This place was recommended to me by our moving company. Our antique wall clock had sustained some case damage in the move, including some broken beveled glass. The people were very proffesional and were able to give us a estimate for the case repair, glass, and general servicing of the mechanical portion.Upon picking the clock up, about 7 weeks later, it was near impossible to tell there had been any case damage at all. In fact if we had not known where to look we would have never seen it.The clock has been on the wall for about a month now and has been running it beautifully.
They wanted to charge me over $250 to replace the inner workings of our cuckoo clock from Germany. We took it somewhere else that actually specializes in cuckoo clocks and they fixed it quickly for $36. Apparently the chains were just off and nothing needed to be replaced. Im glad I didnt give McGuires my money.
They underpromise and overdeliver. First, they were only 2 clock shops that came up on a search that could work on this particular clock in the greater Austin area. Two, the price range to service this clock by the few businesses that work on these clocks in the US, was almost double what I ended up paying. Third, the original est time to service this clock was 6 to 8 weeks or more....it was done in 4 weeks. Winner.
I brought my wife’s wall clock in a couple of days ago to McGuires on Burnet Rd. It had belonged to her grandfather. Ian quickly pointed out that he couldn’t fix it just by looking at the housing’s exterior. He then noted that it was not heirloom quality and not worth putting money into it adding that it had sentimental value only. While all this may be true, I felt insulted by his crappy, matter of fact opinion that I won’t share with my wife.Ian? Perhaps you could work on your delivery a little bit. You saw that it was from 1974 but you have no idea if the clock was used continuously thus wearing it out as you diagnosed from casual observation of the housing. In fact, it was used decoratively mostly as the chime was a bit much at times. I will have my wife’s clock fixed because it’s all she has from her deceased grandpa. But, I will not let you touch it.Carlos D
Super nice people that are genuinely dedicated to their profession and take pride in what they do. I have a cuckoo clock from Germany that is very special to me. I recently moved and since then the cuckoo wasnt cuckooing the right amount of times for the hours. I tried troubleshooting via Youtube, etc. and couldnt figure it out so I looked up McGuires and gave them a call. They asked me a few questions and then asked that I bring it in. Right away when I came in the gentleman expertly handled the clock and fixed it on the spot, I even felt a little silly because he was so easily able to fix it! He gave me some advice going forward if the problem happened again, and also gave me tips on the best way to transport it in the event of another move (wrap the chain around the base--I did not know this). He would not charge me, even though I told him I was happy to and should pay him. He simply said if there were more problems, to come back in. Besides the awesome service, they really do have beautiful, one of a kind clocks in there. There should be more places like this! :)
They have fixed 5 clocks for us over the years. My fathers grandfathers clock...2 mid century wall clocks and my mothers clock that was given to her by her grandmother which over a 100 years old..They brought it back to life ..Theyre quality of work is unmatched ..Plus they sell clocks ..I just bought a coo coo clock from them ..that not only brings me joy but my grandchildren ..If your looking for quality merchandise and great customer care I highly recommend McGuires Clocks in Austin TexasSincerelyThe Grahmanns
The folks at McGuires clocks are experts and are extremely professional, as well as pleasant. I purchased a Grandfather clock from the early 1900s and it arrived beautifully packed and ready to set up. This establishment carries both old and new mantle, table and floor clocks, all in great condition, honestly described.Jason is the person with whom I dealt and if I were to purchase another clock, it would be from McGuires.
I have been working on a pallet clock for weeks and when I finally try to put the hands on the clock I completely mess up and made three different trips to a craft store spent over $30 not including gas and time. I found this place using my yelp app and when I called to explain my situation and hoping they wouldnt laugh they asked to bring it in and they would help. Im was in awe that they would take the time to help me with a $10 pallet clock project. The entire staff was so nice and welcoming but specifically Eian was the one who spent the time to help me. Thank you thank you soooo much. I saw what beautiful arrangements of clocks they have and how much they helped others who came Into the store. I will be back .
Took my clock in expecting to leave it for repair, walked out in 30 minutes with it working.Thankfully mine was a matter of winding (had been told I could over wind it somewhere else) so I had been overly cautious. They went over all the instructions with me , all in all I was there for about 45 minutes. In the end they didnt charge me a dime and refused payment when I tried. They said if it does ever die to bring it in and we would talk then.
Great place. I happened upon this place while waiting on a table at kome sushi. I will warn you if you go in your going to by something. Me and my wife went in to blow some time, and walked out with a new cuckoo clock.Since the we have brought my wifes parents clock in. It would not stay running. They cleaned it and oiled it and it has been runnig great.

2022-06-29June 29, 2022:A couple of hours after posting my first review, written on June 17, I received a call from Jason. He and I discussed the problem and talked about several solutions to fix it. I scheduled an appointment with him the following week.On June 22, he spent about 45 minutes to an hour, working on my clock while I waited. When he replaced the brass rods with some others he had in the shop, the clock chimes sounded much better. For one week, I have listened to the clock chime, very carefully, but I can not complain! It sounds almost like the original chimes!Thank you, Jason, for your help in solving my problem! I really appreciate it and I, highly, recommend McGuire’s Clocks!June 17, 2022:I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED! In January, I brought in my battery-operated Seth Thomas schoolhouse wall clock that was approximately 50 years old, chimed on the hour and half hour, beautifully, but it just stopped working.I told Woodrow that I knew it was not valuable, monetarily, but it had sentimental to me. He told me that he could put in a new mechanism for approximately $225, so I decided to let him fix it. A few days later, he called and said it was going to cost a little more, so I approved it and agreed to have him fix it. I, eventually, ended up paying $270.63!Two weeks later, after bringing the “repaired” clock home, I noticed that, immediately, before it chimed, it made a grinding sound and sometimes the chime would “clunk”. I took it back for Woodrow to fix, a second time. Two weeks later, I brought it home and it was still making the grinding and clunking noises. I took videos, so Woodrow could hear the grinding and clunking.A third trip, another two weeks without my clock, and another “re-repair”, the grinding noise is still there, but the clunking is gone. However, the second chime is still not normal sounding.I called and explained that to Woodrow, a couple of weeks ago. He said he could not do anything about it without charging me more money! I’m not sure why they have a “two-year guarantee”!Before deciding to use McGuire’s Clocks, I shopped around, but I chose them because I was impressed with their reputation. Also, years ago, my in-laws had purchased their grandfather clock from them and they were very pleased. Now, almost six months, three round-trips to Austin, and $270.63, later, I have a Seth Thomas schoolhouse wall clock that keeps good time, chimes off key, and grinds on the hour and half hour. Like I said, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED!

2022-03-05I called to inquire about having someone come to my house to service/repair my grandfather clock. The woman who answered the phone was horribly rude, and actually suggested that she walk me through fixing the clock myself, and then expected that I take apart the clock and bring it to her!!!! This is my first grandfather clock, that I inherited, and have not the slightest idea about how to take it apart without breaking anything, AND Id have had to rent a truck or a van just to get it to her, incurring additional expense. How dare she suggest such a thing! She then quoted me an exorbitant price of $1300 to fix the clock in-home, and just really sounded like she didnt care at all about her job or my concerns. I will never use this place! I called a different place that was very nice and came to my house and serviced my clock for the house call price of $250, and my clock is now running beautifully, no thanks to McGuires! This place seems awful!!!

2022-06-30I wanted to buy a clock that was mechanical as a Gift for someone and they were very helpful in showing me. Even though it is very pricey its worth the drive and Purchase. Hope everyone who buys from here gets many years out of their clocks.

2022-06-29I’ve had several mantal clocks cleaned, a wall clock repaired (broken spring), and bought a beautiful 1980s Scottish Drum long case clock from McQuire’s Clocks over many years. Always been given excellent service!

2020-10-24I found this shop online as I was researching Grandfather clocks. The lady answering the phone was very friendly and went out of her way to send me pictures of some clocks in the store. We drove 2 1/2 hours to the store and it was definitely worth the trip. They are very friendly and very knowledgeable. The young man, i believe his name is Ian, spent 1 1/2 hours w us explaining GF clocks and how they work and their history.Big selection of clocks available in the store. We did purchase ours there and also happy to support a family owned businessGreat job, guys!!

2018-11-28I brought in a little German music/jewelry box that had been broken for decades. They started fiddling with it right there on the spot. They took it apart, cleaned and oiled the mechanism, and fixed it right then and there. Now it plays. I forgot it played The Sound Of Music. They didnt charge me anything for it, either. I bought a little pop up ballerina music box for my daughter while I was in there. Cause it didnt seem right not to give them any money. But my daughter loves her little purple fairy music box. Great place, lots of clocks including the German cuckoo clocks... Thanks yall, for helping me out right on the spot. That was really nice. Made the hour drive in worth it!

2017-04-26Mr. Ray Mcguire was a complete sweetheart and helped me with my clock that had a bit of an issue. I was kind of on a budget and really hoped to give this clock as a gift to my mother without too much out of pocket money to repair. Mr. McGuire helped me figure out how to get this old clock ticking again for an unbeatable price not knowing that I couldnt spend too much on repairs or replacements. He was very sweet and wonderful to talk with and great with my little one year old. The other gentleman there was also very kind and also helped us fix my dilemma. McGuires Clocks was recommended by a couple of neighbors and so I made the half an hour trip out there with my one year old and it was well worth the trip. Im considering going back with my 5 year old daughter just to show her all the amazing clocks they have in their shop and because I loved the way they treated me. Very happy. Thank you! :)

2018-11-24I just bought a wall clock keywound. Its a beauty! Archie was helpful, affable, and relaxed. He steered me away from high maintenance Clocks that were not right for me as a parent of 4 meddling small kids. He even advised me to buy nothing at all. But that wasnt possible when theres so many fine clocks here. He even made a requested personal modification on spot - make a switch to turn off chimes. He gave me instructions about how to properly mount the clock. And the price was better than anything we found online.

2016-08-21Great experience, had an old cuckoo clock that was broken. .. was honest with me about the value of the clock and what it would take to fix, more reasonable than another local clock company on price. While I chose to try to fix it myself given the price, they talked me through some options of how to work through the problem and we ran the conversation even a bit after hours, and even gave me a couple spare parts for no cost. Went home and managed to figure it out with the direction given to me... clock now works great. Would totally recommend this place based on my experience with the customer service.
