Great place to shop at to find reasonable-priced books. I have been buying at Half Priced Books since the early 70s. You never know what out of print books you will find. One thing I dont like is that they have stopped breaking up history books into specific time periods like they used to. For instance, I like to look for books on the Old West and Half Price used to put these books in a specific area in the American History section. Now, theyre all mixed up with the rest of the books on American History. This wastes alot of my time and sometimes I get frustrated and leave. I have pointed out this problem to different employees, but the issue still persists. Im not sure if this is happening in other subject-matters sections in the store. Overall, I still love this store.
I always like half priced books. This one generally has a fair number of board games compared to others in the area. Always worth dropping in to see what they have and when Ive been looking for something, they have always been helpful and looked things up and made phone calls to reserve things for me. Thanks guys.

Location was good and the store was clean. Good selection of books and activities. I didnt like that there were 2 people at the register and they didnt greet my family and I. But they greeted the next 3 customers that walked in after us? I mean I dont want to jump to assuming it was because of how we looked? Anyways, found a good book and the person checking us out was nice enough. Maybe work on service.
Fantastic used bookstore with a very friendly staff. Number of locations throughout the Austin area and Ive always received great service. The Anderson Mill location is a good size store and you can always find something interesting.
I typically find something to buy. The BIPOC section could use a lot of help. Also the medical and herbal section could use a bit of assistance. Staff is nice but the selection of used reference books could also use more inventory.
All Half Price Bookstores are great and have the best staff.We loved this local one and wanted to give it a shoutout for its support and love during the pandemic.They remained courteous and good-natured throughout.Big shoutout to all you guys do, especially for kiddos!

Great place to find excellent quality used books at literally throwaway prices... much cheaper than Amazon used books collection. The staff is super helpful in finding selections and reserving in other locations. Must visit.
My wife loves this place, she loves Paulo Cohelo and she have found a lot of his books here. This is a very good way to protect the trees, reusing books others no longer need is a way to avoid buying new ones.
The prices that they offer for your used books are insulting and nothing short of ludicrous.In the future, Ill donate my used books to my local library and take the tax write-off.Ill never set foot in Half Price Books again - what a joke ...
Great place to find books! Prices could be better, but its still worth it and you still can find great priced stuff every time.They have a good seectiom of Philosophy books and theres constantly new book additions in all segments.

I love this bookstore. I often find myself lost in the aisles and buying books that I never intended to. Its the cleanest and biggest half price books Ive ever been to as well.
Every time I go here I find something good and at great prices. Its bright, well laid out, and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. For Christmas, I was able to get books and puzzles that my nephews loved.

Always cheap, always organized and always friendly. My favorite book store! Tip: sign up for their emails, you get great discounts are notified of events.Sometimes I come here for dates, we set out to find something we both dig. Sometimes its a new record and others its books we both enjoy. They even have good puzzles, fun board games and tarot decks. I could spend a whole day here

This is one of my favorite book stores. Just about any book you could want, at half price or less. Not only books, the store has multiple media such as movies and records, with games, puzzles and toys.The staff here are very helpful and friendly. It is a real joy to shop here. Right on the corner of 183 Hwy and Anderson Mill Rd. it is quite easy to access from any direction. If you are a book lover, this is the place for you.
They took all of our books all of our records all are DVDs. Could have given us a little bit more money for everything but it was okay.
I’m a huge fan of half price books to begin with. It’s affordable and they always have a great selection of books, board games, movies, music and more. It’s clean and organized like most locations I’ve been to. However, the service at this location is amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and every single time I’ve come in, a staff member has either recommended a book to me based on what I bought, or talked about how much they love the book/books I’m buying. You can tell that their staff really does have a passion for literature. I come here often and will continue to do so!

This place is a book lovers dream! There are books and games for all ages and all genres, a lot of cute and fun accessories, and even music/movies/video games! I walked out with two books, a calendar, a enamel pin, and store brand tote for less then $15! Would definitely recommend to anyone I talk to.Also noted, they are talking great care during this pandemic to ensure the staff and customers are starting safe and following state/county guidelines!
This store is very well maintained and is very well stocked if you’re looking to buy books. I was able to buy everything I looked for. They also have an excellent variation of collectible items such as computer games, records, camera and books. I tried to sell books and because they are so well stocked I ended up taking a lot away but definitely a store worth checking out. Staff here were also super friendly
I went to sell 3 boxes of books. Paperbacks mostly. Theyd been read once, and put on a shelf. They were in way better condition than 90% of the books on their shelves. I was told they werent in that great of condition. Huh? Most looked brand new? I was offered $4.00 and some change. I will never set foot in this half price location again. Im currently unemployed and even told them that. Take it or leave it is what the girl said as she gave me her best fake smile.
Wednesday at 1pm is not a day or time I would think Half Price Books would be busy.. but they were. Even though the store had around 30 customers shopping, the staff was level headed, polite and extremely helpful. This location has such a great inventory. Books, movies, video games, music and more. If you want to expand your collection, read a classic or just browse, this is the Half Price Books Id suggest. Thanks for the great service.

They were incredibly nice and helped us look for a book. When they didnt have it, they looked on their database and had it shipped to the store for us. Great service. Can not wait to shop there again.
Didnt see the book I was looking for so I went to the desk to ask about it. She agreed that they didnt have it. We had a nice discussion about the availability of the book and she ended up giving me a number to look for. She was very helpful and friendly and I was able to find out the the book Im looking for is a novello, so not too disappointed that I couldnt find it.

Extremely friendly staff every time I visit here. Their selection of books, games, records, cds, dvds and gifts is fantastic. Its easy to spend hours here. The prices are pretty reasonable. Ive sold books here before and they are pretty quick when reviewing them and making an offer. I wish they offered more for the books they buy but it is what it is. I will continue to visit and buy my books here regularly.
There werent a ton o book selections preferable to me but there is a huge selection and perfectly organized and I found this gym 😎

You can find just about any book you want here! I could spend hours browsing through the store and why buy brand new when you can buy used nearly new books without markings at such a discount. Ive bought and sold books here when I choose to get a physical copy vs ebook. The staff is helpful and know their stuff at whichever location I go to but this one is more convenient to me so I go here. If they dont have the book in-store they will order it for you to be delivered to your house. Friendly and informative is my words for HPBs.
Half Price Books is wonderful. Ive always loved going there for books. However, for some reason I always overlooked the fact that they had music. My oversight for sure their prices are unbeatable.

Love half-price books. I wish all of them were as big as the flag ship store in Dallas. This one shouldnt be allowed the name. theyre nothing like how half Price books employees are supposed to be they know nothing and are incredibly insulting with their offers because of that fact. I wished half Price books would conduct a quality control of their personnel and theyre training services.

Lots of non-books featured the last time I visited; there were fewer books that were newer titles and/or best sellers. It may not be a function of the store, it might be a function of people buying fewer books to resell, but any title or author I was looking for was not there. There was a lot of other stuff like keychains and reading glasses and puzzles and gift items that were available and are pretty cool.
Does not allow concealed or open handguns. 30.06 and 30.07 posted on front door.I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Seriously the best place to find books at a cheap price. The amount of times this place has saved me in finding a required book for English is ridiculous. Their collection of older console games and enormous CD rack is a nice plus as well.
Huge selection of really great priced books. Bought 5 books, all for under $15, that I usually see for 30-40 elsewhere.
Good selection for a smaller store. A little crowded usually as it seems to be a favorite spot with neighborhood locals. Staff members are always friendly.

Call the head to make sure they had my book they did they saved it for me called before they even open they answered the book Im still reading through it but has all of its Pages no writing in it Im very happy with my experience I strongly suggest interacting with this amazing bookstore
Not happy with last visit to the south Lamar location. The store clerk thought he was the mask police and threatened to kick me out of the store because I wasnt wearing my mask properly! How rude! I remember a time when the customers were always right. I feel sorry for that dude living scared all the time. Not going back there for some time.
Thank God stores like this still exist. Amazing selection of used books. Prices are not great but way cheaper than new. Id like to see a few more places to sit at this location.

If you are selling books or DVDs to HPB , do not expect to make any money on them🤣😂I took at least 25 books and 10 to 15 DVDs and was paid 11.00.
We went searching for childrens books in Spanish. There wasnt much to choose from, but in general childrens books in languages other than English are harder to find in brick-and-mortar stores so its not surprising that theyre even harder to find in a used book store. We found a couple of good ones.
This is one of my happy places. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and their selection is awesome. Also, theyre networked with each other, so if the title youre looking for isnt at the location youre visiting, they can find it at other stores and get it for you.

Called the store regarding a book... the initial guy was very nice and courteous... placed me on hold... a female with a poor and sarcastic attitude got on it....... if your not happy with your job... please move on!!
I love this place. You never know what you will end up getting which is the beauty of a used book store. The also sell used comics and records as well. If you are looking for a specific book the staff at the register can check the store and the entire chains inventory to see if they have it in stock. Never had any problems with employees and almost always end up leaving with something in my hand that I wasnt originally intending on buying

Not constant on the staff. Some or helpful some are just clerking. Love the store. They used to be a lot better and buying books. The other day I had a big box. I saw several other people there with books everyone was getting the highest they gave was $2.00. Wow. You have to ask for help and they do not really care if you find anything or not. You almost feel like your bothering them.

Now if you are looking to sell your books get ready for super lowball offers.if you dont mind getting $0.10 to $0.50 for a book you paid $18 + this is your place. Otherwise I just donate the books for the prizes tax write off.

Great place to find some deals. It takes a while to sell books back and you have to stay in the store which is annoying if they have a few people in front. Last time I was there I had to stay for 90 minutes. I like books but I was definitely ready to leave when they were done. I have noticed that the selection of books varies from store to store and they can look up and see if another store has what you are looking for, which is nice.

Great customer service! My grandson needed a book for English reading in school but this location didnt have it so she called around and found it at another Half Price books, had them hold it for me and I was able to get it the same day.

I have sold a few books over the years, but it is definitely not a revenue streem. The staff is always friendly and they work hard to find an answer to my questions. There have been times where I have called them looking for a specific book and the customer service was great. Thanks for being in the community. And thanks to the staff for being patient with me, even when Ive been there until closing. My favorite late night hangout.
Store was fine but was unable to find what I was looking for. Store personnel was too busy to help or ask questions.
The only downside to this visit was the amount of small paper trash and leaves on the floor. The shopping experience was good. We will definitely return.
Its defeating..to go in with oodles of books..and come out with barely enough cash to cover the gas it took to drive there! But..when I need a book..they always have it..far cheaper than buying full price!

Lots of good books, but still seem expensive to me. I looked at the board games, and realized I could get new ones on Amazon for almost the same price. I probably would have come back to look again in the future, but since they have a 30.06 sign up, I will not.
Lots of 2nd hand books & DVDs. They pay almost nothing to buy your stuff & too often charge too much for it. Often a worthwhile way to spend 20-30 minutes.
Anyway yeah I mean I really would like to ask the folks dowtown at the n. lamar location what they think my copy of The Autobiography of Andy Warhol (with a self-portrait of ol Andy composed in the medium of crayon on the last blank page in said volume) might be worth. I thought they might know the best b/c thats where I found it-just sittin right out on the old shelf. Regretfully though, it turns out that Im not allowed back into that location for however much longer because someone stole my glasses there. I guess only time will tell. The staff at the buy counter were very kind to me when I came in with a rabble-causing toddler and were able to process my offer quickly, even though there was a lot of traffic that day, which was very appreciated. Nice clean store. Usually I expect to get low offers at H.P.B., but got more $ than expected on this visit.
Its a decently sized bookstore with decent pricing. They will also take your books for small cash.

Half Price is an amazing place for a wide variety of cheap books in good condition. Of course they sell new copies as well, but still the store sells them at pretty low prices. The staff is honestly so kind there, you can tell they love the books and the customers! As well, there the selection is quite unique as they have an antique books section which you dont see in every book store as well as their used and new books.

Also those looking to make a quick buck with little hassle should be fine with coming here. Granted its not much but it definitely takes the stress away from actively searching for a buyer. But you must understand that they must make money as well.

2022-05-31Its New to me. Some Ray Lamontagne, Robert Johnson, and King Koopa. Just a couple more dollars than what Goodwill is charging. They also have hard to find $h!tuff. Oh, and books too

2022-07-25If you’re looking for something specific, the staff is always willing to look it up for you and show you where the item is located if it’s in stock, or tell you if they have it at another location. If you love to get movies, this is also a great place to find what you’re looking for. We go in half price books to “just look” or to find a specific item, and usually end up leaving with $100 worth of items. But honestly we’ll worth it. And their prices are unbeatable in my opinion

2022-07-17$0.50 is what I got as an offer, for 9 DVDs, and an official annotated screenplay. All good condition. If I had gotten 1/10th of what you were going to sell them for, and I looked at how much you were gonna sell the DVD for, I wouldve gotten more than 50 cents. I accepted because I was nice, but yall abused my kindness. Dont do other people wrong, like I know you have before.

2022-09-02Great place to find affordable, gently used books. Theyve got new books, too. We really enjoy shopping here, havent come across any of their locations that werent great.

2022-04-09Nice selection in this big store. I didnt have a very friendly interaction with the person who checked me out [cashier GBan057]. I let another staff member know. I understand people are more crabby than usual, but I did not have a nice checkout experience. Other than that rude hiccup. Overall nice place.
