Im a top Dasher, the majority of restaurants in the Valley dont take extra time when we arrive. The point of placing orders is to have them ready by the time we pick up, otherwise we would place an order when we get here. Its time consuming and this is money we loose as we wait, organizing would help everyone, dashers and customers.
Disappointed with the service...waited almost 35 minutes for my rolls which I called in 25 minutes earlier. Had to get my order to go... the place was not packed with people...started to get busy... Sorry, I like going there... now I am thinking of other sushi places near by.
Waiting for an order takes 2 hours then after 2 hours I come back to pick up my food and i find a bug inside my soup right on top of the soup floating like if someone placed it there, kitchen must be filled with insects and rats, gave me credit but not coming back what should have been done is refund the whole order for f$$cking upTotal order was $29 soup costs $10
It makes absolutely no sense how long they take to make orders Im sitting inside and theres maybe 2 tables that are dining in. Everytime I come to pick up an order it always takes 15-20 mins extra. They try and look busy but I personally dont know if they are because its never a full house and their work ethic acts like it is.
Sushi is good, but wait time is crazy. I ordered a sushi by phone at 3:00 and they said it’s be ready by 3:35 arrived at the restaurant at 3:50 to give them a little extra time and when I called to let them know I was outside they say “we’ll check right now” and hanged up. The ordered wasn’t taken out until 4:27
My husband and I love the sushi from this place. We have never had any sushi so delicious; however, the service is questionable. I called to place an order of 2 rolls and the lady who answered the called said that it would take 1 hour but the lady who took my order said 20 minutes. It did take 20 minutes and they even called me to let me know. I do not want to think negative of the lady to told me 1 hour but it has not been the first time that it happens to us. Taste 5 starts service 0 stars...
Food quality is excellent, its delicious and a great bang for your buck. Now if only the wait times werent so insane. Whatever time they tell you, add an hour to it. I dont think my food has ever been ready even close to the time I was quoted. Maybe they start working on it when you get there?
Christopher was the rudest person I’ve ever dealt with there, there was an issue wish a take out order. And when I called to try and resolve the issue he continued to tell me he never had my order placed, and who was in the party how many people there what were they wearing. 😒 did it matter the reason I was calling was to resolve the issue on the food not what they were wearing. Along side that he had the audacity to tell me. “Look woman…” how u professional. Standard here dropped to zero because of this unprofessional gentleman
I placed an order over the phone, and they said my order would be ready at 1:15pm I got here, empty lot, no customers inside .. and it’s 2:18 and my order is still not ready. They’ve done this before where I wait over 2 hours for ONE roll. They charge themselves all these types of fees and you end up paying an extra $8 for fees that don’t even make sense and they still ask for tip.
Sushi isnt sushi unless its from Maki sushi bar. The special they have during the week is amazing. Any roll. Any way. All at a price thats affordable. The Maki rice makes it even better. My wife and I try to go as often as possible. I eat sushi at other locations but Maki sushi bar is always top notch. Its my first choice for sushi. Staff is always friendly and prompt.
I enjoy the food here very much! The service is much better than it was a few years ago. If you work nearby, then this place can definitely be squeezed into an hour lunch. I love how the new remodeling is coming along. Overall, this place offers great food at a great price in a relaxed environment.
Sushi is good, but service is Horrible!!!!Takes 30-40 min for food to be ready, then takes 15-20 minutes to get through to someone by phone once your there to pick up, and theyll put you on hold if your unlucky.. Basically if you got an hour or so to spare go for it. ☹️☹️☹️
My daughter and I enjoy eating here for their affordable sushi. Any roll for $5.99 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Their service is not always the best and music is always too loud though. If it wasnt for their specials we wouldnt go because the service and ambiance is not the best. But the food is really good though.
The only reason Im giving this place 2 stars is because of their sushi. When done right, their food taste so good. What I dont understand is the slow service. Even when it is not busy or even if I have been the only party in there, they take such a ridiculous amount of time. Same with their take out orders. Im always told that it will be ready in 20-25 mins but I never get my order until a whole hour after it was supposed to be done. Over the years they just seem to get worse.
We were told the Maki Box would be ready in an hour, they took an hour and a half. Besides that the sushi was not made fresh, their ingredients dont taste fresh. The rice on the rolls is not good and the rolls just dont have any flavor. Their sauces are far from being on point. (Left same review on Facebook page.)
Over 2 HOURS to get our food!!!!! They jept saying 20 more munites 10 more minites. Not offered a discount or apology. Only reason we waited was because we had other people waiting on it. Apparently they have issues with time management and have done nothing to fix this problem. Super disappointing.
Sushi is my favorite meal ever and I’ve tried it all around the globe. Now I came here and what can I say? So far, this is the tastiest sushi place in RGV. They managed to add Mexican flavor into Japanese cuisine and it blended perfectly. I only wish you’d have a little bigger selection with fresh fish:)
We ordered 2 rolls only , we waited outside in our truck for an hour and half . we called them several times and try it kept saying they would come out with food but yet again we had to call . Did not leave since wife wanted to try the food , but never again , when asked what took too long all they said there was a delayed . this place sucks do not recommend , ruined our day .
Great little sushi place with many different choices and types of rolls. We always go on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday because they have a special where all of the sushi rolls on the menu are $5. I love it. That is a great price, and there are so many to try. Very fresh and tasty sushi.
The wait times.Its frustrating, Im sure, to the wait staff who have to wait for the sushi chefs to make the rolls. Its frustrating to the customers as well.When you do get the food is pretty good and I have no complaints there.How Id fix the wait times:Get better sushi chefs or more of them. If you have two that take half an hour to roll four orders, get them out of there. Thats obscene.Stop taking orders over the phone or to go orders in general. That only makes your customers in the restaurant have to wait longer because you pander to people who call in orders instead of actually dining in and tipping your staff.
Even when calling ahead to pickup food youll get your food late. I ordered over the phone and was told itd be 25 minutes. Knowing about the long wait reputation this place has, I decided to head over after 45 minutes. I waited for another 30 minutes once there because my food wasnt ready.
I like the sushi and not to mention the deals they have on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. But server delivered good service but failed to give me my change adequately, he kept the change. And I would understand if he had said something about not having any or whatever, but instead he just deliberately kept it.
My colleagues and I came for lunch this afternoon. The place wasnt very crowded when we got there but it filled up rather quickly. When it did, the service was a lot slower and it took forever to get a refill on my water. The sushi wasnt very good and was rather disappointing. I can say I wont be back.
I walked into the abandoned, dimly lit restaurant. I saw two women chatting with the the two guys behind the bar. There were two children running around inside the establishment, and a partially consumed hot & ready on one of the tables. The mood shifted as I cautiously strolled in. Not knowing if they were in fact open, doing some kind of training, or running a shabby daycare. I hesitantly peered at the hard to find menu, and was about to order, when I thought about how 1-there was no one here 2-how fresh was the raw fish was I was about to consume, and 3-I highly doubted that the staff had bathed in days, much less washed their hands. I struggled to find the words to say i was disgusted and no longer wished to eat there. I said to myself nimodo, and just said never mind and left. Im glad I did, I probably saved myself a case of salmonella.
Worst place to ever get sushi, they took 1 hour and 43 minutes to give me my order. I got food poisoning from this place! The staff was rude, the tables were sticky and dirty, fresh sushi was warm. Eating from here is like eating sushi from a gas station. DO NOT recommend this place.
The food is terrible and the presentation is awful. Never again will I go there, It might be cheap but believe me its not worth it even if its super cheap!! I usually dont do reviews and in fact this is my first one but I had to do it because thats how terrible this place is. Im sorry to the owner but how can you serve products like this. I bet even you wouldnt eat it them yourselves
Quality of food and service has definitely gone downhill over the years. I used to frequent this place often, especially on MWF, but now the wait is over 40 mins. Even ordering to pick up is just as bad.Not only were our rolls a let down, but they were also incorrect! When we called there was no answer, and after driving back, they were closed and wouldn’t even acknowledge us.
Went in today for lunch with my wife...granted there were about 30 or so people in the place...but most already had their food...took 10 minutes for server to clean table and another 5 minutes for water...we waited over 45 minutes for our food...then to top it off...my roll fell apart with every slice i picked up (this means it was waiting too long before served)...it was lousy and the food was NOT good...(although the rice was yummy)...but id never go back...lousy service/food

2021-08-10I took one personal box that included one roll, five boneless chicken and fries. I choose the shrimp roll, it was really yummy with the bread crumbs on top of it, kinda sweet. But the server misheard my order of buffalo wings instead of bbq wings so for me I didnt enjoy the wings. Apart from that whole experience was good, I will go there again.

2022-06-30I put in my order 10minutes before 7pm, they let me know it was an hour wait. I said okay. I came to pick up around 8:20pm. I get there and they tell me another 15-20minutes. I go back in to pick up 30minutes later. They tell me they’re already boxing up the sushi. I’m sitting waiting and a girl comes up to me and tells me it’s going to be another 7-10minute wait. At this point it’s 9pm. I told her I didn’t want anything anymore and I let her know how long I’ve waited. Have never had this problem with Maki. How are you going to tell me an order I put in 10 minutes before 7pm isn’t ready by 9pm?

2021-02-02Late post, been a little busy lately. Its been almost 4yrs since Ive been here. This is probably my favorite local sushi restaurant. My favorite roll from Maki is the Fire Cracker Roll. The crushed Hot Cheetos on top and the cream cheese in the middle is the perfect match. Now this time I wanted to try some new. As I was looking over the menu, I came across a section called Hot Maki. The Rockefeller sounds so good that I had to try it. Dont let the picture discourage you from trying it. It was in a to go tray, because the lobby is closed. This roll is superb roll.

2022-01-19RUDEST EXPERIENCE EVER. I literally call. And call. & call. And WHEN THEY FINALLY DO ANSWER, they place me on hold. Okay, whatever, I can wait. The issue here is when you have me on hold for 5 mins, answer the phone “hello?” And when I respond “yes?” You proceed TO HANG UP ON ME.Either 1) don’t answer the phone.2) ever since last year, the place has gone to complete ***. The phone service get disconnected, they hang up on you, place you hold forever or just ignore you3) if they do answer, prepare to WAIT. Long.I’ve waited 1 hour and a half for two rolls.4) they never give you your correct change back. They pocket it. And when you do ask, they get upset.5) I’ve heard the chef pick and chose if he wants to have an order placed or not. I’ve also heard him say how long to make them wait depending how “he feels”6) I once ordered a sushi roll that was made completely wrong.I gave them the benefit of the doubt time and time again. But screw this place and the mediocre staff that has been hired and the owners who lack the competency to understand how bad this will affect them in the long run.Nice maki, you just lost a long time customer over the woman in the counter with the accent who hung on me. I was polite. Stick it where it hurts ❣️

2022-02-18Its sad to say they have good food, but even when making a order on the phone. .. you get there and still wait another 30 minutes more!!! A total of 1 hr and 30 minutes since the order was placed and paid for on the phone!!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!
