This guy is the real deal! I hot-rodded my Dean with a floyd but needed my locking nut to be better mounted. Even thou Im not a luthier myself and had no clue what I was doing. He gave me no judgement at all. Was super patient with me, informative, and very fair on his price. I highly suggest this place and I will be coming back to him again. Thank you Mark for saving my guitar man

I brought Mark my Martin HD-28V acoustic guitar for a set-up. The guitar is in mint condition but I asked Mark to raise the action a hair. Mark recommended $500 worth of work. Because of the online reviews, I agreed to have this work done. When I got my guitar back, I instantly noticed a buzz when playing certain chords. I immediately took it back to Mark. After 15 minutes of work, Mark claimed the buzzing had been resolved; it had not. Again, I brought the guitar back to Mark. After a brief examination, Mark claimed there was nothing he could do to fix the buzz he had created. This buzzing never existed before I brought my guitar to Mark; I only wanted a simple set-up. I should have never brought my guitar to Mark in the first place. After getting my $500, Mark rushed me out the door with an unplayable guitar. I would not recommend anyone taking their guitar to Mark Erlewine.

Ive had a few guitars that have been repaired, set up, and revitalized by Mark. His work is impeccable and second to none. Hes honest, fair, and a true master craftsman. If you want the best work for the best price, Mark is your guy. He showed me some of his repairs on vintage acoustic guitars, and its absolute artistry. To be honest, his prices are very good for what he does. In my opinion, hes the best in Texas, and probably the best anywhere.

Mark has a reputation and pedigree of the highest order. So lets get this out of the way: he is pricey but his work is top notch. I dropped $1000 getting 2 electrics and an acoustic set up but I want to know that my instruments are in the hands of the best. They play great and any little problems, concerns or tweaks I had after the set up, he told me to drop back by and took care of them immediately. Hes very communicative via email and just a great guy as well, which is also something important to me!

I sent my beloved 57 Gibson ES-125 to install two missing inlay dots, and Marks work reached all expectations. If I dont tell you about the work you will never guess... It truly matches the material, color and craftsmanship of the old Gibsons. I also had the opportunity to try one of the acoustic dreadnoughts Mr. Erlewine built, and it impressed me. It sounded and played as good as the best Martins, Gibsons, Collings and Bottom Frog guitars I have tried before. I highly recommend his work to anyone, and the best players in the world have done it already.

I asked Mark to put a shim between the saddle and the bridge of my acoustic. He ended up putting a small piece of metal that cause a section to the bridge to be gauged out. I wasnt very happy about it....Edit: Mark called me to talk about it. He said this was something commonly done to correct the problem I was having with my saddle, and he offered to re-slot my bridge and make a custom saddle. Mark knows what hes doing, and I think he would do an excellent job (though Im currently having the same thing done at another shop). His work on setting up my guitar was outstanding, so Im raising the number of stars on my review.

Need your axes worked on? Look no further than this shop! Youre working with one of the greatest Craftsmen out there. The name alone speaks volumes about the work, and when you see the guitars hes crafted from scratch, youll know youre in the right place.

I dont write many reviews, but I totally LOVE my Erlewine Lazer II !!! The action and feel, the balance, and the SOUND of it. Its a great guitar even if it werent great for travel too.I travel a LOT. I simply carry the Erlewine Lazer II in its case (like a briefcase) in addition to my carry-on bag. No one has ever even asked me to check it or try to make it count as a second carry-on. Its very satisfying, especially on those flights where I see the airline folks requiring the regular-size guitars to be gate-checked.In the last two months, Ive played it (through headphones) in hotel rooms in Chicago, Seattle, Baku (Azerbaijan), the Istanbul Airport, Egypt, Aberdeen, and even in my Business Class seat on long flights. It also sounds great though my amp (at home or on gigs).I completely agree with the other positive reviews on how Mark Erlewine is a person to do business with. He made my initial purchase easy, and was just as good on the few follow-up questions I had.

I trust Erlewine Guitars with my custom guitars. I have had fretwork and setups done there, and a peculiar pickup issue fixed. The work was completed carefully and correctly, and the guitars have benefitted from the work.

It was just luck that I stumbled upon this genius. I guess Google helped too. I brought Mark a Telecaster with a solid rosewood neck that I loved and a Variax JTV-69 with a lousy neck but awesome electronics. I asked Mark to make a copy of the Telecaster neck for the Variax. He did just that, a carbon copy, all the way down to the frets and the finish. Marks neck is just a little better looking than Fenders. I am amazed.
