We decided to get off of the interstate to find lunch and ended up at Cypress Street Station. The hostess and waitress were friendly and the service was pretty quick. The bathrooms were clean. My husband enjoyed the Texas Storm wrap. I had the Thai chicken salad. The grilled chicken was good and the greens were fresh. I think the dressing could have had a little more vinegar and a little more kick but it wasnt bad.
Pretty underwhelming food. Got the Big J Burger with bacon and pulled pork. Bacon was overcooked, Pork was very dry and bland, and the beef didnt even taste seasoned. The fries were okay I guess, but if Im going to be paying 17 dollars for a burger. Id expect a 17 dollar burger. I can get something tastier from whataburger for half the price.
We only had one night in the adorable town of Abilene. We were referred to Cypress Street Station. Our meal was absolutely amazing!!! Crystal our bartender and wait staff was friendly, efficient and beautiful. The General Manager Mathew came by to introduce himself and make sure we were enjoying our delicious meal. Support local and come visit this incredible restaurant! You won’t be disappointed 🤗🤗🤗
Cypress Street Station has long been a staple of fine dining in Abilene. For any who doubt whether this has continued after the sudden tragic loss of the former owner, rest assured the current owners are carrying on the friendly vibes and high quality as they establish themselves as excellent restauranteurs and great community members. Both of our entrees were superb and the selection of beverages was comprehensive. We highly recommend CSS.
Cypress Street is a staple of food establishments in Abilene. I always enjoy the atmosphere and the food is consistently good.Had a burger today, it was great! Make sure you add the bacon, makes it even better.Affordable, great atmosphere, excellent service, and good food earns this 5 stars.
Not a fan. Scallops came out fairly cold and burnt, although large in size, presentation was cheap looking. The filet was tender, yet dry, and lacked flavor. Stepdaughters meat loaf was over cooked and did not enjoy it. The inside appearance doesnt inspire much confidence either. No music, lack of staff personality...simply bland all around. No one was rude at all just bland. However, excellent bartender. Good drinks, good mixology. For the markup price, Ill stay away from now on.
We sat at the bar and the ladies there were extremely friendly and accommodating. They took my food allergy seriously (I was allergic to nearly everything on the menu) and worked with me to make sure I could have a safe a delicious meal. I recommend the lighthouse pasta. Literally the best cooked scallops Ive had off-coast and certainly one of the best, period. The gals recommended a lovely cocktail the sidecar that I loved. Great experience and will be visiting again next time I am in Abilene.
This is a downtown anchor. A destination is a great benefit tabbling. Items on the menu are well presented, thought out, and executed. Great options so many that its hard to try them all on a regular basis.. the bar is great but this is a place that just demands that you come often.
Absolutely delectable! Excellent service, nice menu variety for appetizers, entrées and desserts. They have an extensive wine selection, craft beer on draft and hand crafted cocktails. You could not have dinner in a better location in Abilene. It is located on a quaint street near other entertainment. We had the Crab Cocktail appetizer, Boudin Meatloaf, Popper Pork Chop and Creme Brulee for dessert.Every bite was amazingly delicious!Whether you live in or around Abilene or just driving through, we highly recommend this unique restaurant.
My family and I sat down for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday. I come to this restaurant almost every year during the calf festival and occasional date nights, and always enjoy their food and atmosphere. This year was the first year after covid we attended both venues, and after a delicious meal and some cooling off, our server Zane gave us our check, I paid with my debit card and left a cash tip, because to me, cash is more concrete and accessible than leaving off a debit card. As we left, the manager stopped my partner to chat about an issue, I wasn’t sure what the conversation was, I thought it may have to do with something else. So my kids and I waited outside for my partner, he informed me that the manager was very rude and treated him poorly about the tip for the server. So I went inside, as I’m the one that paid for the meal, because I feel as a server you know your table, the people sitting there, and ultimately who is paying for the meal. I addressed the issue with the manager and I told him the cash was pinned on the inside of the receipt with the pen I signed the receipt with, so it would not be dropped. The manager proceeds to look high and low under tables and finally addresses our server Zane, after some time in the back of the kitchen he comes out and apologizes but only for “advocating” for their servers and making sure they are tipped. First, I understand tipping for a service well done, but after the accusations for NOT tipping as we did tip, I wished I would have asked for that tip back. You manager and server Zane on duty the date of June 11,2021 between the time of 1:52 and 3, were an absentminded, disrespectful, and a sexism/race discriminating duo. Advocating for your servers is a practice I respect, however there are respectful ways to get that across to customers who DON’t usually tip, not customers who do tip. We won’t be attending this venue, nor will I keep recommending this place to newcomers from out of town. This after experience we had has left the worst taste and completely wiped the good eating experience we had.
Just visited my favorite burger place, Cypress Street Station. They certainly do more than burgers, but they are the only ones that nail the perfect cook temperature every time. My friend ordered the pork chop and it was fantastic, too. This is class act dining every time. Thanks Terry and Amanda!
Awesome food selection. Everything tasted amazing, especially the mushroom and sausage soup of the day. Several beer options; however, online showed this place had their own beers, but, they do not and only serve other beers. They carry about 8-10 local draft options, but have several wine and mixed drink selections. Definitely worth trying out
An excellent choice for lunch or dinnerA knowledgeable, friendly, professional staff that serves fresh dishes from terrific lunch and dinner menus, with daily specials. The owners are are on the floor; engaged and engaging.Sommelier on staff, with a well stocked cellar. The best line up of Irish Whisky Ive had the pleasure of sampling, and Ive tipped a few in the great taverns of Boston. All of your favorite spirits of all varieties and a nice collection of local beers on tap.A great experience for date night, business get together or just a few friends out and about.
Super disappointed. Ordered food for two and given the reviews expected much more. Maybe the lunch menu is just not the thing to go for. Burger looked like a frozen patty. We ordered the calamari with sauce on the side, you shouldnt have to drown your food for it to have any flavor and the breading has none, not even salt to taste. Fries were soggy, and so were the fish and chips. I understand that condensation builds in containers, but good god. We picked it up on time and live less than a mile from this place. Total miss.
Sophisticated, yet down to earth kind of place. Excellent service, excellent food and drinks; very reasonable prices. Maddy (our server) was super friendly and treated my wife and I well. Matthew (the general manager) was there and made it a point to come out and see how our food and service was. He also treated us very well!! We’ll definitely be back!!
Our server, Duke, was knowledgeable and respectful. There was a list of a dozen or so craft beers on tap. I enjoyed my choice of the vanilla porter. My wife looked her chicken salad. I chose with a standard house half pound hamburger with bacon. This came with home-fried potato chips, which were delicious. Our appetizer, the fried green tomatoes should not be overlooked. It was savory and salty and the best weve ever had. My only regret was not asking the waiter to cook my hamburger medium rare. The standard here seems to be well done, which led to a too dry burger for my taste. If youre in the Abilene area, check it out.
Wow! I cannot believe I waited so long to try Cypress! Food was excellent but I cannot commend this business enough...the service was absolutely over the top good!I made a reservation for last Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary dinner. I wanted something special for my wife and let me tell you...these guys knocked it out of the park! I spoke with Terry and he asked me a few questions, recommended Philpots for flowers, and he said well be ready for you guys. We walked in and I clearly noticed the hostess knew who we were (wife had no clue) and she walks us over to a table in the best spot in the place-beatuifully sat and ready with flowers, balloons, white table cloth and all! The server introduced himself and informed us a appetizer was on the way. Terry clearly took notes during our short conversation and had the perfect appetizer made for us...I had no clue! We enjoyed the great food-appetizer, meal, and desert was absolutely fantastic! During our meal 5 separate folks came over and congratulated us...the sincerity alone really made this experience the absolute best. We laughed together, laughed with the staff and thoroughly enjoyed itI cant say enough about this business. They set the standard for service! Cypress youve got a forever customer...the passion to serve your customers is astonishing!
Very good food. We used them for our wedding. Although they close on Sundays, the managers were eager to provide catered meals for wedding in a Sunday. The chef came in to prepare food for our small wedding of 15 people and they allowed us to use their utensils for free. We had plenty of food left over.
The relaxed atmosphere is great, most restaurants with food quality of this caliber are white linen tablecloths and stuffy. My only suggestion is that both times we have eaten there the side dishes described, the first time as roasted vegetables and second time as mashed potatoes with cheese or something and neither time did they explain why we had a rice side instead.. I am sure had I asked they would have explained, the rice side was sticky and not much flavor. The main entree, appetizers and drinks are top quality as is the hostess and wait staff. We will be back.
Absolutely amazing!! Beautiful building, great atmosphere. We had the Tuscan chicken and it was delicious! Our waitress Krystalle was so very very good! She gave us food suggestions and kept our drinks topped off, really friendly wonderful waitress! The cheesecake was to die for! Highly recommend this place!
Very relaxing atmosphere for lunch in the middle of a hectic day. Its the perfect place to enjoy a great meal and catch up with old friends. The menu was inventive and well curated. The food was prepared perfectly and was absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and provided spot-on recommendations from the menu. The creme brulee rivaled the best I have had in Paris!
The food was delicious, and the service was prompt and friendly. Our table shared the Calamari and Bruschetta, I had the Ginger Citrus Quail and finished with the Chocolate Wonder. Everything I tasted was fantastic. The alcohol in the ganache of the Chocolate Wonder could have been balanced better, but that was the only slightly negative I could find. If we return to Abilene and want a better quality meal, we will definitely be returning to Cypress Street Station.
My wife and I have tried SO many restaurants around town and this one has become our monthly date night. You won’t be disappointed by anything on the menu and I suggest always try one of the specials. Professionalism is on point. Manager came to our table about 4 times. Waiter/bartender came to our table at key opportunities to fill our drinks but not intrude on our conversations. (Good job Jackson) all in all, best restaurant in Abilene with best service as well. Enjoy!
The food is really good! Feels a little shabby inside (the carpet looks dirty). But they were very accommodating to the specific needs of our group and service was pretty good. Lunch menu was moderately priced ($10 burger) and, again, delicious. Great place to have a icy-cold tea and beat the heat.
Had the pleasure of dining here during an over night stay in Abilene. To be honest we selected Cypress Street because it was one of the very few local restaurants that was open Monday plus it was downtown. Everything was great from Rebecca service to the food and the atmosphere.
Restaurant was amazing. For one when I called to ask a out vegetarian options and if they had black bean burgers they didnt but let me know that if I gave them a few days advance on coming in they would make sure they had the ingredients to make it. Being impressed my wife and I decided to go anyway. My wife ended up getting the steak, I got the panko chicken. Both meals were delicious. The service was amazing and they have an awesome drink selection with local brew beers.
The food and service was worth ten stars! Honestly some of the best chicken Ive ever had, the waiter was very conscientious whilst being unobtrusive he gave good food and wine suggestions, kept our water and drinks topped up and handled the kids well. Unfortunately the bartender served water with my whiskey on the rocks and milk with my Kahlúa coffee. Still, overall it was so good that it deserves every star and then some, I highly recommend it.
Wow! Great service, delicious food. I was worried the Southern Hot Mess would be weird with its spicy pimento cheese and bread and butter jalapenos but dont worry this isnt grandmas pimiento cheese its a spicy semi-sharp delicacy and the jalapenos are tasty without overpowering.
We held a rehearsal dinner with 27 people in attendance. Every aspect (ability to decorate, personalize, determine menu and other) was handled very professionally and in an extremely friendly manner. Everyone raved about the food! It was delicious. The service was excellent. Our dinner was a huge success! We highly recommend Cypress Street Station.
We spent a lot of money here and we’re very disappointed in this restaurant. The service was very good and the hostesses were friendly, but the food was a major disappointment. I had a chicken dish that was overcooked and generally flavorless and my husband’s fish was overcooked. Yes, we should have complained but we were with another couple and didn’t want to create a problem. So I take this opportunity to register my opinion and suggest you go elsewhere.
My wife and I along with my parents ate here before going to the Grace Museum and the experience was wonderful! Our waitress was great and the chef, yes i said chef, came out to see if we wanted dessert! You usually dont get something like that at a normal place! Inside was elegant and a total surprise! Building has a great history and the staff was glad to share what they knew. Meal was absolutely wonderful. Price was great too! Is a great place to stop by for a late lunch although i think they close at 2p to close and prepare for dinner, so keep that in mind. FYI, we ate there on a Saturday. I would definitely recommend!PS. Have been there a few more times and i love it even more! Cannot say enough good things about it!
Went for Dinner last night. (01/25/2021) Waited more than an hour for burgers and Fish & Chips. I ordered a burger Medium Rare. When I received, it was ice cold and totally over done. This is my second trip to the restaurant and my second visit was as bad as my first. I will never return.
Stopped for lunch while out of town so we had no clue what would be good. Sat outside the restaurant and had our lunch. Delicious food and super sweet service!! Thank you Crystal for your recommendations!! Loved it and if we are ever back in town will definitely come back
GF can eat here but very disappointing. Very limited gluten free selection. I think gf bread is awful so a no bun hamburger with a side salad was about it. No dedicated fryer and alternate sides were salad or fruit. They said the tortilla soup was gf but they only had flour tortillas. Staff didn’t wear masks for covid so that was unnerving too. Food was ok
We came in 15 minutes before closing (I know, I know...) and were warmly greeted by the one server/bartender. He was friendly and worked very hard keeping up with all the tables. Cant imagine why there was just one person there but he did a great job and earned these 5 stars. Wish I had caught his name. The food was pretty good, too. I think we would return next time were in town.
I loved the charm of the decor, from the storefront curved windows, to the tiny vintage hexagon tiles, the beautiful bar, and the pressed tin ceiling tiles; just charming and authentic. The menu was small-this is not a criticism. About six dishes each in about 5 categories? A good selection without turning into a novel. And the dishes themselves had good flavor profiles and were perfectly proportioned. By that I mean your plates were not overflowing. The portion sizes were just right to fill you up but leave room for the next course without waste or the urge to clean your plate and over stuff yourself. Very accommodating to the members of my party with special dietary requests. A very enjoyable meal.So why only three stars? The price point. Quite simply the value for your dollar isnt there. Ingredients are well thought out, but the flavor combinations are not ground breaking and there is nothing on the menu with anything exotic that would seem to justify it. I will say I didnt try the steaks and have no issue paying top dollar for a good cut of meat and those seemed to average about $25-28, which is pretty reasonable since Im sure that they were of as good quality as the entrees my party enjoyed. But pasta dishes creeping close to $20 that have frozen shrimp just seems like missing mark. Again, delicious, frozen shrimp and all, but Id feel better about the meal with about a 20% cut in price. Basically anything not steak or seafood still averaged $18-20 and I just have issue with burgers and sandwiches in that price range. Also, the service. Our server was friendly and personable, but not quite as quick and attentive as the restaurant would seem to demand. A couple small serving faux pas, like literally not asking us what wed like to drink (We ended up just drinking the water he brought when he greeted the table) and asking if wed like dessert without having a desert menu handy. (I had seen the menu online before coming and already had one in mind, but my dining companions werent prepared) But he wasnt rude nor so slow that we couldnt be patient. Again its a value for your dollar and I just expected tighter service for the price we were paying.I did like the food very much so Im happy to recommend it. Im just slightly disappointed in those two areas. It may not bother others so enjoy!
FANTASTIC SEAFOOD! Definitely the best in town! Wonderful considering there really arent any places to get much seafood. Their selections are fresh and flown in daily. I highly recommend the bayou florentine! I cannot say enough about the food because it truly is spectacular! Very full bar as well. Give this place a try! Youll be back!
Good food, but menu is a bit confusing (and perhaps a tad vague) for those who dont know anything about Southern/Cajun-style food. I had never heard of blackened before, so I thought it meant slightly charred since there was no description whatsoever. A friend helped explain it, as did the waiter, who was willing to substitute the dish for something less spicy. Great customer service, but I would advise them to add descriptions to menu items.
We may not have stopped if we had. My family loved every dish that we ordered and would like to go back to try others. The best bang for your buck is to visit at lunch time. Their prices are very good for the quality of food given. But even looking at the dinner prices, it is still a good deal.We did not have any problems with service, but arrived well before the lunch hour rush.I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great local place to eat. American food based menu, but also has great seasonal offerings. But folks, hold your food rakes (aka forks)... the desert is worth writing home about. It will not disappoint you. The price point is a little higher but worth the local flare! A great downtown place for a great meal!
Just popped in for dinner, and glad we did.The Thai salad is back up to standard. Crisp lettuce, perfectly grilled chicken and lots of yummy peanut sauce. The cheese board was generous, good cheese choices, if a bit main street, but a nice snack. The French Martini was delightful.
A cool place with a low key vibe and great food!Giving it three stars though because my tab was $49.10 which I charged on my card and tipped $10 in cash, but when I checked my bank account later in the night (we ate lunch here), I saw I was charged $59.10 on my card. The place was great, but not so great that its okay to take an additional $10 on top of the original $10 cash tip.So I suggest eating here, but pay in cash or check your bank account immediately after paying to make sure you are being charged correctly.
As a lifetime resident of Abilene, this restaurant is not only a landmark but a tradition. Unfortunately the last few times that Ive eaten there have been less than sub par to say the least. Everyone that has had to work their way through college knows what a frozen pizza looks and tastes like. I truly believe that I paid $15.00 for a frozen pizza, not a brick oven pizza that is actually listed on their menu. As for the service, the waitress was very friendly, but everyone at the table had to swap food because the orders were all mixed up. I hope that all the inconsistencies and problems can be resolved, and that Cypress Street Station can be the shining jewel in downtown Abilene once again.
Great restaurant and friendly management. Brian Green the owner was very friendly/helpful. I will recommend friends and family and be a returning customer. Great beer and super cheap food for the quality. I live in Dallas and for a nice 5 star establishment like this expect to pay 3x the amount in DFW.
We came for lunch for the first time today. I had the chicken caesar salad with fried artichokes and my husband had Bayou chicken florentine and fried calamari. The calamari was inedible. It was rubbery and REEKED of fish, something fresh seafood doesnt do. My chicken caesar salad was very good but the fried artichokes were clearly from a jar given the extremely salty taste although it was freshly fried. The bayou chicken florentine had very good flavor and was seasoned well. In fact would have been the hit of the meal had it been hot. Each entree came with a cornbread muffin (jalapeno cornbread) I wish I had known prior to ordering so I couldve ask for a substitute but my husband liked them. The price is reasonable for lunch but the quality left something to be desired.
In our general quest for Texas brews, the beer brewing part of the operation diverted us from I-20. The superlative service and food will guarantee our return. The menu is eclectic as was our order. The southern mix of pork, sausage and crawfish was well balanced for spice and flavor. The fish special (dorado) was perfectly prepared, delicately flavored and priced reasonably. The quail was phenomenal. The beers are good. The porter was the best for me, the others would all make for good session beers. If you live in Abilene and make The Olive Garden or Outback your regular nice dinner out, shame on you.
I think some of the postings here under the anonymity of Google User may be from other establishments, and in that respect, slightly disingenuous. Ive eaten here many times, and its our default venue for meet-ups. The manager/owner, Kevin, is always welcoming, and the service friendly - I know they take it seriously, having witnessed one of the staff pep-talks. Expensive? I suppose its a relative phrase, and there are certainly cheaper places to eat, but as a once a month special, Id recommend it every time. Without this place, Abilene would be a drearier place to visit!
Terrible, the new owner is so rude and disrespectful. We had our wedding s reception there and the service and food was horrible. Plus she charged me twice on my card. And on top of that stole some bottles of champagne. I wouldnt recommend the place at all. Charged me also almost 300 dollars extra to set 2 tables out of the area we had agreed on. Crappy lady.
Came in last night with my buddy Mike and got to meet Amanda the owner she was really nice! We got there at a good time because the place was packed earlier after an event at the civic center. They currently are a brewpub with 3 tanks behind the bar but I believe Amandas plan is to bring in more well known drafts and change up the menu a bit to breathe some fresh air into things. Go check it out!
My daughter & I had just came from an event from the grace Museum. Our host sat us down in front of the restaurant by the window. We had been waiting for 20 minutes (there was a couple setting beside us) not ONCE did the server acknowledge us seating beside the couple. BE RIGHT YOU WITH OR GOOD EVENING OR WHAT CAN I GET YOU TO DRINK!!! NOT A WORD!!!! THIS PLACE WAS NOT EVEN BUSY!!!! We left!!! I did tell the host that we our leaving (being courteous). He did say he was sorry very apologetic. Then our server approached us while we are leaving this place, Im not your server but you server the couple that was not even 2 ft away from us.
Youre in Abilene and gonna be snotty about food.... The waiter actually tells me our chefs are very particular about how they serve their food, they dont make substitutions Then it takes 40 minutes to get our meal. Its cold to the touch... waiter says they chef intends for it to be served room temp. Bland, uninspired, flavorless, joke on Abilene.Look, Im the one paying over $130 for four people (no drinks, 2 beers). Its not the chefs meal, its mine! Good luck staying in business!
Well, the best thing about this place is the atmosphere... I find the layout a little strange but it looks clean, theres usually a pianist, and the staff is ok. There is also a fireplace, but Ive never seen them run it. My biggest issue is with the food, it tastes good but it is very overpriced! Theres usually not much of it.. and they change their menu way too often.... when I find something I like, they get rid of it. Seems like the special is always mahi mahi. I guess thats one thing they dont change much. I was underwhelmed. I agree with some of the others about the usual bartender, Im familiar with this character as well and he can be pretty rude. The drinks are very expensive too! Two will probably cost as much as your plate.. Beware...The Beehive is much better.
Very very very expensive. I wouldnt recommend going here with large groups to eat lol. Came here with bf on our first date...Idk I guess he wanted to impress me :P . lol nah we went because hes a crafted ale fan and heard this place made Its Iwn beer? Was really slow when we went. We sat in bar area which was really nice and our server was epic and introduced me to my now absolute favorite drink (h amaretto sour). Shw also took a picture of us for me ^.^ . We gotb their pizza and calamari as appetizer. Both delicious. I think my bf got their house beer and said it was good but not great. The calamari was epic too, because Im used to the tiny pieces they sell at olive garden but this places calamri were huge pieces.Anyway I liked this place because my first timeb there was great and it holds fond memories but probably would not go back again because expensive.
Catering service is severely overpriced. Charged my friend $4700 for a few trays of cheese and meats. This was a funeral memorial, and my friend did not check the prices. Cypress should be ashamed. The trays were not that good, either. These could have been ordered individually from anywhere for about $400 at the most. Shame on you Cypress. Everyone please boycott Cypress.

2021-12-30Rebecca is wonderful! Friendly and accommodating she is marvelous. The restaurant was clean, service great and the meatloaf burger, slaw, and house made chips were great!

2021-09-30The building of this restaurant is a really neat, old building with original brick and metal ceilings. The service was really good and so was the food. The food was overpriced for the presentation. It tasted good but I was underwhelmed as it arrived at the table. I would recommend giving Cypress Street a try.

2022-04-24I have been here a few times and love the dynamic menu, it always seems to have a good variety of food with changes to keep it fresh and exciting... The cherry on top is their maple old fashioned, I have never had a better one ANYWHERE in the world and that is with standard bourbon, I plan on trying one made with an upgrade on my next trip to Abilene...
