I would definitely recommend this place! The atmosphere, food, and staff were all great. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive. I had the Buddha bowl and everyone else had the French onion dip sandwich, bbq wings, pulled pork sandwich, and brownie/ice cream dessert; everything was really tasty! You won’t regret it!
Stopped in along our travels on a whim sense many restaurants were closed for the holiday weekend. This was a great find! Food was great and Claire is awesome. You know how some servers make it look easy because they are good at their work, but you know serving is not easy? Claire is one of those talented servers. She offered valuable wine suggestions and anticipated everything perfectly.
My family and I stop by this place wondering if it would be good. Well!, the food was amazing. Plenty of flavor. The gravy on the chicken fried chicken is one of the best that Ive tasted. The Chipotle burger was the burger of the day. Our waitress was amazing and friendly. Diffently going back.
What a great place! Driving through and decided to give it a try. We had the fillet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The fillet was perfectly cooked and delicious. The potatoes and asparagus were wonderfully seasoned. There is a truly great selection of spirits as well. The staff were also amazing. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.
Food and drinks are always great, and on that same note, service is always very slow. Once we order, we get our stuff quickly. But the last 3 times now we have had to wait a while for a server to even acknowledge us. One they figure out we are sitting in their section, the servers are always very friendly.
The food was great. I had deviled eggs, and the bacon and jalapeño set them above most I have had. The seared ahi was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. The lettuce wraps were good, but not great. The steak was so flavourful and again, cooked to perfection. The asparagus accompaniment was on point with a little blackened char and seasoned just right. The whiskey menu was plentiful, but not updated... so your best bet is to pick from the bottles on hand or ask for some assistance. If ordering off the menu, you will find that a lot of what is listed is no longer available. I will definitely be back.
Great quaint place with outdoor patio and live music... We were passing through town and wanted a place to meet up with another couple who lived nearby... Location and menu was appealing... all four of us loved our different choices of food.. Great service even with a very busy kitchen load... definitely a place to return to...
I went to Homespun recently with a group of 7. Every single person got something different and every person did not like their food. Everyone’s food came out cold, some were too salty and some had no taste at all. The only reason it has two stars is because of the cute atmosphere, although slightly dirty, and the deviled eggs. The staff were very nice and accommodating but the food was just so expensive for the quality. Choose somewhere else.
We were driving through town and picked this place out of the blue. Best decision for a good meal!! I had the daily special, bacon cheeseburger, which I added an egg to it and picked the veggies medley instead of fries. BEST VEGGIE MEDLEY EVER!! It was very well cooked with a good mix of colored bell peppers, brussel sprouts, squash, onions etc. Not bland like a most places. 👍👍 My husband had the chicken fried steak w/mashed potatoes and more veggie medley!!😍 We also ordered dessert, chocolate peanut butter cake, it was AMAZING!!! Will definitely return and tell others. Service was also prompt and our waitress had a great attitude. Thank you!
When we were first seated, it took ages for a waiter to come over. After ordering appetizers, a waitress brought out appetizer plates that still had soapy water on them. Needless to say we did not use them.My brother and I had ordered tea, but after what was approximately a cup (as the waitress took my cup to refill when it was only half down), I begun to feel very sick. I ended up vomitting my chips and queso outside. My brother also felt sick. I suspect it was whatever container that had the tea in it was not properly rinsed, and therefore made my brother and myself sick. I cant imagine other people ordering tea and getting sick for the same reason.
A great local place. The drinks are great and the food is outstanding. We had lettuce wraps, fried green tomatoes and tuna. Each was great. The service is good as well. My only compliant is that that bring out each dish as they are ready and so it took 20 minutes for our table of 6 to get all our food.
We ate on the patio & enjoyed live music with our meal. Chicken fried steak was a generous size, lightly breaded, & with tasty garlic potatoes & roasted green beans. Shrimp and grits was tender & buttery. Could have used a little more spice in the batter of the CFS, but it wasnt anything pepper couldnt solve. Our 4 year-old also lived the playground in the back!
Good little spot. Has a small town feel. Great service from our waiter. The food was good but not great. We came during brunch on a Sunday. Wife ordered the fried green tomatoes and the BLT. I ordered the chicken waffles. We had the chips & queso. Queso tasted like velveeta. Wasnt a fan of it for restaurant pricing. Again the food is good but not amazing to where it deserves a 5 star rating. I would come back again to try other foods on the menu.
I loved this place and cant wait to try it again! I very rarely ever get chicken fried anything as I exceeded my quota when I was younger, but the fried chicken was fantastic. The mashed potatoes and squash medley were also delicious and the squash was firm as it prepared as ordered and not sitting in a warming pan. My friend had chicken tacos and black beans and loved both with the only minor glitch being a lack of salsa which the restaurant doesnt carry, just a warning to salsa enthusiasts. The service was also fantastic and our waitress made good suggestions as we ordered. She really knew the kitchen and restaurant well and was very friendly and informative. This is a great local restaurant that Im happy to support with my business.
This restaurant has the best food that I have come across in all my travels. The chef they have has trained in culinary schools and is brilliant with the dishes that he comes up with. Do yourself a favor and come try this restaurant. The waiters are very attentive also.
If it were possible to not even give 1 star i would. Why? Because as the waitress was asking if we wanted inside or outside dining the man behind the bar interrupted her and told her that all they would serve would be drinks and some simple bar foods. She looked at him surprised and we inquired why was that? He said because the kitchen was too busy and was behind and they needed a break before the evening crowd came in! We got there around 4pm. He said if we wanted to sit at the bar and have drinks and bar food snacks that would be fine. We told him no...we came for a meal and left. Very disappointed and found it interesting that the person ready to seat us and take care of us was not aware of this issue? I can assure you we went somewhere else where the place of business was very glad to take care of us and happy to have our business. I cannot give an establishment anything but 1 or less stars and cannot say anything good about them when they basically let the bartender call the shots on who they will or will not service. I cannot support a place of business like that no matter how well they may be recommended by others. This act was most unprofessional and my good money was spent elsewhere. Good luck!
A great local joint - best enjoyed on off nights and off times - avoid busy times or be prepared to wait..and wait…and waitPros :Staff always friendlyBeers always coldMakes a good cocktailEntertainment out back is always funSeats out front usually have some wood burning nearbyShrimp & Grits always off the chartsThe chicken salad is solidCons:They struggle to manage wait times - they just don’t seem to be able to effectively estimate how long it takes for tables, for service -takeout is a real pain point - you could easily wait 60 minutes past the time the app tells you a to-go order will be readyTiny tiny bar
Interesting to read how rude this establishment is in the reviews. My wife and her friends made the trip this weekend,They were seated out back on the porch, its a familiar spot for minorities to be seated if you read the other reviews. After being told they didnt have anything available inside, then waitress comes out and asked them why they were outside as there were plenty of seats inside ...... Interesting right? The party of 4 was ignored while everyone else was served and tended too. Shame on this type of blatant act of we dont want your kind here. There food came out an hour after the orders were placed and the best part. Each plate was delivered one at a time spaced out. Drinks took forever. 😐Long story short, Be aware of the lack of professionalism here.
Made reservations for my birthday at 9 AM for 6 PM. Arrived 10 minutes early. Were told they gave our table to some one else because the hostess was new and made a mistake. The one available table was reserved for a honeymoonCouple by the fireplace that they had made 3 weeks ago and they would not give it to us. They wanted to seat us outside in the enclosed area but we declined. We decided to wait for the next available table and would wait at the bar that we could hardly get to. When we sat they told us we could not sit there because our grandson was only 20. We then decided this was not the place for us and left. All they had to say was your table will be ready in 10-15 and we would have been fine. Very unprofessional and disorganized. They then called us 10 minutes later and told us our table was ready and if we were still in the area did we want to come back? Oh, heck no! Not going g to try this place again. Rude!
Ownership wont pay good wages so its terribly understaffed. Food took forever and the manager or owner let the wait staff to come apologize to us instead of doing it themselves. Extremely unprofessional. The play area out back is the best thing the restaurant has going for it.
The food was good. The place was pretty snug...outdoor dining available. All organic, locally sourced clean food. The food was a cleaner version of tavern, sandwiches, chicken fried chicken, Mac and cheese...cute farm to table ambiance and good service despite being shorthanded. No wait seating sans a reservation. A little pricey for such a basic flavor palette considering its location. Still worth the drive.
They genuinely do not care.We came in Wednesday night about 45 min before closing, sat on the front patio and were thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere. We had dogs with us so I went in to inform the hostess where we sat and make sure that was ok. She brought us menus and flatware, and the good service stopped there. Our waitress never came out to ask for our order. My husband went in and placed it at the bar. Over an hour later, still no one came out. We went in to check on our food only to find the entire staff having an end of night drink, paying no mind to us. The bartender asked if we were ‘ready to close out’ and my husband said we never got our food. Turns out the chef brought it out, but none of the staff knew who placed the order, so they just threw it away.*We we’re the ONLY people still there.*Clearly they have money to burn and don’t need customers. I’d strongly encourage you to find another place for dinner.
Both the pickup service and food were absolutely awful. I put in my order online at 12:09. Pickup was scheduled for 12:38. I got the restaurant at 12:46. Didn’t actually get the order in my hands until 1:09. The entire reason I ordered pickup online was to NOT wait around at the restaurant. They gave me free fries, but they were unsalted and soggy. The sandwich was dry and flavorless. For $15 and an extra 30 minutes of waiting, this food should’ve been great, but it wasn’t. It was awful. I only ate it because I was starving by the time I got my food. The only redeeming parts of my experience were the bartender who was slammed, but was clearly concerned and put in the effort. It was her that ended up grabbing my food, not the waitress that was supposed to. The garlic mashed potatoes were also decent, but nothing to write home about.Overall, horrible experience and I will not be coming back ever again. I wish I could’ve received a refund because it was 100% not worth the time or money.
It is by no means the greatest place to eat, but they have a decent idea and really do try. Food appears to be homemade and tastes good. However, there seems to be an inverse relationship between cost and portions with places like the Homespun Kitchen. For example, it is $14 for one waffle and 4 chicken tenders. I have included pictures of the menu so you can see for yourself. I would recommend eating here only of you happen to have extra cash that is burning a hole in your pocket. The owner only responds to the positive reviews, so Im doubtful of an acknowledgement.
I went with my family and Nick took great care of us! We had some fantastic fried green tomatoes with chicken salad, the best mac and cheese my mom has ever had, deep fried jalapeños and more... to top it off the cakes are amazing, in particular I would have the peanut butter chocolate one at my wedding and the rest of the fam fell in love with the key lime pie. In all, great service, great food and a great place. 10/10 would go again; see you on Saturday for brunch!
We drove 35 miles from NW Austin to try Homespun. Way overpriced for a cramped restaurant and one that serves customers on picnic tables. The potato soup wad horrible! $8 a bowl which was actually a cup! Salty and way too much pepper. Never in my life have I not been able to finish a bowl of potato soup! Burgers were fresh but flavorless, and the rolls were smaller than the burger which made a mess while attempting to eat them. That being said, our server, Luke, was the best. Our assigned server never came to our table as promised, although we could see her yapping with some other employees while Luke carried them on his back! We liked the garlic mashed potatoes, too, as well as the live music provided our friends, Michael Lawsage and Tammy Hickman. Additionally, a couple in front of us left when told there would be a 35 minute wait. We mentioned we knew the duo performing and were seated at their guests table. When we got seated we couldnt help but notice all the empty tables and space available where the turned away couple could have been seated.
Dropped in for Lunch. Very busy inside and outside on patio. Seated promptly, quick friendly service from Raonel. Everything is made in house. Chicken Fried Chicken and hand mashed potatoes very tasty with house veggies squash. Half the tables we saw at least one order of Fried Green Tomatoes with Chicken salad and we had that also; yummy goodness. Kudos to the Kitchen and Front of the House!
The food is sub par, but with how rude the staff and owner act you’d think the food was incredible. If the food was actually good, I wouldn’t have minded the rude attitude from the owners and glares I got from the staff for being there before dinner. If you don’t want people in the dining room before dinner, then close it. Instead they were just passive aggressive and unwelcoming. Not to mention there was a hair in my appetizer.
We got the fried pickles and jalapeños and the deviled eggs for appetizers, and they were really good! I got the chicken salad and fried green tomato tower for my entree, and it was delish. My friend said the mac and cheese was good too.Theyre dog and kid friendly, with two outdoor seating areas. The larger area in the back where we sat is completely covered and has quite a few TVs.Definitely a great local restaurant. 👍
The service was awesome! Very attentive and genuinely kind people. Outdoor seating with live music and heaters, as well as dog friendly makes it the perfect setting for Sunday brunch. We ordered the country plate and the Mercer street Benedict and they were just okay. Seemed pre-prepared and assembled to order. I could be wrong, but it tasted like everything was either from a frozen bag or in a warming drawer for a while. I was disappointed to see no biscuits or pancakes on the menu (although I saw a pancake option on the kids menu?? So they’re there!). We will try again because, like I said, service and setting were too good not to!
Wonderful salads and appetizers. Shrimp tostados and deviled eggs recommended. My party enjoyed Bloody Marys and a Paso Robles wine recommended by server. Prompt and very polite service from beginning to end on three different occasions. My party enjoyed the burgers, shrimp and grits, and salmon. The steak looked great if you are meat eateries! Live music on patio some evenings. A must eat place after a day at the wineries, distilleries, and breweries!
Eerie vibes from the beginning. Hostess refused to make eye contact or smile. Restaurant was not busy but it took at least an hour for us to get our food. Had to wave at our waitress to get her attention and we were seated in an outdoor patio that had a big wasp nest right next to our table. My girlfriend is vegetarian and specifically asked for the meat product on the side. They served her the meat on the side but her sandwich still had bacon in it. Will not be coming back.
Overall bad experience. Homespun seems to be going downhill and they(owners/or managers) have lost sense of customer service and how to provide a experience for when they have paying customers. After it taking 15/20 minutes for a server to come get the drink order, took another 10 minutes or so to get the drinks, appetizer took 15/20 minutes and then are entree plates were either wrong or not even brought out to us and the bill was still $100.. and the manager (did not catch her name) just have an excuse of being short staff as I explain my frustration, (poor customer service)... next time let the PAYING customer know “hey we are short staff, so everything is taking a while to come out” instead of being SELFISH and just trying to get unhappy customer to pay for over priced burgers and salads.. will be a while till we are back and we are locals too.. very disappointed. I recommend asking if they are full staff when you call for to go orders or when you come to the restaurant to eat. I will be sure to spread the word too of the downhill collapse of homespun.. recommend reading, The Service Culture Handbook, might learn something instead of give excuses.
After searching for places to eat in Dripping Springs this seem to be a good spot. I guess I should’ve know since it had only 4 stars w/677 reviews maybe not the best spot. The service was excellent and the live music was nice on a Sunday afternoon. The main complaint I have is the food and compared with the prices. The burger of the day is $18 I mean 18 bucks what is this burger made out of. The prices of the food does not equal to the quality or ambience of the restaurant. We sat outside on picnic tables and dirt floors. Now mind you I’m totally down for some picnic tables and dirt floors if done correctly but the outside just looks run down and more like a dive bar patio. I ordered the Turkey Swiss which is $13 and subpar. My wife got the $16 steak burger which was literally less than equal to a burger I could make at home. What I’m trying to say is if you’re going to charge $16 for a burger make it worth what the guest is paying for. Last but not least I ordered my son the child’s chicken strips and fries and get this $8 for a child’s plate. I’ve worked in restaurants for years and have not seen a child’s plate this pricey unless it was steak or shrimp. A little tip for the owner or whoever decides the prices. You price a child’s plates to bring guests in not break their checkbook. Typically child’s plates are not a profit item they are in place to bring that demographic into your restaurant (I.e. families). If you’re smart you lower the child’s plates and your other items or bring you’re other items and restaurant up to those prices. Parents will spend more money on higher margins items like alcohol if you don’t gouge them on their child’s dinner.
Cute little place. Steak burger was great and deviled eggs sooo good. Margaritas not great but over all fun experience. Staff very friendly. But a real shame to run out of ketchup and mayonnaise. Apparently theyve be out for days. Go to the grocery store and figure it out. If you like your fries with ketchup it kinda stinks to not enjoy fully. But not anything on the burger makes it drier than needs to be!!!
Really wanted to like this restaurant! Food looks good, great atmosphere. Our server was Rafe and he was great. Friendly and funny. Unfortunately the bartender working on Wednesday, the 28th of April is complete trash. We ordered a beer and martini and waited almost 30 minutes to get the drinks. We ate our appetizer with no drinks to go with it. I then ordered some shots, which the bartender chose to NOT make, because she simply didnt like the way the waiter, Rafe printed it on the ticket. My wife went to the bar to ask where TF our drinks were, and the old ugly hag working at the bar had a bad attitude and told her to order through our waiter instead of coming to the bar! She left the ticket sitting there on the bar and was yapping and drying cups instead of making our drinks. After that happened, we just got up and walked out. There is no reason to leave your customers waiting so long for drinks and refusing to make our drinks We ordered. You guys have a lot of potential at this restaurant if you fire that garbage bartender. Rafe was really nice and we liked him.
We went on July 4 and they were pretty busy but no problem getting a table. We spoke to the woman at the bar, at least three waitstaff and a guy who appeared to be proprietor. ALL of them were super friendly. Judging by another one of the waitstaff who we didn’t talk to personally but was involved in some impromptu dancing shenanigans with a lady at the next table (who didn’t know this fellow), I’m betting that the rest of the staff was very friendly as well. The place was very clean. Nothing fun to report there but if a restaurant isn’t clean it puts a damper on the whole experience. The bar is small but VERY well stocked. PVW 14 year, Willet, etc. Mixed drinks were excellent as well.Breakfast was killer. Fresh fruit, fried green tomatoes, and an egg/tomato/pepper/potato skillet hash sort of thing were all spot on.
Literally the worst of the worst. Made an order for pick up and said it would take about 45 minutes. Went in and was told 20 more minutes. Waited again, went in and was told again wait 20 more minutes. Asked to cancel the order and a refund/receipt which apparently isn’t possible for them to do. It wasn’t even busy! Real solid restaurant you guys have here.
We always visit Homespun when were in town. This trip was disappointing...would have given 2 stars except that every other trip here has been 5 stars. The lobster mac&cheese was made with imitation crab meat. When I brought it to the waitress attention, she said that they just realized it and asked if we needed anything else 🤨 I said that we definitely didnt want that mac&cheese. She took it away while we ate a delicious smoked steak. We finished our steak, and they brought out a new mac&cheese. This time the cheese was soupy, there were no breadcrumbs, and the lobster was placed on top...chewy and bland. They comped it and gave us free dessert. The cheesecake was good but frozen in the center. At least the drinks were stiff and delicious!
Cute little restaurant. Food and atmosphere were good, but their prices imply more of a fine dining experience. This was not the case. Everyone working there was in high school and it seemed to be their first job. Multiple girls (employees) hanging out in the only restroom while customers waited to go. Our server was hanging out in the back instead of taking care of us, her only table. We could see employees standing around chit-chatting. Had to wave our hands and ask for drink refills. Ordered a bottle of wine and was told “it’s a twist top, so you can just open it.” Speaking of the wine - we ordered a $46 bottle, then found out it’s $9 at Walmart.Overall it was a good new experience and we had fun, but we won’t be going back and I don’t recommend.
Shrimp Tostadas were amazing as was the Bloody Mary. The chicken tenders, chicken fried steak was nothing to write home about. And buttermilk waffles were awful. Hard. As. A. Rock. Food took a long time but that’s typical today. Like many restaurants, there was a sign advertising needing waitstaff & kitchen help. Our server was really good and attentive.
We have eaten several times here before and it was good. This time it took forever to get our food . The waitress called Simpson was awful and when we asked her why it took so long, she said a lot of people came in at one time. Well all the people in after us got their food before us! Her reply was that she put in our order on time, I don’t believe that! I think she was too busy looking at her phone to check on our order 😟.
Didnt love the food. I got the deviled eggs (good), chicken wraps (meh) and turkey sandwich (also meh). My main issue with my chicken wraps and turkey sammie is that I feel like the meat wasnt good quality. If Im gonna eat meat (which is rare ish these days), I want it to be good quality. Kind male waiter (owner?), but front of house overwhelmed, forgetful and not welcoming. Big fat disappointment for me.
I hate to give a bad review but unfortunately our experience was not good. The place is really nice. Love the outside sitting. The staff was friendly (always a plus). Those are the reasons why I gave it a 2 star instead of no stars. The food was cold, no flavor and over priced (the witness took it back, reheated it, and it was still cold. The service was extremely slow and they werent busy. Drinks were OK. Not the best but not the worst.
I used to love this place. But 2020 has definitely hit the service of this place hard. I used to see the same waitresses and they were always nice and attentive. I went yesterday and got the worst service yet. No communication with us that the kitchen was backed up, the people who order the chicken said it was rubbery and gross and it took over an hour to get some of our food. We had to cancel our appetizers since they never came and we werent interested in staying a minute longer than we needed to be there. Wait till the world gets back to normal to dine in or order to-go so you arent stuck with the service.
Came here while traveling from out of town. Food was good and our server was nice and checked on us often.HOWEVER- we were delivered either the wrong salad, or it was missing two high priced toppings that were listed on the menu for a high priced meal (bacon and avocado). asked for our steak medium rare and got it overly WELL DONE. was told the steak would come with green beans & broccoli, but was given asparagus...other small problems with the service that could have easily been avoided with some attention to detail on the employees end, both the kitchen staff and the server.on a more positive note- cute ambiance and great live music.
Ordered several dishes as take out, including appetizers and entrees. All were superb quality. In fact, I called to tell them it was some of the best food I had eaten in a very long time. She was concerned that I was calling with a problem with my order. I told her if I had to complain it was that the food is too good, as it would mean I would be ordering more than I should in the future.
We got there and there wasnt a wait but due to social distancing we had to sit outside with heaters. The service is slow but the food was very tasty. The chips and white queso were nothing outstanding or special. The pulled pork sandwhich had great flavor and the BBQ sauce was phenomenal. The grilled chicken sandwhich was cooked well and had plenty of cheese and bacon. Small things like asking for straws and not receiving them. Waiting a while for a check then for the check and payment to be picked up. Overall a bit pricey but the taste of the food might mean we order to go every once in a while when were in town.
Low quality food. Ordered the Mac and cheese and pulled pork sandwich. The mac n cheese had no bacon at all. Cold soggy fries, soggy wet bun with dry meat on the pulled pork sandwich. Order was $30. I called to let them know my food was not right and the person on the phone just told me they will try and do better next time.
I hate to leave a negative review on a local restaurant because I want them all to succeed, but I feel obligated. The small inside dining room was almost empty on a Saturday night, but was still a tight squeeze because there were supplies stacked up around the walls. (The beer on top of one stack fell over during our appetizer - luckily it did not land in the lady sitting close. The staff simply restacked the beer, leading to the assumption they were going to serve it later.)After a long wait, our water came out in styrofoam cups and the waitress took our drink and appetizer order. Again, after a long wait my guest received her drink (less than mediocre), but I never got my perfect Manhattan. The waitress apologized for it not being prepared, but didnt offer an explanation or a substitute.By the time the appetizer came out, we had been waiting way too long. When we asked the waitress for the check, she was prepared for it and not at all surprised we were leaving. The only upside was that she compd our water, one drink and seared ahi.I cant recall ever walking out of a restaurant after sitting down, but leaving was the only way to save the evening.
Don’t be fool by the old country look of the place, not much fried anything here. Top quality sandwiches, soups, and salads. Sandwiches served proper sized, not monster size but completely filling. Also has some gourmet touches that surprises from the look of the place. Worth the visit
FACTS ONLY: made reservation. Arrived on time. Table was given to someone else. Stuff happens. Waited patiently. Seated a few minutes later. Waited a few minutes at table before even being acknowledged by our server (scott, who did not bother to introduce himself; only found out his name after asking him later after me trying to express some concerns/complaints). Finally got some water and tea. Ordered some food. Later tried to order a couple drinks for me and my date (36&30 yrs old). Scott refused to place my drink order (two drinks total) SOLELY because my date did not have her ID. There is absolutely nothing unlawful about me ordering two individual drinks for myself. I tried expressing that concern to scott. He and some other lady (owner/manager maybe?), told me they just dont do that. I went on to tell scott that our service up till that point was already not very good and this scenario only compounded my frustration. Scott immediately turned to the next table and asked them aloud if their service was bad. Completely ignored my concerns (an already paying customer) and called me out to his other customers. I gave up trying at that point. Finished choking down what food i could as i wanted my date to eat even though i was sick of the experience and completely lost my appetite. Asked for check. Gave the hostess (sweet young woman named jessie) a legit tip for being so friendly. Gave cash tip to scott and clearly wrote CASH TIP ONLY on receipt and took photo. Well see if he charges my card accordingly or not. Im really not certain given the way he treated me.Verdict??? You tell me.
I scheduled a reservation for a birthday lunch days before the lunch. We arrived and were told a table was being cleared and it would be a few minutes. We waited 10 - 15 minutes for the table to be cleared and then our table was pulled for another reservation that changed their party size last minute. A different staff member approached us and said our reservation time was 10 minutes ago and due to being late they could no longer offer us a table inside (even though we had been waiting 10 minutes plus for the table). We then got seated outside in 90 plus degree weather and waited 45 minutes and never received service. We left and will not return or recommend Homsepun to others. This was definitely a frustrating experience especially for a special occasion.
The food was very good. Mine was luke warm when I got it. Two of us received our food about an hour after we ordered it and the rest of our table (three more) received their food about 1.5 hours. My daughter asked for a refill of her drink at about the thirty minute mark, and an hour later I pointed out to the waiter that he had forgotten to bring it back. The only reason I gave three stars is because the flavor of the food was very good. The wait was unacceptable.
Thought we would try Homespun Kitchen and Bar today for lunch. Walked in and dinning room was completely empty but they would not seat us because we didnt have a reservation. Glad they can turn down paying customers because they wont get a second chance for my business.
Amazing food and wonderful dining experience! Cozy yet lovely seating with great live music outside. I cant remember the name of the red grapefruit cocktail that I had, but it was delicious and fresh. I will definitely be back, and will bring more friends with me the next time. Oh, and service was great too, attentive but they dont hover. One of the best dinners and one of the best evenings Ive had in a long time.
Stopped by on the way back home after visiting Fredericksburg and was surprised to find this humble home style restaurant along the way. The food was absolutely delicious, its made when you order and they say they source all their ingredients locally. The staff were very accommodating as well, I am happy to support small family businesses like this
We popped in here during our visit to the area. The atmosphere was nice, staff was very friendly, drink and food options were pretty good. My only reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars, is that I got the filet on special, ordered medium rare and it was definitely medium well ☹️. I was honest with the staff and they wanted to make it right, but I declined a newly cooked steak since it would take a long while to redo. Otherwise, this place was nice and I would visit again.
Worst take out Ive ever had. See, we were visiting from out of town. I had been asking my husband for salad pretty much all day so we were pretty excited to pick up our order. So we get home and realize they had forgotten to give us half our order-my salad. No biggie, we call them and they kept asking for a receipt which they didnt even give us! Good grief! They had no clue what the missing order was!!!!!!! At this point, with very hungry tummies and a chicken fried steak getting cold, we had just wanted them to help us with standard customer service but they never offered to make another salad or make it up to us!!!!!! We decided to just get refunded and I guess, no food for me! I had only gone a whole day without substantial food. But the cherry on top of the ice cream here is they had given us ONE SPOON for our chicken fried steak. Wow. Unbelievable
So, my first and last experience at this place. Traveling to Dripping Springs for some baseball we had a bit of extra time and wanted to experience a local establishment for a couple of drinks and some food. We walked into this place @ 3:40pm today, Memorial Day to be greeted by what I felt was a highly intoxicated, possibly medicated hostess. We asked if we could be possibly sat in the patio area for which we were accommodated. The Hostess indicated she was not our waiter, but took our drink order and said she would pass it along. After waiting a few minutes a young man approached us and asked for our drink order and said he wasn’t our waiter, but would pass it along. Again, we waiting for a longer period this go around and no one ever came. It was then we decided to leave. As we were walking out a young man asked if we were moving indoors or leaving. I responded, leaving since no one wanted to wait on us. No effort for retention! My thoughts they were to busy working to close or perhaps our tone was a bit much considering no one else in the establishment matched our description. It’s hard not to consider these days. Oh well, not coming back.
I was confused. The prices said fine dining, but the burger came on a tin tray. $15 appetizers, but Mason jar glasses for drinks. The food was passable, but I think they need to decide on their theme. Family or fine dining, and stick with one or the other. Dont think Ill go back. The wait staff was great though.
Loved this place! Stopped of for brunch on our way out of town. We ordered as many things across the menu as we could because everything sounded so good we had a hard time choosing. Tried all the dishes we ordered and it was amazing!!! The food was fresh. The bloody Mary is practically a meal in its self. Unless you are extremely hungry one of these will work for two people. And as if the food and drinks werent awsome enough by themselves there was live music on Sunday . Will always top by now when in Dripping Springs!
Service was incredibly slow so I never even got to taste food. After waiting 20 minutes to even be acknowledged, the waitress brought me water, said she had to check to see if they had what I wanted to order, and never came back. So I left. She was nice and the hostess was nice, but still.
Although the food was good, my wife and I had some negative results. First of all, when we walked into the outdoor dining area, there were dirty dishes left on 3 or 4 tables. There was silverware laying in the dirt under the table. There was even a napkin wrapped bundle of silverware on the ground. We saw one table cleared and was not sanitized before 3 people were seated at the table.I ordered chicken-fried steak and server asked me if I wanted gravy on the side and I said yes. Didnt happen, gravy was on top. Server never came back until he was seating other people. We were there about 130pm and they were NOT busy. We probably will not be returning.
Awful service, our server was rude, slowest order ever. My group of 8 got here at 11:50 and we drove an hour to get to this place so we all had to use the restroom, there was only one so we waited about 15 minutes for everyone to go. We were then seated and after ordering just waters we waited 30 minutes to get them. We then put in our order and waited 45 minutes and we still did not have food. After asking the waiter what was taking so long he rudely said “you guys were told there would be a wait from the manager when you called.” We let them know we were just going to leave and he assured us our food would be out in the next 30 minutes. The food was good but we were there for 2 HOURS. Do not expect any kind of urgency here.
This is a great spot for original dishes. Terry was our waitress and was great, knowledgeable with the menu and friendly. The Skillet Macaroni with Steak was over the moon! The Shrimp Tacos (blackened) and the Chicken Tortilla Soup had lots of chicken!! This is a good stop in Dripping Springs.
We were just passing by and hungry. The place is cute, service is very attentive and the food of above average. Kind of expensive, but its understandable. I am not really into burgers, but their burger is GOOD. If I liked it - it means its good. Asparagus (I asked to substitute fries) was perfect.
We were very impressed with the food. Friendly service. Its a smaller building so dont expect a bunch of room but we were comfy. My husband even mentioned the comfort of the chairs we dined in. I had brunch, he had lunch and both were excellent. You could tell the freshness of the food that was used.
We drove from San Antonio for my birthday to hike at Pedernales and wanted a good, hearty meal afterwards. My significant other and I thought we had COVID for a moment the food was so tasteless. EVERYTHING needed seasoning. The fried pickles, chicken fried steak, fries, burger. Lets not forgot to mention the male waiter who was taking a leak right outside the building when we were leaving, then walked right back inside. Classless!
Homespun is an interesting place. Seating in the back, seating inside, and seating in the front of the restaurant are 3 entirely different atmospheres. The back is super casual with picnic tables and kid running around to/from the playground. Inside is nicer with leather chairs and romantic lighting. Food is ok, or good. There are some interesting menu options, but nothing was remarkable except for the peach cobbler. Yum! Salads were generous. Ingredients were fresh. Seafood and meat looked like nice quality. The booze menu is pretty extensive with several local beers and different wines featured. Service was very nice. Prices were reasonable.
I ordered the steak burger which had ground NY strip in the burger. However, the burger itself lacked flavor. It needed to be seasoned more. The bun was great and toasted very well. Also, I ordered the burger medium rare - it came out medium well. There were lipstick marks on my water glass, I had them exchange it. My wife liked her sandwich quite a lot though. For the price of $12-14 a plate, I wont be going back.
Slowest service in the greater Austin area. Had to ask 5 times for ketchup, it eventually showed up 20 mins later once we had finished our meal. Salads came out 10 mins after our main entrees. Food was good, but not worth the hassle of having to deal with the poor service.
We were driving through on the way home and decided to stop in for dinner. We had the chicken fried steak, chicken sandwich and macaroni and cheese. All tasted great and were made with fresh ingredients. While I did not have a drink, they had an extensive drinks menu. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in Dripping Springs and want some great homestyle food.
Id say keep looking, avoid. Not a good showing. The live music was the best part. Really, really bad service. Took forever to get food, one of three meals came out then another 25 minutes for other two. Had to go to bar to reorder drinks as the order was never entered. Almost two hours to get in and out. One dish was so salty it was inedible, so were driveing elsewhere for food. Then the server blamed covid pandemic. For her utter failing and sloth. That was a step too far, I would have at least had respect if she had said she was hot and hungover and was moving super slow and forgetting orders and running food. Weve been here a few times and noticed a decline in food quality and service. Used to be great. Not worth the money or the calories.
Agree w the other reviews that you come here for the atmosphere...the food (and portion sizes) is marginal. $18 for chicken fried steak, $14 for a hamburger? Cmon - I can think of many other places that I can spend $100 on a dinner for two with drinks in the area and feel much better about it.Drink prices - even at happy hour - were on the high side (I did like my Mule - was spot on).Having said that, should they decide to lower their prices on food I am sure the place will be packed on a Friday night.
One word. Amazing! We showed up with a party that pretty much maxed capacity inside and a large portion of outside. Service was awesome the entire time and they accommodated every need. Not one person in our party had any opinions of their food other than excellent. Dining here is an instant win!
We love coming here because the menu changes and there’s always something for everyone. The interior is nice and relaxing and there’s a playscape for the kids. Plus, they put on specials and special days like the cigar and steak nights. We’ve occasionally gotten runny Mac and cheese for the kids but they quickly fixed a new plate without hesitation and it was perfect. The turkey sandwich is awesome with roasted turkey. Flavors are excellent. The Bloody Mary drinks are amazing according to my friend. She’s never had a better one.
Partner and I showed up at a slow time, literally no other customers in this small place. We were immediately ignored by the bartender for a solid minute while she moved wine bottles from here to there, not bothering to pull her mask up. All visible kitchen staff had no masks on. Bartender finally deigns to go find a hostess on our behalf. We were seated and got waters, but my partner mentioned no masks in the kitchen and we considered just leaving. I went to the bathroom and there were a couple pictures touting how seriously theyve been taking COVID... I went back up to the bar under the pretense of seeing what they have on deck, but really it was just another opportunity to see that, even after they got sat with at least 3 more tables, still no one was wearing masks.Only the young lady actively serving us wore a mask. Fair warning to people who take the pandemic seriously.
Food was good about a year ago and recently. Got food to go, as I usually do. Chicken wings, dont bother Soft and just not tasty and the carrots that came with it looked half rotten! Buddah bowl with grilled chicken, taste like a pile of mush and none of the dressing they said came with it. HSK chicken sandwich, tasty but way over cooked. Besides that, the staff that greeted my husband on pickup was very rude and appeared drunk! Someone else came out and they were helpful. thinking of never going back.
I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. Friendly staff and employees. I went for lunch in the middle of the afternoon so it was quiet. Unfortunately, I have some life threatening food allergies and the regular menu is not safe for me to eat. However, I was able to find something I wanted and with the help of my waiter and an astute chef, I was served a tasty, satisfying, and safe meal. I so enjoyed my time at this establishment.
This was my first visit.Had lunch with 3 friends. I was told that the devils eggs are the best. It looked really appetizing. One had a salad and the other a BLT sandwich. Nobody complained.I had the French dip.Sadly there is no sweet tea. Yes, I could add sweetener but u like the option of choosing.Would I go again? Most likely.
Food is really good, service isgood, staff is friendly. Nice atmosphere inside, outdoor seating front, pavilion seating in back with a play area for a the younger kids. always has good live music. Normally food is served quickly, but it is a small kitchen and it can take a little longer to get food when there is a large crowd, but quality is always good no matter how busy they get.
This was our first and last visit. We had the Chicken Fried Steak and couldn’t believe the $13.00 fee for a lunch portion. Tasted ok. Nothing to write home about. Only had one choice of vegetable and when we asked about other options were were offered a salad instead. No mention of an additional charge but found out upon receiving the check that we were up charged for them. The way it was offered one wouldn’t have thought we’d have to pay extra.Another thing I didn’t understand was that they offer home cooking style menu here in Texas but didn’t offer sweet tea. Don’t get that. This is exactly the kind of restaurant that you’d expect it to be offered in.Service was good and fast. It’s just not someplace we’ll visit again.
This family owned restaurant is Soooooooo good! Small, initimate dining experience and the food portions were great, you leave there full!!! They do not skimp on food portions! The salmon was amazing and melted in my mouth!!! They were even kind enough to let me keep a wine glass as a souvenir! Would definitely return and if you are debating on whether to go here....GO!!!!! I will be returning for the giant plate of chips and queso i saw them delivering to another table 😁
This place has a great homey give and the food is good too. The reviews pointing out overpriced food are a bit too cynical. Youre getting great food and a great atmosphere with great service at prices that are more than reasonable and definitely comparable to the area. Everytime Ive visited Ive enjoyed myself and the only complaint Ive ever had is they ran out of Key Lime Pie! Thats a first world problem. Great job guys and keep it up!
Food and service is always great but definitely on the pricey side.Edit/update: has really gone down hill lately. Most recent visit, refused to let us sit outside and the host snapped at us for asking. As we left, saw other people were sitting outside.Probably won’t be back. Not worth it.
We stayed in wemberly and drove to drippings just to eat and have great cocktails. Our server for lunch was awesome the young bartender very welcoming and friendly. We went the following night and had such a nice server she was friendly and made sure we were always takin care of. The performer was great. We loved the atmosphere and the fact that we were there for our first anniversary and had such a great time we will definetly be coming back! The food at lunch was amazing and filling. The bathroom was very clean and homey! Parking was not an issue either.
This is the quintessential Texas Hill Country restaurant if you want to be surprised by the menu you are at the right place. They have live music at night a bar (that rivals any TV / Movie bar) with a drink menu that is mind blowing! So we arrive for my first visit , sit outside on benches under a canopy. There is a fire pit on the front porch and a kids play area out back. The bar has some unreal drinks - You must try the Bloody Mary if only to post a picture on your favorite social media. You will not believe it and I think they even have a piece of the Statue of Liberty in there.... The menu was short and sweet - Texas comfort food mixed with some surprises - Then there was Ahi Tuna on the Small Bits menu .... Really in Dripping Spring Texas?!?!?!? I have had great Tuna in places like Hawaii and Japan And Indonesia.... But Dripping Springs, Texas? So I ordered it and told the waitress wed order more in a bit... Honestly my expectations were low and I wanted to be able to make a graceful exit once they were realized........ and then the dish arrived - It looked perfect - Apprehensively I took a bite :) The texture was soft and glorious - the searing was the best I had ever tasted - the seasoning was spot on .... Just an amazing delight to my taste buds. And that night began a love affair with a little place called HomeSpun in Dripping Spring Texas.... I havent eaten my way through the entire menu but so far every bite has been better than expected (And my expectations are high)... For example the deviled eggs rival Liberty Kitchen in Houston and the Chicken Fried Steak rivals the Papas Brothers Hash House, the Dot all this makes my taste buds dream of the next visit. When you go get comfortable as your tummy will be thrilled :)
Food was OK. I mean its at least on the same level as Chilis or some other chain. The staff was courteous and attentive. Problem is the price of everything is just ridiculous. 15 dollars for an overcooked hamburger that was really nothing special and some very plain French fries. Chicken fried steak was on par with a mom and pop cafe. House wines were 12 dollars a glass. They should have given you the whole bottle for that price. it just wasnt that special. The building is clean but certainly not worthy of the upscale dining experience that menu prices suggest.Lastly... The band they had was great but they were set up where they almost blocked the entrance. You literally had to walk right in front of them to get in the door.4 people, 2 beers, 3 glasses of wine. $126 dollars and one of our party had a salad and iced tea....
Seated and greeted quickly, even got our pitiful deviled eggs timely. Unfortunately we were not able to sample anything else as we never received our food order after waiting 40 minutes. Having been in the business we can be patient and understand when things go wrong but we ended up leaving without eating. No manager came to apologize and offer options...just a rather subdued server said sorry as we walked out. Terrible way to run a business. We will not be back.
Awesome food with live music! Every time I go to Dripping Springs I have to eat there! The Mac and cheese, chicken fried chicken platter is huge and yummy! A special watermelon pizza tower was served and it was great! This is definitely fresh farm to table food. The team of servers make you feel like you are royalty! The owners of Homespun have done a great job and I am counting down the days to enjoy the Homespun experience again!!!
I had the lettuce wedge salad and took the chicken off my vegetarian daughters arugula chicken salad. The chicken was SO tender and nicely seasoned with pecans. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly, with Himalayan salt candles at every table. Really chill music too. I will definitely come back!
Will not return. Service was slow, we waited almost an hour for food while others came and went, and then it was cold. Other than being cold the food also tasted poorly. The wrap wasnt a wrap it was a bowl of asian food that youre supposed to wrap yourself and it was exceptionally salty. We didnt even finish it. The burger tasted like the meat was sour, and the chicken fried steak was cold. Bill also came out over charged and had to confront the waitress. Overall the food was poor and the slow service was disappointing. Our waitress was kind but she didnt seem to have the drive needed.

2022-03-09Excellent southern food. I had the chicken fried steak and really enjoyed it. Could have been cooked a minute less honestly, but the taste was perfect.Amazing fried pickles and jalapeños.My girlfriend had the grilled chicken burger and really enjoyed it.Cocktails were great too!We walked in, though reservations are recommended. All of the servers seemed great except one guy who took a long time to check up on us. Our only complaint. But it doesnt take away from the place!I hope to go back next time Im in town.

2022-05-28Really nice casual lunch, loved sitting out back with the fans. Service was prompt and on point, the food was great. I got the chicken salad sandwich which I had no expectations of but was surprised how good it was! The fruit with it was fresh, I love when the simple details are considered. My husband enjoyed the steak burger and fries. Oh, and the strawberry lemonade was lovely!

2022-05-10Seemed small and rustic, and the AC was hardly working. Sitting indoors was probably worse than the outdoor heat.BUT the food was excellent! The deviled eggs, lettuce wraps, chicken fried chicken were perfectly prepared and so delicious. Nice portions (although eggs could have been large or extra large, not medium eggs, for the price). The cocktails were lovely, but the desserts?! OMG, the key lime pie and the chocolate cake were exceptional! I would order both for pick up for special occasions! The wait staff were very busy, but as efficient as they could be and friendly. (Had THREE young hostesses doing very little and seemed to be crowding the entryway.)All in all a great restaurant and a nice surprise. Just please invest in a good AC system.

2021-07-23So after reading a lot of the reviews on this place my wife and I were hesitant to try it. We decided to give it a go anyway and can confirm most of the complaints in the reviews are very true.#1 Make sure you make a reservation.#2 Prepare for a wait of 10 minutes ± after being seated to get your drink order taken.#3 Seating inside is very cramped and slightly claustrophobic. Our server was nice as was the hostess, so +1 for that.My wife had the Grilled Shrimp Tostadas appetizer pictured above. This was a $15 dollar appetizer, that in her words was Fantastic, it was the perfect bite size with a great melding of flavors. The chipotle mayo set it off perfectly and it was absolutely worth the $15.For our meal we both had the Chicken Fried Steak. This rings in at around $19 each. The sides served with it were the Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Squash, Zucchini & Onion. Adding a little salt and pepper to the plate made the sides delicious. The Chicken Fry itself, unfortunately, was overdone for both of us. Not only was the breading overly crunchy instead of crispy and flakey but there were literal black areas that were too hard to bite into. The Gravy had a homemade flavor and needed a bit of salt as well. I get that the ingredients are sourcef locally and they are trying to deliver high quality dishes here and the price tag reflects that, but part of the understanding there is that you know how to prepare those ingredients appropriately and bring out the flavors. This is where Homespun failed on the Chicken Fry.We will likely try it again sometime down the road but it will be a while and hopefully there will be some changes.

2022-05-24A nice local restaraunt with a 4 stool bar, lots of vib and great food. Sat inside to enjoy the ambience. I tried the shrimpn grits dish and was quite empressed with the presentation and taste. Super flavorful. I also sampled the fried steak. Very satisfying and the thing was larger than a bull riders belt buckle! A great choice when visiting this locale.

2022-02-07Going to start off with I didnt try the food just had an appetizer, thats why I am only giving three stars. However my buddy ate a meal and said it was really good. Drinks were okay and it is a full bar service. Seem like a nice cozy place to have lunch or dinner. The service was good. If Im ever in the area again, I will try it again.

2022-04-26Just discovered this place. Really like what they do. Options for inside or outside seating. Inside has an old feel - in a nice way. Two visits and food has been great so far.

2022-03-08The pulled pork sandwich with meat smoked in-house was a treat. I also always appreciate when the wait staff is just as good as the food, and this was the case.

2022-02-23The food here was AMAZING. I had the blackened catfish tacos and they were cooked perfectly. The service was really good, as well. They were very busy, but we never felt neglected. What the other reviews say about the place feeling cramped is true. They only have 10-15 tables, but because the dining room is so small, everyone is very close together. It was a bit loud because of this as well, but none of that would keep me from coming back if I didnt live two states away. If youre in the area, give the place a shot. You wont regret it.
