Metropolitan-A Speakeasy is an upscale restaurant with a comfortable feel to it. We were there there was several groups of people having drinks and talking. The prices did surprise me a little. I ordered the duck, which was done just as I had ordered. It was juicy and very flavorful and there was enough left to to take home and enjoy later. My husband and son had salads with chicken added. My daughter had the quail and was very pleased. Her husband had the steak was very happy with his order. Overall, I would say that the meal was perfect for celebrating our daughters graduation, but in the future I would reserve visits for other special occasions.
I stopped by for a quick bite on the suggestion of a friend while driving through Amarillo. My truck decided to break down as I was leaving the parking spot, so I ended up staying a while longer. All the drinks were great, the staff pleasant (looking at you especially Coby and Tory), and the chicken pasta was amazing! Definitely made a bad day so much better. Give it a chance, Im glad I did
Service was phenomenal, didnt have to ask waiter to refill drinks, he provided service with a smile, wonderful suggestions. I chose the prime which was wonderful, cooked as stated , seasoning was just right for me, potatoes were wonderful & my love had the chicken pasta which was lovely. Chicken was well seasoned and I believe I picked up a hint of honey mustard. After dinner we decided to get shots bartender suggestions and he suggested this. This drink, was amazing. I think he said it was called the Cape Cod Tito. I will definitely be returning.
Atmosphere and decoration was nice! Our table was wobble the whole time. Appetizer & desert were really good! but all three entrees were mediocre and nothing that would bring us back, especially for $30 + entrees. Like mentioned the only thing that would bring us back are the appetizers & deserts.
After looking at all the raving reviews, my partner and I thought: this should be very good! Well we were wrong. The food was very mediocre and the service was not too attentive. Look, Im no food critic, but the food had no visual presence and was bland. We both ordered New Zealand lamp chops (partner is from NZ so we decided to see how it’s done here) and we said to each other: the cuts were inconsistent and the centers were all ranging from medium-rare to well-done. Potatoes on the side were hard and the brussel sprouts were warm and soggy. Very disappointed in this place and not worth the money:(
Husband and I decided to eat here after church …. It was between this restaurant or the X steakhouse down the street. This restaurant was serving brunch and their menu won us over. The plating was done nicely but unfortunately the food was underwhelming. I had the Lobster Benedict and had a difficult time differentiating between the taste of the hollandaise, Lobster filling and the poached egg…. very one note. It came with asparagus which was done well and potato confit. The confit was basically fried diced potatoes with salt and pepper a side that could easily be trumped by any of the drive thru chains. Would it kill them to add some fresh parsley and freshly grated Parmesan to dress it up? I also ordered a griddle cake on the side which was slightly burnt on the bottom. My husband ordered their huevos rancheros w/chicken which was good but not memorable. My husband and I were not in a hurry so it didn’t bother us that it took 40min to bring our meal and besides with the current labor shortages we kind of expect it.This restaurant oozes a high end atmosphere along with a high end drink and food menu but unfortunately would not recommend it. Just for reference YCSF is high on our recommendation list as Chef Scott cares about the taste complexities of the food he attaches his name to.
YEasssss! The atmosphere and cocktails here are fantastic. I have been twice in the last few months, each time the food was good and cocktails excellent. I have seen some comments regarding slow service, however the service is set up so you can sit, enjoy your drink, and have a conversation. We have never had to wait for service. I enjoy this place immensely!
Stopped in last night for a quick bite. I had 2 friends with me, and we were all a bit underdressed. They treated us just like the obviously rich table right across from us, and the service was akin to a middle upper range hip NYC or Houston type place. Very nice, especially for Amarillo. The Lobster Roll was very good, and my fellow diners had great marks for the meatloaf, and the blue cheese steak salad. I took my wife a Lobster Roll sandwich, and she really liked it. This was my second visit, and I will return again. You will want to be dressed at least a little nice here, or you will feel out of place.
The ambiance is spectacular. There was a live band the night I went. The band, Love Sessions, was awesome. Our server, Brisa was attentive, knowledgeable, made great suggestions and accentuated our visit. The drinks were phenomenal and I cant wait to visit again when Im in town.
Blown away this is a five star restaurant with five star staff and five star atmosphere. The selection of beer wine whiskey and unique drinks is amazing. Great date night cozy atmosphere. We had the new york strip and the scallops. You dont find the pairings like this anywhere in amarillo. My boyfriend and i paint the town red and by far this is the most impressive menu in Amarillo
**** UPDATED *****Wow. I have written plenty of reviews-- but usually they are geared toward future consumers looking for an honest review. I was quite surprised to hear from the owner. But what was more impressive was the tone of the response -- not accusatory, or minimizing my experience but wholly accepting of my feelings and apologetic. It is quite rare these days to have a business person accept that someone may have had a less-than-pleasant experience. Simply amazing. So I decided to contact Ms. Sellers and had a very pleasant conversation and accepted her invitation to return. From the beginning, my wife and I were warmly welcomed. We were led to our table and promptly waited on. After we were settled in, I think my wife was still a little gun shy. She wanted to skip an appetizer but I convinced her that we should try the Caprese flatbread. It was superb. I think it helped put her at ease. Next we moved onto our entrees (Filet Au Poivre for her and Metropolitan Meatloaf for me). While my Meatloaf was delicious and very satisfying, my wifes filet was the star of the evening. My wife couldnt stop smiling while enjoying her meal -- the filet was so tender that she was actually cutting it with her fork !!! Let me repeat --- She cut her filet with her FORK!! No knife necessary. By now, we were really enjoying ourselves, so much so that we decided to try dessert -- something we dont typically do while eating out. My wife chose a creme brulee and I had a pina colada cake (i think that is what it was called). A perfect end to a perfect meal. But just as important as the food was the service. My first experience was less than spectacular because of an inattentive waitress. This time, our server was outstanding. He did not dote over us and did not give us special attention. Throughout the evening, I saw him and the rest of the staff treat every table with a friendly yet professional demeanor. It is a true pleasure to see a well trained staff working well with one another and taking joy in their service. In the end, our dinner was a little over an hour. I appreciate the owner reaching out and asking us to try Metropolitan again. It was well worth it.I am proud to give them 5 stars!! My wife is already making plans to treat my father-in-law during his next visit. Thank you Ms. Sellers for a wonderful evening!-----------------------------------------------------------------------(Previous review)It appears to be a great place--but only if you are personally acquainted with your server or the owners. Unfortunately, we didnt have the right connections. Instead, we were treated like an unwanted guest at a dinner party -- relegated to an out-of-the-way table (with uncomfortable chairs) near the kitchen and mostly forgotten. Server wasnt fully familiar with the menu and keep forgetting items. Seems like she finally gave up on us and spent the rest of the evening gabbing and hugging the guests at other tables (must have been family and friends from the looks of it). Although the food was a bit above average, it just took too long to arrive --- apparently the server entered our appetizer order but not the entree order. So after finishing our appetizer, the meal didnt arrive for almost a full hour after - - and that was after we had to grab another server to check for our meal in the kitchen; our server was too busy with other tables. In the end, we spent almost 2 hours at a place we didnt feel welcome. And to top off the entire experience, I had chosen the restaurant because I wanted to pamper my wife on her birthday. Instead, I had to keep apologizing to her for ruining her birthday. Instead of her feeling special, she felt like an inconvenience to the staff. I wanted to like the place so much, but regretted my decision. Next year, I hope I can find a better restaurant to celebrate my wifes birthday.
Ww found the best fine food restaurant in Amarillo. Atmosphere great, relaxing while being served a four- course dinner that was off the chart delicious. The best dinner We have experienced in a long time. Being from the east coast and moving to Amarillo, we had kind of given up on gourmet cuisine, but we found it at the Metropolitan. Wonderful, attentive service and live jazz. We will be back. Thanks for serving the Amarillo area.
Excellent food, wonderful service, & about the coolest atmosphere in Amarillo. It’s not cheap, but given the quality and atmosphere, it could be worse. For a couple- 2 cocktails, 1 appetizer, & 2 entrees around $100.Dress code is important; remember someone might be getting engaged, announcing a new life, or celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime moment; they don’t need somebody’s exposed armpits in the background.
The kitchen really let down the service. We called ahead to let the restaurant know we would be about 15 minutes late to our reservation because my flight into Amarillo was delayed. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by the Manager, where we apologized for being late. He cut us off and said Yes, I know all about it. Okay.... weird. We were sat at the big striped chairs in the back. The ambiance is great. Looks like a great place for cocktails and horderves... however the Appetizers on the menu are glorified bar food... not many choices, and not really catered for cocktails. We ordered the cheese board with charcuterie - the plate was overwhelming, with tiny cheese cubes which look like they were purchased from Sams Club, rotted strawberries, crackers that were store bought, and a massive amount of hot peppers, martini olives and pickles. We didnt even get an introduction as to what was on the board, and just had to figure it out.The Caesar salads were great - nice and cold, not overly dressed, and seasoned well. When it came to our meals, the duck was fantastic! Perfectly seasoned with a paired sauce. Great Stuff. When it came to my steak however, I asked for it to be prepared Medium Rare. I had to send the steak back twice - and it still wasnt cooked properly (I have included photos for each time I received it back from the kitchen) but at least it was edible. Upon each time I got the steak back - returned by the manager twice - he didnt really say much of anything and he kind of hovered which felt a little weird. I wasnt expecting any type of cut on the bill, but it would have been nice to be offered something - at least a free desert or maybe comped cocktail for the fact I couldnt even eat my steak, and by the third time - I gave up on the kitchen and just filled up on everything else to eat. Mashed potatoes were delicious though. Our waiter was great - attentive, and very nice. And again, the place is cute. I can see they are still trying to find out what they are good at... but to claim you are a fine dining restaurant - definitely needs to step up their kitchen game. The appetizer menu needs to have better options - I felt like I could get everything at TGI Fridays. To not be able to prepare a steak properly when that is the one dish you will sell more than anything on the menu - thats a problem.Overall - $200 for a meal and 4 cocktails, definitely not worth it.
If youre looking for an amazing cocktail with the freshest ingredients made by the most amazing mixologists...this is your place. The service here is top notch and seconded by none. Dont know what kind of drink you want? Ask Neal the mix-master to whip you something up. You wont be disappointed.
I had an amazing experience here a few nights ago, and it quickly became my new favorite restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, and the coffee was outstanding. Not only that, but the service was legendary; our waiter was so kind and personable and very helpful. I can’t wait to go again. This is the perfect choice for a great night out.
A very enjoyable experience! The entrees menu is a bit limited in the number of choices but still provides a broad range of choices. Our group very much enjoyed the filet, salmon and lamb choices. Great liquor selection. The service is what youd expect from an upscale restaurant.
For a small town restaurant this is well done. Craft cocktails were good. Wine list was well put together — had some high end selections such as Turley Zinfandel and lower price points that were also interesting. Menu was limited but the options were intriguing. We both had the lamb chops. Paired with a mint mashed potatoes and asparagus. Creative and enjoyable. If I ever came back through Amarillo I would return.
We were visiting friends in Amarillo and decided to try the Metropolitan. Its a slick, shiny and spacious place with plenty of seating but feels private. Our server was very attentive and the food was excellent. If you want to try a place thats a step up from the usual fare, try the Metropolitan. They have a beautiful bar if you just want a nice place to wind down and have a drink. I recommend giving it a try.
I’ve been frequenting Metropolitan since the soft opening and I was impressed the very first time I walked in the door. It’s super swanky, has awesome decor, great love music, wonderful drinks, and a super yummy menu. It’s pretty pricey and the portion sizes won’t satiate a hungry appetite, but it’s a great place for snacking or a dedicated “night out.”I’ve never had a dish or drink that I didn’t like.I would absolutely recommend it for a fancy date, anniversary, or small celebration with friends!
This is regarding owner Laura Sellers and my experience last night at Metropolitan Speakeasy. It was my first time to dine in with my wife and our friends, I was really taken back by how neat the theme and experience was. We sat in high back chairs while black and white mafia films played in the background. The restaurant was busy, the drinks were unique and well crafted- and the food was paired with good seasonings and unique accoutrements.I would like to speak about how great it felt that the owner of the restaurant personally stopped us on our way out and genuinely wanted to know about our experience. Most places just try and get you in and out as fast as possible but Laura spent time introducing herself and talking with us about the restaurant. She made us feel important and it felt good to contribute thoughts. It was a nice touch rarely seen! I look forward to being there again and enjoying more of whats to come.Best,Lex Graham
Food was amazing & had unique flavors. Mac & cheese starter was phenomenal- I ate the filet which was cooked perfectly. The date cake is their signature dessert and was a perfect way to end the meal. Service was great & everyone was very kind. Probably the best dining experience in Amarillo.
This is a fine place for any town, but in Amarillo....a real surprise. There are lots of quality dining establishments in Amarillo, but most of them seem to close with the setting sun , or very soon afterward. The Metropolitan serves a full menu until 10 pm on weekends and the service is far friendlier than some places when you arrive at 9:45!!! They have a very small kitchen with plans to greatly enlarge in the very near future. But, out of this kitchen emerges some very fine food with lovely presentation and quality ingredients. We had their sea bass over an asparagus sauce with beautiful and juicy garden cherry tomatoes. The Diver scallops were also perfectly sautéed with a golden outer surface that encapsulated the inner juices. It was late, as in 11 :15 when we asked our waitress if there might be something of chocolate left in the fridge. She did not disappoint when she brought a lovely chocolate custard with fresh fruit on the top. It was so rich and creamy and deserved a good port to go along with it.
Definitely not as described! Atmosphere was great! Was greeted and seated according to our online reservation request. After seated was handed a menu that had not one thing that was listed online and that we had wanted to order. Only in the evening are these online menu options available. We had, had a very stressful year with our Grandsons health and had been apart so much, as I had to be in Dallas for weeks at a time at Dallas Childrens. My own health and a near death experience. We just wanted to get away and have a stress free enjoyable meal together. Focused on no one else but each other and enjoy an above average meal for our Anniversary. Well... that definitely didnt happen here! We paid $50 (which isnt a problem for a good breakfast meal) but ended up getting a plate of flavorless grits and eggs with (very few) filet mignon bites. My husband asked for salt and pepper and the waitress looked appalled, then took a good 10 minutes after the food was already cold to bring it back. We are both retired Chefs, have sensitive pallets and know what a good meal should taste like. I reached out to management, as I would like done if my establishment had an unsatisfied patron. They seamed concerned and willing to correct the issue when we return. A month has passed and weve been unable to find a time to return to Amarillo. So I reached out to them to see if maybe they could just mail a gift certificate that we could hold until were able to return. They came back with, wed be happy to send you a gift certificate for a round of drink ?!?! Um... that doesnt seem like fixing the issue to me! Thats perfectly fine though,, because after having the meal we had we were leary about trying it again to begin with but was willing to give it a try. Macaroni Joes was our 1st choice, but they were closed so I turned to google for other possibilities as money for a great meal is no issue. The online menu choices and reviews led us here just to be disappointed and end the year the same way the rest of it had gone. Sad and disappointed.
My wife and I are big foodies. We love trying new dishes and atmospheres. That being said, it can be hard to satisfy us here in Amarillo. But tonight we were so surprised at Metropolitan. We had the best dining experience we have ever had in Amarillo. The selection was diverse. The service was spot on. The attention to detail and the imagination of the chefs was brilliant. We cant say enough about this place. We will be going back and recommending it to as many of our friends as possible!
Best restaurant in Amarillo, hands down. The ambiance is great, amazing customer service, and the food...oh, the food. Wow! I had the tenderloin and have to say it was likely the best one Ive ever had. I cant say enough good things about this place. Our waitress, Kinsey, was AWESOME! Me and my husband can get a little chatty sometimes and she listened without getting impatient and gave us incredible service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
The food was amazing and the GM Is a Seahawks fan so how can you go wrong. I would highly recommend the scallops and the steaks are on point. I have only been in town for 1 day and I have been here for lunch and dinner. We tried the Prime Chophouse but we were not impressed. They make great drinks and amazing food. Thank you guys we will be back tomorrow and the next day as we are only here for three days.
My total bill for 2 people was $134.77 (all food except 1 glass of wine & a water). Service & atmosphere were great. Food was subpar (especially for price), same for wine. I dont mind paying premium price for premium food & wine, but I was disappointed in quality. Music did not fit the restaurant, they were playing Please Mr. Postman from the Marvelettes. I would not recommend this restaurant. Other than atmosphere, the only difference between this restaurant and an Applebees is the price.
I went for lunch, and can’t wait to go back! Perhaps for breakfast, or perhaps for dinner. We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. The interior is a very stylish decor. I ordered a Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was amazing. Not only was there fried chicken ,perfectly cooked, the sandwich also had Brie and ham. These were contained inside fresh wheat jalapeño bread. Hot fresh house chips came with the sandwich. For dipping pleasure , a delicious raspberry sauce accompanied the entree. The waitress was friendly and professional. What a wonderful dining experience!
We had a fantastic time!! We made reservations for our 5th wedding anniversary. Addyson was a wonderful and knowledgable server, the drinks were great and the food was amazing. The filet melted in our mouth, the lamb was the best Id ever had, and the whole experience was divine. Fantastic decor, just all around a great meal and a really enjoyable treat for our special day!!
Well its hard to believe youre in Amarillo Texas, when you go to this awesome, awesome new Speakeasy. The beverage selection is really good and the Bloody Mary is fantastic. The selection of appetizers are out of this world. The atmosphere they have created is superb. I am so excited to have a restaurant like this available in my town. If you want to go out, and throw a Blazer on and dress up a little bit. Plus have your significant other feel special and yourself as well, this is the place to go. If youre traveling through I highly recommend this location for a superb meal. JP
I’ve had drinks here before and mostly enjoyed it. Except when a patron spilled water near our table and the waitress said she couldn’t clean it up until after we left. But tonight I slipped away with my husband for a drink on a night when they’re supposed to be open until midnight. We specifically chose this place because it’s open late. However, the waitress came by to say it was last call at 11:09pm and that they’re trying to close early. So much for our date. 🤷♀️ We haven’t been here for long and we would have ordered more but alas. This place is pretty, and the drinks are good, but the service is sort of disappointing.
Loved the atmosphere and our waitress was really good ,our drinks were always full and checked on us often .We had an appetizer, it was a crab salad with crostini and crackers . Paul had the Scalops they were good , they came with 4 medium sized scalps with mashed potatoes and a raspberry risotto. The dish was good . I had the pan seared Sea Bass ,it came with lentals with a tiny bit of spinach . The dish was good over all , I wasnt that crazy about the lentals . We ended up getting a dessert ,it was a date sticky cake (a little on the dry side ) We both had a cocktail ,they were ok, because I dont think we chose the right things. The cocktails had plenty of alchohol though. So over all if we hadnt gotten an appetizer or dessert neither one of us would have been satisfied. On Atmosphere I give it a 10 , service 8 , Food quality and flavor 8 , serving size 6.5, Drinks 8, Price 7 The over all bill with tip was $170. We will give it another try ...
The flavor of the food was fantastic.. nice environment but requires alot of patience .. dont plan a movie or anything scheduled thinking you will have enough time to eat and run.. The food could had been warmer but all together Id give them 4 stars just because the wait time. We were the only table and didnt get out of there for about 2 and half hours. 30 minutes of it was just waiting for the desert to finally come to the table.
I was really excited to try something new with my husband and loved the idea of the theme but was really let down by our experience Friday night . I love being able to have a reason to dress nice and have good drinks and even had to make sure my husband didn’t wear his hat since there were house rules(which I loved!). When we got there I had made a reservation and were seated immediately but were sat in the very back of the restaurant right next to the door to the kitchen. I could barely move my arms because the were constant employees going by and everytime the waitress checked on us she was constantly having to get out of the way of another employee. I thought the inside looked awesome and enjoyed the vibe but I only experienced that walking to our table since where we were sitting we had no view of anything at all. I wanted to enjoy the live music but was on the other side of a curtain and the music was muddled by a group of loud drunk men at the bar (which is not like someone you would have at your mothers on a Sunday like stated in the house rules) and the employees saying “coming in” every other minute they were walking into the kitchen which at times were screamed behind us. And if you are going to go with a strict theme then I think you should stick to it. Like I said i forced my husband not to wear a hat because it was specific on the dress code but more than half the male employees would come out the kitchen wearing shorts and backward hats and the were out on the floor ALOT. The one view that my husband had was of the back of the huge chairs and the tv on the back wall, which they were playing black and white Frankenstein which was actually pretty cool and went with the whole theme but the drunk male crew that I spoke of before had them change it to the baseball game that played in black in white on the tv that I could see which was above the bar! Extremely ruining the atmosphere. I went here to have a romantic fancy night out with my husband. If I wanted to go sit in a back of a bar and watch a baseball game I would of gone somewhere else! Needless to say we had one drink and left. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the drinks were actually very very good and the inside of restaurant was beautiful(from what I saw). I just think they can afford to lose those two tables where we were sitting, with our table right by the kitchen and the other table right next to the unisex bathroom that constantly has someone waiting in line right behind you. We would like to give it another chance but it won’t be anytime soon....and after our whole experience it really pissed me off when we left and there were SEVERAL tables open near the band. I mean hell we would of even been happy with the bar. Maybe if I would of just walked in and said we didn’t have a reservation we would of had a better experience but what was I thinking planning ahead. Maybe set the same standards for your employees that you expect from your customers.
Google the location and check the satellite images if you are going here for the first time at night. The whole centre is large, solitary, and new, making you wonder where they hid the restaurant. The food, drinks and service were all excellent, in a nice atmosphere. It was a great break from the family restaurants and fast food we had traveling to and from Palo Duro Canyon.
Came in here about two weeks ago with a group of 4, after work, there was maybe two other tables occupied. Everyone else got asked what they would like, but me. She came back with their drinks and still didnt acknowledge me. Our waitress, never came back to our table after getting the drinks the first time, and we were there for at least 45 min. My friends had to go to the bar to cash our their tab. Would have given this place a 1, but at least my friends got a drink. So disappointing. Wont be coming back.
Stopped by the Metropolitan on Saturday April 5th for dinner and a drink. They were advertising that they would have the Texas Tech/Michigan BB game on the TV. Had some stuffed mushrooms and grilled halibut with a glass of white wine. Was sitting at the bar by myself when a couple sit down next to me. He introduced himself as the owner and when his wife set down he corrected that and said she was the owner.

2021-07-30Im visiting from Wisconsin and it was my 1st time here. The food was delicious, my drink was so refreshing and to top it off, the desert was fabulous! Definitely would recommend this place. And our server was not only friendly, she was very efficient.

2021-08-28One of the highest class of speakeasy Id been to. I only had the chance to have some whisky drinks and cocktails since we visited after steal dinner. But all guests were polite, high class with great maner. If you plan to take your other half to indulge in an environment that makes you feel honored to bring yourself and the guest here! The entire staff although underhanded, have been very attentative and took care of us. We are traveling thru on business trip, and now we must stop by Amarillo for this special Metropolitan!

2022-07-13I am giving this place a 5 star review. The waitress Torri and her hospitality, service, cleanliness, with the restaurant was perfect. The imagery, was excellent, the noise not too loud, like places Ive been before. Now for the food. I chose prime steak, with garlic mash potatoes, and brussel sprouts, in a red wine glass. To drink a Johnny Walker Black scotch. This meal, and drink came out perfect. Definitely going to recommend this place for anyone coming through. Price was reasonable, considering what I had and where I was. Would come back if I lived here. Maybe they could open up one in Tulsa Oklahoma? LoL

2018-12-16Great atmosphere for hanging out classy, dressy place, nice menu, not many dessert options but great drinks menu that can compliment the small bites, or whole dinner you may decide to have. Live music on Friday night while I was there... brunch on Sundays from about 10. Friendly staff, knowledgeable about non alcoholic drinks and alcoholic drinks.

2018-08-25We had an amazing night at Metropolitan. The atmosphere was great, the live band was entertaining, yet we could still have a conversation. The food was spectacular! The four of us shared the cheese board. It had different cheeses, fruit, meats, and crackers, all drizzled in honey. We also shared the pork belly sliders with jalapeno aoli. Two of us split the special, which was a seafood board. The other two split the Filet Mignon. For dessert we had sticky date pudding and deconstructed smores. Our waitress was superb. It was an amazing date night.

2022-03-29Unbelievable place best breakfast I ever had definitely going back ever chance I can
