First time customer from Houston. Ordered some MTG product online and a wrong item was sent. It only took a two minute phone call and the issue was quickly resolved and they mailed out the missing item immediately afterwards. The employee and manager (didnt get their names) provided excellent customer service. This left a great first impression on me and Im positive I would experience this same excellent service in the store as well. I wish I lived closer because it would be a shop that I would visit regularly.
I havent had a chance to visit this store in person due to the pandemic, but have purchased several times from their online store. Each time Ive had an easy experience, shipping was fast, and the product pricing is reasonable. They are very responsive to emails, quickly too, and I appreciate the customer service.I look forward to making a trip out to Austin to visit the store once they reopen!
Ive been coming to the ship for over a year and its my home away from home the land center is amazing with the best prices for time on them example: 2 hours and a free normal drink or a small snack not marked with a orange sticker .the three bookshelves full to the brim with demo boardgames and stacked on top with some of my favorite games, the employees are not just amazing and good friends but to me family Jacob and tom are amazing Loren is truly the hard loving mom of the ship and has helped me grow as a person Lilly is extremely kind and Jenny is a baddass :3 dr.tom is one of the kindest people Ive ever met(theres 2 Toms)Matty ice is the biggest meme iv ever seen .the MTG group and boardgame groups are amazing very open and welcoming and just trust when I say mother ship is a big family of awesome people and theres always room for more people in the big nerd pile of people come on in and join in the fun -Wesley Eligah Erwin your friendly neighborhood giant
My husband and I went to this location hoping to find a fun board game to pass time while I was on maternity leave. The owner of the shop walked us through the store and explained a multitude of fun co-op games, got us signed up to rent and helped us find a phenomenal game! all in all it was a wonderful experience and this shop will continue to get my business.
Mothership is great! An excellent place to play MTG or just come in for some board gaming fun. There is a rental system if you want to try a game out at home over the weekend without paying full price. The owner is friendly and sets her prices competitively. They are also smart about what they keep in stock. If youre looking for a specific game make sure to ask someone to check the inventory because they may have it in the back. Support your local game store if youre in the area!
This is a wonderful little one-stop nerd-shop with a LAN cafe, great board game selection, support for Magic the Gathering and other popular TCGs. The staff are all great and very approachable and not at all rude or clique-y like some other shops. They also started a new board game night initiative to get more bang for your buck with prices comparable to online retailers which shows that Mothership is tuned in to their customer base and adapts accordingly. Highly recommend this place for casual and seasoned gamers.
This is my favorite store in all of Austin! Went this past weekend for a two headed giant event. The staff is incredibly helpful and so nice answering my questions about the logistics of the event even though they were really busy. The owner is a riot and ran the event very well. Their raffles were fun and varied, I even won a playmat! Everyone who was in the event seemed to be having a great time and I enjoyed playing with all these new people 😁
Recently discovered this place when trying to find a local card shop to get back into magic. The staff was really nice to us and very encouraging and accommodating of our questions and desire to get back into the community. I felt welcome, as if I had been coming here for ages and that is really important to me when trying to join the local community that a card and game shop creates. The ability to rent/buy board games, play PC games, and participate in card game events makes mothership a one stop shop for all your nerd needs. 100% recommend.
Bumping up from 4 to 5 stars. Supporting this local store is important, as they have been a great host for pre-releases onsite before covid-19. Now they are still serving the community with very reasonable prices on cool merch and MTG cards. I will do all I can to help this great store which has built a respectable community.
Definitely going to come back in the future! Loved the low prices, and general atmosphere personally. My Brother, his wife, and I all came in to play some Heroes of the Storm together just to have a fun time playing next to each other. The employee who checked us was Tom, and he was absolutely fantastic. Tom was incredibly friendly, great customer service, and overall just very helpful. We bought the 2 hour pack for 6 dollars and picked our spots. It turns out the computers my brother and I had didnt have Heroes of the Storm installed. We were kinda bummed we were gonna have to eat up time to install the game, but Tom came over helped us get the games installed because we couldnt install them due to low disk space. He ended up giving us all of the time we used to install the games and get setup back to us and a few minutes extra as well for the hassle. This to me was just awesome, because we even told him not to worry about it. Tom definitely went above and beyond to make sure our first experience was a memorable and enjoyable one. He came over a couple times to check on us and make sure we didnt have any more issues, and when he left he came to tell us another employee was taking over who was also named Tom and made sure we knew who to look for if we had any more issues! Again just a great environment and even better staff. We will definitely be coming back in the future to plan a day pass and just hang out there for a whole day of being super nerdy.
Mothership is a great neighborhood gaming and LAN store. The really care about their customers and make you feel like a friend. Anytime I have ever been here, a friendly conversation about whatever I happen to be looking at, starts rather easily. They are super knowledgeable and can special order items that you dont find in the shop.
Absolutely amazing shop! I came into town for the week to visit family and I will absolutely make sure to come back every single time I am in town. All the employees treat you like family and are extremely kind and considerate. They really make you feel welcome. Would recommend to everyone in the area without a doubt
A friend invited me to a 2 headed giant tournament. My first interaction with one of their employees was a woman behind the counter. She was extremely rude, short, impatient, and was not accommodating to new customers. I was brushed aside while she went on to the next customer. At that point, had I been there on my own accord I would have simply left and not gave them any business. Not to upset my friend, I paid my entry fee; this will be the only business this place will get from me.I also noticed this same employee completely disregard a customer asking to see an item behind the counter and literally put the item within a few inches of their face and then proceeded to brush that person aside. She was also short and rude with this person that asked simple questions about products. Apparently she was too busy with something else to sell any merchandise. There was another employee who was also the judge from the tournament however as they were too busy taking care of customers as the female employee had no care to assist anyone. My self and other players around me would call a judge but to no avail they would be to busy to judge the tournament. At the end the female employee made some comment about how busy and tired they were because of events of the weekend I particularly did not care for. Its a business there is no excuse for lack of staffing to justify treating customers this way.It just seems if you are not a regular customer in a Mothership Tee shirt then you are going to be treated 2nd rate.I suppose this place is in business simply because of location and lack of competition in the area. However there are other gaming stores in North Austin who treat their customers with respect, and I would rather pay higher retail costs and drive a little further to another store that has better customer service.
Its imperative that everyone know how great this place is. Lauren & crew helped me find everything I needed for 3-4 days straight. I needed a couple hundred cards and they found every one! I visited with a small list the first day and a gentleman helped me with everything and I was so impressed that they had the 20 obscure things I was looking for that I kept adding to my list and half a week later I was able to make 5 Legacy decks by shopping in ONE place. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GAME STORES!! Amazing places like Mothership and Pats exist because when you need singles, you let them help you! Thanks guys for making my life easier and thank you Lauren for going the extra miles scouring for everything I needed!!!!
Lauren (the owner) and the staff at Mothership have always made me feel welcome, which really shines a spotlight on how appropriate the name of the business is.... a home away from home. Want to nerd it up a bit with a trading card game at a LGS, or throw down on a new board game? They will have it. Want to get a couple of the guys and gals together for a little League of Legends on their LAN center? They have plenty of room. Prices are great for the LAN center, and the regular community of people there is pretty diverse and welcoming. Give the place a try!
Play magic here often. Staff is always helpful and friendly. During events other players are helpful and courteous, especially to new players, very welcoming. Will always recommend to play your events here.Only complaint i have is their pricing on booster boxes. But stores gotta stay afloat somehow.
This place was awesome. We came here because they had the best reviews around the area and we are not from Texas. Tom helped us and gave us an hour on the house for it being our first time in for the LAN Center so I could do some dailies in LoL and Arena. Super nice place and Tom was awesome. Super appreciate it guys! 💕😬
This is a somewhat claustrophobic store unless youre using the PC Gaming area, with intentionally dim lighting and a bathroom that was horrendous.Prices were reasonable with a decent selection of card and board games and service was acceptable. The crowd (~25) in the store during my Friday Night Magic experience was pleasant, minus the one PC gamer who would pound the table with his fist.Prize support was very top heavy for those who are curious, I was 4th in a ten player booster draft with three Swiss rounds and received a single pack for my 2-1 record.
Mothership is what I would describe as a video gaming center that realized they needed other revenue sources to make ends meet and crowded board games, figurines, card collecting accoutrement, card packs, and candy and beverages into the smallest area of their store not overrun by computers and chairs. The tables are too crowded together to really enjoy a game of Magic, especially when people are trying to pass by you in a 2 inch space between chairs. Not the place to go for a card game or picking up packs. Their specialty is the computer gaming crowd
They did not have the latest versions of Battlefield 4 and only two licenses for Battlefield 3. Notwithstanding, the young lady who works there with short hair was impeccable and unrelenting in her efforts to resolve technical issues. Their prices are affordable, the place is clean, welcoming and lots of friendly people.
The owner, Jacob is an intelligent guy with a laid back attitude and a willingness to help any person with their magic the gathering needs. This is by far the best shop Ive been to in the Austin area! Plus they have computers to game on, if you come early to a magic tourny, or whatever. Oh AND you get to play board games! The environment is so healthy for anyone (even if youre socially awkward like me!)
Awesome place! I had an amazing first experience with this place. They were swamped with hosting a tournament, but they still noticed that I had picked out a great hame from a local Austin game designer. However, this was actually just an expansion, that wasnt at all clarified by the box, and they made sure to ask me if I had the base game. They searched high and low for the base game for me to no avail, but didnt stop there. They called the game designer to see if they could get me a copy that day. Wow! All of this while managing just a herd of nerds during their tournament. Mothership seems to be what happens when awesome people get to do what they love
The staff are the absolute best. They are welcoming, very friendly and helpful. The prices are the best I have seen outside of the internet, especially for there booster packs. The place is very tidy and the bathrooms are always kept clean. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Came in just to scope the place out. one of the employees made sure i felt welcome, showed me around, and suggested some board games to try out on my next visit from their demo selection. i always appreciate try before you buy with an expansive demo section at places like this.
Commander player review: Go here to get into the center of fun and competitive commander in North Austin. Lauren is the nicest owner and theres almost always someone to go play commander with! Great for beginning players through experts. If you want to play commander, come on over to Mothership!
I keep visiting this place hoping Ill like it more but it keeps falling up short. Overall, its a nice place with prices comparable to every other game shop in town. I keep going for the Internet cafe aspect. Their computers are nice, run smoothly, and the prices are fair. They have a nice variety of in store snacks including sodas and energy drinks, so Ive always got my fuel when Im gaming.Only concerns:1. It is warm, especially if youre at the computers. Id be happy with fans, if they were facing the computers and not the card floppers.2. No free wi-fi. I like to watch some Netflix or Hulu when I game, and a good 4-5 hour gaming session kills my cellular data. For the price of what Im paying to use their Internet, wi-fi would be nice.3. This isnt really a complaint as it is an observation: some of the gamers can get LOUD. Even if theyre playing by themselves. Im all about getting into the game, but I go here for some r&r away from work and home and its hard to enjoy my gaming time when the dude on the other side of the room is screaming at his computer. Nobody else in the store seems to mind, but thats just me.
Ive only visited this place a handful of times but I wanted to say the owners here are awesome. They honestly have given back to the eSports community by participating in Barcrafts and Pubstomps -aka they dont just host stuff in their store and are out for a profit.I went here to buy a gift for a friend and couldnt find something in particular I wanted. Derrick ordered it from online so I didnt have to pay shipping and just asked that I come in and pay whenever it came in. I did that and ordered something more for myself because I really did appreciate it.I havent used their PCs or bought anything else because I live so far but I do know there are snacks and drinks also available for purchase.
Good spot, but went in to find something specific. When the item was deemed out of stock, the employee said he was going to go check. On his way back he got sidetracked and never let us know if he found the item or not. Completely unprofessional and a waste of time for all parties involved.

2022-02-25So happy that I found this place. Online ordering and pickup was super simple. My order was ready to pickup almost instantly. Was able to grab a booster box of Evolving skies for cheaper than what you would pay from Pokémon center..and this was on the day of the set release. Can you say wow! Especially with the demand for Pokémon cards that is super impressive. I noticed they update their inventory daily so if something is sold out check back in the next day. I’m glad I did. Pricing on all products here is so good it’s almost hard to believe. You just can’t beat it. All other shops need to take note on how to do it from Mothership and quit with the price gauging. I couldn’t be happier. You gained a life long customer today. Thanks mothership!Edit: It clearly states this business is curbside pickup only. No In store shopping. So for those who leave bad reviews because of this. Give the online store a chance. I’ve had nothing but great experiences here. Also, pulled the chase card scr out of the first pack of the mythic booster box! Couldn’t believe my eyes. Thanks again Mothership. Keep up the great vibes!

2022-06-13This was one of the better card shops I have been in, they were so nice. And they were also eager to help out if I had a questions, and they were genuinely nice people. Pickup was also super simple, walked in tell them your name and what you ordered and it’s as simple as that.

2022-06-02Its June of 2022. A business in Texas has every right to demand its customers mask up when entering their business. And I have every right to take that as an invitation to leave unmasked, rate them one star on Google for their absurdity and request that perhaps they more publicly advertise on their website that they are maintaining such absurdity so that I can make a more informed choice when visiting from another city.Fortunately there are other gaming store choices available within several minutes of this store where you can enjoy the same gaming products and environment sans nonsense.

2022-03-26I wanted to start playing Magic, and the guy at Dragon’s Lair was incredibly rude and just a pompous know it all. Made my way over to Mothership and had the absolute BEST experience. The lady that helped us was very knowledgeable and informative. I’m so excited to be returning to Mothership for my future gaming needs 🤩

2022-05-20ALWAYS kind, always helpful, and fantastic prices! One of, if not my go to store for Magic the Gathering. They also have decent trade-in value with store credit! They have plenty of commander decks and collectors boxes/boosters/other misc special releases/an online buy list and single cards.Ample playmats, card sleeves (love the art of the Dragon Shield they carry), deck boxes, and much more. They also have many boardgames, Pokemon cards, quite a few TCG games that are unfamiliar to me, nerdy Funkos, theres so much!Would always recommend going here if you are a fan of Trading Card Games and related things! The staff will always be happy to help and help give you great advice !

2022-04-21Best place for cards in Austin because they dont have ridiculous mark ups on prices like most shops do! Just wish the Yugioh selection was bigger and had singles. Otherwise the best shop in Austin!

2022-05-02Walked in to pick up some new boardgames and in the 30 minutes I was there got zero help and very short answers while at the register checking out. All of the new staff seem to busy to help people even in an empty store. This place used to be home away from home but not anymore.

2022-05-30Bring back in-store shopping, and Ill change this to 5 stars. This was my old stomping grounds, and am saddened by the fact that I cannot go in and browse the shiny foils like the squirrel I am. This used to be my favorite place to go and nerd out.Bring back in-store shopping, and Ill change this to 5 stars, and then will continue to unreasonably spend copious amounts of money at your place of business.Edit- they have reopened their doors for in store shopping again. 5 STARS!! Love this shop again!!

2021-11-10Today was my first day going to to the store, and I didnt know it was only pick ups. But I simply called, and asked how there pick up system works. They explained everything to me nicely, and Informatively. Went to there website to place my order, which was very easy , and amazingly good. Chose the free pick up option, and pulled up in front of the store to get it. So even though there in store was closed, it was a very good experience, the employee who helped me was so nice and I appreciated them, and the pick up system was very easy. I think I just found my new favorite card store :) Thank yall !

2022-04-12Awesome store for Magic cards and boardgames, great friendly staff that we could easily spend hours talking Magic with. Will visit again when in Austin!
