Im torn on this review. I think this is a valuable place, good people working there. My dog had a minor surgery done a while back. I feel like she got excellent treatment, but I was stunned at how much they charged me for a biopsy (well over what the estimate had been, despite being told everything went as well as it could have - no difficulties). This weekend my dog was injured and we took her there - waited 6 hrs before they said they just couldnt get us in. I appreciate they are taking care of more urgent cases... it is just hard to wait that long with a dog who did need medical attention and then get turned away. Overall I believe they do good work and are trustworthy. I would take my dog to them in a very urgent situation in a heartbeat.
Wonderful staff. They were very friendly and helpful which is what you need when youre anxious about your pets. Wait on Sunday for something mild was only around 2 hours when everywhere else was 4-6. They were incredibly accommodating as well and let us take our very loud and big dog around the back and wait in our car.
Was disappointed I rescue did small kitten after Id been run over by a truck right in front of me and went in there to get this poor little baby helped because I just couldnt leave it on the side of the road the way it was and because it needed two surgeries with two broken legs they literally told me that if they couldnt find somebody to be financially responsible that because of the need for surgeries they would have to put it to sleep how inhumane I was horrified to know that I had rescued a baby and took it to save its life and literally was responsible for his life getting snapped out
My landlord and I brought his dog, Smiley, to this emergency vet on Sunday, February 21. We were warned that the wait might be several hours--understandable considering power blackouts and a still-raging pandemic--but Smiley was in great distress, and I had been to this animal hospital with friends and their ailing pets, so I knew that the staff and doctors were efficient, professional, and caring. Folks were waiting in their cars, and one of the staff came out immediately to look at Smiley and learn what we had observed. They then brought a stretcher out and took Smiley inside. Dr. Ohlen came out soon after that to explain that Smiley was hemorrhaging, a consequence of a tumor on his spleen. She explained that Smiley could die at any moment, and she wanted us to come inside. Smiley was an older (14-years-old, 70 lbs) dog, and we were not surprised by this diagnosis. Smiley had, the day before, been to my landlords primary vet who noted that Smiley was very anemic. And, for several days, Smiley had refused to eat. Smiley had to be euthanized, and Dr. Ohlen, an extraordinarily kind and articulate person, explained the procedure and its necessity. We are both extremely grateful for her compassion and her professional bearing throughout. Thank you.
I have used them in an emergency and now I have used both their surgical and oncology services for my kitty with lymphoma. They are very good and I highly recommend. Make sure to call first in an emergency situation because I saw signs today saying they are short staffed at the south location and are not open during the middle of the night temporarily.
TAKE care of all of our Rescue Fur Babies in our at Rescue that are seriously ill. If you live in Austin, Go see Dr. Chang & her team. From the front room assistants to the vet assistants, they are wonderfully, personable during your time of emotional upset. Its not easy dealing with anyone when your loved one, human or fur, is hurting, but these people listen & care. Our Smokey was diagnosed with cancer last week. Such a beautiful cat that the original owners threw out. We homed him for almost 2.5years. He thinks he is a dog. He walks down the street to the mailbox with my husband, & will schrill at the dog next door at the dog next door. Smokey, as ALL of our rescues are special. This PLACE is worth the time & money. I hope you can feel my heartfelt love for the staff, as well as our Fur Babies Rescue. Have A Wondrous Day.
Really impressed with their service (and incredibly grateful). Like most dog people, my pug is my four-legged child. They were quick, thorough, and just so loving to her-- AND very supportive and kind in explaining everything to me, too. I hope I never have to do an emergency vet visit again, but I would go out of my way to come back to this hospital. Thank you SO much.
This office has never me down. Yesterday was exceptional. My dog is very anxious when we go to the vet especially since I cant stay with him now. I didnt get her name but the tech was so kind to him & actually got him to go back to see the vet without me. The tech was equally kind to me. It was so appreciated!
We showed up and there were a few cars in the parking lot. There were only two people waiting. We were told it would be 4-6 hours and a vet tech would come our and assess. The vet tech never came out. We left after about an hour and figured anything that was going to happen could happen at home. The place didn’t seem busy. I don’t know why the 4-6 hour wait. The staff weren’t rude, but they didn’t make eye contact or show any concern. Before we left I politely asked why the wait and if there was a vet there. The woman politely said there was.Compassion goes a long way in human and animal care. I didn’t find any compassion here.
Called today, just before 11:15a, with a quick question concerning one of my pups. The woman answering the phone was rude, kept cutting me off mid-sentence, and sounded like she couldnt be bothered. It was a very disappointing experience.Had 2 knee surgeries done at the Round Rock location and they are much nicer there!
Im extremely satisfied with their service. Theyre very compassionate make sure and professional but the one thing that bothers me the most when I went there masks are not required. I was very uncomfortable I had my face I had a mask and a shield on and then when they put me in a room I just stayed there for an hour or so I did not want to be in the lobby with all those people which Eliza probably arent even vaccinated it really scared me I was going to walk out but I had an emergency with my cat and I couldnt. Meanwhile you have a big sign in the waiting room thats so Stage 5 can you see pictures with everybody but a mask on but yet you did not make people wear it. Just as dangerous especially when you get a lot of people like you do. I was very surprised and not in a good way! Listen to my dad
This used to be a great, reliable emergency animal clinic, but our latest experience with the vet technicians inspired little confidence in the care delivered. Our past experiences were so much better. Im left wondering if there have been some changes in ownership or management as these attitudes and behaviors often start at the top.
From the first time I called to all the follow up every single staff member has been so helpful. I want to give a huge shout out to Angela Lin she has been instrumental during this entire process. I am glad we took our dog here and have been impressed with the quality of service and staff. Thank you again for everything you do!
We were referred here by another vet, Allure in New Braunfels, and if youre looking for emergency pet services and see this review DO NOT GO TO ALLURE. Go here first. They are awesome. We were sent here by Allure at 8PM on a Saturday for an unexpected surgery for our dog. When we arrived they were confused as their surgeons go home at 6PM. I dont know for sure, but I think they pulled some strings and got a surgeon to come in after they put their kiddo to bed. It had been almost 8 hours for us at ALLURE and we were done and our pup needed the surgery badly. They must have sensed that and went out of their way to get a surgeon there ASAP. He hasnt even had the surgery as I write this review, but they deserve every star just based on the hour we were there. Thank you in advance.
Amazing angels work here, please be patient with them! They are doing some amazing things at all hours of the night. We should know, we just had to take our sweet baby girl Veya (African grey) here and they were able to see her right away. Shes in stable condiont now and we get to pick her up in the morning thanks to these Saints!!! Thank you all who work so hard to provide for our babies, it means more than you know! XOXOXO
Bad feeling about this place almost as soon as we sat down. Feeling reinforced by overhearing techs speak negatively about dogs and their owners, extremely over priced services, and a push for more services that were shown to be completely useless and unfounded after seeing our regular vet the next day. A breakdown of all the services and findings were supposed to be sent to out vet but they never were. Luckily we asked / demanded copies of everything before we left.
Even though the circumstances of being there were less than positive, the staff was very good and provided exceptional care and all available options. They provided multiple options explaining the pros/cons and plenty of explanation without providing and feeling of pressure to do one option over the other - just the facts, no fluff or guilt trips. They provided great care even though it was much busier than usual - it was Christmas and the parking lot was full. We did have to wait a bit because of their triage ratings they have in place, which is fair and understandable. So dont be a jackass and think your problem is worse than everyone elses. They are the professionals and are doing things the right way. It might be hard to have to wait a while but everyone else is in the same boat or have a worse situation that needs to be dealt with.I really cant say enough positive about the South location. Is it a bit expensive here? Yes. Do they provide great care? Absolutely. Would/will we be back again if we need care? Itll be out first call.
My cat was saved and well cared for a couple of years ago here. This time, another cat was dying of renal failure/cancer, and the doctor was great but the staff...not so much. I told them ahead of time I have 2 babies at home to feed but when I got there, they had me wait 1.5 hrs in my car before going in to say goodbye to to my dear friend before euthanasia. They didnt want him to die at home without an IV. The process felt rushed so I couldnt go through with it. So they wanted me out quick. I went home and called around to find a vet to help my pet cross over at home where its more peaceful. The hospital called and told me my cat took a turn for the worst and to come back in. They were doing CPR when I was one street away but when I got there they said he died while I was on the phone with them. Did they not continue CPR like I asked? This was not a pleasant experience. Then the staff forgot my carrier and didnt offer a receipt after charging my credit card.
Absolutely the best place in Austin. We had a pet emergency late at night on a Sunday and immeditaly called Animal Hospital South. They took my call, walked me through what to do and how to get registered before we arrived. We arrived and had a bit of a wait. I checked in to see our status on the wait and the Vet herself came out and checked on our pup. She diagnosed the emergency as non-critical, no permanenant damage, and that he would have a speedy recovery. She then said we would be good to go home or wait (which would be another 5-6 hours). We left, and are so beyond grateful for Animal Hospital South checking on our pup and diagnosing his condition quickly and professionally. Highly, highly recommend.
My husband and me had to take our dog there because she was spayed a couple days ago but it looked like the stitches were open. We get to this hospital and call to see if they can see our dog, they said to fill an application online, call back immediately for more details and let them know what parking spot we were and that someone would be outside to take the dog. We waited ONE HOUR in the car and no one came, so my husband called and they just told him that they didn’t know what parking space he was when my husband told them in the previous call where was our location. 15 minutes later, a woman (I guess she was a nurse) came in to check our dog and said that if she didn’t consider that the wound wasn’t a priority (the wound was bleeding and had a yellow/green color) we had to wait 4 hours in our car because there were more important dogs that needed their attention, this woman wasn’t nice at all, very rude with every answer that was given. We decided to leave and go to another place, please avoid this place if you can.
I’m not sure if this place has gone under new management, but you are a mediocre establishment.Absurd waiting (get more staff), second rate attitude (get better training or get a better personality), and simply do better. Last couple times we had to be there you were essentially no help medically speaking, and the last couple of times you had us wait with a dog agonizing in pain for at least 2 hours to come back and say you can’t see him.I don’t care what your urgency protocols are, if you’re not competent enough to implement a better course of action and staff you need to go out of business or get bought out by a better group.
So I hear that you should not comment when you are emotional. I have waited 8 days since my 14 year old cat died. On 06-09-2021 one of the coolest cats in the world passed over. It happened quickly. Maybe with in 45 minutes of him being in distress he was dead. When I first noticed his terminal condition I loaded him up in the car and headed to this place. They helped me and my dog Jesse when he died back on 7-15-2012. Covid-19 precautions suck so bad. As soon as I pulled into a spot and parked I texted the number on the sign. Meow meow died as soon as I started to text. Thank God. No way was I going to not be there when he died. So just an f.y.i. be prepared if you have to put a pet down you wontbe allowed in. I miss the old days when people werent scared of everthing. Time to start living again.
I just called because my dog ate an Advil pill and his normal vet said its an emergency and to take him for treatment, and they laughed at me on the phone and told me it wasnt an emergency. Not the way to treat dog owners who are scared for the safety of their pets. Left me still feeling really worried and upset.
Pricy, like any emergency pet visit, but our dogs needs were met in a timely and respectful manner. Instructions are clear on their website and upon arrival. The staff was friendly and reassuring. Loved that all the information (discharge, invoice, exam, etc) was emailed to me, made communication that much easier.
Came to the office at 1:35 pm they took my puppy in.. we waited 1hr & 30 minutes no update.. I placed a call to them to know something about my puppy. Staff was very short..he is fine and resting ...Another 1:30 no one reached out to us.. I finally asked someone one she came back with he is resting & there are two other dogs in front of him. 1hr 30 min later finally the doctor called to tell me they need to run test but need to pay before they do.. 325.00 dlls. By this time it is 4:30... Was told lab should be 1 hr.. left came back @ 5:19pm placed a call to let them know I was in the parking lot.. I placed a call back at 6:10 p.m and was told the test was not done correctly they have to retest I have to wait another 45 minutes..I still dont know what is wrong with my puppy.. the staff I spoke to was like yeah sorry..... still sitting in the parking lot..This place is ridiculous... Never again.. will I come here..
I went here on Saturday morning at 3 am because my dog was panting hard and was whining in pain. The vet tech came out and I explained was going on. He seemed annoyed and said that if I wanted to wait it was at least 4 hours (there was only one car next to me) but by then my vet would be open so I could go see them instead of waiting. Wow... to drive over 30 minutes only to turn right back around. Never again will I try and see them.
Took my dog in the first time around 6:30pm and got told they wouldn’t see my dog because I didn’t get paid till an hour later, but failed to mention the first time that the wait was 6 hours so it wouldn’t have mattered anyways. So I come back after I get paid, we wait for about 20 mins before they come to even talk to us. They tell us and I quote that she’s “not a priority and that they’re putting her on the back burner.” The lady was being pretty condescending while speaking to us that whole time. Like she’s had the problem for three days, been in pain three days, I’d say that’s pretty important.Anyways we wait an hour and I made some calls, found another place that had not so bad of a wait, so we went up north and her symptoms were severe to them, she was taken in as high priority and turns out my baby had a spinal cord injury.Long story short, poor/rude service. If you need to go to an animal hospital go to Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center instead of this place!
Read the other 1 star reviews as I had a similar experience. Waited over an hour and half at 11 pm on a Wednesday night with no service after I checked in so I left. Parking lot was nearly full so hospital staff is clearly undermanned and overworked. The parking lot itself was redesigned with covers for cars, but the are too small and leave you little room to get out and ding your door. They closed their public bathrooms because of the pandemic so if you have to pee you will be wandering the area looking for a spot to go like everyone else. I have had a couple of good experiences with this place for emergency care over the past few years but clearly this is not the same business it used to be.
Apparently gave this place 5 stars a long time ago, but Im changing it to 2. Was recommended to come here by our regular vet. As I explained our issues to their vet she said, Why are you here? Why didnt you go to [regular vet]? Um, because they told me to come here? My cat needed an ultrasound and our regular vet doesnt do them. Thats why we were there. As I finished explaining I then got the remark, So what are you wanting? An ultrasound? Cos thats not gonna happen. Apparently they dont do them on the weekends, but surely there was a better way than that to tell an upset owner. The 2 nurses/techs we had were great, but then the front desk girl ruined our time here again. She was cold and after everything couldnt even make me the damn ultrasound appointment before I left even though both the vet and nurse said the front desk would.
I know five star reviews and I want to get overlooked because people might think they are bought. But I had one of the worst things imaginable happened as a dog owner and got the phone call but not one but both of my dogs got struck by big truck. I rushed to the first place I can get to which happened to be emergency animal hospital (south location) not knowing what to do I called the phone number when I got there but there was Wait for the callers and I didnt have time to wait for six ahead callers. I rushed to the door and instead of making me wait in my car they got people out and to me and my dogs within minutes of me being there. In one of my darkest hours they were there to take charge and help, they were quick and efficient and oh so caring. These people do not get enough credit for the job that they do because these people are truly angels on Earth. Im so glad they were able to tend to both my dogs!
Checked in at 8 pm on Saturday with our dog who was in a fight and has multiple puncture wounds. It is now 1 am on Sunday and he has yet to be seen by a doctor. The risk of infection increases with each passing hour, so yes, were worried. Weve been waiting for 5 hours now. After 3 hours with no communication, we called them and were told hed be seen next. Two more calls and 2 hours later, hes still next. All the while we are not allowed to leave the parking lot until he gets seen. What kind of service is this?!WERE LEAVING. 5 1/2 HOURS WAITING. OUR DOG WAS NOT SEEN BY THE VET. THEY OFFERED NO APOLOGIES, NO EMPATHY, NO RECOMMENDATIONS, NO CONCERN. THIS PLACE SUCKS.
Quite impressed with Emergency Animal Hospital. Had to take our pup in at midnight as he had been vomiting multiple times for an hour. Even the check in staff seemed to realize he had a cough and could be contagious, so we were led to a separate room where we waited for all the other steps. Be it the actual check in, the tech examination, or seeing the vet or checkout, it was quite speedy and they came to this room. Cost wise, it was a little over our normal vet bill, but not by too much, and pretty good considering it was midnight.
Ive visiting this clinic twice for two different pets with different issues. I cant speak highly enough about how the staff, vets, and overall experience was so caring, thoughtful, and paid attention to cost as well as care. Great communication about what was needed, what might happen, and great follow up care via email. These people truly care about you and your pet. It was a refreshing and wonderful experience to be able to trust what you are getting is the best and not being oversold unnecessary products or treatments just for the clinics financial gain (something Ive had experience with elsewhere). I live really far from them, but this is where I will always go for pet services. Its worth the drive and the wait when you get there (they are obviously busy for a reason). Plus special thanks and appreciation for the single front desk person who was managing all of this alone because coworkers called in sick. She missed dinner and worked over 12 hours and yet was still friendly, kind, and easy to talk to about what was going on, despite how she was obviously tired and stressed. She managed all of that very professionally which speaks to her loyalty and integrity.
I had to take my moms dog here one night and the staff was great. They were busy but they got us in fast. The vet was very compassionate. We had to put her dog down and they let us be with her while they gave her the medicine so she wasnt alone. They even gave us options for cremation. About a week later we were able to pick up her ashes in a beautiful oak box. They even made a clay paw print with her paw and name as a momento.
I cant comment on the quality of care the doctors gave our animal, because I never once saw them in the same room together, they took the cat from me when I arrived and I never saw her again until I was told she was good to discharge. But it was one of the worst experiences for me Ive ever experienced in a medical facility, animal or human. They are under staffed, over priced, and the staff acts like they hate thier jobs. I waited over 3 hours to have a doctor talk to me for 15 minutes. They kept the cat overnight for observation and tests and then called me to tell me to pick her up at a certain time. I arrived to pick her up and waited for over an hour just to get my cat. This place can afford more staff with how busy they are. Seems like they are just maximizing profits at the expense of pet owners and thier pets. Such an awful experience. Dont come here unless you have to.
Got my cats checked out & they were so awesome. They made sure to call to give clear instructions on where to park, to call when I got there & they came out to welcome me. I have 3 cats & they’re chubby boys & all together in their big carrier and they made sure enough staff came to be able to lift them and ensure they stayed comfy- given how awkward, yet needed trip rn route to their appt. they also made sure they got everything they needed. They called me and told me the prices before they went ahead with doing it. Also, the price was more than I was able to cover at the time so they just said to pay it off as I was able to.
They are really busy and you get the sense that youre annoying them sometimes with your questions and wanting to talk things through. Everyone, especially the vets, should work on their communication skills. They explain whats happening in very technical terms and stop and wait for you to ask questions instead of explaining in technical terms then saying what that means for your pet (this rules this out, this means this is likely, if you chose this route these are the possible outcomes or ways we can go about it). Its just been a devastating and horrible experience made more difficult than it needed to be. I understand that they see pets get sick and die everyday but we, as owners, do not. 3 stars still, though bc I felt the level of care was sufficient and speedy and thorough.
Last Saturday, a sore in my dogs mouth, an issue that was being handled by our regular vet (who was closed at the time), deteriorated. I called several emergency numbers and all had waits of 2 hours or more. The Emergency Animal Hospital had a wait of only 30 minutes at the time (and had good reviews) so we went there. From the two people we met at the desk to the vet tech who promptly took us in (the wait had apparently diminished) I couldnt have been more impressed. The front desk staff were friendly, empathetic and efficient. The vet tech took a lot of time with us and left the room numerous times to consult with the vet. She ultimately said that the situation was one that could probably wait until Wednesday but said that if we wanted to see the vet, that was our choice. I had confidence in her so decided that the vet probably couldnt do any more and said that the vet could take his or her time with someone else. And the icing on the cake was that since we didnt see the vet, we were not charged the $90 fee for a weekend vet visit. This was an additional relief (on top of the reassurance that it looked like he was in no discomfort so it could probably wait until the vet who had already begun working with Hunter on the problem saw him again in a few days) because our poor old dog was already scheduled for surgery on another issue in a few weeks. These guys were great ... and the facility itself was beautiful.
Unfortunately, we have had our dog and cat here in the past year for different emergencies. We had a long wait for the dog, but she made a full recovery. The cat was much quicker for service, but was during Covid, so a little harder to deal with. The cat also made a full recovery. The staff both times seemed very busy, but you can tell that they are doing their best. A few members of the staff could work on their bedside manner.
The vets, their assistants and front office people are very compassionate and spend time like all doctors used to really getting to know and evaluate their patients. I wish all vets were still like this. And people doctors for that matter. My kitty and I have been fighting to get him healthy for a month and a half and we both feel better after the visit.
First off, this is pretty much the only 24hr animal hospital in the austin area. Please, if your pet is having an emergency do not hesitate to go here simply because of a few negative reviews. Im really surprised to see so much negativity, especially people saying that the staff are like salesmen. I did NOT experience that in any way, shape, or form. I was very satisfied with the service I received when I brought my dog in on a Saturday evening. Yes, I had to wait about 2hrs before being seen, but thats because my dog was having a serious but non-life threatening emergency. During those 2hrs I saw people come in with dogs and cats that had been hit by a car/gunshot wound (seriously)/bitten by rattlesnake, etc. so I completely understood why I was continually moved back in line. Some people do not understand this concept and it baffles me. As posted throughout the building: You will not necessarily be seen in the order in which you arrive. Its a hospital, thats how it works, deal with it. Dont take out your frustration on the employees! I never once felt like they were trying to sell me unnecessary treatment options (and they easily could have based on my dogs condition), the doctor was really nice and sincere and informative and even told me I could come back the next evening for a quick followup and I wouldnt be charged an additional exam fee. I walked in expecting to pay minimum $300.00 but walked out with a $130.00 bill and a well cared for, medicated, healing pup. The nurse technicians were attentive and very helpful. While I was in the waiting room - still in line at this point - one of the techs went to the back to check on my dog and came back to let me know that she was doing fine and just sleeping in the kennels. I didnt even ask the tech to do that but I definitely appreciated it. The doctors here also recently saved the life of my friends dog when it needed emergency surgery in the middle of the night. So yea, 5 stars.
I brought my kitty here twice already and the doctors and nurses and front desk personell are all so nice. They check your pet immediately for life-threatening emergency and then schedule you to see a doc per emergency level. My kitty has spent a few nights here and then I picked him up at 6:30 am to take him to the vet for day care. They understand that most vets open at 8 so as long as you come before 7 to check your pet out, they will keep your pet in the back until you are ready to take him to the vet. This was very helpful for me as I dont know how to handle a pet with 2 IVs in for ~1.5 hours so they continue the treatment until 8 at no extra charge.
I went in about a month ago with my mom and my old dog Blackjack when he was seconds from death due to a failure in his stomach. She was shambling in tears slowly becoming a hot mess and the staff was very comforting and reassuring the whole time we were there. They were very respectful and helpful at that, offering us water and my mom tissues. Theyre very kind people and Im thankful that they were able to provide a very affectionate and heartfelt mourning process along with the procedure.
Of the 1 1/2 hours we were there, we saw the vet for maybe 7 minutes. We waited 17 minutes before anyone came to see us. The tech was in and out explaining and answering our questions. We had to ask the tech for the diagnosis. Everything was delegated to the tech.We were the only clients there! No one in the waiting room the whole time we were there. This is the only ER close to us.A warmer environment would be nice since clients are usually traumatizd
Theyve helped our cats in emergency situations and have always had above and beyond the most caring and comprehensive care. They also go over the expenses ahead of time and have been honest about if a treatment was truly necessary or not before performing it.Also whenever Ive had questions and called theyve given me honest/straight answers whether an afterhours visit was truly necessary or if it was something that could wait/be observed from home until they could see their regular vet.
We took our badly injured parakeet here, the vet helped us as much as he could and he was very calm and sweet about it. Ultimately, we had Snow put to sleep and I want to say thank you for letting us stay with him while he was sedated. Thank you for realizing how devastating that was for an 11 year old and, being very empathetic about it. We appreciate the nice box he was secured in for his funeral and hopefully we dont have any more pets in dire straits but we know where to go. Thank you.
I called as I am new to the area and one of my dogs was having difficulty standing and walking with a lot of eye movement and head movement. I came in and the staff was very friendly and reassuring to me. My dog stayed overnight. They took calls anytime over the night. I would recommend them as both of my children are in the vet field and they were satisfied with them when they called.
Come here if you want to spend 3 hours in the parking lot, watching countless people come and go with their dogs. They literally forgot I was outside, it wasn’t until I contacted them that they remembered and administered outpatient treatment! Terrible place to go for an emergency. Also, 500$ just for a stomach pump, opposed to the 2K they tried to charge me.
They have everyone fooled. We waited 3 hours for x-ray results on our puppy. They discharged him with meds. We got home and the Narcotic they prescribed was 3 pills short. I called and spoke to the girl at the front desk. She said the 3 pills were given during our visit. First of all it’s a narcotic and 3 tablets would have knocked him out. Secondly he was in my presence all if except 10 minutes to get the X Ray. Thirdly it was ordered as1 tablet every 6-8 hours so that means she was telling me that they overdosed him (Med error). Then I was told it was a typo on not only the prescription bottle but his discharge paperwork. Very crooked people. The girls at the front desk tell you just anything to satisfy you. I’m not stupid. Your telling me you gave my dog 3 narcotic tablets in the 10 minutes he was out if my site? Your either overdosing animals or someone is taking narcotics for themselves and trying to account for them by lying. Do yourself and your pet a huge favor. DON’T GO HERE! NO STARS AT ALL!!
We Brought our one year old pup in because she had eaten something on a hiking trail and a few hours later was acting dizzy and drunk, really not herself. I was concerned she ate something potentially dangerous and decided to bring her in after talking to a tech over the phone. We waited for about 45 minutes with our groggy dog, there were a few more patients coming in with much more concerning needs so we understood they had priority. One of the techs actually came up to us in the waiting room and checked out our dog. She asked if she had gotten any marijuana. We still have no idea what she possibly ate on the trail, but from the looks of her the tech said she was just stoned and of course confused by it.Thanks to that awesome tech for saving us a whole night of waiting to see a doctor and the bill that would come with it. Our “stoner” dog is okay and likely won’t do it again!
Il feel like Ive come here too many times. The front desk staff are really nice. The emergency vet here actually caught a heart murmur in my dog that had was probably undiagnosed for years.I would like to give a special shoutout to Robin. Shes amazing. I brought my bird in after a vomiting episode around 2 am. The fact that she had avian experience immediately calmed me and she was able to tell me what steps to take in the morning since they couldnt treat him there.
My family and I brought our dog in to this clinic tonight with the intention of having him seen. When we got there we were greeted by a vet and a tech of whom did a quick assessment on him. I decided to take him out to use the bathroom when he suddenly seemed less symptomatic. We decided to go ahead and take him home for observation instead of the immediate cost we would incur. When I told the staff, they were MORE than understanding and kind! I felt bad having brought him in and leaving.. but they did a great job ensuring my return if needed! They get 5 stars : ) So glad they are there!
They were not busy when I took my cat in and the doctor was able to see her right away. Unfortunately she was not very cooperative and the staff couldnt get a proper urine sample for testing, yet they assumed she had a UTI based on what little info they were able to gather by observation. They sent her home with medication for the next few days. The visit went quickly, they were professional and the bill seemed reasonable.
Do NOT go to this clinic. I took my my little dog last night because her belly was bloated and she was lethargic. The vet was completely incompetent and was only interested in up selling me. Her ONLY treatment offering was $200 X-rays. She did not offer to do a blood panel or anything else. This morning I noticed a huge bloody bruise under my dogs arm. This was not there before I took her to this clinic. Luckily, I was able to get her an appointment with my regular vet this morning. These clinics think because they have the word Emergency in their name they can completely take advantage of people and price gouge them!
After dropping several hundred dollars.Very rude tech trew my dog in my car when I proceeded to ask for instruction she didnt want to answer and said just read the instructions..there was a fluid patch on my dog again asked about it was short with a response SOOO RUDE this woman SHOULD NOT BE WORKING HERE.IF YOU HATE YOUR JOB GO DO SOMETHING ELSE. THIS WAS SHORT PETITE BRUNETTE. SOO MUCH ATTITUDE I WILL NO BE COMING BACK HERE. GO ELSMERESO EXPENSIVE AND TRAMATIC TO HAVE TO BE IN AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL TO HAVE THIS KIND OF TREATMENT IS UNACCEPTABLE
I have had at least three cats and two dogs in my home for over 30 years and have been to other emergency clinics in town when the need arose . The visit to this clinic was the worst experience I have ever had. The doctor seemed angry, complained about the notes sent from the dogs regular veterinarian, how terrible they were and told her nothing - the staff seem confused and we were left sitting for almost 3 hours in the waiting room without anyone telling us how the dog was. Two times staff came in with clipboards for information and when the doctor showed up and asked us to sign the form we had to go over (AGAIN) we had already done that. The dog ended up not being treated until the morning - which was a decision to put her down. Would not recommend at all. The doctors attitude was one leaving us thinking she is in the wrong profession, so unpleasant.
I have never written a review about any business in my life, but I am compelled to write this review tonight. I called the clinic because my dog had bright red blood leaking from his rectum and I was very concerned. The employee answering the phone told me that I should bring my dog into the clinic. Well...flash forward 3 HOURS later and NO ONE, not even a vet tech had so much as said hello to us. Finally, I gave up, left the clinic, and took my dog to a different emergency vet. The customer service is disgraceful. If they dont have the proper number of vets and staff on site, they should not accept walk in emergencies. I will NEVER bring my dog to this clinic and no one else should either.
The overnight is a joke. Worst customer service I have ever experienced at any place let alone a VET CLINIC that is supposed to be kind and compassionate. Desirae has unfortunately been there every time I have and she is the absolute worst of them all. She flat out told me one point that she knew more than everyone here and was the bestI had a dog who had cancer and was on her way to being put to rest and the DOCTOR told me my shift may or may not end in 15 minutes so what do you want to do?I have never met such horrible unkind people. I hear good things about the daytime vet but I have never interacted with them.
Our dog was attacked by another dog and needed stitches in his face on a Sunday, and this was the only animal hospital open that I could find. I’m so glad it was!Everyone has been so kind, both to me and my dog. They let me know the price before they brought him back to surgery, and it was considerably less than I feared. $300 plus tax for anesthesia, stitches, and the accompanying meds is completely reasonable.Plus Pocky, who usually HATES going to the vet (even for a checkup), has been totally calm. You never want to be at the animal hospital, but if you have to be, this is the place to go.
This is the areas largest and most capable all animal, any hour emergencyfacility. There is both an emergencyand regular veterinary clinic on site forease of long term treatment. As with all clinics if you have pet records available great. They do a lot of local referrals from other local veterinarians who can .not provide 24 care. One of the best features is the super visitation hourspermitted and encouraged with pet inextended stays. Their rates are in line with area costs and are within penniesof quoted figures provided.
I’d give it less if I could. I knew I didn’t want to go based on reviews, but it was 1am and I had no choice. The girl who and in after the vet had a temper tantrum taking my 10 lb Maltese’s temperature then took forever to get his meds. I looked at the size of pill (plastic type coating - way way too large for a small dog with a trachea issue already) and she threw another fit so I walked out. When I gave him the huge pill he puked in my car and started coughing/gagging again. PLEASE go to another emergency clinic as this staff is not up to par to take care of our loved ones
My dog ran away for 5 days while with a dog sitter. When she was found, she was taken straight to this clinic to get checked. They cleared her stating she was fine. I get home to give her a good bath and found a really nasty oozing, scabby rash the size of my hand under her armpit. Also found a tick. The worst part is I found a single gaping/open wound on her chest that was about the size of a nickel! How they missed all that, no idea. I had to take her back to another vet the next day and found that she had a mass cell that had ruptured and a really bad rash. Horrible experience.
Theres a noticeable lack of empathy in this hospital, but its likely due to the harsh situations(euthenasia, for example) they deal with every day. The staff is very professional though. No outrageous wait times. The doctors have a careful approach with pets best interests in mind. They can be trusted and I recommend this location for emergencies
Please do not take any animals here! Worst service of my life. We have had multiple poor experiences so much so that we had decided if our dog with cancer got sick we would not take him here after hours. We got desperate and called as he was dying to let them know we were on our way and the receptionist said well if hes dead you dont need to bring him here. We hung up and called AVES. They were compassionate and what a vets office should be like in time of emergency. Please do not let these people take your money.
Had to go in on a Sunday morning after my cat got into a fight with another cat (battle lost, war still ongoing). Told over the phone that they were busy but to get there and my cat would be triaged as appropriate. They were busy but I didnt think the wait was that bad. Front desk was quick and efficient. Seen by a technician whose name I didnt get but she was awesome and considerate, even through all of my crying and blubbing. Dr Johnson came in afterwards and he was just as awesome and considerate as the tech was. Everybody was helpful and, even though you could tell they were hopping busy behind the scenes, never made me feel like they didnt care. I would absolutely go back for emergency or routine stuff.
Took my kitty in for an emergency. She was bitten by another cat and was very ill. Yes the initial visit was around 100 bucks but the doctor was very honest and gave me a diagnosis and treatment that was affordable and saved my Maya kitty. I walked out only paying 220 bucks which for a 24hr vet clinic bill to me is great!! She didnt try to upsell me with unnecessary blood work or x rays. I received an antibiotic shot and pain meds, nothing more. Nothing less. Just gave me what she needed to get better. Thanks guys!!
Awful. I called because my dog was vomiting blood. They told me to come in right away.I came in and signed paperwork. One tech came and took notes on my dogs symptoms but never returned. I waited 2 HOURS and my dog never saw the vet or was treated.I inquired if we were somehow overlooked and the staff seemed very annoyed I even asked. They assured me I was next in line even though maybe one other person was present when I checked in.I should charge them for making me wait 2 hours for NOTHING! I up and walked right out with my dog and took her to normal vet the following day.Dont waste your time here.
The vet was very professional, however, Im noticing a trend of clinics overcharging just because. Nothing was different here. I was given an estimate for my dog if he stayed under observation and went on IV fluids. The vet said that wasnt going to be necessary, but when I got to the desk to check out, they were going to just charge me the full estimate, which I paid for, before looking at the sheet and immediately addressing that none of the things on the invoice had been done. They promptly refunded half the invoice amount. This is why I dont like taking my animals to a vet. I have yet to find a vet in Austin that doesnt seem to add things to the bill that arent actually done. They always find a away to charge for more services than they actually provide. VCA Tanglewood also does this, and both will guilt trip you for ever second guessing your decision. It all feels like a cruel con job.
The doctors and staff are not only very professional, but I will never forget how compassionate they were as I was losing my cat of 15 years. While what I was going through was my worst nightmare, they tried to make it as easy on me as they could. For that I am very grateful.
The first visit was honestly pretty pleasant as far as the staff goes. They could not figure out what was wrong and the only solution was XRays where they found nothing but then sent us home with meds. $300 later we were hoping this would work since this seemed like their ONLY solution. They told us to come back a few days later if nothing improved, however we wanted the meds to kick in full swing before spending more money for her itchy butt that they couldnt figure out the reason to. But a couple days later I called concerned and whoever answered the phone was NOT the first receptionist we had on the prior visit. She told me with attitude this clearly says in two days if you did not see a difference come in. What was the hold up? I replied, quite frankly I did not want to spend another $300 there to get a I dont know what wrong but try this again. All she had to say with a little more tone in her voice was that we could come in and get her checked out again for another $98 plus whatever else was needed. That short conversation, along with my cat not getting better from our visit has turned my opinion about this place into a negative. I dont mind spending more money to help our cat feel better but when they just tell me I dont knows I dont think so. We will be attending a different place from now on that hopefully will know how to take care and cure our baby.
Kylie, the vet tech, made all of the difference to us. We transferred a really ill female Rottweiler from our home vet to the overnight clinic for continuous care. She was on IV care for diabetes and she seemed defeated. Cheyenne (Annie), our baby, doesnt like people she doesnt know. Kylie carefully helped Annie out of our car and Annie walked with Kylie willingly. Kylie continued to care for Annie and helped us through leaving our baby in the care of strangers. Kylie showed us where Annie was staying and took special care to explain to us the care she would receive. Because of Kylie, we had the first real night sleep for almost a week. Im so thankful to Kylie. Im a great believer that animals recognize angels. Annie endorsed that Kylie is an angel. We are grateful for meeting Kylie. Kylie not only helped Annie but made an impossible situation tolerable for us also. I am so overwhelmingly thankful to Kylie for the care offered to us but most of all being someone Annie could connect to when she was so tired and defeated.
My cat had been seen by a close by veterinary clinic and didnt bother to give me his blood test results before they closed though they received the results at the same time as closing. My cat wasnt eating or drinking, or doing much of anything but laying down and sad. Hed lost so much weight. I rushed him over to the Emergency Animal Hospital and they just took great care of him. Gave me all the information I needed, answered every question, gave me time to decide whether Id let him go or let them try saving his life. Of course, I wanted him to live. He was 17 but general in great health and such a handsome companion whos bee there through the great and the horrible times. I am so grateful for their care of my buddy and would recommend them to anyone. The ONE thing I didnt like is that when I was transferring him from the day vet over to them at night, I had to wait 2 hours in the lobby with my cat who really needed to be hooked up to the IVs I was given so he could continue with his care. That was really not okay!!! They knew he was there over the entire weekend and would be coming back and forth every day until the ketones were no longer showing up in his urine (sorry to be graphic). I hope they read their reviews and this doesnt happen in the future to a patient. Its a very stressful time, and I know they get busy, and I can wait to see the vet, but my cat shouldnt wait to be hooked back up to his medications/IVs--not for 2 hours...
They are calm while you are freaking out. Obviously more than a normal vet since after hours, but totally worth it for emergency’s or if your pet is doing bad.One time my dog was having a really bad reaction to a steroid our former vet prescribe, we took her in, and she was so bad this place got her on IV n kept her for the night! I’m sure they saved her life or made her bad experience a lot easier. We are talking she was pooping blood, and extreme dehydration ... a no time to wait moment!!Thank the big man upstairs for after hours emergency vets & everybody who works here !!! Thank you
When I needed to take Dioji (my emotional support animal of 12 years), they didnt treat the situation like I had brought to them a member of my family but rather an old car they immediately deemed to have expired. Our regular vet oncologist wasnt available on the weekends so our visit to this clinic was necessary. Without inquiring about the opinions of our oncologist, the woman intaking Dioji looked at me and insensatively said, It might just be end game.Later that night, when my own online research revealed other possibly reasons for her newly escalating condition, I called them up and calmly asked why these hadnt been considered. I was mindful of not showing frustration so that I might best find what could help Dioji the most. That was until her responses began to seem overtly defensive & careless, getting us nowhere. Now the protective parent in me got quite upset and I asked to speak to someone in charge, as it was clearly not her.The new woman who then takes my call tells me the one who handles complaints wasnt in and then attempts to neutralise the situation with excuses (not reasons) whilst never showing the least bit of sympathy for what I was going through emotionally. She even had the nerve to accuse me of me of just wanting to vent because I found out my dog was terminal. She was not qualified to make these assumptions because she new nothing of the prognosis given to us by our oncologist or that Dioji had been getting treatment successfully for the past year. I was under no pretence that my gal would live forever and had already accepted this. But what I wasnt willing to accept was this cold, careless attitude in the canine medical field, as my gals not just a material possession or piece of property to me.Then as if believing she might have actually neutralised the situation adequately, the woman on the phone asks if I still wanted to receive a call back from the person who handles complaints. I calmly said Yes. I then hear a sigh come from her like I was still being ridiculous. I never received that call back.Places & behaviours like this are saddening and seem to go unchecked. Its past time for a paradigm shift in how pets & animals are regarded in the business of mainstream vet care.
The staff is amazing! Our sweet 15 year old dog was not doing well and we walked in and they took him right away at 10pm. They checked us in quickly and we spoke with a vet within 15-20 minutes. We made the difficult decision to let him go and they were so kind, compassionate, caring, and really listened to us. We will always be grateful.
The front desk staff were rude and became indignant when asked very basic questions about how long it would take to see a doctor, and whether anything could be given to relieve my dogs symptoms during the apparently incalculable waiting period. I was told that all of the doctors were incredibly busy, but then watched as one wandered around behind the front desk making small talk, eating a snack, and rearranging art work on the walls. (This is an after hours emergency vet place. The pet owners who are visiting are typically there because the situation is somewhat urgent). I understand that places can get backed up, and workloads can cause wait times, but these people seemed to lack a fundamental level of empathy and professionalism. By the way, when my dog finally did receive treatment (hours later), they were unable to induce vomiting, so I left, having spent a decent amount of money, with essentially no difference to my pet at all.
Twice I have brought my dogs here under dire circumstances, each a terrible experience. Please note, the after hours Animal Hospital here is different than the daytime hours hospital. Apparently the after hours emergency clinic is contracted out, the after hours clinic is the only experience I have with this location. Each time I was there, the clinic made me feel as if I were in a used car dealership, seemingly attempting to convince me into purchasing add-ons in order to save my dog. It would have been obvious to anybody that my dogs needed to be put down, quite obvious.....even to my next door neighbor who is a Doctor and helped me load my dog in the most recent incident into my car after the accident. Yet, the Vet Tech told me that she would spend the money if it were me. And the Dr. told me that my dog had a 75% chance of survival. And I dont give out percentages. I wont tell you what my dog looked like after being struck by a car, but the Doctors expectations were highly unrealistic based on so many things I cant even begin. Then...when I agreed to treat my dog and see how he fared after a day, they pulled out all of the signature pages. After seeing the document that said that I have to have my dog out of their hospital by 6:45 AM, because the Daytime clinic opens at 7, I was crushed. My dog was in such bad shape, 7 AM was only 8 hours later and there was no way that I would be able to take care of him at home. The Emergency clinic is not allowed to keep their patients at the Day Clinic, wow. The Vet and Tech had no advice for me about how to handle my dog in 8 hours when he was to be evicted from the clinic. It was tragic, and though this hospital may be great for a late night pet incident requiring a brief interaction with a Veterinarian, more serious incidents with extended care should be taken elsewhere. I found the experience very cold and disturbing. If you are an animal lover, you feel it.
I came here because another 24/7 animal hospital was too busy and good thing they told me about this place. As soon as we arrived we were given paperwork and a room. The wait was a little long, but that was understandable there was other pets there. The staff was amazing and professional while helping my mini aussie. He was vomiting and having loose stools, they gave him some medication and some fluids since he was dehydrated and he loved the staff. I would truly recommend this place to other pet parents.
My cat was urinating blood on Saturday evening into Sunday morning, so I took him over to the Emergency Animal Hospital. There was no wait, the staff was very polite, and the Vets went over multiple options and let me ultimately decide. Throughout my kitties 12 hour stay, the vets checked in even when they didnt need to.I was 100% satisfied and my little fella is feeling much better, though he wasnt to happy about the whole experience. As for price, Ive fortunately not had to do this often, and cant really compare. But this place is open 24/7 with labs, ultrasound, etc, so the price of around $250 seemed pretty darn reasonable.
I waited 4 HOURS for my puppy to get treated & at the end of the night nothing was done to him. All they cared about was the money - and you can tell right away! There are other places you can take your pets and get treated right away, but this place was surely a waste of my time. In addition, the people working there were very rude and unprofessional.
Poor is a better description, because fair never entered into this kind of service. I was quite disappointed. Our dog suffered a seizure, and was stumbling around, running into things and falling down. She seemed like she had a stroke. I took her in and within about 15 minutes was ushered into a waiting room while the dog was escorted in back. I assumed the vet or someone would be seeing me in short order. Well after an hour, I asked about when I might expect some service. I was told they were overwhelmed and had staff being called in and that I would be served as soon as possible. After hour number 2, I again asked about when I could expect some information about the dog. I was told we were next. I let them know I had come directly from waking up and hadnt even eaten yet. I left a number and left for lunch, returning about 20 minutes later. I was again ushered into a waiting room. 20 minutes later I gathered up my dog and left. My dog and I were there over 3 hours. No examination, no checking in on us, no explanation other than there were other emergencies. I believe if they are that overworked, they need to stop taking in clients so those animals on site can be taken care of in a reasonable time. Im sure they didnt charge me simply because they didnt want me to unload in the lobby. My 15 year old son was with me, and was amazed at how they did business.
Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE-->drive another 20 minutes to AVES (Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty), unless you have a true emergency with your pet. These are SALESMEN, not careful medical professionals. The first thing they do upon entering the prison-like setting: separate you from your pet to assess the pet. They then put you in a room without your pet, Vet comes in and proposes plan, making sure to stress the urgency and scare you about the worst case scenario. If you question it, the Vet will essentially roll his eyes and leave the room. Then, an incompetent and nervous technician returns to offer a cheaper course of treatment, stressing that youll be settling for it and most likely harming your pet.The entire experience is designed to strike fear into your heart, such that you become willing to pay pay pay. And all of the documents they want you to sign makes you agree to pay for any additional necessary treatment while under their care. I didnt trust these people at all.For my pet, they proposed an invasive, costly plan with several overnight stays. THANK GOD I TRUSTED MY GUT AND LEFT. I went to the pet ER in westlake, called AVES. There, my pet received only the minimal necessary treatment and left a happy camper. My pets medical condition was not nearly as dire as Emergency Animal Hospital made it out to be.
The wait is ridiculous. My dog was attacked by 2 pit bulls and openly bleeding and they made us wait well over 90 minutes to be treated. He had open wounds that bled out all over the room. I kept asking when he would be seen and they kept pushing me down the list. Meanwhile my dog was bleeding via the throat, ear and tail.
DOUBLE CHECK TIME BEFORE YOU GO.Heres the deal - this hospital shares a space with a vets office that runs during the day. If you show up before 6pm, no one will help you. The Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital operates there during the day, and come the end of their shift, theyre clearly not interested in your problems. I was told to wait with my bleeding dog until the other business came in to get started. Thank god my dog wasnt injured enough to be about to die - but they were in no rush to provide assistance or to triage my dog - so I wouldnt expect them to help you either. I certainly will NEVER drive here again in an emergency - there are other hospitals nearby that are willing to make sure your pet is taken care of in a timely fashion.I am completely shocked that two businesses run this way - they dont seem to get that emergencies are just that - and when someone googles emergency animal hospital theyre not paying attention to the time being during a shift change. Stupid setup, stupid idea, stupid implementation, and not worthy of anyones money or tears.
Rude service. This place did help me solve my problem with my dog but they didnt want to. They would have been just as happy with their days if my dog had died. No one there wanted to answer any of my questions and they continually changed their plans when they tried to come up with a treatment.
Helped me save my baby. Unfortunately it took two visits and 1000 dollars, but thats the nature of the beast. Medical care in this country is insane no matter the species. In conjunction with my regular vet, the ladies and gent kept my dog alive during an Addisonian crisis. I didnt know he had Addisons as you usually dont until they crash. He went in Monday night with a sick belly and we left with a sick belly but a clear xray for obstruction or bloat (my concerns). He went into a full blown Addisonian crisis Tuesday night, and I thought I would lose him. We thought maybe anaphylaxis or toxicity, but these guys were the first to suggest Addisons and Im not sure my regular vet would have gotten there in time with the diagnosis. Wed been at it two days by then. I have my boy, and Im so grateful!
I was worried about my dog late one night recently and was debating taking her to the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital (formerly named Austin Emergency Animal Hospital) to be evaluated. However, I did not want to expose my dog to the stress of another vet visit if unnecessary, as she had already experienced plenty of stress that evening at the Kyle Vetco and Petco (a whole different story). Additionally, I had a transportation issue at the time and would need to secure a ride, about 20 miles each way. Of course, my ultimate priority was my dog’s safety and health. I called the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital South Office number hoping for some guidance but fearing I would just be told “bring her in” as an automatic response. Jasmin answered the phone. I explained the situation in great detail, and Jasmin listened intently and with patience. We talked through the possibilities. She asked questions to gather more information about my dog’s status. Thankfully, I learned my dog was not displaying symptoms which would require a trip to the ER. Understandably, Jasmin did not directly tell me whether to go to the hospital or stay home; she left the final decision to me. However, she did provide me the necessary tools to make an informed decision. While still on the call, I made a plan based on our conversation. At that point, I would not be taking my dog to the ER. With Jasmin’s help, I knew what symptoms would necessitate a trip to the hospital. I felt great relief after speaking with Jasmin. I truly felt like she wanted the best for my dog and for me. She showed exceptional understanding, and I cannot thank her enough for her assistance. Oh, and If you are curious how my dog is… I wanted to keep a close watch on my dog after my call with Jasmin, so I did not go to bed myself until 4:30am. Lack of sleep was a small price to pay to make sure she was okay. When I got up a couple of hours later to start my day, my dog was fine and back to her healthy self. My sincere thanks to Jasmin and the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital for putting my dog and me above making a buck!
I just left this 24 hour clinic and it was lacking in customer service. The only person who seemed sincere at all was the the thin hispanic nurse. My dog got a fish hook caught in his leg while swimming at the Colorado river which is why I took him here. So after the charge of $174.00 dollars to remove this hook from his leg he went poo on the waiting area floor. I informed the lady working the front counter what happened and she seemed put out by it and never offered to clean it up so I asked if I could use her trash can in the waiting area to put the dog poo into and she said yes. about 5 minutes go by and I hear her complain about the smell so the lady getting back from her brake goes into the back and comes out with a broom then mop. While she is mopping he pees on the floor and I simply state that there is a new puddle by the front entrance and the lady mopping gives me a dirty look like she heard me and is put out by this. My poor dog is drugged out and it took 30 minutes after the removal of the hook to get my final bill and all the while I felt uncomfortable in the waiting area. I will never visit this place again and warn those who do to make sure they take there own cleaning materials in case the medication they give your pet causes them to dirty there waiting area. By the way my friend who works at a vet in cedar park said they never allow clients to clean up there dogs accidents and make them feel uncomfortable about it afterwards. There are plenty of other places in Austin opened 24 hours that will treat you and your pet with respect.
My experience with this facility was only to the extent of a phone call -- enough to put me off from considering it. I called because my vet referred me for a minor emergency for my puppy (she ate a bunch of lifesaver mints, nontoxic but not good). I told the woman at the front desk (I will call and get her name) that I had a minor emergency and needed to be sure that bringing my dog in would be the best choice. Instead of discussing my options or attempting to get me on the phone with a vet, she interrupted my explanation and said yeah if you have a minor emergency, bring the dog in. I then had to explain again that I didnt want to bring her in unless there was due cause. She interrupted me again and told me to call the poison control line (theres a $60+ fee for calls). I tried to explain again that I am trying not to spend any money unless necessary, and need to do whats best for my dog, and the woman was even more rude and short with me and completely unhelpful and not pleasant at all. Im disappointed and a little upset with the treatment I received in just a phone call.
I recently took my cat in here because he got sick because Im an idiot (I will admit it).Anyway, they took him back and tell me whats going on and how to fix it....The vet tech comes back with a HUGE number of $700 for an iv, sedation, meds, an overnight stay, and who knows what else(he only needed the IV and some medicine for me to bring home). And said if they didnt do all of that stuff to our cat that he would very likely die! I told them I couldnt afford $700 because Im a student and they offered me a credit line, which I also did not want to do because once again Im a student with enough debt.So the vet tech gets really huffy with me and basically acted like I was the worst person in the world for not being able to afford an outrageous bill. So after he talked with the vet they came up with the magical number of $200 (which was probably still too much....) for the visit, IV, and take home medicine. My cat is fine now with just the IV and his medicine , but they WILL take advantage of you if they can. They will guilt trip you and treat you like youre just awful for making a mistake. I would not recommend anyone take their animal here unless you just have to--and even then be careful to not get taken advantage of!Update: I am going to go ahead and say that they dont know what they are doing at this vets office because they prescribed my cat the same dosage of muscle relaxers that you would give a HUMAN THAT HAD BACK PROBLEMS. A 15 lb cat! He hasnt been able to walk straight all day and my dad who is a doctor said that he definitely should not have been given or continue to get that dosage (or even that medicine). So my cat has been drunk (but not seizing......) for nearly 24 hours now. Thank you vet clinic.
RATING BELOW 1 STAR.NEVER. I REPEAT, NEVER take your dog or cat here. The front desk girl with blonde hair complained about how long she was there “14 hours and I want to go home” & Vet has the audacity to “mom dog shame me” after payment system wouldn’t go through and bank was literally waking distance across the street so I could go to ATM. Was told I HAVE to apply for Care Credit to pay the bill, left payment on the counter they wouldn’t take & the meds with them and walked out.Now I get to cancel payment for 1/2 of what I was charged I didn’t receive services for. This place is horrible! Never as a pet owner have I ever experienced such unprofessional and condescending behavior. These owners need to evaluate their staff.
EAH staff were very caring and attentive. They were also very straight forward and open when discussing the dollars and cents. I received a hand written card from the EAH staff with their condolences after I had to put my dog down at an unexpected time. Thanks again EAH!
The lack of compassion and urgency with this clinic is so incredibly disheartening. we brought our pup in after a snake bite and there was such lack of urgency with the front desk and the vet. It took them forever before beginning the antivenin. Then throughout the process while she was there, they lacked consistency in communicating a plan. They rarely checked BP waited until she was so far behind in treatment before acting on anything. Ultimately, she died. But if she had gotten attentive, compassionate, and diligent care, Im sure she would have made. She was actually improving just hours before the last vet that cared for her took over, Dr. Jennifer Floyd. And from the moment she got there, Dr. Floyd had stopped a critical medication that my girl needed and was already telling us there was nothing else we could do and that they were doing everything they could. How are you doing everything you can when you are taking medications away that were helping my dog. She didnt even follow up on labs or BP. She would say, well the last reading was good, so we are checking it every 2-4 hours now, and right before that she had just said that my dog was very unstable and might not make it. Well if she was so unstable, then why are you taking away critical medications and not checking labs or BP. She should not be allowed to practice veterinary medicine. I would not trust her with your dog if you love them. She is the scariest vet I have ever met and completely unprofessional. I will never take my dogs to this emergency facility again. And I dont recommend you do either if your dog is really sick. They will eventually kill your pet.
I went to the South location for emergency care for my cat and I am still stunned at the low level of integrity with their billing practices. I am very sad and disappointed that a clinic would take advantage of people who are in vulnerable positions and scared. After coming into the clinic my cat was taken back to see a doctor and I was asked to wait in a waiting room for the doctor to come in. By time he came in I had calmed down enough to figure out that my cat had a back choking episode after coughing up a fur ball. Doctor said he wanted to do x-rays and a battery of tests. I told him I am on a strict budget and I need to “ok” everything but he could do the x-rays . He agreed and left the room. A tech came into my room with an invoice to go over with me that had a low end of $450.00 and high end of $750.00. I was stunned and in shock!!! The tech asked “how do you want to pay for this?” I said “I can make a deposit payment and then a payment plan”. The tech said “no, you need to pay in full”. She asked if I had a partner I could call or someone that would loan me the money or a credit card. I said “I have none of those and I needed to leave to get money”. The tech told me that I could not leave and they would not give me my cat until the bill was paid in full. So now I am a prisoner here. I was in shock she said that!! I told her I felt powerless, I am by myself, vulnerable, scared and you are trying to shame me and shake me down for money and if I don’t pay I am going to lose a very dear companion. I have been to emergency vets before and have never experience this level of non-compassion and mafia style business practices.Thank God my earth angel called at that very moment and I were able to work a deal out with the clinic. I was told that I could be “released” once the bill was paid in full. The bill was paid and I was told I could pick up my cat in two hours. Well two hours turned into five hours and they charge you by the hour as well. When I picked up my cat the doctor brought her out to me and gave a general report of her condition. I said “So she had a bad choking incident bottom line. He nodded his head and said yep. This clinic has adequate medical care but their billing practices are that of a Soprano’s episode.Fur baby owners beware.
Good experience. Our cat was in an emergency situation, though not in danger of immediate death. Taking him in to the clinic likely saved us from the much more dire (and expensive) scenario that would have happened if wed waited until morning. They took him back right away for diagnosis. We were presented with various testing and treatment options, but there was no pressure to spend a ton of money. In fact, they said several times that my regular vet could probably do the same things for less money in the morning as follow-up. In the end, they resolved the immediate problem, stabilized the cat, gave him pain meds and explained what I should watch for through the rest of the night. The price was reasonable and our cat was much better by morning. He still needed to see our vet, but the clinic staff was able to prevent his condition from getting worse. We spent about $200 for exam, lab work, fluids, pain killers and treatment for his blockage.
Office Manager (Denise?) was so helpful over the phone - she could tell I was upset and gently walked me through the process, and reminded me to drive safe on my way there. She was equally reassuring and kind upon arrival. Renee, the nurse, came in to check on us, brought me a stack of magazines, a glass of cold water, a bowl of water for my dog, and you could tell she really cared for both the patient and the owner. Took the time to answer all my questions, even those I asked twice:) They treated my sweet gentle giant with tenderness. My dog had been bitten by a snake and was in bad shape (so was I by then!), and instead of taking advantage of my vulnerability, Vet gave me 3 different treatment options, instead of pushing the most expensive one on me. I would have paid whatever they had asked, and instead, they took the time to go over the pros and cons of each, and when I chose to treat conservatively instead of aggressively, they supported my choice and were very thorough in discharge instructions and med administration. Solid professionals as well as good people.
READ ALL THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU GO BANKRUPT AT THIS PLACE. They have the bedside manner of a mortuary, clearly expecting the anger associated with them constantly leveraging your wanting your pet to be helped with their outrageous billing and extraordinarily arrogant attitude. Was referred to them by my vet just in case things took a turn for the worse overnight. Dog was on way back to recovery at this time. Their initial exam did everythinig but say every previous vet, including the referring one, was completely incompetent, missed this, missed that....my dog needs this and that. Chances are, I could have brought him home and with one sleepness night he would have continued to recover. Left a $290 deposit, asking they call if they were going to run the bill up from there (the vet sent fluids with me, but of course they werent good enough - meaning THEY couldnt charge me for them). Show up the next morning....another $300,. What happened to the call? the doctor spoke with you. Sure, she threw out 30 seconds of medical terms, no association with the fact that she was going to more than double the bill.DONT EVER USE THIS PLACE. THEIR ATTITUDE IS FOUL, THEY LOOK FOR WAYS TO ADD TO YOUR BILL, AND REALLY, THEY ARENT ALL THAT GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO EITHER.
Emergency Hospital South provides the worst customer service of any business Ive ever experienced .Despite poor treatment in the past, when our Australian Shepherd woke in extreme distress, we felt we had no choice but to seek emergency care here, since we thought it was the only option (some good news below.)My wife called at 5:45 am, and was told to come on in. She drove through the pouring rain, only to have the nurse say: I cannot treat him, because we close at 7 am.But its only 6 am, my wife protested, and you told me fifteen minutes ago to bring him in. Hes in a lot of pain, can you at least take a quick look.Yes, but we close at 6 am, the nurse kept repeating.Lazy? Incompetent? No compassion for animals? I have no idea. But Id rather have our pet treated by Postal workers or the TSA than Emergency Hospital South.Luckily, we found Austin Vet Care at Central Park, a far better run alternative.
We had to bring our 14 year old lab in yesterday evening to have her put down. She was unable to walk, and the vet techs came to the car and carried her in on a stretcher. We did not have to wait at all, the entire staff was very nice, as well as professional. This was the first time I have ever had to make the call to put a dog down, and I was in absolute tears. Dr. Reagan Wilson was very sweet, sat on the floor with me, my husband, and my dog, and explained everything, and was incredibly sympathetic and caring. We normally go to a vet in Dripping Springs, but I am considering a move, after how wonderful everyone was with our Laney.
I came to this location with a 1yr puppy choking and was told that it wasnt an emergency and they couldnt help me for another 2 hours mean while I already been waiting an 1hour an 45 minute for them to look her over I dont recommend this place the staff that answer the phone are rude and have no intress in helping anyone.
My Dobie, got a chest laceration on a Sunday afternoon that absolutely required stitches. I was dreading the thought of driving in to be seen, but was VERY pleasantly surprised at how things went. We were seen within 20 minutes of arriving and done with his surgery within an hour and a half. The staff was courteous, caring and professional. Additionally the associated costs were more than reasonable, and actually less than their initial estimate that I had already agreed to. His wound has also healed very nicely, considering it was a funky laceration. So, overall Im very pleased with my experience and wouldnt hesitate to use them again or recommend their services to a friend.
I just called to ask a vet after hours about a concern I have with my dog and Mel, who answered the phone, was so absolutely rude and yelled at me over the phone for asking a question. By far the worst customer service ever and the girl should be fired. End of story.
We brought our dog in after she ate poisonous china berries (which can be fatal for dogs).. Dr. Richardson was quick to get her taken care of and monitored her over night. She went home the next day and is back to her old self. So grateful for their excellent care in saving her life.
My Golden Retriever had congestive heart failure on New Years day. The staff was amazing and cared for him with the utmost respect for me and a dog that probably wouldnt make it. The vet even said it was a miracle he survived. 6 months later he did have total organ failure. I returned here to have him put to sleep. They were empathetic, compassionate and didnt rush me at all before, during or after the procedure.
Incompetent doctors and ruthless management. The on-staff doctor was unable to catheterize my cat because of lack of both knowledge and proper equipment. Their recommendation to me was a radical surgery to the tune of $3,000 instead of them trying to re-catheterize. There is no wiggle room at this horrible emergency animal hospital with their hours, availability of staff, and billing. The ONLY reason for my cat being here is that city of Austin veterinarian practices do not provide overnight care and they require that owners transport sick and scared animals to a hospital at night and back to the Vet in the morning. EVERY DAY. How is this good for the animal? Austin is supposed to be a pet-friendly city, but this common practice of back-n-forth is a detriment to the health of our companions. Please help. Challenge your local vets!! Just because its always been done this way doesnt mean that it must continue. Stand up and fight for your pets life and healthcare.
Twice now I have been here with a cat after hours and received an invoice of over $1000 to keep them alive until 7am when I had to take the cat to my regular vet.I agree with the other review about this being a used car dealership scam when it comes to their pricing and procedures. I wasnt offered a lower price for the first cat which was only 2 years old but they were more than willing to let my 8 year old hold her cat while they put her to sleep because mommy didnt have $1200 to keep Jasmine alive for a few hours.I was determined to not let that happen again so this time I played the money game. I was even required to sign a piece of paper on whether or not I wanted CPR *which could cost another $600+. I found this added undue stress to an already stressful time.Another important fact is that they leave your pet sitting there until you sign their invoice. This, of course, takes a while since you are playing the pricing game.I am very disappointed at the way they take advantage of you because it is after hours. I now have my vets home phone number for the next emergency. I suggest you do the same.

2020-10-02If you’re pet has an emergency, don’t come here if there’s more than two cars in the parking lot. We waited four hours. They kept taking people that were allegedly critical. We still did not get our pet in.

2022-06-26I want to add that the long wait times have to do w/ priority so ppl complaining about that have to understand it is similar to a human ER where you will be seen just takes time so I didnt have an issue there. When I called about my pets allergic reaction b/c my regular clinic was closed, the person on the phones tone pretty apathic. The vet who explained that my dog wasnt receiving enough benadryl to deal w/ the hives was extremely kind. So for the most part, my dog got what he needed and felt better afterwards.

2022-04-28*CorrectionPET SPECIALIST OF AUSTIN!I felt there was no empathy sympathy for my fur baby or his human family. When we first arrived at Pet Specialist of Austin, the sliding glass doors were locked. It took a staff that arrived after we had been standing for ten minutes to let us in. Clearly overstand that there were two females working at the front desk, just starring at us as we rung the bell for and emergency. However, they would not grant us entry. I feel they purposely killed my fur baby. There were too many human hands in my fur babies end of life transition and each person had something different to say. I felt like my baby life could have been saved. I felt like they had little to no regards in actually saving his life, especially Dr. James and the second tech. Farewell Juicy James Taylor my fur baby you will always be loved & never forgotten~

2022-04-29GIVE SIERRA A RAISEI called in tonight teary eyed worried about my lil man. he’s a 10 month old frenchie living with a 1 year old unneutered male dog and a 5 year old male neutered dog. After Google searching for over 5 hours what could be wrong with my lil man I finally decided to call. Assuming the worst, obviously (thanks Google) I told sierra lil man’s symptoms and how he’s been acting and she helped educate me that he could be dealing with hormone changes and getting use to the fact that i’ve started working from home. She informed me of the changes and age range male dogs start to go through this and that it’s totally normal and also informed me about symptoms to look out for if it was anything serious. EXTREMELY grateful for Sierra and her education because after Google searching for hours I was convinced something was going on internally and my lil man was at risk. GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE. I was about to start crying to laughing with her about male dog puberty. I feel like I have a teenager with all these hormone/territorial changes my lil man has started expressing but i’m 1,000 times grateful it’s just that and nothing more and Miss Sierra was able to calm me down and educate me.

2021-12-29We took our cat to two different vets before taking him here. I am a native Austinite so I definitely knew of this place but the previous two vets didn’t seem like it was a huge deal that our cat hadn’t eaten/drank for days. He was lying on his death bed in our closet and I made the call to bring him here. They did an assessment and said they needed to keep him overnight. They proceeded to keep him there on a feeding tube for 3 days right before Christmas. They kept us updated the whole time and made sure he was in good hands. We didn’t know if he was going to live or die but they saved his life. So thankful we brought him to this ER vet and got him the care he needed! Thanks so much for saving Mario’s life..
