Families being hungry in this country, in this day in age with all the massive corporate wealth, is truly heartbreaking to me. I give what I can on a regular basis, not to make myself feel good, but to let these people, these angels, do the ultimate good that they can only do. The only thing that gives me peace is knowing a family or families will have food and nourishment.
What a great place to volunteer. They have lots of activities for small to large groups and they provide food to a huge service area. There are jobs for everyone from kids to adults. For bigger, corporate groups you can call the volunteer coordinator and get a specific website set up for your activity. Easy peasy for your volunteers. They have a big drop in volunteers right after the new year, so thats a really important time to go!
Take a group of friends, family, and/or coworkers (call or e-mail first to schedule a time) and help central Texans in need. This is a great place to volunteer: a beautiful facility, knowledgeable and friendly staff and coordinators, and lots of tasks appropriate for a range of ages and abilities. And don’t forget to check out their beautiful garden! 😊
I have had a great volunteering experience here before. I recently tried to sign a group of kids up for a volunteer shift. Somehow our reservation got cancelled, and they werent able to accommodate our group. Its frustrating, but I will definitely try to sign us up again. What a great sign that this place has so many volunteers that theyre turning people away!
If you have time to donate this is a great place to start! Give them a call and ask her about their many programs! From school lunches to meals-on-wheels this organization helps many people in Travis County and surrounding counties to with their food bank program. Thank you for all that you do! Love my bowls from the empty bowl project!!
Amazing new facility. Such an awesome amount of food move through the warehouse every day. Happy to see that people are being supportive all year round and not just for the holidays. Austin is home to some fantastic people! Thanks so much for all your help and support.
Really fun experience but good luck getting your hours if youre going here for community service or if its required by your school. Their process to get proof of your hours is ridiculous, you first have to book an appointment and bring in all your papers and even if you dont have papers you have to type them up? You need a time sheet and a paper where you were required to do hours. Then at that appointment you make another and thats where you will receive proof of your hours. Its proof of volunteering not a diploma good lord they make it so difficult i just did more hours somewhere else bc i was on a time limit and it was going to take about 2 weeks to get my hours.
I volunteer every Friday at the Grace Baptist Food Pantry in Red Rock. And I stand amazed at how smoothly the pantry runs and the seamless delivery service accomplished by Central Texas Food Bank. The drivers are both respectful and knowledgeable about every facet or the system utilized.Thank you all so much and God Bless us all.
Having donated and volunteered in the past, I have seen this group from the inside and out and cannot possibly rate less than 5 stars. As this city grows, so does the population of economically disadvantaged and hungry. Their work is critical in so many ways. A sincere thank you to the organization and all of the volunteers for their selfless work to help those less fortunate. My son, for his 4th birthday party, told all of his friends - No Presents! Just bring food to donate. He was thrilled to bring it all down here.
Really nice place, but one of their drivers parked in the dock I was assigned and then told me, “Too bad, cuz I ain’t moving”.DRIVERS TAKE NOTE: the street address is not the delivery address. The street address is Metropolis, but the entrance for shipping/receiving is on Burleson...it’s about 1,000 feet before Metropolis on the left. It’s a concrete driveway with a 4 wheeler parking lot off to the side. Go straight through the gate and check in by door 11.
Thanks for the opportunity to support, donate and volunteer @12 week Culinary Arts program. What an exciting day! Culinary students graduated! As a final assignment, we prepared a delicious menu for the graduation. We couldnt be more proud and thankful. congratulations team!! 🥳🥳🥳👩🍳👨🍳..#graduation #futurechefs #chefs #foodbank #culinaryprogram #team #doingthings #congratulations
They coordinate with the Legacy of Giving organization to promote philanthropy in school age children, from elementary to high school. Each year, our campus conducts a canned food drive and we deliver the food to the Central Texas Food Bank. It is well organized, our students are fed lunch and they participate in the joy of giving. What a great day for our students and us!
Went here for food assistance during the recent government shutdown. Although the process was efficient and quick, the majority of the food I received was out dated. I received 3 jars of peanut butter with Best By dates in 2011, canned goods dated from 2014 to 2016, boxed goods that were not only outdated but were opened and taped closed, etc. The canned goods may be fine, but I seriously doubt the peanut butter is. And the boxed food. Why are they giving food out thats so old? I may just take it back, maybe another family can benefit more.
We had a great experience volunteering at the food back. There are people who need this service and 1/3 are kids. Noone should have to choose between rent & food, health & food, but this is what we have here, and we can redistribute the leftover food to where its needed. A supply chain problem. They serve >40k clients.
PLEASE FIX THIS so that (at least at this veteran-targeted venue) our military veterans are first in line (scroll down for “PROPOSAL”).[T]he idea of Healthy Foods for Veterans is a welcomed one.For the convenience of #MilitaryServiceVeterans, the Federal Government has graciously welcomed the 🥕CTFB to set up a monthly pop-up #FoodBank on the Austin VA Clinic Parking lot from 0900-1100.There is only one serious problem; and it’s getting worse…This #MobileFoodBank is open to the public, which is a problem only because the number of civilians who are willing to line up before the clinic gates officially open (0600) seem to outnumber the number of our veterans who are able to take advantage of this nutritional program. Many veterans claim that the norm is to wait in one line for as long as an hour (before 0900 when the mobile bank officially opens) — just so that they can get in queue (usually in the mid-70s to over 100) to wait in queue for yet another line (the actual food line). But after the first 70-90 or so clients (remember those folks who are already lining up before 0600 when the clinic gates officially open), the freshest and most desirable products are long gone. Not to mention, these veterans (many of them ill, frail and/or elderly) are waiting outdoors. Now just stop and imagine waiting in a food line for 1-3 hours during this past Central Texas summer (Austin’s third hottest, with over 50 days of triple-digit temperatures) — and what might await our veterans as the seasons change to the other extreme. So by the time most of our real veterans get in line (to get queued for the food line), the civilians have reaped the cream of the crop — the fresh veggies, meats, etc. so that most veterans are left with bags of potatoes and rice and a few can goods (not so healthy). Now theres nothing wrong with potatoes and rice (and our veterans are extremely grateful), but THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!Many of the early-bird civilians are #FoodPantryScavengers who follow the published 🥕CTFB schedule and make their rounds, for which the VA Outpatient Clinic happens to be one of many stops they will make throughout the month. While standing in these lines, many non-veterans can be overheard boasting about their bounty and/or claiming that they are here for a veteran (usually a neighbor). Clearly, they have little or no shame (and less propriety)! And because no ID is required at these events, our veterans must wait behind the selfishness of these other gluttonous clients. (It’s important to mention that the no-ID policy is associated with 🥕CTFB. Bona fide military veterans do not mind showing their IDs. If they use the VA Clinic, they typically have their IDs readily available.)Remember, Military veterans are all too familiar with lines — lines for meds, immunizations, deployment readiness, meals, etc. — you name it; veterans know what it’s like to wait in line... But THIS PROGRAM IS SUPPOSEDLY SET ASIDE (SPECIFICALLY) FOR VETERANS; SO LETS NOT MAKE THEM STAND IN, YET, ONE MORE LINE — BEHIND THE CIVILIANS THEY HAVE ALREADY SERVED (and sacrificed for). Now the PROPOSAL: To afford #MilitaryServiceVeterans the earliest opportunity to benefit from the 🥕CTFB #MobileFoodBank which is set up (monthly) at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic Parking lot for the benefit of providing fresh and nutritional foods for military veterans, no line will form before 0700, and civilians may only join the queue line (no ID required) at or after 0915.Youre welcome,@TheSleuthClinic/cp

2022-05-11I came to ctfb as part of a group volunteering effort in their food sorting and packaging Warehouse. The leadership, both volunteer and employed, were patient, energetic, and encouraging. They took what was already a feel-good experience, of helping local Texans in need, and made it even better.

2020-11-03I have been volunteering and donating here for decades. Its a fantastic organization to get involved with to help your fellow Central Texans in need. My father recently passed away and this was the place we loved volunteering together the most. In his name I started a Virtual Food Drive and donated almost 1,000 lbs worth of non perishable food, and I will continue the tradition in his honor, especially during the holidays!

2018-03-25I volunteer at this facility whenever I can make the time. I have been blown away by the impact a few hours of your time can make with respect to the incredible organization of Central Texas Food Bank. I have met so many lovely people that work and volunteer there and I highly recommend making the time to volunteer here. You will be helping SO many others and they make it fun while you’re there!

2022-02-22There’s no other experience than the experience of giving back to your community. It is actually very fun and the time goes by quickly. Many different “jobs” to choose from during your volunteer time. My favorite is sorting food off of a conveyor belt because you have to move fast and be able to look at items and put in the appropriate box (harder than you think!). The CTFB is always in need of volunteers but especially at the beginning of a new year because ppl tend to volunteer more so over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Go with friends and make it a memorable experience or go alone and know you did something on your own that gives back! You will be rewarded in many ways!
