Beckett ReviewOur mom moved into Beckett Brookdale in March of 2020. Staff members, Andy, Allison, and Moses helped to have her new apartment feeling like a home within days which helped her transition. Two weeks later the facility was put on lockdown due to the Covid virus and residents weren’t allowed out of their rooms. The staff really stepped up to keep the spirits of the residents high during such a challenging time. Instead of being able to see friends and family, the staff were the visitors. They helped with so much – from Natalie playing daily with our mom’s cat, Jae helping our mom get on Tele-med video calls or zoom calls and even helping with word challenge games our mom played. Once it was safe, bingo started up again and Allison always made sure our mom was attending. Very thoughtful. As for the facility, we’ve been pleased. All staff members are friendly. The place is well kept and smells nice. The food has been good and our mom has enjoyed speaking with the chef. Although staff member Andy is the Sales Manager, he has always been willing to help the residents where needed and give us guidance on who we should contact if we had a question. The staff has also taken the Covid virus very seriously for safety reasons and their efforts have paid off. Very few cases were reported at the facility and when one happened, it didn’t spread at all. We are very pleased about that. The Covid virus changed many duties of the staff members adding additional tasks not usually needed for all residents at all times such as delivering meals to every room for every meal. Restrictions are being removed when appropriate and being reinstated when needed thus changing the staff duties continually. We look forward to the day when Allison can hold more activities with the residents to keep them engaged and entertained and the caregivers have fewer tasks and don’t feel so overworked. Someday, our mom will be allowed visitors that can help her with things the caregivers are having to do now therefore allowing the caregivers to handle their original job duties. We would recommend the Beckett Brookdale facility to others.Signed,Elizabeth and Karen L.
My Father lived here only about 4 1/2 months, then his health had a turn for the worse. The entire Brookdale Beckett Meadows staff treated my Father with much kindness and compassion. Hey went out of their way to make sure he was happy and comfortable. We were very sorry to leave, but my Dad now needs a higher level of care. I highly recommend Brookdale Beckett Meadows.
I am very pleased with Brookdale Beckett Meadows. Both the staff and employees go out of their way to always make themselve available to our mother and Family. They always stop to say hello and see if there is anything they can do. They offer many activities that engage my mom which keeps her active and happy. I highly recommend Brookdale Beckett Meadows to anyone looking for an excellent place for their loved ones.
My mother-in-law and father-in-law both lived here for about a year until they passed away. They were both in the Clare Bridge unit (memory care), and we could not have been happier with their care. As their dementia progressed and the amount of care they needed increased, the staff continued to treat them with kindness, patience, and dignity. Staff members came and cried with the family when they passed away, 3 months apart. From the kitchen staff to the front-line care aides, from the med techs to the management of the unit, everyone was helpful and caring. If you are looking for affordable memory care, I highly recommend Brookdale Beckett Meadows.
I am overwhelmed with care, in a positive way. I came here for care which I couldnt get in my home. The building is structured in a way that it gives the residents safety. The response time from the staff is very quick. There were occasions I had medical emergencies and the staff is skilled enough to know what do to. The food is extremely good and tasty with plenty of options to choose from. The service is very good! The maintenance and the housekeeping is excellent as well. If there is ever an issue in my apartment, they are fast to fix the problem. For a senior who needs care, I found this community to be an excellent choice.
There are no words to match my gratitude to the Brookdale Beckett front office staff and caregivers, but I will try. I contacted them as my 92 year old mom was ending her stay in skilled nursing after breaking a hip and Brookdaless director, Joe Eckert, and sales manager, Andy Hernandez, personally came by that same day to meet us and tell us about their Assisted Living Facility. This kind of care, empathy, and service lasted throughout my moms stay until she was able to return to her own home. The fact that she was able to become strong and confident enough to return home is a testament to the wonderful people that work at Brookdale Beckett. They were always patient with her (which can be quite difficult at tmes) and did their very best to answer any questions or address any issues that arose as quickly as possible. Brandy Willett, who mans the front desk, and is always going above and beyond, is one of the most helpful, kind, and amazing people and makes visitors and residents feel welcome every day. I visited at all times of the day and night and never witnessed or experienced anything but a warm, welcoming, homey, clean environment that was there to be of service to those who live there.
While visiting Brookdale I was blown away by the friendliness of their Staff, Nurses and Maintenance personnel. Brookdale is very nice and well maintained. The food was excellent and the passion the Chefs show in preparing their food is exceptional. Their attention to detail and their presentation of food is so appetizing. I would feel confident in enrolling my loved one in this facility and you should too.
Unless your loved one is in the final stage of dementia/alzheimer and only need a bed & food in a secure place, I would not recommend this facility. My mother-in-law has been there since April and we have been very disappointed. The staff turnover has been a big issue and they have been incapable of delivering what the management promises. On 12/5 I visited for about 1 1/2 hours and the only thing I saw the 2 (only) members of the staff doing, was serving afternoon snack of apple sauce and cranberry juice, and spraying air freshener, when alerted that someone was coming to tour the place. They did not engage the residents and interactions were pretty limited to snack service, which conveniently was pushed back to just before the visitor showed up. I overheard the sales guy saying that the residents day is jam packed with activities. Well, unless watching TV is an activity, this would be a complete lie! Again, despite the beautiful weather outside, the door to the courtyard was closed, even so the place sure could use some fresh air. I visit about once a week and the majority of the time, I find the residents parked in front of the TV, with the staff in the back, looking completely bored, unless they are on their phone...My MIL is getting weaker fast, as she is not getting enough physical activity. She sometimes has a little BO, as the staff seem unable to persuade her to take regular showers, just like they have been unable to comfort her when she gets upset when her husband takes off after a visit. Even replacing her hearing aid batteries has been an issue for the staff.Weve had a formal meeting with the management a few weeks ago, expressing our concerns. We were told that our concerns were valid and improvements will be made. Still waiting....
I had the opportunity to tour Beckett Meadows yesterday! It was so lovely. The garden was my favorite area, as it was so peaceful. I have worked with Andy Hernandez, the Sales Manager, and he is best. Seniors adore Andy and he knows everyone! I highly recommend working with him and Brookdale Beckett Meadows.
I toured the Beckett Meadows location not too long ago and was impressed with the atmosphere within the residence. The residents appeared happy and were actively engaged (I.e. with peers, staff, family, games, etc.). I had an opportunity to meet the dietary manager, who was very proud of her dish- especially the desert. This was supported by the few residents who were still eating or returning for seconds. The community was clean and felt very home-like. Joe Eckert and his friendly team seem to be doing stand up job in providing a positive culture for the residents, families, and one another.
My parents moved to Brookdale Beckett Meadows 3 months ago and I can’t say enough good things about this place! After having lived in several other facilities over the past 7 years, our family has found this one to be the perfect combination of friendly, professional and reasonably priced. The staff is what makes the difference and I am incredibly impressed with their administrative team and the caregivers working in assisted living with my dad and those in memory care helping my mom. The food is actually pretty good, too! The building is older but it is maintained well. Not the fanciest place around but it feels like home and the staff seem happy, which makes for happy parents.
I regularly take my middle school choir to sing at Brookdale Beckett Meadows 1-2 times a year. The facility is always very clean & well taken care of. The staff is also very helpful & always responds to my emails in a timely manner when we collaborate our visits to this facility. The residents are always so eager to hear my students sing for them.
My aunt has lived in this facility since the fall of 2015. She is very particular about many things but consistently tells us what a wonderful place we chose for her. She was a home economics teacher and has given the dietary services a high rating. She also was a librarian and enjoys the large library at Brookdale as well as the weekly outings to HEB. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and are quick to get back with me about any questions I might have. The only concern I have is that after hours it is difficult to get anyone to answer the phone (when my aunt accidentally leaves the phone off the hook) and the infrequent cleaning of her room.
I have visited Brookdale Becket on two different occasions trying to help a neighbor find an assisted living place. Unfortunately, it has never worked out for her but I was very impressed with the cleanliness and kindness of all the staff members. If I reach a time that I would need assisted living I would not hesitate to live here.
My grandmother recently relocated from another Brookdale location and the transition was super easy, the staff really friendly and helpful. Grandma seems to be adjusting well and they are taking good care of her. The community is clean, well taken care of and convenient.
My in laws were moved to the memory care section a year ago. Nice people but very poor closure on important problems such as: a) constantly loosing their clothes, we have spent hundreds of $s replacing them. We labeled every piece of clothing, they still lost those; Im buying all new Fluorescent green clothes! b) We found Mold in the bottom of their 2 drinking glasses they were using daily by their chairs. They dont even have a sink to wash things in the memory care section.Numerous other challenges.
Just saw the frontline piece on Emeritus and remembered what happened at Beckett:The family of a 91-year-old woman who froze to death last year after taking off from an assisted living centers secure Alzheimers unit sued the center and its parent company Monday in Travis County District Court. The family of Mabel Austin claims Emeritus Corp., owner of The Park at Beckett Meadows in Southwest Austin, cut staff so that only one aide was on duty to oversee the 18 residents of the Alzheimers unit. While the aide was helping another resident, Austin was able to crawl through a door and wasnt found until the next morning, her family claims. Not only must the family deal with their mothers horrible death, but the aide must live with the consequences of being put into what we have alleged was an impossible position -- too much to do and not enough help, says the familys attorney, David Bragg of Austin law firm Bragg Chumlea & McQuality PC.Brandon Erickson, executive director of Beckett Meadows, says he cant comment on specifics of the case because its pending in court. He says he has been in talks with Austins family since her death last Christmas and is continuing to review the matter. The company stands behind the team here at Beckett Meadows, and we are fully supportive of the Beckett Meadows staff and the good things they do for our seniors here in the community, Erickson says.Beckett Meadows is owned by Seattle-based Emeritus Corp. (AMEX: ESC). The company owns and manages 169 assisted living centers in 32 states, including more than 30 locations in Texas.
Twice, Brandon Erickson, the facility director, described this as an abusive workplace.I tried, over the course of months & months, to report abuse.I couldnt help change the wretched situation or move abusive reports away from the victims.I cried when I realized I could never have my mom there.DO YOU WANT MORE DETAILS? E-mails? How the shared bathrooms werent cleaned for a week. How I offered to clock-out for a 2 hour period in the middle of the night, just so I could clean toilets while the residents were at breakfast. How the levels of profanity and aggressive behavior were terrifying?Of course I talked to Emeritus hotline. It was just damage control for a corporation that would rather crush me like a bug than care about my mom.Should I go on? I found the facility mismanaged and horribly understaffed. But dont take my word for it, watch the Frontline report Living & Dying in Assisted Living. As for me, and the business managers falsification of my hire-on date, the money missing from my check? This is the part thats easy to prove.
This place really is unprofessional and not fit for my mother. Very understaffed. I recently had my mother in there for about a month her cholesterol is off the charts she has gained weight and medicine was not distributed properly. The caregivers are very sweet ladys except one they recently hired who wasnt really all there herself and was and still is very confused and slow my mother and many other residents did not want her in there rooms. The caregivers always try to tell there managers or nurses they see change in the resident they are caring for and they dont do anything about it till last minute. Yes I was very close with the caregivers who took care of my mother if I could just take some of them with me I would have that place just asks to much from them for such little pay. After I was told all the extra charges for trays delivered to the rooms, or meds being passed out, and laundry was to pay the employees more. Another resident told me they raised their rent because they were told it was for the employees. I dont like the way they treat my mother and the caregivers!!!!
Hand held American flags put out for the 4th of July still remain laying down in the dirt along the sidewalk out front. Ask them to please pick them up in respect for the flag and those that serve. Never made any effort to pick them up to this day. Shameful and they probably even have some veterans staying with them.Thank you Brookdsle Meadows! The next day after posting this the issue was resolved.I appreciate your effort to correct this.

2022-02-24Brookdale Beckett Meadows was a great place for my mom while living in Austin. Andy Hernandez welcomed us with open arms, made our tour amazing, answered all the questions and made our moving in and out experience amazing. He also took the time to develop a relationship with my Mom and she felt comfortable asking him for anything she needed. Gabriele was an amazing Physical therapist for my mom. She became a friend to mom and checked on her and helped her stay mobile. Sharon was the sweet person at the front desk and we just loved her. Overall our experience was great!

2022-03-31My mother-in-law recently moved into Becket Meadows and we are very pleased with her experience. The food is very good, much better than her former place. The staff are attentive and helpful. Beckett Meadows is clean and well kept with a beautiful courtyard. They were welcoming and glad to have her great grandchildren come in and enjoy the courtyard. They wanted her to truly feel like this was her home.

2022-01-10I visited Beckett Meadows twice and was hoping to move my in-laws here. Although they eventually chose somewhere closer to other relatives, I cant say enough good things about Andy Hernandez and all the help and advice he gave us. Beckett Meadows appears to be a safe, clean, and loving environment and I wouldnt hesitate to move a loved one there.

2022-06-13Just wanted to remark what an excellent staff you have in the Clare Bridge (memory care) unit. Each time I visit I notice one or more of them going out of their way to help and comfort the residents, most of whom need lots of assistance. No one is ever just sitting in a corner ignored. The staff are patient, friendly, kind, and helpful whenever I have a concern. Its a hard job and very stressful, especially these days. So thanks. You are appreciated.

2022-03-29My in laws lived here two years ago after multiple hospitalizations. We were felt rushed to get them in a facility where they’d be safe. Unfortunately we filled out paper work that was disguised as “emergency contact info”. It’s was in fact signing as a guarantors for my in laws. I’ve been a healthcare professional for over 20 years, currently working in a hospital. Not only were the bills confusing, there were charges for services my in laws weren’t receiving. I tried to meet with the healthcare nurse but she no showed about their “plan”. We tried to work with Director however made no progress with him either. They both passed away and we were left with bills we couldn’t pay. Brookdale sued us and we were charged the total amount, Court fees, their attorney fees and interest. In my opinion they are dishonest, provide subpar services and will rob your loved one blind. Please read everything line by live they give. Ask to participate in the care plan. Know what they charge for. I hope no one has to go through what we did. Hopefully no seniors are paying their own bills because if so they are likely being taken advantage of.

2021-01-21My dad was there over a year -- in fact we moved him from one of the newer places to Brookdale Beckett Meadows. He was very happy there and mom visited every evening. He wasnt much of a joiner for activities but mom would attend. The staff was kind and caring! And we are still in touch with Andy Hernandez who is just amazing! We moved dad back home -- it was too hard for my parents with the virus not being able to visit and watch TV together in the evenings.

2021-01-21We are so happy to find a “home” for our 102 (soon to be 103) year old mom at Brookdale Beckett Meadows. They are so warm and friendly and easy to deal with. Our mom is always telling us “these people are so sweet and good to me here”, which is so comforting to hear. It is a hard decision to make when you are looking for a place to put your loved ones, but we feel we’ve found a great place for her. We would recommend them to anyone.

2020-06-30Until his unfortunate passing, my father spent a considerable amount of time within the Memory Care unit at Brookdale Beckett Meadows and my family couldnt have asked for a better situation in the latter stages of his life. Always treating him as one of their own, the entire staff is knowledgeable and thoroughly attentive while fostering a cultivating, engaging environment for all their residents. It goes without saying that I highly recommend you consider this home for your special loved ones and continue the family atmosphere of unity and care.

2021-01-21Our mom has been here a bit over a year now and is in much better shape than when she arrived. Not to say that this past crazy year hasnt brought setbacks, but the management and staff have worked very hard and are quick to respond when we have a situation arise. We could mention certain individuals who stand out to us, but each team member carries their own value and sense of caring, so we will just give a big thank you for the peace of mind we have overall and trust that these certain team members not mentioned by name will know who they are.
