Abilenes first Mexican Restaurant that is still owned and operated by the Herrera family since 1936. Great food and excellent service. The Tuesday special is an AYCE that gives you a great variety. They do serve alcoholic drinks as well. The chips and hot sauce were wonderful as well. Bear in mind that this is not Tex-Mex, but rather true Mexican family cooking.
My husband said we should eat here today. He said hes always wanted to try their food. Well Kudos to the staff and cook. I have been to several Mexican Resturaunts in Abilene. This little hidden Jewel impressed me. Out of all the places I have been this has the best homemade salsa in Abilene. I have always looked for the down home Mexican salsa in every Mexican Resturaunt I have visited in Abilene. They hit the nail on the head with theirs. Reminded me of my BFFs Salsa from back home when I was younger and we had cook outs. The Burrito plate was very good and rice was fluffy not dry and beans were spot on. We will be making this a regular spot to eat. Thank You for the great service . I am also picky about my sweet tea and there are now two places in this surrounding area I will order the tea.
One of the downfalls of living in Abilene is that there is not a good selection of Mexican food. But after having dinner tonight we just found our favorite place! My husband had beef and cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. He is picky when it comes to Mexican food and he loved his meal. I had the taco salad and it was the best I have ever had. The food was delicious! The wait staff was attentive friendly and fast! The prices were great especially for the quality of food! We will definitely be back!
The food was fresh, delicious, the portions were large and filling. The flour tortillas were small, thin, kinda tuff, and the tortilla chips were thin, broke easily when you dipped them in the salsa and a bit stale, like they came out of bag and not fried up in the restaurant, and the salsa was not very good,it lacked onion, garlic, cilantro, lemon, lime, beer,at least some spicy serranos or jalapenos,it half way to much tomatoes ... Im thinking that maybe if we wouldve come earlier in the day the tortilla chips, flour tortillas, and the salsa might be fresher and better tasting.
I have been eating here since I was a kid, it has always been at the top of my list for Mexican food in Abilene. Today I had lunch here and it has really gone downhill. Service was alright but the food was not good at all. It was like they just threw it together for the first time, not to mention the chips and tortillas were kind of stale. Im not going to be returning anytime soon..
It was great and the owner mark and the waiters were awesome. My mom fell in the parking lot and the waiters did their best to help and so did Mark the owner and there just so happened to be a nurse there which was awesome. Thanks for the great food and all yalls help with my mom and no broken bones. Mary and Teresa
Farolito’s is ancient, old-line Abilene Tex-Mex. The physical structure has seen better days - much better days - but I give it 4*s because I appreciate good Tex-Mex at an excellent price. I come to Farolito’s monthly because it has a room big enough for an organization I belong to. It’s great for a quick lunch and the staff is friendly.
We have been to dinner here several times, and always enjoy our food. We have had their tamale plate, chicken fajitas, and their Mexican dinner. The complimentary chips & salsa are some of the best in town if you enjoy spice! The location is difficult to get to but once you follow the GPS for your first visit youll never forget.
Farolitos is pretty good. We really enjoyed the iced tea and lunch specials. The enchilada sauce is definitely homemade. The portions are generous and the salsa is fresh. The tortilla chips tasted like old grease. Maybe it was time for an oil change?Otherwise, it was delicious. We will return.
Although the restaurant was packed the food was so-so. Too much hype & was sorely let down. Bathrooms were dirty. The young man that took our order was extremely nice & helpful. This place is off the highway 2-3 miles & I was expecting something exceptional but instead got average type chain restaurant food.

The best Mexican food in Abilene. not to mention great service and an atmosphere thats unique unto its own. The Herrera Family started this restaurant many years ago and its now one of Abilenes hidden gems and a local landmark. Its the oldest continuously ran family owned eatery in town. Do yourself a favor and go see Mark and his crew if your ever in this neck of the woods. You will be glad you did
The food is great we had combo fajitas for two the meat was very tinder and had a great taste .i felt like for the money there could have been just a little bit more. Retried beans was no more than maybe two small spoonfuls the meat was very sparingly proportioned. I would be back just need aliitle more for the money
Nice place to eat. Food was outstanding and The menu had a lot of variety. I had great service at 1pm but I was the only patron. I only saw one waitress, so if more people came in she would be stretched to accomodate. The price was average, not a value, but not overpriced.
Im a creature of habit and my measuring stick for a good Mexican restaurant is cheese enchiladas or a platter that offers them. They passed with flying colors and then some. They dont try to reinvent the wheel, they just serve the classics well. My friend was quite pleased with the combo platter she ordered as well.
I paid $25.30 for a Mexican plate, ice tea, two tacos and a side of flour tortillas. Overpriced! For the food quality. I paid a similar price for a steak dinner at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Will not be returning. There are other restaurants in Abilene with same quality at a lower price.
Building is old and dirty. Food was not good at all. Guacamole was green, thats about the only thing about it that resembled guacamole. Waitress would bring little bowls of chips when we needed a refil which was constant. We ordered cheese dip....dont. mushy, cold, tasted like cheese gravy.
My favorite spot in Abilene for Mexican food. Im an expert. Trust me you wont find better. Its very affordable. Been in same family for over 60 years. Recipes have been passed along from generation to generation. Also be sure and grab a home made praline on your way out, they are amazing. Locals love Farolitos
They werent busy but had to wait for them to come back & take order. Food was o.k. but the staff seemed to prefer spending time with regulars. We went up to the register after waiting awhile to get our ticket. Still had to wait for her to print the ticket so we could pay.

2022-03-04Best Mexican food in Abilene! Hands down! 86 years family owned and operated. Bottle beer and house margaritas too.

2022-07-20Nice hole in the wall kinda place. Awesome staff and service - hands down! Seems to be popular with a crowd, but a small dining area so come early. Clean, but very outdated. This place needs a makeover. The margarita was great, the chips were fresh, and the queso was okay, but everything was terribly over-salted. The cook is heavy-handed with the salt, so if thats your thing youll like it. Its not hard to find, but its not easy to get to either.

2022-06-05Best steak fajitas in town. The service is excellent and all the servers are very friendly and personable. Ice tea is excellent. The only downside is the atmosphere has much to be desired, then again it has been there since the 1940s. Food is worth it.

2022-03-19Myself, my dad and older brother all agree that this is by far the ONLY Mexican restaurant worth going to in all of Abilene, TX. Its the BEST MEXICAN food weve ever had. The tamales were excellent. My dad trucked across country for 30+ years and it is the best he has ever had.

2022-04-20The food has FLAVOR. I am so tired of Mexican restaurants around here not putting any flavor in their beef. Service was quick and friendly. Seat yourself. Only problem was when the server turned the AC up, and we were sat directly in front of the blowing air and it got really cold really fast and the air was literally blowing in our faces/hair was getting blown around, and it lasted the whole visit, but next time we will know just to not sit there lol. We will be back !

2022-03-28Had never been here. Been around this town for 45 years. I dont know how old the restaurant is. Ive seen it but never stopped, what a shame. This is a great place for some authentic Mexican food. The wait wasnt too bad but it was definitely busy at lunch. Get there early, you wont regret it.

2021-11-16Good food and great service with fair prices and huge portions. We got nachos to share and still had some left over! Only complaint is there are some weapons hung on the wall with nails and are most certainly a safety risk. Its great to have history displayed and cool things to informed guests with but there is no excuse for hazardous situations.
