The menu sounded creative and different. The dishes coming out of the kitchen looked good. But then i got my tacos. The tacos were ok, but the tortillas tasted store bought and there was nothing else. No rice, no beans, not even a garnish. I was a bit disappointed. The tea was very bitter, as if the tea bags were boiled. But the worst was the service. While I wouldnt mind going back for the food, I will stay away because of the service.
Service was slow. I originally ordered rice crab cakes. The server came back about 15 minutes later to say they didnt have crab. I then ordered the lettuce wrap and this is what came out. The egg roll was delicious, but I didnt eat the lettuce wrap. No apologies from the owner either. Just an excuse that there isnt romaine because of E-coli. I prefer iceberg lettuce anyway, but you need the outside leaves for a wrap.
Amarillo is having a bit of a down town revival and this place is killing it! Hip location and decore that whole fit right in Brooklyn NY or silver lake in Los Angeles. Food is damn fine and innovative kinda like a cross between Vietnamese/Thai mixed with traditional pub fare. GET THE CATFISH. Its panko breaded and just delicious. Perfect place for pre or post sod poodles game! My only complaint is that its in Amarillo Texas instead of my home town of Los Angeles.
Food is great I been there a few times and the only problem is time, the waitress is super nice but she is always running like a chicken without a head. The restaurant is so understaff that food usually takes like 40 min to come out. Now as far as the food is concerned, it is great a definitely a must if you have the time. If you are going for lunch break avoid at all cost.
Great spot with great fresh tasting Asian food. I would recommend they develop a drink menu, would make ordering drinks easier. But the dri KS are good, food is great, service is great, prices are outstanding, oh & the building is beautiful inside. Really cool! Highly recommend!
Love the food here, however with that being said the waitstaff always looks lost. Last visit there was probably a total of 3 tables in the whole place, we arrived with a group of 5 and they didnt even greet or say a word to us for about 10 minutes. On phone in the corner and laughing together. Once we realized the story on the phone was more important than greeting us we stood up and proceeded to leave. Waitress yells out to us, someone will be right with you, I think! I understand bad days happen but this is about the 3rd time with similar results. We love the food here. But theres way too many amazing placesthat will give great service to choose from in Amarillo to settle for this.
Alright, so I wasnt a believer at first. But let me tell you, this is some REALLY good food. Appetizers? Yeah. get the Wontons. Your mouth will not be upset. They take some time, being made from scratch and all. But wow they are good. The Korean BBQ tacos are a thing of beauty. Would travel back just to take my wife here.
WOW!!! The food is amazing! The best egg rolls Ive ever had!! And the lettuce wraps were awesome! I got the ck pad Thai and it was awesome and hubby got the pork chops which were equally as good. Lots of food for the price as well. And our server, Condra, was terrific!!! I would HIGHLY recommend!!!!
Used to love this place but in the last year it has gone way down. Service has slowly gotten worse. They have always taken a long time to get food to your table but even that has gotten worse. The kicker is they always seem to be out of things. Even if you get there before the dinner crowd they are still out of certain foods. Quality of food has gone way down too. Sad to say I wont go back
Unique and quaint, yet classy. 5 star food and service! We all finished everything on our plates. Atmosphere is perfect for socializing. It is not too noisy at all. Can hardly believe they have been there for 7 years. It was truly a great experience. Come check out this hidden gem.
We decided to try this restaurant last weekend. What a surprise! It was 8:30 and they were not busy. We ordered the crabby patty which is soft shell crab in a brioche bun with Asian slaw. Also ordered catfish filets in a tempura batter. Both came with seasoned fries. It all tasted wonderful. We cant wait to go back to try the Asian fare. The waitress was not attentive, we had to go ask for drink refills and ketchup. We had to keep asking for drink refills. There were only 9 clients in the restaurant including us 3. It is in downtown Amarillo so parking is a bit of a nuisance.
I ate here in August with a coworker and it was so good! I finally got around to taking my husband tonight and it was awful. Seriously, I loved the kimchi fries and ordered them again tonight. They didnt look or taste even close to what I got last time. The place was disorganized and dirty. Stacks of dishes and other stuff in the dining room, the kitchen was an absolute wreck, and the staff was just wandering with no focus. Our waitress was resigned and forgot part of our order. The food was greasy and over sauced. Im sorry its gone downhill so fast.
The food was excellent. The experience/service was questionable.Chair and table were both leaners. Was able to straighten the chair with some cardboard trash laying on the floor. The remaing trash next to the table was not enough to prop up the table. From out of state, and was surprised to see smoking allowed. We went on a Saturday night, the room was just over a quarter full. Drinks arrived quickly and we ordered kimchi fries for the appetizer, Thai Asada, and chicken fried rice for the entree. It took around 20 minutes for the appetizer, as we noticed other tables getting uncomfortable waiting for drinks. The entrees took another 20 minutes. No water refills. Not the service I expected on a Saturday with less than half the restaurant filled. The waitress did recommend the Asada. All of the dishes we had were great if you have the patience both in time and service.
They have the best beef jerky & sticky rice... what makes it so good is the fish sauce so make sure to ask for that with it. Its a great place to go at any time. They are open until 1am. Its family owned and I dont know why it hasnt become the new spot to go. Its downtown in between bodegas and butlers. Its hometown but still very classy. Make sure to try it the next time you are craving asian food
This place is horrible!!! Service is pretty much not existent. I ordered chicken fried rice and the chicken wasn’t cooked all the way through. My wife ordered the crabby patty and IT CAME WITH ALL OF ITS LEGS AND CLAWS ATTACHED! Also, their “Asian slaw” is really just gross coleslaw. Avoid this place like the plague, will not be coming back.Edit: Forgot the most important part, don’t plan on it being a quick trip and don’t go hungry, expect close to an hour wait time AFTER you order. Oh, and be prepared to watch as other tables that were seated and ordered AFTER you to be served their food first. (We had a table of six, the other two tables had four in their party. I understand that places wait for other members’ food to be ready before serving the rest, but come on, two more people in our party compared to the others.)
Soooo much potential. The owners have a beautiful concept, exceptional food, and a nice wine selection. Presence isn’t enough though. Should they advertise to the upscale, clean up the slightly noticeable odor of old alcohol, and hire/train elite servers, they will be Amarillo’s go-to after work. They have all the ingredients to be superior.
It was our first visit here, and we got started with the waitress telling us shed put their food up against anybody. And you know what? She was right. Even with her setting the expectations high, they delivered. The drunken noodles with beef are the best noodle dish I have ever had. Seriously. Go there.
Manager tried to slip in a service charge. When I asked the reason for it, he gave a shameless & rude explanation about point of sale system adding a charge and he is helping his friends company who provides this service.... Is this practice even legal in Texas? .... Food was mediocre :(
I have eaten at the best steak houses....so I thought.... until now. I ordered the ribeye and what I got was a miracle on a plate. I will forever remember and tell all of my friends in all the lands. My wife got the drunken noodles with shrimp. OMG if you skip this place you have missed out on a miracle. But please start with the kimchi fries and sit back and enjoy life pleasure.
The Absolute BEST!!!!!!! this place the BEST FOOD EVER.... NOBODY can touch the QUALITY, TASTE AND TEXTURE of the food served here!!!!! The staff are always attentive and professional.... The prices are unbeatable for the quality of food you experience here....this is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Amarillo.....and Ive tried nearly EVERY restaurant in town!!!!!
Excellent find. We had the butter chicken sandwich, Jerkey with rice, brisket sliders and al pastor tacos. Everything was pretty great. Could have been less slaw on the sliders, but that is a minor complaint. The sauce on the jerkey might catch you with the heat, but was great.
All though the food was good, The service we received was not. Took five minutes before anyone came to the table to get our drinks. Once we had given our drinks and ordered our appetizer, we were made to wait even longer for a simple glass of water. Our appetizer was already up and we still have no water. Our food was removed from the heat and sat on the counter for three minutes, while she got our drinks. Half way through eating our fries we have decided on a dinner plate we wanted. For 5 minutes I tired to get her attention, even rasing my hand like a 1 St grader. We left the $9 on the table to cover the appetizer and walked out if the door.Did not even noticed we were getting up to leaveing.
First time here! Hubby and I came today ...loved it...I had sweet n sour chicken , fried rice...chicken was tender and very tasty....fried rice very delicious....jalapeno popper wontons were awesome!!! David, the owner is so nice...great great service! We will be back again and again!
If you are looking for some chinese/thai mix food in down town Amarillo, this is the place to go! It is in my opinion the best place to get a quick bite to eat for this type of food. The staff is friendly and always helpful, the sweet tea is made to perfection, and their fried rice and sweet and sour chicken is on point. I usually stop here for lunch during the school year.
The kimchi fries was amazing the jalapeno cheese wontons were perfect the rib eye steak was so tender I could almost cut it with a fork the Korean ribs had a little spice and tender the short rib bacon cheeseburger was excellent the sea bass was most excellent the beef fried rice was average the spicy beef had just the right amount of heat and the server was friendly with good service
This rating is given because I have tried for 3 different times to eat here ---it has never been open although their hours are posted on the door ,but doors are locked . The phone will not be answered and there is no recording to tell you what is going on . There is no menu on their web site so I give this a definite thumbs down ---Gerry

2022-03-02Wow, just wow.I was a little hesitant with Gooneys. Asian Fusion, sports bar-ish premises, but the food is just outstanding. Having travelled extensively in the far East, each dish brought back memories, and easily felt like authentic Asian dishes.Brooke was the most hard working, friendly, and happy wait staff who serviced the whole restaurant single handedly, with everyone kept happy and fed.Bar far, the best restaurant we have visited in Amarillo in the last three days.

2022-01-30The food is absolutely awesome. A lot of the critiques on here talks about the long wait for the food. But, there are only two waitresses for the entire place. Those two girls never stopped moving and never lost their smiles and good attitudes. If youre wanting something quick dont go. If you want some great food. I highly recommend it.

2021-02-20Our family of 5 loves this place! Love the location and the atmosphere. This is a great place for an Asian fusion food fix! The staff is okay.We always get the Chicken pad thai, pork chops, steak tacos, and the egg rolls with some variance in the appetizer department. Please please try the pork chops. Best in Amarillo! The kiddos typically get the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. For appetizers we have had the wontons, kimchi fries, egg rolls, and the beef jerky sticky rice. One of the best micheladas Ive ever had here Amarillo, came from this place. Will definitely be back.

2022-05-19Portion size for price was small. Food was a 3 of 5 for flavor and presentation while server was a 1 of 5. Would not go back just because of service.

2022-01-11Similar to Ty’s post, we had the same experience. Great and tasty food but the service leaves a lot to be desired. There were 2 other tables and a couple at the bar. 5 minutes before the first visit to our table and about 40 minutes for our food to arrive. One should not have the time to drink 3 beers before their food arrives.

2020-12-07Them kimche fries are worth the trip alone, best flavored wontons in the city imo, my wife enjoyed the butter chicken sandwich and my son raved about the drunken noodles, plus, they have a bar and some specialty cocktails, very authentic and chef inspired menu, well be back soon
