Horrible horrible horrible cleanliness and sanitary precautions. I came here and the pillows were stained and dirty as if they hadn’t been washed and the crevice of the bathroom door had mold. I was completely disgusted, 0/10 do NOT book here if coming on base lodging.
The lady at the front desk claimed the filters in the rooms are changed monthly. Management claims twice a year. I stayed here for two months and it took a month to recover from a lung infection brought on by exposure to this. Talking to the senior enlisted, they stated this is the norm and it doesnt get taken care of. I would not have posted a negative rating, but this was the case for several rooms that fellow students stayed in.
Amazingly clean and comfortable, and the staff is friendly. I liked that the cleaning staff was cleaning the room daily. Another thing I liked was that the laundry machines were free of charge, and the laundromat was extremely clean. The gym is a walking distance, and the BX is across the street. A great place to stay.
Service was quick and painless but that’s par for the course. I had to demand a key to the bathroom despite basically dancing all over the place needing to pee. It’s “out of order” for public use according to the sign, but it is hardly that. It’s nicer than the toilet in my shared bathroom unit in the satellite dorm lodging down the road.
Hands down one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Thank god I wasn’t paying out of pocket for this place. $109 a night!? An absolute joke. AC worked a total of 6 days out of the month, I wish I was kidding. Picture yourself sleeping in a humid 85-95 degree room for your stay. Oh and I forgot to mention the bed that’s most likely about 15 years old and on a slope. Absolutely zero clue where these 5 star reviews are coming from, most likely employees. Also heard a rumor that some students are given assignments to leave reviews and are told to mark 5 stars 😂 can’t make this up
Stay away if you can I am using an alternative account for this review but if you are going to be in San Antonio don’t stay here unless you want to wake up with fire ant bites in multiple locations throughout your body. They also didn’t do anything to take care of this so I used my own bug spray and sprayed the parts they were coming from to help mitigate the amounts of them in the room but i was on the first floor and there is a gap in the bottom of door so it is hard to stop them. If you have to stay here bring bug spray and don’t sleep under the covers and good luck.
Worst hotel experience in my life. Imagine somebody charging you 94$ a night and your room is 84 degrees Fahrenheit every night you go to sleep because they cant turn on the ac yet. Staff is incredibly unhelpful. But hey if I want an additional fan on top of the two I already have they got my back there!
Youll never be alone in this hotel room since there are plenty of ants and roaches to keep you company. The shower head was janky and the sink only had cold water. If youre coming here TDY, i dont know if the Inn is better but the lodge is hardly better than sleeping in you car. Oh and my AC unit is so loud that I wake up in the middle of the night to it shaking.
Worst place I have been forced to stay at or risk paying out of pocket to stay in an off base hotel. This place needs to be closed by the board of health. It is absurd that they are charging $109 a night. Top Air Force and DOD leadership need to overhaul the base lodging programs.
Man the amount of roaches and mites running around this room has got to be illegal. Ive been purposely killing them and leaving the bodies on the walls, floors, and furniture, but room service never cleans them. I only did it to see what was being cleaned. Also should mention the smoke detector is infected with a nest, and so is the microwave. You can smell the roaches when you turn on the microwave. Insult to injury, I actually spat out a dead bug while brushing my teeth. One could only imagine what it was doing in my mouth while I slept.
Generally run down and poorly maintained. Upon my arrival I found soiled sheets to include pubic hair, stains, and various insects. Of the 5 days I stayed there I found cockroacheS every single morning, As many as 5 a day. On day 4 I found what was later identified as a earwig on the pillow. The AC was not functioning. There was oily standing water in the bath tub. There is a dehumidifier in the room as they seem to have a signifigant mold problem. Unfortunately the bucket is corroded and taped in place and is just forming a puddle on the floor. When I informed the staff I had these issues they insisted we have it sprayed for bugs, that cant be. When I asked about the AC they said to open the window or leave the door open.Enjoy your stay, but plan on showering at the gym and buying your own bedding. Pictures to follow, Good luck!
Stayed Nov 7-11th for Graduation. The place is dated but it was clean and had plenty of storage and room for two people. It is not the Hilton or any other modern hotel but it was nice to be on base. Our airman liked taking showers and relaxing in the room. Had a reservation at Gateway Inn and got bumped to the Lodge because of last minute military travelers. I was a little nervous but everything turned out well. We had our own private bath and the place is a block from Starbucks, BX and other fast food. I was glad to get good coffee and breakfast every morning right around the corner. I would stay there again just for the convenience of the BX.
The room was very hot and there was no way to lower the temperature, I was informed, except to turn the AC off and open a window. My room smelled like stale cigarettes and all of my belongings that were in the room smelled that way even after I brought them home. The fridge froze everything that I put in it, irregardless of how I lowered or raised the temperature control. Again, the only way to make the fridge less cold was to turn it off and use it as an insulated cooler. The price also was also too high considering it is base lodging. Otherwise, the room was excellent: bedding, shower, cleanliness.
It met the basic needs. I stayed there from a Wednesday night to Monday morning.Pros: Air conditioning let the room get really cold and it came with a fridge and microwave.Cons: Bathtub floor was slimy and the drain was rusted/nasty. I also told the front desk Wednesday night that my cold knob of my shower wasnt working. (You had to pull as you turned to turn it on, and push REALLY hard as you turned to turn it off.) They said they would tell maintenance the next day to fix it. They didnt. I told them Thursday night and a different lady said that it could take a week for a guy to come out. Bummer. I ended up just dealing with it. They have bed bugs too, because I came back home to large, itchy welts on my right arm and the back of my left leg.Other than that, nothing big. If youre expecting something super nice, its not here.
Start off with cockroaches everywhere bed refrigerator dressers. If I wasn’t fighting them the ants where in everything leave a water bottle on the deck 4 min latter covered in ants. Parking sucked always not enough spots per room.A/c was the only thing that worked fantastically.
Nice looking room, but when its a low of 32° out and you dont have heat, thats not okay. And to top if off, I work until midnight, fall asleep by 2 or 3am and 5 hours into my sleep, every day without fail I get woken up by housekeeping even though I have the Do Not Disturb sign on my door. I have also talked to the front desk about this issue, and they told me they would talk to housekeeping staff and resolve this issue. --- Update: they still wake me up every morning.
The worst “lodging” I have ever stayed in. If I could give it no stars I would. There is no air conditioning because of the season. People who come from all over to stay here, absolutely ridiculous. The rooms are not properly cleaned ever! The same dirt and whatever else has been on the floor in carpet for the three months I was here. There was mold in the shower, the shower head is disgusting, and it did not drain. There were ants in the rooms and probably other unknown critters. The sheets and blankets were not changed out once a week like they say (yes management was asked and told about the situation several times). I’d even take the sheets off the bed for housekeeping once a week and they would still place the same sheets and blankets back on the bed. The only thing that was done every time was taking out the garbage and new towels.
I stayed here for a month (not by choice) and it was not very pleasant. The staff was all very nice, and the room seemed to be a decent size. The only problem with the first impression was that the room was awfully hot, and there was no way to turn the heat all the way off. I found the big fan they provided, opened the window and got some cool Texas air in the room. I then discovered a LOT of small ants everywhere. I went down and asked the front desk about the heat and the ants. The AC is apparently only turned on or off when some guy shows up to do so. And the ants... all of the rooms have ants... I dealt with it because I had no other options. I was working overnights, I usually woke up around 2pm every day. I saw my cleaning lady once, she said she would change my sheets the next day... never did. I grabbed some fresh towels once from another cleaning lady. The bed started to hurt my back after sleeping here for so long, its very uncomfortable. It hit almost 90 degrees outside a few days, and I had to sleep with my window closed (because its the middle of the day and there is a training squadron across the street... which is loud) so I woke up in a pool of sweat frequently during my sleep. 90 degrees out + heater turned on = awful sleep. Definitely not the worst hotel Ive been to, but theres no way Id ever pay $60 a night for this. This seems more like a $30 a night hotel. Oh! But you can spend $16 less and have a shared bathroom... although then you may have cockroaches.
Ive been TDY to many locations but the Gateway Lodge may have been one of those stays I would like to forget. The staff was kind and helpful but the facility as well as the rooms were in disrepair. I would rarely have hot water for my showers, there would be constant outside partying and noise at all hours through the week at night, and the air conditioning was stuck on the coldest setting (broken). There were many bugs and I named almost all of them.
The place was clean and reasonably priced but the only thing I didnt like it all was of course it has no breakfast and it turned out it was a cold weekend when we went down there and they have no heat during the fall season. I called the front desk and they told me that it would probably be warm next week but I said that doesnt help now. And they told me to come grab a couple more blankets.
The room in building 7423 Rm 1320 was not clean when I first arrived although the bed was made and clean towels were out. The vanity area was disgusting the bathroom was even more disgusting.. Brought this to the front desk associate. She reassured me she’d let the keeper know the room # in the morning. I later requested cleaning supplies to clean the areas myself they couldn’t find any (explains why it’s so dirty). The front desk associates Very welcoming.. and there’s FREE washers&dryers!
I’d give it a negative star rating if I could. It’s Nov 2018 and my room is freezing. There’s no way to control the ac/heat. There’s no heat in my room and it’s 48 degrees and I have this paper thin comforter and blanket. I now have a cold. The service was good but the accommodations are horrible.
I hate to say it but it was awful an awful experience! Went to a family members graduation with my husband and his mother both of them on oxygen. It was sweltering in the rooms no air conditioning we were told to leave our doors open to cool the room off! No real concern for the handicapped. Staff was polite enough though.
BUGS. Mold. In every room. Stayed for TDY and had to move rooms (even across base) 4 times because was roomed with male suite mates, had mosquitoes, roaches (in the fridge), and ants in EVERY room. A/C doesnt keep up with TX heat and was told the only resolution was to move rooms again. Had to request the shower heads be changed due to mold inside them, and all of my clothes and shoes smelled musty after staying here. Managers I was referred to were on vacation and staff on shift not knowledgeable. Central reservations rude and slow to help. Stay off base.
Not the cleanest hotel and alot of the doors are either broken or jammed. My neighbor kept assuming I was locking HIM out the bathroom when infect it was his door just sticking/jamming. Also my suitmate was a Male, I didnt know the policy on it but was unsure if I should say anything.
I didnt get to stay at the lodge since my reservation was changed to the Inn. I was there space A. If you use Google GOS, keep in mind though that only certain gates to the base are accessible and Google doesnt reflect that. U spent a lot of driving time trying to figure out which gate was actually open. I should have called before since this is common when using GPS.
Absolutly horriffic. 1. The foreign nationals are screaming and running the balconies until roughly midnight and i told the staff and nothing happened. 2. Foreign nationals smoking in rooms, nothing happened. And 3. Ants in the room, and on top of everything the rooms smell, amd the wifi is worse than dial up. Overall worst experience with a lodge in my entire life. Only good thing is its 44 dollars a night, but you share a bathtroom, like thats sanitary.
Convenient to DLI buildings. T.v., DVD,bathroom, closet, nice bed. Unfortunately you dont get to choose your room, and they dont let you change the room if you dont like it.for example if the room on the third floor, or facing a place noisy where alot of activities going on.
Unfortunately, while the rooms are okay for their age, the communication is a complete failure between the employees at the Gateway lodge front desk. They are each nice, but everytime you speak to someone you will get a different answer to the same question. Just talk to the head manager and none of the front desk attendants, that way you might get correct answers the first time.
We originally had reservations at the Gateway Villa for my sons graduation in August 2016, but got bumped to the Gateway Lodge, same accommodations ( private bath, a small queen bed, mini fridge, microwave, single serve coffee pot, tv and wi-fi).We were on the 3rd floor but they did have an elevator at the end of the building we could use. It was clean, the people there were very helpful and friendly. It is not the Ritz but I did not pay for the the Ritz. We had a very enjoyable stay there.
The gateway lodge is fine for the price paid. It does need substantial upgrading. My son and I were switched from a single room to a room with a shared bathroom (military have priority which is fine with me). However, we had issues with the tv the entire time we were there. My son is 2 and having a tv with kids shows is kind of a necessity. We made due with the internet and our tablet. The maintenance crew did show up and replace the cable but that didnt really fix anything. They offered to replace the tv and by that time I was tired and didnt want to go back and forth anymore and again we had the tablet. It sucked but we made the best of it. The tv is really my only complaint.
Made the reservations on JANUARY 19-2016 for my grandsons graduation for FEBUARY 19-2016 after a couple of days was notified by phone that I could no longer have the room we had ,but instead was given a room at gateway lodge told them that I was handicapped, was given a room on second floor, they wouldnt change rooms, but another couple came in ,with the same outlook they didnt like their room either, but was given a different room, they were much younger and healthier than I was, they expected us to use same bath towels because they were saving on water well sorry i dont even use the same towels home, bedsheets werent changed, and beer bottle cap under the bed which tells you floor wasnt vacuumed either,I really feel sorry for my daughter because she paid the hotel bill which included 5 people, overall the graduation ceremony was beautiful and all the events that the AIR FORCE had planned for everyone was exceptional SORRY GATEWAY LODGE CANT EVEN GIVE YOU 1 STAR

2022-04-06This place is a dump!Being forced to stay in a hotel that has no A/C and you have to share a bathroom vs paying the same price off base for so much more is just sad and another forced mistake by our leaders. At least make the rooms cheaper if you’re gonna screw us over.On the bright side I get zero sleep because I get to listen to dogs barking from my sweat box all night. The dresser drawers will not stay closed, and it’s possible this is the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in.They do zero to accommodate you, can’t even keep personal stuff in your room, but they won’t do anything maintain this building.

2022-02-28Was working. Got put up here for the duration. Compared to army barracks, its a big improvement. However it wasnt without faults. I had an ant problem in my room. The AC doesnt work. Luckily you can turn the heat off and the windows do open. Has basic necessities. An uncomfortable bed. Clean sheets and towels. Good enough for government workers I guess.

2022-04-06$97 a night… you’re paying to sweat at night and share bathrooms. Look elsewhere. Cleaning crew was amazing though. If you’re PCSing and have to over stay your 10 days, make sure to give them a memorandum that discounts you before you check out. I showed them the memorandum prior and they acted clueless. I should’ve pressed that matter more, that’s on me. But there is one brought down by AF HQ.

2022-06-22Worst guest house/lodging I have ever visited. Bedsheets are only after 7days, as well as toilet paper. I had to buy my own. When I asked for my bedsheet to be changed because I sweated at night, the room service manager claimed that as long as the bed sheet doesn’t look dirty, they will not change it until it’s 7days old. When I requested for face tissue, room service left me a note that face tissue is only given one time. They hardly clean the bathroom. Very disappointed.

2022-03-06This one star is a -5. So they keep the entire place at 80 degrees get ready to sweat in your sleep. I’ve had ants crawling on me in bed and every surface. Mold all over the place, stained bed sheets. We reported that, they put ant traps by the bed 👌 didn’t help at all. The day my room was cleaned a gift card we had was cleaned out by a random PayPal account. We’re paying 110$ a day for this. There’s cheaper and better places out in town so request a no availability letter before you get there lol.

2022-05-07The gateway lodge was very outdated (The Shining era). The bed was not great. Pack pain relievers to help your back in the morning! At least it was a close place to stay for our sons graduation. Our other son graduates in 3 weeks and already have our booking for Holiday Inn express. Same price.

2022-06-06This is the epitome of JOINT lodging! Air Force pricing and army quality of housing and customer’s support. Take your money somewhere actually at the appropriate government rate.

2022-03-24I unfortunately got put in this “hotel” for my TDY. Might as well stay at the sketchy motel right outside the gate bc you’ll have a better experience there. Weather has been a consistent high 80s and management refuses to turn on our AC so you’re constantly sweating. You’ll get a frequent roach suitemate, black air filters, and broken and stained furniture that takes maintenance WEEKS to get to (still hasn’t been fixed). This place is an absolute disgusting joke for the $100 we spend a night here. DO NO STAY HERE.

2022-01-30Theres AC and heat for sure. But only one at a time. God forbid its below 70 degrees outside because youre getting 80 degree heat at all times. If you book lodging and they want to place you in Gateway Lodge, speak to anyone higher and request literally any other building.

2022-04-12No AC, shared bathroom, dumpy place overall. Not worth $95-110 compared to commercial hotels with ac and breakfast. No contest
