Wow! I was not expecting this in Alpine, TX. I think I enjoyed shopping in here more than Whole Foods and Central Market maybe solely because it was so unexpected.Great fresh, organic veggies. Grass feed beef! Unique specialty beer and wine.We stocked the Rv up on pastured eggs and organic milk and ice cream before heading into Big Bend. Well be back again for sure.
I wish this store was in my town. It is like I selected the items in it myself. We did all of our shopping for our family of six for a week stay in Alpine. They have everything you need at fair prices. It is all of the best health foods you love at all of the places you come from. Just go there- its a family business, the products are great, and they are so kind.
Their online inventory is completely wrong from what’s inside. Website says tofu is in stock. Showed up at the store the same day to find no tofu in stock whatsoever. We drove from an hour away to buy tofu. Whole store is over priced and website delivery expected daye/inventory is wrong.
Odd place to find a whole foods type of store ran by crunchy people. My guess is they know hikers, etc. will be driving by and need last minute supplies. Their prices were pretty steep so Im giving this a good but not great rating. I saw the same coffee in town for almost 5 dollars cheaper.
Having lived all around Texas, big cities and rural, hands down this IS the best health food store I have ever encountered...The variety and abundance in this small town store is amazing...I HIGHLY recommend Bluewater Natural Foods....Also, in response to the previous comment about the store being expensive I must say that the prices are in line with most other natural food stores and carrying such a PHENOMENAL inventory creates high overhead and operating expenses...I am thrilled to see the variety of frozen foods, meats, cheeses, produce, supplements, etc...etc...etc...It costs money for this owner, who I do not know, to provide this variety to the community...There is another thing one must consider re pricing. Being a former organic/grassfed beef and pork rancher, I can tell you, without reservation, I had to charge more for the meats I produced because it cost me more to produce organically...Just some things to consider regarding pricing...I have no idea who owns this store, but I commend them for operating a great store and providing such a variety of healthier options for their community.
Pleasantly surprised by the size of this market and the extensive selection of healthy food; i was able to do a full grocery shop here. i especially liked how much organic, gluten-free and bulk food there was to choose from. beer, wine and bath/beauty products are available as well. i noticed but didn’t take advantage of a sandwich counter (i think that’s what it was). the staff are friendly and helpful and my cashier kindly helped me carry my groceries to my car.
The selection here was far more than I expected. I wish we had not been in such a time crunch when going so that we could have explored more. We did expect a deli that could make sandwiches while there, and did not know that they only offer previously prepared sandwiches.
If you are a health conscious person, eating clean food, and is concerned where to get something decent in Alpine while hiking Big Bend, this is your spot. It saved me on my trip. Their freshly made wraps are oit of this world. Full selection little health food store and deli. You will find a little bit of everything there. Vegan friendly!
As others have said this place still carries everything youd expect from a health food grocery. The price was not outrageous either. Definitely plenty of vegan options and gluten free options plus meat eating options. They have ready made meals some vegan some not. Worth your coin if you plan to shop in the area before going out.
Absolutely horrible experience. I took my daughter who suffers from severe aspergers and the employees there kept laughing behind our backs at my little girl. When I took it up to a manger she just sneared and said her employees did nothing wrong and no direct offense was given towards my daughter. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the employees and above all else the stuck up manager who did nothing.
Its nice to have this option in our small town. While they dont have a full selection of produce, they do have a surprising amount of different foods. Most foods are organic/non-gmo, and some are locally grown. The prices on some items are quite a bit above your standard grocery store, but others are very competitive, especially considering the higher quality products.I havent tried the new deli. The prices there were above what I wanted to pay.
I was really impressed to visit Alpine and find this store had grown so much and developed such a nice selection. The service us quite friendly as well. We visited late in the day so we didnt get to try the food/smoothie bar, but I liked the store. The prices are indeed high, as one would expect for a place so far off the truck route. It was a little frustrating as well to have two prices listed for all the products, because it made me feel like I had to pay even more than necessary. They told me I didnt live close enough to qualify for the lower price, which I didnt like. I would think seeing a lower price should be incentive to the customer, but that made me feel kind of helpless.
Good place, dont like that prices are member price and you have to look at the little price in the corner to see how much you will actually pay.. They are a bit more expensive than the chain places or places in the big city, but for the convenience, it can be worth it..
While visiting Davis Mountains State Park it was suggested that we visit Blue Water Natural Foods in Alpine. Wow, are we glad we did. They have a selection of foods that you would only expect to find in a large city and all the vegetables were extreemly fresh. Prices apeared on par with other Natural Food Stores. We are always looking for Gluten Free foods and the selection of items available was very large.
Love this store. An independent organic foods supermarket and deli that serves the tri-county area. Fresh organic produce arrives twice a week. Great selection of frozen foods for those who prefer not to cook. Deli prepares fantastic salads and sandwiches on GF bread. Bulk items are reasonably priced. BW members receive 8% discount; vets, an additional 10% Staff is extremely helpful, but busy on Tuesdays and Fridays when fresh produce arrives. Outdoor tables where you can enjoy the view while eating your lunch.
This place was sort of a lifesaver in a way. In late December we were traveling to Tucson from Austin with our small 9lb dog. We were hungry for a good meal in Marfa and none of the places let us sit outside with the dog and eat. They said no tables in Winter, despite us saying we would. So, we found NO place in Marfa to eat. We looked on Google and spotted this place about 25 mins away or so. Got some good quality food, which, to be honest I wasn’t expecting a natural food store to be where it was. Got some food (and tiramisu as well as some kombucha) and we were pleased. Drove back to El Cosmico happy that we found a place we could run into and get a bite. On the way out we stopped again and what seemed to be a ten-year-old rang me up with supervision. Was a first, and hey, teaching work ethic early. Ha ha. We liked this place and will remember it.
Blue Water Natural Foods (BWNF) has got all the larger chain stores beat hands down.20181016 - I arrived today just after I had my van worked on across the street which by the way is a Great shop.Back to BWNF, Bob who works here took time to walk me through and show me the store. We talked for a bit and he said that the problem with most people today is they are starving. And I said, yes from processed foods. He agreed.I found items that I have been looking for, and not found for a few weeks. Thanks BWNF, keep up the great work.
An oasis in the desert for Celiacs! The best selection of gluten free foods and fresh vegetables and fruits. I stock up before I head to the park each time and on the way home. They have varieties of items that even Austin doesn’t have and I shop all the stores. Prices are very reasonable considering the remote area, the limited offerings around, and the need for healthy foods! GF is already pricey in large city stores so I expect nothing less from a local grocer who is doing the area a great service!!

2022-05-20Like a Natural Grocers except with tighter aisles. But they have pretty much everything. Some things they dont have a lot of, but still, considering the other options for natural food in the area... None... This is fantastic!

2020-12-15We tried to go in town at Porters, and we did not find any food that a human being should eat. Thanks to this shop, we were able to restock our camper with fresh, organic produce and products in general. They even have a bulk section with a lot of spices, so that was nice.It is a little bit pricey but I guess that’s the cost to pay to be autonomous in the desert for a few days.Definitely the best stop you can make before Big Bend National Park.

2022-03-22Everything is so overpriced it feels like going to Venezuela. You need a wheelbarrow full of cash to be able to go shopping here. This feels like living in a parallel dimension thats experienced 30% inflation for the past 5 years. But yes the products do look enticing. Maybe one day if I ever win that settlement from the bus company Ill be able to afford shopping here.
