I saw Dr. Cowen in Georgetown today with her assistant, Lauri. I was pleasantly surprised that she was a woman and not a man. She was very thorough and down to earth. She cracked a few jokes with us and made me feel as ease, even though she was a new doctor to us. I was impressed with how prepared she was about my husband’s Mri and her treatment plan moving forward. She’s a sweetheart.
After experiencing pain over 8 months going to doctors and them referring me to pain specialist for relief and then going and for her to tell me there’s nothing she can do till all the work up is completed other than give me inflammation medicine without even hearing what I had to say even showing proof she treated me as if I was there only to get pain medication. I told her ““ I am here to get relief of my pain. She stated there’s nothing she can do. I simply said why did you waste my time and money if that’s all you gonna tell me. I’ve been told this a specialist and I sure didn’t need to hear it again just to pay specialist price what a rip off
I had my first appointment today with Dr.Church. Having recently moved from Dallas I was in need of a pain management doctor. The experience I had with Dr.Church and his team was great. He explained treatment options and he came up with a plan that fits my needs. Being an old man that has had more than my fair share of Doctors over the years this visit was at the top. I highly recommend Dr.Church.
I came here for the Axon treatment this morning and after the first treatment I was able to feel a difference in my pain level. The staff here are so professional and courteous, and attentive to your needs. They care about you, not just the patient, but you the person and I was highly impressed. They took the time to carefully explain each procedure and what to expect. I have been to other pain management organizations, and what I experienced was how to mask the problem with opioid therapy, rather than finding the source of my pain and then a solution. Here at Capital pain Institute, they were about finding the solution and discussing various treatment options. Im happy to have found this place and will continue to come here.
Oh my goodness! If you’re looking for a pain clinic, look no further- seriously! This place is very nice- Shoutout to Dr. Church, what a kind, extremely smart, and understanding doctor. I have only had one appointment, and the staff has been so sweet and helpful.I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in April, and it has really knocked me down. I have joint pain that is indescribable, and can barely walk most days.I tried a different pain clinic before landing here with Dr. Church, and wish I would’ve started care with him in the first place! They have such a beautiful office as well!
My experience with capital pain Institute has been wonderful. Their Staff is always very responsive and attentive to my needs. My providers; Dr. Amasha and Sarah Zoeller really seem to have have the pulse on my healthcare needs and have helped me resume an active healthy lifestyle and Improve my overall quality of life. I’m truly grateful for their compassionate care. I would recommend Capitol Pain Institute to anyone who is Struggling with chronic pain desiring to improve their quality of life.
Dr.Amasha is very firm but gentle and kind at the same time. He answers questions and listens to the answers. While I know and understand I am his patient but he treats me like a person, and individual. His staff is the top-of-the-line. They are kind, courteous and very responsive. I drive 3 hours to see him and I wouldnt change for a more convenient distance. Most important he is a very good doctor. I have cut pain Rx by 2/3ds.I can move again, go fishing & work in my garden😁!
Dr. Amasha is a dedicated and excellent pain doctor. He always puts the patient’s wellbeing as top priority. Capital Pain Institute has managed my pain for almost 6 years now and Dr. Amasha has helped me understand my pain and performed procedures to improve my mobility!
Dr. Church is a rare find these days. His bed side manner, compassion, and patience is everything you look for in a Dr. I came to him very sick and he has just been such a blessing for us with trusting him with my medication. I promise you he is everything you look for and more in a Dr.
I saw several people for the first 3-4 months. One day -Mallorie (Nurse Practitioner) came in and we discussed the multiple health issues and what is or isn’t working to control my pain levels. She listens and is absolutely wonderful to work with! Coming up with alternatives that can help. I feel like *I am a part of my treatment*. The guidance of the Mallorie and the physician has been helpful.
The Doctors and staff are great, very friendly and welcoming. Always take the time to listen and do everything possible to care for you. I have been in Dr.Shocketts care for a few years and my health has improved consistently and he’s always puts his best work in caring for you.
I have been a patient for several years at Capital Pain Institute and have always had a welcoming and informative experience during my office visits. Sherry is an amazing nurse and is quick to respond to patients needs. Mallorie is an amazing practitioner and has always presented many options for my pain management care. Having support and care from Capital Pain Institute has made a very positive impact on my life and I highly recommend them for any of your pain management needs.
Doctor Cowan and her staff have all been so knowledgeable of their duties and very friendly. I have been her patient for over a year. When Im in her office I feel like I am her only patient.I have COPD and I feel very uncomfortable with sedation. The nursing staff and anesthesiologist make me feel comfortable with the sedation and that they would be able to handle any breathing problem should it arise.I drive from the Huntsville area for my appointments. I wouldnt drive that far for just any Doctor.Ron S.
My visit was absolutely comfortable and resolution based. My anticipation was somewhat bothersome because visiting Capitol Pain Institute came about in my being transferred because the pain group I was with, the doctor retired and I felt I had to start all over at a beginning stage, but however the care I received was attentive, focusing on my situation and meeting my needs. I am very pleased. Research, testing as well as other attempts are rendered to classify and treat my condition. Capitol Pain Institute cares, I would recommend them to anyone that needs management for their pain. I thank the entire staff for their expertise.
Have seen some negative reviews about Capitol Pain, but my wife has had a completely different experience with Dr. Schocket and his excellent care team, particularly Selina Gawriluk. These folks really care about their patients and go the extra mile. Their administrative staff has improved immensely over the past six months and provide excellent customer service. Highly recommended!
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Schocket and CPI for more than 11 years for care of spinal cord damage after an awful car accident. I cannot string enough compliments together that would convey the amazing care they have provided throughout the years. While most of the patients at CPI are struggling with movement and pain, I feel as if the physicians and care providers treat my pain as if I was their only patient and my pain was unique. Every visit I’m treated as if it were my first visit; very thorough ensuring that we cover every area of damage and how the medication is working.I recommend CPI for those who are seeking more than just pain relief. They work to get to the root of the pain and work harder to find permanent solutions rather than just give you a list of pills.
Every time I come to CPI, I am given attention immediately by all the staff. I am not sitting around long and once Im in a room, my doctor does not take long to follow. Everyone is polite, professional as well as personable. They listen to you and assist in any way possible. I am not a big fan of going to the doctor but with the care I receive from the staff and doctors at CPI, I am very comfortable being there. Kudos to all who work at CPI.
I saw Dr. Blauzvern in 2017 for a very, very painful sciatica issue in my left hip and leg. He imploded a cyst, that was the culprit, with an injection of dye. He kept me out of surgery, walking without a cane, and PAIN FREE!I saw Dr. Blauzvern again today after an MRI showed a new cyst that had established itself on my right side, resulting in another very, very painful sciatica issue. Being the professional that he is, Dr. Blauzvern fully explained to me (in laymen terms) that it was not safe for him to initiate the same procedure that he performed in 2017. He did however, prescribe some medicine specifically designed for nerve pain (it worked!) and gave me names of three different doctors he felt confident could fix my problem.Chronic, severe pain like sciatica is a debilitating, life altering condition. Capitol Pain Institute is the company to see for such an issue. You just know that you are in good hands when you see the doctor. You just know that they are sincere with their approach to help you. You just know that you have come to the right place.....Capitol Pain Institute.
After being recommended to visit with Dr.Desai. I was very excited for our conversation about my needs. Dr Desai was very encouraging and educated on the pros and cons. I loved that she listened and then asked questions and was genuinely interested. That I wasn’t just another patient she needed to have a conversation with then move to the next. I was very comfortable talking about my unusual situation with her. She reassured she would do her best to take care of what I was needing. Also the girls in the office were ABOVE AND BEYOND with there patient service. They made the process soooo easy and NO stress. I highly recommend Dr.Desai !!
Dr Church and his excellent staff go above and beyond for their patients. When I became very sick and had to be hospitalized for an unexpected illness, Dr. Church made sure that all of my pain management needs going home were met post surgery eventhough it was the weekend. I highly recommend Capitol Pain Institute to anyone. They deliver total, compassionate care both physically and emotionally. They set the standard all others should emulate.
Dr. Amasha is amazing! I am a retired R.N. and I’m very careful when I choose a doctor. His knowledge and professional conduct is the best, I would give more stars if available. He truly cares about his patients welfare, he treats us (my husband and myself) like family and he makes sure he does everything available to him to keep us as healthy as possible. I hope he stays here for as long as we need him, anyone else would be a letdown. The staff is friendly and efficient. We have a 45 minute drive to get to the clinic, but we would travel as far as necessary to get there.
I first started seeing Dr. Shockett around 2016 and have had nothing but the greatest experience with him and his PAs. Ive been to other clinics and instead of listening they would just write everything off. EVERY Doctor and PA that Ive seen within 5 years has listened, understood, and sincerely just cared about my over all wellbeing. I wouldnt recommend any other clinic for Pain Management than Capitol Pain Institute. One of the best things that the VA has ever done for me is refer me to CPI and Im truly grateful.-10 year United States Army Combat Veteran-20 Years of Construction-Herniated Disc L5-S1-Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
I will never return to this place again. First of all I went back to Dr. Shockett because I had used him about 10 years ago for cervical spine pain before I finally gave in and had a fusion. Things have changed 100°. First of all I went in with the pain rating of 8 to 10, most to be in sciatica All he wanted to do is schedule me for a procedure. He gave me 12 pain pills to get by.. During my procedure it took 10 sticks for my sedation. One nurse even got angry during the chaos of getting my IV started and practically accused me of being an IV drug abuser. She asked me why I would go through so much for just a short period of the feeling of IV pain drugs. I reported that right then and right there when the unit manager came to help start my IV. Anyway ,after the steroid injection I got approximately 10 days of relief. When I called back they assured me they would get me in as soon as they could for another procedure and said they would call me in a few more pain pills. I was told they didn’t have another procedure time for about a month. They never called the pain in and continue to call me to set up a procedure again.( I assumed they had a cancellation ) I work Night and missed the call.. And when you call back you can’t get through to the extensions they give you. Then came the hateful phone calls after I left a message about my medicine in which I was crying because I was In so much pain. They just didn’t get it that I could not get through except an extension to The procedure scheduling lady. I left two messages with her and she never got back. I started figuring out that doctor Shockett, who cared tremendously about my pain 10 years before and would prescribe me medication to keep me out of pain without a problem. I don’t know how somebody can call their self a pain management practice when they want to give you 12 Norco at a time and it’s all about the high dollar epidural procedures .... I have not been on pain medication since my cervical fusion. I felt very much like I was treated like a drug seeker even when I wanted conscious sedation. With all that being said I will never feel so degraded as to go back there and be treated like that. I feel it’s all about the big money they can get from you and your insurance for the very expensive procedures that take all of about five minutes !!!!Moral to the story is if you want somebody that truly cares about your pain, stay far far away from this place. !!!!!!!!!!After $750 for 10 days of relief
Very impressed with Dr Cowan, Wendy (assistant) and Prerna (Clinic Supervisor & scheduler).Dr Cowan has developed an excellent and professional medical team that you can readily tell are truly interested in patient welfare. This was my first visit and I walked away feeling lucky to be assigned to Dr Cowans medical team.
Capitol pain has helped me lower my pain for sometime now. The front staff are always friendly and helpful and the doctors and PAs listen and understand what Im dealing with day to day.Never a long wait. I would highly recommend CPI to everyone that needs competent health care. Its here.Thank you CPI
Their physician visit side is horrible and their surgery center side is good. I dont know why the 2 sides of this business is so different, but they are. I work in healthcare and noticed fraudulent/shady billing for their routine urine testing. Pay X upfront or gamble that your insurance may not pay and then youll pay a much, much higher price. This is horrible. They do these tests constantly (in house) and know what insurances pay. They also have the ability to check benefits instantly for other things....this is a scam. Also you will notice they say things like: we cant see you for 2 things on one visit because we cannot bill your insurance. They make you set up 2 appointments so they can bill more. When I discovered they were doing shady billing for urine samples - the bill went from $150 to around $15. They also lied to me about why my medicine were never called in one Friday. This left me in pain for 3 days (they dont answer the phone on weekends). On one visit, they absolutely refused to see me because I was 5 minutes past their 15 minute cut off - that day I had to get Covid screened outside and wait on somebody in front of me to officially check in. This took the extra 5 minutes but I was told they would not see me. If you try to call their office, their phone system is horrible and it takes forever to reach the right person or get a call back.I dont like to do bad reviews but in this case, I am because I complained to their owner by email and he ignored me. No shock. I noticed that it is ok to ask me or other patients to wait up to 45 minutes to see them but we cant be late past their 15 minute deadline or our appointment is cancelled. I have an issue with providers in healthcare that have no compassion. Dont be fooled - this institute does not care or their management needs some serious training on how to fix all of these issues. It is not hard to be caring. People in healthcare can be callous sometimes as they see sick and hurt people all day long, but they must constantly be reminded their profession is to care and do it well. I dont have complaints about my other providers as they do have compassion on the sick or hurt. This is a pain institute but the owner(s) are greedy and self serving and their strict and foolish policies dont allow their staff to have compassion or make exceptions when they should. I would find another pain institute if I were you. If you dont you will soon find out how right I am.
I couldnt be any happier with the good people working at Capitol Pain Institute. Dr. Amasha is a great doctor who listened to me as I told him what my issues were. He was a wealth of information and explained to me in detail on what I needed to do to get healthy. His aid, Natasha Pena, went above and beyond while working with my insurance company to make sure my care and medications were covered. She was friendly and helpful every step of the way and took the time to keep me informed of the progress she was making and what was needed to complete the process. I had a very pleasurable experience with Capitol Pain Institute.
I’ve been a patient for some time and I’m very appreciative of the partnership with the physicians and staff. It’s great having a medical team listen to your needs to create an effective treatment plan. They have excellent communication (in a very timely manner) and always follow through on commitments. A number of times they’ve gone above and beyond when dealing with insurance company delays/issues and took action to ensure my treatment wasn’t affected - can’t overstate how fantastic this type of support is to a patient!
Ive been coming to Capitol Pain Institute for about 8 years. I have never had a bad visit. Dr. Amasha, Dr. Zoeller & all their staff are super nice & so courteous! Ive been to other pain management doctors & they do not even com close to the customer service or compassion for their patients like Capitol Pain Institute. I highly recommend this office 😊
I have been going to Capital Pain for a few months after extensive back surgery. I was sure the pain may never go away but after working with Dr Amasha all of a sudden the pain let up and I was able to get off opioids!!!!! I and my doctor are very happy. Dr did one round of injections which took a while to work but they helped tremendously! So pleased to say I’m off opioids!!! Thank you Dr Amasha and staff!!
Dr. Raimy Amasha of Capitol Pain Institute has very little regard for his patient’s lives outside of his office, or possibly, certain patients. It’s not clear to me. What does seem clear is the fact that he does make sure he has the means to collect his patients payments at all times. Don’t get me wrong, this is what any smart business man does, however I’m not convinced his 1st priority is to serve the needs of patients fully. Does he evaluate his patients as a whole? Patients go to see their doctors with hope that he or she will provide the means for a better quality of life. It’s not just about the ailment/diagnosis. And any biases a doctor has personally, should have no influence on their decisions to provide treatment. This is a rule of ethics. My husband had an appointment to see Dr. Amasha, but instead he sees his nurse, since Dr. Amasha was in surgery that day. My husband explains to the nurse his ongoing issue of radiating back pain & the severity of it. The previously intermittent pain he c/o is now constant & interfering with his ability to do his job daily. Also, his pain scale, which she never asked, is now ranging from 7-10 out of 10 with OTC meds & his urgency to urinate is frequent. He leaves the appointment w/ no prescribed meds & describes how dismissive the nurse was toward his complaints. Dr. Amasha later in the day calls in a prescription for an opioid, but now there’s another issue. Although the opioids will help with his pain, his job will not allow him to work while using this medication. It’s a state law in fact. This is actually no problem, because he can work through this issue & get the necessary help he needs by going out on short term leave insurance. The doctors approval is needed for this.So my husband contacts Dr. Amasha’s office again to explain this & talks to some nurse/assist who explains that basically Dr. Amasha doesn’t do that. In fact she says, Dr. Amasha says it’s not his job to put patients out of work. (Huh???) Dr. Amasha instead orders a Capacity exam, equivalent to a Worker’s Comp exam to determine if he can work. Mind you, my husband is not a new patient w/ Dr. Amasha & he’s had several tests & scans completed, as well as numerous office visits to confirm his condition.Reminder: Dr Amasha put him on Opioids because he knows the extent of his condition & his pain. He also determined that surgery is needed. So why does he need this exam? My husband reached out to an Advocate Nurse for help, explained his situation & she was confused as well.Understand the ripple effect that could occur:- Dr. Amasha does not provide an excuse for short term leave.- My husband will have to use PTO for the days he’s off.- When PTO runs out, he won’t get paid.- If he doesn’t get paid, how does he provide?- If he can’t go back to work soon enough, his job could disqualify him.- If he gets disqualified, he could possibly lose his job- If he loses his job, he loses his insurance.- If he loses his insurance, he can’t go to the doctor.- If he can’t go to the doctor, he can’t treatment or surgery. This is easy for any rational minded person to understand!Dr. Amasha is the leader of his office & sets the tone for his staff. This tendency to disregard patients & their issues is an ugly flaw. I understand they see all types of patients, on a daily basis; some who complaint a lot, some who complaint little, some even lie. I imagine that eventually they’ve been desensitized & subconsciously developed some sort of radar system to judge their patients. As I stated before, any biases one has personally, should have no influence on their decisions to provide treatment. Patients should not be made to feel like you don’t care or don’t trust them!If my husband was misjudged for some liar trying to get out work & abuse Opioids, then you’re clearly mistaken! You Dr. Amasha & your entire staff all need some additional training on integrity & operating from an ethical stance. This is just as important, if not more then, as treating your patient’s conditions.
I have been going to capital pain institute for about 3 years and in those 3 years I have not had any problem. Everyone at the front is very polite to all the patients, there always eager to help patients as they enter the door. They answer all of your questions in a timely manner, there always smiling. I would say continue doing an awesome job to the patients. If you called and left a message they calls you back in a timely manner and take care of you. Keep up the great work that each of you are doing and keep smiling even if youre not feeling well. I am ecstatic to be a patient.
My experience with Capital Pain, and specifically Dr. Jonathan Church, is exceptional! As a long time Healthcare provider myself, and a chronic pain patient for more than 18 years, I have experienced the good and the worst pain management physicians available. I admit my standards are high, but Dr. Church exceeds my expectations!I admit, I had NEVER experienced such exceptional knowledge, thorough clinical expertise, and genuine empathy all in the sameprovider until my visit with Dr. Church!I am not an easy patient, as I suffer from more than 4 autoimmune disorders. With the Opiate Crisis, many physicians have become fearful of treating true medically induced pain. There were some practices in Texas which were questionable and had become pill mills for those with substance abuse/addiction issues. However, many patients remain lwho have true medically induced pain, and deserve pain management! I had given up on finding an ethical, skillful, knowledgeable, and compassionate specialist....,..until I found Dr Church! If you are looking for an exceptional Pain Management physician, who will partner with you in achieving evidence-based, compassionate treatment, I highly recommend Dr Church! My consultation with Dr. Church, restored something I had long lost......hope! Hope for finding cutting edge treatment strategies which actually MANAGE the excruciating pain!
My experience for the first five years at pain management was fantastic Dr Amasha was and is the most compassionate loving caring smartest doctor I’ve ever had he is on top of things!!!! He hired a new nurse last year Natasha there is no reason for her to treat me the way she does!! She is rude spiteful and I could say a lot more but I won’t because I love and respect my relationship I have with Dr Amasha and the rest of the staff they are the best!!!
I have had a great experience here. I switched from central Texas pain because I felt I wasn’t getting the care I needed. Dr. Doll found I had a hip fracture on my first visit, something my old doctor overlooked. She’s great. Down to earth. She recommends what is BEST for your treatment and won’t do stuff that isn’t needed. I am happy I changed doctors. I don’t feel like I have to look into what’s in my medical records here. I recommend capital pain
I have had chronic pain for many years. I have gone to multiple specialists, had every test imaginable and in worse pain than ever. I have just started seeing Dr Church. All I can say is that he really listens to me as a patient. He is the unicorn in the land of doctors because he listens and hears you. That is a major component on the road to pain relief. He takes his time to look through tests and suggest options, explaining his logic and how it will help pain relief. I would recommend him to anyone that is seeking pain relief. The office staff makes it easy to set up an appointment and communicate with as they have some sort of cool texting system. (Don’t abuse it lol) But in all seriousness, your pain relief quest will be on the right path by seeing Dr Church. He is a kind, intelligent and compassionate warrior for pain relief.
Wish there was an option for NO STARS. Im glad that there are people that this practice seems to have helped. My experience here was nothing but negative. They bought out the practice that had cared for me for years. It broke my heart to lose Richard Todd as my provider. My first meeting was with dr.cowan and her np. She walks in the room, starts spewing questions. Cuts my meds by one third, and asks me if my muscle relaxer only makes me feel good or does it really help? I should have realized at that moment that this woman really didnt give a thought as to how I have managed during the 20 plus years that Ive been dealing with this.Ive had 7 lumbar and cervical spine surgeries.I realize I will never be pain free. I ve had just about every procedure (nerve ablations, botox, epidural steroids and on and on.) She appeared to think that my previous providers had done nothing to help me. Wanted to do another ablation on my neck. I had to cancel that apt, as I had no transportation, although the schedule said I could just have a local . No thanks. She ordered an MRI. She did not believe me when I told her that I do require a bit of sedation. This was suggested by the physician that read my first MRI years ago. Soooo, I had the pleasure of having to REPEAT the MRI. An incidental finding on that MRI was that I have bilateral tumors in my Adrenal glands. This WAS NOT MENTIONED to me when her NP went over the results of my MRI. I stayed with these people through June. Switched practices to where my previous Doctor is. They have been a light at the end of the tunnel for me. 4 out the 6 times I saw cpmi I had a drug screen. ( I understand the need for uds, but Ive never failed one and generally had 2 a year. )They shut down the Round Rock office, but didnt bother to tell me. I worked as an RN for 41years. I functioned well, worked my butt off for many years while suffering hideous pain. These providers made me feel like a pos. Gotta say the medical assistants were truly great. It was the providers that were no help at all. Let me just add, I recently had another back injury, caused by low blood pressure. I sat down HARD, and am scheduled for another MRI. The Neurosurgeon PA believes I have a compression fracture. My new Pain Management PA, took the time to REVIEW the MRI that dr.cowan ordered, and asked me if Id ever been told about the tumors on my adrenals ? Nope! It could also explain my blood pressures highs and lows. Just saying. As I sit here thinking several hours after my last edit, I have one more little tidbit to add. This practice charged Medicare over $500.00 dollars for each of my 15 minute visits with a mid level provider. At my previous practice ( which they bought out, ) I paid $ 45.00 ish out of pocket when I went from COBRA after retiring from Seton. I wonder why the discrepancy? Interesting. AND Im wondering how much $ they get from the many drug screens they do to LOW RISK PATIENTS such as myself. SMH.So, heres a little addendum to my review. I DO have a compression fracture. I feel like these people just look down on those of us that do suffer from chronic pain. I can assure yall that Im NOT a whiney, wimp. I have worked through broken bones, fractured ankle and elbow for 2 weeks before I decided was time to get it checked out ( required surgery.) Ive been hurting so badly since this new fracture, but kept up with my normal routine which includes going to Arlington every other week to be sure my mother has help. My husband and I rotate weeks. Anyway, sorry about the lengthy post, I feel so positive about returning to my former docs. Also feeling frustrated and in pain. Take care all. Again, Im glad that some of yall did get some relief and good results.Addition to review above. LOL. I bet you would like to speak to me. Ill give you a call as soon as I figure out the follow up for those 2 pesky little tumors in my Adrenal glands. That will be later this week, after the kyphoplasty for my fx. L2 in the morning. Sad that my new PA had to tell me about BOTH of these issues Yall FAILED.Ciao!
Virtual visits can be weird sometimes but I’m pleased with the experience I had. Dr.Desai addressed all of my questions and needs. She is understanding and informative when it comes to recommending new treatments for me to try. I am confident that she will continue working to find the right treatment for me until I am satisfied and pain free.
I have been seeing Dr. Amasha (and occasionally his NP) monthly for years now. I have always been treated respectfully and have felt as though they really listened and would take any clinically appropriate measures to help relieve my pain. I truly feel cared for at CPI. Thank you CPI, I really dont believe that I would still be able to work full time without the treatment Ive received at your facility. What a blessing!
My experience at Capital Pain Institute on Shoal Creek Pkwy. Dr. Desai at first was professional for the 1 time I saw her after that she started sending me other doctors I didn’t even know. I chose her for the doctor and I saw every doctor except her. They are very unprofessional I have never seen a clinic this way in my entire life. It’s all about the money to her she doesn’t care anything about the patient not at all. They change policies like everyday living. I had to dismiss this place I wouldn’t tell my worst enemy about this place. I wouldn’t recommend this place to no one. Further more they decided not to send me my medication 1 day before they changed policies so I didn’t get my medicine. They wanted me to come in again and pay another co-pay before I could get my medicine. I told them to keep it even though I am in severe pain I can’t deal with these people anymore. Now you won’t be able to change my pharmacy again. Terrible place don’t go here.
Perhaps other doctors are fantastic but my experience with Dr. Desai and Nisha have been quite the opposite. My very first appointment I made it clear that I was going to her because I wanted to be acknowledged and wanted someone to take my injuries serious. I was on 2 different types of morphines prior to going to her office. I ensured my medical records reached their office before my 1st visit. It is over 10 yrs worth of testings, treatment, diagnosis and so on. The very first visit she asked how I felt about changing my medicine to a much lower class of opiates. If I was a druggie or anything related to that I would have said no and refused to change my medication. I was open to new treatment and I agreed. Let me tell you, that should have been red flag #1 but I didnt see it then. How do you just alter medications without really looking at someones injuries and medical history? That month was hell. I called her several times because the medication was not working and I was in severe pain. What did I get told by Dr. Desai? Wait another week and then call back. I have the L4 and L5 disks bulging along with other things. Those who know the type of injury can know how difficult it is to live with those injuries. Being a Marine, showing weakness is out of the question. Those who know me will know I am not emotional or cry. Each visit I have felt disregarded and ignored. I stopped calling because I know all I am going to get told each time is Wait a week and then call back. It is now over 7 months later and I am no longer able to perform basic living functions. I have missed work because the pain is so severe, I am incapable of walking up or downstairs. My last visit I saw Nisha and she was well, excuse my language, a B with an itch. She disregarded my back pain and said nothing justified my leg pain to even be on medication. Seriously? Even Google knows having injuries on the L4 & L5 disks have pain that radiate down to the hip and leg. They have my medical history, I have been open to their treatment. What more do they want? Because at this point I have spent many nights without sleep. The pain is too much for me to the point to where I am in tears. Is that the kind of treatment others should experience? No. Being disregarded, talked down to and left in pain is not something someone should experience or expect from any Dr. let alone a pain management doctor. I dont like to write reviews unless it was a phenomenal experience or just a horrific one. Take it from a Marine. Go elsewhere to seek medical treatment. I am sure your enemy would have more compassion on you than Dr. Desai and Nisha.
I had severe neck pain when I saw Dr Patel. Within a few minutes he diagnosed the issue and administered several injections that gave me immediate relief. He arranged a stat MRI that evening and administered epidural injections the next morning giving me complete relief.
I receive excellent professional guidance from the medical assistant and the nurse practitioner at Capital Pain Institute in Austin TX. They are dedicated to their work and are truly interested in the health progress of their patients. They do all they can do to keep the patients informed and educated on the changes iin schedules due to the covid 19 pandemic. I appreciate their expertise.
I just completed my initial consultation with Dr. Schocket and his NP, Mallorie, and it was great. They took the time to listen to my detailed back history, asked probing questions, and answered all of mine. I got a strong sense that they have empathy for their patients and I am entering into their treatment protocol with hope, which can be a rare thing for folks like me experiencing chronic pain.
I work with Selina G. She is a P. A.I have autoimmune disease that is very complicated. Selina has truly saved my life and offers more than pharmaceuticals solution to pain. Selina works together as a team to treat you. I trust her medical opinion. Sometimes Selina will suggest a different route then just more pain medication. She is also respects that your pain is real. Her knowledge in pain management is invaluable.Angela P.
The BEST pain management in the Austin Metro area. Have been with them for six years (have been to several with bad experiences). You get in promptly. I have never had longer than a ten minute wait. All of the doctors and staff have the best and empathetic bedside manner. The doctors never rush you. They listen and address all of your medical needs and concerns, and answer all of your questions, thoroughly. The staff are focused on their job and YOU. I have never heard them carrying on amongst each other about anything but their job.Any low ratings are likely from those who probably didnt genuinely need pain management. They do DO initial, regular, and random drug testing. It had nothing to do with not trusting their patients. It is for the benefit of all of their patients.
When making appointment the scheduler went to extra lengths to help me with my new insurance to know what my costs would be.I was able to get an appointment quickly. Check-in was easy & all COVID precautions were taken. LOVED that they had “The Office” on TV in waiting room!I was seen promptly - Dr. Desai was very thorough in her history taking & has a nice manner.
I had a visit with Sarah yesterday and she was extremely informative and Alyssa is as well. I love the nurse practitioner and staff. They are very friendly and like a breath of fresh air compared to other Dr offices and Priscilla as well is great. Keep doing what you are doing because you all rock!!
Dr. Church is AMAZING! I came in over 6 months ago barely able to walk and using a cane. I was in SO much pain in my left hip and lower back. Now, I’m able to walk like a 20 year old. He was really diligent to find the exact source of my pain and then was able to address it successfully.
Its difficult to even find the words at how disappointing and humiliating my experience was with Dr. Desai. She truly needs to examine whether she should even work with patients if she treats others how she treated me. I had some acute pain but I was also hoping to discuss all my pain issues in order to be proactive about osteoarthritis in other areas before winter hits. It was my impression that a pain management doctor should be interested be in the whole picture of a patients pain. When I tried to discuss, she interrupted me rudely and didnt even try to come back to those other issues after discussing my acute areas. She lacks the necessary empathy a pain management doctor should have in my opinion. Perhaps she would be better suited for a career in pathology where she doesnt have to worry about patients that talk about their pain.
Dr. Desai is awesome she never fails to actually listen!! I went into her office for a procedure yesterday because I was having trouble walking due to intense pain in my lower back and legs. This morning, Im able to walk without the intense pain. I cant thank her enough!
The doctors are caring individuals with your best interest at heart. They are good listeners and determine what is best for you medically. You might not like what they decide yet keep in mind these doctors know what they are doing. Dr. Shockett is the best doctor all around.
As you can see I do not post many reviews, but after my experience I felt like sharing. Since the Affordable Care Act past, I have been a self pay patient. I know how to screen a doctors office. I scheduled an appointment and met with 1 of the doctors. I paid $220. We discussed the costs, and it was recommended to get an MRI, which I did. When I went back to discuss the MRI and get a fixed costs, I was told that it would be another $220. I asked them to confirm with the doctor, because that is not what I was told. The receptionist confirmed there would be a charge. The clinic seems more concerned about profits then patient care. What medical facility have you been to that a consultation does not include what the costs are going to be?I am always happy to pay for someones expert advice. This clinic just lost $2500 cash, and did not have to worry about insurance companies beating them up. Seems like a really good profit for a few hours of work. It is medical firms like this that are driving up the healthcare costs by over billing insurance companies...and in this case self pay patients.
My husband and I have been long time chronic pain patients and both have pain pumps implanted. We saw Dr. Cowen. I could’ve cried after she talked with us. We’re getting new pictures of our backs and she talked to us about treatment we haven’t been talked to about. She gave me hope & for my husband too. It’s been a long time since we’ve felt like a doctor could actually help us do better. She told me I looked younger than my age and I liked that too!
I have to say I was pretty reluctant to go after reading the reviews, but I was seen by Dr.Cowan and I feel hope that my back pain will actually get better. She was able to identify the activities that caused me more back pain and talked to me about the narrowing in my spine. I’m considering the device she mentioned that would help me. She did decrease my narcotics, but added something to help with the numbness in my legs. I haven’t felt like a doctor has genuinely cared about helping me until now.
I was involved in a skiing accident that shattered both wrists and damaged right leg and knocked out allot of teeth. Began having severe abdominal pain diagnosed as chronic recurrent pancreatitis. After dozens of hospital admissions for pain control with demerol morphine dilaudid and admissions to multiple university hospitals it was determined that i alsohave AIP which has no cure. This causes severe abdominal pain. Symptoms include psychological problems including depression. After at least 100 emergency room visits in 3 states was not one time denied pain medication. A few years later i was introduced to a great doctor at Pain Management Consultants who took an aggressive step to stop the cycle of hospital life. He was successful and my life returned to some normalcy. I entered his officebroke jobless and homeless. Twenty three years later I am thriving with21 plus years at my job. During this time i had zero failed drug screens or pill counts. I am 62 years old and have been supported by pain meds for33 years. My doctor retired and Capitol Pain took over for my DR. My first visit I was told that there were no records of my case and that my Dr was incompetent. Then the reciting of the opioid deaths which had zero to do with me. He told me he needed records and that I would not be getting these meds under his watch. All of this within minutes of meeting me for the first time. He said that cutting of my meds would be cruel. ON the way out the door instructed the nurse to chop my antidepressant despite claiming to know nothing of my case. After a few weeks no calls from the office and when I called was told that he was stopping 3medications that i had been on for a quarter century. The he did just that. No plan just stopped. No come on in for followup just a person on the phone giving me this news. I have been seen by every specialist known to man and he suggested i need a heme Dr. My review contains no opinions as to avoid the, you have your opinion speech. Now for my CDC report copied from the CDC itselfMisapplication of recommendations of populations outside the guidelines scope. CDC does not support sudden discontinuation of opiods. This practice can result in severe opioid withdrawal including pain and pyschological distress. In addition policies that mandate hard line conflictwith the guidelines emphasis on individual assessment of benefits and risks given specific circumstances and unique needs of each patient. I need help if anyone out there can guide me. I am suffering all of the above.
These folks wasted my time and $45 copay because their billing department neglected to tell the schedulers that the surgery center where they do procedures is out of network for my plan (UHC). Meaning I’d have to pay thousands out of pocket for the procedures. I liked Dr. Church, but believe the reviews that say their staff is unorganized. $45 is a lot of money to me right now, let alone thousands. Frustrating waste of time!
I saw Dr. Cowen & her assistant Vivian in Georgetown. She told me Vivian was there to type everything out she was saying so she could just focus on me. I’ve got to say that I loved the attention that sweet little doctor gave me. I left her office feeling more of a pep in my step, which has not been too preppy lately. She’s given me hope. I haven’t had that in a long time. I read her reviews and that’s why I’m writing this one. She’s such a sweetheart going after where my pain comes from instead of trying to cover it up with medications. I already take too many. I’m really looking forward to seeing that sweet lady doctor again.
I have been with Dr. Schocket for almost 10 years now for multiple issues. I couldn’t rate him or his staff high enough. Although, now I usually go to the satellite office in San Marcos & love the staff there, today I went to the main office in Austin. I’m always in awe of how much the staff there deals with in a day. I’ve never had a bad experience in the 10 years I’ve been going there. The entire staff is always kind, friendly and helpful. I’m always shocked when I see mean reviews. I always try to be patient and kind with all of the staff and feel like that is exactly what I get back from them. Maybe the haters should try that before leaving any bad reviews. I think Dr. Schocket is one of the best doctors I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many! All my issues are being maintained so I don’t see the dr very often. But, if anything new came up I know Dr Schocket would be right there again just like he was & has remained over the past 10 years. These guys take their time with patients to answer all their questions until their minds are at ease. Sometimes you might have to wait a little bit before your appointment, but that’s actually a sign of a good dr. It has never bothered me cuz I know that it might be me someday that needs a little extra time if I have questions or am worried about something. I would recommend Dr Schocket & his staff to anyone suffering with chronic pain. A+++
Dr. Schocket and his team were so efficient and did an awesome job. My neck feels like new. I had the Bilateral Cervical Medial Branch Block shots. I feel like a new person. Dr. Schocket did such a great job. I love the facility, the nurses, James who found a vein on my difficult arm, and I was under for the procedure, and awake in 30 minutes and heading home. I look forward to having trigger shots in my lower back. I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience. Do not listen to the lady below me. She must of had a bad day because I did not experience any of that. Sincerely, Cecile
My customer service experience a capital pain Institute is very consistent. My customer service experience is consistently terrible at capital pain institute. The only reason I am still going to capital pain institute is because I am tied to them because of my spinal implant.
Hands down, choosing Dr. Amasha at Capitol Pain Institute was life changing. I had been dealing with tremendous pain for years. On my first appointment he made it clear that he would do his best to help alleviate the pain, and that we would take a team approach. He has kept his word, and I am thrilled to have found such an incredible pain specialist. I am always very well taken care of by both Dr. Amasha, as well as his incredibly friendly staff.
Dr Cowins people skills are lacking. She is to abrupt and would talk to me then leave. Always felt she didnt care.Salena liked her bedside manner. Felt comfortable with her. Told her about up coming foot surgery including a bone.graft. She would not give RX for stronger meds said to call. Called for meds because I was in excruciating pain. The spinal tap didnt work so she gave 1 extra hydrocodone a day. Called back again and she gave me 1 more a day. At that point I was in such pain I called surgeon and he was mad about pain meds and called me in percocet that I took 2 at a time.So far I havent found a Dr I trust or care for.
Pain is hard to deal with but the Drs and nurses at Capital Pain have ALWAYS made me feel like Im not just a number. There is one woman who stands out her name, Priscilla. I think she could run the entire place if needed b.😁 The ladies at the front desk always greet me with a smile and respect. Ive had procedures with Dr. Shocket and Dr. Desai. They both made me feel safe and comfortable. If youre having pain issues, dont keep putting it off. Go see the folks at Capital Pain on Shoal Creek Blv. You wont regret it.
I am happy to have found my very seasoned and knowledgeable doctor, though hes pretty matter of fact, not Mr. Compassion ;) He & the entire staff should consider adding more empathic concern to the repertoire of service provided... as all the folks theyre seeing are in much undesired pain, any kind word or gesture helps! Not withstanding, I trust and enjoy his expertise in care! Unfortunately, CPI has a far more expensive co-pay for pain procedures than any pain center Ive been to (which over time would be 4). One would think with a practice of this magnitude and profit, their co-pay could easily have been more reasonable than others, instead it feels unwarranted and exorbitant. The co-pay for pain injections is $100! ($35 more than the highest elsewhere), and sadly it hampers my ability to obtain the benefits of this particular, specialty treatment. Also their requirements for one having not just transportation, if you are going to be sedated, but also someone there personally responsible for you hinders any single person living alone from getting the service done as well. I very much want to stay with this practice; I wish they would soon review their policies and payment scale to make the full range of their services more accessible.
Well, after years of being with CPI, I had the worst experience of my life. A month into the pandemic my appointment was changed at last minute and I was told I would see a new/different doctor than I usually do. I thought, okay, shoudnt be an issue since this was just a typical visit to continue on the long-term plan I had setup just a month before with Dr. Desai. Well, disaster. The doctor(Iden Cowan - worst doctor ever and has no business in healthcare as she is cold, rude and royal attitude) came into room, immediately browsed my chart and started talking at me and telling me she was radically changing my meds and saying my treatment for past years was all wrong because a little back pain was not not that bad. I was shocked. I have several serious issues, but the last visit I mentioned I was recently having the lower back pain.Well, she obviously, and mistakenly, thought the back pain was my only issue. When I pointed out that I had a litany of problems and began to state them, she got defensive and said she wasnt going to argue with me and got up and said I was no longer a patient with a CPI and stormed out of room and saying no meds for you. So, abruptly taking me off my meds I had been on for years and in middle of pandemic!I was in shock and disbelief. So, I decided to go to main CPI office and surely this could get resolved. I talked to office manager who said she would handle it and talk with Dr. Desai and other main doctor. She said it might take a day or two. I never heard from anyone at CPI again. The ignored all my emails, phone calls. So, 5+ years of treatment gone and not so much as hearing from my main doctor (Dr Desai and the NPs).There is a special place in hell for people like this that have so little regard for someones well being...and again for this to happen at start of pandemic when it was very difficult to find a new doctor was astonishing. Avoid these slime balls like the plague...or covid-19!!!
This place is by far one of the best doctors office in town! I love it when I come here, the staff makes me feels comfortable and welcome. Dr Schocket and his staff are very kind, understanding and patient friendly. Fairyn (my MA) is always so kind to me. She returns all of my calls before the end of the business day. Sometimes I am in horrible pain and I am not easy to get along with during these times but they continue to be kind and professional. Tiffany is the 1st person I see when I enter the office and she always says hello and address me by name. I have been a patient of CPI for about eight years and Dr Schockets bedside manner has remained consistent and for this I say Thank You and Hats Off to the entire staff!
Yesterday was my first visit to this establishment and my visit took 2 hours. Dr Shocket listened to my past care then spent time telling me how irresponsible my former Drs had been. He then listed 4 procedures/surgeries that I need while slashing my pain medication. I found him condescending and uninformed about statistics he mentioned at least 3 times. My prescription was not at the pharmacy unti this morning. Every patient is required to give a urine drug screen and if you arent sure your insurance will pay, payment is demanded on the spot. Needless to say, I am not impressed at all.I got a response from the owner a.k.a. Dr Shocket and was somewhat surprised how he skewed my whole post to make it sound like i was only complaining about the decrease in pain medication. Either he didnt read my post or he didnt understand it. My dissatisfaction covered several topics. The appointment was 2 hours long, he unprofessionally wanted to take up more precious time to tell me how irresponsible my former Drs had been, it wasnt all about slashing my pain medication, it was that he wanted to harp on the 2017 CDC report that he goes on endlessly about below, I found him condescending and when spouting numbers from above-mentioned report, he alway leaves out the number of people who overdosed while talking other prescriptions and or illicit drugs. I also mentioned that my prescription did not reach the pharmacy until the following day. And finally I mentioned the drug testing and the demand of payment up front. So Dr Shocket,in the future you may want to be a little more thorough and fair in your responses.
I had the good fortune to meet with Dr. Amasha today. Because of Covid-19, my experience was a video chat. He had clearly done his research on my long term bilateral hip pain. He listened to my problems with interest and outlined a sensible and thoughtful treatment plan.I gave Dr. Amasha a score of 10 for this initial visit because he was so kind and he truly cared about my pain and how it had such a negative impact on my life. He wants to work toward a comprehensive solution. I’m looking forward to a better life. Dr. Amasha makes me feel hopeful.
This review is for the south location on William Cannon. I love Vivien (I hope Im spelling it right) and Dr. Doll. She is compassionate, listens to what you say and truly tries to help. She doesnt discount my pain as other pain management clinics have done to me in the past. The other clinics have always made feel like a second class citizen or a drug addict which is why I made the switch to CPI. Due to the way I was treated in the past I came armed with every medical record I could find on my first appointment. Its sad that I felt that I needed to do that but Dr. Doll actually looked at all of my paperwork herself and talked to me about treatment options.I wont bore you with any more details but I felt that both she and Vivien deserved a kind review as they are absolutely wonderful. If youre looking for a pain management doctor that wont treat you like a second class citizen then I urge you to contact their office. I cannot speak on the other doctors that work for this clinic but I have nothing but good things to say about the south clinic and Dr. Doll.
I had been a patient of Capitol Pain for years. Ive not been a patient for almost two years now but I feel like I should share my experience. Before hydrocodone was reclassified as a C2, I would come in once every three months. I was trusted enough to get a script with two refills. I was also drug tested twice a year. I never had a bad UA. Never any problems. Dr Amasha and Dr Desai were my doctors I usually saw. I was told there would be no appointments until five weeks out so they sent me out the door with two scripts. 4 weeks of norco and the 2nd script was for one week of norco. They scheduled me five weeks out. I took both scripts to Walgreens that very day. Filled the first script. Four weeks later I needed to travel to Colorado and sent Dr Amasha a message asking permission to fill 3 days early for travel. Didnt get an answer. I ended up not going to Colorado. No big deal. I show up for my next visit. I was self pay so I had to pay $150 cash. I pay, Im whisked to the back room. They didnt weigh me. They didnt check my blood pressure. They did nothing medical. Then a redheaded PA comes in whom Ive never seen. She tells me that I altered the date on the 2nd prescription and Im terminated. I asked for her to show me the script which I have not seen in 5 weeks. She said she didnt have it but it didnt matter. Then she told me I needed to leave the property immediately and not come back. I asked for my $150 back since they did nothing medical. That was a big no. After years of being a patient, this is how I was treated. It took me forever to find another doctor because my medical records say that I was terminated for altering prescriptions. I did not change anything. I would think if they cared about patients, they would ask what would cause a trusted patient for years to do something like that then ask if they needed help with a possible problem. They just wanted me gone. No appeal. They had me on 240 norco a month which was max dosage. I asked for a tapered down script so I wouldnt withdraw and she said, You need to leave the property immediately and not return. I seriously think they terminate people just to show the DEA they dont take everyone like a pill mill. Sad how it all ended.
Dr. Amash is it kind and thoughtful man throughout this whole ordeal he is the first doctor that actually listens to what I had to say you dont get that often. I think others would agree thats one of the most important things especially when youre going through something such as pain my doctor seem to know a lot about my condition and he has a lot of patients with different conditions so I know if he knew about mine he knows about most others if not all
Good doctors, specifically Dr. Blauzvern, but be prepared to be patient. Surgical center staff rocks, but general doctors visits with their staff makes you feel you are on the set of Idiocracy. Listen to soothing music before arrival, maybe go to yoga class, anything to put yourself in your best mind space, so that you can be patient and kind. (I am losing that battle.) Billing department has recently been re-organized, so fingers crossed as I have been talking with them for over a year about my bill, which kept getting bigger every month despite no doctors visits. Kudos to Melissa in that department for her responsiveness and she seems to generally care.
My experience with ALL of the staff from Capitol Pain Institute has been very positive from the beginning. The staff is diligent in preparing forms, relaying messages to other staff, etc. I cannot say enough nice words for Dr. Amasha. He truly is a gem of a physician. Dr. Amasha focuses on your needs and the best course of action to help diagnose and relieve pain. I have to say, in conjunction with Center for Specialty Surgery of Austin (right next door) the staff are simply a delight to interact with. Excellent facilities, clean and efficient. I would personally like to Thank ALL the staff at the Center for Specialty Surgery as well. Polite, caring and professional. Keep up the great work, Dr. Amasha!! Also, kudos to Dr. Schocket for excellent facilities and staff. Five star review by a satisfied patient!
If I could give a zero or a minus I would. I would show up for all my appointments and early. The staff was consistently late for signing in. The nurse assigned Vanessa, would not call back per urgent tests requirements. When I would finally get this nurse on the phone there was negative and rude remarks. This is because I couldnt get in touch with anyone about an emergency procedure and had to contact the main office who apologized for the 2 week delay in communication for an emergency authorization. After that situation I tried again when they got moved to a new location; however, it was the same situation when I arrived. No one was there on staff and an argument broke out with a deaf interpretar and the lady at the window for the other business. That nurse came out finally and immediately accuses me of this argument because she had already been called out for unethical and unprofessional behavior. This nurse began making threats. At that time I advised I would be reporting her again. They failed to open on time and failed to follow proper medical procedure. They also do not look up your billing informed status and try to get you to pay more and for unnecessary medical procedures.Beware of going to the William Cannon location and take your care to a more reliable dr who provides compassionate healthcare. Note..this dr and nurse also practices at the Shoal Creek locatio .
I live in the country. Not that many people around so worries about Covid are few. Going into Austin is a different matter. Being able to have virtual doctor visits serves the purpose of visiting with the doctor without any of the worries of coming in contact with the virus. Seems like it’s the best of both worlds.
I saw Dr. Schockey and I was so warmed by how nice he was. I know he was really busy seeing folks but I felt like he gave me the attention I needed. Sometimes you just need a doctor to listen. I came from advanced pain & they pushed a lot of pills on me. I don’t want the pills, just wanna feel like I can do again. Not a bad looker either.
Ive been seeing Doctors, etc. at Capitol Pain Institute for almost 30 years; For the last few years I travel back to Austin, inorder to receive the same Care, Treatment, and professionalism, which means a lot as I am Distrusting of VA and Workers comp Doctors and treatment centers, with good reason, after surviving horrid experiences, Thank you all for treating me as an individual and not a Social Security Number.
They start off like they really want to help you but once they get you in it seems to change. They want you coming back often even if everything is staying the same. You shouldn’t have to go back every 3 months to get a prescription for the lowest dose of neurotin. It cost me $55 every time I walk in the door. The prescription can usually go a year before needing to see the doctor again. Then when I called to find out why I need to see him so quickly the nurse told me I told him last time the neurotin wasn’t working. NEVER SAID THAT. Unreal....
The feeling that you are a herd of cattle going in for your milking is spot on. No one smiles even though I had been a patient for over a year. My regular dr was dr schocket but I would also see the nurse practitioner Heather, who I would say was the only nice person I met. Dr Schocket has stepped back to deal with admin and I had to really dig to get this info. Even the front desk staff was unaware. So I’m surprised of the recent review on him since he’s not seeing patients anymore. I had a horrible flare of my pain and due to a drug test showing negative ( as in it looked like I was NOT taking my meds) even though I was they cut my dose in half. So I’m in more pain and they give less?? I questioned multiple people including Dr Sharma on how this could happen and what could I do to prove it. Not one person could answer me. I was ready to offer a blood sample, do a DNA genetics test (shows how you metabolize meds) or come in for a pill count. They all treated me as I was a drug dealer and sat in the room with their hand and foot out the door ready for the next cow to be seen. While I was still talking! I’ve offered to show them everything else I do to help with my pain. Acupuncture, yoga, epsom baths, paraffin dips, diet change. And they still treated me rudely and did not listen. The stress they caused me brought on more pain. It’s also really difficult to get a call back and when they finally do it’s 5 minutes before they close so if you miss it you’re back in line to wait. I have since switched doctors and it is day and night! My pain almost immediately improved due to less stress. People smiled and the new doctor actually listened while sitting with open body language. The new doctor was not as concerned of my test results since it was mostly normal but every now and then negative and he actually gave me answers as to why that could happen. We made a plan to keep an eye on this with other options if it comes down to it. The front desk people smiled even! I will never go back to a doctor that so blatantly doesn’t care to help and I hope you don’t either.
Dr sharma started out as a somewhat helpful dr , a year into treatment he turned into the Dr that just wanted you out of his office as soon as possible . Not to mention you will wait to be seen for at least 1-2 hours , even if you arrive 20 mins early for your appointment . He has zero compassion for my condition which is very severe , luckily I got a second opinion from another pain management practice . His name is Dr.Marks with diagnostic pain Austin . He is amazing . Never ever go to Capitol pain unless you want to be treated as if your chronic pain should just be dealt with on your own .
But when trying to call hard to get threw to certain people needed to talk to and not calling back when left messagesHard to get certain appointment alsoWhen I explained to the girl on phone why I was cancelled my procedure and going with another pain doctorShe was rude and trying to talk over meHow rudeNever even mey doctor till trial procedure also
Great doctors! I was taking treatment for my lower back pain from some other clinic and nothing was helping me out. My pain was not subsiding rather it was becoming severe with the time. Then a friend of mine suggested me to make a visit at Capitol Institute. My appointment was scheduled at the earliest and treatment given by them worked wonder. I got significant relief at the first visit.
If only all doctors and clinics were like this one, healthcare wouldnt be so miserable. Dr. Amasha one word, amazing. If I had been sent here FIRST I wouldnt have suffered and my diagnosis would have been sooner. So 3 months later today I find out I have a broken foot. Where it broke is right at my arch and walking around on it 3 months to the date untreated has just been making it worse. I am wearing a boot cast and finally my foot should heal. Thank you dr Amasha. He listens. He puts together a plan. And he treated my pain until we could get answers. Now I can move forward. NOBODY should live in pain and be sent from dr to dr to dr. Then if these other docs had simply listened this wouldnt have gone on so long.
I saw Dr. Cowan today in Georgetown with my mother. I’ve got to say that it’s the first time in a long time we’ve felt like there’s hope for her back condition. She took the time to explain why she wasn’t able to stand or walk very long without having to take a break and offered a procedure to help. She did reduce mother’s meds, but we’ve been worried about her mental state with all the meds she was taking and didn’t want her to suffer. We’re so optimistic about Dr. Cowan’s treatment plan and felt very comfortable with her warm demeanor.
This was my 1st time there..my doctor didnt know anything about me..and didnt have my records available..i was upset about that..i went to several specialists..before..I thought it would be different..i was disappointed..but I got a refill on meds..she asked me what was wrong..i told her the specialist diagnosed me with a incurable disease..i only get med refills..i dont know if Ill go back..after going to several doctors..MRIS..CAT SCANS..LAB WORK..AND XRAYS..I THOUGHT.. it would be better..
I saw Dr. Sharna today for my consultation. He was absolutely amazing. I feel like he validated my pain, and saw the scars from the surgeries I’ve had. He gave me a suggestion to try a form of physical therapy that i’ve never heard of, nor had been recommended. He did seem a little rushed, but he didn’t let it affect his beside manner. It’s always a breath of fresh air when you finally interact with a doctor that actually cares about their patients.
CPI is a great pain management clinic! It has grown over the past few years to alleviate some crowding and long wait times that used to be an issue. I am always seen on time and given quick and efficient care (but also thorough). Great staff and Nurse Practitioners. After my three level spinal fusion required life long care, I was glad to find Dr. Shocket and CPI
The staff goes above and beyond for the patients. If you are reading a bad review, more than likely those people did not follow the rules or do not understand the requirements. They are not a pill mill and actually require information not just hand out pills. This facility is strick, but that is because they do care for their patients well being. Dr. Desai has given me my life back and I am forever grateful!Just follow the rules and you will not have an issue!
This place has way to many patients per Dr. to get the quality care one deserve. You are only allow 15 min with a Dr, within that 15 min you are lucky if you are given 7 min of your time to even describe what you are experiencing or going thru before they are walking out the room with out you finishing telling him whats wrong with you! So therfore the Dr there (Dr Schocket ) will suggest all these other procedures to be done, run up your insurance, have a lot of out of pocket expense ($1000) you have to pay and no results or progress accomplish all because they are more into the $$$$$ sign than the care of their patients. Can you amagin seeing 32 patients in a 8 hour shift? SMH do the math?I would never recommend anyone to Capital pain management. The staff there are awful as well. The ladies at capital pain surgery now those ladies have compassion something the Dr and the staff on the other side should learn from.Karen
Wow, what a terrible experience as a new patient. Felt like I was assumed to be a drug addict rather than cared for as a patient or a customer. Cant believe the lack of care or empathy at this place with no compassion given from a physician. Seriously thinking of filing a complaint with the State Medical Board. Needless to say, well not be back.
Update: I got kicked out by the practice for posting this review. Severe threatening tactics. I will be reporting them further. Dr. Amasha hasnt called me back for 3 weeks. This place is unorganized, unprofessional and unhelpful. They charge a fortune and dont take care of their patients. Im extremely dissatisfied.
I had a very positive experience with Dr. Amasha. He listened to all of my questions and answered them in a logical way that I could understand while discussing all of the available options. In addition to helping me to gain a more pain-free life, Dr. Amasha helped me map out a plan for pain management now and in the future. The staff and nurses were also extremely helpful and compassionate.
Terrible. Sat on hard plastic chair 2.5 hrs. Very disappointed. Have chronic pain from RA. Joints are twisted ibviously. Dr Amasha says I need proof from Rheumatoligist. Yes he has one. More time & $$$ while I suffer. Have taken opioids for 20+ yrs. Effective. He doesnt give opioids. He was recommended. Dont go unless U have great insurance, $$$$, and dont mind suffering. If NE one knows of a good old-fashioned Dr who will help, please tell me.
Ive been with Capital Pain for years! I love Dr Shockett & Dr Desai! They actually take the time to talk to you. Look at you in your face and tell you your options and what you can expect and what they can do. The staff has been awesome. Im self pay and cant afford my scripts all at once. Farren is so patient with me, she takes the time to write each script weekly. Karely the receptionist always has a big smile, even if the lobby is crazy. However..Tara Levy.. the LVN is awful. She is rude, short and NEVER even takes the time to look up when talking to you. This is my 2nd or 3rd time seeing her. (To see a LVN is less expensive than talking to a Dr) I wont ever see her AGAIN. Trust me, Ive been at the practice longer than she has and I have never encountered such a rude person. The clinic and the Drs deserve high marks for there bedside manner. I only hate that I dont have the money to see them every visit. I would recommend this place to anyone. With of course the side note that I listed above.
I was a patient of Dr. Amasha and on October 13 that was involved in a major Motorcycle accident and I was hospital last for five days and then had surgery broken tibia and Fibia add plates and screws put in and the doctor gave me some pain medicine and when I tried to call my DrAmasha there was no answer so I left a message they did not return my calls so I had the meds filled and when I went to see him at his normal office visit he terminated me as a patient here now he had no empathy at all.I think as a doctor he failed me as a patient and he failed the oath he took as a doctor.
Dr. Shocket is an excellent Doctor! I think his practice has expanded rapidly over the last couple of years and has experienced a few growing pains, but things are shaping out well. The new space is nice and they seem to have worked out the kinks of expanding to meet the needs of their expanding patient base. I have been a patient of Dr. Shockets since 2006 I think (it has been awhile) and he has consistently helped me to find solutions to my problems, proper diagnosis for my chronic illness, and a whole-lifestyle based plan for getting me back to a functional life. I am doing well today primarily due to his persistent care and willingness to coordinate my care with my whole team. I am trusting him with my life.
After many visits over the years to various neurologists, Dr. Schockett is the first doctor that has a plan for relief of chronic migraines. He is also able to help with lower back and hip pain. He is professional and direct. Malerie is his PA and is a delight to work with. I’m looking forward to some relief.
I have been going to capital pain since they opened their doors. I cant say enough about the staff. They bend over backwards to ensure that u are well taken care of. They truly deserve a 5 star rating. This office has done more to keep me as pain free as possible. When one thing stops working.....they will find a solution!!!
If you want to play games, feel ripped off and brushed aside, this is the place for you. I have never felt so used in my life. They dont return calls, they constantly patched me through to answering machines, when they said the doctor would be there to speak at the end of the line. They could care less about their patients. Definite pill mill and not even a good one. If I could give negative stars I would. Dont waste your time and money.
My dad has not seen Dr. Amasha yet, but, Sara, who answered the phone is phenomenal!!!! She was calm (in the middle of my breakdown about my dads (88 years old) constant pain. I was crying, and she gave me GREAT information, as well, she scheduled a MUCH NEEDED appointment. Thanks, Sara...YOU ROCK.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Dont trust them with your back! I was in severe pain after injuring my back and made an appt online. After the email confirmation sent me to the wrong location/address I arrived in severe pain from getting in/out of car at wrong location, but they told me they couldnt see me because Im a new patient and that their site shouldnt have accepted me. They saw I was in pain and didnt have the human decency to check with Drs to try and squeeze me in - after all it was their mistake. The staff was rude and had attitude. I cant even imagine how they treat patients in the back but no wonder it was empty.
Do not go here. Rude staff. Verbally abusive if you complain because they do not return calls or ever answer their phone. Staff always late to the first appointment of the day leaving you standing outside or waiting with no one at the front desk to wait on you. Try to charge for unnecessary procedures. Also will not look at insurance to provide out of pocket and wants to charge higher prices If you value your healthcare stay away from this place. Unethical.
For the past five years I have been a patient at Capitol Pain Institute and under the care of the fabulous Jasmine Nelson. What I both appreciate and value is how she thoughtfully listens, never rushes or assumes, and allows me to inquire about the different modalities of treating pain throughout my body. I couldnt imagine navigating these waters without her. Nor would I want to. I also want to acknowledge Madison in billing who has patiently assisted me for many years , and Jasmines nurse, Lauren, for her smile, warmth and kindness. And, finally to Dr. Schocket, as we continue to journey together, I am confident we will find that balance of pain management and daily living ( Cortisone Injection/ Nerve Blockers). I cannot thank you enough for everything that Capitol Pain has added to my life.Regards,FK.8/25/2015.
The receptionists the one you first see is the ugliest hearted person .She should be in the back alone where she cant hurt peoples feelings. She has got up whispered to another person loudly about me and omgosh all of the employees all turned and looked right at me.Shes so insecure about herself bevause she is terribly ugly she has to go around tearing others down to feel better.I know iam no better at this moment but i am pissed/hurt.Dr.Shocket please talk to your staff and remind them what welcoming is.
After reading multiple reviews we feel this may be a better alternative than using the VA knowing that we will get options and treatment vs medication. We chose this practice after reading the multiple reviews and knowing that there are alternatives vs living with chronic pain.
I used to go to Pain management consultants and they got bought out our merged with this company. It’s a shame because this company is so rude . The doctor that I saw she has no bed side manors . They don’t treat you like a patient at all . I’ll never go back there . I wish I could give a 0 star .
This place sucks.....always packed n they take forever, office is small and seems as if theres no privacy. When doctors finally come into see you they just want to get you out. They have no symphony for your conditions or health. I get the impression that they think everyone lies to them. They are very judgmental n rather then want to help u. It seems as if ur getting interrogated. Very unpleasant n uncomfortable place to be.
Wow the staff here are always welcome us with a smile, great customer services nice and with the Corona going on they continue to be there for us please please let all of the Capitol Pain employees know that they are our heroes as well they need a raise and time off as a reward for all the work they continue to do again Thanks take care please share
Dr.Desai is one of the best at Capital Pain she takes the time to actually listen and provide me with the care I need, oh the staff is wonderful I wish I could provide the young ladies name that checks me in she’s always cheerful and efficient, Thanks Capital Pain for all you do.....

2022-06-03Dr. Patel and his assistant very beyond helpful. He thoroughly explained my pain situation, explained my MRI results, and made me feel there will be hope and relief so I can get back to a better quality of life. I am glad I was referred over to him before looking into surgery. I feel confident in him and cannot wait for my next follow up to see progress. The office staff was also professional and kind. Before any surgery, seek out this office and Dr. Patel.

2022-02-15Dr. Raj Patel him and his team did a great job. I was scheduled for a facet joint injection and I chose to take them without anestesia because I honestly don’t like to be sedated and everything went well he was working and walking me through procedure the whole time. I felt great after the procedure was able to walk to my car without any complications.

2022-01-24Dr. Matthew Schocket is a great doctor, who truly cares and listens to his patients. I was cared for by him and his team. I was able to walk after surgery, when a year prior I was in constant pain, unable to enjoy life. He gave me hope and I appreciate his service and knowledge. I recommend Capitol Pain institute!!

2022-06-27My experience at Capitol Pain Institute was fantastic. I’ve been dealing with chronic severe back pain for years now and haven’t been able to make much progress or improvement. I was sent to Dr Patel for some unrelated post surgery pain. Dr Patel absolutely seems to know what he is doing, so I asked if he could help with my back pain. I’m now able to do things that were completely off the table for a long time. Given the inherent difficulties with pain management, I felt heard and felt that I was taken seriously. I absolutely recommend!

2022-06-09I was about five minutes late to my appointment but wasn’t turned away and told I couldn’t be seen that day because I was late. Since I have to drive about an hour and a half to get there that was really appreciated. Also got into the examining room very quickly. My test was done and I was in and out of there in less than 45 minutes. All of the staff was very nice and helpful.

2022-04-26I have been a patient of Dr. Amashas for several years. He is very patient oriented and thorough in his investigative diagnosing, explanation and treatment plan. He will listen to you and give you options. Hes a personable doctor that really cares about his patients.

2022-02-28I dont trust providers who wont see you without insurance. Even if you have insurance just tell them youll pay out of pocket and see if theyll see you. Most of them here will not. You know whos interests they really have covered. They know they can push costlier procedures sponsored by medical companies easily if youre insured.Edit: seems like Google reviews can be removed by businesses now. If youre seeing this there is still hope.Edit: 3 out of about 15 providers take cash patients. Why not your best / popular ones?

2022-02-03Back pain can be very intense. Capitol pain institute sees patients with back pain on a daily basis. That is what they do. I went to Dr. Blauzvern because I knew that he would know how to help me. I am an RN with 34 years of experience and have spent the last 12 years working with the patients from CPI. I trust this group of docs whole heartedly. Back pain can be successfully treated in the hands of the right doctors. Capitol Pain has such doctors. Thank you Dr. Blauzvern for taking the time to listen to me and give me your expert advice. I have not taken anything for pain for 3 weeks. And, according to the MRI that was done I certainly had a reason for the intense pain. Thank you CPI and Dr. Blauzvern.

2022-06-21If at all possible dont use this place. This is been an awful experience. They are simply not responsible enough to handle something as important as your medications. On three separate occasions now my mother who is in extreme constant pain at all times has been left without her pain meds over an entire weekend. If you need your meds consistently and without gaps in between refills I would not recommend this place. For days and days you will leave desperate voicemails with no return calls. Something as simple as a phone call from the doctor to the pharmacy will take days. Theyll call in some of the meds and forget the most important ones. Beware

2022-03-24Raj Patel has really helped my back pain! Newly discovered back problems and I had no idea the course of treatment I could use or should use and he helped guide the treatment plan that has actually impacted my pain in a positive way WITHOUT mention of surgery. I sometimes feel slightly rushed when coming however all my questions do get answered. Would recommend to a family member or friend.
