Hill Country Animal Hospital in other cities:
This is a terrible veterinary hospital/boarding facility. A friend of mine worked here and informed me that they will place dogs from multiple families in the same kennels to be boarded when they ran out of room. The treatment plans are extremely expensive and unnecessary. Clients do not know any better. I would never bring my pet here!
Unfortunately this clinic is deceptive in pricing. I asked 1 month ago what the charges would be. I was charged close to 80 dollars for a rabies shot. The girl said they are required under law to do an exam before a rabies shot. I’ve had several cars and that has never happened. Be careful they will charge you unexpectedly.
My 5 month old Labradoodle LOVES Doggy Daycare at the Hill Country Animal Hospital! He socializes, runs , and plays all day and is absolutely exhausted when I pick him up...mission accomplished! I love their drive through drop-off and pick-up concierge service; it is most convenient because its on my way to and from work! Their entire staff are so helpful and sweet! In particular, on our very first [drive through] drop-off, I realized I didnt have all of my pups most recent vaccination paperwork; Elizabeth sat in my car with me while I called our previous vet for confirmation of his current shots. She was patient and accommodating and made me feel at ease about leaving my pup there for his first ever Daycare experience.
I cant say enough how much Im glad I switched clinics to here. I moved my dogs over here for care after a few friends recommended them, and my last vet was trying to get one over on me. Everyone here truly cares, and you can see it in how they handle your animals. They definitely dont try to over charge you just for the love you have for your pet. Everyone took the time to explain all avenues of care for my little guy and answered all 783 questions I had. My little one just spent a few nights there after the drs caught some irregularities in his blood work. They have now helped put Trooper on a proper path for a healthy and happy life
Horrible service. Was given one price point by two different staff members. When it was time to handle payment, they began to up charge. I asked to speak to the director and they got me on the phone with a nurse named Karen who kept talking in circles trying to explain how it was justified and probably hoped I would cave. Eventually I asked to speak to the director and she told me she didn’t have her number or email address. Then she told me she would have a manager named Meghan call me and they wouldn’t charge my card until she did. Surprise, surprise, Meghan never did make that call and my card was charged the next morning for the price I did NOT consent to. I will be filing a grievance with the state. This is completely unacceptable to prey on someone’s sick puppy. Train your staff Hill Country Animal Hospital!
I’ve been coming to this place for 10 years now and have always been pleased with the level of care they’ve given to my dogs. No matter the issue, the staff genuinely cares for the experience of the animal and you can see the love they have for animals. I highly recommend.
My dog loves coming to Hill Country Animal Hospital. I had tons of business travel this month and each time she was eager to see the nice techs and her doggie friends for boarding. My one wish is that they would allow a one hour pick up on Sundays. Our previous boarding place had a pick up from 4:30-5:30p.m. on Sundays so we could have our furry friends home with us at the end of the weekend.
New to the area and decided to look for a new vet. They were very friendly and easy to get in with! I needed an appointment to establish care and to also get my pup her monthly cytopoint injection. Great first experience and I will be using them again to establish care for my other pup.
Hill Country allowed me to bring in my very sick dog without an appointment (Walk-in) which several other Vets would not. They were able to quickly diagnosis what turned out to be a terminal illness. They were extremely compassionate and did all they could to help us through a very difficult and devastating situation. Dr. Kemintz and Dr. Amy Toth were awesome and Im very thankful for the care they provided for our sweet Resse.
There’s nobody else I would ever trust wholeheartedly to care for my Pets. Unfortunately I had to put my sweet boy to sleep yesterday, but the care that they always provided for him and my other dog who lived to be 13 was always outstanding. They are kind, compassionate, welcoming, and listen to the owners. They are the most respectful people I have encountered and only ever want what’s best for the animals. I boarded my dogs many times here and they always come back healthy, happy, and clean. They are always accommodating and purely just have good hearts. I am so devastated to have had to let my doggy go, but Hill Country and and all the staff will always be special to my family.
I have always had the worst luck with vets but seriously these guys are legit the BEST. Especially Dr. Toth, she is always so sweet and helpful. The other doctors are amazing as well, but I usually end up with her and have such a soothing and wonderful experience. Thank you guys! Also, the board for dogs is extremely reasonably priced and I feel completely at ease leaving my dog here in their capable hands.
I called to make an appt after my dog unexpectedly injured her paw and appeared to have an abscess, making it painful for her to walk. It was Monday, so they had no appointments available, but let me know I could stop in and do standby. I made an appt for first thing tuesday just in case. I ended up stopping in at 5:50 pm on monday (they close at 6) and the vet saw me immediately. She was super friendly and addressed and treated the issue quickly. I was so pleased she made time and stayed after 6 to see me. My dog was immediately better after she received an antibiotic treatment.
Hill Country was the only Vet that helped see my dog when I had called literally 16 others with no luck and being told I would have to wait 6-8 hours. Taylor was amazing her and the Vet took us in with barely any wait. The whole process was super fast. Needless to say we found a new vet!
This was my first visit to Hill Country Animal Hospital, Dr Holcomb and staff. They all made me feel like I have found my forever “Pet care Home!” Their organizational skills are fantastic, the staff was so friendly, upbeat and extremely efficient. Dr Holcomb was absolutely wonderful when he came out to meet me and talk about his exam with Mia. He asked detailed questions and shared his valuable expertise. I can tell he genuinely cares about my Pets!! He’s wonderful!!
I love Hill Country Animal Hospital, but more importantly, my dogs love it! They have so many positive experiences there with doggie day care and boarding that they love going to see the vet! There is no anxiety only pure joy. It is so nice that whether they need a check up or are unwell and need treatment, they are comfortable and happy to be there. They feel loved by every staff member!
My dog was in a shelter for months, and she was very mistreated early in life. She loves our family, but she does not do well around new people. This makes going to the vet a nightmare. She must be muzzled so she can’t bite anyone, and she fights tooth and nail when she is being taken into the exam room. The staff at Hill Country is always very patient with her, and they do whatever they have to to quickly take care of business and get her back to me. I have had a bad experience with another vet, who refused to change how they interacted with her despite her obvious terror, expecting Emmie to calm down immediately and behave like most other animals in there. She’s been with us for 6 years, and she still reacts exactly the same every single visit. Dr Holcomb and his staff at Hill Country adapt to my pet‘s needs to minimize trauma. Because they don’t stress about the situation, I worry less which allows Emmie to calm down just a little bit, making the visit go as smoothly as it can. That makes all the difference. They also saw Emmie immediately when she had severe vomiting and diarrhea one time, prescribing medication that allowed her to be able to keep down fluids within a matter of hours. I highly recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital, and I think Emmie would gladly give them a little love bite if given the chance!
First off, they took me last minute to update a couple of vaccinations my own dogs needed before I could take in a foster rescue dog (which was a time sensitive situation) and this isn’t even my usual vet so I really appreciated their flexibility with that! They were very friendly and gave me great updates on my dogs and even a little report card which I found to be a nice touch. If they weren’t so far from my house I’d use them as my go to and 100% recommend!
Hill Country Animal Hospital is the best! Not only are they great at taking care of my dogs medical needs at an affordable price, but they have a great daycare set up. My dog comes here for daycare 2x a week and she loves it so much. The dogs are grouped by size and temperament and are monitored closely by the staff throughout the day. She is exhausted from running around all day with her dog friends and it keeps her well socialized and happy. I have recommended this place to many of my co-workers and would do so for anyone who has a dog in the Austin area!
Hill Country Animal has been taking care of our dogs for 18 years. They are perfect for check ups, boarding, baths and other ailments your dog will experience over its lifetime. Their front office staff is very organized and professional. Our black lab (Annie) used to jump out of the car on her visits because she had such positive experiences at Hill country animal. They also assisted with sending Annie to heaven and managed the situation as best as they could. Our current dog arrived to our family very ill from the breeder and the knowledgeable vets helped us keep her alive. She is now 6 1/2 and very healthy.
I am totally comfortable taking my dog to Hill Country. The staff is so friendly and efficient. The Doctor called me within an hour of dropping off my pup to tell me the results of her exam - no waiting and worrying. HCAH goes above and beyond. I have been a client for 5 years and I love them.
Hill Country Animal Hospital is the best! They have been taking such wonderful care of my dog, Brooks. He has been in for various little things and the vets are so knowledgeable and friendly. Brooks is a very active pointer and the staff is incredible handling him. They take great care of him when I go out of town and he’s boarded there overnight. They are the only ones I trust with Brooks! I am lucky I found this clinic and I highly, highly recommend them!
Hill Country provide outstanding service. They are always courteous, concerned and knowledgeable. Front desk staff are well informed and super efficient...always willing to go the extra mile. Vets are amazing. They genuinely care about your animals and provide extensive information and options. They are there to guide you but keep you very involved in the process. They followup to insure your animal is doing well. Dr..Kemnitz is my personal favorite.
My puppy had a severe allergic reaction to something. I got home from work on a Friday and immediately called it was 20 minutes till the closed and they still took me. They came and got her right away. I was very scared but Amy was so calm and bubbly it made me feel like everything would be okay. She explained everything to me and helped promptly even though I didn’t have an appointment. I always feel like my dog is in good hands with this team! Can’t say thank you enough!
I have been a client for several years. The office staff is always friendly and professional. The doctors are top-notch, no matter what my loving dog says. I heartily recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital for any dog needs. No other animals, so cannot comment on treatment of cats, birds, etc.Follow up as of July 2019– everything I said above is still relevant. A great team of caring professionals!
Always a great experience at Hill Country Animal Hospital! Staff is always friendly & professional. Our 10 year old German Shepherd LOVES going to HCAH. It is his vet & kennel when needed .... but his favorite is Doggy Daycare. We have been customers for almost 25 years.
We have been taking all of our pets to Hill Country Animal Hospital for over 15 years. I am happy they have been able to remain open and handle the volume they do. My one constructive criticism is to have more techs available to handle the backup in the drive-thru (only option) line during peak hours (morning & afternoon) as it gets backed up onto Bee Cave (very dangerous).
My family and I have had outstanding experience with Hill Country Animal Hospital. A friend recommended them to us a handful of years ago when we moved to Austin, and we have been taking our dogs to them since. Their location is a bit of a drive from our south Austin home, but were happy to make the trip. Dr. Holcomb and every veterinarian we have seen at Hill Country are careful and attentive, and we are confident we can rely on them not to try to overcharge or add in extra services or treatments that our animals dont need. When our dog needed a leg operation, Hill Country was happy to refer him to one of the best specialized surgeons in the area, even though Hill Country could have pressured us into having them perform a simpler version of the operation instead. I highly recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital, and Im glad we can rely on them to care for our dogs.
We used this vet for 4 months because they had a doggie day care that was reasonably priced. At first it was fine but then our dog started getting sick literally EVERY single month at the doggie daycare. Then because he was sick, the vet would charge us for medications. EVERY month out of the 4 months our dog had a $200 vet bill from them because of THEIR doggie day care issues. We ended up leaving and deciding this wasnt the place for us.
I have been taking my dog to HCAH for almost 16yrs and they reliably do a great job!But that is not all. We recently had to say good bye to our sweet boy Max. The folks at HCAH were so nice, patient and understanding we could not have asked for more. Then we just received a letter that Dr Jim made a donation to Texas A&M in the name our little buddy, Max. Their care and kindness will never be forgotten. Take your pet to Dr. Jim.
I love this vet clinic. They always call my dog by her name no matter how long it’s been since I’ve been there. They send me reminders about her routine care. Everyone there is super nice and goes the extra mile for my dog and I. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a vet (or boarding).
I have been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital for more than 10 years, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Even though I moved from a place near the hospital to the other end of the city, I still drive there for all my vet needs. Considering Austin traffic, this is high praise indeed!Dr. Holcombe and his staff are always courteous and professional. They take the time to get to know your pets and you. I trust them completely to take care of my four legged children, and they have never disappointed me.Unlike another reviewer, I have never had any issue with them performing a test or procedure without my knowledge or consent. They always talk to me first about what they want to do, and, if I ask, they are very upfront about the pros and cons. They give me all the information without bias and let me take control of my pets care. Yes, I can spend a fortune at the vet, but its nothing abnormal. I get exceptional care and service for what I pay.I recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital to anyone who wants exceptional and compassionate care for your pets.
This is the best vet EVER!! My dogs love it here, from the visit with Dr Holcomb to doggie day care, to spending the night. They are loved, played with, treated with care, and always a pleasant experience. I DONT LIKE the ski ropes they use as leashes. Chokes my overly excited pooch
My parents have been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital with their dogs for years so when my husband and I got our black lab a couple of years ago, it was the first place we thought of for vet care. But HCAH is so much more than just a vet - theyre like a family and thats how they treat our pup. Our dog loves coming here for daycare and we love the easy drive through drop-off and pick-up. All of the staff members are so friendly and happily greet our dog each time she comes to play. Weve recommended both the vet care and day care services to many friends and have only heard good things from those who have come here with their dogs.
Dr Holcomb is a very experienced and compassionate vet. He has done a wonderful job taking care of our four dogs. We have been to several other local clinics in Austin. At the other clinics, either the Vets were not the greatest or the management was a problem.Dr. Holcomb and Hill Country Animal Hospital get five stars. The Management of this Animal Hospital is first rate and the Veterinary Care is unsurpassed.Thank you for taking GREAT care of our rescues with such skill and compassion.I initially came here on the recommendation of a friend. It is worth the drive from Lakeway. I know my dogs are in great hands here.
Hill Country Animal Hospital is wonderful! The staff is so kind and gives so much care and attention to my pup, it really puts me at ease whenever she is attending daycare or being boarded. The convenience of dropping off my dog for daycare knowing she can also see the vet without making an appointment or having to be present is a huge perk! Will continue to spread the word of how great Hill Country Animal Hospital is!
There is not enough space to say how AMAZING Hill Country Animal Hospital is. We moved to Austin 3 years ago and were recommended to go to this place and they have never disappointed. We had an elderly dog at that time that Dr. Holcomb had to help us through with his elderly ailments. We eventually had to make the decision to let our elderly dog go to heaven and the loving care and personal phonecalls at home after hours from Dr. Holcomb to ensure we were okay truly went above and beyond. We also had another dog that was very sad after the passing. We decided to have him go to doggy day care two times a week and it tremendously helped. He loved going there in fact would of preferred to go every day. Then we adopted another dog as she was three days from being put down in a shelter in Sequin and when I picked her up she was in need of a vet visit. My husband called and without question or an appointment they said bring her in and so I was able to before I took her home to make sure she was okay. We moved to the North side of Austin and cant visit now as much as we would like to and still every time we go back they remember Elvis like it was yesterday and are now getting familiar with Gracie. My babies love them and I truly appreciate everything Hill Country has done for us. The service is way above and beyond and it is genuine not forced. Thank you so much Hill Country Animal Hospital.
Our experience with Hill Country Animal Hospital has been nothing short of great! We regularly bring our kitten Rio and our puppy Bonnie Blue and they have been treated with great care and professionalism by the entire staff. The appointments are always very efficient and the staff take time to get to know us and our children on a personal level. It is extremely easy to book appointments with the PetDesk app - would highly encourage anyone who is looking for a vet to consider going to Hill Country Animal Hospital!
I love bringing my poodle Rocco to Dr. Holcombs Hill Country Animal Hospital. The staff is super professional. The doctors are fantastic and they always call the next day to make sure things are ok with our dog. They offer medical help grooming and boarding. We have used all of their services and have been very happy. We found Hill Country Animal Hospital because the dogs breeder used them. Very happy with their services!
Been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital for several years now. Initially started going on the recommendation of our animal loving neighbor. Ive been very pleased with every aspect. It is easy to make a reservation for convenient times, check-in is very efficient, wait times are minimal and sometimes non-existent. Most importantly the nurses and vets and knowledgeable, kind and warm to my pets (1-cat, 1-dog). They definitely take all the stress out of visiting. The end result is a healthier pet because you wont avoid taking them in for regular check-ups. Thanks HCAH!
I’ve taken two dogs here for about 6 years. Dr. Holcomb saved my dog Franklin’s life when he swallowed a rock, and I will forever be indebted to him for the care he provided during that time. The folks here are kind, professional, and on top of things. I love the drive through option and the building itself is pretty and comfortable.
We love HCAH! They take such good care of our doggos at their Doggy Daycare. We have a rowdy guy and they handle and work with him so well, getting all of his wild child wiggles out playing. Kind and caring staff always and they truly care about their furry clients. Peanut is also one of my favorite people/parrots on the planet!
Always a terrific experience here. Great front office staff. Very friendly and well organized. The 3 Veterinarians are top notch. They take plenty of time to make sure they understand any problem that your pet may have. Also, the office keeps track of your pets inoculation needs and other health needs. On a scale of 1-10, Hill Country Animal Hospital is a 10!
Ive used Dr. Holcomb for 14 years and hes a great vet, kind, knowledgeable and the office always runs smoothly. Never a wait. I love the drive thru to drop off my cats for nail clippings or even routine shots. Staff is very friendly and helpful. My kitties always get Sweet Boy! on their check-up sheet. They treat my cats like they are their own.
We visit HCAH for same-day drop off and pick up, overnight boarding, and health/grooming for our family dog. Not only does our dog get excited about going to HCAH, but the staff are incredibly friendly, loving toward our dog, and transparent about services and billing.HCAH provides great value on all of the aforementioned services, but they also make it easy on the families with quick drop off/pick up and follow up calls! We will continue to remain customers for a long time!
This is as good as a vet clinic gets. We board our pup here and changed his vet to this clinic as well. Whenever we have to leave him at the doggy daycare, he always looks pretty happy and content on the way home, which is remarkable considering that he has some separation anxiety issues. The staff is friendly, caring and very quickly respond to our questions and concerns. We would highly recommended this place to our friends.
We feel so blessed to have found Hill Country Animal Hospital. Not only terrific Vets and staff, but a great kennel. So nice when you have to leave town and you know you pets are so well looked after. The dogs love it at Hill Country. And the staff goes way beyond to make you comfortable and at ease. We love Hill Country Animal Hospital!!
Our dog has been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital for veterinary services for 5 years. I have been very impressed with the level of care received from all of the doctors! They not only care about the reason we have brought our dog in, but also are happy to discuss any other questions or concerns we may have. There is always a follow-up phone call the next day to check on our dog and make sure he is doing well. I am happy to recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital!
Hill Country has a great staff and offers terrific services! Kaley, the groomer, does a wonderful job. We like the doggie day care, very reasonably priced and convenient. The vets and technicians are respectful and professional. They seen 3 different dogs over the years and weve always been pleased with the care given. Nice job Hill Country!
Office staff at Hill Country Animal is always so friendly, accommodating and efficient. They were able to see our puppy without an appointment and was in and out in less then 30 minutes. We enjoy taking our puppy there and definitely recommend them to family and friends!
Hill Country Animal Hospital has been our familys vet for 17 years and during that time they have always been wonderful with our dogs and with us. From their first puppy vaccinations to 2 very sad days when we have had to say goodbye to our beloved Max and Lucky, everyone there has been kind, caring, very skilled and really good at what they do. We would never think of taking our dogs anywhere else!
The staff here are knowledgeable and also kind and caring. Veterinary staff makes sure that all of my questions are answered and the boarding/grooming staff responds quickly to all inquiries before, during, and after my dog has stayed with them. Pricing is very fair compared to many boarding and veterinary services in the Downtown Austin Area. I will be continuing my business as a loyal and satisfied customer.
Terrific experiences with the staffs care and attention to our puppy. Our pup LOVES the doggy day care. And we had a particularly positive experience when we called asking to have a poop sample test done on a Friday afternoon. No requirement to have an office visit first. They said just bring in a sample and within an hour we had the results. To us it showed they cared more about the health of our puppy than generating fees for an office visit.
We have always had a wonderful experience at Hill Country Animal Hospital with our black Lab, Ann. Hill Country Animal Hospital was recommended to us when we first moved to Austin, and we have been very happy. I love how I can make appointments online! Everyone is always friendly, fair, and very helpful.
This place is incredible! The staff are friendly and so professional. I recently had to put a beloved pet to sleep due to metastatic cancer. The staff went over and beyond for me and my baby. They even hand wrote me a sympathy card. I was so completely touched by their kindness and compassion. I will always take my pets here. I love them and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good vet!
Best service EVER!The staff is always courteous, professional and cheerful. The Christmas themed outfits add an awesome festive vibe too. The clinic also has a drop-off portico (best idea in the world) where you drive up and staff will bring your pups out of the car without you ever leaving the drivers seat! Its the easiest way to drop off/pick up my dogs for day board or vet appointments because I have up to 5 dogs with me at a time. They also have the most reasonable prices for daycare, baths and boarding Ive seen in town. Its a life saver!
Ive held off on writing this review for over a year now. For a chance for them to do something more spectacular and amazing then the time or visit before, but the care never stops being absolutely outstanding and the very, very best. After countless visits, a very sick puppy, a surgery, severe allergies, vaccinations, boarding, and tons of referrals not one single time have they ever disappointed me in the care and customer service they have given to my family. This is hands down the ultimate best vet, and practice you could possibly take your animal to in all of Austin, Texas. If I could give a 10 star review I would. Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring love you have shown our boxers, and the best possible care ever!!The Rincons
You are expected to sign a confidentiality agreement. Then see why, they don’t uphold the CCDT honor code. If your dogs aggressive they lie and say it did good in a kennel away from other dogs. If your dog jumps the fence they say it did good tho it was in a Kennel all day sometimes the owners can tell. Working there theirs no assistance from any department and the people you don’t see often have to deal with the work load. Don’t like being dishonest even tried to implement training program there.after mentioning to one client that their dog jumps the fence so it was in the kennel and leashed walked she never returned and was told I’m not supposed to say anything. They refer ppl to other training facility’s yet have no idea if their behavior or training can be provided there. Their have been multiple car crashes with clients leaving and coming to the facility. Their have been many times a dog has ran into the middle of the street across the busy roadway and nothing has been done to prevent that. The rate of people being hired , fired or quitting is very high .They expect others to work on their feet 11 hours with only a hour lunch. And when things have been mentioned on what needs to change it doesn’t. And when it’s too late you have to put your morals and integrity before a business that mistreats and miscares for those animals. Not really the employees fault but managements. But the fear of loosing business.Spraying the yards with chemicals while your pets are in the yard not knowing how the chemicals will hurt the animal. Weekend shifts aren’t implementing correctly. Without other facility’s being able to pay as much as their leaves some kennel techs trapped in a toxic high school drama ran facility. Kennel techs are undervalued overworked and expected to be scapegoats for the others departments mistakes.
Dr Toth and her team are exceptional - I have been very impressed with the care and communication regarding my dog. The front desk staff is also wonderful - they have always taken the time to answer questions and communicate with Dr Toth. I couldnt be happier and have had a wonderful experience with Hill Country Animal Hospital. Thank you for all of your help and wonderful care - keep up the great work!
This is one of the best Vet clinics in the area. Our family has taken our dogs here for years and they always treat our pups really well, whether if it’s for regular check ups, grooming, boarding, etc.We had to put one of our dogs down about a month ago due to old age and complications. They gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes and thoroughly explained the process. A couple days later we received a card signed by the entire staff from the vet clinic with a sweet message inside. They take the time and effort to get to know your animals and it shows that they truly care about them.Hill Country Animal Hospital will always be the place I take my pups.Update: Just received a notice from Texas A&M University (where everyone at our family graduated from). It said a donation was made in the name of Bryce, our former dog, to support the vet school there. This is just another example of how much these people care about animals and are willing to go above and beyond for them.
I wasn’t as impressed as I wanted to be. I felt the appointment was rushed. The vet technician also took all the information down about my dog, Ivan wrong. My dog was Xrayed and they never even asked me if I wanted to see them so they could go over them with me and explain the issue. The vet seemed very insensitive about the diagnosis as well. He told me to now allow my dog to jump into the car then the bet tech then had Ivan jump up into my car at the end of the appointment. I just felt like the communication was a bit broken and I won’t be back.
I have been bringing my 3 year old chow chow Jazzie here since June. I originally picked this for a dog daycare because it was close to my work and was very reasonably priced with great care for the dogs, but I ended up making it my location for her vet and overnight boarding as well because of the service my dog and I are shown. I beleive that medical care for your pet is worth every penny so I am totally ok with prices being slightly more than say Thrive or something. They keep very detailed records on your pet and you will get automatic email updates when they are due for shots or check ups which is wonderful.Jazzie loves spending the day at day care, shes always tired when I pick her up but happy and has never come home after daycare with any issues/injuries. I like that they separate the dogs into big and small areas and I also like that they take their collars off so that their is no risk of getting stuck on anything while they are playing. She has only stayed once for boarding but it was a very positive experience, and I was pleased with the report I was given on how she did from the staff AND was pleased that she didnt have any after effects (I always worry about doggy depression when I go away and kennel cough has always made me fear overnight boarding but no issue with that here)Dr. Holcomb has been great for my dog and recently treated Jazzie for seasonal allergies. Shes got a great attitude and is so pleasant I felt like I was just talking to a friend about my dog let alone a professional. We are moving soon and will miss Hill Country Animal Hospital, their kindness, and the quality of care very much.
Its always quick and efficient. My dog is an American Bulldog he loves the staff and they Do Not shy from him. Getting monthly or quarterly medications is very convenient. I get repeated reminder e-mails for shots and appointments. This is all very productive for my busy lifestyle. They do a great job on nails and troubleshooting strange skin rashes.Thank you Hill Country.
Hill Country has taken great care of my best buddy Buster. They are gentle and loving with him. I am always sent emails reminding me when his shots are due. He recently had a cancerous tumor removed from his head. The Dr. called that evening to check up on him and answer my questions. I highly recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital.
Dr. Holcomb is great. The whole staff is very friendly and very professional. We have been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital for 20 years, for vet services and boarding, and always have a very good experience. Our dog boards there regularly and she is always very well taken care of. Wouldnt go anywhere else!
The staff was so kind to me and my cat. I was obviously very upset and the vet took the time to comfort me as she explained what was wrong with my cat, what they were doing for her, and how to use the medicine on her. Shes made a complete recovery and is back to her schedule of sleeping most of the day. Theres no one I trust more than HCAH and my family has taken all our pets to them since we moved here and adopted our first cat over a decade ago.
I have been coming to Hill Country Animal Hospital for almost twenty years (Im on my second dog). Everyone is so great with Ranger, our Newfoundland. He gets all his grooming done there as well as his medical care. I also love the convenience of the drive thru window. i have recommended this hospital to several people and will continue to do so.
Hill Country Animal Hospital couldnt keep my Dogs records straight. I called and sat on the phone with the receptionist for over 15 minutes and she couldnt figure out anything. This is all very upsetting because keeping the dates of vaccinations are important for keeping dogs healthy and alive. I am glad I caught it and my dog was not hurt due to Hill Countrys lack of due diligence. I would not recommend Hill Country and would encourage current patients to double check all records in case they messed yours up as well.
Dont believe that negative review - this place is amazing! My father used to investigate vet clinics for the state, so I know this one is good :D Also, Ive been going for 6 years now and I have NEVER met a staff who wasnt helpful or nice. I live downtown now, but still take my pets to this clinic as good care is worth it. Regarding prices, I have compared and their services are very competitive and often a bit lower than other places. I am sure they have clientele who dont care about the price of their bill, but I do...and as a consumer, its important for you to ask what things cost! I do expect if something is pricey, or there is a cheaper option to be told about this - and in all the years of going there, I was only surprised by a price once. They apologized and I understand they just wanted the best for my dog (doc offered an antibiotic in a shot form that would last 2 weeks, but didnt tell me the price - in the end, it was way easier than 2 weeks of pills!).
Excellent place to take your pet! I have taken my dog and cat here for several years. The vet techs are so nice, and the doctors are effective, efficient, and explain everything. There are always smiling faces to greet us at the reception desk when we arrive, and they go above and beyond to see to your every need.
My Emmy goes 3Xs/week to play with other dogs and loves it! It is easy to go through the drive through, drop her off and then come back at the end of the day and pick her up. She is happy and tired. They are all very kind and responsive-not only for day care but also for any medical attention she may need. Follow up is awesome!
Love Hill Country Animal Hospital for all my pets needs! We have two Dalmatians and they love to come play for day camp and boarding! While boarding we can rest assured that they are well taken care of and will get all the medical attention they may need which is very comforting with an older pet with medical issues like one of our Dals. They always greet us with a smile and are always happy to see our dals! We know our dals love it here!! Highly recommend!!
Love hill country animal hospital! Have been taking my pup here since I moved to Austin a couple years ago and have been so happy with the service and staff! I always feel so comfortable dropping her off for boarding when I’m headed out of town, and have the peace of mind knowing she’s happy and in great hands.
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been patients at HCAH for several years and weve always received the best care and service from Dr. Holcomb and his entire staff. Theyve worked with me on many sorts of issues with the dogs and clearly communicate what I need to do and any options I should consider. Plus I can call with questions and get a knowledgeable and kind answer from the vets quickly and easily. I appreciate all they do for the dogs and for me; thank you HCAH - heres to many years of healthy pets for us all!
We were new to the area and chose Hill Country Animal Hospital based on reviews. We have used their boarding, bathing and our dog has needed a few vaccines. They are friendly and more than sufficiently staffed when you walk in. This place has been great so far, and their prices are very reasonable. Would definitely recommend!
My family has been using HCAH for years! The staff is wonderful and Drs. Holcomb and Kemnitz are thorough, responsive and really care about your pet. They also offer great boarding and doggie day care services. Its nice to have a local place you can trust for everything related to your pet.
I have taken my dogs to the Hill Country Animal Hospital for health care as well as boarding for over 10 years. The staff is always accommodating and very sweet . The Doctors are compassionate and always use state of the art therapy for keeping your animals in tip top shape !
Dr James Holcomb and all the Docs, the nurses, the techs and all the staff at Hill Country Animal Hospital are truly amazing!! They are kind hearted, very knowledgeable and awesome at taking care of all our fur babies! I feel so blessed to have a group of people I trust completely in the care and well being of all our dearly loved babies. Thank you Doctors and staff of HCAH for always being there for our precious pets who are our family! Gob bless you all as you continue to care for all those in need of medical care, grooming, boarding, doggie day care and all that you do. You guys rock! Love yall!!
Weve taken or dogs in for routine check-ups, emergencies, and bathinggrooming services and weve never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly, helpful, and accommodating. My only complaints are that the groomer seems to be unavailable often, it would be nice if they had more than one. Also, sometimes their prices for certain vet services seem a bit steep, but thats not unusual considering the area.
These folks are awesome. I take my dog there for play day a few times per week. The ladies up front and folks that work in the back are some of the happiest and nicest people you will meet. They all know my name and my dogs name. Drive up drop off and pickup, how can you beat that? And if your dog needs a update on meds/shots, they do it while they are at play day. Great for busy people like me.
I was able to book an appointmentand see the vet in less than 24 hours. They are efficient, clean, and friendly to people and your pet. I appreciated the vets honesty and ability to treat my pet without breaking the bank. They even called the next day to make sure my dog was doing better! Highly recommend.
Ive taken my dog Willie here for 9 years. Willie is a beautiful Bichon Frise. Dr Holcomb and his staff have made Willie feel like he is dog royalty and their most important patient since he was a pup. Thing is, I imagine he makes every dog feel the same way. If you love your dog and want the best care you should use Hill Country Animal Hospital.
Hill Country Animal Hospital is an amazing place. They have an amazing staff from the front desk to the nurses to the Vets. They are very knowledgable and very friendly. They really care about your pet and will always go above and beyond to care for your pet. Highly recommend!!!!
The Doctors and Staff at Hill Country Animal Hospital are by far the best in town. Everyone is friendly and dedicated to the welfare and care of their furry clients. This place is one of few left in town that know what real customer service looks like!I moved here from another vet clinic in town after reviewing prices and found HCAH to be much more reasonable....so glad I did because this clinic is hands down way better in all areas!
Need more stars for this review than 5. Seems like everything in the pet-world happens all at once. New in the neighborhood, we needed the closest place available. From start to finish - just an unbelievably great veterinary experience. These are talented, awesome-minded folks at the top of the Hill. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Today my healthy dog went in for a routine dental procedure. He died in their office after the procedure. The volume of pets they turn through everyday is concerning. The waiting room had multiple piles of feces in it as the vet handed me my deceased dog. We are absolutely devastated by this loss and would never want anyone to experience this.
I took my dogs to this vet based on a recommendation because Im new to Austin. First they gave me a quote on an annual dental cleaning and to remove a lump off of my dogs back. The vet said the lump needed to be sent off and it looked suspicious. They quoted me $1100 for the dental and lumpectomy. The day I dropped my dog off on the scheduled day and I told them only take the lump off, we can do the dental another day. The vet that day called me and said the lump was not suspicious and they could do it for $550. So Im left to wonder whats really going on here. First its suspicious..then its not. This did not leave me with a good impression, but I went ahead and did it. When I took her for follow up to remove the sutures they did not remove all of them. I had to get a suture set from work and do it myself. There are still sutures in her back and my current vet said it may cause a cyst from them not removing the sutures properly.Weeks later I had to put my other dog to sleep .It was an agonizing decision. The vet did not want to give him sedation prior to putting him to sleep at first. Only after I requested it would he do it. After coldly explaining the COST of the drug, i told him to give the medicine. The vet wanted to put him to sleep with a muzzle on! My dog was so scared and he had never had to wear a muzzle. He was salivating profusely and so frightened. They said he would die peacefully...and he most certainly did not. He struggled to die. It seemed to take forever. Probably because he didnt get enough medicine. The only compassionate person was the vet tech. He was awesome.I will never go there again
We love Hill Country Animal Hospital. They have taken care of our dogs & cats since 1993. Also, in recent years, theyve given love & care to my special but challenging little fellow, an elderly, blind, deaf, curmudgeon Jack Russell Terrier mix, which i fostered, then adopted. HCAH has saved my life with this little guy (boarding) on numerous occasions, enabling me to keep him.
Dr. Riddick took care of my dog when I first got her from the shelter. It turned out that had scabies and a bacterial skin infection. Dr. Riddick was very thorough and answered all of my questions. She was also great at handling my nervous and skittish dog, and was able to put her at ease. She also followed up with me to make sure her medications were working properly. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.Dr. Kemnitz took care of my foster dog. She was severely malnourished and had a terrible case of demodectic mange. She had to make regular trips to the Hill Country Animal Hospital for several months. The entire staff knew her each time she came and treated her as if she were their own dog. Dr. Kemnitz did a great job with his care plan for her and she went from being a bald skeleton to a strong, beautiful German Shepherd. I even boarded her for a week at Hill Country when I was out of town and she came back happy and healthy. They took great care of her!I live 40 minutes away from HCAH now, but its still worth the drive!
We have been with Hill Country Animal Hospital since we got our black Lab Nisha as a puppy over 13 years ago, and though weve recently moved to Lakeway, we would not go anywhere else. The staff is attentive, efficient, communicative and friendly, and above all they care for Nisha the way we would expect any member of our family to be cared for. Everything large and small with regards to our dogs health and well-being are quickly and professionally addressed. Dr. Holcomb and Dr. Riddick never let on how busy they are, and always take the time in appointments to talk to and educate us on how to care for Nisha at every stage of her life, and call to follow up afterwards. We are also frequent travelers, and Hill Country Animal Hospital, with access to these trusted vets and caring staff, is the only place we board Nisha. Despite the constant activity, the office itself is clean, orderly and calm, and Nisha is always happy when we take her for visits there! Thank you, HCAH!
I wish I could find a personal medical facility as caring, courteous and professional as the staff at Hill Country Animal Hospital. From routine shots, bathing or simple day care for my dog to serious concerns and ailments, they are the best I have ever encountered in the 11 years of my dogs life.
HCAH has simplified being a pet owner by having so many services in house. You had me at Drop Off Window! What a convenience for doggie day care - I hand my little Charley off at the drive through drop off, and know she will have a great day playing with her dog and people friends. Im also using the veterinary, boarding and grooming services, and am pleased with all of these services too.HCAH always gives me a call back after services to make sure Im satisfied. Great customer care. The kindest thing HCAH did was to call me after Charley spent the night in the Animal Emergency Room of another facility to check in and confirm she was okay. That was so nice.
I can’t say enough good things about Hill Country Animal Hospital. I rescued a litter of puppies at 6 weeks old and adopted them all out except the runt sweet Mya. Mya was very timid and although I tried three different families for her she was returned to me each time. I took it as a sign that she was meant to be my puppy (even though I wasn’t ready for a puppy at the time.) I knew Mya was going to need a LOT of work. Well that’s where Hill Country Animal Hospital came in!We came for shots but little did I know they were going to change her from the inside out. Mya has always loved dogs and I’ll never forget the vet bringing in his dog to make Mya comfortable. Ever since then we’ve had to get more shots and although it’s been a different vet a time or two each vet has approached Mya in their own way where Mya doesn’t feel scared or worried in anyway.Daycare well to keep it short and sweet. Mya is spoiled she’s my world and she loves dogs. Because she is people timid I love that anytime she’s with a dog she acts like a dog. So as you probably guessed it she comes to daycare each and every single day at Hill Country. Not only is this great because of all the different dog options offered for doggie daycare at Hill Country but it is supervised all day so she is safe. It is outside which she loves and there’s pools and water to play in which is even better for her. Best part for me there are so many different staff members with her all day that she lets them walk her on a leash! Strangers walking her on a leash to her mommy after daycare each and every day!Lastly grooming is wonderful. Mya loves to dig and then roll all in it especially after it rains! Gross right!? Mya is a German Shepard Malamute imagine all that fur!!! Well it isn’t a problem for Hill Country. Every SINGLE day you come in they will simple ask what she is doing. Or as for Mya who comes every day to play they say “just playing today?” They never push anything on you and they tell you all prices up front if you ask. Mya has been bathed with just the hose outside several times for free without being asked “just because she got to dirty to send home.”Lastly, I recently had brain surgery. My short term memory is gone for about 2.5 years. This place is my support. They truly do take care and have changed Mya for the better. I couldn’t have a timid dog (she got out and I found 14 hours later running across Mopac luckily because she knows my car!) and they were there to help during the whole entire thing. They also have an app for rewards to save you money on all things you purchase and to keep you updated on anything you pet needs!Sorry for the long review but I need you all to know how much they truly saved Mya we are forever greatful!
Weve used Hill Country Animal Hospital for years and have always been please with their caring and nurturing of our pets. Theyre always on time with appointments and follow up afterwards to make sure everything is going well and that we understand any instructions for medications and care.
Lucy, my seven year old Siamese cat, returned to her lively self after her visit to Hill Country Animal Hospital. She did have a minor infection, but also was showing great stress due to outside construction on our building. I adopted her from Austin Pets Alive when she was five and a half. Her vet spent time with me discussing possible solutions to her issues. All in all I got immediate help when I needed it. Both Lucy-cat and I greatly appreciate it.
Love HCAH! Very friendly and caring staff, always patient with my special pup and hyper girl! We moved about a year ago and found HCAH - they dont push meds, work with you and your dog on the best options, always available and authentic in their care! We love them!! :)
Our sixteen year old beagle has been a regular at Hill Country Animal Hospital all of his life. We have not only taken Boscoe in for the usual yearly exams, but also for day care, boarding, bathing, and for the intermiittant emergencies that have always been a part of our his life. After getting into some rat poison that we thought would be completely out of his reach, losing part of his tail to a slamming door, jumping out of our car as it rolled down the street, all within a few week period, my tears began to pour as Dr. Holcomb explained that, once again, Boscoe was out of the woods. This fine man comforted me in his sweet, genuine manner. Dr. Jim Holcomb is not only adept at his profession, he cares deeply about his animals and their owners. Now, as Boscoe reaches his golden years, the staff comes out to warmly greet him as they carry him in for his weekly injections. So, we are most thankful for our association with this clinic and its wonderful staff, to say the least.
We started going to HCAH when we first got our dog 10 years ago. Hes been nowhere else. From grooming to annual checkups to doggie day care to surgery, HCAH has been great. Our dog jumps out of the car, tail wagging, every time we show up. I would not hesitate to recommend HCAH to anyone.
I understand some people have a ton of money to spend on their animals, and the location is perfect for them to charge what they do (Westlake). Here are my two experiences there and why I will never go back.First time, brought my cat in as he was limping. They did xrays, found nothing wrong and sent me home with pain meds ($$) and no diagnosis. I get home and promptly threw away the medicine and looked at my cats paw and there was a gash on it. They never even noticed!Second time- a few years later, so hoping for better care as the location is close to me. Bring in my kitten, they tell me she needs shots and a test for FL, so I say yes. After leaving with another enormous bill from them and being told I would hear from them with results for test (no call/nothing), I cancelled her appointment for her spay. Luckily I did as I called them to ask what the rate was and they told me $400-$600!! That is ridiculous! A good vet can do this for about $200 or less.No more, and I tell all my friends with pets as their are better places to go that wont rip you off.
My yorkie when bein seen for diarhea Amy Michelle Toth, DVM saw her and said all her tests were fine her but she wanted her to stay the weekend so she could be hooked to an IV to hydrate her..Even though I told her my dog is never away from me and has severe seperation anxiety. She could have just injected her with fluids and medicine and sent us home but instead insisted on keeping her. I live 10 minutes away and before I got home they were telling me to come back my dog of 8 years had just mysteriously stopped breathing and was dead. The last time I held my dog they all noticed she did not want to go with them. Sadistic women insisted it was for her own well being. I should have listened with my heart instead of my head because now my sweet precious baby is dead. I will NEVER TRUST HILL COUNTRY ANIMAL HOSPITAL AGAIN. They murdered my most precious baby and now I am left with complete devistation in my heart and my families hearts. BEWARE.....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE...Last photo of our beloved Yaya after we brought her home. Her body was still warm.

2022-06-30I recently got a kitten and started going to Hill County Animal Hospital. So far I am very happy with them. The staff is friendly, the vets are thorough and do not rush your visit, they follow up with any concerns or necessary care, and there is little wait time. It’s easy to book an appointment online and you pull up and text them when you arrive. They even have an online store for pet supplies. Highly recommend!

2021-12-09I never give reviews but I had the best experience at Hill Country Animal Hospital so I have to share! My kitten was not feeling well, and when I brought her in at 7 am, she had accidentally gone #2 in her carrier. I’m so grateful for my vet tech Erika who was so kind, patient, and joyful— she went above and beyond! She cleaned the carrier for me and put in a fresh towel for my kitten to ride home in. She was the best! Both Erika and Dr. Melissa were so kind and gentle to my kitten and had a lot of expertise to share with me, and it was so appreciated. Not only was the staff super helpful and kind so early in the morning, but the building was nice and clean too! I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who wants the very best care for their pets!

2022-06-28Our Brittany Spaniel, Jed, boarded at Hill Country Animal for 6 days this month. The overall process booking him was very clear as to what I needed to do. I called midway through his visit and they emailed me a paragraph on how he was doing and a great picture of him hanging out with his friends in the shade of a huge tree. This is not the first time he has been there and I am very pleased about everyone at this great place. We have been clients of them for many years and have never had a bad experience. They are great!

2022-06-04So often veterinarians will talk down to me because I appear young and I have a special needs dog. I’ve been told many times I should consider giving him to a more capable family. Not here. Everyone was extremely kind and recognized how loving and good my little man is. They made us both feel safe and I look forward to having my dog be a patient here!

2022-05-24Hill Country is not my primary vet, but they are my back up vet and they do take good care of me when I need help right away. They are always kind and caring. They also went above and beyond when I had to say goodbye to my most beloved of all beloved animal friends. Out in this area, they are for sure who I would go to.

2022-05-05Dr Kemnitz saw my 9yr old dog. I felt heard when I expressed my concerns regarding her health. He and his staff thoroughly checked all of my concerns, clearly explained any issues, and did not nickel and dime me. I was charged a flat office exam fee and that was all. I thought that was very good business. There was a scheduling glitch but they righted it immediately which was appreciated as well.

2022-04-13The convenience of the drive thru at this vet is invaluable. The staff and Dr. Holcomb have been amazing from doggie day care, regular visits for my new puppy to our recent neuter surgery. I highly recommend them!

2022-07-22I always am treated very kindly and so is my dog, who is a big American Staffordshire Terrier (Pitbull). They are always so accommodating and really care about her. They always remember that she has her little quirks such as not being fond of men and love that even the guys will talk to her in a sweet voice in order to gain her trust. Love this place so much!!!

2022-05-28Great availability. Did the work to transfer the dogs records from our former (unresponsive) vet, made one appt for both dogs which old vet wouldnt do, provided the collar tag for rabies vaccine which old vet wouldnt do, sees our dogs on Saturday which old vet wouldnt do, called and texted to confirm our appt, changed our appt time on a Friday when we had a last minute family emergency, and provided overall good care. Our new vet. Heads and tails 😁 better experience than weve been getting.

2022-04-28We have had six animals since Our first visit at Hill Country Animal Hosp. Through many difficult experiences, every single veterinarian or person there is amazing! Even the dog drew groomer!
