When I am visiting from out of town, I always make an effort to visit an LCS or two. I can safely say that Card Traders has the best selection, fairest prices and nicest staff Ive ever had in an LCS. It was a wonderful experience, and if I am back in Austin I will definitely go
I enjoy coming here for sports cards. Customer service is great. They have a good selection of cards, ranging from sports, pokemon, magic & others. The only downside I have is the lack of variety Ive seen & inventory seems so light for football & basketball. If they sell out of single packs of specific box, theyre out till they get it in again..which who knows...BUT, you can be put on email list to get notified of whats coming in.Overall, a decent shop for sports card collectors..
So, Ive been going to Card Traders to hunt down specific MTG singles for years now. They have HUGE amounts of cards from basically EVERY Magic set and it all stays surprisingly well organized. Fair prices, too. No gouging. Never had a bad experience with em. Its not really a gripe, but I feel like people should understand: This is not a comic book/game shop. The clerks are serviceable and somewhat knowledgeable, but they arent gonna indulge your geekdom to any great extent. This store is product-focused and not really a place for the events and culture of MTG. Half the store is dedicated to sports cards and memorabilia and I cant really comment on that, but it seems like theyre doing a great job there, too. What really keeps me from giving that fifth star is the cramped quarters. Place is just too tiny for all the greatness it houses. If one day they can scoot the whole operation over to a bigger space, itd be a dream come true.
They’ve been around for quite a while and for good reason. Friendly, fair and local, they even reward kids for good grades on report cards with gifts or spins on their reward wheel. Good to see places like this still surviving in this city. 20+ years of shopping here, no complaints.
I have been a return customer to Card Traders of Austin on several occasions now, and I would not recommend them for magic the gathering cards at all. The current person in charge of magic the gathering has little expertise and acts like I am doing him a disservice when I ask to look at cards. When I attempt to speak with him about prices he quotes me that are too high I.E. $150 for damaged revised copy artifact, he refuses to work with me when multiple copies of the card in far better condition $50 + cheaper on tcg player. Even has the nerve to attempt to charge me multiple dollars for cards that he physically watched me pull from the 50 cent rare box - completely unacceptable. When I request to ask the manager Craig to resolve the issue he yells at me at insists that the worker did not upcharge me on cards found in the 50 cent rare box before even asking him if he did. When the manager Craig finds out that the worker actually did do this, he does not apologize to me. Instead, he ignores me or speaks to me in rude tone when I attempt to discuss my concerns and experience as a repeat customer. Shame on you Craig and Card Traders! I enjoyed shopping with you when Kyle ran magic at the store. Not anymore. I will be taking my business elsewhere and sharing my experience with other dedicated collectors on Facebook, Twitter, and Discord.05/06/2021:I just attempted to speak with owner Craig after Walt replied to my message that they strive to respect every customer. I clarified that my goal was to clear the air because I understand that miscommunications happen. Craig clarified that he did not have time for this conversation and did not understand my problem because I got what I wanted. Apparently, yelling at customers was justified, and Craig is not mature enough to have a short respectful adult conversation. I would never expect an apology from a CroMag like Craig. No hurt feelings, there are far better shops for magic, and I dont have to put up with immature BS and disrespectful behavior from Store owners.
Been coming here for years and have always been treated well from when I was a kid to bringing in my own kid. I recently brought my 5 yo daughter with me before the COVID shut downs and she immediately saw the Frozen trading cards. I let her pick out some packs and when we were checking out, Walt let her go pick out a few more for free. This made my kids day and ever since she keeps asking to go back to the card shop! I always pick up a few Frozen packs when I go for her. Its a shame what the hobby has become with skyrocketed prices making it almost impossible for kids to get into it. I feel the prices are comparable to online retailers. Id rather support our LCS as they are far and few in between these days. The smell of cardboard and nostalgia when walking in is refreshing! Im looking forward to when they bring back Midnight Madness.
DO NOT GO HERE. Terrible place first of all the place was mess. The boxes were unorganized there was random trash on the ground. I got a box of cards and when I opened it there was old wrappers and tissues in it. They also gave terrible deals that were not fair at all they were giving $10 for well over $100 cards which were PSA 10. They also had terrible customer service they were very rude and didn’t seem like they cared at all when I talked to them especially the old man who’s name I don’t recall, because I came over a week ago. If you are looking to trade or buy cards please don’t the place is a joke.
This little gem of a store is like a walk back in time. Theres an old fashioned wheel that you can spin, in order to win baseball cards or football cards or even Pokémon cards. Really endearing. The owner adds in a smile, a free cupcake or some free candy, and always has something interesting to say.Prices are negotiable sometimes. They do buyback cards from collectors, but dont expect to get a large sum of money. The owner said, I also need to pay my bills too.It was so interesting when my son walked in, and wanted to purchase a huge amount of Pokémon cards for over $100. I appreciated that the owner, asked my son, if his parents knew about this and where did the money come from? This is the kind of service you should never ever even dream to expect from Amazon, Walmart, or target. We need stores like this. Heres to you, card traders of Austin!
Wonderful little card shop. They have an excellent selection of cards and protective products. I come here regularly to get card protectors of all types. They also have boxes, binders, pages, and protectors for related collectables. The people here are knowledgeable and nice, Nad make it a pleasure to visit.
Not a ton of new card variety but the guys that work there were nice and helpful. Brought my seven year old in the day after I took him to see his first hockey game and the guy behind the counter gave him some free hockey cards. Also pay a dollar to spin the wheel. You won’t win a Mickey Mantel card but who doesn’t love spinning a prize wheel.
Terrible customer service. We were waiting to look through some albums and got our hands on one but the old man was rushing to grab to give to another customer, never did he ask if we needed help or if we wanted to see the other album he took that we were also waiting for. But he was quick to assist customers walking in the door. No matter the color of skin take care of all your customers. We left and took our business else where. I do not recommend this place.
Been going here for years. Started out with baseball cards as green as you could get. With all the guys help over the years they have taught me bunches. I love spinning the wheel! They make spending my money fun! They have helped me put together some great collectibles. Tonight, I got Beltre to sign my bat! Will bring it in to brag!
It was pretty nice. Tons of inventory and fair prices on packs. Staff was alright wasnt super nice but was a bit helpful. Only complaint is that the baseball relics and autos are wayyy overpriced. Would not recommend buying their autos or relics just stick to a pack or two.
The dont seem interested in customer service. Unless your dealing with Pokémon or magic cards. I have been in there 4 different times to buy football guides basketball guides hockey guides and each guy that I have asked about then I needed to purchase I was sold and then find out they are their own books theyre not the books that Im looking for from almost the first set of cars that came out to the newest and most update these books are either 200 Pages if that or theyre nine hundred pages and there randomly scattered throughout the book and theres some kind of weird back it Ive never seen. And when you ask questions they barely know anything about sports. If they had some better customer service and would actually give you the attention and the respect of talking to you taking the time to listen this wouldnt be a bad place to go if youre just looking for specific things to be in and out but to go in and want to talk bit about certain cards with the owner or talk about knowledge in certain sports than this is not the place for you. If you know what you want and dont have questions concerning sports but only want to talk about Pokemon and magic cards this is the perfect place to go to I recommend it to all them type of collectors.
Lots of stuff to look through and a very cool shop. Tried to see about trading or selling some of my higher end autographed baseball stuff and the guy helping me seemed upset that I was asking him to look at it. I was wanting to buy some Nolan Ryan memorabilia regardless of whether they bought mine but that already turned me off. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Cool shop but my experience wasn’t great.
These guys have been living and breathing collectibles for a lifetime, but if youve got a slew of bothersome inquiries (like me) youll still be met with limitless patience.Ask, because there are casual, semi-hidden sales and giveaways. You can get treated decently on trade-ins for store credit (though it must be spent on the same day).My only complaint is that the famous Wheel of Fortune prize spin should have *something for both MAGIC and sports at each possible ticker. I LOVE the randomness of spinning the wheel, but I dont have space for cards I dont currently collect, and when you land on free pack its crushing to learn that its not MAGIC, haha!
A wonderful store! Going there has always bee an incredible experience, with conversations about Magic and helpful employees willing to go through binder after binder with me as we check of my wis list. Simply the best place to go if you want an outlet for your passion
These guys are great. Theyll help you right away and work hard to keep you happy. I went there to buy Pokemon cards (which are ten cents each by the way), spent $10 and they treated me like I was spending $100,000. Affordable, and has all sorts of things like Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, various sports cards.
These guys are awesome. I went in on 02/22/2020 and asked for a card of my high school football coach from the 50’s NFL. The gentleman looked on the internet and found it in their stock. Means the world to me they had it and took like an hour to locate the card. If you want it they have it. Thank you sooooo much.
Recently went here to purchase some inexpensive cards. After finding a few cards that I wanted to purchase, I went with the manager to the front counter, only to be yelled at for paying with a debit card. I know it was only around a 1.50, but the level of rudeness was absurd. Also threw down my credit card on the table between us (didnt have the decency to hand it to me) and didnt even ask if I wanted a bag. I used to go here on occasion to buy stuff, but not anymore.
I think these are the last guys selling single pokemon cards in austin as far as ive found. I always enjoy coming in here. The only reason I would assume anyone would give this place a low rating is the 2 or 3 I see come in every time Im there expecting to get paid a hundred bucks cause they have an autograph or they saw online a similar card had value. You just cant sell what theres not a market for and just cause it was worth some cash 10 years ago doesnt make it worth a quarter today. Do your research before trying to sell. Great shop for pokemon if you play MTG as well. Worth the drive from wherever you are in town.Edit- if your looking for porygon or magikarp Ive already bought every card they had. :)
Fantastic card and collectables shop with a devoted group of customers who come weekly and extremely knowledgeable staff. I do not come here as often as I should! Prices are very reasonable and almost always beat eBay by a landslide. They get in new merch/cards all the time, so you never know what will be there next. Just today, for example, I saw a baseball signed by George W. Bush. Who knew?!? My favorite aspect of the store is their Topps Report Card promotion where I believe if youre in high school and below, theyll give you $2 in in-store credit for each A you receive in a core class on your report card. Cant beat that. Over the years, the degree of interest I have had in MTG and sports cards have gone up and down individually, but no matter what Im in the mood for at any time, CTOA always delivers. Location is also extremely convenient.
Ive probably driven all around Austin looking for places to indulge my card collecting Hobby. What keeps me going back to Card Traders is not the great selection of cards and other memorabilia, but the friendly knowledgeable staff. Whether you are a professional collector or just starting out, card traders has what you are looking for and at a good price.
I think their prices are reasonable (compared to trollandtoad), their staff knowledgeable (they knew what dual lands were vs. the trollandtoad booth at the Austin Comic Con which had no idea) and their selection good (they have binders of cards from each set and had most every dual land). They also have a little spinney wheel you pay $1 to spin. Possible prizes are a $5 card or a booster pack, among other things. I won the $5 card as did a friend of mine and so we pooled our $5 things along with $3 extra and got a $13 card.
I called the shop and they told me that they did not have a RC of a particular player. After arriving at the card shop with my son I found it within 10 minutes. My son asked a question to the person behind that counter and he was rude. The guy looked like he did not want to be there. We asked him to spin the wheel expecting him to get up and he did not move an inch. I will be looking for a different card to shop that at least seems to how that they care.
Hello I have a variety of original Pokemon cards I bought at a thrift store, I did find some holos and did some research but theres Japanese version cards that I have no clue about finding them theres 1st edition, trainer, energy cards I have a bunch of duplicates also can you guys help me find out the value of these cards? And also I found shadowless cards as well
Just visited this busted looking shop from San Antonio just to see some young kid and old man working the counter looking clueless. It took too much time to get help and that old man is one rude guy. I dont recommend this place to anyone interested in cards to come here. Waste of time and effort. 1 star was too nice. And for him to get mad and yell and be rude was not need. Horrible place
Had a really rude employee that was only concerned with clocking out and eating food brought for him , the store was alright.’nice selection of magic cards and sealed product , but the extremely rude employee (you’ll know which one is it is) made the experience very bad, I’d honestly rather spend my money somewhere else
Store said that they dont collect Tiger woods cards because of who he is and stated they dont want to deal with the cards. Granted they have the right to keep whatever they like as it is their business but consumers also have the right to voice their dis-pleasure for their comments. The PGA has a seriously racist past and I still see them with PGA items. Look at the pictures and the stuff hey have. I counted 4 womanizers, 3 that were arrested/convicted for domestic violence, and 2 with drug related charges. These are all from one sport so I am sure their are more. My question is why would they single Tiger out. Well the other 9 people that I listed are white. I like golf and my favorite players are Michelson, Tiger, and Keegan Bradley as I do several weird things like he does when I play. I dont really care about their personal life and am sure they all 3 have some private skeletons in their close. Now that Card Traders is getting into the morale police business as well, I would like them to do a bio on all of their products to see who else they should remove from their shelves.

2022-06-05Great shop with very fair prices on singles and hobby boxes. The store owners are willing to listen to offers based on current market value and always provide great insight regarding their product. They are always happy to accommodate requests for opening cases to look for singles. The wheel in the middle of the store is a nice perk as well.Love this store!

2022-08-25My wife and I had a great experience here. Plenty of cards to choose from, not just sports cards but also MTG. We paid to spin the wheel and my wife landed on $10 in value for a $1 spin. How lucky? Some of the cards were priced slightly higher than market, but it’s understandable given demand and volatility in the sports card market over the past few years. I did not try to negotiate, but they are nice gentleman and I’m sure they are willing to communicate about price if you’re open about it. Thanks!

2022-09-13Ive been to all the local stores and the two gentlemen who own this store really do a service to the hobby as well as the community. I have cross referenced online prices with theirs on many occasions and they keep their margins razor thin. Not only are their prices the best of all local stores, but both owners are friendly and extremely knowledgeable on all sports as well as trading card games like Magic and Pokemon. They keep their shelves stocked with hobby and retail boxes ranging from low end all the way to the most expensive stuff this hobby has to offer. Not only that but if you have a special request they will always do their best to accommodate.I would like to personally attest to seeing their generosity on display multiple times with young kids in the store allowing them a free spin on their wheel for a free prize from the store. Not only this but I have sold cards to them on 3 separate occasions and they were always fair and realistic when making an offer. If you want to give your business to a place that has grinded out 20+ years of success through hardwork and a passion for the hobby (and during a time with a tumultuous economy and a pandemic) well then look no further, this is the spot. Its always a pleasure doing business here.

2022-04-16I’m looking at the reviews and I have to say, I don’t agree with the comments… I was looking at the Pokémon cards there a few weeks ago and was interested in a couple. I did notice they were a bit higher then TCG price and when I brought up the conversation to the gentleman behind the counter he gladly looked them up and adjusted the price fairly.. I’m sorry but a closed mouth don’t get feed. I’m sure if you talked to them and told them your concerns they would of negotiated with you or at least explained how they operate their market…Me and my son are going in today to sell a bunch of bulk and will continue to return to this store because they do a wonderful job!! Thank you Card traders of Austin!!!

2022-07-27If you put pointy hats and wizard robes on the 2 older fellows that own the place, it could almost pass as a disheveled library full of schematics, spell books, and alchemist recipes in the basement of Hogwarts. Theres stuff all over the place, and always loose Pokémon and MTG cards sitting on top of the glass cases. Im pretty convinced that they are not actually organizing anything, its the same cards shuffled around everytime i come in. Whenever I visit, I have to be wary of my OCD kicking in and turning into Russel Crowe in A Beautiful Mind as my brain tries to calculate how long it would take to actually organize the store. The two owners are exceptionally nice though and the prices are decent, with a fairly wide selection. There is one younger guy there that handles the magic the gathering cards and although never rude, he does have a I-just-asked-the-haughty-barista-what-the-difference-is-between-a-Cafe-au-lait-and-a-Latte air about him.All in all, I like the store and its one of the few around thats heavily slanted toward sports collectibles, so if you are into baseball, football and basketball memorabilia or trading cards, this store may have what youre looking for. It also has a decent amount of singles and sealed product for MTG and Pokémon.

2020-11-06Walt helped me out with a Stan Musial bat I have and sold me a couple Cowboys cards to add to my collection. Dont waste your time anywhere else! Walt and Card Traders is the real deal and hope they have another 25 years of success!!! I will definitely be back again and again. -Tim M.

2021-12-15Markup for Pokémon product is wayyyyyy too high. They charge scalping prices. There were charging $80 for a Celebrations Elite Trainer box. Looked elsewhere and bought it for $55 that day. Big rip off of a place. Not only that but my wife and I walked in and werent helped at all, and while we browsed the collection of stuff, a gentleman at the front was still waiting 10 minutes later just check out as we left. Never going back to this place again. I recommend looking elsewhere.
