Went here today for my daughters birthday. The lockers cost $0.50 every time you open the door so that sucked. Once you put stuff in there you couldnt go in and out of it as you wanted. Once you opened it, it kept the key and you had to insert another 2 quarters to lock it again. 4 bottles of water cost me $10. So with that being said. The place was nice very crowded. Very friendly staff. $10 to get in $5 to rent skates. Anyone not skating gets in free. The kid skate assist thingy cost $5 for only 30 min of use, you had to turn in and hope that your able to get another cause your on a wait list for em.
Attended a birthday party and had such a great time. Was 1st time skating for both my 3 and 5 yr old. Quick lesson to start, private area for birthday treats and wonderful staff made it a great time. Even Elsa, Anna and Olaf came to visit the birthday girl and ice skate with the party.
Terrible customer service. My wife went here with our 3 small children. I grabbed one of those skate helpers that are located in the back corner by the skate rental table (there is no sign indicating that they are actually for rent and cost $5. They look like a stack of high chairs in a restaurant that you would grab for your kid.). When I grabbed one, the person working there saw me and didnt say anything so I figured they were free for customers to use. I went back over to the stack to grab another one for my other kid that needed one and then I was informed by a different person working there that they are $5. I decided not to buy a second one and then continued to skate. That same person informed me that the sake helpers are $5 saw that I had already had a skate help and proceeded to walk onto the ice and demanded 5 dollars for that one that I previously grabbed that the other person seemed to be okay with me having. He called me dishonest and had a terrible attitude. I had told him that there was a confusion because his co-worker saw me take one already and didnt inform me that the skate helpers are $5 to rent (reminder that there is no sign around the skate helpers saying that they are $5).Long story short, the staff has no idea of what good customer service is and never intended to provide good customer service. They need to shift their focus on providing good experiences for customers and less on nickel and diming. I will never go back here.
Great place to ice skate. They are very covid safe and make sure that if your mask is off they will make you put it on. The ring is pretty big but you do get those really good skaters who kind of do their own thing and might scare you if your a beginner. Definitely check it out if you wanna ice skate. They have cubbies for u to put ur stuff too
Just had an amazing experience on my first time at the beginners ice-skating class. I last minute enrolled three kids in late registration 20 minutes before the class started. Mindy not only helped me with putting all the skates on for all three kids, but also personally gave my kids a one on one lesson privately since it was their first time. These days it is hard to find people that truly care to help others and thanks to her, she made this experience a pleasant one with no stress. If you want a positive experience for your kids and a great form of exercise, I highly recommend enrolling them into this skating program.
I think this place is greatly priced and it’s a lot of fun, whether you know how to skate or not. I’ve brought many children here and they’ve had a fun time learning and being on ice, since they don’t see ice/snow very much. I like to come here a few times a year, especially with people from out of town that have never ice skated before. I also sat in on a figure skating competition once and it was really cool! I like how those are open to the public. The only thing that’s hard to plan around is their public skate schedule. The hours are a little weird sometimes, and not good for people who work or go to school, but sometimes you get lucky and are available when they’re open :-)
I went to a hockey tournament here. Entry as a spectator was free. Really nice rink with a great concession stand. There is seating available upstairs if you want to sit down (also warmer up there). Otherwise you can stand and watch right against the glass. Was a fun time! Parking is free and there is a lot of it.
Lots of fun. The times available for public skating could be expanded, but I get it. They probably make more money from the Hockey and Figure Skating kids. The rink is clean, and they Zamboni the ice every couple hours to make it nice and smooth. Lots of space for parties and good food on deck. The skates were fairly new and clean. The prices are reasonable. It looked like everyone was having a blast. They offer skating helper walker things to help those thst are having troubles on the ice. Its a great place to learn to skate.
Was pretty disappointed at how my 4 year old was yelled at by an employee because he accidentally skated into the camp they were having. My son cried so hard that he didn’t want to get back on the ice. He hadn’t even made a full circle. Just sad. Next time, they should warn everyone that there is a camp going on and not to skate through there. That’s it.
Great place to skate! Everyone that works there is very dedicated and helpful. I bring my granddaughters at least 2-3x a week and they live it. You can also have a skate lesson for free the first time you skate or group and private instructors are also a great option.
It’s a solid rink. One of the major ones in Austin. Adult leagues can be a bit disorganized with scheduling, and their website to sign up for things was likely designed by someone who was very unhappy and wanted to inflict misery upon others. but that’s just surface stuff, it’s a great rink for the 5 years I’ve been here.
Its small but enjoyable for the kids. Note to others: Dont use those little candy machines they have by the snack area! My kids lost a few bucks from them because it would accept the 50 cents but would only dispense 0-5 at a time. Truly a waste of money, but if youre there just to ice skate, everything will be good.
Great space to suit up, very nice ice, large, spacious restrooms! Rental Equipment is all new in 2020 2021. My family likes this site better than northcross due to it being a lot more room in the off ice area! Same great staff and service we have had at the northcross location
Amazing. During Covid it is now more than any other time important for our children to have an activity where they are safe and still be around other children!) Chaparral Ice makes that happen with everyones safety first! It is a positive, inclusive and fun environment!!⛸⚽️🏒🥋🏋♀️👭💃👯♂️
Staff are always friendly, especially Mindy. The rink is nice and clean (who care about stickers on the chairs, kinda like pennies in the fountain), and my kid and her friends have always enjoyed skating there. As for lessons, some instructors are clearly better than others. My kid took group lessons there from basic 1 to prelim, and we had no issue. Sometimes it does get crowded during public skating time, no fault of CI, it is just a popular rink (and only one) around.
The lockers are coin operated so be prepared with change. $15pp includes skate rental which is decent. But they really need to crack down on people hoarding the inside benches when there is clearly a sign stating not to. Some of us need a sit after taking a hard fall!
Our kids take ice skating lessons here. Theyve been really great over the years and the kids have learned a ton. The kids love going back every week. The coaches and staff are very nice. The place is a bit crazy during public skate sessions, especially after they offer a Groupon, but I wont knock them for trying to drum up extra business.
I was skeptical of this place after reading the reviews posted on yelp and google about how its dirty and the ice is in poor condition. Heres the deal, I played Ice Hockey in Ohio for years before coming to Texas. In Ohio there is a rink in every 15 mile radius from 1 rink, to 4 per location. If you want to play hockey, or your child wants to play hockey, this is your only option and its way better than the option I had as a teenager. The fact they have a gear shop and a league for every level of player is absolutely incredible considering we are in central Texas. The ice is amazing except some color showing through from the worn sand below the ice. Its cold? um... hello... its an ice rink. It smells bad? Well water literally touches everything inside that place so theyre doing a great job, compared to dozens Ive been to up north. If i get wet and sit in my car once I have to smell that for a week. This place is beyond what I expected after reading reviews. The only place Ive been to that is generally (all things considered) better than this place, was in downtown Cincinnati. If you want to skate every now and then but have a list of issues with this particular location, then maybe roller skating is for you. Some of the comments about the ice are pretty funny. The ONLY thing I would say about it is the rented skates should be sharpened more, but Id say that about EVERY public ice rink. I refuse to rent skates, so I bought my own. For a beginner Id say rented skates are probably better. That being said Dan Graesser is the man. If you want to give ice skating a solid chance, talk to him. You can get private lessons, group lessons, learn to play hockey, and get the lay down of every single piece of gear here. If you want to seriously get into it, even just to the point you want to come every Sunday, talk to Dan.
My son recently attended Camp Avalanche at Chaparral Ice Center. I was extremely impressed with the staff, facility, and everything surrounding the camp experience. The communication from Angie Vaught before camp was excellent, and then the camp itself was tons of fun for our son. I really like that they didnt just skate, but also went to a water park, went swimming, and did age appropriate activities with the kids. And the counselor really cared for our son, calling him by name every time, and always keeping an eye on him. I am extremely grateful to Camp Avalanche, and Chaparral Ice, thank you so much.
Nice facility and it wasn’t overly crowded, however, they didn’t resurface the ice before the public skate started. More details below. My husband and I went on a Friday night 6:30-8:30 pm public skate session. We preregistered and prepaid online as website suggested. When we got on the ice, it was very clear that they did not Zam (resurface)the ice. I went and asked the front end staff about it and they told me that they were understaffed and wouldn’t be zamming the ice. Fast forward to after the session was over, sure enough, they were zamming the ice.My takeaway in all this was to not prepay, but to check out the condition of the ice first. Considering the cost (especially if you rent skates as well) I expect at least to start out with decent ice.
It was a really great experience ice skating..... it was fun but for a beginner, it might be rough cuz sometimes they cut off both ends of the rink for classes so you are forced to not depend on the wall so much haha.... its okay... rink was a bit rough at spots too... we came between 10am-12pm ... uh.... its pretty darn cold so make sure yall wear some outerwear.... theres concessions.... line wasnt too long getting skates... theres also a lot of kids flying left and right and they dont really watch where they are going.Update: If you dont like kids, go on a weekday when everyones at school. Then you can enjoy a nice session with only adults and older teens that actually look where they are going!
Interactive and fun family venue. The kids knew how to roller blade and did fine, enjoying the rink. Ice skating is a cross between roller skating and roller blading, the latter which I hadnt done for over 10 years. Needless to say, wear thick pants to buffer yourself from the ice. Took a few spills but only my pride was bruised.
We love Chaparral Ice, and we are frequent visitors. For this session, it wasnt overcrowded, so there was ample space to practice figure skating, and we love our classes and coaches. Sometimes the ice is not well mended from intensive hockey and successive public sessions, and for this session, the Zamboni needed a second pass. We cant wait to hit the ice again this week.
I had a very poor experience here. I am a nanny to three girls and we all went midday on a Wednesday. The figure skaters are favored here and are allowed to stand/practice WHEREVER on the ice. I was under the impression that tricks and standing around was only allowed in the center. There was so many people skating, it was hard enough to have room. And then with figure skaters in the middle of the lane doing tricks and some just standing talking (yes, right in the middle.) I asked an employee and he said they are encouraged to use the center because thats what its for but that they arent required to. This combined with the fact that they cut off 1/3 of the rink to use for beginner lessons, and a woman teaching a young boy how to play hockey in the middle of our path, I just got off the ice and gave up.It is called PUBLIC skating for a reason. Lessons and figure skating by professionals should be done at a different time. My girls are just learning to skate and they shouldnt have to try and figure out how to go around groups of people standing around or watch out for people going the wrong direction (all skaters who were not beginners). Oh, but the guard (Im not sure what hes actually guarding since its basically a free for all) made sure to reprimand one of my kids for picking up ice. Im not trying to be whiny, but we went ice skating to actual skate. Not to barely move and try to dodge pros who think they own the rink (apparently they do). This rink cares more about the figure skaters, hockey players, and their parents than the general public, although Im not sure they could stay in business without people like us. Poor customer service. Waste of money.
My family and I started visiting Chap in 2013, and we immediately loved it. Angie Vaught made us feel welcomed from our first day there. Our kids (10, 10, & 8 at the time) were new to ice skating and had just started playing hockey the year before we moved to Austin, but we were still considering other sports too.It was the community of people at Chap and in the local hockey community who made us want to spent more time, learning to skate and playing hockey. The ice/hockey community in Austin isnt tremendously large, which is really nice, because you get to see the same people with some frequency and really get to know them well.Austin didnt feel like home, until our kids got involved in the recreational hockey league at Chap. My husband and I learned to skate and play (not well, but who cares?), after noticing people in the adult leagues, who were still playing, well into their 60s! The best thing is that you dont have to feel stupid, being brand new to a sport, but trying to learn as an adult. Everyone is so encouraging
Coolest, iciest place in Austin. Theyve completely redesigned the place. Private womens shower room, brand new bathrooms, two different viewing areas, fold out bleachers, and best of all - a snack bar with liquor! No more lugging in ice chests of beer and snacks for after games.
My kids and I were very excited about our first visit to this place . It was going to be our first skating experience and Santa was going to be there so they we were at noon as soon as they open. We were having a hard time until I found out there was a thing call skating helper that was available for rent for 30 min and you could renew the rental up to 2 times so I went and got 2 one for each one. All the sudden they ask us to exit so they can give maintenance to the ice so there we were waiting for at least 15 min in the lobby which was fine but by the time they’re able to skate again the time I knew it was almost up but I figured that they’ll be you a makeup time and I was about to go check or renew when all the sudden I saw my oldest daughter (7) going in panic in the middle of the ice because a guy wearing a vest took her skating helper and leave her by herself. Thank God another boy help her to get to me since I was sitting all the way at the home benches unaware of what’s going on. And the guy did the same with my 4yr old and since I was dealing with my daughter I had to ask Santa to help me to get my son since he was by himself trying to cross too. At the end both of them end up crying and of course they’re afraid to go back. Thanks for the worse experience! It was rude and inconsiderate to take the helpers from my kids and leave the by themselves!
We had my daughters 12th birthday here. The lesson was great. We realized after the lesson some kids needed extra help so we bought private on-site lessons $10 for 15 minutes. By the end all the kids were skating on their own. Caitlyn, Andrea, Cassidy and Moni were excellent. I cant rave enough about the service and wonderful experience we had!
The rink looks smaller than the pictures (Ive come from a large Midwestern rink so that might be the reason) Also, some of the coaches dont exactly teach and demonstrate what they want us to do while others do. Its really a roller coaster of things to say about this place
Our boys had so much fun on their first visit June 6th that we went back June 7th. The staff on the 6th was delightful but the young man on duty on Wed. the 7th was rude and had a major attitude. We got there at noon and it was he and a girl. His attitude persisted the entire time we were there. Think he got off at 3pm. I own 3 businesses and I would want to know if I had an employee with such a rude attitude.
Dont get your skates sharpened here. A little while ago I brought my skates to the pro shop to have them sharpened. I filled out the form and used my credit card to pay. Two days later, I go to pick them up and the lady at the counter shrewdly tells me I have to pay for them. I stood there confused, because I knew Id used my card to pay for a sharpening only 2 days before. But I didnt have a receipt. No receipt was sent to my phone. So I had no choice but to pay another $9 just to get my skates back. I payed $18 dollars to have them sharpened! Unbelievable. I was already angry that I had forked over double the cost for the sharpening, but I told her I was going to do the public skate. I paid her for that and she slammed the wristband on the counter and snarked, here, at me.The staff is just unbelievably rude here and unwilling to help sort out a customers concerns. If you want your skates sharpened here, be careful of the fact that you might be paying double for them!

2022-02-06Not a good experience for birthday celebrations. We came for my neices birthday and the room was not decorated when we arrived. At the end it was 2, $1 tablecloths and 12 small almost empty balloons. They brought the 5 boxes of pizza and the liters of soda as soon as the kids were getting ready to ice skate. It took like 30+ minutes to give a skating lesson to 15yo kids. You can imagine how cold the pizza was after almost 1 hour of ice skating. Then, the pizza wasnt cut properly. My sister brought a knife from home to cut the cake, so we were able to cut the pizza better. No utensils at all. They brought the bottles of sodas with no ice, we had to asked for it. No napkins, we used the paper towel roll that was over the sink. Total disappointment. They sell it well but they executed terrible.

2022-06-20Easy 5 stars. Any day I can make it to Chaparral its a great day.I picked up hockey about 2 months ago, and Chaparral has been critical in supporting my newfound passion. Well maintained ice, friendly staff, lots of ice times, amazing coaches, and a fully stocked shop for equipment.I really thought I was out of luck wanting to pursue hockey deep in the heart of Texas and I consider myself lucky to have Chaparral. :)

2022-05-06Awesome rink, and friendly staff. We brought a. 2-year-old and 4-year-old and they had size 6 and bigger for both of them, and they even busted out the buckets to help them keep their balance once they saw us struggling on the ice!

2022-02-27Pros: Friendly staff. Clean building. Loved the free storage boxes. Lots of benches.Cons (in order of importance): Horrible ice conditions for the public skating session. Makes it a chore to skate and unenjoyable when your going to just take some time to relax and enjoy. I wouldnt want to come back just for this reason.Music was too loud to be able to chat with friends without yelling.Rental skates were bad. Several in our party had to go through a couple of pairs to get good enough skates either due to them being too old and worn out or bad blades.Too expensive for not keeping the ice in better condition and the worn out rental skates. Improve those two things and the price would be more reasonable.

2022-04-28My daughter has been taking Learn to Skate lessons through Chaparral Ice and we just finished Basic 4. We completed the first two classes in Cedar Park and it was always busy and crowded. This was when the Cedar Park location was still the Chaparral Crossover. We had to do Saturdays so probably busier than other class times. The instructors were ok, but nothing to write home about. The teens doing hockey (girls and boys) would swear and play rap music with swear words while walking through the arena area. Then we moved and took a short break but now we have completed Basic 3 and 4 at Chaparral Northcross. The Basic 3 class with Rhea was great. My daughter got some great feedback from Rhea and felt more confidence in her skating as a result. Rhea was attentive and supportive and gave constructive criticism to help my daughter learn. Basic 4 was not as great an experience. Her Basic 4 teacher Dawn spent most of her time yelling at her own kid who I figured out eventually was supposed to be part of the class, but at first seemed like a tagalong not paying attention and being quite disruptive during the first couple of sessions. Then it evolved to a dynamic of Dawn yelling out to her child to do this specific skating thing, or try this when skating (that sort of individual instruction) and most of the focus seemed to be on her daughter. My daughter received feedback once during the 8 weeks of Basic 4, and that was at week 4. So we thought we were moving along pretty well with the specific tasks for this level due to the lack of feedback regarding my daughters skill, and my daughter appeared to be keeping up with the other kids in the class skill-wise. But because my daughter didnt receive any feedback to help her improve (except once on week 4), she apparently got hung up on one portion of the evaluation and was told she didnt pass. We even completed two classes during basic 4 on different days, (so with different instructors), and it was the same dynamic of no feedback on what she was doing. I feel disappointed overall about our experience this time. I dont understand why there wasnt feedback given during the classes to help her improve this one aspect that kept her from moving forward to level 5. We also had a lot of difficulty with the rental skates this time at the Northcross facility. One day the girl behind the counter gave us two left skates. Another time the blade was too dull and my daughter had to get off the ice and ask for another skate. The classes are only 30 minutes long so every minute counts. Our suggestion from management after the basic 4 evaluation was that Dawn is a great instructor and maybe we need private lessons in addition to learn to Skate classes - so trying to upsell... I dont know, maybe we do need all that, but with different instructors - or Rhea 😊 or just someone willing to pay attention to all the kids in the class. I want to sign her up for more classes but dont know if its going to be worth the money. Maybe its time to do something else. And I write this review to let other parents know that just because your kid isnt receiving any negative feedback from their instructor about their performance doesnt mean your kid is doing well, you may just find out on evaluation day. I even stood there watching all the classes and didnt see my daughter doing poorly. But now I know I need to see about getting feedback from the teacher before or after each class. But thats typically really difficult to do since the classes are stacked back to back and instructors are out on the ice with the next class. If you can get a class with Rhea I feel like youll get your moneys worth.

2022-01-03This place is amazing. Very family friendly!!! I brought my 3 yr old ❤There are several classes to choose from for ice skating/figure skating, hockey, etc.The staff were great, answered all my (probably dull) questions and helped my kids swap out skates until we found the right size. (4x) Id recommend starting a size up for kids. They fit a little snug.I loved this place, we will definitely be back!!!!❤

2019-10-06Good place to learn how to ice skate and play hockey. Very friendly staff. Great pro shop! Activities/classes range from beginner to advanced. They have open skate, figure skating, hockey leagues, and much more. Highly recommend!
