I have been using Breed and Company since 2010. The place is a treasure! They have all kinds of things that are hard to get and things that you readily need. They have everything from high end dinnerware to toilet plungers to succulents and high quality cheeses and truffles. I live close by so I have the extra added advantage of it being walking distance. It’s such a great place I love it. And the people that work there go above and beyond to help you. Can’t say enough good things about this place.
Have spent a lot of money here over time, bought $150 worth of Christmas lights not realizing they were battery operated (needed plug-in), came back a couple days later to return or at lease get a store credit…Nothing. No credit. No return. I left the lights with the store. Sadly will have to start going to Amazon.
Went to have remote fobs for my car programmed, and have keys cut for the car. The gentleman who helped me was very courteous and efficient. Since I provided the fobs and blank keys, I was only charged for labor. It cost $20.00 plus tax total for 2 fobs and 2 keys. Absolutely great service and value!
This store is a favorite of mine. Half hardware store, half boutique shop, and half kitchen supply store, it is a fun place to peruse! In one half, it is fully equipped with all the hardware essentials, making it a fully functioning hardware store with helpful staff members. In the other half, home decor and kitchen supplies fill the store with cute and tempting buys. Just as good for plumbing repair as it is for holiday gifts. Also sells high-quality Case knives!
Great prices and always clean and stocked. Some of the young cashiers need to work on their customers service with everyone that comes to spend $ here! Treat everyone the same! Everyone especially people of color, our money is also green! The reason Im bringing this up is because a couple of weeks back a young Caucasian female cashier was sweet and polite with a customer ahead of me (also Caucasian) when I came up to pay for my items her smile and politeness just disappeared. No how are you today and thank you.Nothing like that, she asked is this all and handed me change and didnt say anything else! Made me feel like not going there anymore!!!I really hope that they read this and fix it or I will take my money somewhere else!
Breed is where I go when I have questions about anything hardware, construction, or home improvement orientated. They always have what I need, but you have to ask. In addition to being a great full service hardware store, the other half of the building is devoted to high end gifts and gardening.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐6/5 stars! If you know Breed & Company, a six out of five star rating makes perfect sense. From the welcome greetings and genuine offers to help to the unmatchable selection of...just about anything hardware store and then some(think awesome, hero making gift ideas), nobody comes close. This is where you come for that one missing piece that will complete your current project the way you want, not just what the BigBoxBrosDepot serve up. Breeds is not even more pricey. I went to above-mentioned and a couple Auto parts houses in search of some grade 8 socket head cap screws and only Breeds had what I was looking for. And Im not talking about something that will work, Im talking about exactly what I had in mind and it was cheaper than the big boxes, and I could buy just one if I wanted to, not a package of two, or three so you understand what Im saying:TRADE HERE!
We had a horrible customer service experience like many others have mentioned. The store is great but the customer service is terrible. Ours is specifically with the employee Eduardo. We asked him how his day was at check out and he went on a long talk about how horrible working retail in the holidays is. I was purchasing six mugs that were wrapped up for me and I asked to look at one of the mugs to make sure they were the ones I wanted and he gave me serious attitude. It was a gift and I wanted to make sure it was right. I then wanted to buy a Fir dish soap which he told me was not on holiday discount (I had been in the store 2 days prior and was given the holiday discount on the exact same item without even asking). When we had purchased all of our items we said “when we were here 2 days ago they gave us a student discount...can we use it again?” my husband showed his ID which is for MIT and we were told sorry it’s only for UT students. I have never seen a student discount specific to one school?? He said “I’ll be sure to tell my manager that this does not count”He was just so rude and condescending. It’s unfortunate so many people have issues with the employees because it is a nice store. I have never been treated so poorly by an employee as Eduardo treated us today.
I went in to buy paint for a home renovation. I was dealing with Jeff in the paint dept. While chatting with him a bit about different paint options he mentioned that he used to be in the photography world and could see the differences in color. I mentioned that my father was a master cabinet builder and could spot a piece of trim in a room that was a quarter of an inch off. We had a laugh and continued to complete the transaction As simple as that seems, it was a great experience. I lost my father a year ago and by mentioning his sharp attention to detail, Jeff understood the beauty of being meticulous. Jeff was so pleasantand helped me land on exactly the right shade of white. There are thousands of different white options and he nailed it today. Thank you Jeff.
I purchased a wooden picnic table from Breed, and when I unpacked all the parts to put it together, the table wasn’t lined up properly so we’ll have to use a circular saw to even out the ends. Also, the one of the wood seats had a chunk out of it, which I’ll have to fill with wood putty.I don’t have a problem with Breed per se, but I’m disappointed they gave me such a subpar product—perhaps they aren’t aware that this product isn’t manufactured well, they’ll see this and look into other resources.
For decades, Breed & Co has been my go-to place for quality merchandise and solid advice. Today, though, I see we’ve gone to a store full of nervous youngsters continually speaking furtively into their tiny black walkies as they rush by, ignoring customers. What are they talking about, and why is it all so urgent? Is an Apple Store Breed’s new model? Hardware to these clerks is over-priced chocolates and crystal vases (pronounced vozzes). None of them would know the difference between a rain gauge and coffee filters, neither of which were in stock. New management, please.
Best. Hardware Store. Ever! I love this place. When you enter, the left is the hardware, and right is home goods. I can bring my sweetheart here, and she can go right, Ill go left. We both meet at the register, and our home is improved!! They carry mostly everything you could want. And if they dont have it, they know where to get it.Super awesome service. Great selection. This is my go-to hardware store.
Always helpful and it is surprising how many items they carry. The people in the hardware department are way more knowledgeable and helpful than what youll find in a big box store. They are also very competitive with their prices. Come here first, you wont be let down.
Ace hardware practices in bad faith. Sold me a product at a discount online, emailed me to pick up and then refused to release the actual item when I showed to pick up curbside. Stated that it was a glitch in their promo codes and item should have been excluded. News flash -- you sold the item, honor it. Also note -- ACE is a huge corporation and it was a $5 discount on the item, it wouldnt have put them in bankruptcy and probably worth customer loyalty and satisfaction. Given the significant inconvenience, I would never shop at ACE for future purchases and will definitely share my experience with others.
That is a review for their dumb looking personnel who chat among themselves in a blinded space in the store and they look like gangsta members of the block when you ask them a question about the location or availability of an item. Man, if you dont like it working there, get out! You piece of ...
This is definitely the best local hardware store in Austin, and one of the best in Texas. They are consistently friendly, they greet customers when they walk in, and they always have what you need that is of good quality, practical use, and reasonable price. They also are well stocked, well organized, and they always have very high customer traffic. If they ask if you need help and you do, they are willing to help you every step of the way, and if they ask if you need help and you dont, they dont bother you, they dont watch you, and they dont follow you around. All in all, whatever you need, from novelty to practical, and from hardware/housewares to gardening/gifts, Breed & Co. is the place to go!
Great local hardware store with a lot more than your typical local hardware store! The selection is very good and the staff is very knowledgeable helpful, always eagerly offering their help.My general impression is that its a little bit more expensive than Home Depot, but definitely this is a good option for the area and also if youre looking for good service.
Okay so yes it does have normal Ace Hardware and garden. However, the store is far nicer with lots of high end home goods, cooking supplies, decorations, and food.Parking is always horrible here and expect to be surrounded by tons of soccer moms in range rovers.Worth going to for basic home goods, advice, or something to top off your home.
I love that Breed and Co is close to my house, very convenient. They always have quality products and decent pricing. It is a bit crowded at the Westlake store, but not too bad. If you are looking for a nice gift, this is the place to go. I always go after any holiday as they have their holiday items on sale with great discounts. Occasionally I run into a snobby salesperson/cashier, but for the most part they are very helpful and friendly.
This is only the second or third time that I have given a 5 star rating. Breed & Company deserves it without a doubt. The staff is extremely competent and knowledgeable and the customer service is exceptional. About 95% of the time the price is almost the same as the big box stores, so price is not really a factor.
Breed is both a great small hardware store and home goods store. They have a surprising large selection stuffed into the store and a helpful staff. Ive gone here for random hardware supply like electrical cord, nuts, bolts, and the like but they also have services like key duplication. I even got a $20 duplicate for a chipped Honda Accord key that would have cost $100 at the dealership. Breed also has a weekly knife sharpening service - I couldnt believe what an improvement a sharpening was for my kitchen knives and a lot cheaper than buying new knives! Theres a bunch of other home goods here that I havent really even explored but I would check here first before heading out on the highway.
I would love to rate breed and company on 29th Street higher, because it is an exceptional store. However, my most recent experience there left much to be desired. let me start by saying Im a 6ft tall 270 lb 40 year old bearded man. Its rare that I get attitude thrown my way. However I was having problems finding the wheelbarrow I wanted to purchase so I asked the young lady in lawn and garden to help me. We checked every inch of that store to no avail. Then she asked an older gentleman if he knew where it was. His condescending attitude toward her infuriated me but I said nothing. We moved on to another older gentleman who worked there and ask the same question. Yet again his condescending attitude toward the young womans question was wholly unacceptable.
I just love this place - every time I go! We went for the bucket sale, and took time to figure out what we wanted. Everyone is so nice, and the items they carry are high quality! No wonder we read about retail stores going out of business these days! Everyone was so friendly! Wish I had bought more in my bucket! Next time, it will be full! Also, have been to the Westlake store and only have great things to say. This is not a paid advertisement! LOL!
Great little one-of-a-kind spot. Attentive employees and more knowledge than you get at the big box stores. At the same time there are space limitations and its not necessarily the place you go when youre about to remodel the back half. However they do have one feature that no one else has, AKA they paint match exactly. When you get paid here and you ask for a match it actually matches. No one else in town can do this as far as I know.
Been looking for one of these little guys everywhere! I’m an Arborist with Austin Metro Tree & Landscape and this is a diameter tape. It measures a tree across by wrapping around. It already has the math formula worked into the numbers and it makes the job way easier! Thanks Breed & Co!
I went to Breeds looking for a couple of sizes of A/C filters Breeds had one but not the other, an 18x30. I wanted 2 replacement 3 way lamp sockets. That part of the electrical section has not seen any housekeeping for a long time. After piling through everything in the area I found one in an open package. That whole section is a mess and poorly stocked. I wanted a couple of F40T12/CW bulbs. I found one in a 2-pack that had been opened and somebody took one and left the other. In addition in that section there were 4 used fluorescent bulbs, blackened ends and all. Again, terrible housekeeping! Who lets used bulbs sit on their shelves? I also wanted a nylon US flag. A very nice man helped me find them. I told him about the electrical section and his answer was that was going to be reset at some point in time. Come on Breeds! What about today? Their chocolate candy section does look very nice though if you are in to that sort of thing in a hardware store. For me I prefer to have a hardware store that keeps up on hardware items so that I can finish my projects.
If you have questions and want help figuring out what to get, Breed & Company is the place to go. They have the basics as well as more offbeat items; also things a homeowner or renter from the University might want. An ACE hardware store, they can get just about anything you need.I live in South Austin, but often come here rather than Lowes or Home Depot because of the service and home-town feel.
Went into Breed & Company today to get a key made (3 copies of the same key), traffic was heavy and it took me 25 minutes to get there and 25 minutes to get back. I had the keys made and paid $2.49 + tax for each of the three keys. However, when I got home the keys didnt work, they didnt even fit into the lock which means that they used the wrong blank. I called Breed & Company to tell them that the keys didnt work and ask for a credit to my credit card as I didnt want to drive another 50 minutes for $7.50 plus tax. I talked to two employees at Breed & Company including the manager and they refused to give me a credit unless I drove another 50 minutes... I assume that customer acquisition in the hardware business is more than $7.50, in this case they lost a good customer for $7.50 and it was their mistake in the first place. They were not the helpful hardware people!!
There is nothing quite like visiting a local hardware store. Most the people that work at Breeds will go out of their way to help or share personal experience on the problem you are trying to resolve. The guys in the hardware area actually build stuff. I always look for Phil. Hes my go to guy to get things done. Theyll even let you use their workspace in the back if you need to get out of a jam. The big box stores might save you a few bucks but in my opinion its not always worth it.
Keep it local and keep it austin by heading over to breed and co. for those hardware needs. traditionally a hardware shop, they now offer a great selection of dinnerware and kitchenware. several times i have found what i am looking for at a better price than those conglomerates home depot and lowes.
Fine crystal stemware, linens, chocolates, childrens games, and more are displayed just aisles away from hardware items such as silver polish, Formula 409 cleaner, mops, brooms, and plants to name just a few. Friendly service and guess what: 50% off on many items today! (June 2018) Stop in and grab a coffee sample or bottled drink and brouse, brouse, brouse!
Went in there today to buy some plants and when I finally got somebody to help me oh well you’re gonna have to wait until tomorrow because we are pricing today couldn’t give me a price right then I guess they didn’t want their money it was too much of a problem because there was only 10 people in the store never going there again I’m much better plants anywhere else anyway

2022-06-04Staff were super knowledgeable, friendly, and quick to assist. I ordered an item on line to be picked up at the store. I got greeted by several employees when I walked in, my item brought to me to quickly, explained additional merchandise so I can get it to meetmy needs, and assisted in getting the item to the car. I am a happy customer that will return!!! Plus store clean and had cute and quality items.

2022-02-22Ive come here on quite a few occasions now to purchase hardware and get keys cut. Every experience Ive had so far has been great and I constantly see employees personally assisting customers for extended lengths of time so its clear that the workers here care. Be it home, gardening, woodworking, and whatever else it seems they have it covered. The only downside Ive seen is maybe theres not as large a selection of product brands as larger stores, but the products they do carry are at least often high quality top brands. Given their physical space limitations, I dont consider this factor a detractor.

2022-02-05Looked on line for an oil can...... The one that fits in your hand. A small metallic squirt can...,old school. Well, only seemed available on-line shipment. I found the same style, but new and modern, red heavy plastic. Thats okay, serving it purpose. Extremely statisfied with B&C. It is a wonderful store. I RECOMMEND A VISIT...

2022-05-02The store is very nice. Employees are very helpful. The merchandise is very expensive. These are things you can pick up at Lowes or Home Depot or even Amazon for a lower price.

2022-03-03A welcome change from the scene and vibe of the big box home improvement stores. I have consistently been able to find what I am looking for. When I bought paint (for the first time ever) I was being helped by the owner and she was extremely helpful and kind, and ended up assisting me at the register as well.

2022-07-02We went to Breed and got excellent service to fix a complicated solution for making a bird feeder problem needing several bolts and spacers. Craig got it done both quickly and very adjustable.

2022-06-23They are in-composite. Slow and truly infuriating to deal with. Their tone became aggressive when they don’t know what’s going on their side of the counter. How hard is it to pay for screws. Not hard. Whoever Davide is doesn’t know common sense and the old lady was frankly extremely rude and running around asking for advice? Idk super unprofessional and quit rude.

2020-10-12This is a great neighborhood hardware store. They sell just about everything, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They occasionally have good sales as well. For instance, I just bought a quart of Valspar paint--which is currently 50% off. Shop here instead of big-box stores.

2022-01-10When you walk through the door, the hardware’s to the right and the nice house warming stuff is to the left.I’m not sure. But I think that’s how people used to see gender roles.Very convenient for me when I just need 1 bolt.

2021-10-05This store has a surprisingly robust paint and hardware selection for the size. The home and garden center is equally big. Theres a lot of good stuff crammed into this tiny store but it doesnt feel cramped. Its a great place for practical gift shopping or picking up essentials. And if you do need something specific, the staff is very helpful and can happily have things ordered. An all around nice place.
