On our road trip that passed through Beaumont, we did not expect to find anything worthwhile here, but then we discovered this hidden gem at the recommendation of a friend. Apparently it is a great birdwatching spot and we saw quite a few enthusiasts there out with their binoculars and long lens cameras. In general its a nice peaceful spot, with a type of vegetation that was new for me, and lots of birds, and you can even spot turtles and gators.
I enjoyed walking the trails and roads around the park. It is especially lovely at sunset both from the Gazebo on the boardwalk but also from other vantage points, or from a drone. There are so many birds to see and the sunsets can be top notch. Feel free to use any of the photos to promote the park.
This has been one of the major highlights of our trip to Texas. What a gem. This community is blessed to have this for the enjoyment of all ages. And its free! The benefit to wildlife and making water cleaner are great benefits too. Congratulations Beaumont. Youre environmentally ahead of your time.
If youre looking for a fairly long walk that feels out of the way, but in reality is right on the edge of town, look no further! Sporting 5+ miles of trails crisscrossing over swampy terrain, this place is perfect for some intense cardio, or a leisurely walk. Be careful of the alligators and snakes though as they often sun themselves draped across the path. Im giving 4 stars instead of 5 for the lack of rest areas along the path. Some of the patrons are older or with young kids so somewhere to sit and rest your feet would be nice
Fun and remarkably beautiful place. Its litterally just a straight board walk, maybe 1/5 of a mile long. The scenery was something out of a wildlife documentary. I half expected Sir David Attenborough to start commenting on the surroundings. We stood in silence for half an hour just appreciating the raw beauty of the environment. Id recommend bringing a water bottle, but there are shade structures on the walk so sunscreen may not be necessary. If youre in the area its worth checking out.Young children might find it boring, but it could still be a great place for some family photos.
Went out on Christmas Eve, totally beautiful day. Seen several alligators and the weather was perfect. Then decided to go on 1-2-22 another perfect day, even with winds at 20-25+ mph and the temp at 38-40 deg. Once out on the loop warmed up nicely. Just a great place.
Beautiful, and very peaceful. The boardwalk is short and easily accessible to all fitness levels, and you could take a stroller if needed. There are two covered spots with seats if you wanted to sit and take in the bird sounds for a while. Bathrooms require a car or a long walk back into the park.
The experience was grand. Natural plants in the marsh of beauty and nutrition for wildlife. KEN was our host. Children enjoyed, the turtle, making bird houses, the origami designs and so much more. The fullness of the Park is designed for a blessed day of events and fun.
The park is great. As long as you dont need help from one particular City of Beaumont employee . Becareful out there and use a buddy system . Because when and if you need help, and this guy is available. He will not help because I quote its not my job to help you..call you names ,use profanity towards you and simply leave you . I realize that now being alone out there now is very dangerous.
I love this park we ride our bikes here often. Pros are the beautiful birds and other wildlife we have seen deer and even wild hogs but the best is the alligators. There are so many in early spring but I have never felt threatened by them even when I have rode by within a few feet of them because I didnt see them. They are beautiful creatures. The only cons I would list are sometimes the air smells from the water and I highly advise bug spray
Nice place. Good place to go if love walking, jogging, or even golfing. They even have horse stables there. Looks like they was having riding lessons. The marsh area was neat. Dont really know the history. I didnt explore as much as I should have. If you want to get away from the busy city and go for a nice walk, then this is the place.
If you want to see all of the wild life that south east Texas has to offer, go here! Make sure to bring binoculars. We saw so many different types of birds and quite a few gators. Can’t wait for the wild life center to open. There is a really long walking trail that goes the whole way around the marsh, so a great place for nature walks.
So being from West Virginia got really excited to see my first alligator in the wild. Very quiet place and its just a mile from terminal Im working out of. Tons of birds, ANF saw lots of turtles too. I was told they have 13 miles of trails. Great relaxation destination, or go see the wildlife.
Now there is an observation deck so you can look out in the marsh from an elevated position. It is really nice, probably 25 feet high, has an elevator for handicap accessibility. If you like to look at lots of different kinds of birds this is the place to go, bring your spotting scope.
It is a nice park, especially for wildlife viewing. Tried to run out here unsuccessfully. They advertise 5+ miles of trails, but most are overgrown and cannot be easily run. The trails also have large rocks that do not feel great to step on. Dirt trails or crushed granite wou of have been better. Nice for a walk though...
Many people do not know wearing this place is located. Cattail Marsh its located inside of Tyrrell Park. The atmosphere is calming, quiet, beautiful, and very relaxing. There are many bugs such as: wasp, dragonflies. Most of the bugs there are huge as they should be because Cattail Marsh is hey natural habitat. There are many birds such as pigeons, seagulls, and a Great Blue Harrington. If you see alligators there are many warning signs that says not to feed them because they are very much alive. Overall Cattail Marsh is a beautiful place for a picnic, family time, or just going for a simple run.
My kids had a blast here.... it is a shame this place is not very well known. I have lived in thia area my entire life and did not know Tyrell park had anything like this! We hiked down around the marsh, stopping every so often to see the wildlife around us. It was AMAZING

2022-06-11Such a nice place to see and hear birds. There is a walkway over the water with 2 gazebo areas to sit. You can also bike or walk the cattail trail around the marsh but it is long so bring water.

2021-12-29Hidden gem for this portion of Texas. Extremely large park with more walking trails than you could possibly do in a day. Natural swamp setting with many species of bird, and alligators. Very little crowd, but very clean and well maintained! Will be back.

2021-12-31Stumbled upon this beautiful place. Loved talking to Ken at the education center. Learned so much. Saw a bald eagle nesting, lots of birds, and 4 alligators up close and 5 in the water. Great day. Cant wait to go back. Thank you Ken.

2022-04-13Beautiful and quick little outing for my family. We didnt get to see any alligators (insert sad face) We did get to see a few birds and ducks. Dont bring food as youre not allowed to feed the animals. Benches to sit and watch are provided on the board walk. Little play areas around the park for little ones to exert some energy. Binoculars are recommended. Theres more birds off in the distance than up close to the walk.

2021-07-27So if youre looking for a place where you can walk around and safely view Wild alligators for free... this is the place! You can also ride bikes or walk your dog on a leash or do some bird watching. There are dirt roads that are decently maintained and they are raised up probably eight to ten feet above the level of the water where the Gators are with about a 45° slope down to the water that is usually mowed. You can walk for miles and not ever have to backtrack because of how big the place is and how many different roads there are running through it. You do have to be careful because some of the Gators will respond if you mess with them...dont ask me how I know LOL

2021-08-03It was exciting to walk down the boardwalk and seeing those alligators and different birds and plants and sounds. We met some nice people and each shared some interesting info about what we were looking at. Highly recommended!

2022-04-13We took our grandkids here and everyone loved it. Lots of birds. We did not see any alligators though. We were told that since it was very cloudy, windy and a little cool that they might be snuggled up somewhere. We got to view the bald eagle nest.Since they have about 12 miles of trails we will return.
