When going to Guitar Resurrection, its a little strange to get to (if going north on Lamar, you must pass and do a turn-around to legally be able to enter their street). However, I will say it is definitely worth it. My brother has purchased a beautiful guitar there, I have had my guitar work done there (and unlike other places, they gave me the pros and cons of what I was planning to do—not just trying to sell a service), and purchased various items, and I believe I was treated so well that I recommend this place to my friends and I will definitely return.
This is a really great guitar shop. In fact, its my new go-to. The guys there are very friendly and helped me select right guitar. They were informative and knowledgeable. Guitar Resurrection also has a very good selection of products from which to choose, in my opinion. Im really glad I found this place!
Jim the owner is friendly and very knowledgeable. They have pro gear and are a locally owned business not a big box so they actually have service.Want to say thanks to Jim for spending so much time to help me decide on a new Furch acoustic.Furch is a cut above.Again thanks Jim I’ll be back and will recommend you guys thanks Cory
Great service, super friendly. Not saying youre get your guitar back in ONE DAY, but mine was :) Picked it up and went right to a show. New pickups and wiring and she sounded great. Ill bring more guitars here.IMPORTANT: this place has no signage on the outside. I was worried I was at the wrong place. But when you come in and see $3000+ guitars on the wall, you know youre at a good place. If you love guitars and have any money, be careful. They have TONS of shiny toys and priced reasonably.
The guitar store Austin deserves!! These guys are great. Ive bought two guitars here and they always seem to have what Im looking for. Great prices on used. Unique new boutique products you cant find anywhere else. Who could ask for more in a time when a lot local music shops are closing their doors? I highly recommend if you havent checked them out go now!
I emailed the guys at the store about my interest in an amp they stock. They were fast at replying to my request and I ended up purchasing the amp and having my daughter pick it up for me since she lives in Austin and I live 200 miles away. I never met the guys, but my daughter said the store was immaculate and they were really helpful to her. I cant wait to shop there in person on my next trip to Austin.
There is a big difference between guitars I have bought here and guitars I have bought elsewhere. The guitars I have bought at Guitar Resurrection have always been set up correctly and just play better. The first guitar I bought at Guitar Resurrection was a PRS Custom 24. It must have taken me four trips, 10 days and over three hours to make up my mind. There was never any pressure or sales pitch, just good honest advice.I was back last week to buy myself a birthday present. Again I made 3 trips or more and spent hours talking with the folks at Guitar Resurrection trying to pick the guitar that was just right for me. They must have showed me and let me play every Fender Custom Shop Telecaster they had, twice. I ended up with a Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt by Jason Smith. It is now my favorite. They even took a Les Paul I no longer play in on trade and gave me more than I expected.I have been in this store no less than 12 times in the last year. Most times I leave with nothing more than advice. I buy some vintage guitars and these folks are a great resource. When I do buy a used guitar I bring it to Guitar Resurrection to get it set up and restrung. Some of the other stores let kids play anything they can reach. Some of them will even take a return and put it back out as new. When I buy a brand new guitar I want it to be new. I see lots of people in this store that look to be professional musicians. What I dont see are kids beating on guitars that I might consider buying so loudly I cant think. That is another store down the street.I love guitars and locally owned businesses. Add outstanding customer service, throw in some of the most knowledgeable guitar people there are in Austin and I just cant stay away. Ive lost track of ow many guitars I have bought here but Im sure its at least 4 in the last year.
The staff at Guitar Resurrection are friendly and knowledgeable. The store has a fantastic product line, and the guys down there have always been very helpful answering my questions and pointing me in the perfect direction for purchasing what I need to shape the sound I want.
I recently went Into browse the selection, which I must admit is amazing, however the way I was treated left a very bad taste in my mouth. It is a small store but the people working there hawk over you like you going to destroy things. Truly the most uncomfortable experience Ive had in a guitar store.
I was waiting for them to open in the morning, a man pulled up and asked me to leave like they thought I was just loitering in their parking lot for some reason and told me I needed to “move along” and refused to listen to me when I tried to tell him what I was there for. I work across the street and wanted to support a local business, but I have no idea how they get and keep customers if that’s how they treat people waiting outside their shop.

2022-06-22Want in to check out a new bass amp and figured I would go support a local spot. The place has some great looking guitars but it felt like one of those music store you would go into as a child trying to rent a clarinet or something. They didn’t let me pick which bass to play through the amp and they were looking over me a lot like I was a child.

2022-05-11Guitar Rez is an institution in Austin. Incredible range or guitars and amps, many of which you wont find at other stores. Best place to hang out and talk gear, music. Theres a group of regular customers that stop by most Saturdays - always fun to catch up. Ive found (too) many good deals here on PRS, Santa Cruz, and Gibson and Fender Custom Shop guitars. Definitely check out the used gear - all top notch and usually priced below what youll see on Reverb.

2022-01-20Just completed a layaway purchase for a used Gibson J185 working with Jim at Guitar Resurrection and my experience was perfect as usual. This is the fourth guitar I’ve purchased from him in the past five years and there’s a reason I keep coming back. This shop is comfortable and unpretentious - with a far more friendly, consultative approach than the usual Austin music store experience. He was patient with me throughout - in evaluating the instrument, the layaway process, selecting the right pickup, etc. Proud to be a repeat customer and recommend Jim and Guitar Rez to anyone in the market for anything guitar related.

2021-08-12Awesome, everything a guitar player could ever want. Really amazing customer service. Great prices and no massive Ego like the employees at Guitar center have. I will shop at Guitar Resurrection from now on.

2022-04-23Drove 45 minutes to get there. As soon as I walked in was asked if I’m vaccinated. I said no and was asked to leave. At the time of writing this review mask mandates have been over in this city for over a year.

2020-10-27This store has some amazing and beautiful guitars. As far as I know of, this store has the largest variety of PRS guitars in Austin. They also have many other brands (used and new) with a focus on exceptional quality. Great stock selection of high end guitars.
