Half price admission Sunday! What an unexpected blessing. Had a quiet walk through the exhibit and explored the amazing installment of Sean Scully: shape of ideas. Looks like my significant other got the idea to propose here along the catwalk upstairs! Wow! Memorable and peaceful experience! Would definitely come back and view different peoples work.
Very clean and spacious. Can reasonably knock out the whole museum in 2-3 hours at most. Would recommend returning every now and then throughout the year to see what is rotated in and out. Im not a particular fan of modern art in comparison to renaissance era artwork but it was a nice experience all the same.
Great way to spend the morning. Its larger than it seems at first and theres a nice variety of exhibits. Everyone under 18 is free and they have special discount days. Plenty of areas to sit and take a break. Theres a small outside exhibit area as well.Free parking available, clean bathrooms, neat little gift shop, and a cafe.3 adults (+3 free kids) = $48
Great Museum in the heart of the Museum District in downtown Fort Worth. This museum is huge. I went from room to room filled with art and sculptures. This was a collection of female artists with female subjects. It was truly an emotional experience as I meandered throughout the museum commenting on each painting. Commenting on how How these painting affected the depths of my heart and soul and my interpretation. It’s a beautiful collection.
We really enjoyed visiting the museum to watch Jazz Fest: a New Orleans Story. The movie provides history and intricate details about the formation and continuation of Jazz Fest, the different types of music which formed jazz, and the multitude of cultures that perform at Jazz Fest. I recommend that anyone who visits the museum watch the movie. It was fabulous and tons from multiple points of view.
Interesting collection of art if you like modern art. Some of it is questionable as to whether or not its ART as there is literally just an LED floor display that if youre prone to migraines and seizures best to stay away from and theres a tall stick that is apparently art because theres squares on it. There is a few painting that legit look like something my preschool students painted but overall the place is nice for a day of wandering out and seeing something unexpected. Theres some hidden gems in here though that are quite beautiful. Modern art isnt my style, but if you love eclectic and out there stuff then this is your place!
Really great museum, and my favorite one in texas. i went to the “women painting women” and while i understand why some people are critical of how graphic it is, there is a warning about how it may not be family friendly so im assuming they knew what they were getting into unless the sign was just recently put up. the exhibit was thought provoking and meaningful. i really enjoyed it and the other more famous peices are also very interesting and cool. place was clean, swept, and front desk was friendly. definitely worth a visit.
This is one of my most favorite places to visit inFort Wort. The Modern art museum, designed by the architect Tadao Ando, is a marvel. I would describe it as the most beautiful wall that ever hung art. Its incredible that simple materials like concrete, glass, and metal could be arranged in such a majestic but also serene way. And Im sure some imagine the Modern is a one time visit kind of place, but I disagree. Depending on the time of day, the light coming in, transforms the atmosphere of the buildling. I didnt know congrete, glass, and metal could be so many different colors depending on the light hitting it. And the lake that hugs the side of the building, does a great job reflecting the beauty of the architecture. The lake is there to subtlety remind everyone, that this building, is art too.
This is a perfectly fine museum. I appreciate many of the pieces but it always baffles me why modern art tries so hard and acts so pretentious. Too often there is some convoluted underlying meaning behind it, many with a title of Untitled. Why not let it just be a creative piece of art? I think art is supposed to be about personal expression, not a lesson in philosophy or social injustice. The viewer can attach their own meaning if they desire. Maybe the artist, dealer or curator does this to justify the expensive painting of just 3 dots? Or a fluorescent light? Not sure Ill ever understand why thats art. I did enjoy a few exhibits esp when I didnt read the title or story.
This museum is great! They had pieces from well known authors such as Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol! The rest of the art was obviously carefully and thoughtfully chosen. It was a delight to see! The parking was plentiful and free. The price was more than reasonable at ten dollars per person (students and military get a great discount). If you enjoy art, museums, and/or art museums, then I strongly recommend you check this place out!
I had a great time here. I saw the Takashi Murakami Exhibit there The octopus eats its own leg. It was awesome. The cafe was great, with quality brunch and great service. Some of the people who worked there at the show (the staff that shows people around) were noticeably rude. They had no smile or anything and were giving off unfriendly vibes. The lady at the gate was not even offering floor maps to new visitors if not asked for.Overall a great experience and I will go back there. But please get mature staff like at the Kimball. These rude kids-staff on the floor belong to malls and fast food places.
I really like the restaurant at the Modern, the food is fresh and tasty. They have a great selection and good drinks. Im a fan of their shistos, they are not covered in anything, just some light flavoring. Their quinoa is addicting. The best part is being able to walk off your meal by visiting the museum. Especially on their free days. The restaurant can be a bit pretentious but with the great views and delicious food, i can handle ;)
Ive been to this muesum twice and Ive loved it both times. They always have some crazy exhibit. Beautiful muesum, and its in the middle of a bunch of other museums so you can visit so many things and make it a date or a fun day out! They have a small cafe located in this muesum. Its adorable and of course priced at what youd expect. It is 50% on most sundays but suggest always calling or verifying online. This is a 2 floor muesum and has a beautiful outdoor area available via the cafe.
A few of Monets paintings. While looking room to room through the display, I had a $3 audio device to listen, at my leisure, to the Monet story of the paintings. I felt emotion in his paintings and then rested from the experience while grabbing a coffee and hearing beautifully played classical music ( I believe I was told from the later 1800s). While passing between buildings, there were several umbrellas set aside to save us from the constant misting and rain.I visited the gift shop, with too many creative items to list here. One thing I took home was a Monet inspired sleep mask.
Amazing place, the building is stunning, the art, the permanent exhibition, the location, parking, the mirror pool...... you can go every weekend and enjoy a quiet place just to take a break from daily life, floors are hard so wear some comfy shoes. Enjoy the place, its beautiful. Usually free on Sundays but thats about to change for the summer, check the website.
This place was amazing!!! The architectural design of the building was phenomenal. It really felt like I was in a art museum. And it was free. Theres another museum nearby 2 withing walking distance that we visited at the same time. And they are also free on certain days.
The building itself is a work of art. Love the traveling installations and most of the permanent collection. My favorite is Conjoined, the beautiful sculpture of two silver trees located outside. I never tire of seeing it. A visit to this museum is a great way to spend an afternoon.
A BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM! Thought provoking permanent collections! Intriguing special exhibits! Presently through January 10, 2020the invigorating exhibit of “Mark Bradford: End Papers”! Relaxing is the scene of their reflecting pool! Great gifts found in their gift shop! A favorite spot of ours in Fort Worth.
Ft Worth has a lot of great museums and this is my favorite. The exhibits are great and the building is awesome inside and out. The restaurant has a great brunch and a pretty good happy hour too. There is also a movie theater that has many showings a month, and some of them are free. This museum also hosts the Fortress music festival every April with a bunch of great acts. The exhibits have free admission every Friday and half price one other day. Definitely check this place out when you can.
This museum is absolutely fabulous! Not only does it have gorgeous architecture in the building itself, it has art for everyone! It does not only have Modern Art but every kind of art you can imagine. If you are on a budget, you can even go in and look around there beautiful gift shop and go outside to the beautiful Sculpture Garden all for free. They also have a very affordably priced lunch buffet that is actually very well known for being both delicious and budget-minded. Check their website for free or discounted days as they offer both.
Just came here 2 days ago for the kaws exhibit and I drive 2 hours to come see it . It was my first time ever coming to an art museum. The staff was nice . Took a lot of pictures it was a great experience tickets were cheap . The Art pieces were amazing the art setup was nice . It was only on the first floor I thought there was more upstairs but it was different art pieces but other then that it was great . They have a little shop where I bought a companion for my husband.
My family brought me here a long time ago and I will never forget it.. so beautiful and so much interesting art pieces.. Its not expensive at all and you see things you wont see any where else in the world. Its probably one of the best ways to spend a few hours walking around. I cannot wait to take my kids here and give them that amazing experience that I shared with my family. If you ever thought about coming here, please come check it out
Personally, I dont enjoy art or seek it out. But it was required for me ot visit one art museum in the area for my Art Appreciation class. So I looked through the type of art I would most enjoy and I came across the modern art museum of fort worth. This museum contains Post World 2 art and have many different exhibitions. When I went, they were displaying art by contemporary artists Lorna Simpson, and KAWS. The experience was overall really fun for me because the museum was well-kept and the museum staff were very helpful in directions and whatnot. Will try and visit again.
This museum is a delight to visit, with its airy architecture and its impressive permanent collection. Some of the exhibits blend in well with the museums architecture or the landscape outside the museum. I was pleasantly surprised by the temporary exhibition of Japanese artist Takashi Mukarami. This museum is a complement to the equally excellent Kimbell Museum and Amon Carter Museum next door. If you plan to visit all 3 museums (Amon Carter, Kimbell and Modern Art) by public transport, you should visit the Amon Carter Museum first, which is at the top of a slope. Kimbell Museum is halfway down the slope and the Modern Art Museum is at the bottom of the slope.(P.S. One of the galleries in the Takashi Mukarami exhibition is NSFW. Be careful if you are bringing kids.)
Caught a movie at the Modern. Its a great place to see a movie if you havent already. Also an amazing space to see some thoight provoking art, grab a bite or a drink and dont get me started on the cool things they have in the gift shop. Hands down one of my favorite places in Texas.
Its hard to enjoy a place when u are being followed at all times at least if your going to follow me talk to me i did not know i paid for a guided tour with the staff not talking to me just following i got their 30 minutes to closing but if you did not want me in their that late then just dont sell me the tickets should have just asked for a donation worst experience ever with the worst customer service
We never went inside. I have always wanted to go here. I took my son there to take pictures. Parking was easy and close. They have great art on the outside of building. In the picture below, he is standing in one of the art pieces outside the building. When you are inside of it and you say something it echos. It was a lot of fun!
The modern arts museum was absolutely fabulous after eating at Cafe modern and having a few drinks a few of my friends and myself walked around and viewed all the beautiful arent they had on display ranging from Picasso all the way to more modern painters and artists.I really enjoyed this museum I would highly recommend Cafe modern as well as the museum.
Beautiful building with great art inside, I managed to visit on a half price day (first Thursday of every month I think?), otherwise a ticket would have been $16. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the docents caught me before I left and asked if Id seen a sculpture that guests sometimes miss. Indeed, I had walked by the path to it, so she pointed me in the right direction, and I was able to see a memorable art piece! Thankful for that type of kindness.
Took my daughter so she could get extra credit for her art class. So glad I did! First time in a museum in years. The staff up front was friendly. Everything is well spaced out and the setting for each piece is tailored to the experience desired. Different exhibits/pieces have different lighting. One of my favorites was Ladder for Booker T Washington which was a handmade ladder suspended in mid-air that curved slightly and narrowed as you get to the top.I also enjoyed the sculpture that is a book with wings. It is a huge free standing piece and I dont know how he managed to make it stand by itself with lead wings extending about 5 feet on either side. There was also a large modern painting of an African-American man in a Starter type coat on a powerful horse that was really cool. Rich colors and great detail. We went late on a Sunday, so we only got to check out the 1st floor and a small part of the 2nd floor. I look forward to going back.
Free Fridays are great for students and budgeters alike— I love exploring the new pieces. The Modern is a jewel with a diverse collection of eclectic and beautiful eccentric pieces. Theres such a wide variety in this huge museum.I love the featured stories. Also the echo tower near the front doors is a fun way to start your experience.
The exhibits are wonderful. I wont go into detail because you can read about them on the website. I was happily surprised to be given free admission because Im a teacher. Honestly, the place is breathtaking. There is a waterpool surrounding the back of the building that is so effervescent. I cannot begin to describe the diversity and intensity of the exhibits. Truthfully, I was never a fan of modern art, but this museum has changed my mind. You should go.
Has very nice art work and is large.however, they have one art work that photos are not allowed. It is marked very tiny in a symbol thumb size with the painting description.nowhere else is it written. accidentally tried to take a pic of it,was told real loud by an employee not to.put away the phone started walking was being followed by the employees the whole time.even heard a mgr looking guy telling another employee about it. At last I got a vacation, picked your museum to have fun, couldnt enjoy it and left.MAKE THE SIGN BIGGER and yall should not be following ppl around like that.very disappointed. The museum owner needs to re evaluate employees.
Excellent assortment of modern art. I knew this was going to be a good place when I saw a KAWS piece at the entrance. The price of admission was stellar (10.00) when you consider all of the cool art this museum houses. Very glad I invested the time to check this place out.
I enjoyed my visit here. The works on display were the museums collection because they were installing a visiting display. But admission was free so Im not complaining. It took as long to look at everything as I wanted to be there. Some of it was very impressive, some was art I thought I could have done. But thats modern art. Overall an enjoyable time.
Amazing layout. There was a guard at every station that made you feel safe. The artist was Takashi Murakami, among others. Also saw the art of Pablo Picasso. Each piece of art was exciting and the information listed by each piece was thorough. Admission charge was the only $16. per person which is very reasonable. Definitely want to go back.
What a beautiful place, especially lit for the holidays. I found the pieces inside engaging and the aesthetic pleasing. Accessibility with a stroller was 100% doable. The resonance chamber outside was a total mystery to my 4 year old and I think he still believes its a form of magic even though we tried to explain echoes and the shape. We wandered in by mistake originally, but spent half an hour just exploring and my kids demand to go back sometime soon, so we sure will. Were a family of artful people, and seeing them get engaged and interested in art made my night.
Very nice place. It was a little light on things to see, but I think we went during a pretty sizable exhibit transition. There was a particular piece my friend and I probably poured over for 15 minutes trying to decipher. I think our exuberance made the nearby attendant nervous...lol.
4 stars for their wonderful view, really good food and almost affordable prices. Actually dropping $25 a head for a fancy brunch is not excessive in some circles. The food is good and the view is spectacular. If you dont go all out with drinks and desert you will spend closer to $15 per person. Use that difference on tickets to the museum. Thats wonderful too.
Went with some friends on a free Friday and had a really great time. The museum is clean and very well kept. The attendants watching the art are attentive, pleasant and almost invisible unless they need to remind people of etiquette. It was nice that you could go in any direction and still get to see everything in a smooth and easy flow at my own speed.I drove over and hour to see these special pieces and was very pleased with my experience. Thank you for offering the free days as it made it even more appealing to make it out there and do it on a budget.
If you want to see something that will inspire you and spark your imagination the modern art museum is for youFloors of things for they eyes to see that cant be found on tv with blank stairs and minimal brain activityBreak the Brian fog and treat your mind to things that have been made by hand that is almost obsolete
They have great exhibits that are nicely spaced out to where you don’t feel like you’re elbow to elbow with the other visitors. I took my toddlers here in their double stroller and they enjoyed looking out the giant windows and at all of the 3D art forms. After we finished we were even able to have picnic lunch outside in their lawn area. It’s a great place for a family outing.
This is such a beautiful building, I just wish there would have been a bit more art to view when my wife and I visited. In full disclosure, it was a special free Sunday so we saved the $16 for two people (normally $16 per person except Sunday, when it is half price) so we cannot complain too much. I realize this is a museum of modern art, so minimal pieces on display probably comes with the territory, but I don’t see the need to go back here again anytime soon unless there’s a featured installation we can’t miss.
This place has wonderful exhibits all the time and the traveling exhibits are stunning. They have great kids programs and camps and they even have some days that are free. I have enjoyed bringing my kids since they were little. Youd be amazed at the things kids will notice and i think it is nice to teach them to be respectful of the art (and other people) early. My 6 year old just finished her summer camp and said Can I come back next year!?
My wife and I went to the Cafe Modern and were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful menu items. They also had 1/2 price wine at the bar before dinner. I ordered the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent as well as the view, sitting by the water. I would certainly recommend enjoying a fine meal or celebrating a special occasion. Enjoy.

2022-06-25I took the 85 year old mother, two 13 year olds and the five year old, to Women Painting Women. I gave this exhibit four stars. Here is why: We are a family of artist, with all members present having exhibited art at one point or another In our lives. But I felt strongly that this exhibit should have had a deeper explanation on the graphic nature of a few works of art.I was walking into one of the exhibit rooms, the five year old had already entered, and quickly assessed the art, realizing quickly I would not be able to explain this to her. I grabbed her hand and gently guided her into another room. She looked up at me and I simply said, when you are older, I will take you into that room and we can enjoy those paintings. But right now, let’s look at some other things.I normally love the exhibits, but this one posed a little bit of a family challenge for the little one.Thank you Modern Art Museum for all the contributions to give our community.

2022-01-27A beautiful museum. I’m not an art museum expert, but I enjoyed the beauty and serenity of this place. It is big, too. I kept thinking we were at the end of the building and then we would find another door/hall/turn to more. We spent a couple hours in it and did not see it all.

2022-06-15Some interesting stuff, some not so much. There is a literal block of stone as an exhibit. My favorite was the steel beams outside. They sound amazing, just slap the beams whilst in the middle of them!

2021-12-05My favorite museum in the area! Always fascinating and unique pieces of art. They do have certain days where tickets are cheaper, so I recommend ordering in advance to take advantage of those deals. Students also get discounts if they have their ID! I typically spend 1-2 hours here, though I spent longer my first visit. I’m no art aficionado, but I’m a big fan of this art museum and how they work hard to make it accessible to all through explanations of each art piece readily available. The sculptures and architecture are definitely highlights of this museum!

2022-05-30KAWS, Andy Warhol, and Takashi Murakami. You can find their work, alongside many more, at Modern Art Museum or Fort Worth. This museum is the best art museum I have been to in North America, and I’m not exaggerating. Their collection is unreal, it felt like a dream as I was going through their galleries.

2022-03-06It was a great experience; we were in Fort Worth for three days, and this was my favorite! I loved the experience overall; everything was clean and put together, and it seemed like they were getting ready for new exhibitions.

2022-03-06Museum designed by Ando Tadao. Good layout with some hidden passageways to keep exploring the space interesting.Even if you’re not a fan of modern art, it’s worth visiting for the building and the tranquility it offers. There is a restaurant attached to the museum, so go ahead and get some drinks afterwards.

2022-04-10Beautiful building by Tadao Ando, self taught Japenese architect. I spent time just enjoying the Zen like shapes and cleans lines of the beautiful concrete structure he designed, not to mention the wonderful art work displayed in this gorgeous facility.
