs you may have. The friendliness and cleanliness is the why I choose to always stay there.
We had a great experience staying here! Very professional and courteous staff. Plus very nice and clean! My only minor complaint was a lack of easily accessible vending machines or available snacks. They did have some things at the front desk and a soda machine that only had 1 soda type left at the time. I have 2 young kids and having these types of things on sight is easier. Like I said a minor thing, but helps when traveling as a family. Otherwise great hotel!!!
I had come to visit with a family friend that was staying there and the attitude & mannerism of the hotel staff was absolutely rude & disrespectful. The lady who runs this business, Lisa Fields, is the most hateful human I’ve ever encountered. She spoke to me like she was looking down her nose on me. I tried my best to control my temper because I was only visiting and not staying. I did not want my friend to get into any trouble with his stay. This woman berated me over asking simple basic questions. She must have been having a bad day but it gives her no right to berate people who walk up to her desk to simply inquire about a guest. Her customer service skills are downright atrocious. Whoever owns this business really needs to send her to anger management and business skills classes. I will let everyone I know, (Most of Athens), that this is not the hotel to pick when visiting our town. The Holiday Inn is a much better pick. Their staff are always warm & welcoming. 💯
Positive: Convenient location and parking availability. Negative: The room we were in had burn marks on the floor. When my wife went to pick up our breakfast they were out and refused to make anymore even though they were still open for breakfast. Must wear masks signs on the doors but he staff were not wearing any.
The business center is closed, the guest laundry isnt working, the continental breakfast is disgusting and served by an extremely rude man, I think his name is Mike. Its expensive and I dont appreciate paying for stuff that doesnt work although its listed online. The rooms are adequate. I was gone all day long and when I returned my room wasnt tidied up. I asked about it and was told theyd give me a trash bag if I wanted to fill it up and put it outside my door. Im in the middle of selling my house and Im a local and I will be telling everyone I know to not stay in this place. Horrible.
Ok so the beds were comfy but we had some issues. When we checked in it was late we already had a room reserved with 2 queen size beds. When we went to our room it had not been cleaned the beds were not made and there was trash all over. When my husband went down to the front desk they upgraded us to a room with a king size bed and a fold out couch. We really needed 2 beds. We were staying for 3 nights and only got 1 voucher for the breakfast in th lobby ( they are doing take away because of COVID) They day we were to check out housekeeping came and knocked on our door and walked right in at 830AM. And our final recipt had been pushed under the door. We will not be staying here again.
My favorite place to stay in Athens. Well maintained, clean, modern facilities. Love the pool and hot tub. The staff are always happy to assist with anything you may need for your stay. You may find a cheaper room but Best Western rates are very reasonable for the added amenities and luxurious rooms it includes. I especially like the full size ceiling to floor mirror door on the closet in most rooms. It swings around to every angle of view in the room. You could swing it around to see how well you look resting in the relaxing bed, plush bedding and soft pillows. You just gotta experience it for yourself. Spend a little more & get ALOT more. You deserve it!
Ive stayed at many hotels of all kinds and budgets and this one has to be the best at everything. They go above and beyond to make your stay great. Housekeeping is very honest and were amazing. We will definitely be back and will stay here anytime were in the area. Breakfast was yummy every morning. Beds are very comfy and really like how quiet the room was.
Hotel staff was very helpful and went out of their was to make us comfortable and the room was very clean and tidy. The only issue we encountered was with the water pressure which was a city wide issue. Which wasnt the hotels fault whatsoever. But other wise had a great stay. The girl at the front desk even went out of her was to go turn the hot tub on as soon as we got done checking in because we were going to go change then go to the hot tub. She was also very nice during check in and check out.
I am a platinum member of Best Western and have enjoyed my stays with them up to my experience in Athens Texas. Here the customer service was very unprofessional. The management ( Lisa fields) was rude and overbearing. The staff was rude and had very poor hygiene by having a bad body odor that carried across the desk. Not all rooms had the essential necessities that most rooms carry. When calling the front desk about the theses necessities no action or concern was taken. My info was freely given to other members of my party without my consent.Because this experience was not up to Best westerns standards, I call and file a formal complaint. After doing so I book a room at Athens Best Western in good faith that proper management would encourage Mrs Fields to uphold the proper standards. Upon arriving Mrs Fields was there and I was asked to wait, I waited in the range from 25 to 30 mins. To only be told that I was being refused service for the complaint that I had made. This was only an act of retaliation rather than trying to have better costumer service Mrs. Fields only showed her true self in costing a costumer a 30 min drive to to another town and separation from family. My conclusion is that Best western fails to hold representatives of their name accountable. Members that hold a position as manager should fully understand their purpose out weighs their position. Such management cause a ripple effect to other employees and this statement proves itself at the Athens Texas Best Western.
The manager of this location (Lisa Fields) is extremely unprofessional & rude! She has no business working in the customer service/ hospitality industry. Her job is supposed to be to ensure that the people who stay there have a relaxing and enjoyable experience, yet that is not the case. She is rude from the second you enter this hotel, and has no concern for the customers. I would not recommend staying there, but would highly recommend the Holiday Inn down the street, they have excellent customer service and nicer rooms!
Staff was nice. The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable with plenty of pillows. The pool and hot tub are outdoors and its raining so theres that... Small fitness center had equipment out of order. Breakfast was basic. Over all good stay but I would recommend Holiday Inn because of the indoor pool and better Breakfast. Plus the Coffee is better there... I didnt hate it but didnt love it either so 4 out of 5 stars
I stayed here during a business trip. I am sad to say I am extremely dissatisfied and will never be staying here again after only one night. I chose this hotel because it was much cheaper than the other options in Athens, Tx. It began well- nice check in clerk. I had no issues getting my ESA K-9 signed in and my room on the second floor was very clean upon arrival. I went to bed and all throughout the night the a/c was groaning and rattling- so I called and complained to the front and they said no other rooms were readily available so I dealt with it. Around 5 am after getting horrible sleep due to the a/c more madness ensues. Maids and guests throughout the halls were very loud and disruptive it almost seemed like it was on purpose. They slid my receipt for my stay under my door around 6 am and juggled my door aggressively when doing so. Every single time someone in a meant room left their room the doors shake the extremely thin walls. I will not stay with best western ever again, no matter how much cheaper they are!
Everything from the front desk staff to the breakfast was great. The room was perfect and we enjoyed ever part of it on our long weekend. I especially want to thank the front desk customer service representative, Austin, as I had some unusual requests and he was able to accommodate them all.
We could not have been happier with our stay at the Best Western Plus Royal Mountain Inn. From check-in to check-out it was a wonderful experience; the cleanliness of this facility was top notch! The appearance of the grounds and the Inn is beautiful and well kept. All new amenities and up to date decor...it is beautiful! When you walk in the Lobby smelt like a freshly cleaned home and that continued throughout the facility. The complimentary breakfast was amazing...a completely full breakfast from start to finish, anything you wanted it was there, not just the normal pastries and juices that you would get in most facilities. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here and if my family is visiting the area again we will definitely stay her again!
Stayed the night before Easter. “We have WiFi but the cable is out”. No breakfast? Ok. But no coffee in the lobby even? Not even in a separate bar like they have at 7-11? They ha d a cold pastry and a coffee maker I. The room with one sugar and one creamer. This place sucks.
We had a wonderful stay. Excellent accommodations. Upon arrival it was discovered that Expedia failed in sending reservation to Best Western, even though we had already paid. Lisa gave us her last room while remaining on the phone for a couple of hours to no avail. The next morning when asking the results we were told Expedia would not correct their mistake and Best Western comped us the room. We will be staying at the Best Western in Athens on subsequent trips to Canton. Thank you, Lisa
This place is absolutely an incredible place to stay. Very clean and great breakfast every morning. Manager LISA will do everything she can to make your stay the best. I do not know what my father and I would have done without her. Trevor, Robin and David all came together and made this a 10 star experience. Thank you Lisa.
Wonderfully pleasant experience. when we go to a hotel there is at least one or two things wrong. There was nothing at all to complain about. The room was clean, large, very accommodating and the continental breakfast in the morning was wonderful. No complaints. Very courteous staff as well
Got a great rate through Priceline as we were driving though during our move from Boston to Houston. Very clean and well kept. Free breakfast was one of the better ones with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, warm cinnamon buns, as well as make it yourself Texas-shaped waffles (cute). Didnt use the outside pool but looked clean and well maintained. Of note, they do not allow pets.
I helped transport some of our Boy Scout Troop to their summer camp near Athens, TX. We drove up on Sunday and I stayed at the Best Western Plus in Athens with a plan of returning home the next morning (Monday). When I woke up on Monday morning I was VERY Ill with Vertigo, blurred vision, and and inability to think clearly. I was concerned I was having a stroke! I contacted the front desk for help, and they responded in a most outstanding way! The Manager took charge and had staff members caring for me, contacting my wife at the Scout Camp and calling for an ambulance to take me to the local ER. I got to the needed medical attention quickly., where it turned out to be an inner ear problem and NOT a stroke.Obviously I could not drive back home so they arranged for me to stay at the Motel until my children could arrive and drive my car back. Each day those who originally took care of me checked in on me and made sure I was OK each day.I am amazed and extremely grateful for this outstanding period of action, compassion, concern, and consideration. Despite the original illness, I am most happy I went to Athens TX and was able to meet these amazing people!BTW, the Motel was pretty great too! I cant find any fault with it at all. Highly Recommended!
I recently stayed here overnight. I had booked my room 2 weeks in advanced through Expedia and specifically requested 2 extra pillows. The pillows in the room I rented with a King bed were all 4 standard size pillows, and ALL were lumpy and not comfy. The bed was worn. When I asked the desk clerk for 2 extra pillows due to my acid reflux, he stated that he could only give me 1 additional pillow .There was a little league team staying at the hotel the same weekend that I rented, therefore kids were running up and down all over the lobby, dining area, and elevators and halls. The room was clean but the bed felt older. The pillows were ready for the trash actually. The breakfast was lacking, the trash cans in the diningroom were overflowing.I was really disappointed with this hotel!!!Bring your own pillows if you need a good nights sleep!!!
Hotel felt brand new, and the staff was all helpful. Everything was extremely comfortable and clean, and breakfast was good. Make sure to pull in the parking lot VERY slowly at an angle, or youll damage your bumper! That dip is relaly bad, but otherwise, no complaints. Easily the nicest hotel and best value in Athens.
The front desk personnel and hotel management are very polite and personable. They seem genuinely interested in making your stay the best possible experience. They are down to earth people but highly professional in their approach to their jobs. They go out of their way to facilitate your check-in and departure process. The rooms are simply furnished but impeccably clean and the ambient air is discretely fragranced. The TVs always work well and the internet service is readily and easily accessible and provides uninterrupted service. The bathrooms are exceptionally clean and the fixtures in excellent condition. The porcelain sinks, bathtubs and toilets are not cracked, chipped or stained. The housekeeping services are excellent. The buffet breakfast is basic and simple but a pleasantly delectable start to the workday. This is by far the best place to stay in the Athens, TX area.
Very nice hotel, clean, well kept, friendly and helpful staff and reasonably priced with all amenities. The pool, hot tub, workout facilities, a business center with fax & computer if I remember correctly, and an apatitesing breakfast. But since Covid 19, they have understandably closed & suspended those amenities as a precaution to avoid spreading the virus.
I have stayed here in the past and when I am in Athens, this is the only place I will stay. The rooms are clean and do not smell. The hallways and common areas are clean. The breakfast, when I have time for it, is always good. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone needing a great place to stay.
Been here 3 days. Rates good. Friendly and helpful employees. Great free breakfast. They have a waffle iron in the shape of Texas. Large waffle and delicious. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sweet rolls, juice, coffee, fresh fruit. Wow. I dont want to leave.
This is a very nice hotel with a pool, hot tub, exercise room, business room and good breakfast buffet. The only reason for 3 stars is the entrance/exit. The driveway is very steep. My truck is a tad long and the hitch scraped the ground every time we had to leave. If they fix the driveway, I would use this hotel again.
This hotel is by far the best Best Western for the price. I am a Diamond Select member and stay in Best Westerns at least 50 nights a year. The staff is always professional, the rooms are always clean, the internet is always working, etc. This in contrast to the Best Western that I stayed in Pensacola, Florida during Blue Angel weekend where the room was overpriced and the service was horrible. There was wet urine on the plastic part of the sleeper sofa, the internet was horrible, the AC sounded like it was about to take off when it turned off, the lobby was small and cramped, and the front desk staff was not that friendly. The only positive experience was the interactions with the weekday breakfast lady. I expected more from Best Western based on past experiences with the Best Western in Athens, Texas where I pay half the price for a room and get at least 10 times better service and room.
The room was clean, mattress comfortable, and the traffic noise from highway 31 was ignorable, with practice. The eggs at the morning buffet were interestingly cool and rubbery, not unlike a yellow floor mat cut into convenient bite-sized pieces... but they were more cheerful than the morning news fear-mongering poking at us from the TV, a steady, cruel infliction of psychic injury upon the credulous. Ick.And then there was the exercise room, apparently out of commission for weeks and no provision made with a local gym as a substitute. That was inconsiderate and unprofessional. It was my second stay there and my last.
This is an excellent hotel that I recommend to anyone. The rooms are very clean and neat and all personnel are very friendly and helpful to assure that our stay is comfortable. My wife and I had an extended stay for nearly eight months while our house was being built and I highly recommend to anyone that they should stay at this facility. They get ten gold stars as far as I am concerned.
Five stars, each one well deserved. A well-presented property, clean rooms, welcoming staff, plenty of hot water, sink and shower drains work as designed, breakfast is varied, breakfast area adequate and the price for a room is right. What more could you ask? Id stay here again.
Probably the best hotel in the city. Really cozy rooms and the housekeeping was on point. You can tell this is an established place and theyve been doing this awhile. The rooms looked a little dated, the Wi-Fi worked when it wanted to and the nice lady from the front desk quickly helped me with my tv when it had issues.I enjoyed my stay, just wish I hadnt missed breakfast!!
When in Athens, I stay here. This is the first time I have been disappointed. The pool was green and had algae, the rooms had an odor and the front desk staff were sloppy in appearance, if you could find them. I was embarraed as I stay here often and had planned a meeting and reserved several rooms for this most recent stay. I hope they will make the necessary changes to bring this hotel back up to the service it had.
This is not a 4 star hotel,. Lumpy pillows made of foam chunks, peeling paint in the bathroom, smelly wet elevator (pool water I hope). Very noisy on a Saturday night. Not a good value. Front desk was clueless about suggesting local restaurants. No charm to this place.
Staff not wearing masks not informing masks even though entry doors state everyone must wear one. Had to wait for staff member to stop messing around in the office with her teenage son and his friends to even get waited on. This place for wasnt very clean. Horrible place.
This place is the biggest pile of crap in Athens, honestly. It looks great Im sure the rooms are wonderful but the customer service is terrible. Around 1am my mother in law asked us to go book a room in her name with her card while she was waiting to be discharged from the emergency room with two broken bones in her leg after a major fall. When we walked in the man at the desk (DAVID) told us we needed to have her with us since we had her I.d and card (I understand the laws rules etc) we left and came back with her in the truck about an hour later. The man at the counter ( DAVID) knew our situation and that shes unable to walk on that leg at all. When we went in to book the room we told him she was in the truck we just cant bring her in obviously because of the leg and he ( DAVID) REFUSED to even come outside to look and verify she was the one with us. I know that for safety reasons they normally wouldnt do that but Im sure this has happened to almost any hotel and things are handled a certain way. I find it completely unacceptable fortunately we were able to find another hotel that treated us with only the best hospitality, where the desk clerk gladly came to the car to verify her I.d. Ive lived in this town my whole life and have never seen customer service that poor. I can assure you I will never refer anyone to best western in Athens ever again.
The newest hotel in Athens, this place is just the shot in the arm that local tourism needs. Clean, large, and handily located, with friendly staff.Ive personally rented rooms for photo shoots (the wife and I run a photography business), and suggest this location when people visit from out of state (we also host karate training camps periodically).
The water pressure was not great, needed work, along with bathroom lock. You can hear other guest walls are really thin. Haliburton employees were staying and the employees put tgem on 1/2 floors. In which these workers were drinking beer, loud, and left tgeir bottles for the front desk to dispose of! Beds were not comfortable. Not worth $90.00 a night
I was received several insect bits to my body during this stay. I asked the attendant was he aware if there were any other complaints of insect bits. He made no reply. This was Thursday morning, I returned home the next day went to my doctor . He informed me I had been bitten by bed bugs.
Staff and Management lied upon checkout, charging us an additional $250 for the stay. In addition, we already paid out of pocket amount which was around $200/night.. This was during our Hurricane Harvey evacuee situation and was absolutely the worst experience. Sadly, we found this to be true for all of Athens, Tx. Tyler was 100% better.
This was a sleazy motel. It was in a high crime area, where I wouldnt go out to catch the bus without my son. When we did, there were highly questionable men watching us on the property. While nothing happened while we were there, there were two separate shooting and men killed two months later.
At first glance you wouldnt think it would be a high falutin hotel but Im closer expections it is neat tidy orderly the staff is quick and efficient almost robotic like is that regard but they are friendly in quite knowledgeable and can tell you where and when things are going to happen or how to get to certain places if you get lost the food at the continental breakfast is about as much as you can expect from a hotel breakfast without breaking out the caviar and champagne the eggs are satisfactory the bagels are usually fresh and they have a nice selection of English muffins on hand and toast downside is the sausage is a little too greasy so if you get on come in for breakfast on a day that has the bacon youre in luck otherwise went yourself on the sausage if you have any type of gastrointestinal problems no one wants greasy belly orange and beverages with your breath is you have a choice of hot tea coffee or juices cocoa and milk really decent light up in that regard and fresh waffles made regularly depending on if youre making them yourself or having a friend or significant other making for you when I go back just for the breakfast maybe but the room service is where this place shines what these ladies do work they do it well but most people who look at hotels and see if poor wanting to know how the pool is one if you have a sensitive nose you mean when stay clear it has a heavy chlorine smell not saying its against them but were living in Texas and nearing the end of spring you know how microbials are other than that is actually fairly nice pool ambient lighting great seating and the option of smoking around the pool if you are curious there have non-smoking and smoking options for rooms to but Im more than mine so smoking outside being nice to others no one wants to walk into a smoke cloud on all my reviews good marks would you go again
David was a great guy at the front desk very polite really liked his job and went out the way to make my family very happy during our vacation and the breakfast was awesome and I enjoyed the fitness room with water and treadmill they were sold out and I see why I would recommend this place for anyone if David is at the front desk he will answer every need and concern!!!!

2022-04-26Positive: Comfortable bed and pillows Negative: Even munchkins would think the toilet height is very low. Comforter or blanket would be nice. Had two top sheets and light bedspread.

2022-02-28Positive: The staff was friendly and helpful. Negative: There was juice all over the elevator floor and it was tracked all through out the hotel. I told the staff and about 4 hours later I saw the General Manager with a rag and cleaner trying to get into the elevator. The beds are horribly uncomfortable.

2021-10-02This hotel is “fine.” The decor was a little off putting to me, but it’s clean enough and nice enough. I’m not sure there is a better hotel in the area. The staff is nice and the bed was comfortable. I was disappointed with the fitness room. It’s very small and it would be hard for more than one person to be in there. The rooms could definitely use some updating but overall, it’s okay. I don’t usually stay at best westerns but I’ve never been at a hotel with such bad lighting. They need a better standard for light temperatures. Also the sofa in our room looked legit too gross to sit on.

2021-12-30Nice room. Hot breakfast boxes were available in the morning! Scrambled eggs, sausages and a biscuit. I could have requested a waffle, too.

2021-06-01Positive: The beds wand all the pillows were very comfortable. and I loved the shower pressure. Negative: I was very saddened by the thin walls. We could here everything going on. And the street noise was bad to. I also disliked the very sad sack breakfast that was provided in the place of a nice breakfast. And there was not enough seating in the room.

2021-10-08This is a nice place. I only gave it 3 stars, because our bathroom and spa fixtures were all broke. The cleaners they use have an intense smell so strong it gave me a sore throat. Nice hot free breakfast.

2022-01-17It was cool. Had no issues, easy check in and out and that Belgian Waffle I had, the bomb. (unless I was just really hungry lol)

2021-08-02The room was clean and well appointed. The staff was very friendly. The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. Coffee was available and the refrigerator kept our drinks cold. Good Place that I will come back to for a trip to Athens, Texas. So much to do there!
