Fitness Connection in other cities:
Fitness Connection is by far the best! Ive been to in the area. No pressure for personal training or nutrition assessments like Golds Gym.Most of the features that Lifetime fitness encompasses at 1/4 the cost and no hidden fees. It beats the YMCAs senior monthly rate by $28. Clean, friendly and affordable. I really like private womens workout area. As well as the aerobic classes and dry sauna.
Ive been a member of several gyms in my lifetime and this has by far been my favorite. I am sad to leave but I have moved. This gym will actually be missed as silly as that sounds.Im not sure why they have such horrible reviews because I had a great experience. The staff is friendly, the place is always clean, and the womens area is the best touch.
I’m surprised by all the negative reviews, I’m assuming majority of them are related in regards since Covid closures and reopens, this gym is AWESOME! The first time I went I went to the 35 and Parmer location, huge gym, clean, and well kept, with tons of equipment! I did go at the busiest time (after 4pm between 7pm) my mistake, so there wasn’t much room in the free weights area, but still great selection of machines to use! I used to be a member at planet fitness, which I loved, but, now that I’m more experienced with weight training, I don’t feel they have enough equipment for the level I’m at now! But fitness connection has all of that and some! The lake creek location is hands down my favorite location! Such nice staff, clean locker room, and such great gym layout!
Fitness connection SCAMMED me this place has taken 600$ Outta our bank account I will never get back. I have asked them 3 times to cancel my membership and today would have been the 4th time if we had not just cancelled our whole credit card. They have refused to give personal training money back and said you have to cancel a month ahead. But seeing as to how they weren’t supposed to be charging my card the past 3 months I feel as I should have received my aunts money back. But nope actually they charged us again to cancel the card saying it takes 30 days to do. JUST A WARNING and I’m not the only person I know that even has account issues here. Not worth it if you ask me 🤷♂️
This will be the cheapest gym you can find but will also be the worse quality. People like to walk around with their bags all over the place and dont know how to rerack their weight or clean their machines. You never see any employees walking around to make sure everything is in good shape. It is cheap at least
I really love this place. Getting a membership here was the best decision Ive made this year. And only $10 per month!! Ill spend more than that on lunch and coffee today... and those things wont help me get stronger. :-) The gym is really new and clean inside. Their equipment is high quality and well maintained. They have a ton of free weights. Also their dry sauna is really hot and well maintained.
Great all-around gym. The machines are plentiful and well maintained and the service is great, especially for $10 a month. There is a womens only section that has a decent selection along with a cardio theater. The locker rooms have a lot of lockers and are kept extremely clean.Definitely try to start your membership during one of their deals to save some money!
Terrible communication from personal training following COVID closures and COVID-related membership freezes. I usually cant be bothered writing reviews (good or bad) but theyve done a shocking job keeping clients informed throughout COVID and its resulted in over a thousand dollars in charges I can only see as unfair. If COVID-related spotty communication were the only issue, I probably still wouldnt bother with a review. But I requested a PT membership cancellation months ago over the phone, was told it would be taken care of, then this week began receiving collection calls over unpaid PT charges. It turns out the rep had not cancelled the membership and the gym will not honor cancellation from that date because the original rep had not even entered a record of the request into their system. I certainly should have noticed the lack of cancelation confirmation email, but days are busy and I just didnt think about it. It feels out of character for me to be writing a review like this, but I feel the feedback is truly deeserved.
First time ever leaving a negative review. Terrible staff, called me and accused me of taking airpods and threatened to call the cops after I told them several times that I did not have it. I told them to check the cameras and see that I was there at the time it pinged at my location. No one ever followed up with updates or an apology. Also, they failed to cancel my membership multiple times. I asked the front desk to cancel and they told me I was all set, I later get billed and call in and they said they will take care of it. Months go by and Im still getting charged, they finally cancelled my account after I finally got a hold of the store manager. I was constantly told over the phone that it was my word against theirs. I never got reimbursement for those payments, and I was told I would get a follow up phone call and I didnt. All in all, just a terrible experience with this gym and if I could give the staff 0 stars I would.
Canceled my membership in August, whoever I talked to did not process or note my cancel so I was billed for 3 more months, Then when I called to cancel again they told me that they require 35 days notice and would have to bill be again! Bad customer service. Find another Gym, you get what you pay for.
Slightly cramped but clean for the most part. The hours arent great considering theyre barely open on the weekend which is when a decent amount of people have time to get a workout in. Otherwise pretty nice staff and lots of, but not amazing equipement. The price is only 10$ a month which is great. paying for what you get to keep it simple .
Most unethical gym I have ever worked with. Less than one star. I had to cancel twice and I sent a certified letter per their instructions in 2018. I went in in person to ask them how to cancel and the gentleman at the desk took my Gym card and said he canceled my membership. I was with 2 other people who witnessed the entire thing. I left and 6 months later noticed they were still billing me, so I called and spoke to more than 1 manager and the billing department. I sent the certified letter in Dec 2018. Today 14 months later I get a call from a collection agency and they are charging me 14 months of membership or they will report it to the credit agencies. So I was forced to pay AGAIN. this gym charged me for 2 years after I canceled the first time. UNETHICAL does not cover it.
I wrote a negative review more than 2 years ago about this gym, because of the management. After that everything change. The management got much better and more attentive. It is a good place to work out now and no one can beat the membership price per month. It is clean and the equipment maintenance is good enough. Im glad that it started open on Sundays as well. The only thing missing at this gym is a punching bag to make it 10/10 in my personal opinion since it has enough space to hang at least one.
Great equipment and building. The general manager is the reason for 2 stars instead of 5.We just moved here and wanted to join this gym because the the free daycare and great equipment. We came in for the free 5 day trial pass and had a great experience. Were moving to Fort Worth next month and will be out of town for the month up until then for a vacation before medical school. Because we werent willing to sign up now instead of in a month we were told that we would not be able to have the 5 day free trial pass.More than this was that the general manager we spoke with was rude and unwilling to take 30 seconds to listen. It seems as though the people that work for him are always be on their toes to not get in trouble. Our licenses are from out of state because we just moved here. The other workers were trying to make it work for us to have the 5 day pass via other proof of residence and the GM shut it down immediately. My suspicion is that it is because we would sign up at a different location and not his, making it so he doesnt have any benefit for us signing up.In summary I think this gym has a great business model, great equipment, and the environment is good. I would recommend a different location because of the manager at this one.
I got there as a guest to work out with my friend. I get there before my friend who has membership with them. One of the sellers came over and asked me some questions and I told them that I had membership before with them and I just would like to do one day pass and I specifically asked the guy do I have to pay for that and he said no just sign in the tablet. When my friend came they didn’t let me to do and they asked to pay.
I’m really not sure what the staff do here. They are either behind a desk, hiding in a cube, or “training” AKA chatting with someone. I signed up for the gym because of the 24/7 feature. The gyms in Texas have been open 6 months and there are very limited hours and closed on Sundays. There’s really no reason for this. The gym should always be cleaned daily anyways, so why the need to hardly open Saturday and be closed Sunday? Also, they really aren’t cleaning. I’ve gone into areas of the women’s section that will look identical as 24 hours prior (misplaced items, paper towels on the floor). There needs to be more space and options for Olympic style weightlifting. I can NEVER get a spot. The only benefit at this point is the low cost.
Fitness Connection (Lake Creek) is one of the newest health clubs here in town. This health facility may feel like a big box gym but it offers friendly competitive prices in the market. This gym has new equipment with a friendly staff environment that will help you on any inquires you may have about your account or on the club and there services! This fitness center is 24-7 with varying hours for the holidays, it also offers a kids club for the little ones to play while you get a good pump in! Some of the amenities include a sauna, basketball court, a cycling studio, and a small equipped weight room section targeted for women. So far, I have had no complaints on the facility as it is clean and the weight room equipment is well maintained!
Seems like a one way street...once registered there seems no way to cancel the membership. Every month we see the CC charged and every time we call to hear the same...Sorry. We will cancel and refund[Updated 9-21-21] 4th time that we called and were promised that the membership will be cancelled, the CC was charged AGAIN! Absolutely ridiculous service. Must be unlucky to get connected with very shameless customer service reps every time.
Poor communication, went in to start a membership, paid the starting amount, to this they never explained to me the differences of the memberships or anything. They sat me down and I enrolled myself through their computer. A month later, I get billed for another fee, to this I got to the gym asked tem what it is and its the annual fee. Which I was never informed of. Manager is supped to call me back so here we are 2 months later, no call and no reimbursement on anything. Paid over a hundred dollar for only one visit because I ended up not liking the hours due to the change since the Covid change.
Great gym! I didnt realize how many of my friends workout here before I actually signed up. The facility is HUGE. So many more options than Golds Gym (my previous gym). There is even a section for women with a cardio cinema. Its always clean. Actually every time I workout I see an employee cleaning the gym.The price is unbeatable for $10/mo. The hours are great and very convenient for different work schedules.Highly recommend this spot!
This is a great gym! Its always clean and the staff is upbeat and helpful. I love the womens area and cardio theater. The locker room and showers are always available and clean. The ONLY criticism I have is about their app and website! Good luck trying to figure out when and what classes they have. Im waiting for the return of Senior classes...but, I have been attending the other classes and am enjoying them.
Excellent facility with clean and modern equipment, a well-kept locker room, and courteous staff. This location has a large collection of racks, machines, and free weights that make it suitable for all levels. A great value with low membership fees, would highly recommend!
My wife and I joined last year and I didnt expect a lot from the gym at first. After some time, my wife and I enjoy coming to the gym as we see friendly faces and trainers who do a great job training my wife and my daughter. The gyms is not perfect, but if you are familiar with gyms and how they operate, this one is doing very, very well. I would recommend anyone looking for a good workout to join Fitness Connection. The only problem is it gets super busy from 4-9 Pm every week day. I wish there were a way for us to share racks or machines. I would also encourage the staff to check some key areas and make sure the weights are being re-racked. Members should be responsible for re-racking their own weights as well.
Im really happy I stumbled across this gym. The people are nice. Theres plenty of equipment. Its clean. It has childcare for BOTH of my kids (3 month old and 2 year old) included in the monthly fees. I finally have hope that I can get fit again. Lol. But anyways.. its a great gym. Havent had any issues with the employees being even remotely rude. And honestly? Who cares! Just sign in and workout. Quit being a pansy. The prices and amenities are worth it anyways.
These guys charged me after I requested to cancel my membership in July. They put it on a 90 day freeze which I did not request and now since I cancelled I am going to be charged also for another month. So Fitness Connection makes a mistake and I still pay 2 months of membership.Great Customer Service!!
Gym was good pre-covid. Cancellation was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I agreed to freeze my account for a few months to see how things progressed and was assured over and over that all I had to do was call 30 days in advance of the freeze ending and I wouldnt be charged again if I ended up wanting to cancel. Turns out that was a complete lie. Called in advance of 30 days and was forced to pay for another month because they have to remove the freeze before cancellation, resulting in an invoice from the month. Genius idea for them to make more money, complete trash idea for decent customer service. Decent gym but be prepared to deal with the worst money-grubbers when its time to cancel.
Great facilities but pushy sales people. I would give 5 stars if my first experience hadnt been so bad. I was told I had to sign up on the first day I came in or I would have to pay more. I came in a few weeks later and got the same deal so I know that sales rep was lying in an attempt to create urgency. If nobody says anything about this then they will most likely go on using outdated and manipulative sales tactics.Update: I had to cancel membership and found out it can only be done by mailing in a letter. No forms are available and you cannot cancel at the gym itself or over the phone. This is yet another outdated tactic to make cancellation that much more inconvenient. I’ve got to drop my rating because of this.Update 2: one month after cancelling my membership I was charged the annual fee of $42.22 this is easily the dirtiest and most deceitful company I have ever dealt with, I verified at the gym that my cancellation letter had been received and they told me I wouldn’t be billed again for anything including the annual fee. After I was charged I called the billing company and they were very rude and basically said the fine print states I am responsible for the annual fee even if I cancel before it is scheduled to be billed. I can’t say strongly enough how terrible the billing has been from start to finish.
Decent amenities for the price. Excellent free weight selection. Can be crowded at times. Cancellation policy is straight from the old days. You have to send a letter via certified mail to their Webster address and request a cancellation. Then theres no way of knowing if your membership is actually cancelled unless you call back and check with them. No proof of cancellation will be sent. They also require a 30 day notice just to make sure they get that last bit of money ey out of you for pulling out. I know most gyms are hard to leave but why design the process to frustrate people to not want to ever come back. Maybe its their business model to dissappointed people as they leave. I guess most gyms see user attrition after the first 3 mo the glow but come on, dont charge me 50 to leave. Let me cancel over the phone / web like a modern company should.
Great place to workout. They have plenty of equipment and the place has always been clean, even before covid. I was so happy the gym opened back up as soon as possible, especially during the summer when it is way too hot for me to exercise outside. The staff is extremely friendly and they have done a great job dealing with the ongoing pandemic.
If I could give NO stars at all I would. Can I do negative stars? I usually don’t even care enough to go out of my way and write reviews but this place is completely unprofessional.I’ve only been to this gym a couple of times. Which in both times I was completely disappointed and annoyed. The staff is extremely rude, and definitely lie all the time! They all give out very inconsistent information and it’s never the same. It’s good equipment but to me is NOT worth the hustle. I have had memberships at multiple gyms and can say that this is by far the WORST in Austin!!! .. save your money, time and energy. I can personally say that even planet fitness is better. I was excited to work out with friends but I am just going to take my membership back somewhere else. I rather pay more for a real quality service gym than pay 10$ and deal with very immature staff. For all being adults, I sure do feel like I am back in high school. Maybe that’s the crowd they should target.
I was a member for a year and a half and the quality of the gym is fine. Plenty of equipment and space. The problem is with it’s ridiculous cancellation policy, which they do not tell you since they market as no contract. Moved out of Austin, so I sent in a cancellation letter. The letter obviously arrived in two days since I’m not far away. After waiting two weeks and getting charged for the next month, I called to see what’s up. Their excuse: they have hundreds of cancellation letters to go through, so it takes up to a month. I wonder how much money they make from dragging out this process? I am documenting it on here so I can follow up. I also asked the rep to note my request so there is a record of me calling this month, so when they charge me next month it will be even more fraudulent. Fitness Connection: You aren’t a good gym if the only way to cancel is by letter, and it takes you a month to process that request if even!
I appreciate the staffs efforts in making the gym a safe place. It is a difficult job to sanitize everything. I dont see patrons doing their part to sanitize after they use equipment. The layout is good, I like the use of the gym for the various types of bikes. Few every use the gym anyway, at least when I exercise. I usually would go at 5:30 am, but adjusting my time to the new start time.Great staff!
I signed up back in January and ever since then I have been charged for a late fee. The 1st two months I thought it was my fault until I looked at my account and saw that I wasnt being charged for my membership. I went in recently and checked to see what the issue is with my account. One of the guys at the front desk (who was very helpful) explained to me the problem. Told me that someone typed my bank account number wrong in the system and that is why I kept getting told I had late. Gave me the customer service phone number and told me they should be able to fix it and waive my late fees. I called customer service and they told me that they would only be able to waive one of my on going late fees. I feel as if since someone at your facility made a mistake that I should get both of my current late fees waived. It wouldve been nice if someone at the gym had noticed the issue with my membership and contacted me. I really like working out here. Theres plenty of open machines when I go to work out and the staff are nice. I would give the place 5 stars if they would work out the issue with me.
We have been members for 1 month and have been very pleased with the gym. Even if a piece of equipment is OOO, there are plenty of other machines available. Staff is nice and maintains the gym well. We read the reviews prior to joining and asked the right questions on fees and understood everything we were signing. The monthly debit with the annual fee (they have 3 times the withdrawal this so pay attention to when you join), is nothing outrageous when combined with an already low monthly fee. They also have an area of the gym for women only which is nice with a great great locker room. Way better than Golds and doesnt smell.
I felt like I needed to write a review simply because of all the complain-y entitled folks that leave one-star reviews because someone didnt say hello. There is one particular girl that never responds when I say good morning, but does that ruin my entire experience? Does that ruin the gym as a whole? No. If she wants to be a sourpuss, let her be. Im not here for her, Im here for myself. Ive been coming here for about five months and I also have a personal trainer I meet with once a week and Ive yet to have a single complaint. Ive never had to wait for a machine as the gym is HUGE and there are plenty of machines. Its absolutely spotless; they do take pride in how clean they keep it. And for everyone whining about having to send a certified letter to cancel, Fitness Connection aint the only place that requires one! When I was a member of Orange Theory, I also had to send a certified letter to cancel it. Stop being such special little babies. This is a great gym, its spotless, and all kinds of people come in; its likely youre going to be working out next to an 80 year old man and woman, a 15 year old kid and a serious weight lifter. And ladies, if you dont yet feel comfortable enough to work out on the main floor, they have a room thats women-only. Fitness Connection, youre it for me!
Great amenities. But customer service 🤦🏻♂️The lady at the front desk said usually to sign up costs $100. But today and tomorrow it’s only 39. Of course I enrolled myself and my wife. After 2 days I see they have a promotion of $10 to sign up. Not $100. Now I want to cancel and get a refund. It’s not about money but I do feel I was fooled.
This company is awful! They have amazing equipment and that’s it. The kids club is always under staffed. Very few of the kids club staff acknowledge safety, especially with infants. The women’s theatre plays the same movies too often. Some times the sound doesn’t even work. Many times the screen has been stuck on a YouTube screen and not playing movies. We cancelled our membership and paid the following monthly fee even though we didn’t use the gym and they ended up charging us the annual fee the next month for the whole year we wouldn’t even be members. Are they serious? It’s not an annual fee for the previous year it’s for the following year and we should NOT have to pay that. Management is ridiculous and you have to call corporate most of the time because they can’t handle certain things on site. I called to complain about the charge and they are saying we have to pay it and no one can override it. Stay away from this disaster unless you have money to throw away.
Gym Goer Beware! TL;DR Fitness Connection sent me to collections and dropped my credit score even though I did everything correctly. This gym is great. Unfortunately, I had to cancel due to getting a new job and working more hours, I wasnt going to be able to hit the gym like I had been doing. I had been a happy paying customer for over a year.January 1st. I file online to cancel my membership. I get sent an email that my membership will be cancelled in 30 days. No where in this email or online did it say I needed a letter.February 1st. I have not stepped foot in this gym for 30 days. I get drafted for the monthly fee of the membership. No biggie, I knew Id have to pay for any fees within 30 days as the email said.March 1st. 60 days since Ive stepped foot in the gym. I get drafted another month. I call to fix the issue. Im told I need to send a letter. I was never told of a letter. Doesnt matter to them. I send the letter. Two weeks later I call to see the status of said letter because its 30 days AFTER they receive the letter that I get the membership cancelled. They said they never received a letter and to resend one. BOGUS! Whatever. I wanted to be done with it, so I sent a letter with updated priority postage so that I KNOW it got to them.April 1st. I am now drafted the monthly fee AND the yearly membership fee BUT I havent been to the gym in 90 days at this point. But its supposed to be almost over because they officially got my letter.May 1st. I get drafted again. Make a call. They say Im not in the system, so I shouldnt have been charged. They told me to put a stop on my bank for the recurring charge. So I did. I stopped getting charged.September. I get a call from a collections company telling me Fitness Connection is trying to collect my payments from the past year. Over $100 Im supposed to pay! My credit score dropped 30 points from this. I told the collections company every detail of what you just read. They asked for me to send them a copy of the email and it has since been worked out by that company. This is a scam of a gym and there are SO many better ones out there! This one is not worth the hassle if you ever want to quit or move or anything! Do not support this business until they change their practices!
I recommend DO NOT SING IN IN THIS GYM, policy are sucks. We are living in a free country and you are not allowed to take off your t shirt even when the gym is empty like was my case at 3:10 am. Some associates are nice but some of them are rude. The always have problems taking your monthly payment and after charge you with a late fee. You have better option in Austin choose wisely Fitness Connection is not an option.
Great gym, maintained and cleaned really well. The setup of the gym is really optimized for the diffthe tent types of gym goers and has plenty of machines that you don’t have to wait on someone else to finish so that you can use it. For me, cancelling was really simple - just send in the mailer that they give you. It was a bit annoying that they recommend certified mail, but in my experience that’s just insurance for both parties. I called to confirm that it was cancelled and everything went through smoothly. The only reason I cancelled is because I was moving to a state that didn’t have a fitness connection.
Awesome! Love it here. Best gym by far or I’d be posting there, 10$ a month, no contract, literally every piece of equipment imaginable, bumper plates to drop weights, super clean; 24 hours 2 actual court basketball courts, free kids club that has a basketball court and private movie theatre with comfy movie theatre seats, absolutely amazing! Canceling is easy, takes a minute literally to cancel. Not sure how can mess that up as you can’t go to next page without the previous being Correct and you get a confirmation sent to your personal email right away
Fitness Connection is a great value! They have everything you need and more for a very reasonable price. Its clean, close and convenient. I love that they are open early and pre-Covid they were 24hr. They also have a separate womens area although Ive never had an issue with sexism on the main floor. I enjoy having the option and have started using it since COVID19 for even more separation. Everyone Ive met has been friendly and kind. There is a sauna in the locker room but its closed right now due to COVID19. They have a mask and glove policy in place as well as closing off every other machine for social distancing. I go early in the morning so it hasnt been that crowded. I cant speak to the afternoon. I joined about a year ago and have found it a great club for the money. I go 5 days a week, totally worth it!
This is my happy place. Everything is clean and smells good. I tend to work out first thing in the morning, and I rarely have to wait for equipment. There are plenty of lockers and private changing rooms, and it seems like the toilets are literally always being cleaned. My favorite thing about the gym is the Kids Club though - the staff knows every child by name and makes them feel welcome and excited to be there. My daughter feels as comfortable with them as she does with her own family, and I love knowing that theres a reliable, safe place to bring my kid every day so I can get some valuable alone time and work toward my goals. Im like a Fitness Connection evangelist - I cant quit spreading the good news of a clean gym with child care for $10 a month 😉
Was an okay place to workout for the price. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. If you’re a broke college kid or just need somewhere to get fit, then it’s an okay place to get your workout in. The manager makes you feel incompetent. The gym is kinda clean, but the weights and plates are just a disaster. Sometimes you have to go find they weight you need. If you want to get a fantastic workout or more than just weights and treadmills I highly recommend you look elsewhere. Not naming names but the gym down the lot from them is phenomenal, friendly, and amazing.
Do not join Fitness Connection! Their COVID-19 policy on membership suspensions is not clear. I kept getting charged monthly because I have to call back every 60 days. However, their phone lines are so busy with 1+ hour waits. It took me 3 weeks to reach them and it was too late to suspend payment. THEY GAVE ME NO FLEXIBILITY!I canceled as an unsatisfied customer and they still insisted on a 30 day notice, so another charge! In the meantime, I dont feel comfortable visiting the gym due to COVID=19.
I decided to join about a month ago after avoiding it due to bad reviews online. The cancellation process immediately turned me off, but after doing a 5 day free trial I decided to pull the trigger for two reasons.1. This gym is huge, clean, and offers just about every amenity I could need in a gym from childcare, to machines, to classes, and dry sauna.2. By having to do an archaic cancellation process, I will be less likely to give up and quit. They were also very upfront about the cancellation process when I asked, so I didnt see it as an attempt to try to hide anything. The majority of the staff I have met are super nice, and a few of them already know me by name.Yes, during your trial, the salesmen do come off particularly pushy, but that is part of their job requirement. They are there to get people to sign up!The gym does feel a bit cold when you first walk in, but by the time my workout starts, I dont even notice it anymore. Also, the movies they show in the womens cardio room are on repeat (I have seen Fast Five at least 4 times in one week, even going at different times of the day) and the TVs constantly have news stations on. That is me just knit picking stuff though. If you are not joining due to the cancellation process like I was, give it a shot. If that is your reasoning then you arent ready to join a gym and change your life. Its just another excuse. Because as far as what a gym has to offer, this one is at the top.
Awesome place for workouts! Lots of equipment with many TVs in the floor. Great locker room and a wonderful sauna. Has a children play area during the day for kids to stay, while having a workout. Overall a nice gym with great staff. $10 monthly plan is a steal if you are regular to gym! Can’t beat the price.
Everyone has been super great. Its clean, friendly and the price is reasonable. Personal trainers are great too. If youre nervous about going to a gym, go here. Theres tons of machines, a womens area, and amazing classes.Update: Sauna was opened recently. : )Update: They are offering more frequent classes and new ones.It is still an awesome gym.
I have been working out at Fitness Connection for 8 months now. I find it funny how people are writing terrible reviews because of hidden fees in the contract. Like any other gym there is an annual based fee. If you actually read before you sign up you will see that, clearly. The workout classes offered, equipment and hours are well worth $10.83 a month. Read before you sign and if you have a question about the contract, just ask!
So first off its a nice gym. Plenty of weights, and all types of exercise machines. They have lockers, but you need to bring your own pad lock. Now the biggest thing is that they advertise and tell you cancel at anytime. This is not the case however, the only way you can cancel(and stop being charged) is to mail in a letter to the corporate office. The best part is that the letter does not cancel your account, its a 30 day notice. So like me I cancel on the 15th and that was my 30 day notice. Now I still pay on the 1st for a full month, and cant use the gym. Just a heads up, nice gym tho...
I’m really happy this facility opened up as soon as our Awesome Governor gave the green light. While the media is trying their best to keep us running scared, Fitness Connection is doing their part to keep us safe; as are the attending members not only exercising their body but their common sense. I’m happy to call Fitness Connection my gym!Did I mention the staff is awesome? Well, they are!!
I mailed a letter to this location in March canceling my wifes month to month membership. The letter was returned in September - delivery refused. This place stopped accepting mail in March - probably to avoid cancellations by mail. They have been charging my account since that time. I called today, and they agreed to cancel her membership - but only after they extract another month payment. Beware....
The gym itself is fine but canceling my membership here was an absolute nightmare. The WORST customer service I have ever received. I was lied to and then the manager was coincidentally at lunch every time I asked to speak to them. The cancellation process is super outdated and completely uncalled for. Stay away from this gym! The price may be tempting but they’ll get you in the end.
Gym is huge! The customer service from SOME of the front staff is very unprofessional. I’m not 100% but I think her name is Emilie, she is rude, unprofessional. Some of the trainers look around too much when they should be focused on their clients. The cleaning staff is great and they do a good job at keeping the bathrooms and gym clean. This is a personal opinion but I think the staff that gives tours to potential members should dress more professional. When I got a tour a few months ago the guy was very clean cut. Overall not a bad gym I just think they need to teach some of the fronts desk staff proper customer service skills and remind them that the members come first not their text messages...
Terrible customer service, a run around to cancel, a nightmare to park here.CAVEAT EMPTOR!! Do not sign up to this place, save your money and go to Golds or PF. This place is a joke. I wasted $ trying to cancel within their 3 day return period and was given all kinds of BS. When I finally got a person (based in india) they told me I was too late. When I explained what happened with my cancelation, they had 0 empathy and were extremely dismissive. Seriously, dont waste your money on this gym!!!
A cheap gym with plenty of equipment and clean bathrooms and showers. Comes with all the drawbacks of a cheap gym - difficult to cancel, staff encouraging you to pay money for more things. But classes are free and its hard to beat $14.17 a month ($10 + annual fee). The staff is friendly and I havent had trouble with any other gym-goers.
Great facilities, decent classes, but horrible management. I was on the auto draft payment system, but my card was stolen twice this year, they charge extra $20 each time for late fee and return fee! This is after I told them that my card was cancelled please use this new card. They still charge me the extra. This is not my mistake, not something I can control over of, why am I being punished! Its not like I sit on the problems for months, I gave them the updated card number the next day, and they claim the charge already went out, theres nothing they can do, they have to charge the late fee! How can they treat customers like a machine! I called so many time wishing to speak with supervisor, but the supervisor was never available. Im sending in my 30 day notice. Its not like theres not another gym out there!
The gym was nice and very clean as its brand new. I was given a 7 day pass to try out the gym. First day was a good experience. I decided to try it out another day, well that was a huge mistake overall. The gym was fine but the manager was outright rude, said after 2 days I should either sign up or thats it. How does a gym provide a 7 days pass but demand either sign up or be done. He was pushy, condescending and sadly this is not the only gym in town. Who offer passes but wont let the customer fully get the experience as there are classes that I didnt try. Why even offer any passes as you cant get in over experience in 2 damn days.
I was happy with my class at this gym. The problems came when I decided it was time to cancel due to the pandemic. They made it incredibly difficult. Theres not an option to cancel online or any way to contact them online. No one answers if you choose the option on the phone to cancel. In the entire process, I waited twice on hold for over 45 minutes without reaching a person and once for over an hour. No one ever answered. I eventually reached the manager. He cut me off as I explained my experience, never once apologized for the inconvenience and sounded annoyed at having to help.I have never gone out of my way to post a negative review but theres a first for everything. Please think twice before giving this place your money.
Ive been a member here for about 2 years- it started out great and I loved it (my reason for 3 stars)! $10 a month and they offer a variety of classes, women only area, sauna, showers, locker rooms, etc.. But in the past couple of months things have changed-The gym stays packed constantly to the point of over crowding. Ive had to either go early in the morning between 4am & 6 am or late at night between 10pm & 12pm to miss the crowd, which is pretty irritating. There is always a STRONG smell of body odor or wet towel.🤢🤮The team members at the front desk are friendly for the most part.Management seems unprofessional- Ive walked out of the building on several occasions and heard them talking down/making fun of gym members. 😒Im in the process of trying to cancel my membership and its basically impossible! You have to mail the company a letter of cancellation- hoping they get back to you before the next billing cycle. Its a little ridiculous.
DO NOT GO HERE. There is problems with billing and they dont make it clear in signing up that you have to mail in a letter to cancel a membership. Managers and front desk people have been rude on the phone and in person. Ive been a member since before the gym opened and I wish I went somewhere else.Even when I canceled my membership they charged me $35 for the annual fee and are making me pay another month membership. I moved to California last month. They screw over customers, dont go here. $10 a month isnt worth it, Id rather pay $50 at 24 Hour and have a pool and spa and nice people.
I’m ONLY giving one star because of the classes & the facilities. Other than that, this gym is really a SCAM! they make it so easy for you to sign up but when it’s time to cancel because of whatever reason they make you jump through hoops & it’s really just a super complicated process they put you through. They don’t care about anything but taking your money, that’s what it seems like. Although I enjoyed my time at this gym I regret EVER signing up for the membership. Don’t do it, save yourself.
If I could give NO stars, I would. First off, if you want to cancel your membership, you have to send a letter by certified letter to their corporate office and give a 30-day notice. You cannot do anything at the gym except for them to take your money.... DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT sign up for their personal training. I made the mistake of signing up after I was told that even though it was a 12 month contract I would be able to give a 30 day notice and cancel and this is not the case. When you sign up for personal training session you have 72 hrs to cancel after you initial payment but after that all bets are off. When you cancel within that contract you are responsible for 50% of the remaining sessions. So for example, if you sign up for a 12 month contract which is $160/ month for 4 sessions and you cancel three months into it, you would be responsible for the 50% of the remaining session so let’s do the math.... 160*9=1440%2=720 is what you would have to pay in order to cancel. I was flat out told that it was a 30 day notice in order for them to get me to sign up and after all of a sudden everyone has amnesia. I even talked to the district manager who was no help at all so don’t bother. THEY WILL NOT GET ANOTHER DIME OF MY MONEY. They will try to gain your trust and lie to your face.... BEWARE!
I think the gym is great actually. For $10 a month, its actually incredible. They are also being super safe during covid. They require gloves and mask and have people walking around cleaning all day. The ONLY reason Im giving it 3 stars is because the wifi has been out for just about 2 weeks now. It cant be that hard to call the cable/internet company, have them come, and fix it. Actually, since my professional career after college (so for the past 13 years), anytime internet has been out for a company I worked for, it was fixed that day or the next. If there is a problem, it needs to be fixed either by FC corporation or by the internet provider. Its really not that difficult. If they need help making a call, Ill be happy to do it for them. Otherwise great gym.
Wanted to check out the gym before i signed up as anyone else would, but before i went i wanted to see if there was a free day pass they offered and luckily enough there was. If you just go to their website you can sign up for a free 5 day day-pass! I go into the facility and Im blown away how awesome this place is, after the tour though is when i knew i didnt want to be here. The slick haired manager with a girlish piercing on his ear basically said he wasnt going to honer my 5 days, that i could go in for today and it looked like he had trouble just letting that happen. I honestly did want to sign up because it looks like an awesome gym but if someone doesnt honor something from the company i dont feel like i can trust the personnel that are going to be taking my money.
This is the hardest gym membership to get out of. They are always charging your card and not letting you know of any fees coming up. To give them your card number is like giving them access to spend on your card. I moved out of the area and tried to cancel my membership. You have to write a letter (oh be sure to send it certified according to customer support) and then hopefully you will get cancelled. Still waiting on that. Customer support is not customer friendly.
I was just told I have to write a HAND WRITTEN letter to cancel my membership (its 2018! Wgo does that!? We have internet AND phones...). This was not told to me when I signed up. I specifically told them that I did not want to be locked into a contract, and they told me no problem, you can do our month-to-month plan and cancel anytime. I said ok, and asked them if there was ANYTHING else I needed to know about and they said nope. Cancel anytime! Now I have to write a letter to cancel my membership and it is a 30 day notification, which pushes me into the month they charge for their annual fee which, and again, I told them I would be trying to avoid if I wasnt satisfied with their gym. So now I have to pay an extra month AND an annual fee, just to leave.I cancelled my membership at 24 Fitness and it took 3 mintues... no extra nonesense.Im going back to 24 Fitness! Also, their weights are all over the place. Some stations have ten 45lb plates, others have zero. Its frustrating. The facility is very clean and the basketball court is nice, and they have a ton of machines, so its not all bad. But I feel like thats not an honest way to do business. Hand written letter!? Come on...
In all of the interaction that Ive had with the staff, they were incredibly rude. They do not care at all about customer service. Its VERY difficult to cancel membership - you have to send a certified letter with 30days advance notice no matter what the situation is.Our entire house flooded and we lost everything. After 2 weeks of calling and emailing to try to freeze or cancel our membership, the General Manager (James Nobles) told me you need to send a letter you didnt lose your transportation, right? its not that hard to get to the post office and buy a forty-something cent stamp... seriously, no kindness in these people at all. There area is full of gyms with new equipment & cheap rates. I recommend going somewhere else that cares about customers!
Stay away from any Personal Fitness contracts with them. This is by no way a reflection on the trainers but the company that runs the contracts. I had specifically asked for a 3 month contract for my daughters and I was assured that would be the case. But they continued billing me. I asked the front desk and they gave me a different address to mail the certified mail. Then they tell me that the Personal Trainers and the Fitness connection are 2 different companies. The only way to cancel the contract is to send a certified letter and that too is should be received 30 days before the next billing cycle. If you miss that date by even a few days, you are billed another month. Also, you have to keep your certified mails tracking number otherwise they claim that they did not receive it.So in other words if you have a 3 month contract, you would have to send the cancellation letter immediately when you sign the contract, so that you wont get billed. I have been in Austin a long time and this is the shadiest billing practice ever.
This is just the worst gym I have ever been to. So much fees and lies. Managers are disrespectful all the care about is taking your money. DO NOT USE THIS GYM! I should of stayed with 24 hour never should of changed. And to try to cancel you have to get a certified letter, that a load of bull. Why do I have to go out of my way and write a letter go certify it and pay to get it certified and mail it off 30 days for canceling. Worst gym in Texas
Almost every time I call the location the call either gets picked up and immediately hung up or I am provided little to no assistance. I called to cancel my membership and was told to go to the website and then hung up on. I canceled my membership exactly 1 year after I signed up. A month goes by and Fitness Connection tries to take an August monthly payment and the annual fee. Little did I know, even though you cancel you are still a member for 30 days after?!? Now Im paying out over $50 for another annual fee and monthly fee even though I wont be stepping foot in the gym all year and canceled in July. BOGUS!!!!
Extremely affordable, huge facilities, wide variety of machines, weights and cardio stations. Even during peak hours you wont have to fight for equipment, unless you cant improvise or change your workout order.Staff is friendly-ish (some exceptions), but you dont really interact much with them. Its a very good gym overall.
Just over a month ago my credit card (used for my wifes monthly membership dues) was compromised and had to be replaced. We went in to update our card information (without receiving any late fees or past due payments notifications) and was told of a $20 late fee that was added to our account. We talked to the Operations Manager who said he would just charge us the monthly amount while he submitted a request to have the late fee credited. He assured us that it shouldnt be a problem. That was more than a month ago and after 6-7 calls/visits trying to get it resolved. Each time we contact them were given different reasons why a credit has not been applied and discover more membership record errors each time like references to a Retro Fitness membership that we never had! When I tried to escalate the issues and talk to the Regional Manager at the Tech Ridge location I received the same cold shoulder treatment from him. Several days go by without a returned phone call or any follow up. This place is poorly managed, highly disorganized, communication between staff and customers is extremely weak and they allow seemingly simple issue to go on far too long with no personal ownership or commitment to resolving them. Instead they ignore you hoping that you will go away! They make it very easy for you to sign up, but extremely difficult to get resolution on pending issue, credits to accounts, membership cancellation s, etc. because the local management cannot make decisions on their own. It seems ALL decisions have to be requested from Corporate who is too far removed from the local issues to care about their customers. My advice, STAY AWAY FROM FITNESS CONNECTION!!!! BTW, BBB rating is F!
Like many of the other reviews, the sales people here are very pushy and are liars. They had a deal going on and the sales person would lie to you and say that today will be the last day to sign up and get the deal. The gym even had signs up on the counter and walls saying that todays the last day to sign up and get the deal. But when I came back three days later the deal was still available. The only way to cancel your membership after signing up is to mail in a letter stating you want to cancel. The mail would probably take two weeks just to arrive, and it will allow them to charge you for another month. They will charge you $10 for a replacement plastic key ring card if you lose yours. $10 is an insanely high price to charge for a small plastic card, other gyms I have been to only charge $1.The facility is good but the way they run this gym needs improvement.
I have been trying to call and cancel my membership since April and have had no luck speaking to someone. I have been hung up on and been on hold for hours per day but they keep charging me. I signed up for a membership a year ago and was advised that there would only be a once a year charge for clear as well as your monthly fee. I was charged twice within two months. Ridiculous, I would go up there but i am currently pregnant and cant. I havent been here since last year.
I honestly thought this was too good to be true but after a week i can confirm its not. I go at 6 and have only had to wait on a machine once, the place is insanely clean, they have awesome classes and more machines than Ive ever seen at a gym....unbelievable value! during my tour I asked about cancelling the membership and its a cut a dry process.
Over the past two years I have been taken advantage of by Fitness Connection. When my local gym closed (Retro Fitness – North Austin) my membership information which included my banking information was taken by The Fitness Connection without my consent. I have never signed a Fitness Connection contract nor have ever stepped in a fitness connection, yet have been charged a monthly membership fee for the past two years. I am greatly hurt by this action taken by this large company and have repeatedly attempted to cancel my membership to no avail. A fraud has been committed, but at this point I would just like my membership cancelled. Wish I could give this company zero stars.
My wife and I moved out of the area and did the online cancellation for our memberships on 10/9. We received emails confirming they were received. Here we are, almost two months later, and we just got charged $42.22 a piece in addition to the last two months of fees! Customer service never responds. No one is willing to help. This is a scam of a company and I will never ever again entrust Fitness Connection. You guys have lost customers for life, and we are telling all of our friends and family to stay as far away as possible.
I dont know where to start with this gym. However, ill give this place the benefit of the doubt and start with the pros. The blueprint and looks of the gym are amazing, I love how they have a secluded area for women and a theatre feature for cardio and all the amenities is has to offer. Although this places interior is great, the customer services and how you are treated here definitely outweigh the pros. Their $10 a month ad is a complete ploy. There are a lot of hidden fees that come at you from no where making the $10 a month deceptive. Now I can deal with that, but what I cant deal with is the way Im being treated by the employees. The lack of customer service is unprofessional, they do not bother to greet you most of the time and let alone be at the front desk when you are checking in! And if you want to cancel your membership, goodluck. I called in to my location to ask how im able to do that and the girl on the phone told me it was as easy as going online and cancelling your membership. I was also given the corporate number and the girl on that line told me I would have to send in a letter to cancel my membership. After 5 calls back and forth trying to figure out who was telling me the correct procedure about cancellation I finally got it. UNTIL I was told I would still get charged for the next month due to the fact that im not cancelling 22 days ahead.....
My wife and I have been coming to fitness connection on lake creek and I’d like to recognize one of your team members by the name of Darious. When I enter this facility and I see him, he always had a friendly disposition. He’s definitely an asset to your facility. He remembers my name as I think that’s special as I’m sure he sees many people entering your gym. So I just wanted to tell him thanks for the encouraging words and the friendly way he greets us. Keep up the good workRicky Thompson
Heres some of the facts on my experience at this gym. The gym itself - clean and well stocked. Staff is friendly and professional. The cancel process earned them 2 stars. I was told at sign up that I would need to write a letter and mail it to the main office 30 days in advance. They suggested certified mail. I had to take time out of my day to go to the post office. Had to pay more to mail a letter. Watched the tracking info and saw that it was received and signed for. Never heard from the gym. I waited 31 days and called the local branch. They had no record of me cancelling and gave me the 800 number. The main office asked for a tracking number. I provided it, was put on hold, and then told they found my letter and would be canceling my account. Had I not called them, and provided a tracking number, they would have continued to bill me automatically. So, to make it clear to others - to cancel you have to:hand write a letter with your account info and desire to cancel - sign and datemail letter certified and hold on to your tracking infowait until the letter is signed for at their officecall their office, provide them the tracking number, and receive your last enrollment date.I would say the whole cancel process took 4 hours of my life away. It takes 15 minutes to sign up. You can decide what thats worth to you.
I joined the gym because there was suppose to be 24 hr access at both locations and they had the amemnities I wanted. The other location is not 24hr and they did not have a hot tub or steam rub as the sales associate described. To top it all off, I was charged an extra month even though I canceled 30 days prior to th date. Sales associates and front desk people have been rude at both locations. This place has just been terrible to deal with all around. They have lied and did whatever to take every cent from me and did not provide what they said they had. My new gym is leaps and bounds better and I bet you can find a better gym in this area.I will he reporting this business to the Better Business Bureau and make sure I tell everyone I know of just how horrible this place is.
Gym experience is decent, customer service experience is terrible. You pay in headache what you save in money over other gyms.At a point during the billing process, the card I was using declined at which point they tried to charge it several times where it kept declining. Rather than telling you so you can take care of it, their policy is to charge an additional cost every time the card is declined. I told them the first one seemed fair but it seemed odd that Id have to pay for every time they try despite them not telling me there was an issue, they said no, they cant waive any of them and you are contractually responsible for every single charge. A similar experience with a gym less than 10 minutes away was Oh, your card declined. Oh sorry, that one expired. Can I pay now? Yes. Great, enjoy your workout. And when I asked about cancelling, they do the classic you have to send in a written letter asking to cancel and from the date we open it, were going to charge you an extra month as a tactic to waste your time and get a few more months out of you that you dont want.Beyond corporate being greedy and intentionally difficult to work with, the general customer experience is terrible. When I went in to this location asking about a promotion, the girl who worked with me told me that the promotion ended but that she could offer me a different, lesser, promotion. When I told her that didnt seem right and that I wanted to go home and research, she used high pressure sales tactics You better take this today. If you walk away, we wont offer this to you again. to try to pressure me into paying right there and then. Turned out the other promotion was still valid and when I talked to somebody else. Every other experience related to money has been the same, them constantly pressuring you to buy X or make Y payment RIGHT NOW. OR ELSE.Plenty of other gyms in Austin. Dont waste your time with this one.
Do not join this gym unless you want to be tied down forever. They are running scam for sure. I should have followed my instinct in the beginning and not signed but instead I was persuaded by a person I should not have listened. I have not been able to go to this gym for two months now and the earliest I can cancel my membership is two months from now. So thats 4 months of payment down the toilet. If I can give negative 5 stars I would.
Warning to all potential customers - Fitness Connection will not let you cancel your membership without writing a letter to their office in Dallas. This business practice is meant for one thing - to slow your cancellation down and hope you dont care enough to go through the trouble of cancelling. I am sure this fact is disclosed somewhere in the terms of service contract, but it wasnt disclosed verbally and feels like a very scummy business policy. I would recommend getting a membership elsewhere solely for this reason.
Beware of Fitness connection... I was approach to work with a trainer there and sucked into signing something to get started. I didnt read it since they rushed me to get started. BIG Mistake! I called fitness connection to find out how I needed to cancel and they gave me the address to the corp office to send a letter to cancel which I did. NO ONE said I needed to cancel with the trainer too. I just got a call from a collection agency 10 months later telling me I own them 1800.00! I will fight this. I called Ultra body fitness(the trainer portion and basically they told me Im SOL. This is pure Fraud!
Ive never actually visited this Fitness Connection, but when the Retro Fitness in Austin closed suddenly, my membership and my personal training contract was transferred from Retro Fitness to Fitness Connection without my knowledge! I spoke to someone at ABC Financial, their billing company, about cancelling both contracts and was told to call the Fitness Connection location. I called them and was told that a) I would have to send a certified letter to ABC Financial to cancel the gym contract (its 2017! Theres no reason to have to do this!) and b) that I would have to pay for the remainder of the personal trainer contract, despite no longer being a gym member or using the trainer. So! Apparently Im out $300 a month through no fault of my own! This is extraordinarily shady, but I guess thats just how gyms do business these days.
Let me be upfront. I came down to this gym with a guest pass from one of my friends. I worked out and then I was seen by Anthony and we talked about my fitness goals and why I was checking out the gym. He worked with me to find a membership setup that made sense and we talked at great length about my concerns with cancellation policy’s and busy times in the gym. Anthony was also very upfront about the cancellation policy and when i should send in my cancellation notice as i plan to move out of state in May. We also talked about training sessions to help with recovery from a recent arm surgery. The gym is always spotless, even the busy times aren’t too bad. This gym gets a 5/5 because of Anthony. Every time I see him in the gym he comes and talks to me. I’ve been in many gyms and never had that before. The staff echo Anthony’s sentiment and are all very friendly and helpful if you have questions about maximizing workouts or just need a different approach to get the gains you want.
OMG!!! I love to workout there. The staff is extremely helpful from the front desk to the floor. I havent had any problems. The contract clearly states that you must send a certified letter 30 days in advance if you choose to stop membership charges. If any changes come in the future, I will surely let you know. In the meantime, Im excited to be a member.
Please do not sign up for this gym. Rude and good-for-nothing customer service. To start with, I didnt sign up for this gym at all(membership was automatically transitioned from Retro Fitness without any notification). I have been trying to cancel the membership for months now. They accept your cancellation only when you send a freaking LETTER to their address. I sent my first cancellation letter(certified mail) on the April 25th and they still claim that they havent received the letter yet. Here, Im sending my second letter hoping they would receive it at least this time. The whole process itself is ridiculous. This membership should have been cancelled a long time ago. I even tried to freeze my account for travel reasons, they said that they freeze account only for medical and military reasons!!!!! They are nothing but a fraudulent company who excel at scams. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM SEEING THEIR PRICE!
The average 3 star rating is undeserved. This location deserves a 5 star rating. The location is well stocked and maintained. The men’s locker room is far cleaner than it’s competitors (and cleaner than it’s sister location off I-35). Machines are well maintained. I work out every morning and have never had issues with parking upon arrival or hot water. And after two years I’ve never had an issue with the monthly draft charge, and the one time my card changed there was zero difficulty in having that changed on site. Staff are courteous (they’re not necessarily jumping up and down with jubilee when you walk in the door but cmon you’re paying $10/month and they are there to scan your membership card). When I look at the complaints and 1 star reviews on here it’s a litany of privileged nonsense from people who seem to think you’re paying $50/month for some bougie country club — not a $10/month clean and well stocked gym with free daycare.
Be warned they make it very hard to cancel! You have to give them 60 day written notice. I haven’t lived near a location for well over a year. I sent written notice at time of moving. They have continued to charge me. I have no proof that notice was sent. Now I have to send certified mail and they still charge. The card they had on file expired and they keep charging and never said anything to me. Meh not a good way to do business. Not happy with this place at all.Edit: still being an absolute nightmare to get my account closed. Absolute horrible to deal with!!!! It has been a wast of hundreds of dollars and hours. They have been making charge after charge on my card. Some differ from what the original rate was. Absolutely the worst customer service. They will give you the run around and rip you off!!!
Im not usually one for writing reviews, but in this case, I feel like I should toss out a warning to anyone considering this place.Like some of the other reviewers here, I got my membership transferred over to this place with no way to opt out after Retro Fitness suddenly closed at the beginning of the month. And between them and ABC Financial, their billing company, they are jointly making sure its impossible to drop a membership I never asked for. (I also got charged for November even though my gym no longer existed after the 1st.) Fitness Connection advised me to send a certified letter to ABC, but ABC told me they will not honor that letter. The facility itself is nice, but the way they handled the Retro Fitness exodus was very shady. If they hadnt roped me into a membership without my consent, they might have been a place I would have been willing to check out on my own. Their management is probably not to be trusted, in my opinion.
I think the only thing enjoyable about this gym is the facility. The equipement and space is fantastic, however, the staff is extermely unpleasant. Ive had one employee snatch papers out of my guest hands while insulting her.. then another time I was told different information that to bring a guest it would be 3 months until they could return, which we did, then it magically became 4 months. When we asked them to give us the date of when she last came in they couldnt give it to us saying it was flagged, but doesnt say the last time she actually came in. Seems like BS. & to pay for the day pass it also magically went from $10 to $16... what? I hate inconsistency and that is all I get as far as information from staff. The only person who was kind and consistent was Ryan.If you also want to cancel your membership be prepared to do it several months in advance as you will read from other members it is a battle to get done. I would like to think great customer service is worth paying more at another gym that doesnt treat you the way they do, thats just my opinion. If you have thick skin then the $10 is a great deal.
This place is great, great staff, and great sales people. I came here with a goal to change my life I wanted to be more fit and stop smoking and what do you know I have not touched a cig. In 2 weeks. I love how they know there supplements. This place is great for the price you have access to everything. I would highly recommend trying this gym out its great and full of great motivators. Thanks John for all your help.
Its unfortunate. I read all the reviews, and saw people saying they would conveniently lose the mail you send in to cancel membership. I assumed people were mailing it incorrectly, until it happened to me. I cancelled months ago, just double checked and Im still getting charged. Its a shame since the gym itself was fine, the cancellation process is just a mess. If it happens to this many people, its not an accident. Cant recommend this place, its not worth it.Edit: I called the number listed, they did nothing to remedy the situation.
THIEVES! I would have given them 0 stars if I could. They wont let you cancel your contract over the phone and you have to send a certified letter, IN THE MAIL, to provide them with a 30 day notice of cancellation. Mind you, I never signed any contract, and after numerous phone calls, they are still charging my account. I only attended this gym ONCE and now I am out over $100 because of their sorry, unethical business practices. I would highly caution anyone signing up for a membership!!!
I switched gyms to come to FC, but I didn’t realize that the hours were extremely limited during covid. This has made it an issue for me to go to the gym. I get that it’s a pandemic, but I feel like I’m dishing out money to wait for a future that’s so unsure. I like the equipment, but only the basketball court opened right now.
I have been a member here since it opened. My wife has been trying to cancel her account for 3 months. They make you mail a letter to their corporate office, which they conveniently lose each time you mail it. In the meantime, they keep charging you a monthly fee that you are unable to prevent. They have terrible Yelp reviews and an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. I used to recommend this place when I joined. Now I tell everybody interested to stay away.
Tldr: customer service is so bad! all they care about is more members! theres never any room to workout (unless you go past 9pm)!i feel like in a business perspective they do have the responsibility of signing up new members but as a gym they should try to cater to their current members needs. when we went in for a tour, they did not let my family leave without a membership. they started at a $200+ down fee w/ a $10 monthly but as we said this was too much they let us (aka made us) speak to about three other directors to cut this price down a bit. since they were nagging us to sign up for a membership we decided why not. the next day i ask if my friend could sign up for the same down fee and they made the most absurd excuse. fast forwarding a few months, i wanted to take the same friend in as a guest but since she came in as a guest with her cousin around 4 months ago, they didnt let her in. in the about three minutes that we were in there, they probably asked her to sign up to be a member at least 5 times. 1.66666+ times each minute. now onto another story, they were having a 10 down, 10 monthly promotion, so i called to see how long that promotion will last so my friend could sign up. they said that the promotion was supposed to end yesterday but they luckily pushed it to today, so they have no clue when itll end, but probably today i say thank, about to end the call, and they ask me if i want to set up an appointment. why? so they can for sure gain a new member! kinda annoying.
The cancellation system was the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. They want a letter and a months notice for membership termination. I do not recomend this gym to anyone. The hours for this facility are inconvenient just like the cancellation.Costumer service is absolutely terrible. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM
I’ve been a member since this gym opened. There is only two reasons I stay, it’s $10 a month and the facility itself is well worth it. However the rudeness of the front staff and management hat has trickled in and out over the last year have made me start the process of going back to Golds with the new year.
The one at Tech Ridge Austin is scam. They are nothing but scam, rude employees, lied on contract and will charge different. Coporate are criminal minded and always follow Gym paths without resolving customer concern. They will push you to cancel your contract, then afterwards, manipulate your account with some ridiculous fees to pay. Please do not sign up at fitness connection. I wish they all go out of business soon just like other ones like them.
I can say that this is truly a great facility, but my reviews are generally based off of my overall experience. the only reason this is not a 5-star review is because of the corporation. The people at this location are amazing and very helpful. The corporation on the other hand is not customer-friendly at all. Dont try canceling a membership because if you do, youll have to write a letter to the corporate office somewhere in some obscure city in Texas and it has to be a 30 day notice, but you have to be sure that your letter doesnt get lost and that you calculate the exact amount of days its going to take to get there so that by the time they read it it will be 30 days prior to your cancellation and not 28 or 29 days prior because then you have to pay for that month and wait until they cancel it the next month.Im in marketing so I understand trying to retain the customer, but every other company in America uses email or has a digital system that allows you to activate, cancel, or manipulate your membership with them. its just really weird how they were able to sign me up over the phone on a computer and do everything else through email including sign my contract oh, but they were unable to cancel my membership via email. You guys are truly stuck in the stone ages.
I want to say thank you to everyone for helping resolve my account issues. I really enjoy working out at Fitness Connection, since joining in May of 2019 I have lost 50lbs. Ive gone from a 38in waist to a 33in I have a flat tummy for the first time in about 5yrs and I couldnt be happier. Thanks to Josh and the team for everything.
Love this gym. However, I have been politely complaining about the gym being far too cold for as long as I have been a member which is as long as the gym has been open. Management is apparently never on site and all the employees do is agree with me that the air conditioning is too cold when combined with the giant fans and so they wear jackets and sweaters to work. Somebody in management please investigate the meaning of the word “homeostasis” as it regards health and fitness. This is like biology 101 folks. Anyone with a personal trainer’s license should know this information. Gym thermostats should never be set to below 75. Really should be 80. God/evolution created perspiration to cool us off. You don’t have to be a medical doctor to understand this. Gyms that are too cold make people sick. And I’m tired of getting sick at your gym.
I recently joined this gym and find it to be extremely well equipped and very clean. I use the gym during the day and there is never a wait for equipment. There is an option to purchase a training program and so far I have been happy with the quality of the training.
Just writing this because I am super hurt. Awful customer service! They dont treat you well when there is no manager around tbh. Such a disgrace!. I have been a member since this place opened and its a great place to be. I usually get temporary memberships during breaks and i did it this time too. They told me to sign a monthly membership and come cancel it before Jan 31 so i can get the Best Deal, that what they said. And today on 31st when i went there, this lady, I believe was already irritated, told me that she cant cancel it. Instead of helping me and dealing with the problem, she just put everything on me, that i should be responsible to read what to sign which says that you need to give 30 day notice before cancelling a membership. I felt i was wronged, they gave me a word and trust!. And I kept saying that but she said that she was irritated, at least three times!!! and kept saying me to leave the facility. What did i do here? i was not yelling or anything? i was not being disrespectful. she said me to leave at least 6 times. How rude and mean you can be? you dont ruin someones day/new years like that or treat anyone like that! Ill pay what i am required for my membership and what i signed but dont treat anyone like this. Please Hire better front desk employees and improve the old school cancelling process!
Ive been a member since it first opened up. Randy V. (manager) personally signed me up along with my brother at the time, however, the entire staff has changed now. The price is still well worth the value. I havent had any bad customer service until very recently, Saturday, December 23. My brothers account was supposed to be frozen due to military (they took a copy of his orders and wrote the required statement), however, we found out they canceled it instead. Since my brother came back for the holidays, we decided to try the Tech Ridge location for our first time. Theres a significant difference in the staffs customer service compared to Lake Creeks location. The manager (dont remember her name) that assisted us tried to resolve our issue the best she could and even got my brother a seven (7) day guest pass for the time being, which current members werent allowed to get. She said the staff at Lake Creek would be able to call their facility since his guest pass was for that location only and due to the circumstances on hand. When we went to Lake Creek, Remy (front staff associate) and Elvira (assistant manager) provided very terrible customer service to us. They werent very understanding nor did they try to accommodate my brother. They both said they dont freeze accounts at all and that my brother would have to sign up for a membership all over again. They wouldnt provide a guest pass or even attempt to call the Tech Ridge location. Elvira said the only way he would be able to use the gym was to purchase a one (1) month membership for $49.99, in which he was only in town for about a week. She kept wanting to push the sale. Before leaving, we asked if she knew where Randy and the previous management staff were. She responded, I dont know. Its an entire new staff. As management, I believe you should at least be knowledgeable of where your previous management staff relocate to and/or respond more professionally than the way she did. We left as soon as that and went to the Tech Ridge location. We tried contacting corporate but the office for Austin/Dallas was only opened M-F. Nonetheless, we still intend to contact corporate to file a complaint against Elvira and resolve my brothers membership.
Ive been a FC Lake Creek customer for over 3yrs now. Until recently, I would have given them 5 stars as theyve been providing quality Cycle (spin) classes with a variety of options but they just announced that they are cutting the Les Mills program & amazing instructor (Sharonda Cooper). IMO, Sharonda w/Les Mills is the best! Les Mills was also the first spin cycle program offered when this location opened. Since then, there have been a few other spin cycle programs that have followed but Les Mills was the first & continue to have the most loyal customers in attendance. I attempted to have a professional conversation with the FC Lake Creek mgt but they responded with: 1) it was a corporate decision to cut Les Mills effective 2020 so theres nothing they can do to help & 2) if youd like to cancel your membership, simply go online to do so! Never did an employee nor mgr at this location take my feedback seriously nor offer to note my concerns in order to pass along to their corporate decision makers. SAD! Extremely poor customer service! Im curious if they will be able to provide a quality replacement for their Monday & Friday 10am slots & I will provide a follow-up in the coming weeks once they have made final decisions & gotten everything figured out. I know of at least 15 other loyal Les Mills customers that have been attending Sharondas classes @ FC Lake Creek for years that are also prepared to cancel their membership if theyre unable to find quality instructors/programs to replace the Mon & Fri 10am slot. Interesting to see if their decision to cut Les Mills will come back to bite them in the coming months - which are also their busiest, most profitable & most important time of year. :(
Lake Creek Austin Location: A lot of clients joined this gym because of instructor Honey. Now they are taking away her dance classes leaving no dance/cardio at lake creek. I have taken classes with all instructors and no one teaches Zumba/mixxed fit like Honey. No one else has rhythm or good music. Sorry to say, but no one else knows how to teach or what they are doing. Bring Honey’s classes back!!!!
I really like this gym. Its monthly price and overall amenities far exceed expectations set by its direct competition.I normally lift in the morning, so attendance is relatively sparse. However, my only gripe results from those days where I ignore the belligerence of my alarm clock, and am forced to lift in the evening.I truly believe that squat racks are meant for squatting, not for someone to drag a bench over there and work their chest while attempting pretentious selfies at the same time...I would suggest more squat racks and a few more bench press setups to help abate such buffoonery...
**update 10.1.19- I have emailed your support team per your direction 3 times. I have never heard back AND WOULD APPRECIATE SOMEONE CONTACTING ME IMMEDIATELY. Review responses are lip service. Original mailed later emailed to my self with computer date and time stamp.Original Review:Total scam with regards to membership cancellations. Customer service is short, rude and unhelpful to say the least. Cancelled following their rules several months ago and still getting bills. Customer service will not let you speak to management. Read the reviews before letting this company get their claws into you! 100% Not worth it, not an honest business practice, no integrity!
If you look on the internet for the Austin gym, it has it down as Lake Creek, yet, all the other names have the name of the town not the area of town. So if you live in Austin and are trying to find the gym look under Lake Creek, click it and it will pull up. The classes are not on the website if you are trying to plan your week. I think they only post during the week but I could not find anything online on Sunday. Sometimes the A/C is off or not cool in the womens theater, which doesnt seem to work all the time yet girls will be in their getting it done in the dark and heat and in the summer quite warm. Otherwise, it is fabulous. This is the best kept secret in Austin if you are into clean, gyms with great classes. Everyone I meet gets an earful of how great the Silver Sneakers classes are as well as the Zumba. I have gotten a few people to join because they realized the classes are fun. The Zumba Fit class blew my mind. The music and the workout were great.
Be aware that if you sign up for this gym and ever want to cancel your membership, you must write a letter to their corporate office to cancel. This was something that was never explained when I signed up for this gym, yet they were so quick to take my bank account information. This is so frustrating!!!!
Im a competitive bodybuilder who actively competes in 2 shows a year. Working out and fitness are my passion. When a gym like fitness connection came into lake Creek. I was excited. Because of how big the gym was. That means less wait time on machines. My first issue was when I was constantly bothered by my bag being on the floor. I told the staff member I have knee wraps, elbow wraps, belts and shakes. Ive noticed that I was the only one being bothered about this. There were several people with bags on the floor. Were they that concerned that Id be the one trying to slip a leg extension machine in my bag. My second issue is that I have people who like to workout with me and follow my routine. So they came in with me. I was bothered by the personal training staff saying I was training people. We both explained to the management and trainers that we were friends. But again.. maybe its because the way I looked, I was a threat to the training staff. I was finally asked to see the manager. I told him Im not a trainer and my friends (who got a membership at connection because of me) were not clients. In fact, Im not getting paid for any of it. Were working out together. I said that Im sorry the fitness trainers dont practice what they preach, and that theyre intimidated by me. The manager then said you are not a good fit for this gym and revoked my membership all because I was giving direction. Well of course Im giving direction, I dont want my friends to do a movement wrong that can hurt them. Its a shame. Its a great gym with lots of equipment. But the prejudice is just horrible. All I can say that if your a competitor or look like a bodybuilder. Youll be singled out. Dont go here.
I really appreciate the room dedicated to women, since I like the full body workout circuit. After I pump some iron and stretch, I go into the theater. I generally have not seen the movies...but whatever plays minimally keeps me company while I do the dreaded treadmill...I simply would never do it, otherwise. My only concern, now that they include subtitles is the choice of stations offered in the workout room. I am a news junkie and wish they would dedicate one screen to a worthwhile, bipartisan news program... I was surprised not to see the latest debate...
Cancellation policy is that most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard of, who the hell writes letters anymore anyway. You will forever lose my business and anyone that ask about this gym will get a horrible review. You do cause you know most people wont do it and you sit back and collect the money while you get fat and rich. You probably dont even work out at your own gym. It regards, screw this gym.
If I could give this gym 0 stars I would. They are running a complete scam when it comes to cancelling your membership. If you dont believe me, go read all the reviews that people are writing on Facebook for this location and well as other locations (especially the Dallas locations). When you are ready to cancel your membership, get ready to see their true colors. They do not make it easy. You will be dealing with it for months and you will probably have deal with credit bureaus and collection agencies as well. They are running a total scam. If you are reading this right now, trust me: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!
Bait and switch. They offer $10 per month deal to get you in the door but you actually have to pay $370 the first year ($260 on the first day).Would actually rather work with a company that is honest, even if it cost a bit more.Response to owner: Your front desk told me that on day one it would be a $250 enrollment fee plus the first monthly fee of $10. That is $260. Add 11 months of additional $10 monthly payments and it adds to the $370 for the first year which I mentioned. If youve lowered your prices, great. Otherwise you need to work on your math. To avoid bait and switch, your ads should mention the expensive upfront enrollment fee and not just the monthly fee of $10. You baited me into visiting your location by advertising $10/month but when I wasted a trip to check out your offer the price switched to $370, more than three times the advertised price of $120.
Decent Gym - Nice gym for the price, but very pushy sales people...I mean VERY PUSHY. Being that its the only one in the Cedar Park area, it gets quite crowded....and it took them almost a year to make it 24 hours like they promised me when I initially signed up almost a year ago. Also still waiting on the kick-boxing class they promised me as well....
Nice guys and very accommodating. I would be a member if I wasnt already locked into tweny for hr for a year.My wife likes the ppl and the atmosphere. I came with her the other day and the staff understood I couldnt sign up but still let me have a workout with her. These guys are out to give an A class gym experience for a low end gym price.
HORRIBLE!!! The cancellation process for this gym is beyond terrible. Unless you send a certified letter they will deny receiving the letter. Cancellation could be much easier by allowing members to cancel by written notice or filling out paper work at the location. Their website says you can cancel in person so I drove all the way there for the customer service rep to hand me a piece of paper with an address to mail my request to. The paper does not indicate that the letter must be certified. WHAT A RIP OFF. They will deny getting the letter.
Buyer bewareLooking at the other reviews here our experience is common place. These guys and their manager, Lisa, are focused on exploiting your wallet. We sent a certified note cancelling membership and they billed for the next month. Then sent the bill to a collection agency. Stopped in, spoke with Lisa, she said that’s their policy and it’s in the contract. No exceptions. So an $11 fee becomes a $45 collection action.
Stay away. These guys operate under shady business practices at best.I had a gym membership through retro Fitness which closed down at the first of November. These guys illegally purchased my contract and refuse to let me out of even though the contract I signed clearly states that they had no right to do so. After sitting on the phone for hours and emailing all the proper channels I was rudely told to hold before being hung up on.
I recently joined this gym. The sales person who signed me up had me complete a paper application. I show up to workout the next day and Im told they dont have me in the computer yet. So they have me complete another application, this time online. When it came time to pay dues, I was double charged and was REQUIRED to pay LATE FEES. The manager stated he would help get this resolved, BUT SHAUN HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I am still receiving notifications to make payments on a duplicate account and they will not fix this. How is this even ethical? I tried speaking to TIANA, but she was busy with someone else. Is Fitness Connection going to do the right thing or do I need to contact an attorney?
Juan, one of the employees here, physically took my ID with them offsite to another gym. When I dropped by the front desk to pick it up (post workout), the other employees told me he actually still had my drivers license with him when left to go to the other gym. Nothing else matters about a business when you cant even trust that someone working there will take the 10 seconds needed to walk across a desk area (maybe 10 feet total) and put your ID in a box or folder. The idea is they hold onto your ID/license as part of a guest pass so you have to speak with them at the end of your workout (potential membership, etc), only this guy literally held onto it. I had to come back later in the day to pick it up.
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! Go to Golds or LA Fitness. Once again FC, you have the worst customer service ever. When someone forgets their key tag dont give them the run around. U have pictures on file just ask for a phone number and verify. Even more frustrating especially when the staff member knows who you are....what a joke! Oh, and one other thing is the kids club keeps getting over ratio, this is a liability....NOT GOOD!!! If you are looking for a gym this is not it, U are just a number to them!
Do not sign up here. They have shady business practices at cancellation. Lets not even mention the fact that you have to write a letter (in 2019) to cancel, then it takes 30 days for the cancellation to take effect. No, what I want to focus on is the criminal practice of then charging an annual fee of $50 (which I already paid when I signed up four months ago) on your way out. Then, when you try to contest it, customer service will tell you that they cannot refund it, there are no supervisors to speak with, and to call back later. When you try to call back though, they literally have your number sent straight to voicemail. This place is criminal. Please do not ever give it your business. I have filed complaints with the BBB.
**********DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM********** These guys are shady. I emailed them on April 5th to cancel my membership, because you have to give them 30 days notice to cancel your membership so they can gouge you one more time. I never hear from them. So I email them on the 24th to inquire that they did in fact see my email. I get an email back telling me we do not cancel memberships at the club level. You would need to send in a certified letter to the corp office to cancel. In the letter you will need to state your first and last name, date of birth, and reasoning for cancelling.1. It took almost 3 weeks and me emailing a second time to get a response? IM CALLING BS ON THAT!2.You signed me up at the club level, but you cant cancel me at the club level? IM CALLING BS ON THAT!3. A Certified letter? This is the 21st century. We have email. Why do you need snail mail? So you can get extra time charging us? IM CALLING BS ON THAT!4. My reason? F-YOU! Thats my reason. Im not required to give you fukkos a reason! IM CALLING BS ON THAT!So I email Customer Service for Texas. They try to quote me the fine print in their BS contract about the cancellation requirements. This policy is only in Austin and Dallas apparently. Anywhere else in the US or Texas even you can apparently email in your cancellation and theyll take care of you. Easy. Its called customer service! And on top of that they charged me my an annual fee. Umm no. I cancelled on the 5th. They charged me on the 15th. Im not even 5 months into my membership. Last time I checked annual means once a year. Which means for those of you in the slow seats at corporate, since Ive already paid my first year I shouldnt be charged again for a year.adjective1. occurring once every year.the sponsored walk became an annual eventsynonyms:yearly, once-a-year, every twelve monthsan annual reportYup there it is in Mirriams. So now Ill dispute those charges with my bank. I love my bank they protect me against corporate fraud. They, actually, take care of me like they actually know what Customer Service means. The short version is making sure the customer is happy. The longer version is to ensure the customer or client is satisfiedwith the product or service provided, and with the sales, delivery, installation, and other components of the purchasing process.Look another definition. Lets see is Fitness Connection succeeding at providing good customer service?Am I happy? No, no not at all!So Im thinking of hand delivering my cancellation letter. TAPED TO A BRICKOR FedExing my letter, but using my dogs poop instead of ink after he eats a pot of my chili.I also will be cancelling my debit card so they cant charge any more illegal and unethical charges to me(Did I mention they dont have a signed agreement by moi?). A small price to pay to put an end to these frauds.Oh and since I have another month and I only work 3 days a week. Ill be showing up the other 4 days and hanging out waiting for potential new clients to come in. And letting them know what kind of scheming scum suckers they are.Anyone think thats too much?I think its fitting
The gym is, modern and affordable. They have lots of cardio equipment: bikes, treadmills, stair climber and ellipticals. They have spin classes with a movie theater and indoor basketball court. The only thing that could make this place better is a swimming pool. Its a tremendous value!
Had an account issue due to bank, account was terminated due to issue. When we explained the issue to General Manager Scott Smith, he immediately offered a fix and allowed us to workout in the meantime. It took a couple of days but didn’t mind at all because of the genuine reaction and attention to detail, I didn’t mind waiting because of his customer service. Thanks for the great attitude and assistance
Great gym, good equipment and good people overall. As a former employee the problem starts with the leaders at the gym who are the Fitness Director(Luis) and General Manager(James). They teach unethical ways to conduct business, by intentionally lying to employees and members. When employees see that it causes them to form the same habits and create bad member experiences. You should never lie to someone just to sale them something, people appreciate honesty and when you deceive them for a short term gain your gym turns into a 2 star gym. It’s unfortunate because they get a lot of great people to come work for them but most don’t last long because of the poor leadership. Luis and James are good salesman but they are very bad leaders
Masks are required. No staff enforces this rule except at entry. 70% of the people are not covering their nose or mouth. They walk around without their masks covering anything. Thought I could restart working out safely but I wouldnt bother at this point. Dont get a membership...
Preface: I have been active all my life. I played competitive basketball and collegiate/professional tennis. Ive had memberships at gyms all across the nation and have worked with all sorts of trainers.Joining Fitness connection has been the worst experience. I dont understand how this business is running or how someone hasnt sued this place.1.) Staff members are clueless. The employee that scammed me into purchasing a membership was doing all she could to get me to buy a membership. Throwing in protein, glutamine, BCAA, etc. Telling me that these supplements did X, Y and Z. Little did she know, I have been involved in fitness my entire life, have a MS in Physiology, and am nearly completing my PhD in Anatomy.2.) I noticed that another guest interested in getting a membership received a 1 week pass to try out the gym before deciding. They refused to give me the same opportunity. Straight up told me that they dont do that. But, seeing how desperate they were and all these free supplements, I bought a membership anyway.3.) Before signing any papers, I asked if I could read the contract. I asked for clarification on a part of the contract and the employee told me, Shoot, honestly I havent even looked at it.4.) I spoke to the manager for clarification. I was concerned about not vibing with this gym. He told me that if I purchased the membership, I could cancel it within 3 days for a full refund. This made me feel better about not getting the one week pass. HERE IS THE FUN PART:- I cancelled my membership because I received confirmation that I would be moving. So I called within 2 days to cancel and followed the protocol written on the contract.- A month goes by, my membership is not cancelled and they charge me for that month.- I call corporate and they kept transferring me to different locations. Ultimately, ended up at an automated message and leaving a voicemail.- Another 2 weeks goes by. Still no refund. I call the Austin location. They tell me to give it another 2 weeks to process. If not, My name is ###. Look for me and I will fix it.- Another 2 weeks goes by. I call the Austin location. They tell me this is a matter for corporate. We cant do anything about it. I then asked for ###, and they told me he was fired last week.- I call cooperate again and they told me they will send me a check. I should receive it in 2 weeks.- 3 weeks later, nothing.I have given up on the money I spent there. I am taking it as a learning experience. I paid a good chunk of money to learn that I have to be careful everywhere I go, even with business that appear official. This place what not only improfessional. It was a straight up SCAM.
I would never recommend this gym. I have written few letters(one certified) asking them to cancel the membership, because thats the ONLY way to cancel it and they keep telling me that they never get them and continue to charge me. Its been 4 months and I am still dealing with this mess. Of course, services are not here in Austin and managers at the gym CANT do anything to help you.
The front desk staff is actually mildly friendly but mostly inattentive, several times during the months I was a member there I had to scan my own card because they were busy staring at their phone behind the desk.Management is pretty much the worst I’ve seen at any gym, rude and abrupt and don’t care about pretty much anything except making sure you pay your membership and any fees they decide to slap on.But there’s still hope! You can always cancel your membership like I did, all you have to do is use their super antiquated process of writing a handwritten letter and mailing it to corporate and then 30 days after they receive it your membership is cancelled! Except the fact that corporate never seems to receive letters (not just mine but at least 10 others that I’ve personally asked if their membership was cancelled on time) and then if you don’t let them charge your card for the months after you cancelled your membership they send you to collections for your months that you weren’t supposed to be a member there, plus a $35 for each of the months and a $50 cancellation fee. But hey for $10 a month for a membership they can hustle you for as much money as they want right?Oh by the way for the first few weeks after you sign up youll be hounded to buy personal training sessions and pushed by their sales associates to buy the supplements under the counter. I was approached at least twice a day and brought over to the counter so they could try and sling their overpriced supplements to me.
DO NOT SIGN UP HERE! These guys are disingenuous thieves who are helping Retro Fitness LLC unlawfully steal the membership agreement I signed with their licensee Retro Fitness Austin which recently closed its doors. There is no doubt they will try to scam you out of your hard earned money as well.My contract clearly stated that Retro Fitness Austin must provide facilities in the event they closed their doors. Retro Fitness LLC did not own nor operate the facilities I signed up at and had no authority to sell my agreement to Fitness Connection. Fitness Connection is claiming Retro Fitness still owns our contracts but we have access to their facilities which they happen to charge less than half of what they are continuing to bill me for. No thanks. This is a lie according to Fitness Connections own staff I talked with on the phone (which hung up on me twice) and to the email I finally received in response from Retro Fitness LLC...I have been informed that all memberships have been sold and transferred to Fitness Connection. If you have any questions regarding your account or wish to cancel, please contact Fitness Connection directly.STAY CLEAR OF THESE THIEVES! GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO SOMEONE ELSE!
This place has the most free weight squat racks in Austin, the newest equipment and its huge.....a private workout area for women and a ton of cardio machines. Classes, everything...only $10 a month. Luis Flores, the Fitness Director, helped me with my torn rotator cuff by showing me certain resistance exercises to do and Im eternally grateful; Ive been a member everywhere....Golds for 15 years (theyre horrible and treat their customers like trash, stole from my bank account three other members dues of over $500 and never paid it back....), 24 hour fitness for 5 years, Lifetime.....way better than all of these gyms. Got tired of waiting for dudes to stop doing chest on the two squat racks at those other places and took my business here and will never go back.
I have bad Experience wait Training section here I never going to training again . Management here change every month And they transfer to new Trainer they start with all over again look like you just start the gym.My last trainer quit his job and management supposed to set me with new trainer they didn’t set up . And I don’t know anything about my trainer quite his Job. I went there to my Training section and I was waiting for my trainer he didn’t show up and I calling Him .he didn’t answer my phone. He text me .call you back later and he never call me back and one week later I text him about my training time he reply me back He said I’m not longer work there they Management didn’t call you .I reply him NoI was waiting month nobody called me and they charge me every month .And I talk with new manager about my training and he say let me look up your account and I’ll call you back. I was waiting for two weeks no reply or call .And I call to corporate office about my training charge and I told them I’m been charge but I’m not getting training and I told him cancel my account I don’t want to be train anymore and they say you have to pay the whole amount to cancel the contract. that’s how they play games with customers. If anyone ask me about Planning to training I’m going to say no never
I tried 3 day pass (visited only once by the way). The sales people here are so ridiculous! They called and emailed me numerous times to join the gym, and I already replied a few times that I was not interested in joining by emails, they kept emailing me with the same offer over and over again that I wasnt interested in, so I finally had to block getting emails from them. Guess what... they texted me!! I blocked getting text messages from them now.
Update - downgrading 1 starShowing signs of oversellingNot only have they not yet gone 24 hours as originally promised, multiple times they havent opened on time.Music is TOO LOUD.Wifi is operational though a bit spotty, often not working.Nice new equipment.Very reasonable monthly fee.Large enough that it can handle fairly large volume without affecting your workout.Music is at dance club levels - at times I worry about hearing loss and ask for it to be turned down but its always returned to a high level later. No wifi.Classes very limited at this time. Not open 24 hour even though it was promised to be in December.Low cost is great and will earn more stars when the sales promises are delivered (24 hr and wifi). And would be excellent if music were low enough to allow listening to personal music without causing hearing damage.
OVERALL: Too many members. SWEATY/WET machines. Workouts now take too long because so many members!! TVs normally do not have service.2 stars only because of the affordable price.CLEANING STAFF: Great. They keep the (mens) bathroom clean and gym floors vacuumed. However, THEY DO NOT CLEAN THE MACHINES THEMSELVES. With this many members, t is impossible to keep all the equipment/benches that you sit on-clean.NO one uses TOWELS while they work out, so the equipment/pads are normally greasy and sweaty. The FCs idea of a CLEANING STATION is a huge roll of paper towels sitting on too of a garbage can. No stations with HAND SANITIZER.THE MUSIC! It seems like its always the Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon, Flo Rida and Pitbull. Not appropriate lyrics/music playing if I had kids, thats for sure!! The vol. played has gotten lower, but sometimes its still so loud. My belief is, the staff thinks if its loud, the gym will seem more fun in some way. Look at all the members who listen to their own music. If they are not, then they are probably working out with a partner or with a trainer. Definitely missing it on the atmosphere in the gym!!GO FOR A TOUR: Please note:1. No sanitizing stations.2. Their attempt at a cleaning/paper towel stations.3. The unorganized number of plates for the plated machines.4. The cleanliness of the benches.OVERALL: Cant give a solid recommendation. If you plan on joining a health club, then later quitting - this is the one to join since the membership is so affordable. However, on facebook you can read the DIFFICULTY members have with ending their membership. So, when you plan on quitting, give yourself some notice, just to make sure you follow their procedures.24 HOUR FITNESS (8 yrs member): I would only rate them 1 starGOLDS GYM (4 yrs member) : I would rate them 1.5 stars, only because of the # of locations they have.LIFETIME FITNESS (1 yr member): I would rate them 4 stars (but not in my budget).PURE FITNESS: Same as Lifetime. Ive only toured their facility and worked out there once, however I know several people who do workout there and they do love it. But, I believe its one of the most $$$ in town. If you can afford it, do it.
They lied about what the gym would open with. And are refusing to work with people who cannot fit a non 24 hour gym into their schedule. If you promise something like a 24-hour gym with a sauna and then dont deliver on either one of those then the corporation should do something about it not just say tough luck keep paying us.
I thought I cancelled my account a couple of months ago online and was charged $44 yesterday. The website says that online cancellations aren’t available for Dallas locations only and I have a screenshot of this when I spoke to customer service she said the website isn’t updated, also I can’t cancel it over the phone or at the gym it’s self I have to mail a cancelation request in... like actually mail a piece of paper in. I mean what is this 1829. One of the biggest gyms doesn’t have a way for me to cancel my membership and then charges me $40 plus a late fee without giving me any notice or email to tell me that you can’t cancel the Austin location memberships online! What an absolutely terrible company.
I love the gym, the personal trainer, Jeremy, is AMAZING!!!! I am not a fan of the gyms tactics of smoke and mirrors when it comes to signing people up for the persinal trainers. Be 100% transparent about the package deals and when you make deductions from bank accounts and maybe Id sign on the dotted line. Luis is not a very professional employee either. Very crooked and uncompromising.
Ok first things first I loved the gym and was excited to try it. Went in with a friend the sales lady gave us a tour and then asked if we wanted to join. Informed her we were not ready to committ yet due to prior financial events coming up. She then told us that the 8 dollar down and 20 a month deal was only for that day and only for first time visit and if we came back to sign up would have to pay the 150 enrollment fee.(which no where on the website says if you tour and do not sign up that day when you come back to sign up that deal is no longer available) We asked if they offered free trial passes she told us no they didnt. We really wanted to try the gym. She informed us that if we signed up that day and cancelled before the 1st (which was in 2 weeks) we would not get billed the membership fee or annual membership fee. We asked her 5 times before we signed up she said yes she was sure, we could cancel and not get billed. We tried the gym and liked it. But like as stated before wanted to just try it was going twas going to sign up for sure when I got back from my trip. We went to go cancel and was then informed that we had to send it to corporate to cancel and would still get charged for next month. We talked to the manager and informed him that is not what the sales lady told us. He told us we should of read the contract. But the sales lady didnt even let us read it. She had her computer toward her and she told us to sign here this is just agreeing to the monthly charges. It is her job to know every detail on that contract and tell us about it. Then she lied and told us they didnt offer free passes and didnt even inform us about the 30 day cancellation. Was told to write a statement and he would send it to corporate and to follow up with him on thursday. We did but everytime we called or went up there he was not in. Its been five days amd still no phone call or email from him. And the manger basically said in so many words should of read the contract after you signed it and that its our word against hers No she should have not gave us false information!! She lied about everything then its our fault we believed her. Lol this is a joke! I just really wished we would of read all the reviews before signing up because they still are offering that same deal she said was only for that day. And looks like this is not the first time this has happened to someone.
Local manager had no access or control over the membership and asked to call the Houston or Dallas number 877. Waiting 30 minutes to speak to a person over the phone. She hung up on me when I questioned the extra charges and requested to speak to a manager. Called back and unfortunately got the same person after 15 more min on hold. She got my ID and never got back to the call ?!!Anyone is monitoring the phone calls on how your reps address customer? They have no problem signing up customers and adding the credit card information from the local terminal but not address the problems and charges?
Joined in January with the sold idea that it would be 24 hours soon. Which is a lie corporate doesnt see enough volume to do so but cant extend hours to midnight each night if they cant fulfill their own hours they stated . I brought a friend as a guest so we could just get a work out in and see how he liked it for himself . But unfortunately he spent an hour being walked and talked too after we told the sales person we were just going to work out and try it out for himself . The only plus about this place is when they have a 10 for 10 deal special. My friend was literally going to switch gyms and join so we could work out together . And now thats probably not going to happen .
UPDATE: music selection has finally changed, not the same playlist everyday like it was! Im adding another star.Loud, repetitive music ruins an otherwise good gym; local staff is unable to adjust the station / volume (done at corporate in Houton - why?). Also, I go to the gym to get away from TV yet they have 37 tvs with annoying political stations on constantly. Im in front of monitors / TVs all day at work, can I please get a break??? Im there to workout, not watch TV.That being said, great equipment (for the most part), and you cant beat the price.
If you are going to sign up for the personal trainers please understand the agreement first. They had me sign documents but never told me it was a contract that said i had to pay even if i didnt use the service. I used the trainers once and now i am being told i have to pay 1800.00 dollars for a service that i didnt like.
1. Its a long process just to cancel membership. You have to send in a letter just to cancel membership ONE MONTH ADVANCE. its a joke that they cant cancel it online for you. You have to pay the fees for the current month and the next month just to cancel the membership. They trick you and Its sort of a scam.2. The sales people keep on calling and never leave you alone. They are very annoying and pain the butt
Overall okay gym: decent amount of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment.Classes are centered around working hours.Overly crowded, often wait for weight systems.Biggest failing is in staff. Rotating managers, uninformative when asked about programs and contracts.Do not sign with them, 24 Hour Fitness is much better.
FC: Fitness Connection/Freezing ColdThis is a really nice gym, tons of equipment, very clean. Ive been going for about 5 months now since we moved to the area. If I could change anything, it would be the temperature. Ive literally never been in a gym this cold. In order to even break a sweat during my workout I have to wear long pants, long sleeves, and a sweat belt, and even then I still have goosebumps and have even gotten a nosebleed from how cold and dry the air is. And now that the weather is cold outside its basically like working out outside with no wind. They have those BigAss fans inside which are great for airflow(when an area is warm..), but you do not need to have the AC set low and have those on. I havent been sick in two years, and I have had a recurring cold for the past two months. Whats changed in my life? I joined FC.Seriously, for the health of your members, change the temperature of your gym.
Honestly, I love this place. The reason why I signed up was because of the price and also because the sales team was not pushy. They were very straight forward with me and just wanted to listen to what I had to say. I did not feel pressured at all to join. When I was talking to 24 hour fitness, they were really pushy and got me very frustrated that I just wanted to walk out and leave.
Great equipment, but incredibly archaic cancelation policy. Beware, Fitness Connections payment system goes through a management company called Jonas Fitness meaning if you have problems (i.e. double charge, overcharges, etc...) you have to talk to a completely separate entity. It is an incredibly frustrating ordeal just to keep them from stealing your hard earned cash.
Love this place lol who can beat $10down and $10 a month. That like a No Brainer. Nice place I think it has more variety and nicer machines an equipment then most expensive month due gyms. I highly recommend this place super clean. Nice staff. And I never have to deal with worrying about paying the bill every month lol it $10.
Had to cancel, they kept charging fees for a payment they failed to take out on their side saying it was declined. Bank confirmed no payment was even submitted by them and they dinged two accounts for almost a years worth of services. Even then, they kept calling and attempting to take money after it was cancelled. Very shady practices and the staff was really rude and condescending the last time I was in there. Much better options out there.
For the money there is no cleaner gym that has this much equipment, classes and clean locker rooms. I have been a member of fitness connection since 2012 in North Carolina, then moved to Dallas and now Austin. The only thing missing is a pool but then it would cost more so its okay. Check it out!
If I could give zero stars I would. I went in there to sign up for membership but needed to go to the bathroom before I sat down with the guy who was finishing up with another person. They wouldnt allow me to use the restroom since I wasnt yet a member. They just lost out of business and I went to sign up with a gym in the same parking lot that actually ended up being cheaper. It is bad business. Simple as that. No customer service.

2022-05-24I love this gym. Ive been a member since it first opened. Its very clean and the staff is professional, helpful, and friendly. Theres a wide range of equipment and machines. Theres machines Ive never seen before in my 20 years of working out. Theres plenty of room and space between equipment and the sauna is awesome. I dont really ever have to wait for equipment when I go in the odd hours. You get way more than you pay for here.

2022-07-11I went for the one day visit and love it! The guy up front was really friendly and explained where everything was located. I loved it because they had a only womens workout area and a sauna!! The locker rooms were really clean so was the gym.

2022-07-05Great gym. Been member for 5 years. Wasnt crazy about mask ordeal last year. Masks are the most ignorant device . We were created to breathe and not your own Carbon Dioxide. Glad they removed.

2021-12-03I love the many many (quantity and variety) of cardio and strength training machines, free weights, sauna, AND that Fitness Connection keeps up with the cleanliness of all the facilities.I enjoy the personal touch of the gym staff too, from the front desk to the manager. They greet me by name every time Im there, and every once in a while will drop feedback and a supportive or encouraging word.I do appreciate the convenience of having an excellent gym close to my house so I show up - often! ❤

2022-04-24Overall, a really good gym for only 10 bucks a month. Only issue is that there was a machine that was out of service forever only because a screw came undone! I fixed it myself by screwing it back in! Its like really, people????? But whatever, I like the machines, free weights, the sauna, and the 10$ monthly charge. Overall, good deal!

2022-03-10I went to this gym through the pandemic, and they did a stellar job with make sure all the equipment is clean and that it didnt get too crowded . Overall, the machines and free weights are all kept and maintained all you can ask from a good gym.Keep up the good work.

2022-04-03I like this gym a lot. Its huge with lots of options for equipment. I will say, if something breaks down, like a machine or maybe a sink in the bathroom, it takes a while to get it fixed. But thats my only complaint. The staff is also really nice. I go to the Lakeline Drive location and befriended the morning receptionist, Shakir. Weve become fast friends. Every day I bring him a couple of jokes to start out days off with a laugh, and that really helps set me in a good mood for a workout!

2022-04-01It may seem petty but I went in today to cancel my membership and was informed that I had a late fee on my account. I was unaware that my payment for last month was late and only discovered the discrepancy yesterday after this location was closed.I requested to have the late fee waved and was denied. I was then informed that, had I come in the day before, the late fee could have been removed. Why bother telling me I was a day shy of being eligible?I feel like this situation could have been handled much more professionally. Also, It would have been nice to be informed that my payment was late in the first place.I cancelled my membership primarily because this location is not open 24hours and thus it makes it very difficult for me to come in.Now I will never come back. Even if they do go back to being 24 hours.Edit to add: I cancelled on January 17th and on March 1st I discovered they had billed my card AGAIN. When I asked why I was informed my membership was NOT cancelled. I was also informed that there would be no way to refund the March payment as there was no record of my cancellation. I am LIVID.Edit to add AGAIN: It is April 1st and I just got hit with another bill from Fitness connection. I have proof that I cancelled my membership in writing so thankfully they are going to be refunding April this time but SERIOUSLY? I am getting sick and tired of wasting my time and my money on this.

2022-06-26Homeless folks in the area apparently have memberships to get out of the heat and use the shower, had my wallet stolen from the locker room by one of the homes members (I know because we tracked him down and had him arrested) talking to other members it sounds like this is common. Make sure your stuff is locked or on you at all times.

2022-06-09What a great gym. Lots of equipment and new. Cool rooms for workout routines, even a storage womans workout room. Wish there were more places for stretching though.
