We have taken our dogs here for several years and all the staff from the doctors to the vet techs to the front desk are friendly and helpful. The staff is very attentive to your pet while they are there and they also have a nice touch with follow up phone calls after they come in to have anything done like vaccinations or any procedures to see how they are doing. They recently added a text reminder service for appointments which is great to help you keep track of your appointments.
This place is AMAZING!!! It is often confused with other vets in the area and has recently changed their name to Animal House. My dogs are terrified of any vet clinic but not this one. The staff is amazing and made our dogs feel safe and comfortable. They took the time to really get to know my dog and do a very thorough exam. The doctor is very understanding and worked with out financial needs. This is the only vet I will ever need! Both of our dogs had major issues within 2 weeks of each other and the doctor went above and beyond to help us.
I am in the animal behavior industry and am always looking for good vets for not only me, but my clients. Ive met quite a few good ones, and some not so good. In my opinion, Dr. Peterein is the best Ive ever met! I always look for alternative methods and she certainly delivers! I am totally on the same page with her as far as effective holistic medicine! Her knowledge is vast and the fact that she continues her education and is passionate about learning more and more is also a plus! I trust her with my pets 100% and drive over 45 mins. to take them there. I am so very lucky to have found her, quite by accident!
We had such a great experience with Dr. Peterein and staff when our Maltipoo was injured a few years ago. So we brought our senior cat in because we know Dr. Peterein is knowledged and truly cares about our pets. I love that I always learn something new when I bring my pets in to see her and her staff. I will not trust anyone else with my furry guys. She is truly the best around!
I have been a customer of this clinic for years and sadly felt it was from the convenience of location, rather than good veterinary care. Dr Peterin has rotated vets in her clinic for years, and any good service I felt I received was from those short term doctors, not Dr Peterin herself. Dr. Peterin is continually leaving the clinic for training seminars and her whole holistic approach to veterinary care has missed the mark greatly in helping my animals get better. This clinic is outrageously expensive and after taking numerous unnecessary tests, it seems that she inevitably refers out to other doctors in the end.Her staff is constantly changing and the only one person that did work professionally and consistently throughout the years, and in retrospect, was the only reason I continued to go to this clinic / Dr Peterin finally let go. The worst move she ever made. When asking this Dr for my records, because a thoughtful decision was made by myself to find a more compassion and all around more suitable vet, Dr Peterin states..’ You will have to pay $25.00 per copy if you want them.’ This aggressive tone toward a long term client, not allowing someone to freely have the choice to change doctors without the punitive act of demanding they pay $25.00 per COPY was a true display of her core character. The most disturbing aspect of her position as a vet, is her complete lack of compassion with both owners and animal itself when your pet is dying. My husband was unbelievably shocked with her heartless tone when she had to ‘ gather up her euthanasia materials as it was getting late and It would take time to do all this ‘...How dare any vet make you feel that you are putting them out if your animal happens to die at closing time...This doctor showed no care for the love we had for our animal, and the pain that accompanies the realization that we had to make the hardest decision to stop their suffering.Taking my pet to this clinic to die in such a cold and uncaring environment has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I had to ask Dr Peterin to please turn down the loud music in the back office - so my family and I could share the last moments with our beloved animal in some atmosphere of dignity and peace. When I asked her to turn down the music, this doctor slammed the door and showed nothing but disapproval for having asked. It was the most disgusting act from a veterinarian I’ve ever experienced.Again, in retrospect , the only reason I had continued for so long was because of the care of some of the ‘ good male doctors’ she hired along the way. But now that Dr Peterin exclusively works there 4 days a week, and is the only doctor there now, this clinic has dropped exponentially in sound veterinary care.Don’t be fooled with the quiet holistic approach, because the two most important factors that are fundamental to a good veterinarian are 1) are your pets getting better with her assessment and treatment of the problem 2) with what dignity are YOU and YOUR PETS being treated with at the end of their life..This Dr FAILS miserably in the areas that truly count. Please don’t waste your money, time, pets health and end of life in such a cold, incompetent and remorseless environment.Your pets have given you unconditional love and they deserve the best care possible, this is NOT the place. This doctor would be better served going into research or some aspect of work that excludes one on one contact with both pets and their owners. Or selling her clinic to a veterinarian that wants to maintain consistent staff , and offer quality veterinary care with fairness in pricing. This place has been my biggest regret, without question.
We were seeking a vet who offered wholistic care, and Dr. Peterein was the perfect choice for our newly adopted dog, Bond. She provided a complete physical with vaccinations and neutering. She helped us off to a great start with our new family member, and her staff even gave us some training tips. Bond has been so happy and healthy, that we may not be back until vaccinations are due again. You and your pet will definitely feel the love here!
We live in Fort Worth and our eastern/western vet retired. We had been looking for a vet that understood the complexities of eastern medicine. We found two that would only be able to extent the eastern med we were using. Then we found Dr Peterein a vet that is able to apply advanced eastern med along with western med always as an option. Our Yorkie and Boston Terrier are doing well while using the advanced eastern med and improved food that contains more vitamins and minerals. Also, the offices are clean, the receptionist is very friendly and the appointments start on time.Leon and Mary H.
Formerly Harwood Oaks, though their website still says that. Its confusing so I asked their receptionist.Weve been bringing our dog here for 3 years and always have positive experiences. The vet spends plenty of time answering our questions and often sends us with free samples. She also will talk nutrition and behavior so we get a better overall picture of our dogs health.
Not sure about older poor reviews here, since we found both staff and doctor to be very caring with excellent communication in dealing with our 2 dogs. Wed lost our 18 month old puppy last year, within one week after a rabies shot. Dr Peterein and staff, did not discount the idea of vaccinosis as other vets had, but listened and offered to draw titers, and booster as needed. They called test results, and checked on dogs after visits. Yes, it cost more to have titers drawn, and for a thorough holistic exam, that included review of our 4 year olds medical history, but it was worth the care and peace of mind that aligned with our concerns. I highly recommend this group.
The owner/vet is very rude and practically forces you to purchase her holistic products and makes you feel like a stupid and terrible owner if you dont. Our dog has a bad heart murmur and will have seizures and instead of heart medication all she gave him was some cardiac support powder for his food and his seizures continued. We tried a different vet who immediately put him on heart medication and his seizures stopped. He has terrible allergies and will break out in hives and chew and itch until he has open sores all over his body and she refused to give him the cortisone shot he was receiving from the other vet that would clear it right up. Instead she insisted we buy her expensive holistic all natural products, and we spent $400 on products that did not work at all and our dog continued to suffer. They ran the other vet off that was actually helping our dog and now she is your only option. She is very rude and looks down on you if you dont agree with her methods. We have nothing against her products, they simply dont work for our pet and we refuse to keep him with a vet who cant put the animals health and comfort ahead of her pride because she is determined to make everyone follow her philosophy. If thats all shes willing to prescribe they need to advertise that and let you know up front instead of wasting your time and money and making your pet needlessly suffer.
Dont go to this vet!! I spent about thirty minutes in an exam room with my cat to get her vaccinated. Vaccinations didnt happen. She then ranted about how much other vets wanted to vaccinate and how wrong it was. I got my cats nails trimmed and a mat brushed out plus the exam. Also a non prescription medicine for her teeth. I got charged $92 dollars for this when the vet didnt really do anything! I also got a lecture on what foods I should eat thrown in. This vet is a complete waste of time and money! Find a competent veterinarian!
I will no longer take any of my animals here. My dog was treated so badly that she now has a fear of all vets and even just going for a ride in the vehicle because she thinks shes going to the vet. They will do anything and everything to get you to buy things that are not necessary just to get more money out of you. I will take all of my pets to Southlake Animal Hospital from now on, they are wonderful.
Harwood Oaks is a great place for my cat Harvey ! There are Conventional and Holistic Veterinarians on-site so I can choose ...I love the Holistic approach to caring for my furry friend, its a blessing to have found Dr.Peterin! They have top notch vet-techs who are very friendly & experienced with handling and treating animals . I also love the unique variety of cat food , from RAW to Grain Free products which I have yet to find anywhere else . I know when Harvey needs medical attention exactly where to bring him ...Thank God ♡
DONT GO HERE. The people her seem nice but are completely scam artists. They charge you for every little thing and make you feel like your dog needs more than he really does. My dog did not get one of his puppy vaccines and had kennel cough three times, then I called the vet and the rude lady on the phone said, It looks like we made a mistake, he didnt get the bordetella vaccine. Ill have the manager call you and hung up on me. I spent over 800 dollars in vet bills because my dog continued to get sick, all to find out its cause they did not give him one of his shots...The main one that prevents kennel cough! This place has gone downhill since when I first started going there years ago. Its in your pets best interest not to take them here.
A complete money pit. They nickel and dime you to death and are condescending and judgmental. One vet rolled her eyes and made a snide remark to a co-worker when I told her I bought my food online, then she promptly recommended Science Diet as the only way to go. They also have a policy not to approve Rx requests from online retailers and make you come in for them. In 5+ years of going here, I dont think I ever saw the same vet twice, and I never got the impression they were caring or loving to my pets. On top of all this, their vets give contradictory information on everything from food to medicine. Avoid.
Customer service and communication and staff knowledge very poor. They booked an appt. for me on a Saturday for a new puppy visit, since I work during the week. Was then called a few times during the following week with a message that she had a couple of questions.since they didnt answer the phone after my work hours I didnt find out until the Friday before my appt. that they dont DO Holistic exams on Saturdays.( I never asked for a Holistic exam) but was told I had to re schedule for next Wednesday which I couldnt do. After 2 of the staff members couldnt explain the difference of the regular exam and the holistic exam to me, I requested that the dr. herself call me back wanting a justification for the $100. cost difference in appts. They assured me that she would and she never did.Its one thing to have a good dr. but her staff is who will reflect how your overall care and experience will be. I decided to go elsewhere even though I would have to start over with researching a new Vet.
Animal House is very thorough and knowledgeable. I had requested a service that I thought was necessary but was informed that it was quite expensive and given more cost effective means to accomplish our goals. Services are kind of pricey in general, but its convenient and theyve always been able to handle our needs.
In 2003 all 27 Veterinary schools in the US have determined core vaccines last 7 years. For a full set of vaccines for $25 go to Texas Coalition for Animal Protection.Research Zymox products and probiotics. You will be furious about the years long vet treatment of ear and skin problems.Research dog food analysis and dog food advisor to decide for yourself how best to feed your dog.
I appreciate the attention an love given to my cat Leah during my travel. It was the first time that I have to leave Leah for a long time. I called the clinic every three days and always provide me information about my cat. I appreciate this attention very much. Thanks!!
This plays has been my biggest regret ever. Adopting my 2nd dog from a shelter and bringing her here for her free pet exam was going great until it was time to pay I noticed I overpayed in cash , I gave her my entire transaction plus a $50 bill on accident when I told her after I realized she got extremely rude with me and said that I didn’t give her a $50 (deff did) I asked to look at cameras and they got extremely rude once again told me to have a seat , the clerk continued to make dirty looks at us in the waiting room. After showing me footage and stating I can’t prove I gave her a $50 they called the police on me and told them they had a customer who wouldn’t leave and they told me they were calling them to review the video...and remind you this whole time I was being so polite and really wanting her to admit her wrong doings...on that note, don’t waste your time here.
It is unfortunate after years of taking my pets to Harwood Oaks that I have to consider alternative pet care. The reason, simply the continual long term employee turn-over at Harwood Oaks. As in any business, turn-over for any length of time is a indication of an underlying management problem...and what does that mean....unhappy employees results in less than top-notch care which my pets will not have anything less than that. The problems has continued or several years and I have thought this over and over but it has become so noticeable and the atmosphere is so tense....what a shame. Just simply not worth it anymore.
This vet treated my cat for kidney infection in September, filed my cats records under the wrong name, and then when I brought my cat back in again 6 weeks later in DIRE condition, told me that my cat was never seen there and that they thought I HAD THE WRONG VET. The receptionist told me she thought I was confused about which veterinary clinic I had originally taken my cat to. The vet did not remember treating my cat. While my cat was there in dire condition, the receptionist would not admit they had made a clerical error and misfiled my records and invited me to come back in and pick up my cat. Later, when I told them the exact day that I came, they were able to find the misfiled records, but THEN told us that we told them the WRONG NAME. LIKE WE DONT KNOW OUR OWN NAMES.I didnt feel like I should leave my cat where they dont remember treating him, cant find his records, and then accuse me of not knowing where I am or my own name. The cat was dire, we were lucky to get into another vet who said that HOAC should have treated him immediately. Seriously, worst experience with a vet ever.
Horrible. Took off work for a 415 appointment- got there at 4. Finally got up and walked out at 520 because I still hadnt seen the vet. No one was at the front desk upon my exit. Facility was filthy with pee all over the floor and the vet tech was so uneducated you couldnt even understand what he was saying. AVOID THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

2021-05-10Wonderful place to take your pets. The Dr. Petering is wonderful, Ryan the vet tech and Meagan in the office are awesome. So friendly and helpful. They always make sure your pets are taken care of and explain everything. Having alternatives to traditional medicine such as natural options is what I love about this place. We use natural supplements whenever we can.

2021-08-06They were polite and kind BUT, my appt time was 9am. We had to wait in a car drive thru line. I waited in line over an hour. They did not acknowledge my appointment time or apologize. But as I said, they still were very polite. They took my dog inside without me because they do not allow anyone inside. They said they performed a lab on him and gave him shots. I did not get a lab report. Only a line on the receipt saying that he was negative, but nothing like an official lab report. I did not get proof of shots, but only a charge on the receipt with acronyms of the shot. This makes it really difficult to determine what shot he/she received if you were to read it a few weeks later. When Im getting ready to leave, they made a sales pitch for me to purchase other product from them. (Food, vitamins.) The foods that we feed him are so bad and cooked wrong. Only the ones we have work. The vitamins that we have are the best. He can live a longer life with them (Kinda tugging at the heart strings to get you to buy). After saying all that, they are not the worst vets I have ever visited, but in my opinion they are definitely not the best either.

2021-10-26My dogs have been coming here since 2009, and I couldn’t imagine taking them anywhere else. I appreciate the holistic remedies and treatments plus everyone has been kind and helpful. If your animal needs more specialized assistance, they will help you find the right clinic.

2019-06-18This was our first experience with Animal House, and wont be our last! We LOVE how well we were treated, my pug was very comfortable and happy there (shes usually very nervous) and we definitely got our moneys worth with a deep education on the life cycle of fleas, a very detailed explanation of why certain diets are better than others, and was taught great techniques on how to calm my dog down when she gets antsy. We got a full hour (plus some!) and I felt we left with lots of hope and knowledge. If you are a pet owner who longs to have a vet with a holistic approach that leaves you feeling youve been fully informed, respected, and well-cared for, I highly recommend Animal House!

2022-04-16Good time until we accidentally over payed in cash, and we realized that when we got to the car. So we went back inside to ask and they immediately got very rude and declined the fact that we did indeed over pay. We asked to watch the video footage on the camera, the had us wait for about 30 minutes until they were done with other dogs. They called us back to the video room and replayed the footage (which was a poor video due to the angels of which the camera was facing) so we really couldn’t see the actual face of the bill which made the situation 10x worse. They continued to interrupt me and my girlfriend while we were talking over the video with rude remarks like “see bro that’s yo girl taking the bill back” “check ur girl” “ur girl” “ur girl” “ur girl”. We decided to leave when they picked the phone up to call the police and say two individuals were causing drama. Literally will never be back to this place and I hope no one else has to either. Hands down worse vet experience I’ve ever had.. Clerk definitely robbed my $50 and got away with it.

2020-12-07This is a review I have waited two years to write. Part of me wanted to make sure that it was the treatment by Dr Peterein that saved my dog’s life. It was.Two years ago, our youngest Golden Retriever at age 9, ‘’out of the blue,’ started having small seizures and then a full seizure. Our veterinary we had used since they were puppies diagnosed a brain tumor and suggested expensive CT Scan/MRI tests. They and we felt she would not last long. She lost weight, became lethargic and was not her happy Golden self anymore.I had a good friend tell me about Animal House, Dr Peterein and her wonderful staff and that same day I made an appointment for one of the extensive holistic exams.Dr P was so good with her. She spent a very long time with us asking me questions, reviewing all of her records I brought with me from the other veterinary office. She determined that the seizures had started after a two day period where she had anesthesia for an X-ray for a front leg joint problem the day after she had received all of her numerous updated vaccines.Dr P changed her diet, put her on several supplements with one supplement in particular to address this kind of issue.Within two days, we could see a difference in our dog.Within six weeks, she had gained her weight back, her fur was shiny, her eyes were bright and she had her usual Golden personality and love of life back. We were not going to lose our dog!Two years have passed. She is and has been healthy, active and seizure free.Dr P and her staff treat me and my two Golden’s like we are family.I would never take my Golden Girls to anyone other than Animal House and Dr Peterein and her wonderful loving staff. She is our Angel.

2021-06-09Non-care. Took my very sick dog 2 times over a 2 week period. Doctor is too afraid to allow pet owners in the building! Paid more than $400 and got NOTHING. Was not allowed to see or speak to the doctor. Was told by one of the kids (so-called vet techs) that yeast is a bacteria. Had extensive blood work done, but was never allowed to speak to the doctor about results. In the end when I asked what I could do to alleviate my dogs pain, they said they had no idea. Had to do a google search to figure out a possible solution. TOTAL RIP OFF. KIDS ARE TAKING CARE OF THE ANIMALS, AND HAVE NO FORMAL TRAINING.

2020-08-18I spent 3 hours there yesterday because they scheduled my dog as a new patient for a 15 minute visit after I told them all the issues that needed to be addressed in this visit. I had to ask to see the vet . The vet never talked to me about my pet. They gave me products without any instructions. They left one product out that I had paid for. I called them back and the only response was that I needed to drive back and pick it up. To date I still have no directions to administer products bought.

2019-03-23I have been doing my own research on more natural approaches to medicine being a vet tech myself and attending school. I am SO beyond thrilled to find a practice that really gets it. I have yet to find another vet that promotes raw diet, doesn’t recommend unnecessary vaccines and really cares about health and longevity of my pet and not selling products they can’t stand behind. I left with a head full of good knowledge and all my questions answered and a good path to take for my dogs diet. If I ever have health concerns, this clinic will be the first place I turn to. I trust them 100%.

2020-02-03I called several vets in the area and somehow no one could help in giving me an opinion if my dog was pregnant. Harwood Oaks was the only place to offer any help. They were honest and thorough in explaining that they could do physical exam of her and the possibility of X-rays if necessary, but no ultrasounds. Everyone here was so kind. My Nina is usually terrified anywhere unknown, but everyone made sure she felt cared for. I really appreciate that they called back same day to give me some more important info and then a week later to check in on us, too. I highly recommend!
