First time visit. Nice little cozy mom and pop restaurant. The waitresses were all nice and helpful. My buddy and I ordered the cheese sticks as an appetizer. You get 5 plus marinara sauce. They were good but nothing fancy. I ordered the lunch gyro minus tomato. When the waitress brought it, it was Pita bread with only lamb meat and onions, tzatziki sauce was in a cup on the side. It was good but plain, maybe add some lettuce. The tea was good but I had to ask for extra ice both times I needed a refill. Also ordered the cannolis for dessert. Had never had them and wanted to try. I was expecting them to be a warm dessert but they came out cool. Guess I was just expecting them to be warm. Overall it was a nice experience. Will visit again soon and try the deep dish.Went back for a 2nd time and had excellent service. We both decided to order pizzas and they were really good. The waitress was great and catered to everything we needed. Great experience the 2nd time.
***NOT CHICAGO DEEP DISH***The only reason I gave this establishment 2 stars is because they had AMAZING Customer service! That being said, I am originally from Chicago and have had the real thing. This restaurant uses a deep dish crust but they only fill it about half way. A REAL Chicago deep dish is piled high with layers to the top of the crust. This was just an insane amount of cheese in an attempt to..... Well honestly I have no idea. When we called them to ask them what the heck basically, as they state they too are from Chicago.... Their answer was that theyve been to the amazing Chicago deep dish places in Chicago and that this was their Scientific answer to deep dish.Thats their way of saying theyre so far south that theyre hoping none of you down here have ever had a real Chicago deep dish pizza so their going to cut corners and price costs by their Scientific answer. Please PLEASE do not order this, thinking this is a real Chicago deep dish pizza. I am not the only reviewer that has said this. It makes me sad that theyre literally lying to people in the Valley when they know very well that their not making a genuine Taste of Chicago Deep dish.
We love calling in advance to order deep dish pizzas and eating them there. Service is always quick and friendly, but this time we were surprised they asked if we would like a toy for our 8mth old to play with. We said yes, and were pleasantly surprised to see they had an age appropriate toy for him to play with.
Definitely not Chicago deep dish pizza. 90% cheese, barely any sauce, and almost no toppings. While eating I simply pulled off half of the cheese just to make it edible. The place seemed understaffed with only three people including the cook. Every table was dirty to no fault of the wait staff. Only redemption this place had was the waiter who was running back and forth for the whole restaurant.
Called to inquire about an online order was put on hold for 30minutes. Walked in to the restaurant with the two cashiers by the front on their phones and chatting with each other, was still on hold. There was maybe 6 guests in total dining in. Picked up my order and walked away. The chicken Alfredo was 7 out of 10. Very small portion, with maybe a total of 5 small chunks of chicken. Taste and texture was good but too expensive for the portion size.
Lady on phone told me order would take 20 minutes. I get there on time and pull into their curbside since im currently in a foot cast. I called and immediately am put on hold. I waited on hold for about 5 minutes and finally hang up and try calling back 3 more times. Each time I got a busy signal. I get it; maybe they extremely busy. But I never got a callback. I never been there beforebut to experience this on thefirst visit is just sad.
The food and atmosphere were wonderful but service was extremely slow. I had the Monterrey chicken sandwich with house salad and it was very tasty. My two friends had the honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich that they said was very good. Staff were super nice but we couldnt figure out why everything took so long, to the point of us thinking they lost our order.
The food was decent. The Great White pizza was amazing I thought. Good flavor, chewy and satisfying. The pasta, not so much. Got chicken fettuccine Alfredo for my daughter and specifically asked for no spinach and no mushroom. It came with mushroom. The pasta didnt exactly taste fresh. Almost tasted like sauce out of a can and the noodles were slightly water- logged. There was only one cookie at the time as expressed by the waitress who didnt initially see us walk in. My wife didnt like that every time she tried to grab the attention of the waitress, she just walked by us clearly in a rush to do something else but from what I could see, she was the only one there as far as wait staff. For being my birthday, the meal was underwhelming to say the least. I may give this place another chance but I would be cautious when I do.
We went as a group of seven friends. The ambience was a lot of fun and the food was great. I had the Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza with pepperoni and garlic and it was delicious! Not good for anyone who is lactose intolerant, but for everyone else it is awesome! I loved the thick, crisp, crust. The marinara sauce was thick and bold with layers of cheesy goodness! We ordered three Chicago-style Deep Dishes and nearly every single appetizer. It was a LOT of savory food, but somehow four of us found room to get three of the rich and tasty desserts. Wed definitely go back!
Their hot dogs to me tasted like the ones Ive eaten here( guess chicago makes them the same) the mushrooms were good, the pizza did not convince me to go visit Chicago anytime soon, but the dining experience was a great one and waiters and waitresses treat you very well, and they have a basketball, soccer and volleyball courts, and a playground for kids seem to enjoy it and take full advantage of the offering which is awesome , pricing is a little high so I give it a 7 out 10
Had my daughters 5th birthday party there. What an amazing place for my family . And Justin our server was exceptional. He was so attentive gave us great recommendations on food. Food was really good also. The event had a huge play area for the kids outside. We will be definitely coming back.
Awesome Italian food. Pasta was a bit overcooked but pizza is off the charts. The deserts are very good too. Can be a bit of a wait to get food and the servers can get very busy with the amount of people. Overall will eat again and would recommend if your in the mood and have the time to wait for a very delicious pizza, you should stop by.
Cordons is a nice spot that offers a little of everything from Vienna hot dogs to fresh pizzas and calzones. On this particular visit my wife opted for the 12 veggie pizza and I ordered a calzone with Italian sausage and black olives. The food came out in a timely manner and my calzone was cooked just right with tasty Italian sausage and perfectly melted mozzarella cheese. On the outside the dough tasted fresh and wasnt overcooked. My wifes pizza was piled high with fresh veggies on top of, again, great tasting dough. We both enjoyed it but agreed the veggies should have been slightly cooked as it seems like they were just piled on after the pizza was cooked. However, thats a minor gripe and overall we are pleased with this particular meal. Please like my review if you found it helpful.
Man I was so excited when someone at work told me they had someone from Chicago down here running a pizzeria. Im from NY and I miss good pizza! Then I had the pizza and I understood why they left Chicago. They couldnt make it where the pizza is actually good! This pizza was horrible. Id say trash but the inside is nice and I only had pizza here once. Maybe a fluke? Idk the sauce was definitely marinara sauce. Not homemade. Not spicy not sweet just sauce. My kids hated this place! The underside of the pizza was coated in parmesan cheese? Not good. I hate to be snobby but I worked at one of the best pizza places in NY when I was a teen. I ate the pizza everyday and would stuff my fat face with it until I couldnt fathom another bite. This place....I couldnt eat a 2nd slice it was so bad. Little Caesars is better than this place. If you like this place, great. Try it out but do not, DO NOT think this is the best Chicago has to offer. I know they have way better pizza than this.
I went in today for a birthday party invite, i ordered wings and the first batch seemed to be pleasant, so I ordered a second batch, I took a bite and felt like I bit into a rock, the whole table was like ” what was that?” I spit out the food and it was a nail!!! A metal nail, I reported to one of the employees and she immediately called the owners and my waiter, she took possession of the nail and cleaned it off, I asked for the nail back and took pics and filed a police report. The nail broke my tooth in half!!! The waiter said he will void the one batch from my tab but i will pay the rest, no big deal I ate them and wasn’t looking for free dinner, now we will see who pays for my tooth.
Delicious pizza, attended a party in the back, everyone had so much fun playing volleyball, basketball, football and the kids played on the playground. Alot of tables n shade, perfect place to have a party. The pizza was brought to us hot and delicious, they brought us cold drinks and held our desserts and cake in their fridge till we were ready to cut it. They have restrooms there in the back for us to use.
I personally did not get the level of quality of food as I was lead to believe would be available here at Cordons. Barely better than a Dominos pizza. But please keep in mind I have very little experience buying food from this restaurant and a establishment shouldnt be judged by just one chef having a off day. I will still be willing to come again and give this restaurant second chance in the future.
This is the first and only time I will come here. We were the only customers there. We had cheese sticks. Tasted like the oil hasn’t been changed. Got wings, one of them was not cooked all the way. Fries tasted like oil not potatoes. As for the 10 inch deep dish, we took three slices, maybe 4 pepperoni found swimming in the mountain of cheese. The pizza crust was not cooked all the way. The pizza had a pound of cheese with splashes of marinara. Nope! Stay away from those dishes. Good luck on the other ones.
I eat at Cordons quite often. I enjoy their gyro with its tender lamb and soft pita wrap bread sorrounding the fillings and topping it with their home made white sauce. The calzones are also a favorite and the deep dish pizza, but on the pizza you do have to wait a while for it takes time to bake it since its so thick. The playground is awesome but dont know if it is still closed due to covid. They have basket ball courts and and enclosed volleyball sand cage. This is a nice family environment. I recommend it.
Service is always terrible and VERY slow. The chilli dog is nasty and has no flavor. The chilli is not good at all. Deep dish is good but very inconsistent. It really is a hit or miss. What a shame. Really want to love it. Been on several occasions and this is my conclusion.
Walked in at the same time as two other people and they got served first, I waited at least 15 minutes without the decency of at least offering just a menu and drinks to wait. The big guy server with the glasses had already noticed me and my partner while the another server walked by us. It was near closing and if waited any longer, they probably would of told us to leave. Very bad customer service, didn’t expect this for being my first time there. Never going again.
During a lunch break, a coworker and I came in for a 2 hot dog special promoted on the billboard out by the street. Wanting to try smtg new was the motivation here and the environment was lively and attractive (while business looked slow) despite the sexist and humorous quotes and expressions found in the rest rooms all over the walls. The waiter offered fries with the special and that was a pleasant surprise. However, the waiter returned and said that unfortunately the manager did not allow fries with the special. After waiting a while for only 2 hot dogs, fries were offered with the special. The confusion of whether or not fries were included was not cleared up and it made it seem that this was a one time offer that we couldnt look forward to again in a future promotion. The Chicago dogs we had were amazing! Very good dogs. But for $18+tax, Im not sure Id want to have another $10 hot dog in the future. The real disappointment was that Law Enforcement and Military benefits or discounts are not honored with this business. While the food was amazing, it was a bit over priced. Flying to Chicago and buying a wonderful Chicago dog from a street vendor for $4 instead is still a treat to look forward to. Otherwise Cordons Taste of Chicago might be an great alternative if you got the cash and are desperate for a short lived experience.
I had the Fish and Chips. The Tilapia was excellent and the fries were tasty. Definitely plenty of food. Service was fare although I was with a large group of people drinks could have been refilled a little bit faster. All in all it was great. I will recommend it to others.
Disappointed, after an hour wait our pizza(Was expected) it was over done where crust was burnt. The burnt taste was with me all the way home. Its was unfortunate visit for our friends that the staff would allow this out of the kitchen and the wait staff could only offer excuses of other parties. Overall phenomenal service expect for the excuses. Unfortunately this could stop me from retuning. 180 degrees from our last visit.
Their deep dish pizza was phenomenal! It took 45 minutes to prepare, but well worth the wait. Order ahead of time to avoid the long wait. This place has a lot of dishes to choose from I have tried their spaghetti and meatballs and it was pretty good too. There is a lot of outside recreational areas too for outdoor activities.
I really like this place. Its a good spot to get some delicious Chicago style food in the valley. Its kinda taken on a more family-friendly atmosphere in recent years, what with the whole playground in the back thing going on. That said, there are some things to be aware of as a patron. First, the food really is good, let me put that right up front. You should know that when you go makes a difference. On the weekends it gets awfully crowded, and the quality of the food cant help but suffer a bit as the kitchen tries to keep up. During these times it can get pretty noisy, too. If youre taking a family with kids, the environment works. However, if you enjoy eating solo in relative peace, maybe try going between lunch and dinner during the wee, like in the late afternoon. Thats my sweet spot for eating here. Its hard not to get the deep dish, but you owe it to yourself at some point to try the thin crust pizza, too. I got it once because I didnt have enough time to wait for the deep dish, and I was surprised at how good it was. The Italian Beef sandwich is also awesome. But do try their deep dish first - its their signature dish, and its fantastic. Worth the wait, and big enough to have leftovers to take home, even for two.
I had pizza & enjoyed it very much. Very good for thinner crust, not very thin (which I dont like) BF had Chicago dog, expected it to be a little bigger but it filled him uo, so it was big enough & he liked their fries. We both ate off my salad that came with pizza, it was a nice size.First time there & we will go back.
First off let me say that our waitress was wonderful and the children loved the play area! But sadly, we were extremely disappointed in the food. We drove over an hour to come to eat here. The Chicago deep dish pizza was nothing like a Chicago pizza (I have eaten Chicago pizza in Chicago). The bread was as thin as a saltine cracker and tasted like what I imagine chicken feed to taste like. The cheese was poor quality and overwhelming. I do not recommend this restaurant for its food.
Awesome place for family and friends. My friends and u always come here after we’re done with our cycling training on the evening. We’re always welcomed back every time as if it was our first time. Device is great as well, all the young ladies and guys treat us at its finest ! The food is just what gives the place it’s final touch of gold. Highly recommend !
Well, if you have several hours to burn for a meal then I recommend this place, but if you want a meal served in a timely manner then this is not the place to go to. Half of the meal took about 2 hours and the other half, well it never made it to our table. Not returning to this place.
If you have ever been to Chicago, then youll understand why Im not a big fan of this place. The food just doesnt taste authentic. Its OK. Its not terrible...but its not what Id expect from a place advertising itself as a taste of Chicago. I have friends who grew up in Chicago and who have been here and they arent singing a different tune, either. The service is very good here. Its a cozy little place. Try it out and see for yourself
This is a business that is great because of the sum of its parts. Let me also add that the business side is done well. Im from Chicago and the ambiance here is perfect from TVs with Sports to the decoration this place has it! Kinda looks like a compound because they have a playground and sports play area in the back. Chicago is a city with a lot of history. Over the last 40 years every one of our Major Sports teams has won a title in their league (Cubs 16, BlackHawks 15 Whit Sox 2005, Bulls 91-93 and 96-98, and Bears 85). I love what theyve done to the place. All this with a Southern twist....As has become the trend lately taking after Chick-Fil-A, the staff greet you loudly on the way in and the way out! They are attentive and great and add to the ambiance. So why 4 stars....It comes down to personal preference, nothing they serve that I tasted on my one visit tasted like Chicago. The closest were the Italian Beef and the hot dog. Unfortunately I ordered a combo Beef and sausage, but I only received a beef. I tried their thin crust and it wasnt bad, but it did not taste Chicago to me. The sausage they use tastes kinda sweet almost as if it has brown sugar in it. I cannot comment on the Deep Dish. When I lived in Chicago the Deep Dish always seemed more a gimmick anyway. It didnt taste bad, but Id be willing to bet that is not Chicagoans go-to Pizza. That is a Celebration Pizza. It does look delicious in their photos. I cant recommend this place, but I will give it another try once we are all safer and I can take my kids and we can have a family night. I did prefer the beef and sausage combo at Mamas and Mama Mias in McAllen. Pretty much all pizza in the valley cannot compare to true Chicago. Lets be honest though. They have Italian delis, Butchers, stores, and authentic products that might not make it all the way down here fresh. That is certainly a consideration. This isnt a bad place and the food isnt bad, it just doesnt hold up to this old Chicagoans heart. I hear the owners might be from Chicago, but I understand their struggle. Thyeve done an excellent try to get Chicago down to the Valley.
First time here. Service was extremely inattentive. Understood, since wait staff were teens. Fettuccine Alfredo was gross (if you dont know how it should taste like then youre fine). Parmesan chicken was burnt. Marinara sauce was good. Pizza was okay. If you have quality taste for Italian cuisine this place isnt for you. If you wanna eat whatever crap and arent too picky about service then itll be fine.
Great food & cool atmosphere.Like any good restaurant, expect to wait for your order. Dont pay attention to some of negative reviews about the long wait here - these are from people who know nothing beyond Whataburger & have no sense of culture. A real restaurant is meant for you to go relax and enjoy your time with good food & company. Cordons is our favorite place for just that, especially since we really miss Chicago. Staff is wonderful & friendly. They have a decent selection of wine & beer. We love this place!
Good size portions. Their cheese sticks and chicken parm are really good. A little bit on the pricy side. It also gets packed at night and it might be hard to get your waiters/waitresses attention in the sea of people. Overall I would recommend it if you want to try some new Italian food
Excellent food....Not exactly Chicago style....but very good. Wait staff are very attentive and friendly. Booth seats suck. Very lumpy and deep swells that suck your buttocks to floor level. It reminds me of the drizzly but humid Tuesday morning, that my mother decided to stop breast feeding me and begin potty training, and I magnanimously protested both of her very selfish decisions. But I digress!!! Next time I will sit at a table and chair.
We were greeted by servers immediately as we walked in and seated just as fast. The overall service was friendly and our server made periodic rounds to make sure our needs were attended to. I ordered the calzone which I was pleased with. It was cooked to order and they made no mistake. My friends ordered a pepperoni and a deep dish pizza. Their pepperoni pizza was fantastic and on par with the pizzas at other recognized local pizzerias. However, I was disappointed in the deep dish pizza. It is hyped up by being advertised as Chicago style deep dish pizza taking almost an hour to make. Unfortunately the wait was not worth it, the marinara sauce overpowered the cheese, crust and pepperoni and left little else to taste. Although I got the calzone the main reason my friends and I came to Cordons was to try the deep dish pizza. It just underwhelming. We got vanilla cheesecake for dessert which was amazing. Overall good experience, would return, and would recommend
First time being here and the food was great (pizza, calzones, and salad). Outside they have a lot of play areas for the kids. A playground, beach volleyball, basketball court, and mini soccer field. We sat in the patio so I cannot comment on the inside of the restaurant. Kids play free with a purchase of a meal or pay $5 for a bracelet to play all you want. There were lots of kids having fun while we were there as well as another kids birthday party.
Not a great experience. I have eaten here before and found the service very slow and the food overpriced. We were here using the banquet facilities. 3 choices were Chicken Parmesan, Cheese Steak Sandwich or Lasagna. The Lasagna tasted as if it came out of the frozen food section of a supper market. One person at our table did not get his meal. We asked about it four times and were told it was coming. About 45 min after everyone had been served they brought over a dish that had been left on another table and was cold and offered it. We said no and a hot dish finally came out an hour after everyone else. The attitude was that they made the correct number of meals and it was out fault for not distributing them properly.I will never go back to eat here.
Best place in Texas to go for Chicago food all authentic the pizza, the Italian beef family friendly great customer service shout out to the owner for coming out speaking to my family they really welcome us we will be back soon keep up the great work guys Bears Down 🐻⬇️
Terrible experience 4/22/17Went for first time after hearing so much about the pizza. Came out running! Pizza is nothing to brag about, over hyped!!!! The shock came when we got the bill. See I asked for a small cup if mozzarella cheese but was given 4. My sister ordered salad and when she asked for extra salad dressing she too was given 4 small cups. She asked for extra cucumber and she was brought 2 cups with 3 slice each. My nephew ordered a refill but ordered tea since the sprite was to sweet. Are you guys at home adding $$$???. My son ordered a chicken strip plate which comes with a drink. Well when it was all said and done we were charged $1 per cup of dressing +4, $1 per cup of mozzarella +4, plus $1 per cup of cucumber +2, plus refill $2.49, plus the drink that was supposed to be included with kids meal + $2.49 and you got $15 of charges that were wrongly charged or were never told were extras. $15.00 and the pizza well Peter Pipers is better! Next time you want good pizza without hidden charges try Russos.
We love this place! Family friendly when we go with our 2 year old and great for our date night too. Weve had much on the menu and have never been dissapointed, the servers are always friendly and attentive, and remember us everytime we go in. Very small town feel which we love. Prices are reasonable and its clean when we go so I dont know what those other people are talking about, its a great place. We lived in Chicago for a while and yes the tastes are pretty dead on or at least very close to eating back in chicago.
Attentive, friendly service. Very clean and spacious. Tvs for sports and a patio. Cool chicago deco. My dad and I ate 2 different hot dogs and liked them. Inexpensive and filling. The fries were not greasy and had sea salt? I will be going again to try the pizza, pasta, and apps! I recommend!
My family has worked so hard to turn this restaurant into a family oriented atmosphere, because that is what they believe to be the most important thing in life, family. I believe all restaurants go through growing pains and learn how to improve as they go on. I believe constructive criticism is the best way to guarantee a pleasant experience or change the next time around. I know them, and truly believe they would work at fixing anything that is legitimately wrong. They appreciate every single customer that walks in the door and want to provide the most favorable experience for all. I truly thank all of you for taking the time to provide feedback, it is greatly appreciated!!
While visiting McAllen on Business went with a group that wanted to try Chicago Pizza. Asked the waiter if pizza was true Chicago deep dish and he said it was. Knowing what we wanted he did not inform us that we accidentally order a regular pizza nor did he care afterwards. He had a very arrogant attitude and was completely indifferent that we were dissatisfied. He argued with us and did not offer to fix the situation. He said he worked there since the place opened but could not explain the beer menu. When he brought the beer mugs, the waiter passed them to us holding them with his grubby hands around the rim instead of by the handles. One of our group broke a glass on the table and the waiter left it there the whole time we were eating. Terrible experience! Our group of 5 left a $60 tip the previous night at another restaurant but we left no tip this time. It’s a shame because the food was not bad.
We came here 2 wks ago and after eating some delicious breaded wings and a pepperoni mushroom calzone ...we felt guilty we hadnt brought the monsters to enjoy it with us.Today we finally brought them and so far they love it. Even tho both times our server has effd up our order with minor stuff ..the food makes up for their mistakes tenfold. All the kids wanted more of the fried macaroni and fried mushroomsThe deep dish pepperoni pizza was delish but i wish they had brought it out to us as soon as it came out...hellla hottt and melty..i think they waited for the wings to finish cooking...I dont think id go anywhere else for a while ...they have too many options we wanna try everythinnnnnng!
Experience could be better. Was more fo a family setting great for kids to have fun outside. Benches outside were old and ours broke as we were sitting and you see the age in them and that was all the benches. For a place that big knowing the amount of customers they should think about having a bigger kitchen to serve the amount of clientel they obviously know they have. Food took a while and was barely warm but did taste good. An outside bar would be great so the poor waitresses dont have far to walk and take forever for large groups
Went for CHICAGO STYLE DEEP DISH PIZZA. CALLED AHEAD TO START THE 45 MINUTES... TO HAVE IT HOT WHEN WE WERE THERE. Still had to wait 20 minutes. And it obviously had been out of oven most of that time because mozzarella was already getting solid instead of oozing out as it does fresh out of the oven. Really took some of the enjoyment out of lunch. Never happened when Julia was the mgr. New man in charge couldnt be bothered to even check in with us (only 1 other tablefull at time) NO EXCUSE!##!!!###!!!!
Ill keep this review short and simple:The food here is great, the service is prompt and courteous, and the atmosphere is definitely thematic.I had the tex mex chicken sandwich and it was quite possibly the greatest chicken sandwich Ive ever had. A+, would definitely recommend to anyone.
Well six months ago your Italian beef was the best and delicious just like Chicago style were but since you closed because of the covid 19 and then you opened up again you changed something on the Italian beef because the ones I have bought lately your beef has lost the taste and they are not like before so I dont know what you changed so I wish you would go back on the way you were cooking the beef 6 months ago because now your beef does not have no taste at all, I am so sorry cordons.
Come here if you plan to order water and maybe fries. I went to the back to tall to the manager and it was just SO DIRTY.The sweet tea was just about the worst Ive had in my life then I ordered a freaking hot dog like they cant mess that up right? Wrong. Even the ketchup tasted rotten and to top it off the service was crap.
Dear fellow reviewers, I just gotta say my family works very hard to provide great food and a great experience at Cordons. If u may have not been satisfied come in and give us another shot, we really enjoying seeing all our customers come in and enjoy a great meal. We have our great play area with basketball court, sand volleyball, kids play ground, and stage. We will soon be adding a batting cages, and outdoor brick oven , so our customers can kick back and get that brick oven Chicago taste.
It was the bomb! We have been looking for Chicago style dogs and polish. This is the place. If you been to Chicago and have eaten Vienna polish dogs and Chicago dogs you will know. This is the closest you will get to Chicago dogs. Delish, friendly service, nice Chicago memorabilia, nice atmosphere.
Poor service. The food was cold. Their ovens broke, so we could not order pizza. The workers were blaming all this because they received lots of customers. That is RIDICULOUS!!!! I will not be returning to this place. Plus, the price on the menu items was outrageous!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!
My kids always have a blast here, but our last visit was horrible. To begin with, the server Ruby was extremely unwelcoming and rude. Then, I was given a glass bottle that was broken at the neck. Unfortunately, I didnt realize it until I was taking a drink. The server just laughed and gave me a new bottle. And to top it off, I was being charged an additional 4 drinks that I did not order. SMH
My second visit was so disappointing. As we drove up a person stop us in the car as we deov1 in,to tell us that they had a large party in there party room and we would have a long wait. I was taken back that this restaurant would do that. We had family waiting inside for us inside so we went in just to be stopped at the table and told that our order would take 40min.We always support local business for all our events and family occasions and had planned to speak to them about having an event there but i changed my mind. We will not be back😔
Was not happy with the service or food when I went on Wednesday. They took forever to bring our food out and there wasn’t even that many people. Plus the servers were rude. One person from my group asked for a high chair to take outside and they didn’t want to let her take it out. Pizza took almost an hour to come out and was burnt.
I have to leave 1 star cause I cant rate less ....service was horrible, waitress took a long time with our drinks, appetizers, jalapenos ranch etc. Wasnt even busy at the time we went. She was watching the football game on tv screaming at the cowboys game. Only good thing about our visit was the beer (really cold) oh and cowboys won the game.
WORST SERVICE EVER. I am going today to call the cops on the store. Our waiter was a man my husband knew from high school. He was extremely disrespectful kept calling my husband bro and dude, we never got a refill. We left no tip today i check the bank balance and he charged a 20 dollar tip to our total?!!?!?! we are going today if not resolved we will be calling the police save your money and go to a restaurant that will not rob you.
DO NOT EAT HERE. Ok food, bad service and BE WARNED they charge an 18% gratuity on EACH ticket which they say is not mandatory but they charge it which means it is. The service wasnt worth 18%, on the two tickets we had they got a total of $20. Which not all is going to the waitress. Never again will we be returning. We eat every Friday all over McAllen and Edinburg never had this happen to us. Then the owner tried to make the practice sound normal which it is not. If I could put 0 stars I would.
Cordons Chicago pizza is nothing like Chicago pizza, our kids and I nearly choked on how much cheese the pizza had and this is coming from cheese lovers. The wait time was 45 minutes and not worth it at all. Overporiced pizza. You can get better pizza from Little Caesars.
I got a burger that was 12 dollars so i was expecting it to be huge for the price and for it to be perfect, but i was disappointed the burger was the size of an appetizer, the buns were burnt, and the meat bland...completely underseasoned. Why go here when you can go to whataburger and get a burger 3 times the size for less money and you wont have to wait 30 minutes for it
Refused to take my order over the phone with Door Dash. They said it would be an hour. I said thats fine. They called back to inform me that Cordons is not taking any phone orders for the next two hours. Cordons gets a one star for refusing to even take an order. Who does that? How rude.
The Staff Is The Worst!!! - Im talking about the ignorance of the waiting staff, nothing to do with the people behind the counter... Never Planning On Going Back, unless they get actual waiters that want to work & understand the business instead of hiring unreliable relatives! - Really Wish I Could Give Them NO STARS...
In October i went to Cordons for lunch and i had a swiss and mushroom hamburger that was literally to die for. So fresh ! The bun was delicious, all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I noticed while i was there that they played some sports games on their big screen tvs. So when the world series was getting ready to be played, i had hoped to watch it on my pc, as i dont have cable tv. Well, my lousy pc would not let me get it. So I called Cordons and asked them if they would be playing the world series. They said yes, i asked if it would be ok if i came in to watch the game and only get a drink,. They were so courteous and kind and said of course, you would be most welcome. i got there for the second game and got my drink and sat in a booth. pretty soon a lovely waitress named Julie brought me an order of french fries...on the house !! They invited me to return to watch the rest of the series there and i did. And after the first night, they never let me pay for my drink again, and every employee was courteous, kind, and just plain FUN. They really made me feel SO welcome, and as everyone knows now the Giants took the series ,, they let me stay till the end of the game, and Julie and i jumped and hugged as the Giants won it. I have never had such a fun week in years!! If you want to take your family to a restaurant that offers fantastic food at a reasonable price served by fun and friendly employees, this is the place to go. You can have big parties out back where there is a basketball court and a soccer court. I am telling you, if i am ever asked out to eat, CORDONS TASTE OF CHICAGO IS THE PLACE TO GO ! THANK YOU ALL FOR LETTING ME WATCH THE SERIES AND FOR PAYING FOR MY DRINK ! YOU GUYS ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today was the first time me and my hubby visited Cordons I have to say not only was the pizza and onion rings and salad delicious but the service was excellent Isabel took good care of us thank you to the owner for your humble employees and since we lived in Chicago many years ago we felt right at home all your pictures and painting were awesome, Sincerely Kathy Vallez from Walgreens Edinburg.

2022-03-27The Mac and cheese bites dont look impressive but its mac and cheese thats breaded and deep fried and theyre pretty good. The chicken Alfredo is enough for one person so you wont bust any buttons over eating and I liked that it had spinach and mushrooms in the sauce. I had some sweet tea and it was just right not overly sweet or bitter. Overall the atmosphere feels cozy, nothing fancy you can just be comfortable and relax while you enjoy a good meal thats not going to break you wallet. Staff was friendly too.

2021-12-14We been looking for a good pizza place and we hit the jackpot the pizza was good had my children quite and they are big critics. the pizza pie is a must we had chicken and veggies in ours it was big had leftover for lunch and it was still good the kids had a 16 inc it was to big for them as well but the people are nice it’s a family business so good atmosphere. The big play area is crazy a park, basketball, volleyball, soccer and siting area if you was to have a party back that it was so cool. Its $5 just to come in chill in the back and it’s Free if you eating there. So go check this place out tell them Grant family send you ❤️ and the front host is cool I think she is the niece of the uncle she is cool broke down the history for me she a sweet heart

2021-10-10Nice place for the kids to hang out for special occasions. The menu has plenty of choices for all. The pizza was delicious. The fried mushrooms needed more flavor. Service was great the reason I gave my visit 4-Stars, however the Server was alone the night I was there. The owners should provide her a cart to carry items and it would make it easier for her to carry more orders per trip. There should be more staff to observe the kids playing for their safety. I saw several kids doing unsafe activities. The big swing fell because there were too many kids (Teens) on it. There should be water fountains or sports size water thermos area. Most kids cant afford to pay $1.25 per 16oz water bottle. It is hot and they need water to prevent Heat Exhaustion or worse Heat Stoke.

2021-11-08We ate an early lunch during a weekday, so not very many patrons. Very friendly service. My wife loved the chicken alfredo. The Anthony sandwich was also very good. Nice casual atmosphere and Chicago feel. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely come back.

2021-11-11The atmosphere was nice, the place was clean. I ordered spaghetti and wings and gyro sandwich to share. The spaghetti could use some flavor, it tasted like the sauce came from a can. The wings were great but small and the sandwich was good. The bread was soft and fresh.

2022-05-14I had not been to Cordons in years! We were craving pasta and decided to enjoy dinner at this restaurant. To start, we tried the Sears Tower Cheese Sticks. They were so plump and tasty! As my entrée, I had the Slammin Sammys Lasagna. It is home-made lasagna noodles layered with marinara, ground beef, mozzarella cheese, and ricotta cheese. It was good.My friend had the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. It is Fettuccine pasta with Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken breast, spinach, and mushrooms. Fortunately, he shared some with me for the sake of this review :) IT WAS SO DELICIOUS! Next time, Ill order this instead!Alcoholic beverages are limited at Cordons -- cocktails, specifically. I tried the Fresh Fruit House Sangría. I wasnt too impressed with the presentation or the taste. We ordered a bottle of rosè by mistake. Luckily, it was a good wine.PS: SERVICE IS SLOW on a Friday afternoon for dinner.

2021-09-03Honestly... the quality of the food is good, but theres several large flaws here.So my wife and I wanted to try something different..we both ordered hot dogs (Polish/Chicago style).I love wings so I ordered the bone-in...and heres the first huge flaw. It says 6 wings for $10...6 wings for $10? For that price it better be the full wing and not the party type...well it was the party type. 6 small wings...when you have local places who offer 20 same size wings for say $18...huge turn-off. The wings were actually quite good...nice and crispy. The sauces were good...but I felt robbed at that price.Heres another issue...it felt like the hot dogs were held back to wait on the other food. Hot dogs are quick...or should be. You only heat up the dog...we waited about 30 min for those hot dogs...BUT they were quite nice. The dogs were probably half pound...the flavor was tasty. But 30 min wait for hot dogs? The pastas were for the kids and they were good...had the right amount of sauce and they werent too doughy.Service was also really lacking that day...we went during the week so it wasnt even full..but they only had 2 waitresses. We sat down and waited for over 5 min before even being acknowledged...are they short staffed? The place seems to be a combination of quality ingredients and food mixed with sub-standard service and definitely over priced wings. What do you value more?

2022-04-12(This was my second time here now and the food is just great everyone should try and go if you love Windy City food.) Im from Illinois oh, and have been trying to find a place that serves Italian beef sandwich for 7 months. This is the place to go to if you want Chicago style food in the RGV
