I would give it 4 stars if not for my initial interaction with the woman who checked me in. Fortunately my husband had done research on all the ways they would try to upsell me so I came prepared to say no, thanks to any gimmicks offered. Often I have a hard time with this especially when dealing with friendly people. I guess it was my lucky day that the woman who dealt with my reservation was rude, unfriendly, and had zero customer service skills. I also had a heck of a time finding the place.However, the woman at the Hertz counter who got me my car was super friendly. The man at the security booth as I exited was also uber nice. And when i dropped the car off at the end of my rental the young man who checked me out was so engaging and friendly.My suggestion is the initial customer service rep take a class run by the other 3.Other than her my experience was great.Car was nice, clean, and reliable. Everything was super easy.
Rented a car on February 21, 2021. Reserved vehicle (Managers Special) online (car was filthy when I picked it up) and wound up keeping it for 62 days, because personal car was severely damaged in snow storm. Rented car with debit card and didnt have any issues. Simply showed up at San Antonio Airport, paid my fees and drove off minutes later. On April 25, 2021 reserved a vehicle to be picked up April 27 and when I arrived, was told I now needed a plane ticket. The agent at the window stated that this policy had been in place over a year, while the manager I spoke to said that the policy had recently been changed, then directed me to go to Budget Rental Cars where I was able to rent a car at a non airport location. (with a debit card) I asked about getting a refund, since I wasnt able to rent a car from Dollar. I was handed a card and asked to call their toll free number. Problem.. no one answers. (tried 5 times) Also, as a Dollar rewards member, youre supposed to receive one point for every dollar spent. I was shorted about 700 points on my Feb 21 Rental.
I rented a mid size car in Milwaukee But we went to chicago.on the way we passed through a toll...which we did attempted to pay right away. The state of Illinois refused cause it was a rental. Dollar car rental in turn charge my card without Authorization 69 dollar. The toll was only 3 Dollars or less. SO its a 60 administrative fee
Wish I would have read reviews about them charging you hidden fees. I booked a package deal (hotel and car) through expedia. When I got to the dollar counter they asked for the credit card for incidentals. (I used two separate cards- one for expedia and one at the counter) well, I got charged the rental price through expedia in one charge then I get another $150 charge fees added I am on hold been on hold for 20 minutes and I have a feeling I wont be getting my $150 back...just got off the phone.. they said it was in the contract even though I wasnt informed of this optional fee.. sneaky sneaky will not be renting from again..
Excellent Car Service got to upgrade from a Honda to a Buick I recommend not to get the Buick Regal I drove from San Antonio to Corpus Christi one tank of gas Im Corpus Christi back to Copperas Cove two tanks of gas and other words you look so youre not gas station but overall good service
There was a long wait to get our car. We waited to check in for about 5-10 minutes, and then another 40 minutes after that until we got our car. There were a lot of other people waiting, so Im not sure what was going on. When we checked in they tried to upsell me to spend over $120 extra on a nicer model/cruise control. I declined, but when we got the car it ended up being the model that they were just trying to upsell to me, which feels a little slimy.Car was in good shape and clean. Check in was kind of confusing because Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty were all at the same location and handled by the same people. Also a bit silly that they put a sticker on the drivers side door to state that the car was clean, because the person drove the car up to us and got out right before we got in. So its a waste of a sticker.
We are currently in a rental car from Dollar. The air conditioner has slowly turned from cold to almost just a fan in hot sunny Texas where the temps are 90 degrees! I have called and called every number including the emergency roadside assistance and the main desk number to the Airport at San Antonio along with another number. I have been passed along by representatives and remained on HOLD with the Emergency Roadside Assistance for an hour and 20 min before hanging up! . We have no other choice but to drive to the airport and inconvenience our last 4 days of our trip. We went to south padre island and have been sweating the whole way back. Pretty unprofessional of Dollar to NOT answer the emergency roadside number!!!
This by far was the best and easiest experience I ever had renting a car. Dollars easy credit card or debit payment made it super easy. Not everyone has a credit card or enough available credit on one or may not want to get in further debt. So Dollar accepting debit cards is a huge plus and the main reason I rented besides best price for a four day rental.From the front desk to actually getting our truck was very pleasant, easy and smooth. We got a brand new truck and that was another plus. The truck was freshly washed and brought to us. It was a super easy return and no additional fees were added. We paid exactly what we were quoted and were not pushed to buy any additional insurance , which was refreshing.Thank you Dollar for your commitment to great customer service and putting the customer first and before profit. We rented a car online and given the wrong address by the person on the phone. Then we drove into the airport and there were signs for rental car drop-off but not rental car pickup. After driving around for almost an hour we finally found the location inside the parking garage. You have to walk into the airport building to rent, and the line was still another 45 minutes. Next time I rent, it will not be from here, the whole process was just super inconvenient.
This was the WORST experience I have ever had! Please do not waste your time or money with this business. Starting from the very beginning it was a nightmare. When we booked the rental we added two additional drivers to the rental upon getting there they charged us additional daily fees for the drivers even though we previously indicated there would be additional drivers. We added insurance to the rental when we booked it but when we arrived the employee working told us the insurance we booked wasn’t efficient ( even though we purchased it through their site) she recommended we purchase additional insurance through them right then and there. After waiting for 45 for our vehicle that we booked 3 months prior, they indicated they didn’t know if they had the requested vehicle... after another 30 minutes they brought us the vehicle. When we tried to leave the parking structure with the vehicle they stopped us and indicated the vehicle was on hold and we could not leave with it. The manager came to the vehicle and said “ I’m sorry we’re having a really good deal on this vehicles right now and another family has been waiting for it”. The manager then offered to “upgrade” us to another vehicle as well as not charge us the additional drivers fee or the car seat fee. We agreed. . . After getting in the vehicle we notice she did not take off the car seat fee ($100.00). We ask her about it she stated she Only agreed to do that if we DIDN’T upgrade the vehicle.... at the end she did end up taking the fee off but if we would not have asked her about it she never would have. Additionally, the vehicle was dirty on the outside and had other people’s garbage on the inside. We spent almost a full 3 hours on our first day of vacation trying to deal with this situation which is absolutely unacceptable. Please please please do not waste your time with this company!
Bad bad bad company! I rented a car from Dollar in San Antonio airport. Everything seemed to be nice and okay until I arrived home after my trip and found out they charged me for extra 500$ WITHOUT TELLING ME!!!!Although I did NOT want Premium emergency roadside service or any additional upgrades, they set me up and put all the possible additional upgrades in my contract.Then they let me sign on bunch of papers and when I asked my money back they rudely ignore me!!!Do yourself a favor, it doesnt worth it. You better pay a bit more for another company that wont set you up.
I booked a reservation at the same time I booked my Delta flight. My wife and I were flying in about 11:45PM, so the website made a reservation for us at Dollar for a 12:05AM car rental. When we arrived to the area for the shuttle to pick us up, we were informed that that particular Dollar location closed its doors at midnight and we would have to find another mode of transportation. We were not the only ones either, I met at two other couples who were left stranded. When I called the next day, they tried to tell me my appointment was actually for 12:05PM the next day. But I had photos from the website confirming my story. Still they didnt care and so I asked if I they still had my reservation and if I could pick it up before noon, and they replied yes as long as I paid extra for that time. When I arrived to the actual location everyone was friendly enough, but nobody even batted an eyelash at my story or cared. They simply asked if I still wanted that reservation. My car rental was fine, but my experience was soured. I understand that car rentals are a lucrative business, but seriously at least acknowledge that I was put in a really bad situation there. As the name implies only one thing maters to most businesses, that mighty dollar.
DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR RENT A CAR. My wife rented a car at the San Antonio Airport. Although she opted out of the toll transponder, the GPS took her on toll roads. She then was sent a $105 bill from Dollar Rent A Car. The tolls alone were $15 total, and Dollar Rent A Car charged $90 in administrative fees- $15 for every single toll plaza passed. They did not make this clear at all when offering the transponder. I would recommend to NEVER use Dollar Rent A Car. This is clearly trying to rip off their customers. Use a different rental company. She only had the car for 2 1/2 days- paid $55 total, but got ripped off for another $90.Also, when my wife declined the insurance, they tried to get her to sign for $150 even though she already declined. She saw the price and told them she did NOT want the insurance for the 2nd time, and then they took it off. They tried to get her to pay for it anyway. Read the reviews! I know we will always read reviews from now on. The lowest price is NOT always what it seems! You get what you pay for and they will find ways to make you pay much more than you think your contract is worth. They are completely dishonest.
Car we were first given had check engine on. It would not have been taken care of if we did not notice before we left. They did, however, give us a complimentary upgrade to a larger car as they had run out of the kind we originally signed up for. The cars were all clean and smelled nice. Staff was nice and friendly although there was a little bit of confusion as there was no one around initially to point out where our car was. Price was...well, reflective to renting for a week. Expensive, as it always is to rent a car, but not absurdly so.
We were so very pleased with our recent rental experience at the SAT Dollar rental car. Thank you for being hassle free. The price I was quoted online was exactly what I was charged upon return of the car. The staff from beginning to end helped to ensure I received the utmost customer service.
You think you are saving money by going with the more affordable service. Forget it.The salesman downright lied about what he was charging me for. He added a supplemental insurance on top of the basic insurance without explaining it to me — easy to do when they are pushing you through 20 screens to initial and telling you, oh its not important, just initial. It must be tempting to do when you work on commission. He spit out a lengthy explanation of a free upgrade opportunity where free somehow cost $253. At least I caught that trick in the screens.My estimate was $377. When I picked up the car, somehow the MOST BASIC level of insurance pushed it to $637. When I turned the car in, my pick-up time was documented as the original reservation time rather than my actual pick-up time (which occurred an hour later due to flight delay), providing them an excuse to swindle another $40 from me when I was 30 minutes late on return. Dont forget the magical $185 in fees and taxes.So, if you want to end up being lied to, deceived, and charged nearly double your estimate, go with Dollar.
We are very please with our experience with Dollar Rent a Car that we picked up at 8770 Crownhill San Antonio. We rented a car at a great price. When we arrived at the SAT airport, we had to go to the rental car counter to check in, then wait for a shuttle to take us to the rental car location. Right now, the airport doesnt have rental cars at the airport, but we noticed that they are building a large structure where they will have all their rental car companies right at the airport, which will be very convenient. Not sure when that will completed though.The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a car seat for our grandson and the car seat we received was new and very clean. It even had a cup holder.The car was a Chevy Malibu and it was great. We were able to put a large, medium large and small suitcase in the trunk. It was a comfortable ride. I would rent a car from them again.
It wasnt Dollar, it was Thrifty. But I think they may be owned by same people. It was very good; fast pick & drop off of car, very nice woman at the counter when I picked up car. My only gripe is the cheapest car I could get online was SUV(Toyota CHR); I really dont like driving a car that big, prefer economy or compact. Plus, the handle to the door of the back seat is very different & annoying; if I owned that car it would drive me crazy. I hope next time I rent a car I can go back to compact/economy.
Happy I was able to use 1 of 4 available video screens to rent my car and not need to wait in line. Associate was very helpful and utilized the info I had already provided in my online profile to move through the process easily and quickly. I don’t believe I have used dollar within the past 20 years, but I do use the parent company hertz for corporate travel. Choice of cars from various brands. I would definitely use again, I assume some of the older cars move from hertz to dollar/thrifty.
Absolutely wonderful experience! We decided to leave a day early for our trip and called the branch to see if we could pick up the premium suv a day early. Chris and Emma went out of their way yo make sure our needs were taken care of. Excellent service and a beautiful car!
They totally scammed me! I JUST realized the clerk upgraded me and charged me OVER $200.00 MORE and didnt tell me or even ask me! 😡 We visited family in KC and went to the Chiefs game, I set up an SUV, they ended up giving me a Nissan car, which to me was actually a down grade and on top of it. Charged me $200.00 plus more! I JUST saw my credit card bill and thats how I found out! They will be getting a call from me on Monday for sure! Totally not cool!!!
We did our vehicle reservation with 2 weeks in advance with the pickup at 10am at the airport, to found out there were not any vans available at the moment for our reservation! The employee that hands out the vehicles was very rude and just leaves us with no idea of what we have to do in the situation, just told us “we don’t have any vans” and went off his way. We talk to the manager that at least try to do something about it but still we were frustrated and angry that after 2 1/2hrs we didn’t have the vehicle that we even put a deposit for. This is totally not professional.
The initial car we rented had maintenance issues and we had to exchange it. The car ran very rough and sounded like it had engine problems. The oil and service/maintenance lights kept coming on. The staff was very nice and made the exchange process very easy. The second car was perfect. We will rent with you again.
My arrival experience was good the service was fast and friendly. My departure experience was horrible the man who checked my car back in was extremely rude and the shuttle driver saw me walking and flagging for him to wait for me he waited for the man who was a few steps ahead of me, looked me right in my eyes as I was approaching the shuttle and closed the doors and drove off with one passengers. The next driver arrived abound 15min later and was much better but her dropped us off at the very end of the drop lane and I had to walk all the way back to the top.

2022-03-08We reserved a small vehicle 3 months in advance then when we show up, they dont have a vehicle for us. Their only solution was to make us upgrade for $15 more a day. Dollar rental is a scam!Follow up, we called customer service and the person on the line said she could check another location but that she wouldnt be able to honor the rate we booked at. I said I wanted to cancel the reservation and suddenly a car appeared for us. #scamlikely

2022-07-24Rented a car from them. Asked for no insurance to be added and they added it without my knowledge. Dropped the car off full which they acknowledged when I dropped off the vehicle and said they would email my receipt to which they then lied and stated I dropped it off at 3/4 of a tank and charged me $40 for gas. Would not recommend.

2022-03-20Ended up breaking down. They were real quick to pick up their broke vehicle and left us and our things at a gas station for hours. Got our own lift to a location they sent us to an hour away to wait again for a replacement that didn’t even fit all our family. Worse experience ever!!

2022-02-13I was on military orders and had originally reserved a compact car. The agent kept insisting that I upgrade. I informed her that I would not be reimbursed for any additional charges. She insisted that there would be no additional charges because there was a current promotion for military and government employees. I eventually agreed at her persistence. Ill admit I should have looked at the contract that included an additional charge, buti was in a hurry and trusted that everything was in order. When I turned the car in, I noticed the additional charges. When I brought it to the attention of the agent at the counter, she questioned my integrity stating that the agent who helped me had been with the company for 15 years and would never make a mistake. I assured her that I was very clear with the initial agent that additional charges would not be reimbursed and was promised that the upgrade was free. She raised her voice and said that she had a hard time believing that. I asked if there was someone else who I could speak to. She told me to go wait at the end of the counter and her manager would assist me. Eventually the manager came to speak with me and took my information and said that only a director can overide the charges. She assured me that I would recieved a return call, but 3 days later I have heard nothing. At this point I would not recommend this specific Dollar Car Rental.

2022-04-09Dollar has no customer service, had one car. Went to visit a family member at the hospital, a/c wasn’t working and the engine light came on. Returned to to dollar, employees wasn’t very helpful. And they won’t do Anything for my inconvenience

2022-02-01Booked a 3 day rental through priceline, my trip got extended a day i called dollar to extend they charged me double the priceline rate. Priceline still had that price for the extra day but i would have to return the rental and pick up another one booked through pricline. Terrible company.

2018-01-17Liars and thieves. Do not rent from this company, especially this branch.I visited San Antonio last weekend and had a rental lined up through Dollar. When asked if I wanted insurance, I said no thank you, I have my own insurance. The lady at the counter then tap-tap-tapped on the computer, said sign here, and I signed on the pad, confident that it was clear I wanted no extra services.When I returned the car two days later, I was handed a receipt for $100+ more than I was expecting. On the receipt (attached here) were charges for LDW and PREM RD SVC - insurance, which I expressly declined, and premium roadside service, which never came up at all in the conversation. The sales clerk had added these services without my knowledge and had me sign without reviewing or initialing next to services I was accepting or declining.As can be guessed, when I called to ask to have the charges removed, the answer was you signed a legal document - this is binding. But the fact remains that the woman behind the counter swindled me into accepting charges that 1) I had expressly declined and 2) had never been brought up in the conversation. And the customer service rep on the phone was extremely rude and condescending, although he did admit that it is Dollar company policy to not remove charges from a contract that a customer does not expressly decline (the roadside service fee, again, was never even mentioned - if it had been, I would have declined).Bottom line: do yourself a favor and never rent from Dollar, especially in San Antonio. They WILL cheat you out of your money. Its their company policy.
