I had read about this site opening up to the public and was curious to see this place. Its very peaceful to walk around the bathhouse and read about the history. The signs shares historical details that take you back in time. It had been a luxurious place back in the day and visited by famous people including Theodore Roosevelt. The parking is conveniently close and there appears to be restrooms also.Wish I had more time since there are trails to discover at the back.
This is a very interesting place with a pretty cool history. The hotel grounds are very cool to see. I wish you were allowed to enter the bathhouse to take better pictures but thats okay. There is also access to a trail that runs along the river. All in all its a pretty cool place to visit.
New county park! Hot Wells was a hot bed of activity as a luxury resort and houses film stars! Recently, the sulphuric hot springs have been discovered and plans are in the works to have Hot Wells revamped into a modern resort! Go visit! It’s free and you have access to the river!
Nicely landscaped, not crowded. Right now just the bathhouse had been opened to the public. You can still read the stenciling one the pools area. It connects directly to the river trails with wide concrete paths close to a pretty dam. As the park expands it will be even better.
Very interesting didnt kno bout this place u learn sumthing every day my grandkids were so impressed were excited n said were going 2 go n tell at skool their experience took pics 2 show n tell glad my husband took us he walks around there on wkends enjoys his walks very very nice 👍🏻👍🏻
This is extremely well done for an historical park. The walkways are wide and easy, the signage is clear and the informational panels are interesting and full of historical photos. Theres a lot of parking and a big new toilet block. I learned a lot about the hot wells and the history of the area that I had never known before, including the stars who came to stay when it was in its heyday. Plan to stay 15 - 30 min; theres not a TON to see here but its well worth a diversion from your trip to the missions or some other day of fun.
I had heard about the restoration at Hot Wells, so I was kind of surprised... the old hotel and resort are not really restored so much as their ruins are cleaned up. The site is interesting and there are paved walks around the ruins with informational signs that describe spa and its history. It is worth a look.
This is a nice piece of San Antonio history but since its new, its a little underwhelming. There are only about a dozen parking spaces and 2 single restrooms which get lines. I would recommend seeing the ruins but you dont need much time as its just a walk around a single building and youre done. You cant go into the ruins so youre left with admiring them from afar.
One of San Antonios little gems. Its located on the south side right off the Mission trails. Its free and the bathrooms are clean. Visitors are only allowed to walk around the old ruins and not through it. But the walkways are wide and clear. The information panels all around the building are full of photos and gives a lot of information about the history of the building.
In the 1960ish, my family lived in one of the small cabins that were to the left of the main building. The pools were still full of the hot sulfur water. The main building had a club and restaurant in it.There is a white fountain as you drive in ,that is original .My short time there is one of my favorite times.Love to see history is still something our city and state is willing to save.
What an absolutely wonderful setting to enjoy a beautiful day outside. Well groomed trails around the former Hot Wells Bath House meander down to a peaceful flowing riverbank. Comfortable benches strategically situated throughout the exhibit and informative signage along the paths made the visit especially memorable. Congrats to Bexar County for bringing this diamond in the rough back to life for generations to enjoy! 👍
The old Hot Wells ruins is fantastic for years it just remained ruins along the Riverwalk path now they have made it into a park they put sign boards up and they have renovated as much as they can of the old bathhouses and such it is a beautiful example of what was in the 19 hundreds or early 1900s even 1890s 1880s into the 1920s and a little Beyond of what was the culture in San Antonio at that time. 😀

2021-11-11A hidden treasure. I love walking these grounds, particularly the native plant landscaped path on the far side of the ruins. A stop here should be included on any mission trail tour. Parking lot is safe and provides a nice access point to the river hiking and biking trails. I recommend going left to the bridge and dam.

2021-08-17The ruins are lit up at night. Here are some drone photos taken on August 14, 2021, from this location. Daytime photos were taken about 2 weeks earlier. Photos courtesy of Yellow Rose Drones. Videos are on YouTube from this location for daytime and nighttime.

2021-06-06The Hot Wells Hotel ruins are gorgeously maintained and set in a stunning field of wildflowers. The park is the perfect place to stretch your legs or take some pictures, and the flowers offer a perfect spring/summer splash of color.

2021-03-06I think youd spend about 10-30 min here. The placards detailing the history here are great, the grounds are well-landscaped I enjoyed visualizing and contemplating high-society at the turn of the century in that very spot and contrasting it with here today. Rich, famous, powerful, all congregated here. Teddy Roosevelt stayed there, silent movie industry was filming there. Who knew, in San Antonio? How does something that opulent get reduced to ruins in much less then a century? The answer is on the placards there, but youll have to go there and read it for yourself. Also a great pit stop if you are riding a bike on the Mission trail.

2021-01-04Was very interesting, but wish we could have explored the ruins more. There is no going inside ruins just walking around them. But we explored the woods surrounding it and found some abandoned houses which were interesting. A quick stop for shore or you could get on the river path and walk for hours.

2020-06-24Peaceful, relaxing , birds singing and letting your imagination dream. This is what I did when I visited this location. Its really peaceful l was able to just relax and take it in. I imagine all the different type of individuals that visited Hot Wells Springs and how it must have been way back in the day. A place thats just amazing I love the fact that my imagination was able to recreate what I believe took place there. This is such a great place for a picnic. Super clean location relaxing in the sun and just having a picnic would be a great opportunity to visit this place. After visiting this location just a few miles down the road are plenty of restaurants and shopping to do.Handicap parking and easy accessibility

2020-03-14Nice circular path around the ruins of what use to be a resort and place to enjoy hot springs. As you walk around several signage posts are to educate and tell the history of the hotel back in the days past. A fence has been placed so no access to the inside of the hotel but most is visible by walking the path.
