Dragons Lair Comics & Fantasy in other cities:
One of the top gaming stores in San Antonio! They have something for everyone. Comics, A wall of Pops, Action Figures, all sorts of gaming, super squishy plushes, snacks, dice, minitures, statues, etc.Plus super knowledgeable staff! Everyone is friendly and helpful. Ive been going to this store for over 10 years and Ive never been disappointed. Today I went for trade paperbacks for my kids. I needed something for 11 year olds and a five year old. Several staff members helped me find just the right books. There was even a book for my 5 year old with no words, just the images told the story.I love this store and I love the staff there too!
A comics and games shop that has a dedicated place to play, with both private rooms for D&D and other games, and an open area for general play. Theres a lot of events the place runs, also. Thursday is boardgame night. They do not sell singles. They DO hold copies of comics for you. Ask about this service, its free.
Have been visiting these guys for a WHILE now! Every employee is awesome and will help you with anything you need with a smile! If you wanna nerd talk about comics and Manga, they got you. If you wanna shop in peace and just browse, they got you. They keep social media updated with all of the new product arrivals and run a great comic subscription service to make sure you get every comic your heart desires. During the not so pandemic-y times they run great Friday night magic and have amazing game rooms you can utilize for board games and more. Go give these guys a shot, you wont regret it!
This is my comic book store! Always will be. I’ve been a loyal patron for nearly 20 years (it went by a different name that far back). The staff is amazing! The prices are FAIR! The store is clean organized and I get everything I need through my subscription. That’s a plus, they know their customers, and they have been amazingly patient and strategic during the pandemic.I want to thank each and every one of you for what feels more like a partnership that a consumer/seller social contract.Highly recommended!
I just moved to this area and decided to pass by this place and it was cool at first until I got to the cashier, she was very annoyed because I asked her for some cards that are behind the counter. I was like okay no problem maybe shes having a bad day, but when I went to pay she legit didnt even say a word and only pointed to the machine to pay with my card like I was stupid. Very unfortunate because I really liked this place and was planning on getting some things for my gaming room.
When I first moved to San Antonio in 86 I found The Dungeon and when it went away I thought that no shop could ever capture its gestalt. Dragons Lair is a chain from Jastin but each store seems like its unique in its atmosphere and operation . The staff is what truly makes this place unique. They are so amazing, helpful, and friendly. One of the best things they do is offer a subscription service. Yes, you can get comics, but they are happy to add games as well. In addition, they are great at suggesting new titles and games mad adding it to your box with no obligation to buy it if you decide to pass.
Recently went to buy Pokemon cards. Spoke with someone over the phone to ensure the location had some and was informed yes as well as a limit which included 8 per person. Walked in with me and one other person and was only allowed to get 8 packs max, despite me going to this location a few days prior and purchasing 10 packs total equating 5 per person. Didnt want to be a Karen so i didnt say anything. So is it 8 per person or 8 per transaction? I can respect limits, i wasnt going to buy out the whole store however, for future clients i would explain if its actually 8 per person or 8 per transaction. Ive recommended my friends to this location, and would hate to have them disappointed due to this.
This is the best comic shop in San Antonio, hands down, no contest. The prices are great, the selections and inventory are awesome, their gaming rooms are super cool and best of all, the staff is friendly and welcoming of newcomers, which is extremely important to me. Plenty of other shops really make newcomers feel left out or unimportant or even inferior compared to regulars, but this shop has never done that to me, nor have I witnessed them do it to others. The employees here are understanding, helpful, and enthusiastic. They all really seem to love their job. Their positive attitudes really spread over to me and make me feel comfortable and welcome in their store. They hold great events as well, and the place in general just looks great. I only wish I lived closer to this location, then I would be going over every day. Making the trip over is always worth it, though. I’ll definitely be sure to stop by on Free Comic Book Day. Last year I came pretty late, but they still had plenty of good books to give out! My favorite shop ever. You guys are the best!
Excellent game selection. They have rooms available for gaming events although Ive never gotten around to attending one. Im not a comic book nerd but their comic selection seems decent. They keep a good stock of Funko Pop figures as well. The employees are always polite, kind, and generally knowledgeable. This is definitely the place to go if you want to support your local brick & mortar over Amazon, and many of the prices are comparable. If they dont have something youre looking for they can almost always order it for you.
Very good store for comics and tabletop games. The annex offers free demos as well as magic nights and board-game nights, and the store proper has fcfs private game rooms, ample role-playing and tabletop games, and even a limited selection of miniatures. The selection of comics is also superb, and theyre always offering great deals on older comics. The service leaves a little to be desired. Sometimes the employees are more than friendly and helpful, but a few only barely meet expectations. This only barely sullies the store though, overall its a great experience and I recommend it.
I usually have a great time at Dragons Lair. Whether Im just browsing through the store, purchasing something, putting something on layaway, or a combination of all of the above I usually leave happy. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They also give a 10% military discount for active duty, guard, reserves and veterans. Always a good place to visit.
Neat place, has game area, private rooms, and a good variety of merch. I was hoping to find some unique pops but their collection was lacking or some new d&d minis but the selection was small. MTG seems to be their main thing. If that is your hobby youll love this place.
Always have a small but varied and great selection of paper comics, graphic novels, manga, board games, etc. it’s always my choice of stop when I’m in the medical center area. Employees are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and are always eager to help you with your nerdy needs. I had a few questions about a specific comic series I had been hunting down and they were able to help me find what I was looking for.
The customer service here is genuine and great. Their knowledge of both the Marvel and DC Universes is extensive and precise. Fantastic product selection and large gaming area. Operating hours are also a huge plus! A little known fact that only I am privy to is that there is a 99 percent chance that comic books and the art of gaming were invented at this Dragons Lair location(circa 1300 AD). 😀
Excellent selection of comics and books! Also houses a wonderful warhammer 40k community that actively welcomes and helps newcomers (like me). Was able to actively talk shop with the person who worked the register and he seemed to be engaged in the stuff I talked about to him (or just pretended very well. Either way, fantastic job!)
Every time me and my partner come here theyre always super friendly and ready to help. Its always easy to talk to them and theyre always very patient. Clean, orderly, and willing to order in books they may not carry. Very tempted to rent a room to play some D&D sometime!
Love this shop! Mostly go in for comics and graphic novels. Have an excellent selection with current comic issues. Dont have back issues, but I go for my weekly issues so it suits me well. Have a great selection of graphic novels as well. Can find what Im looking for pretty easily. The staff has always been very friendly to me and are helpful when I do have questions. My favorite out of the shops Ive been to since moving here. Recommended very highly.
Love this place great selection of all comics and anime collection. We go for dnd sessions always nice and good selection for helpful guides and figures. Always gotta check out the dice selections always got new sets coming in and dont last long either. Get the cool ones while you can.
Great store, amazing staff. I have been coming here for years... They have excellent distribution and if you really want something they dont have - they will order it for you and promise you get it or your money back. I ordered something once and they tried to get Diamond to send it, and Diamond ran out. They gave me an immediate refund back on my card after a phone call. I didnt even have to go down there in person that day when it was raining. They have some knowledgeable people when it comes to 40k, D&D, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Shadowrun, etc. Some really good inventory in here for your comics! Excellent prices too. You are better off coming in here and buying it than going online - a rarity in retail of any kind. Alot of this stuff goes for way too much on the web, might as well support someone who keeps this kind of dream alive.
My favorite comic shop in all of San Antonio. Huge selection of comics, games, Warhammer, D&D, clothes, Pops, stuffed animals, graphic novels, and more. They only hire knowledgeable and friendly staff that are willing to help customers. There are now two locations in the city. This particular location has an amazing side gaming room along with the original gaming rooms. These are open to reservations. I cant recommend this shop enough.
Found out about store with release of Digimon TCG and was really excited to visit and to start playing the new game. Was incredibly disappointed come release day when the game was only being sold in boxes and on top of that for nearly double MSRP. This was extra disappointing given the fact I had spoken prior to one of the store reps who mentioned packs would be sold and at MSRP if not slightly above. Nothing about nearly double, nothing about only selling boxes. When I changed my mind given the markup the cashier felt the need to tell me the boxes would sell out soon regardless.Particularly for the parents I saw trying to do something fun for their kids by buying, watch out, dont let local game stores take advantage of you or your children. Dont let them try and convince or scare you into paying such a high markup. I understand it was a challenging release, but im really curious as to how such a high markup was warranted, and I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Best place to buy board games, comics, and trading cards. The staff here is very helpful, and if they dont have the item youre looking for in stock, theyre order it for you and call you to let you know its ready to pick up. Good people who are passionate about gaming work here, so I am happy to spend my money with them whenever I can.
Great shop. The staff and friendly, and they have a ton of stuff. They stock everything from board games, to games workshop, American Comic books, to Japanese Manga, and walls of pop figures, if youre into that. They offer one of the largest play spaces in town for games, but sadly fo me (and happily, great for them) theyre almost always packed, so its hard for me to drop in for a pickup game with friends. Full disclosure I have been a long term customer of Dragons Lair going back close to 30 years at this point though theyve changed names a couple of times and location once.
Good rpg and wargame sections. Decent card and board game selections, though I kept finding expansions for games that they didnt have the base game for, which prevented me from being able to buy them. Prices were a little higher than other places but that didnt stop me from making purchases and supporting local businesses.
Always friendly, helpful and amazing staff. At Dragons Lair everyone is always welcome to share their passion and numerous interests in the world of geek culture. Incredible selection of everything from tabletop games to trading card games, comics, manga and many pop culture merchandise.
Not a comic book reader, but this place has a great selection of games, including tabletop, card, and board. The staff is polite and helpful. There are a few private rooms you can reserve as well as an open annex for gaming. WiFi is free and there is a public restroom. To top it all off, theyre next door to a bar.
They have a ton of board games, a ton of comics, and even some d&d stuff. Pretty much as advertised. I think they also have rooms where people play games if youre into that.Probably the best thing about coming here is the table where everything is half off. It lets you buy a bunch of stuff without having the guilt of spending $150 on warhammer books.Overall clean place, friendly employees, and cool stuff for the average tabletop player/comic book reader. Oh and they sell 10 billion types of funkopops.
Compared to many other table top stores, Dragons Lair is a very welcoming place to be with a great mix of NEW comics, games, and collectibles. The people here are friendly and theres no such thing as an outsider, which is reassuring for people trying to get into the modern geek scene. I mostly come to play Magic the Gathering on Fridays, but if I ever needed to pick up a manga series or a graphic novel I can easily get it here or have them ship one in. I emphasise that the store feels very now, they dont have hoards of old comics for life long collectors nor unopened sets of War Hammer figures from 1990. I prefer it this way because its really difficult to find some place who cares enough about the medium to stay up to date other than sticking with the old and nostalgic. The freshness of the store shows and I wouldnt want to game anywhere else.
I absolutely love Dragons Lair, they have friendly staff, the atmosphere is so fun and relaxing, they have a lot of variety with comics, pop culture and games. I also love that they have events here where you can meet artists and get free comics and play games. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help.
The guys and gals at Dragons Lair are always pretty cool when I run in there with a question, or to pick up my comics. Theyve been doing a great job keeping up with all my subscription pulls, which is more than I can say for other comic shops in the area. Theyve got a great selection of games and hobby materials, comics, manga, toys, and even fun quirky candy. Happy to be a loyal customer.
When I went into this store, the staff completely ignored me. When I asked about certain Dragons I was interested in purchasing, the person behind the counter acted as if it was too much bother to help out. Thankfully, a young woman that worked there came over and tried to assist me. But at that point I was too disillusioned with the attitude of the other staff member. The store appears to have a good supply of items and potentially could be a great place to visit. From the other reviews I have read, I am hopeful that the experience with the staff person was an anomaly. I will stop in again sometime in the future to see if it is any better. (people do have bad days)
Decent service with a great selection of tcgs, board games, comics and various other stuff.Only thing I did not like were the amount they charge for booster boxes.Far cheaper online or at other local hobby shops.Wanted dragonball super box for $110....when they range from $30 to $70 for a box online (unopened with 2 promos) and $80-90 at competitors.
Went here knowing very little about the figurines I wanted to start getting into. Mark was super helpful and patient to answer all of my questions and help me on my journey to picking out my first set. They had a great selection not only of figurines but manga as well. Great store!
This is a really good local game store but you can go to and get basically anything you need provided its something thats not 40K. You might be wondering why I am specifically mentioned in this and that is because their 40K selection is extremely poor compared to the rest of their games which have extremely good selections. If youre looking to buy basically anything tabletop related are card game that isnt 40K this is a great store to go to. Whats even more surprising is the fact that they have basically every form of Citadel paint in stock yet not the figures in which to use said paint with.
A little of everything for nerdy type games. Great selection of Funko Pops, Board Games, Dice sets, and Comics.Their selection of D&D 5e and Pathfinder is probably the best youll find in the area.Alot of things to do here whether its Tournaments or Gaming tables. They always have a welcoming environment without being too pushy.
Ive never felt so disrespected as a frontline worker until today. I went in to go buy some Pokémon booster packs. As she scans the packs, I take out my ID Badge to show her Im a frontline worker. She looks at the badge and looks confused. I mention to her that I was a frontline worker. Her response was are you EMS?. I told her no, and that I administer the COVID-19 tests to the public. She responds with well, this is ONLY for first responders and frontline workers. I ended up not buying the booster packs because of the way she addressed me as not a frontline worker. I have never felt so disrespected for what I do for the community of San Antonio; overcoming this pandemic. I will never shop here again after this experience.
Probably one of the best, if not *the* best gaming shop in town. Theyve got a full selection of games, comics, and other geeky collectables to cover anyones interests. And more importantly, the place is clean, doesnt smell, and the stores staff dont give off a total creeper vibe like many of the other hobby shops around town. I love Dragons Lair. I just wish it was as big as the one in Austin.
Really like the atmosphere at Dragons Lair. The shops always clean and well-organized, the staffs friendly and knowledgeable about the products they sell and the culture of their demographic. Ive never taken part in any of the games played there on site, but the area for it looks as clean and well-organized as the rest of the place. They carry a wide variety of tabletop games, cards for trade/battle games, comic books and related merchandise, some anime merchandise and model-building supplies, plushes and snacks, a nice variety of Funko Pop figures thats kept up to date with new releases, a surprisingly good selection of manga. Their prices are reasonable in general, and you can get really good deals when they have clearance sales.I stop in at Dragons Lair whenever Im in the area, and will continue to be a customer.
Possibly the best comic and gaming emporium in San Antonio.CARDS: They got em, but no singles.MINIS: A fine selection of manufacturers.GAMES: Excellent selection.COMICS: Again, excellent. Back issues, not so much. They DO tend to purge the stuff that doesnt sell, so dont expect to find much that isnt currently in print... but otherwise, they have the selection, the staff is a fine bunch, very personable and helpful, even if youre one of those types who wants to sit there and yammer about which captain was better, Kirk or Picard. Id recommend it to anyone into comics and games.
Great selection of new comics, but only new comics. No back issues. I like shopping here because if I am behind a few issues of new comics, they usually have a copy or will order one for me. Other comic stores, Heroes and Fantasies, starts charging you an extra dollar after 2 weeks of release.
Best gaming store in San Antonio and thats no lie. Love the staff and the prompt service. Staff is genuine and honest with you. Selections are varied so alot of of interesting things to pick and choose. And the gaming setup is top notch with a separate room for magic and war hammer so the two dont bother each other. And the prices are definitely the lowest and best Ive seen in the city which always makes me buy from there versus anywhere else. Only bad thing is that its a little further away, grr!
One of the few stores in San Antonio with TTRPG materials and the best selection in my opinion. Theyve also got board games, manga, comics, figured and more. This is always my #1 destination if I need to buy any of the above or if Im just in the area and want to browse.
Dragons lair employees have always been kind and courteous while I was there, whether that was to just look around, play one of the various games they host, or buying comics. I dont think I could give them a negative review because Ive never had a negative experience there.
Been a neighborhood FLGS for years, but recently, as a consumer, it really feels like this store has oriented itself to being ‘the store.’ Another competitor has popped up in San Antonio, and it forced them to raise their game. Kudos to the store managers who saw this possibly take this down a bad road, and adjust the store to properly confront the situation. Best of wishes, and it’s good to have you another year!
This place is need paradise. Not a single person Ive met that works here or plays here has ever been rude or judgemental. They have lots of TokiDoki and the Manga selection is pretty decent. FANTASTIC game selection. EVERYONE here is more than happy to answer any questions or find out for you if they dont know.
I am always greeted with a smile and employees always looking to help. I was there the other day just browsing and the employees were more then happy to answer questions about various games I was thinking about. They even helped me find a Spanish version of The Walking Dead. I highly recommend this place.
I came looking for some anime figures, they didnt have too much, but the place is really nice, lot of comics, mangas and more. And despite they had not much figures I got a cute nendroid with 50% off, and there was another cute figure but the box was too big so I wouldnt be able to take it with me back to Mexico (-3-).
Been going there since I was in my late 20s and I made some friends and now I have friends to play table top games. But I dont want to say any names of of there. I was accused for trying to an employee iPhone really? 1) first thing with me I hate all Apple products and so on. 2) I dont remember so something meaningful things to an female employee and if I do apologize for saying something meaningful towards you. This is way I keep to myself when I go out with anyone
Reliable and alwasy on the go to make sure you are able to find what you want. If they dont have the comic or product you are looking for they will try and order for you on the spot. Torunaments are also on the go its hard to keep up since there is always something going on.
Shop is very organized and alright for games and collectibles, there wasn’t a very good selection on the comic side in my opinion, they seemed to have mostly new age comics and items that you could find at Barnes and Noble, with a little more expansion on the comic side this could easily be a 5/5, the employees were also very attentive.
Not the place to shop if you are new to tabletop gaming. I was treated like a child after asking where they had the sets of starter dice. They had plenty of merchandise though, so if you are looking for something card/comic/tabletop related they probably have it. Just dont expect a friendly atmosphere.

2021-12-30Super clean and organized! Havent been here in 2 years and they have made lots of upgrades! They took a wall down so its very open space. Got lots of Warhammer, magic the gathering, and manga. They got a nice big fridge for drinks. All the workers are friendly and the whole place has nice welcoming vibes. 10/10 would come here again and again and again

2021-09-05I hadnt been to this Dragons Lair location in a few years, so l was surprised recently by how much bigger the location has gotten and how much more variety of merchandise they are carrying. Everyone who worked here was super kind and helpful. They carry pretty much all the nerd stuff you could want from plushies & figures to Asian snacks to all kinds of books & manga and everything in-between. There is stuff for role playing (such as D&D), anime merch, card collectors, Pop vinyl collectors, comic book collectors, and more. My husband and l spent way much more than we intended. We were both impressed by not only the selection but the layout of the store and how clean the place appeared.

2022-09-08While originally I went in to look at their miniatures, I ultimately found myself browsing the whole store. With an easy to navigate layout and great selection, its not hard to see why they were so busy. But even with the amount of people there, I never felt over crowded. Their employees were nice and helpful if we had any questions. I will definitely be coming back soon!

2022-07-13Would not recommend this place for Adventure League. it used to be great. But since the lock down it has been failing hard. The current people running play favorites, and bully people they dont like. They allowed brand new adventure players to make high level tier 3 characters for their paid epic without those players ever playing in any adventure League before. They will then turn around and hassle and bully other players for minor errors or minor log issues. They enforce rules when it is convenient for them. The new organizers (1 of the 3 is ok, Dusty shes fine) also ran a mod that was not Adventure League legal, gave out the magic items only to then MONTHS later telling certain people they cannot use that item anymore. Me and my wife will never go to this store again for anything. There are amazing stores that could use our money better, like court of gamers, or knights watch. I would avoid this place if you want to play adventure League, until they figure out what they are doing.

2022-05-14They have a good variety of comic books and manga. They also have gaming rooms, as well as lots of tables and chairs in a big open room for games. Tons to see, and the gentleman who helped us was friendly and knowledgeable.

2022-08-17Best! Store! Ever! This is a fantastic place for nerds of all kinds! Theyve got manga, comics, lite novels, model kits, tabletop games, memorabilia, funko pops, gunpla, plushies, and more! This is my absolute favourite place in the world to visit anytime I have some spending money, and one of the only stores I actually feel like I can relax in. The staff is always helpful and extremely polite. They host local gaming events for those who are interested, and all around do a great job of making themselves feel like a home-away-from-home. Cannot recommend enough.

2022-06-14Great place for comics, games, and related gifts. Go there all the time. I feel like the comics maybe take a second seat to the gaming and pop culture gifts. Other than recent stuff, no back issues... that sort of thing. But they do get some cool indie titles in on the regular which is cool, so good selection. Good TPB selection! Im not much of a gamer, but it looks like a great place to play MtG, D&D, Warhammer, etc. They have a big room for that and a few private rooms. Lots of pop culture gifts, pops, etc.

2022-08-22I was just looking around the place to see what they offered. They have board games & card games; TTRPG supplies including several books for various systems such as D&D, Pathfinder, along with some others like Call of Cthulhu; comic books, graphic novels, mangas, and more; a whole mini wall of funko pop figures; game tables and a private room; snack boxes and even drinks! Great selection and the staff was extremely friendly. Will definitely spend more than I should here!!

They carry imports as well. So much stuff its easy to break any budget you set for yourself lol. They also have gaming rooms for use and host a lot of events. We need more places like this. 2022-07-01Tons of loose dice as well as a good variety of dice sets. A Go-to for comics, Magic and current board games/ strategy games. Plenty of room for ccg throw down!
