Jims Restaurants in other cities:
Generally the food is okay just dont order the eggs benedict. My experience with it had to be the worst eggs Benedict in my entire life. The English muffin was soggy the eggs were way over poached the hollandaise was subpar and the ham was just slopped on there like it was a piece of trash. The menu description and the actual product were not even close. The waitress was too occupied with trying to turn tables that she didnt even bother to ask how our food was.
So lets start with Jims is completely solid. The food is good and the price point matches it. You can get a reasonably good meal for a reasonably good price. It could use a little updating to make it a bit brighter but its comfortable and tasty. My only complaint is that It tastes like they may use margarine to cook the eggs and I much prefer butter. The big kicker for the 5th star is the mozzarella sticks. I would come here only for the mozzarella sticks. They are spectacular. Im not saying they are some cheese hand made nonsense. They are just perfectly fried deliciousness that got to our table hot!
After my grandson and I were finished flying our dji Mavic Mini drone, we wanted to grab an early diner. Jims diner was the perfect spot for us. Jims has real diner feel with lots of booths for privacy. And like a real diner, they serve breakfast all day. I had the senior omelette, which was plenty for me. My grandson had the breakfast sandwich, which he raved about. The bread was grilled like a grilled cheese sandwich. Ill try that next time. Jims is our new go-to restaurant.
The service was great, the food was better than Dennys and close to IHOP quality. The coffee was lukewarm and tea like.Im sorry but this is a diner, coffee quality is paramount. Maybe it was a fluke but Ill be back to try again. If you eat here I hope your coffee is better than mine.
Walked in and thought there would be a wait due to how busy the place was and only a few tables open. Nope. Silvia guided us quickly to a table even rerouting us saying Im going to sit you over here, I dont want you to wait. No sooner than were we sat and Faye was introducing herself politely and taking our drink orders. It almost seemed like she pulled our drinks out of her pocket they were there so quick and she was taking our food order. It seemed like no more than 5 minutes later and our plates were in front of us. I had the club with fries and the misses had the chicken and Swiss seasoned to perfection and proportioned just right. While eating not only did we notice the light color of the fries and okra, which told us they keep a clean fryer, we noticed a party of about 10 walk in and immediately get sat. This was a group effort, the bus staff didnt let a table sit dirty, the host was attentive to how to distribute patrons to even the workload and the wait staff were so quick to do their part they had a minute or two here and there to chat it up as well... our compliments to the chefs as well... this place ran like a well oiled machine... got back into the car with my full belly and noticed the time... from parking the car to pulling out very satisfied was right at an hour... this is unheard of in this day and age... other restraunt owners should send their staff here equipped with notepads...
Nice family please, I ordered the mashooms burger, even though it tasted good it was missing the mashooms, waiter forgot about us, but then made it up by working out a discount. The 4 stars is because of the burger. All other workers had a smille and made the ambient much warmer.
As we were waiting in the waiting seats with my family, we saw out the window elderly people with a flat as we saw them struggle out the window . As we helped , my wife and family stayed waiting for our table and they did not want to seat us because we weren’t in the waiting area. So they gave our table away. Poor customer service. Definitely put a bow on a bad experience in Austin.
What is the best breakfast in the state is right here at Jims coffee shop! Chopped steak breakfast and pork chop breakfast are excellent I would ask without meat seasoning. Ask for your hash browns extra crispy and you will love it. Frontier Burger is unbelievably Juicy and Delicious along with their super skinny onion rings.
I have always liked Jims because it has been around a long time and still has that basic diner feel. The food is always good, service the same and they have plenty on the menu to choose from. They have one of the best breakfast menus in town, which is available all day.
I was feeling fairly rough due to overindulgence the day before so I needed a stout breakfast in order to start all over again and Jims was the perfect remedy.I ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns and scramble eggs. It also came with two homemade biscuits. It was one of the best chicken fried breakfast steaks that Ive had in a long time.
Server Faye was awesome. Very attentive. A very nice and a hard worker. The food was very tasty. But unfortunately there was a computer glitch? Or the computer went down? We did not receive two of our items. My husband ordered blueberry pancakes and got regular. And I ordered a small ham steak on the side. Faye was able to bring us the items, after we told her what we were missing ...., but we were both almost done with our breakfast by then.Still we did enjoy our meal, as always. Other than those hiccups, we love our Jims. Weve been coming here for over 30 years. Everyone weve ever dealt with is wonderful and likes to chit chat and have great personalities. You really feel welcome when you come to Jims. The restrooms are always nice and clean. Well stocked. And the food is awesome. So much to choose from, always fresh and good: Well be back soon again.
Breakfast here on 11/19/21. We ordered burgers with onion rings. Wife had cheeseburger and I had the chili burger. AWESOME! Charbroiled patties with gooey cheddar cheese. Onion rings were cut thin and fried nice and crisp. Waitress, Faye, kept us well supplied with tea and coffee. Ready to go back.
I arrived slightly before the lunch rush around 1030am. My wait time for a booth, I was dining alone, was approximately 10-15 min.. I would have been seated for immediately if I had chosen to dine at the counter.Once seated the server was prompt in taking my beverage order and delivered it quickly. I was not rushed to give my food order but once I did give my order the food was delivered quickly and all at proper temperature. The food was well cooked and excellent. My overall experience was excellent and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food. Wait wasn’t too long and we were a party of 10. Everyone had a great meal, the only mishap was outside. After we got back to our car we found a half brick that was laying on our roof that had been thrown at the windshield and landed on the roof. Front passenger window all cracked but in tact.Still Jim’s was a great time.
Trashy trashy language used by hostess! Couldn’t believe it. Left before placing a to go order. Second time that has happened. It ‘s a powerful indication of the lack of management and probably equally trashy stuff going on in the kitchen. I have gone there for 30 years but no more!
Ive been coming to gyms for over 20 years for a reason. It has that down Home Country Diner feel that you cant get anywhere else. Theres always hot fresh coffee and the staff is always rushing to meet your needs. The food is always excellent and I highly recommend any breakfast items and especially the liver and onions.
Papa jim has blessed me for years. this is surely the best food in the entire area. do not sleep on papa jim for real. everything is good and you can show up seriously inebriated and the staff will be just as courteous and kind to you as anyone else. I will forever reside behind this establishment. great piss trees right out back too! bring back 24 hour service papa jim!! covid is over! much love!
We stopped in here on our way back home cause the roads were icy and cars going everywhere. So my husband said for us to take a break and eat. I’m glad we did. I usually do not like Jim’s at all. But the food was good this time and our waitress Babs was so friendly and kept checking on us. She made us feel welcomed and was just so sweet. I got the potato and egg tacos and it was good. My husband got eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits. The biscuits were homemade and tasted really good.
Today was some of the best eggs benny action ever eggs perfectly poach the lemon notes from the haulindase wer perfect and not overpowering like when I try to make it at home. Everyone here was an absolute Gem even when other customers were being extremely rude because of the wait (its a holiday of course you will wait) the cooks were putting plates out almost faster than the servers could take them out. This is what every restaurant should try to be
Still the place for classic meals at a good price. Seniors can eat there for very little $. Breakfast is still solid! The pancakes are the fluffiest and can be eaten without getting too stuffed as long as you stop at 3 pancakes. Going to have to try and remember to try the biscuits. I remember them being delicious! The Jims on my side of town disappeared long ago but the drive is worth it.
Came to visit family and decided to stop on the way to through town. Great portions and good pricing. Must ask to sit in Fayes section! Best waitress weve had in years! She made the stop extra special! She is attentive and made sure everything was perfect. Get that diner experience with Faye as the cherry on top. Cant wait to come back!
It is a chain. But this location is reliable and trustworthy. Good for coffee and quick bite or breakfast, lunch and dinner. Booths, tables or sit at the counter. The staff is friendly and attentive. Breakfast is my favorite here. The breakfast was really good, reasonably priced with great service. Lauren was our server. We had the typical eggs, hashbrown breakfast. A very comfortable diner with a little bit of everything to choose from on the menu. I will definitely visit again.
Why can zero or negative stars be an option it would align with common sense displayed at Jim’s!! Went for breakfast with my wife and the incompetence was unbelievable. I could not sit at the bar next to my spouse! Really? Well sir covid means you need to be separated by two chairs!! Now bear in mind I was just holding hands and kissing my wife 2 minutes before but Jim’s would not permit us to sit next to each other. Complete insanity and idiocy
Do you love delicious, soul-satisfying country dishes served by the sweetest gals this side of the Rio Grande? Does the subtle clatter of dishes and muted tones of the local news make you feel at home? Does it bring a smile to your face when someone calls you sweetheart? If so, Jim’s is the place for you! I have been coming to Jim’s since high school and now that the Pandemic has restricted me to staying at home and depriving me of my weekly Jim’s, there is a big sad hole in my heart. I love you, Jim’s!!! P.S. try the chicken fried steak breakfast! You won’t regret it!
BEST FOOD EVER!! It dosent matter what you order or what time of the day or night you get there, the food is always great. The staff is super friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Want some pie after your meal? They have an awesome selection and its all good. Give Jims a try, you wont be disappointed.
I love their breakfast. I dont think Ive ever had something I didnt like here. Its a old diner so its got an old feel to it but I love it. The waiters are all so sweet and friendly and that makes it even better. Wait time isnt very long usually. Plus kids eat free on Sunday and Monday nights after 5 I believe. Bonus!
The service tends to be great, there is rarely a time when youre hoping your waiting staff returns to your table. Everyone is smiling and asking how everything is. Food seems to be hit or miss; in my experience the breakfast has always been delicious and well made how it was ordered, getting to the table at a perfect temperature. The one time I ordered a dinner plate I was not impressed; grease was trickling from my food and it tasted as though it was thrown together in less than a minute. However, its a fantastic little family diner, perfect for a brunch or late afternoon meal.
Great to place to stop by for lunch. Everyone is always friendly and service is quick. Ive been here already a handful of times and the food is good. I compare this place to something like a Dennys or IHOP but I definitely like this better from the atmosphere (feels more homey) and the way the food tastes. You can also see the cooks working away behind the counter so you know you are getting a hot fresh meal. Overall, good place all around.
Food is basic diner food, with central Texas taste. Was able to have breakfast for lunch (Spanish omelet) and peach cobbler with cinnamon ice cream for dessert. Service was excellent. Reminds me of the way Dennys used to be. You can get table, booth, or counter service. Will definitely be going back.
This is one of mine and my husbands favorite spots. They are always very quick regardless of how busy they are and the food is fantastic; spot on every time no matter what type of food you order. I recommend Jims any time, day or night, breakfast, lunch or dinner.... And the best.... desserts. Enjoy!!!
The waitress working the midnight shift was awesome and accommodating. We were working an overnight shift and had to order it to go, she called us when it was ready for pickup. The burger i had was good, fresh, and large. The other 2 plates my co-workers ordered were just as good.
We love this iconic restaurant/cafe/old school place. Very few places are open 24 hours a day that serve ALL TYPES of food. Jims has been around for decades and it hits the spot after late night concerts and dates. The prices are reasonable and the food is old style, family friendly. Their desserts are also great with a cup of coffee. You can even purchase a whole pie or cake to take with you. Almost everyone that works for them, go out of their way to make for an enjoyable meal and experience. Please let me know if this review is helpful. Sometimes I question why I take the time to post, if my reviews dont make a difference. Thanks so much!
Jims is perfect comfort foods & desert. You have to order food when the right people are working or you will not be the same as last time. They do make a lot of mistakes with our orders, we got tired of waiting for them to fix orders, and never returned. Its a shame, food is great when the right cooks are cooking BUT consistently forgetting to put in orders, consistently forgetting to give us the right food, consistently making food inconsistently... 4 stars is being very nice.
I work over nights and on my night off, I still wake up around 2AM.I was hungry, so I was thinking about breakfast. When I got to Jims and looked at the menu, I changed my mind, I ordered the Club with Onion Rings.Good decision! It was great! My server was attentive and asked if I wanted some pie?I did, Apple ala Mode....dont remember her name, but her number is 29!Loved the meal! And service!
My fiance are I decided to try this place out on a Monday night around 9pm. The waitress motioned to take any seat we want, we chose a table, sat down and browsed the menu for 10 minutes looking over the very appealing menu item. No service was present but when we looked at the counter, all the wait staff was congregated at the register having a seemingly good time. We decided to leave and then It occurred to us, This is probably why these places are closing down left and right. We will try someday to visit one of the San Antonio stores and hope those restaurant are much better managed.
I am a regular and this Jims the restaurant is amazing but, This has been my second expirance with the Manager Esme it seems to me that she takes advantage of her position and clearly does not provide good costumer service.. I know this are hard times but dont make it harder for people like me that just want to come in and enjoy there meal..
They have an expansive menu, their breakfast is outstanding and is always available. They have senior specials, and childrens plates. And extensive, if unimaginative, dessert menu. And, they are open 24 hours a day, and thats a perk. However, the vegetables are not fresh and sometimes the meat dishes, like steak, chicken or liver are overcooked and dry. The wait staff are always prompt and courteous
Usually a straight up traditional diner. But for some reason the food was not cooked well? The hash browns were not cooked at all, just brown on the outside. The chili portion was small and my guest ordered sweet tea but was brought unsweetened tea and the server said the sweet tea machine was off. I was brought orange juice but ordered water. Anyway 2 breakfast meals - $20 with tip.
Always a great place to eat, 24/7. I grew up with Jims in San Antonio. Cant remember off the top of my head when Jims opened, at 67 I cant remember them not being around? Classic Coffee Shop that serves up some of the best food around, virtually everything is just mighty tasty, from Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, prime aged steaks, some of the best Chili ever, to those signature pies, Malts and Shakes. Keep up the good work all you awesome employees at Jims, we love you.
Just really good hometown American diner food. If youre looking for a hearty, well-prepared, darn good breakfast, you cant beat it. I do enjoy my fancy brunches from time to time, but Im a Wisconsin girl at heart, and nothing beats a big eggs, bacon, and pancake breakfast in my book. Service is always fast and friendly, and they get it right the first time. If youre lucky and Lauren is your server, youll leave feeling like family.
The busiest spot in Oak Hill for breakfast is Jims, and with good reason. This location has been going strong for over 30 years with no signs of quit.Pancakes are absolutely phenomenal and put the lical IHOP to shame. Hash browns are crispy and delicious. Biscuits and gravy ate also another favorite (get the sausage gravy with these and you wont be disappointed). And for bigger appetites they even have a chicken fried steak breakfast that is awesome. Breakfast tacos are also big and tasty.I have been hesitating to write this review because they are always so busy already on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Expect a long wait but the food is well worth it!
Food is delicious. First time Ive been to this Jims. 2 am and they were busy and short staffed. The lady serving every person was starting to show signs of frustration but she never once made anyone feel unwanted or uncomfortable. They cook did a fantastic job. They did forget the sausage that comes with the ranchero meal but we understood, mistakes happen. The shake I had was perfect also!
Ive been here 4 times. The first time was good. I went on my birthday for breakfast with my grandpa and the food was good, the service was also good, that was that 2 years ago. I recently moved back into the area so I went a few more times, I worked as a waitress downtown for 3 years so I understand that mistakes happen. But my last 3 visits have been awful. The 2nd time I went late at 10pm and ordered a steak but they had no potatoes so instead I ordered a salad and was charged extra, my boyfriend ordered a breakfast which came out good, so whatever, no big deal. The second time I went I ordered a cesar salad, they were out of cesar and instead gave me a side salad with ranch, again no big deal I was hungry so I ate it despite ordering a regular size and being given a much smaller portion. Today I was really sick and ordered a side salad and tortilla soup. The soup okay and had lot of chicken, but my side salad came with no dressing so I ended up paying for a salad I didnt eat because I had no dressing. When I feel better Ill go get some dressing because I probably should already have some at home but I didnt which is why I ordered this instead of going to HEB. When I called they said they would talk to the hostess and that was the end of the conversation. I dont know if Im just unlucky or what however Im extremely disappointed with the lack of product/ the consistent incorrect orders and the way that management handled the situation. Im more upset that I tipped (because I know what severs make) even on a to go order and this is the 3rd time in a row that Ive not received what I ordered. And for those reasons I will not return but I do hope others have not/ will not have the same experience I have had multiple times.
Even though this virus has us in fear of living my friends and family ventured out to dinning at Jims restraint we started with a plate of appetizers succulent mushrooms and cheesy mozzarella chicken tenders and though were blessed with many mushrooms we enjoyed the begining of the journey we then ordered our desired dish ranging from the unique personality of he company herewith eggs Benedict maple portion of Canadian ham which joel seemed to devour soup and salad for the queen dee and eggs and potatoes for kid brother and last but the main pattymelt man big d lol needless to say we had great service and a enjoyable hour of dining thanking our waitress dave and hostess unnamed lol
Food was okay after they cooked my eggs properly. Asked for over easy eggs, came out over hard, crispy edges, and even one of the yolks had busted on the grill and was completely cooked. I couldnt believe the head chef for the day even allowed that to be plated and served. Maybe they will do better next time we go, if we go again.
Great service and delicious food! Breakfast or dinner served anytime. Meals like Mom used to make - pot roast, meatloaf and chicken fried steak. All the comfort foods of home and then some. Excellent variety on their menu, something for everyone. I love their chicken tortilla soup as a start to almost any meal. Dont forget to grab a slice of pie for dessert. You wont be disappointed!
Typical Jims restaurant. Americana diner food. I like the boneless pork chops when they have them. And, I like the chopped steak (with gravy) breakfast. And, the breakfast tacos. This location is typically clean with polite staff. Never had a complaint regarding the service.
Id been here a few times, just dont understand why the food the majority of the time its cooled or warm. I like my food HOT. Otherwise I feel like Im eating at home. The coffee is never hot, its more like warm..Ive been hitting Dans Hamburgers lately. The food today 12/6/2017 as you see in pics was actually worth it than any other past visits. For some reason the same plate before was eggs and beans, guess I was being ripped off! Coffee is still warm or cold, my tortillas were cold. Some of these waiters need severe people skills if they want to make money!
They always have great service with the friendliest staff Ive ever encountered. Theres a waitress in particular whos made my experiences there memorable. You can tell shes exhausted after a long and busy day of work, but she still has a genuine smile on her face. The food is also delicious. I always get the Frontier burger and my mom the Tilapia, with the taco soup. Words cannot express how utterly delicious these two are. And if we have enough room, we also buy desert. I always get the vanilla milkshake while my mom orders the banana split. All in all, I definitely recommend this location.Kudos to yall.
Everything we want in a family dinar. Super friendly staff, fast service, something for everybody, well prepared, and desserts! As we were leaving with extra food in boxes, they stopped us to put the boxes in a bag and add utensils and napkins! All around nice place.
Yum! A diner with everything! Probably 40% less expensive than Kerbey. And they hustle during weekend brunch time so wait times arent usually crazy and prohibitive time wise like most places. Their chicken fried steak might be my favorite anywhere. I love the breakfast version with a couple sunny side eggs and hash browns which are always cooked perfectly. Tacos are great, sandwiches are great, fried mushrooms and pickles too. Omelets and dinner options as well. Havent had anything I didnt like. All that said if youre from California you might not like it.
Okay. Im biased toward Jims. It was one the 1st places I went to in Austin back in the mid 1970s. It was great to meet friends then and for many years after, and still is. The waiter we had tonight, a tall, slim young with tattoos on his arms was most accommodating in making sure my vegetarian lady friends sensibilities were respected. All said, another good experience at one of my favorite places in visit in Austin.
Used to eat here a lot when I was younger and it was good food, but this time was terrible for me and good for my wife. My wife enjoyed her breakfast, pretty standard faire. I however, got a hamburger and onion rings. The onion rings were the greasiest shoe string onion rings Ive ever had, all I could taste was grease. I asked for the hamburger medium rare, expecting it to be more done than that, and got a burger all the way done. It was nothing special, just a basic bacon cheeseburger. At least the bacon was crispy.
Complete disaster. Went in for the first time on a Tuesday morning looking for breakfast. No one noticed me for 5 minutes. I finally went to the cashier and asked if I could get a table. She seemed confused. Once seated I sat alone for another 5 minutes. Never saw a waitress. Even went to the waitress stand looking. Left and went to another place. Do not recommend.
I was stranded this morning and Jim’s staff took me in, let me use the facilities and their wiFi to get myself home. I had a very sweet & efficient server, a great burger but i ran into a problem paying with a debit card but the manager was very understanding & helpful. i recommend this Jim’s location to everybody!
Large portions at great low prices. Catfish plate special for friday comes with sweet tea, two sides of choice and two big sized catfish fillets 8.99 wow. The chicken tortilla soup was great too the wait staff are friendly and attentive, sure makes you feel right at home. I wish there was one in south austin. But the drive is worth the drive. Im hooked.
I’ll go in after long days of work due to the 24/7 service. Sure, it smells like old people but that’s ok because the soup is really REALLY good. Get the bowl of tortilla soup if you’re looking for something at a good price that will fill you quiet well ~Their breakfast has never failed me (aside from their eggs, I really don’t like how their eggs are overly greased and SOMETIMES rubbery). But if you stick Hash Browns into an omelette, it makes up for that ! Would I suggest coming here? If you don’t want to empty your wallet at the nearby places, grab a seat and dine in at this old spirited diner :)
Jims is an old family tradition that goes way back for me.. As far as I can remember. Ive tried everything on the menu from the cowboy breakfast to the the tbone dinner plate. You just absolutely can not go wrong at Jims. Its even more than just a restaurant to me, its my connection to my granny and sisters. Its so many memories catching up with just the girls. Great food, great memories, great service, great prices! So many reasons why Jims is one of my favorite places on the planet!
Slow service. 40 minute wait with a half-full restaurant. My order arrived cold. I dont mean not hot but it was as if the food was resting under an AC vent cold. The manager was not interested in even coming to the table to discuss the matter. Very disappointing after all the good things Ive heard about Jims
Jims is a small local chain which has all the well-prepared comfort food you could imagine, burgers and sandwiches, and breakfast served all day. Bottomless coffee and soft drinks are offered as well. But the thing that sticks with me most is how very CLEAN it is - exceptionally so. The waitstaff is polite, friendly, and efficient, too. Jims reminds me of the diners I used to frequent years ago, with counter service if you prefer that. There are lots of clean windows which allow lots of natural light, and the place has become of new favorite of mine.

2022-01-03I just love going to Jims Restaurant. Food is so good ; prices are so down to earth. I love seeing their primary customers, who generally are seniors . They have an extended menu for everybody and a senior menu but are not limited to great prices. My favorite dish from Jims is Liver and Onions. For those who like weird stuff, I absolutely recommend this dish. Liver and onions it are not weird at all, but for some people, it is even disgusting . I just love it, and I will go back every time I can to get the same from the menu.

2022-02-16I always enjoy a meal at Jims, whether its breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their food is hit and fresh and brought to your table in a timely manner. The wait staff are wonderful and friendly, and the meals are very reasonably priced. I would also suggested ordering a slice of pie after your meal because you wont be disappointed.

2022-05-24Jims restaurants are consistent. The serve traditional American dishes that are both satisfying and reasonably priced. The wait service is usually fast, attentive and friendly. Ive been coming to this one for 30+ years and have never had a bad experience.

2022-04-26What a great classic American Diner. The coffee is always hot and the service is always amazing. Jims definitely goes above and beyond your expectations because it is always clean and the folks working there are always pleasant and easy going.Shrimp and catfish are my favorite and its only $10. I make sure to give a big tip of course. The coffee is excellent and they are quick to refill it.Breakfast is served all day and anything on the menu is delicious. They run a tight ship and I have never been disappointed.Thank you Jims!

2022-04-25Ive been coming here since I was a little girl its been around for a long time. Classy old style diner. The staff is always cheerful with great service. My favorite part is that it gives that small town homey feeling when you enter. Even though the area is undergoing an expansive makeover its a great place. The roads are a little difficult to monuver through but the food is worth it. The hot cocoa is amazing. Steak and fried shrimp! Yummers! Five stars.

2022-04-25Theres a new trend these days called brunch. Ive been trying all of them lately trying to find the GOAT. I came to the conclusion that the absolute best breakfast is actual breakfast. No shrimp, grits or waffle can come close to a steak and eggs breakfast with biscuits and gravy. You can stand in line for an hour for your eggs benedict. Ill head over to Jims and experience heaven.

2022-04-24Jim’s is our favorite breakfast spot; their pancakes are fluffy and delicious. Customer service is top notch! The servers are always friendly and I love that their main customers are senior citizens.
