Mikes Garden Centers in other cities:
When I walked in my mom and I were not greeted. I actually said hello to the man at the register and he looked at me like I was crazy. Ill give them 4 stars because they have the best plant selection Ive ever seen and the woman who checked me out was so nice and put the plants in my car.
While they have nice stuff and plenty of selection, unfortunately they are the most expensive garden center in fort worth. You wont know it bc you think since its tucked away in a lower income shopping center that you may be getting a deal, but i brought my mom along this time who wouldn’t let me purchase anything there. She told me to compare prices bc these were too high.Sure enough, went to Archies, Lowes and Home Depot in bother succulents and annuals they were significantly more overpriced. Makes me a little annoyed unsure how long its been this way but i hope its a brand new change bc i had been shopping there for a few years now.
Let the buyer beware. There is a reason this has a 3+ star review on Facebook. The sign on the door says no exchanges or refunds. OK. I got that. I spent $142 dollars at my own risk. I bought a steed holley on March 6 and on 27 May it is dead. Watch out for Charlie! Let me give you a free translation that is not on his sign. They sell defective merchandise which I can prove and they are completely absolved of any responsibility. In other words, a free pass. A employee, name given to BBB said I’d be taken care of since I spent so much money. Not so according to Mike, the owner. One would think that he’d have integriy to honor his workers’ promises. So, I spent the money. The tree died. They won’t even work out something out . But that story is for BBB with names and dates and evidence. Mike says bring it on. OK. He’s been in business 55 years he says. But I haven’t complained yet. Do reputable gardens centers not guarantee their plants. What’s Mike so afraid of?
One of the most under rated businesses on the Tarrant side of the metro IMO. Literally hidden behind an Italian restaurant on the side of Crowley road, pull in next to the mini mart. This place never ceases to amaze me. Big, rotating stock choices from pots to plants to most everything you need for your garden, Mikes has you covered. Knowledgeable, friendly staff always to help you with your choices and questions. My only complaint (notice the quotes...lol) is the sales staff is too good. they see us coming and manage to separate us and we leave with more than we intended. its never pressure, just good folks who know gardening, helping out another dirt nerd. Loyal customer for over 20 years! Another big location in Grapevine/Southlake off the 114. Go forth and plant!
It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Mike’s and it may be a few more before I go back. The woman was talking on the phone to a customer and I assume she was a owner Because she was not being all that polite to the customer. I came for pre-emergent she told me where it was I ask her how much her bag treated and she said 5000 ft.². Get home read the label and it’s about 4 pounds per thousand square feet. It’s a 12 pound bag. I would like to shop at smaller places But if you’re going to get bad information you may as well get it at a lower price elsewhere. Update, it seems like this place really wants you to go to the big box stores. I was there for a half hour place was not very busy and this time the cashier was talking to some friend in the store. Never had the chance to ask anybody questions.
This place customer service is terrible, I came in to buy a bunch of Nellie Stevens Holly, And they charge me double the price, When I told them they made a mistake the owner started raising his voice at me and yelling at me, And making a big scene, He started yelling something about the sale price, refused to listen about me telling him they charged me double for my plans, Really this is how the owner of this place acts, This guy tried to pick a fight with me in the middle store, If you wanna be treated really rude, And have someone yell at you about their mistake, shop here!!!
My only complaint is that it feels like the pottery is overpriced, but they have frequent sales on them that kind of help make them...you know, normal-priced lol. Otherwise, a pretty top tier store for plants. Theyve got one of the most diverse culinary plant selections Ive ever seen in the area, too.
Super nice nursery. Highly recommend it as their plants are in very good healthy condition and properly pruned.Pricing is super affordable. Wide selection of everything. Friendly staff. Cute pets ! Love the cats.Very wide variety of garden supplies as well that I could not find anywhere else.
Stopped in today looking for two maple and one plum tree(s). Prices are extremely reasonable (at least half of what you would see at lowes or home depot and extremely more healthy). The sale going with the trees made it even more of a steal. The folks working here are super kind and happy to help. Even though I have a small sedan car, an employee helped me make it possible for me to gets the trees home myself. Extremely wonderful people and I will be back!
Terrible customer service at the Crowley location!!! Terrible access and parking lot! We went specifically on Wednesday for the Sr Citizen discount day. They would not honor that as the items that we bought were on sale...even though the ad never mentions that. When we asked 3 separate times about specific plants and their location, we were just pointed in a general direction. When loading the multiple plants onto a cart and then when unloading into our truck, we had absolutely no help. I asked the rude cashier if there was anyone to help load our truck with our two large carts full of plants and was told theres someone out there. Nope! Not a soul! We learned our lesson and will not be back!!
I can always depend on Mikes Garden Center to buy plants or trees, that you wont find anywhere else. I would have given them 5 stars except for the fact that I had to go into their 5 gallon trees assortment and find the Mimosa tree my husband wanted (the employees did try to help). Expect the prices to be higher then if youre used to buying at Lowes or Home Depot. Over the years I have bought plants, or trees from this store that are still growing to this day.
I’m not sure what happened from last year to this year, but the prices are astronomical. The mark up is not even reasonable. I bought a tree from here last year for 80, the same tree and bucket size this year is 269. Red yucca that sell for 7.99-14.99 last year and everywhere else is now 39-49 here for a 1 gallon. Just wow. We will definitely not come back.
This used to be my go-to nursery for all my plants. The last few years it has gone down hill. The plants are often in poor condition. The selection is not what it used to be. The worst thing I think is that the service is very poor now. The people at the register the last few times I have been there have not been able to answer even simple questions. I still keep stopping there because it is located on the way between me and the market where I shop. I did find a spearmint plant there when everyone else was out. It was a sad specimen but has improved with much TLC. I suppose if I had not shopped there for years when it was the best garden center in the area I would not be as disappointed in it now. Parking can be a nightmare. Other businesses have been built around it and now with the stuff they have stacked in the parking area and all, they are down to far too few parking spaces and they are a bit hard to get my full size crew cab truck in and out of. My last stop there was only 6 parking spaces.
Called the Southlake store was on hold for 15 minutes, never could get through the phone was always busy.Called the Ft. Worth office the lady who answered the phone was so rude and all I was wanting to know is if they had wood sealer for raised garden beds.I have spent a lot of money at Mikes every year, but will take my business somewhere else. I’m sure they don’t care, but there is no reason for rude behavior.
Remember coming here with my mother, as a child, it was a Wolf Nursery back then. Now im 46 years old & i still bring my mother here to shop for her home as well as, me shopping for my home. Mikes Garden is a great place. Prices can be a lil higher than a Lowes or a Home Depot but the quality of the product & the selection is much better in my opinion. I will continue to shop here as long as the doors are open. 👍
I was there about an hour ago & the lady that sits there eating sunflower seeds was NO HELP AT ALL she was rude -I showed her a picture of the plant I was needing help with & that mold was growing around the base of the planter & she told me so what about it? Then everything I said to her after that she popped sunflower seeds & rolled her eyes before answering I recommend going ANY WHERE BESIDES here. A guy who worked there come over & told me to give it some food & more dirt & it would probably be ok HE should be running the front counter NOT the lady who just eats sunflower seeds!!
Mike knows his stuff and is VERY friendly. I showed him pictures of brown spots that were on my lawn and within seconds he knew exactly what my problem was and how to fix it. The prices are a few percentage points higher than the box stores, but his service is worth it.As for the negative reviews about Mikes WIFE the Asian woman, she had no problems showing me where to buy some diotamaceous earth. This is the place to go for all your gardening needs.
Mikes Garden Center has garden items that you will NOT find in the big box stores. Garden chemicals of all types and kinds. Fertilizer Both organic and inorganic. Both indoor and outdoor plants, decorative and fruiting. Seeds in packets and in bulk. All sorts of gardening tools, irrigation supplies, pots, and potting supplies.Pretty much an all inclusive gardening center.
I love Garden centers. I used to love this place. The lady running the cash register could care less about your needs. Just trying to get the cash then flush your ass right on out the door.UPDATE :Havent been back in a year and I lived! LolI have ran into so many people asking the same question, why is the woman at the register so rude? must be a cultural deal, I think she is Korean, or at least Asian and just wants you raggedy ass out if that line and gone. I love talking to my garden center people to see what I might need. Not here.NO SOUP FOR YOU!
No one offers to help. As I struggled to get two large pots to my car, I was then approached by a worker wanting to see my receipt. I put down my purchases and dug out my receipt. He then let me pick up the awkward pots and be on my way. Horrible customer service. I havent been back.
Knowledgeable advice from the staff. I love the resident kitties. I was a little startled by the resident poochies (Chihuahuas?) that came to investigate when I let my dog out the car to relieve himself. Wide selection of plants. Everything isnt labeled clearly but the staff is friendly and helpful.
I called around to find shrubs to build a hedge in my back yard. Three other stores didnt have the redtips in stock. Mike had over 400 when I only needed 40. The salesman helped me out and offered a better shrub that was less expensive. It is disease resistant and drought resistant. It has a fragrance unlike the redtips. I was impressed with his knowledge and helpfulness. While other stores were charging $25-30 for redtips, Mikes had them on sale for $9.88. The shrubs I was offered were for $7.99. Delivery charges to North Fort Worth was only $30. Gas alone would cost me that much. I was very impressed with the inventory, service and prices. I believe they offer a great deal more than other nurseries.
Mikes Garden Center has gone down hill from last year. All I can think of is the pandemic aka CovidEverything is so overpriced. the clay pots are unbelievably expensive. Plants looks tired and over watered OR underwatered.I have left empty handed the last 2 times. Maybe 2021 will be a better year to go to Mikes
=====================ZERO STARS===========================BE AWARE!! BAD QUALITY PLANTS, OVERPRICED AND NO REFUNDS!EVEN THE OWNER WILL NOT HELP YOU.............STAY AWAY!==========================================================I bought $200 worth of plants from the Mikes garden center Southlake store. Some of the plants looked in distraught and I was advised by the staff that due to the plants being in the greenhouse they look that way but in a few days and once they are planted and the sun hits them they will be great. I believed that.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OVERPRICED! 33% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN EVERYONE ELSE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After my purchase I discovered that I was ripped off! The majority of plants on the floor there was priced at $8.99 you can get MUCH CHEAPER and better quality at Lowes and Home Depot for $5.98. I called back and they said NO REFUNDS. They told me that Lowes and Home depot can buy cheaper and offer plants at a cheaper price.(How are they still in business if that is what they tell customers).I accepted that as my fault for not doing my homework and being careful about their policy when buying. However, what I was told is that they have better quality plants. Which takes me to the quality issue.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------BAD QUALITY---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------One month after I planted the plants, the ones that were in distraught started dying! I have other plants in the same bed that are doing just fine. This shows how incompetent the staff was and how they wouldnt give you the correct information.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------BAD SERVICE------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I called back a month later cause I could not take it anymore, and I was put on hold, very unprofessional when answering their phones, and I was told the manager cannot speak to me now and they took my name and number so he can call back. No one called. I then called them the next day, they said the manager is off and we cannot help you, call tomorrow.THIS IS WHEN I HAVE HAD IT. I called the Fort Worth store and decided to talk to the owner, MIKE COOK SR.To give them the benefit of doubt, I told Mike what happened and that I intend to leave a review but wanted to give him a chance to correct the issue, he again stressed their policy and that they cannot do anything to help me. I was not asking for a refund! I asked him very professionally and politely if they would EXCHANGE the dead plants, he said NO. I told him thank you and I would like to make everyone aware to PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK before buying from this place. If there was a ZERO STAR I would give it to them.
Problem store;. I called said they had grass. I drive over , they dont have any. They said would have some Monday. I call Monday .Grass Didnt come in They said they would have some Wednesday . I reminded the lady they said it would be in Monday . I ask , how do you know it will come in Wednesday. She hung up on me . I called back to ask for the owner or manager . She said they were on vacation . I think she lied about them being on vacation . Cant recommend this store. Ill shop somewhere else
Went there for Bamboo. This place is paradise for gardeners. The variety is incredible. Wound up going back for some palm trees. It is fun to wander around and get lost in the different sections. Staff are helpful and friendly. Plan to go back for flowers after trees are planted.
After cutting thru several rows of plants and dirt, I took the plant I wanted to the counter and was told the sticker prices on all those plants are wrong, and it would be a higher price. Nevermind that this plant had completely uprooted and was hanging over the side of the pot. I asked if I could have it for the sticker price, and was told no. I left the plant on the counter.
The Fort Worth location has parrots in deplorable condition. The manager tried to tell me they visit the vet and they have a clean bill of health and expected me to believe that he takes them to the vet, ever! They do not have toys, only 1 perch available, diet of sunflower seeds and nothing else and literally no enrichment whatsoever. He tried to explain that they came from the zoo and the zoo expert they got them from shops there and checks on them and says they are in good shape. The sun conure is plucking all its feathers and the cages they are in are outdated with chipping paint (which tells me they are poisonous) and this gentleman honestly expected me to believe his load of lies. If that is truly the case, these vets and zoo professionals are not worthy of their positions caring for animals. I will not patronize Mikes based on this alone. I buy a lot of plants and I enjoy the Southlake location quite a bit so I thought I would check this one out. I am deeply heartbroken by this situation and will be contacting authorities based on evidence of abuse.

2022-06-01Mikes is wonderful! It’s has all the feel of a local garden shop with tremendous options! Trees, veggies, flowers, tools, chemicals, pottery, decorations, and more! Ask for help and you’ll get it. Prices are very fair. Avoid the box stores and go to a local!

2022-07-02Bought two Sky pencil holly shrub trees which had been oddly marked down with a few yellow leaves. Still spent $250 on the pair. We got them home and the leaves continued to turn yellow. We planted them, followed all the instructions for caring for them, watering them, soil prep etc but they still continued to die. We even bought fungicide to try and bring them back. After completely dying we called and the lady who answered the phone was very rude and told me I didn’t water them right and that they don’t guarantee their plants. I’m now out close to $300 and a lot of time spent caring for these bad shrubs. Do not buy from them! It’s at your own risk! They don’t care about doing the right thing by customers.

2022-05-18We bought two Red Dragon Japanese a maple trees. Charlie told us they were dormant and would come back to life in Spring. They look the same today as they did when we bought them in the winter. We called and Charlie said he would come look at them a few weeks ago. He did not come. Today we brought the trees in to show them to him. The man working there pointed to the “NO RETURNS! NO EXCHANGES!” sign. When I said we won’t be shopping here any longer. He simply shrugged his shoulders.

2022-09-15Well, first time here and no signage by the road so we almost passed it. The place looked a little tired with the plants being very overgrown and needed some attention. They had a lot of variety but everything was pushed together making them leggy. Most of plant pricing was average to slightly higher than most nurseries. They did have items on sale but the signage was on the door and not on the plants so it makes it hard to see what the price is. The sloping walkways were a little hard to navigate and slippery, especially after they just watered them. There was one guy at the checkout that seemed nice and greeted us. Overall this place good be a lot better if they had a few more staff to keep the plants up, straighten out the rows, add signage and did some minor improvements to the grounds. Maybe it was a bad timing coming off the hot summer but first impressions tell a picture. Maybe the spring is the time to come when everything is fresh.

2022-04-23I love this place. I wish they carried more locally grown stuff. Or made that more prominent. Outside of that, I love everyone who works there. They take such great care of the place and its a beautiful grounds to spend time wondering around in. The staff is very helpful and are happy to answer questions. Especially up front. Be patient and have fun! Its a great place to get lost.

2022-07-02BUYER BEWARE! Buy at your own risk. If they sell you a bad plant, shrub, tree etc and it dies they will not do anything to help you. They instead will blame you for the improper care. I’ve been gardening my whole life and know how to follow instructions and care for plants and the soil. When I called to tell them they sold me bad shrubs and asked to exchange them they cut me off from speaking and said all they can offer me is advice on how to better care for plants in the future! Very rude!!! I lost $280 because they sold me bad shrubs and there is nothing I can do about it. I see they’ve treated other people this way as well based on the reviews. SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE that guarantees their product. Calloway’s, Lowes, etc.

2022-06-15Found this gem one day looking for a local nursery to support my gardening habits! This place is magnificent! They have so many greenhouses that are endless! They sell seedlings and rare breeds of vegetables and plants! I’m obsessed and now it is my weekly mini happy place!lol

2022-05-09Good place to find nice plants/flowers. Last years prices were better though. But theres one complaint I have. The customer service needs improvement! I receive better customer service at Lowes. When asking if Mikes has a certain plant/flower, the staff rarely take the time to actually show you where its located. Alot of plants are not labeled and Im fairly new to gardening, so I dont always know what they are. Understand if youre working the register, but should be able to callbon other staff to assist.

2022-06-27I went there a while back for the first time and one of the workers said if I’m having twins and that really offended me. I didn’t ask for his opinion or anything, and yes I’m pregnant and short, but I don’t think as a worker you should say those things to a customer, it’s really rude. As well, everything there is really expensive compare to the other garden centers. It’s bad customer service at this location and I’m for sure not coming back. I’m for sure not coming back again.
