I drive an extra 10 min just to go to this location. The staff is far & beyond the kindest of any Austin-area Golds. I am greeted BY NAME every time I arrive & leave. The staff act like humans (& not overlords) when enforcing mask rules. Vibe is old-school & equipment is pleasantly varied. Anyone into a less frilly, more zen scene needs to check this spot out. Shout out to Roxanne & the other gals who are there midday!
This location is the best golds in austin. Staff is always on point, very professional and always courteous. I usually go in the morning and the girls that work the front desk are so kind and professional. Give those chicks raise 👏. Outstanding lifting environment, clean and sanitary.
I had a membership and I canceled it because I got into med school in a different city. They continued to charge my account for another 6 months. They tried to tell me that I never canceled. So at that time, I told the lady to cancel my membership but she never did. They continued to draw money out of my account for at least 3 more months. I found proof that I canceled 9 months before and had to threaten them with an attorney before they would cancel. And after all that, they still refused to refund me my money. So now I send my patients to LA Fitness instead.
If you are considering a Gold’s Gym membership, CONSIDER ANOTHER GYM!!! Read the fine print in the contract carefully & expect to pay for another 30 days AFTER you cancel your membership. DO NOT SET UP automatic payment using a credit card!Last summer, I had knee surgery. You cannot cancel you membership by phone or email so I hobbled into Ben White location on crutches to fill out their form. When I asked young associate at front desk if my card would be charged again, twice he replied “No” so imagine my surprise when my card was charged again!I went to see Manager Sunny Reese who could see I was on crutches yet told me to read fine print in my contract. She expected me to go back to my surgeon and return back with a written physician’s statement.I filed a dispute through my Capital One credit card & they refunded charges. However, I found a sympathetic manager who also got me a refund. However, “Gold’s Gym” was only noted once on my charge card so I did not realize that my card was credited twice.Over my 3 years of membership, I estimate that I paid approximately $4000+ for dues and personal training, NEVER had a late payment since it was automatically paid by my credit card. Instead of contacting me about this clerical error, Gold’s Gym charged me a mysterious (punitive?) $40.00 charge and sent my account to a COLLECTIONS AGENCY! I have an 832 credit score so this experience has been very stressful for me.I have tried to resolve this issue for more than a month. Gold’s Gym’s “Customer Care” does not accept phone calls only emails. I receive cold, impersonal & unsigned emails from Customer Care. They did not reply to Capital One in writing during the 90 day period so refund Capital One gave me was not put back on my card.I recommend that you choose another gym (YMCA? 24 Hour Fitness?) where management may treat their clients much better with empathy & respect.
Ive been a member for over four years. Its a nice neighborhood gym. When my wife went to China for six months they froze her account and the staff talked to me about making sure the freeze was working. Ive seen guys have seizures and stuff there and the staff is cool-headed and responsive in emergencies. Most of my complaints are with the other gym members not putting stuff away after they use it, doing selfish circuit workouts that involve monopolizing as much equipment as possible, or dragging foam rollers away to completely inexplicable parts of the gym and leaving them there. (Maybe theyre part squirrel?). Anyway, thats not the staffs fault. Ive also met some really nice people at this gym.
Despite taking Precautions, power lifting patrons are allowed to workout without masks if they have a doctors note. A face shield would help mitigate thier exhaled breath from travrling across the whole room. I am very disappointed that we are catering to childish, irresponsible people. The anti discrimination against the diabled protects him from having to do anything and creates a super spreader possibility. If this company truly wants to succeed and open up our city, then why hasnt it done something about this exploited loop hole ? Accomidate him and his disability by having him wear a faceshield. We must remember, these ppl that behave like this do not care about anyone elses well being. And put us all at risk simy for thier comfort.
This place has the worst set up for daycare. Not only do they seem to not care but seem to be full most of the time. We have a family plan yet always seem to have to wait for room. Always see someone having to wait to put their child in. Starting to regret leaving 24 hour fitness for this place. Hopefully the new golds that open will be better. If not, back to 24hiur we go
The Gym was suppose to close at 8PM and they cut the music and lights off at 7:34. I was in a middle of a set on bench and could of easily injured myself. I pay my money on time monthly and expect the employees to work their schedule times. This gym needs to clean up the customer service and get up to par with the other Golds Gym.
Great having a conveniently located 24 hour gym. The staff is extremely friendly and my wife loves their classes. The cardio cinema is a really awesome feature but the movies usually are pretty terrible. Definitely has the resident body builders but most of them are friendly and polite.
During this PANDEMIC you’d think they’d want to fix/refill the hand soap on the restrooms! I let the ladies at the front desk know and all I got was “someone told me already, there’s soap the batteries just aren’t working”. I was just letting them know because one was actually working, just had ran out of soap. Get it together!!
Most of the equipment is useable, but the age is starting to show on most of it. There is a little musty smell as well like you are in an old basement. Also parking sucks at this location. Overall, it isnt the worst place to work out, but I cannot wait until the slaughter location opens.
Find another gym if possible. This gym is consistently overcrowded in the afternoon/evenings, weekend hours are terrible, equipment is often either broken or on the verge of being broken. AC/Vents do not work properly in the free weight area, and the front desk indicates no active effort to fix it.
Ive been coming here for 3 months now. Craig there old manager was very helpful and kind. Now they have a new manager named Justin. He is very impolite and rude. Puts off the Im taking your money vibe. Another employee came up to me that was not wearing his uniform while I was working out after work. I wore Jeans and my work boots. He came up and as loudly as possible said sir I need you to start wearing workout clothing. I understand telling me this when everyone isnt staring but this was way out of line. I politely said okay I didnt know you had a dress code. Disgusting managment and disgusting employees. Take your money elsewhere. Quick update I cancelled my membership and got a confirmation number that it was cancelled. For the past few weeks they have been texting and calling me telling me my payment was declined. Once again having to call and deal with something that should have been delt with on their end. Terrible service. Ill never be going there again.
So I have been working out in my home gym for a few years now, but noticed a few months back I have just really stalled and felt like I needed a push. So i went into Golds and met with the manager Justin. At first I was so intimidated by his physique, I thought to myself he doesnt know what its like to be a busy mom with 4 little boys. I said I wanted to just sign up for a trial period. . He looked at me and said what is a couple of days gonna do for you? You came here to change your life so do it Honestly i think i signed up just to get out of there... But that night i went to get dressed up to go to a nice dinner with my hubby and my dress didnt fit me, I felt devastated. I kept hearing Justins voice ....so I went the next day and have gone every day since. I have lost six inches off my waist, even more than that around my hips area. I went from being able to only walk on the treadmill to being able to run 2 miles. So i just want to say thank you to Justin for pushing me, you are THE BEST at what you do.. I love my new and improved body and I love this gym❤🏋🏊🚴👙❤
If you live in the Austin area you are better off going to Planet Fitness. When I signed up to become a member i was told I would pay a set price, but when it came time to pay I was charged twice what i was told plus taxes. When I went to cancel my membership, I was rudely told i couldnt because I signed a contract and i quote,The only way you can get out of it right now is to die or move to the country. So I continued to pay until my contract was supposed to fulfilled. I called on the exact day and was told the company would take one more months payment. They still took 5 more payments after that even though I had not been to the company in over 9 months. I literally had to become irate with the corporate representative and threaten to take the company to civil court 3 months past my contracts expiration before i could get them to cancel my membership. If it were possible I would give negative 4 stars.
This is one of my least favorite golds because its super basic compared to some of the nicer ones.Theres no pool area or hot tub. Theres not even a cardio cinema. Its a pity that none of the southern golds tend to have theseUpdate: Sauna is now closed which is a big part of the my reason for coming.Cardio equipment is old and not usable for a heavier person. Closes earlier than most other Austin area locations
Just be careful of kids club hours. They will tell you the wrong time on the phone, you can also arrive and no one is staffing it. Happened 4 times. I did email management nothing...no response provided. If you call the front desk they will change the answer on hours. Pretty poor training. Also heat/AC really poor in gym a 1 star
I was so livid when I had a membership that lapsed. I go back and then ask to pay off my old account in order to reactivate it, then they couldnt find my old info. They proceeded to open a new account and everything was fine. I go in one day to work out and pay a past due bal and low and behold im hit with both my new and old membership fees .... give me my ID back and I left forever
Two issues here. First, where did all the classes go? I paid for a membership assuming the classes would remain rather stable, but almost half the classes have went away. Either reduce my membership fee or get more instructors!Second, respond to customer comments. Ive lost count on the number of comments I have left for management and have yet to even receive an acknowledgement. My membership is up next month... Maybe its time to go to lifetime.
This location is not nearly as nice as some of the other locations around town. The equipment is older and the size of the gym is fairly small, which can make finding a machine difficult during peak hours. Would recommend visiting the downtown or Hwy 71 location instead.
BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!!!!Many other people have posted the following reviews from other websites:Golds Gym commits fraud. An employee at Golds Gym FORGED my signatureOn June 20, 2013, I filed a police report. A detective informed that this is not the first report that theyve had against Golds Gym. According to the Better Business Bureau, there have been 396 complaints against this company within the last 12 months (F rating).Bottom line: unethical business practicesUpon enrollment I was informed that you can perform snatch exercises and drop the weight. Like in Olympic style lifting. In addition to that I would be able to train at most Golds gym considering the amount of travel I do.After traveling to Miami I get back to find out that it is against the rules and regulations of the gym I signed up in to drop weights. When I try and cancel their reasoning is: You signed up under a multigym contract and since other gyms offer the equipment to drop weights you cannot cancel your membership because of this.I have attempted several times to resolve the situation diplomatically however after a brief discussion with some associates of mine they are committing fraud by promising one thing and then delivering another and then using unethical business practices to force you into paying it.
I was in the middle of finishing my workout and an employee turned off the music and dimmed the lights. It was only around 7:40 and the gym was supposed to close at 8 pm. I felt rushed and really uncomfortable with finishing my workout, so I left upset and didnt even finish my last set. Another guy complained to the employee and he went back to turn on the lights (but not the music) with no care in the world. Ive been on the fence of switching gyms and this may just be the reason to.
So I canceled membership before the Corona shut done, of course I got billed again then when I called to make sure it was my last time being billed they said the did not receive my cancellation which is funny since I hand delivered it so one of the associates at the gym on William cannon and 35. And instead of just handling the cancellation the person I tlk to was extremely rude and said I never brought it in excuse me I know what I did instead of jus telling me they may have miss places it as well i i had paid for 2 training sessions which they do not tell you that the are non refundable so if ur thinking of joining a gold gym dont go to 24hr fitness or planet fitness gold gym is wack and do not help u when u need it i will never join gold agian.
Dont sign up at golds. When my card was compromised, they showered me with late fees and made that period of time even more difficult than it already was with being robbed and having to update all of my billing and card payment services. They also make canceling very difficult. You have to go in person. You cannot simply cancel online.

2022-07-06I love the gym but the “no contract” is a lie. They say “ no contract” but force you to pay when canceling your “no contract” plan. Don’t lie to customers and force them to on something they are so called not in contract to pay. Then they have the nerve to try to harass and call you like their a credit collection. This is unprofessional and false advertising to customers. I did enjoy this gym but this has really put a bad taste in my mouth.

2022-05-09The mens bathroom (right hand side) has been out of soap for about a month. Maybe moreUpdate: the decline bench has been broke for 5 months. I have asked the front desk multiple times to address it, I have walked with a front desk attendant and pointed the malfunction out, and I have emailed the manager.Still broken. This is ridiculous they should loose their franchise.

2022-03-09Missing equipment; this gym refused to cancel my membership over the phone. I wont be rejoining with this company and leaving this review in hopes that people catch on and this industry policy changesEdit: Im now being harrassed via phone calls and emails because they are no longer receiving automatic payments. I paid for several months that I did not use (no complaint on my part there, I wasnt planning on cancelling yet) and now theyre trying to collect on months AFTER my repeated requests to cancel and to stop calling me.

2022-03-29Love Gold’s Gym, been coming here for four years now. This location has a “hometown feel” as it’s smaller than most of the newer locations. You must be aware however, there is always EXTREMELY LOUD music playing that is riddled with cussing! I am told its a contract agreement with a music company that Golds HQ has picked for all their gyms (its now owned by a German Company). On a high note, GREAT personal trainers too, I recommend Genesis! She also teaches BootCamp which will kick you into high gear. Do it!

2021-06-07Although they stopped requiring and enforcing masks long before vaccines became more widely available, this is a pretty good gym. Be aware that it, like most gyms, can get quite crowded and you’ll probably have to make some compromises with your routine here and there to accommodate this reality. They could maybe benefit from giving up some of the cardio equipment for a few more free weight spaces so that folks aren’t clustered in one end of the gym. It’s also a shame that they’re not 24-hours, although I’m not sure if that was ever the case. I don’t think it’s necessarily worth the price, but it’s definitely satisfactory for what you do get.

2020-09-10Gym staff are friendly and helpful when needed. The hours I tend to visit the gym in the evening are often packed with people, but it is not as overwhelmingly full when compared to other locations in the area. My overall experience at the location is positive, but I do have a few complaints about the availability of adjustable benches, glute ham developer machines, and a decline bench press.

2020-12-18This is an awesome environment, always up to par, its filled with the same clients that gives it that family vibe. Everyone knows each other like Cheers. The front desk crew is always the best I have been to other locations that are not inviting at all as this location. Big shout outs to Denise and Roxanne the morning squad💣💣🔥🔥They can put a smile on your face and make you laugh to where you spit your protein shake out. Love this place second home.
