CRAFT in other cities:
The staff here was incredibly helpful and kind! It was our first time in the store and we weren’t sure what to expect. There was a huge range of supplies and tools for us to use. Everything was well organized and taken care of. We will definitely be back for our next project!
LOVE this place. The owner and women who work here are extremely kind and helpful, and the vibe of the place is perfect for casual crafting with friends or even on your own. The first time I came in, I arrived without an idea of what to make, which was fun and spontaneous. The second visit, I brought a shirt from Goodwill to decorate with all the materials and supplies at CRAFT. BYOB is lovely. Highly recommended.
I get really excited about costumes.Making them, wearing them... Getting tons of compliments from strangers while walking around in them.Since discovering Craft, Ive been spending at least 8 hours a week here, using their awesome facilities and supplies to make some seriously awesome stuff.Their junk drawers are treasure troves of creative inspiration, and the stuff I see people make from random bits is awe inspiring.Super amazing staff, really incredible space... Highly recommend. We do the unlimited membership since its the best value.Hope to see ya there!
The idea behind CRAFT is a walk-in arts and crafts facility for adults. Its $10/hr to walk in or $40/mo for a membership (minimum 3 month commitment required). They provide all the materials needed for a variety of crafting like painting, drawing, dying fabric, jewelry making, sewing, etc. You go craft and they clean everything up. They also have employees and instructors on hand to offer guidance when needed. I took two watercolor classes here. One was galaxy painting and the other was floral painting. The instructor, Elena, was wonderful, and the owner of the store, Eli, was so helpful and cheerful. Snacks and beverages were provided as well as all the materials needed to learn basic techniques and paint a finished product to take home. All of the participants received a gift certificate for 1 free hour of crafting. I really enjoyed the experience and will definitely go back.
This was an awesome girls night out for my roommate and I! Ellie was so welcoming, helpful, cute and just so FUN! We had a blast making crafts and using all the supplies she had. I think its a great deal to pay by the hour, considering how many tools you get to use while youre there. Ellie also stayed a half hour after closing time with us just to make sure we were able to finish up our projects. She rocks and I will definitely be going back!
This is a craft paradise. They offer classes that can teach you something youve been wanting to try. At the end of class they give you a voucher for a free hour of craft time. They provide all the supplies you made need. Keep in mind the items they receive is donated, so if there is something specific you need I would call and ask or bring it in yourself. It is also BYOB. Also no kids are allowed. Totally in Love with this place and its concept.
I love this space! Its so open, friendly and inspires lot of creativity. I could see how you could spend hours just playing with all the incredible supplies they have. Im not an advanced crafter by any means, but it seems like they probably have something for everyone. Ive been to several events here, and I appreciate how involved the owners are with the community and making Austin and the world a truly better place to live, outside of being supporters of our artistic sides!Support this awesome, local, women-owned biz!
So I happened upon this place yesterday. I was looking for someone to do some work on wood for me and this came up in Google search. I read what this place was about and decided to try it. When I got there the staff were very kind and showed me around. Let me tell you this place is AMAZING! They encouraged me to try and make something on my own. Im so glad I listened! They had everything you could possibly think of that you may need to start, finish, or even just have fun on any project. I encourage you to find out yourself and go! It was so much fun and my project came out better than I expected. This is truly a great place to go and Im so thankful this place exists! It was a great mini adventure for me! Thank you Elle for your help! I will be returning!
I took a silk screen printing class at Craft. And it was AWESOME!Eli was super supportive and patient and gave great instructions during the creative process. We were a group of 6 people, I think, but we all got a personal treatment and were all very pleased with the end result. Will definitely come back on my next visit.
I love Craft!! Staff is super friendly and supportive! I took a wood burning class and a few other classes here. I was also there when they had the Presidential Election Debate watch party! I have recommended this place to all of my friends, many choose to do their crafting projects for home or work here.
Ive been to Craft multiple times and its always a great place to learn and explore creatively. This past weekend we hosted a non-profit Board retreat there and it was so easy to configure the space to meet our needs. Eli Winkelman led us in an informative and easy to understand screen printing workshop. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to future event opportunities at CRAFT. Thank you!
I first came to CRAFT about a month ago for a group meeting. Not only was I astonished by the space itself (its AMAZING!), Eli was so accommodating to our group! Eli made sure that everyone felt comfortable and had a great experience. I am so happy I found this space, where I know I will always be welcome, and can bring a diverse group of people. Thanks, Eli!!
I enjoyed my experience creating here and came home with a nice little creation. That being said, it turns fairly pricey pretty quick, as they charge by the hour. I spent a good 20-30 minutes trying to decide what to make, which included the intro by a sales person to the shop, and the organization/finding of my materials. Its not structured, and there are no templates or craft ideas. So, if youre interested in making something specific, come with an idea in hand, and know what materials youll need.Make sure you dont arrive too close to closing, because the staff were very adamant about closing on time. I think they hurried us out about ten minutes before closing.
Some friends and I took a crosstitch class at Craft last week and had a great time. It was BYOB but they provided snacks and non-alcoholic beverages - this was super helpful since the class took place around dinnertime. The space was large and comfortable and definitely designed to stimulate creativity. We will definitely go back for another class, or maybe for open-crafting time.
This place is a great concept but needs better customer experience. I would NOT take a special needs person here. The staff are very uptight and would not be capable of supporting autistic / divergent thinkers. There were surprisingly a lot more rules than I had expected and not enough basic supplies. Its a cool place to spend some cash and do something crafty but is not set up for hard core crafters or artists.
I reserved 1/2 the studio for a macrame lesson/birthday party and it was SO MUCH FUN! Intentional caps. The studio concept where you come and you can use any of their tools/materials is so cool. We will definitely be back for fun group activities or personal crafting! Also Eli had everything very prepared for our lesson and to inspire creativity (tons of types of rope, plant holders, beads, etc.).
I am well overdue to review CRAFT, but we had such a great experience I just couldnt let it go. A group of girlfriends hosted part of bachelorette party at CRAFT and we had the best time. My group of friends has pretty varied interests, but I knew I wanted to so something off the beaten path, low-key, and fun to just allow us all to hang out. CRAFT fit the bill perfectly because everyone could choose exactly what they wanted to make (we made vases, collages, watercolors, jewelry boxes, macrame, greeting cards with envelopes -- all kinds of things that I never thought you could actually craft!).Eli was nothing short of AMAZING! Such a gracious host, she opened up the space for us on a Tuesday when I believe they are normally closed, stayed with us past our scheduled time to allow us to finish some projects. She also taught us all how to use the tools we needed to make what we wanted, and answered ENDLESS questions (I mean non-stop, every 10 seconds for 4 hours). One of the girls even ended up buying some watercolor pencils (I believe these were just part of the materials, but she wanted them so badly and Eli was very accommodating). There is such a wealth of materials here to use and Eli is so encouraging and inspiring that even the least creative among us (my MOH and I) came away with original crafts that we could be proud of. For the event we were also able to bring in food, play our own music, and just have a ton of fun hanging out. Not to mention, you can feel good about up-cycling some materials into something new for yourself or friends, and finally you dont have to clean up (we all know that is seriously the worst part of crafting)! Finally, I believe the cost for the event was something like $25/person for the full 4 hours, including materials. This may not be 100% accurate as I did not pay, but I do recall being shocked by how low it was when my MOH mentioned it. I would have paid a minimum of $40 (and probably more) without ever thinking twice.CRAFT is in this huge warehouse, so when you first pull up it may feel like youre in the wrong place but just keep going. We felt there was ample parking, and just can not say enough good things about our time here. I can not wait to go back for a class, or even just to have another girls night. Go go go, you will not be disappointed!
This is easily one of my favorite places in Austin. You can make whatever you want with a massive collection of arts and crafts supplies. Dont have an idea? They have gumball machines with notes to provide inspiration. Dont know how to use a particular tool? Someone will show you! Dont want to clean up your paper scraps and glue blobs? You dont have to! (But dont be a slob.) CRAFT is a perfectly interactive and creative date idea. They also host classes and workshops. Best of all, its a no pressure, no judgement zone so you can make whatever you want no matter what your skill level and someone will tell you its awesome because simply going through the process of making something IS awesome.
Loved my time at CRAFT. A friend and I were from out of town and fate brought us to Eli. She was an absolute gem coming in to teach a class after being deathly sick the day before. Her instructions were easy to follow and she always gave you 1-1 attention if there was any questions on your project.Highly recommend anyone to go to CRAFT. Whether youre a local or visitor this place is amazing. She also made sure to give a few local places for us to check out on our trip!! Thanks Eli!! We loved Castle Hills.
Groupon found me another great hidden gem. I was there for their screenprinting class. It was an intimate class of 7 where we screenprinted cards and two fabric items. The two owners were very helpful in guiding us through the process and giving ideas/tips.They have plenty of supplies that you can use for $10/hour--stamps, paints, glitter, quilling paper, washi tape--whatever speaks to you. Ill definitely be back for my next creative hankering because I end up buying so many craft supplies that I use only once. The best part is they clean up the mess for you!
Im an amateur/novice/beginner/whats a glue gun. Like, really. But I went with a couple friends who are def creative geniuses. We all had an incredible time at CRAFT! The open concept of any tool, any medium, any idea is inviting and well-executed. Staff is beyond friendly (but not in a creepy, get out of my space way) and just excited to see art be created. A trip to Austin isnt really complete without a visit to CRAFT!
Not only is this a great crafting studio, it is a FABULOUS co-working space for a creative. I love working in this space with so much inspiration around me in the environment and in the people. If you are looking for a creative space to create, write or think - this is for you!
Popped in while waiting for friends at a nearby restaurant, and it was the perfect way to kill time. They have everything you need to get crafty and have fun. They show you around when you first get there and help you throughout your time there if you are looking for anything special, or dont know what type of glue to use (who knew there were so many glue options?!). I will go back and look into taking a class or two with them!
Last month, I planned a bachelor party in Austin for a group of late 30’s professional guy who, I knew have been on one too many debauched bachelor parties previously. I didn’t want to keep playing the hits. It’s not my style. I stumbled upon Craft and , Eli (owner/operator) helped me to create what, all the attendees agree, was the single most fun, unique, original, bachelor party events that they have ever done.I came across Craft just searching around the internet for interesting, ‘keep-it-weird’ type places. I was lucky to stumble upon this unique arts and crafts studio. If you’re reading this, you’re lucky too! I wracked my brain trying to figure out how to make use of this place for a dozen guys. A great idea came to me, I wonder if they’ll let us sketch a nude model.I called the owner Eli, and after we chatted and easily connected, she was convinced that this was actually a sketching event- not a sketchy event. Give her credit for trusting her instincts and vetting me, which I insisted she do.Eli helped us find a model. She went out of her way to build us horses- the thing you sit on and rest your easel on, Eli stocked the place with the booze of our choice. She even brought in an art instructor to guide the event. So, here’s how it went downThe guys showed up, unbeknownst to what they were really there to do. Eli played along and we told them that they were making center pieces for the wedding tables. They goy PUNKED! When they went in the back room for glitter - it was set up for the sketching event and they were greeted by our model. Who gave them the real story and laid down the ground rules too.We had a blast sketching the model. Even the guys who had no talent for it still had fun. Eli made sure our drinks were full. She also made sure that everyone had the needed materials, and was comfortable. She makes you feel at home. The space is really unique. A messy, tussle of unique supplies and good vibes. I would highly Craft to anyone or any group who has their own idea for an event or just wants to spend a day fueling that creative fire.Thank you Eli & Thank you craft. I hope I can get back soon.
Walking into the petite Craft house, my girlfriend and I didn’t know what to expect. We thought “Why make crafts here when you can just make them at home?”In the house, we saw random glass Coke bottles, old doors and windows, canvases, and a tire rim (say what?). Upon arrival, Elisabeth, the owner, gave us a fun and unique tour of the house. My brain was spinning wildly from all the different inspiring craft decorations. I loved how Craft reused old materials to create unique objects and used them as decorations throughout the house (the black widow spider ceiling light, glass table filled with marbles, etc.).Putting on an apron, I felt like a true artist. At first I shyly grabbed random materials, unsure of what to make. But minutes later the people around me were in their own zone; people started painting, gluing things, making ornaments, creating cards, etc. which was an awesome sight to see. I love how Craft provides all the tools and materials for everyone. If you think about it, utilizing Craft’s space is far cheaper and convenient than buying all the materials yourself. My girlfriend was obsessed with the scoring board, which helped her make little place cards. Even though my finished project didn’t turn out the way I imagined I am still very proud of it and immediately hung it on my wall when I got back home. Another great thing about Craft is that they clean up for you afterwards; no need to put away any of the materials you used. Craft is a place where you just have to go to understand the concept, how it works, and why it’s awesome.I want to thank Elisabeth, Colin, and Rebecca for the help and inspiration in making this a fun crafty event. Elisabeth…we will definitely be back! Elmer’s Glue rules!!!
I stumbled upon Craft during a week long vacation. I was walking down S. 1st and thought I had died and gone to heaven when I walked in and found out it was a walk in arts and crafts studio. I am always looking for unique experiences when I travel and Craft fit the bill. I am not artistic so I thought I would just make a collage until I saw some examples of paper quilling. Elisabeth taught me how to quill and it was awesome. I made a card with a photo of a horse, a google eye, quilled paper and glittery alphabet stickers. I had a total blast! It was the best ten dollars I have ever spent! If you are traveling in Austin as an adult, I would totally suggest visiting. Craft would be the perfect place for parents traveling with kids who need a creative break from sightseeing and I can imagine it being perfect for anyone living in Austin who wants a fun hour or so. Elisabeth and Colin are totally awesome and you will adore Craft!

2018-07-28My partner and I came here for a wonder screen printing class with Eli. While hes an artist, Im far from it and to be honest, I wasnt expecting a lot from myself. Eli and CRAFT made me feel empowered and confident in what I was doing and I think we both left with some pretty great work! Ill definitely be back soon to take some more classes and for trying out some of my new found skills in their shop!

2018-04-03Enjoyed the two workshops I experienced and the one walk-in and create. However, here’s the thing with the walk-in and create ... it’s better to have a plan of what you want to design because it’s charged per hour. Now, the hour fee is responsible but having something ticking in the background feels like pressure, at least for me.It was helpful that I knew the facility a bit more because I did a workshop before hand. Some people may like to create on the fly and others, like me, who are new at making art may feel better and more organized with a plan.

2017-12-14I am always looking for fun new ideas for client events and CRAFT gave me just what I needed. Eli did a fantastic job with our screen printing workshop and was so patient with all of our special requests! Not only do I plan on hosting more events at CRAFT, I most certainly plan to use the space for my own crafting needs in the future. My only regret is that I didnt know this place existed sooner!!!

2021-09-09This place is like having free time in an ideal art classroom but without the teacher or kids. It’s a place for adults who maybe wanna unwind with their significant other painting or doing something creative without having to buy all the things like paint brushes, paint, stamps, canvas, it’s got the material you just donate for the time your there and fun and done

2021-12-24I took a screen-printing class here, but I mostly go here to escape my cats so I can draw in peace, and I love this place. It is a great space to be surrounded by folks working on cool/fun/cute projects. Eli is a creative hero, does an excellent job welcoming everyone in and making sure they can find all the supplies they need (even supplies they didnt know they needed) and she has a deep reservoir of craft knowledge.Whether you are casually trying to make a little something for an occasion, have more serious or professional craft goals, or are like me and just want to be surrounded by a lot of positive creative energy as you draw, I would highly recommend Craft.

2016-10-28Craft is the perfect rainy day activity or Bumble BFF date. Im not super creative or crafty normally but all of the materials available really inspired me to make something cool and useful. The staff is friendly and helpful and can give you some ideas. They even have succulents available for $2-4 extra, which is what I used.

2017-11-11Ive done a couple of classes here and I love it. Whether youre trying to learn something new or just tap into your creative side during open crafting time, this is a place where an adult can do what only kids normally get to do... but with NO KIDS AROUND. Bring your own bottle of wine (they have glasses) and make some art!

2018-09-18I tool a class here to learn how to arrange flowers. It was informative and fun. We got to take the flowers home and we learned aome great tips! This location offers a variety of crafting classes and has open crafting as well. They have everything you could think of to create a masterpiece! They provided sparkling water and snacks for the class and you can BYOB. Theyll let you use thwir fridge or you can bring a cooler. There is also a super cute restaurant in the same area and lots of outdoor seating. This is a great way to spend a few hours with friends. Open crafting os $10an hour and the flower class was $65 a person.

2022-05-15OH. MY. GOD.We had so much fun here. I wish we had this where I live. What a lovely concept for community crafting!
