Well , well, well what can I say?? Its not what it used to be when I was growing up. I only came cause I lost a bet to my husband.. The cheese isnt good. The green chile had no flavor but like refrigerator flavor and the winnies from the round dog well arent the red ones anymore!!!! Sooooo sad!!!😰😰❤️😰whyyyyyyyy????
Despite how overcrowded the weekends can get, and long lines all the way to the parking lot throughout the evening hours, this location is my favorite! Their staff does a great job taking orders in a quick efficient way, and the food is never disappointing because its always hot & tasty!! Cant get enough of those tacos and round dogs!!😎👌🥤🌮
First time I went to Chicos the owner was alive. The place was clean, the food WAS good. The tacos had beef. Now the tacos have little to no beef. The whole place is filthy. How they pass health inspections is questionable. Now theres signs everywhere begging for change and demanding cash ONLY. I dont know the name of the person who worked so hard to start this once upon a time, great El Paso Tradition, but I can say that seeing this would probably bring tears to his/her eyes. CHICOS Tacos can be great again. Its name is a part of El Paso as much as the star on the mountains. You dont believe me. Then look at the Monopoly game and the Bucket List on TV. Surely theres enough revenue for upgrades or simply maintenance. Dont kill this great tradition.
Even when I’m not here everyday like I wish I could be... I wouldn’t wait in no other line with a smile on my face like I wait here!! It’s like paradise when I look at this vintage menu and atmosphere! I love my Chuco Town! 🤧🥰🙏🏼P.S. get the grilled cheese 🧀 just get it! 👌🏼🙃
Great food as always. This was the first time I came to this location. When I saw this scale gave me a flashback to my childhood. I come from a very small town just out of the panhandle of Texas its one of those towns were the courthouse was the center of the square there is businesses all around it between the bank and the pharmacy theres one of these scales. I mean it is exactly like it. The town is Crowell Texas.
Why is this place still Open?Desperately needs to be renovated its a complete disaster ....tables, floors, blinds, parking lot, person taking the order rushing you and the one giving out the food with a horrible personality. Needs Health department and Code enforcement ASAP!!
Made a quick Pit Stop To Check out what I heard about. This place is a good fast pleasant surprise. PROBABLY not healthy , but when you need that Crispy , fried, cheesey Spicy goodness this is the Place. And definitely try the hotdogs burger wow 👌I will be back loved it ... ❤
The best and my favorite place EVER to grab a bite to eat while in El Paso. Its a MUST! The staff is always friendly and the orders come out quickly. Chicos tacos are often imitated by other restaurants, but never duplicated!! No other restaurant can even compare their tacos! Hands down, the best!
Must have crunchy tacos in my belly! Yum. Crunchy not soggy and oh so good. They are very very busy. We jammed Michael Jackson and The Beatles while there. Make sure to get a grilled cheese or fries to soak up all that delicious sauce. The place has a nonstop revolving door. Fast. Hot. Delicious.
A local institution, those who know say, you havent been to El Paso if you havent had Chicos Tacos. Their signature dish is 3 or 6 flautas (aka taquitos or rolled tacos) submerged in a watered down, runny salsa and generously topped with grated cheese product. They give you salsa verde in those thimble-like containers. Its an acquired taste, sure, but once youve acquired it, you will crave it and keep coming back for more.
Dont know why Im surprised that not only the food stunk but the service or lack there of REALLY STUNK cashiers are rude and and the help is actually even MORE RUDE!!! And belligerent!!! Will NEVER set foot in these so called restaurants!! Go somewhere else or go to The District instead better food and service at least they smile and say thank you !! Instead of talk S$&t to the paying guests!!!Good luck!!
Apparently this place is the kind of place that you either love or hate.Going in, I had a feeling it was similar to Taco Casa and i was right.I ordered a double order of the tacos, fries, and a medium dr. Pepper. Came out to $10.59. i paid $11. They may not be able to give you change due to the national shortage of change.Important: this is a cash only business and they do have an atm inside. The tacos were good. Really crispy and smothered in cheese and soaked in a red sauce. The fries were ok.The food came with some mild green salsa that i liked. I didnt want to pour it into the container in case it was super spicy. It was mild. I occasionally dipped the rolled taco into the green salsa.

I went and bought 20 singles of tacos to take to Houston Tx. I got the tacos the Chile and the cheese ok but got short handed on the sauce I ask for more cuz that wasn’t enough for my 20 orders of tacos the lady was rude and told me that it’s one cup of sauce per order I told her to please give me more cus it’s going out of town and the sauce is what make the Chicos Tacos so she then told me if I wanted more to buy more… I paid over $80.00 for the incomplete orders I don’t recommend buying large orders they will rip you off!!!
We got out of UMC hospital, I tried to place an order to go, they said they did not do that, ok, we get home all the flautas had no cheese, keep in mind we drove to the west side, we had to buy cheese to put on top, and the cashier was very rude with my son and myself, I am disappointed, I can make those at home, quite frankly.
So, I really wanted to enjoy the atmosphere and food at Chicos, but neither were enjoyable. They have a cop posted at the restaurant who eagerly enforces their mask mandate while you wait in line. I suppose if one were just eating or drinking in line, instead of 4 or 5 feet away at a table, it wouldnt have been necessary to insist on. Moreover, the tacos (taquitos) in the sauce were overrated. To go here is to go for the nostalgia, not for a good experience otherwise.
I ordered 2 fries with 14 singles, bean burrito. I paid $54 +. I still got short changed. They did not complete my order. I live in Anthony, Tx. Just to find out I was short an order of fries. How things have gone up in price I cant afford to not get what I paid for.Ive been calling and no one answers. I would like my money back for the cost of fries plus tax. Will someone contact me please. Also didnt get my receipt. I understand they had a lot of customers. But still could have gotten my order correct. It was #791
Their COVID19 protocol is effective and quick. They are cleaning tables and seats as soon as customers leave opening areas for the fine in experience. I would suggest to order in advance to limit time you have to wait. Ive been craving this and so happy it didnt end in disaster.
Its a meh place. I honestly had high expectations for this place. Taquitos were all soggy tortilla and ground beef tasted like carboard. Hotdog/hamburger was aight not good or bad but just aight. Service wasnt great, employees were in a bad mood and when i asked to please get my drink without ice the guy just said I ALREADY SERVED IT SORRY. Definetly an overrated place.
This is a staple and a must for many El Pasoans. I had been at this place a couple of times however, their cash only policy turned me away each time. Finally the day came and I was able to taste their famous flautas (fried rolled tacos). I got a single/small order (they have single and double) and a drink. I did noticed a lot of people get fries (crinkle) with their order. The flautas are covered in shredded American cheese and douced in quite a bit of their famous sauce (which in my opinion is nothing more than tomato puree with onions and garlic). The temperature of the sauce melts the cheese which turns into a rather peculiar mixture. You eat the flautas while also sipping from the sauce in the plate. My veredict is as follows. There is nothing special on either the sauce, the cheese or the flautas, however when they all come together something peculiar happens and turns this otherwise awkward dish into something craveable.I started feeling disappointed however I ended up planing my next trip. So, before you head their way make sure you have cash and be ready to be surprised.
Went in for a complimentary cup of water. Was served with obvious reservation. Went in with another person yet initially, humble tho we were, only received 1complimentary water. But establishment appeared clean upon glance behind serving counter. Did approach security to see if another cup of water was an option for someone willing to post a picture of business.
I only like going to this Chicos because out of all the others they are the ones who have the closest taste to what I grew eating. Well tonight I ordered a Jumbo Cheeseburger and on their menu a Jumbo burger is $1.42 yet I was charged $2 more to add cheese and when I questioned it, their response was that is the price for a Jumbo Cheeseburger, WOW, so remember all dont add that cheese they will charge you $2 extra for it. To top it off they made me wait for my food as also claimed their prices changed yet their menu still shows old prices. This has been the worst experience I have ever had here, guess my Chicos Tacos days are over with 😢.
Great service was in line for no longer than 5 minutes even though it was packed food was ready fast too, food was good and still hot when i arrived home disposable items are med quality CASH ONLY needs a curb side system or something big crowds in these times are not good, saw an employee mask related incident that i wont share in public because i like this place.
Theres nothing more to say its the best place in El Paso I love it I love it I went to the one on Alameda the original one their sauce was very spicy but good I enjoyed myself and my friend came with me he also enjoyed himself when Im in this part of town I always like to stop by this place has been around since 1958. There has been so much said about this restaurant and its food and how inexpensive it is. If you get a chance please stop by and try it some tacos and dont forget to drink the juice if you dont like that but the tacos are good and the price is right and the hot dogs are to die for
To rob; the last post on here. What kind of contradicting review is this? For a local guide you sure arent putting things in perspective. (The food was ok, but Ill never be back ) hey, either the food is good or its not. Chicos tacos has been around for ages and still ticking. If it wasnt all that good they would have closed down a long time ago. They used to have only one location; today they have more than this location. You be the judge now
Great taquitos. I stop by Everytime I come to El Paso a tradition I did when my mom was alive, since I could remember. The place looks the same, food taste the same. Just one problem kills the whole experience theres no where to sit. And getting a a table is crazy. I put my purse down on an emty table and this rude man sat there and took my table, I had to be the bigger person and walk away and Im from California!
Giving one star only because I cant give ZERO stars. Only came here because of the hype about eating at Chicos Tacos when visiting El Paso. It tastes like generic frozen flautas and watered down tomato sauce. Best thing I consumed was the Dr. Pepper. Youre better off eating Jack in the Box tacos honestly. 🤢🤮
Food was great but one thing I dont understand is why do they have such strict guidelines about covid yet the restaurant is filthy?? You cant even walk in if you dont have a mask but every single table in the place is just gross!! Even to pay your about five feet away. Its Chicos so I guess they get a pass. What else do you expect.🤷♂️
Yeah yeah the drinkable flautas are amazing and all but have yall gotten their grilled cheese??? absolutely spectacular! ALSO, place gets really crowded cause, you know, on how good it is, so id recommend just order it to go and head to the park thats right next to it.
Before going, be aware that it is a cash only establishment, and it is quite crowded. Wheel chair access may be tricky, because there isnt much room. That being said, I have always heard great things about Chicos but had never been, so when we found ourselves in El Paso, we made sure to go see what all the fuss was about.I love grimy, hole in the wall, diners drive ins and dives type places, and the Chicos definitely fits the bill.We ordered the large tacos and fries. The tacos are rolled tacos, served in a delicious soup broth, topped with ample cheese and a side of green salsa. The chewiness of the tacos after sitting in the broth with the melting cheese was the stuff of legends. We enjoyed it and will definitely be back.
I have been a true supporter for many decades! This will honestly be the last time I visit this establishment. The seasoning and the way the food is made has drastically declined. The flavor is not even close to the early days of my childhood and adolescent life in El Paso. I wish them the best and hopefully one day they can bring back the delicious chicos we all grew up loving!
Chicos is Chicos, but I would like to comment on the great customer service that one young lady behind the counter provided to three demanding and difficult old ladies. This employees job was to call out the customer number, serve the drinks and hand the customer their order but she want out of her way to constantly correct the mistakes the customers made. That is great customer service!
The tacos are not the same, the quality of them. Every time I come to visit my home town, this & Whataburger are my to go places but it seems like every visit I make the quality gets worse. For some reason the cook(s) keep burning the ground beef, which makes the tacos taste nasty. Get it together Chicos.
Took to long to give me my rolled tacos & where Luke warm & my cheeseburger didnt taste like usual they switched to soy burger or some substitute definitely not real meat . Very disappointed. Was one of my favorite location to eat . Owners have been shortcutting everything first fake cheese on the rolled tacos now there ground beef what next . Wont be going back ... Sad that an El Paso icon has decided to do this.
Not sure I can be a fair judge since I can only speak for the original Chicos Taco and fries. Atmosphere is fast food, service is fast and friendly. The tacos are pretty good floating around in the juice with cheese on top. Its not too spicy. Great place for lunch with friends, after a game or after a few drinks. Prices are fair. No matter where you go you can find someone who knows of this place. I will definitely be going back. This is a cash only place and there is an ATM on site.
Grew up eating Chicos tacos since I was a kid. Moved to So California. But always come back to eat Chicos tacos at least 1 year. I bring my kids grandchildren. They all Love it. Always go to the original one on Alameda. Bring allot back home for my entire family to enjoy.
Ordered tacos, but came in like a soup?? Not sure if its a Chicos Tacos thing but thats not something I expected. The meat tasted old, like it was made a week prior. Burger was also ordered and had barely any flavor. The employees need to turn down that microphone or talk quieter, no reason for it to be that loud. Also,CASH ONLYThe have an ATM in store, so its not too much of an inconvenience but it wouldnt hurt to invest in a card reader. Two stars for the taco SOUP and cash only.
My daughters and I discovered Chicos back in 2009 and since then we come down at least 2 times a year and we love to eat here. We like the one by the zoo because it has an old school juke box. We love playing music and eating. Mmmmmm rolled tacos and the sauce is the bomb.
Part of the take out order was missing. Only realized after we had gotten home. We live a good 30 minutes out so it didn’t make sense to do a 1hr round trip. Manager refused to provide us with a voucher to get to get the missing items another time around. We had to go back to the store and return the whole order to be able to get back the missing items. It’s hour lunch hour during a working day, we don’t have time for that. Rude and bad customer service.Expected more from an old time El Paso staple.
No stars for this place I had those so called famous wet tacos and I was very disappointedNo flavor at all their just a ground beef rolled taco with zero flavor I literally wanted my money back well its not letting me post without a star zero stars for this place it literally sucks
This place has changed so much the food used to be delicious, now is like the lottery sometimes you get lucky sometimes you loose like me today and the service is bad, they call your number for your order like if they are doing you a favor like you should be thankful that they took your order. Im from El Paso been living in Houston for 10 years now, eating Chicos when I visited El Paso was a must not anymore.
I went in one day wasnt sure what to order and I asked the guy at the register what is most popular to try and he pointed at what many were eating, the rolled tacos. I enjoyed their rolled tacos they cover with their signature red sauce, covered with tons of their shredded cheese with fries and the green sauce on the side its a real comfort food and the employees were all nice. Ill definitely go again. Good location on Alameda close to anything plus bus stop right outside for those who take public transit.
I have been going to Chico Taco to eat my favorite food for along , long time. The food is fantastic, but their oneIndividual who makes Chicos Tacosstandout better then the other and thatsManny the cook,he is cool, calm, collective and very courteous.Going to Chicos Tacos is a family tradition and Manny for sure is the main reason we go. God bless you all and you are bless that you have a cook of Mannycaliber.
We visited from okc, only to be let down from the famous hype. We ordered tacos, king hot dogs, and double burgers. King hotdogs were a poor excuse for hotdogs. Hamburger buns, 2 hotdogs, and beans... Nothing exciting just basic flavors. The double meat cheese burger were okay but wed prefer any other burger joint. They were like burgers you purchased at a flea Market. The chicos tacos, werent even tacos. The taco itself was flavorless and even with all the ingredients combined (sauce, cheese, and jalapeño sauce) were below average. The soup, sauce, and cheese by itself was more favorable than anything that was served.
The food was great once I got home and ate it but my order was missing three items and I had to fight for them because they didnt want to give them to me saying I had them when I didnt. The staff there used to be really good but I think they have new staff members and theyre not friendly! They also need to do a better job as one lady kept touching her face mask and then grabbing food items I pointed out out to her and she rolled her eyes she was also the person giving me a really hard time about my missing items.
I came with my husband and when we got our food I found a big hair in my tacos, I was so disgusted I wanted to throw up and just asked for a refund rather than having them remake the tacos because I lost my appetite. They were so nonchalant and rude about the whole situation, super disappointing, we won’t be returning.
This place is an El Paso icon. Millions of people love this place and serve rolled tacos in a definitely unique way.I gave them one star because I do not like the way they serve rolled tacos.I would encourage anyone who has never been here to try it at least once and come to your own decision.
I was expecting good food but it tasted really bad. Not going again. Also, why is this place so packed at all times? There’s just one toilet on the restroom, which is pretty dirty and smells bad. I feel like I wasted my money on diarrhea food. Now in the other hand, why is it called Chico’s Tacos if they serve flautas with tomato sauce?! I feel so confused and disappointed at the same time. Not coming back again ever. I don’t like it and I don’t recommend it! Just go somewhere else, this is bad quality food!
Its not, at all like back in the 80s and 90s. Now! They are super nasty. Maybe not all Chicos are like that. But the one on Alameda are horrible. The meat. Yeah! Where is the meat! The sauce, watery,no taste at all. The place incredibly dirty. I dont even know why they allow them to have it open. I really do think they should shut them down. How sad but thats what I think.
Have always loved it. A true El Paso classic and original restaurant. Be aware, rather unique, maybe not for everyone. Rolled tacos in like a tomato soup/sauce. Very popular amongst locals. The hot dogs in hamburger buns with beans are great too. I always put the green chili on the tacos.
Must eat Chicos at this location! Closest taste n look to the original Chicos. Red sauce is perfect, green sauce is just the right amount of spiciness, rolled tacos r crunchy, fries r golden brown, hot dogs r full... So why arent the other locations making the rolled tacos the same ?? Super fast n courteous service too.
Good but not as much as it used to be. Was spicy enough before now you have to drown it with the green salsa they hand out. Tasted better with the red chili pepper flavor hotter in the soup to begin with. Nothing special on this visit. Ill give it a try again but Ill go for a different location next time.Lost my prescription glasses there. So it turned out to be a little more expensive in the end. Called to ask but its like they actually avoid answering the phone. If you found them send comment.
So, this is an interesting place. My rating is for the atmosphere more than the food. This place has history and is a local landmark at both locations. I had the beef stew burrito once. Interesting. I’ve had the tacos. Honestly, I was underwhelmed. Then I learned the secret: get the tacos to go. You get the boiling hot red sauce, the cheese and the tacos separate. Then you can put them together in a mixture set to your taste.

2022-02-14Get the sauce on the side!If you are a first timer and haven’t tried these style of taco. If you order to go they default sauce, cheese and salsa on the side. I wasn’t big fan of the red sauce it’s meant to swim in.Great tacos and it’s cash only so be prepared to use their atm!

2022-05-01The food is tasty, prices have gone up, bit then again everything else has. The place needed a remodeling 20 years ago, its looking very shabby, and the bathrooms are grossAnd after all that I still give it 4 stars, because the food is awesome, love the tacos and the hotdogs

2021-08-29These are by far the most disgusting tacos I have ever tasted. Even on my days days, I can cook these types of tacos 100% better than this garbage. I can’t even say what they were filled with?!You people that give this “food” more than one star are food deprived. There is a whole world out there people. Get out a little more.I can’t give it zero stars or else I would. Stay ignorant.

2022-03-05Different and delicious! The grilled cheese was amazing. The tacos are swimming in a delicious red sauce. We’ve never had tacos like this and they were good. The hot dog is also unusual it comes on a hamburger bun, but really good. This place is very busy, so be prepared to wait and make sure to have cash.

2021-07-03Chico’s Tacos. Do I need to say more? Same deliciousness all the time every time. The uniqueness of the Alameda location just takes you back to who El Paso really is, the Great People of El Paso, El Chuco. If you never been to this spot, you need too make it a point o at least try it once. What can I say… the tacos, the ho dog burger, the sauce, the cheese, dipping the fries in the cheesy sauce and a large soda to wash it all down, doesn’t get any better than this. Could you, maybe, just maybe… visit the option of free drink re-fills?

2022-02-12Came here 2 days ago and the 1st I see is this propaganda sign about Covid, I came here to relax and eat and seeing this totally gave me anxiety and made me lose my appetite. Not only that the tacos hardly had any cheese in them. #DoBetter

2021-06-20Chico’s Tacos came highly recommended so I went to try it out. There were a lot of people here so clearly they must be doing something right. Be aware that they only accept cash. There is an ATM there. The food was okay but I doubt if I go back. You will be the best judge. I hope you will enjoy your visit. Please like if this review helps you decide.

2022-04-27We tried a few things we hadnt been here in years. The famous rolled tacos with the sauce and cheese are not the same famous tacos as years ago the cheese is different and the tomato sauce they us is totally different kind of disappointed. We also tried a hot dog with chili, that was the worst Ive had the hot dog had a bitter smell and it didnt taste any better either cant say much about their chili another disappointment. We tried their single hamburger with cheese that was pretty good and their fries too. So over all skip the tacos & hot dog and just order their hamburgers. Another plus for them is that their staff is pretty friendly and their constantly cleaning.

2022-05-23Im not a fan of the food. It was a lot of people there and a lot more comming. You have to bring cash. There are no refills. I had the rolled tacos taquitos in a tomato based sauce with shredded cheese on it and a cheese burger. The burger Pattie was paper thin. It must be a local thing. I had great expectations and I was let down.
