The food was amazing. And the portion was a good size too. Angela the waitress was a little curt with me when asked to substitute my toast with a tortilla. (I have trouble getting breads down)I dont think she was trying to be. I just think she realized how she said it with her tone, not what she said. I had the Meat Lovers Omelette.. they have good salsa here too if you like that on your eggs like I do.I came here because it was close to Pearson VUE testing center.Overall it was a great experience.I definitely recommend and I will for sure return. Stop and check them out. I believe it will be worth your time.Omelette cost 11.95Plus tip 3.05Total cost. 15.00This was a good value I feel for the amount of food I got.

Excellent breakfast at Darren’s. I will definitely return to try more of their menu.After a second visit I am revising my star rating from 5 to 3. Darren’s is a nice, clean restaurant. But after my second visit I have to say the food is typical breakfast fare. There’s nothing wrong with that but it is not 5 stars. I can find an equally good breakfast much closer to home so I do not plan to return to Darren’s. If I lived nearby, I would probably go there again.
Came because of reviews but I got food with no flavor! Mashed potatoes were very blah, chicken fried steak didn’t have any spice either. Only good parts was salad, green beans and Texas toast.
I went to Darrens for the first time today, as I live out of town. My food was fantastic and the service was both fast and friendly. I will definitely go back next time Im back in DFW. Thanks for the experience!
Food was ok, service stunk. Waitress sat on her phone at the bar. Never brought a bill, I had to get up and ask for it. Too many good places around for this kind of shenanigans. Wont be back. Over $10 for just a burger. No fries. No drink.
Awesome breakfast on Saturday. I brought a friend so we could try it out and chatted with Darren and Mika (our server). They were very pleasant and friendly. The bacon may be the best I have had in a restaurant. They also had REAL rye bread toast and not the stuff some places call rye bread but its not. We were very pleased and will be back again. I am looking forward to a patty melt on that great rye bread! I see some comments on overpriced which is strange as the prices were very fair. See ya soon!
Nice little cozy restaurant with good food & friendly service. Affordable & clean spacey place. They even have a seprate lil room not to small yet big enough for a small group. I liked it.

Heard the Chicken Fried Steak was Fantastic here. Decided to try it. Absolutely Wonderful!! Big, Tasty, and perfectly breaded. Fork tender all the way. I did a search for chicken fried steak in honor of chicken fried steak day in Texas. Darrens was the first to show up on the list. I ordered over the phone and picked up my food in 15 minutes. I got the large chicken fried steak, double mashed potatoes, and fried okra for me and my wife. This was the perfect portion and it was delicious. I liked the added little bit of garlic salt on the toast that came with the meal. The chicken fried steak was fresh and tasted great. Next time I go back, Im going to try the fried cat fish.
Great place for hot, fresh food. Im a weirdo that likes liver and onions and its really good here. The bread pudding is also delicious.

Fabulous! We loved the variety on the menu. Lots to choose from. The steak fingers were SO tender, perfect breading, and fresh out of the frying pan. HOT AND CRISP. Then blueberry cobbler with ice cream. Were definitely going there again!

My family and I stumbled on this little gem week before last looking for home cooking. It is unassuming outside, but the food is too notch and large portions. All home made. The kids loved it as well!We had to go back Friday night for All You Can Eat Catfish. We are glad we did. Best frid catfish around the area! Dont forget dessert. My family strongly recommend this place for excellent food, great service and great prices!No wonder Darrens has been around for over 20 years. Wish we had found it sooner.

We are a large group in a private room. The service was impeccable. Drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. People in our group were all paying separate. The food was delivered fast and steaming hot. I got fried catfish which was excellent.I highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My wife and I are new to the area. Stopped in for dinner-had burgers which were really good. Great service, and the owner stopped by to chat with us and offer tips for living in the area! Still have to try breakfast but we may have found our “go to” spot! Highly recommend!

This place is amazing! Were in town just for the weekend and we were looking for a decent place to eat and Darrens turned up on our Yelp search.We werent sure Google Maps was taking us to the right place because it seemed a little residential. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and its a no frills looking place. Do not let that fool you, though. This is, hands down, the best food Ive had in a long time. The smoked prime rib is their Saturday special. Darren gave us a sample and we all regretted not choosing the prime rib.From the burgers to the chicken fried steak to the steak fingers.... Every meal was delicious.The wait staff is friendly and they all seem to get along and work together well. The restaurant had love music which added a nice touch to the overall ambiance.When were back in town, well be going back to Darrens. Im already looking forward to my next visit.

We have been going to visit Darren for years for his good company and GREAT food. This new location was an old bank building and looks amazing as a restaurant. We usually have the delicious ribeye and baked potato, but this time we got the prime rib. It was smokey and delicious. We cant seem to go there either without getting the fried okra and texas toast. Really Great food! Fun/laid back atmosphere.
I dropped in yesterday and asked suggestions and the young lady that took my order was very nice and courteous she recommended the grilled pork chops with mashed potatoes and cabbage and it was delicious, my only complaint was that sides are so small I would loved to have had more cabbage.
Went here with a large group and the staff was prepared and processed the food quickly. The food came out fast and was hot. I thought they did a great job with such a large group.
Went to this location because it was the weekend destination of the motorcycle club of Harleys that I ride with. I think it would be unfair to judge the service by this again because we slam the place with like 70 people and the staff was just overwhelmed the food I ordered it tastes good fries could have been crispier coleslaw was kind of regular but the service for the amount of people that they had to take care of was really good Id stop by this place again
Everything was delicious, the ribs are better than a BBQ restaurant. The shrimp and corn chowder was amazing. We also had the beer battered cod and the chef salad. Everyone got what they wanted and no one was less than enthusiastic, well done!
Love this local spot! Service is great and food is great. I frequent here for weekend breakfast and take my buddies here after golf. Food is always on point and the staff is very kind.Ive been coming here since they opened about 3 years ago and have seen the improvements they have made.If youre lucky and if any is left, Darrens mom bakes cakes to serve and theyre always great.I recommend any breakfast, burgers, or the chicken fried steak. So so good and a great price.

Steak is good, baked potato good, onion rings good. Ordered extra ranch dressing for baked potato and onion rings and got nothing, come on man! Online ordering is terrible. Ill enjoy my onion rings I guess.P.S. the steak was really good. 👍

Im always on the lookout for good breakfast places and Im glad I tried Darrens. Food was good, service was fast and friendly and the price was great. It has a pleasant decor but the best surprise was a the Saturday piano player. He was just great without the music being too loud. We will be back to try other meals as well.
AMAZING SERVICE!!Me, my husband, our 9 month old and our grandfather went here to eat after spending all day at the hospital with our dying grandmother.My grandfather is currently going through radiation treatments and is unable to have anything seasoned. They were able to make him his unseasoned food, even after he forgot to tell them to leave the gravy off his Hamburger steak, they took it back and remade his entire meal.FOOD IS AMAZING!We were extremely grateful for the service provided and the care that they take for their customers. Especially after what we were going through, it meant a lot.

This neighborhood hideaway was great!!! My daughter and I ran in for quick dinner. We had burgers that were perfect. Frys for me and onion rings for her. Great!!! Wasnt a fan of the music and a little too loud, but I dont like country music. My bad.We will be back!
This place has fast, friendly service and great food for a reasonable price. This was not our first time here and certainly wont be our last. Saturday night is prime rib night and Darren knows his prime rib. You dont even need a knife the stake is so tender. I cant wait to feast on the all you can eat catfish on Friday night. Glad you opened another restaurant Darren, even happier its not far from us.
Quiet cafe at the corner of a non-descript little shopping center. We just tried Darrens American Grill and Im pretty sure well be back to try more than just breakfast. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly and the prices are really good, especially for the specials. Two adult simple breakfasts and coffee came to just around $15. The food was cooked perfectly too. There was a nice gentleman playing an electronic keyboard and singing jazzy mellow tunes which was so pleasant and a surprising touch for a relaxing breakfast with family or friends. You might expect live music in a fancy hotel but we were delighted to hear it at Darrens. The pianist entertains on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I understand they have other music certain evenings of the week as well, so well have to check back on those nights. We will certainly come back to try some of the other menu items soon.
Darren makes a great old school breakfast. Feel free to order your hash browns scattered, crispy, with onions, and he will deliver. The bacon is just right. Ask how you want it, from crisp to soft, they will make it your way. The wait staff is terrific - friendly, personable, and efficient.

Friendly, comfortable place. Always good food and family service. We need more places that make you feel this good. The owner is really involved and the food specials are terrific. The staff remembers you the next time youre in, and that just doesnt happen much in other restaurants. Just a great neighborhood cafe with great food, cold beer, and personally to spare.
Went into here in a whim with my wife. I dont know how Ive never heard of this place when it is so close to my house. Literally had the best omelette of my life. (I had the American omelette). Everything was cooked to perfection. I will be back for lunch and dinner! The staff was kind and attentive. The food was great. They even have RC Cola!
This place has great food and reasonable prices. My husband grabbed dinner and beers with a friend and Darren kept the kitchen open late so that I could get chicken fingers and tots to go (pregnant, have crazy cravings) and they were AMAZING (I consider myself a chicken strip connoisseur). Husband was happy with beer selection and service. Glad to know this place is near us!
Worst service ever, food overpriced for what it is, and Darren is an uptight, cheap spoiled bully, just read through the reviews and you will see the truth about this clown also in this covid 19 pandemic Darren or none of his staff were wearing masks breathing on the drinks and the food and pretty much just telling me off when I asked him about it. when I asked him about it never ever will I go there again. You were warned.
Food was good and the service was FANTASTIC! Our waitress Alicia was awesome! She was attentive and engaged our 9 year old son each time she came to the table. She made us laugh and we left with full bellies and big smiles. We are visiting from Austin but will definitely be back for another meal when we are up this way again. Thanks Alicia (Gday govna) 😁
Good quality food at a reasonable price. the ribeye steak was WAY better than expected, perfectly prepared. Cabbage was a little bland but the onion rings were on point.Service was great all around as well.Will definitely be back next time I’m in town.
We used to really enjoy the food and draft beer here, until we went there one night and were completely ignored. We returned for breakfast a couple times after a long hiatus, and the experience was okay. Their saving grace is the food, which is quite good here, but service is hit or miss. They also have a guy that plays piano and comes to talk to you while you’re trying to eat your food, which is pretty annoying. He’s a nice guy, and a good musician; I just don’t want to exchange pleasantries while trying to enjoy my food.

Due to the sign making it very clear that people wearing masks are not welcome in this establishment we took our business elsewhere.The highlighting and underlining of NOT on the sign made it very clear that masks are not encouraged in the slightest which potentially endangers my family’s well-being.
Delicious burgers made fresh and cooked over oak and pecan wood. Great Chicken fried steak, its griddle fried which makes it amazing. Best in garland. Prices are reasonable. Id recommend this place to anyone!

Went on a Wed. night, ordered an American burger. The place was empty. The food was edible, but obviously from a dense frozen patty. Nothing mixed in it. No spices, nothing. My burger was topped with mushrooms and bacon, on brioche. Very bland, very do- not- pass- go.My companion asked for ribs, and the server had to check to see if they were ready. When asked if they were fall off the bone ready, the server said always. Not true. You couldnt even twist a fork into the meat. Looked lovely, but too tough to eat . It was returned.Best to stick with a sandwich.
This place is cute but they are clearly understaffed. 1 server on a Friday morning before a holiday. We have been here for 45 minutes and still do not have food. The looks of frustration from other people are the same as ours. Even IF the food is amazing, there are a ton of other places where a quick breakfast doesnt have to be over an hour. This place will not be in our rotation.

My first and last time in this restaurant. None of the employees were wearing a mask and no social distant of patrons at bar. I went in for an order to go and when I asked Darren the owner why no one was wearing a mask he rudely said because they dont have to and he doesnt and never has reqired his employees to wear one. Im sure the food is great but I dont want to gamble with this dangerous virus just because Darren wont show a little common courtesy.
I learned of Darrens last week and have been 3 times. I have had the chicken fried chicken, breakfast and a burger. My co workers had the chicken fried steak and other stuff. Its all delicious!! Especially the homeade okra!! The staff are super sweet, Darren is very nice and the place is nice and clean. I will def keep going back. Wish it was in a better location, more people need to know about it.

The hamburger steak is delicious. The toast was flavored, who knew toast could be so tasty. And if you love Cosmos, you will love Treys Cosmos, they are the best. Great place to hang with friends!
Today was our 3rd time in 2 days. I had the Catfish sandwich and my husband had the Chicken fried steak sandwich. All I can say is YUM....we also enjoyed Bloody Mary’s made from their own recipe... none of that zingzang .All in all a great lunch.

Edit 10-19-18I want to like this place, but the last 3x weve come, it has been a disappointment. Today, friends and I went in for breakfast at 8am. 4 men walked in and seated ourselves. We made eye contact the waitress and sat for close to 7 minutes without any acknowledgement, menus or even a well be right with you. It was busy, but not full. We decided to give it another couple of minutes.Almost 10 minutes in and still nothing, we decided to head out to another local spot. Its been like this the last few times. Im OK with waiting when busy but an acknowledgement would have helped. All 4 of us live local in SP and like to give business to local establishments for our get togethers.

Meet here with friends on a regular basis for breakfast and my experience is limited to that, but that experience is always great! We are always taken care of and always feel appreciated even though it is early in the morning, food is good and prices are spot on.

Very good diner experience (for breakfast anyway): strong ice tea (that did not taste like it was made in a coffee mug), eggs/ bacon/ Sausage and pancakes that were just perfect, and attentive staff.Bonus: an old dude in the corner playing smooth jazz tunes on a keyboard :)

Expect a bar, NOT a restaurant. They make good bar food but expect most things to be made in a convention oven. Chicken fried chicken is not fried. Steak fingers is ground beef cooked in a convention oven.
Had the HUGE chicken fried steak that was real beef freshly battered. None of the current frozen cow patties buried in batter masquerading as CFS. Had breakfast here several months back and it was just as great. This will be my go to grill going forward.
Excellent waitress staff. Always keeping my cup of liquid sanity full. HOWEVER, I would like to see Belgium waffles added to the breakfast menu, but Darren does make tasty pancakes.

The fries always come hot and very fresh. I talked the one of the workers and he said theyre always fresh. The hamburger wasnt the greatest but they do sell beer and that always attracts people. Its your average American grill i would say.
He has smoked Prime rib only on Saturday evening, The other items on the menu are just as good. Two sizes to choose from. Really great place with excellent service.

Wonderful experience on Sunday morning. We have ordered through Uber Eats a number of times. I splurged once, a chance I was willing to take since all their food has always been awesome, on the Luna Ribeye! WOW! Amazing. Best steak in town by far. Always cooked perfectly.Today I came into the restaurant for the first time and they had a live musician named Lou. He even came to visit the table for a few minutes which was pleasant. (I’ll be watching Texas Walker Ranger to see if I can spot him - just ask him when you get there. 😎)Fast friendly service. WI-FI. Some of the best food you can find. Yum!

Darrens is a good spot for home cooked and grilled dishes in Richardson across from Sherrill Park golf. A full bar welcomes 19th hole revelers and a piano player entertains on Sunday mornings. Prices are reasonable and service with a smile. Recommended.

I ordered the two pancakes eggs and sausage meal through Uber eats. Not only was my order wrong( I got about 8 pieces of toast instead of pancakes) I also experienced tasting by far the worst eggs Ive ever eaten. I asked for over medium what I got was so overcooked that the yolk became gelatin like and had no flavor to it. This is the first and last time I order from this place a waste of $15
Excellent hamburgers, prices are very reasonable! Not crowed since most people dont know about this place, cant wait to go back and try more of the menu. Best Hamburger I have eaten in the surrounding area!

Small, yet cozy. Food was excellent: bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and toast, low prices. Lots of TVs must have been a sports bar in an earlier cycle. Open for breakfast, lunch, and di. Closed in Mondays. Will go back to try each. 😀
I love the people that come in and eat there. Lots of repeat customers that come in and its nice to see those familiar faces. The food is awesome and so are the people that work at Darrens.

We went for dinner first day after quarantine was lifted for Dallas County. Food was fine it would have been more enjoyable if staff wore mask for customers safety.

Really liked this restaurant for breakfast. We had the standard breakfast fare (eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes and toast). It was cooked to our liking, and was reasonably priced. We plan to go back.

I tried to order food from this place and they immediately cancelled my order. Apparently my money is no good here so they cancelled my order and offered no option to contact them. This company is clearly run by people who do not care about their customers and are only concerned about how much money they can make and how much money goes to their pockets. I reached out to them and recieved no response.

2021-10-18This place was good and options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a guy playing live music Friday, Saturday, and during brunch on Sunday.I got there too late to hear music but he plays a wide range. Today I had chicken fried chicken with gravy and it was made there, you could tell it wasnt a frozen patty. Menu also says burgers are fresh never frozen. There is a bar with drink specials and a patio. Nice local business, give it a try! Service was excellent!

2022-08-08Absolutely awesome spot!!! Easily shot to the top of my list for a good American Dinner spot! My wife and I fiiiinally came to try it out and we were not disappointed! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and treated like family. I was torn between a few options on the menu for my first experience and come to find out the Grill Sergeant (love that!) had cooked up a brisket the night before, so I spiced things up a bit. I ordered The Texan burger which is your standard 1/2 bacon cheeseburger with grilled jalapenos, and we threw a nice heaping portion of the BBQ chopped brisket on top and by request, added one of their fabulously crunchy onions rings on top! From first bite to last, it was heaven! The side of onions rings and cheese tots the wife and I shared were also top notch! Sooo good! Top it off with a suuuper soft warm brownie à la mode, and Im now at home about to enter a food coma!Cant wait to go back and try The Cowboy burger, chicken fried steak, and french toast breakfast!

2022-07-21I definitely recommend eating here. The staff was exceptional. The food was cooked to perfection! I had the veggie omelet with hash browns and toast. It was so delicious.Update 7/21/22We havent been here in a while, this is the first night weve been able to have a family dinner out. Darren doesnt disappoint!! Got the rib special, steak fingers and fish n chips.Everything was super delicious. If you havent tried this wonderful place yet I definitely recommend you should.

2022-02-18Tonight was our third time here, and i think it’s safe to leave a review as we have together tried six menu items and they are all amazing! The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff is personable. The sloppy Joe special, steak fingers, gravy, fried steak, American melt are all so good! Everything taste like a home cooked meal. Tonight, Thursday, we tried the ribs as well and they deserve a line of their own. Best ribs I have had since living in Texas, in three years. They also have a really good sweet tea, and garlic toast! Basically everything is good, and we can’t wait to keep coming back to try the rest of the menu! Customer service is top notch. We don’t explore menus often but this place is one we are confident just can’t disappoint.

2022-07-30We are from out of state and decided to try your place. We were not disappointed! We had prime rib and chicken fried steak! Both so yummy! The very best part though was the way your staff greeted everyone, so sweet! I was even more impressed by the regulars, so many! And each was greeted with genuine enthusiasm! Great food, great staff and great live music!

2022-06-17First time here; our usual favorite is Judys but this place is just as good. Service was excellent; food was good, prices are very good.They actually know how to make coffee; even with it being Folgers. Not bitter or overly dark (its important because I drink mine black).Only thing I would suggest is a little more time with the Hashbrowns; they seemed a bit wet so I am assuming they use frozen.I had steak and eggs; great value at $15.95.I think would be a great place for Lunch and Dinner; I was looking at the Menu and great price for Steak.This is added to my list of favorites.

2022-08-21The ambiance and taste of food are noticeably better than a typical brunch restaurant. The chicken fried steak is probably the best that I have ever had, and I have eaten a lot! Will be returning for sure and keeping my fingers crossed that my second visit will be as good as the first.
