So far my favorite attraction in Texas! I went there last week and had such a blast walking around and seeing all the oddities and curiosities and mythology and stuff straight out of sci-fi & horror films! For the price you get to spend as much time as you like walking through the museum and taking photos and even watching a few videos along the way. There’s so much information packed into this small location and so many unique walkways and entryways throughout, it’s truly such a unique and fun experience and I highly recommend anyone who’s down on 6th St. Looking for something fun and cheap to do with friends (that doesn’t involve drinking haha) to check this place out.
A good place for weird collections. indeed. They have the display of rare stuff like the statue of elephant man, half man, woman with no arms, almost all the characters from the movie the freaks. It was interesting to see them all along with some other characters like Frankenstein and big foot. We spent about an hour in the museum and it was worth it.Even though the public parking has wheelchair accessibility and their entrance is accessible as well, the museum is not accessible. You need to climb stairs to see some displays and also the walking space in most of the area is pretty narrow.
There was tons of interesting things and lots of props from horror movies I am a horror fan so to see a critter and Germlin in there was awesome. I loved the mini outdoor area that connect you from one part of the building to the next the whole area looked like out of a movie filmed in Romania. Not to mention the ice man over all I really enjoyed the museum
They have some neat things inside that you likely will not see somewhere else. It is definitely worth the $12 entry fee if you are looking for something different. They have some oddities from all over the the world and the wax figurines are cool to check out. My favorite of course was the Xenomorph at the end of the tour! That alone made the whole thing worthwhile, but I am a fan of the movie so mileage may vary.
This place is a cool stop by if youre in the neighborhood. As a fan of the strange and dark, I naturally gravitate towards these kinds of museums. Lots of props from older movies and replicas of unusual creatures and events. Nothing amazing by any means but a cool way to spend an hour
Surprisingly small, probably took about 20 minutes to see the entire place. Mainly just artifacts of Bigfoot, Sideshow Attractions, and local myths. Had a fun wax museum with a great photo op. Would highly recommend for kids between 6-13 but not as entertaining for adults. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Not disappointed, however was not sure that it was worth the price of admission.
Museum of the MEHjust various dolls from Hollywood movies and other fake plastic stuff.I had some hopes for something really weird, interesting or even different in here but was disappointed.Im giving it two stars because the front desk and staff there were super friendly and nice, otherwise Id give it one star.
Really fun museum. Ive always loved things like Unsolved Mysteries and Ripleys Believe it Or Not, so this museum was right up my alley. The amount of info tucked away in this small museum is incredible. The staff were also very friendly. One suggestion is to head there earlier in the day, when we first got there we were the only ones and then a few minutes in (around 12pm) the place became packed and hard to move around.
It is in a rough area of the city in the daytime. There were a few 2 hour parking spots in front of the museum. We didnt know that until we spoke to the doorman. We parked around the corner and it wasnt great walking to the museum. All of that is not their fault. The doorman was very friendly. We first walked into a gift shop. Then there was an issue where they had to reboot their computer system. They let us go through the tour. They can not accept cash at this time. Also, no one without a mask gets in the door. There were oddities first on the tour. Mummy stuff. A description of the haunted hotel in Austin, TX. There is a Gremlin and it has the wires to show how it was controlled. Then we went outside where we walked into an ice creature exhibit. That was something very interesting. Then upstairs to taxidermy exhibits and a video on one of PT Barnums performers. Very interesting. We then walked up the stairs to the wax museum. I opened the door to find Nosferatu staring down at me. I shut the door. I cracked it open and looked again. It took me a moment to walk through. I had to make sure he wasnt going to move. I could not believe he wasnt real. The swamp thing was great. The Boris Karloff Mummy was so detailed. It looked like it came out of the movie. I am a Bela Lugosi fan. I didnt think the wax figure really captured his face. I wasnt blown away like with the Nosferatu figure. Frankensteins Monster was realistic and looked like Boris Karloffs version. I got another look at Nosferatu before I left. The hands and the nails were so realistic. The placement of him when the person opens the door looking down is perfection. My heart raced and I closed the door. On the way out there is an Alien figure that was very realistic as well. They had the computer system rebooted and I was am to pay on the way out.
What can be said?! A really neat place that blurs the lines of fiction and reality. There are many cool exhibits. It can be a little creepy for young kids, but still a lot of fun for families. Im disappointed in the amount of frost and build up on the ice man exhibit, but that wouldnt stop me from going again.
Looking for something to take up the time while in Austin. Try the museum of the weird. Nice for families and friends. You will see various items real and up close. From shrunken heads to the ice man, you will enjoy the weird that captivates you. Due to Covid19, you need to make reservations ahead of time. Easy to find from street but limited parking available. ENJOY!
THIS PLACE WAS AWESOME!!! A co-worker and myself found ourselves in Austin for the night. We grabbed dinner and wanted to do something fun and different. We heard about this place and had our doubts. Those were quickly banished away.We had a freaking blast. The staff was super nice and our guide was very funny. His jokes were what really made the tour. Also the magic show at the end was super fun. They also have a very cool exhibit that I will not spoil so that will be the teaser to get you in there. Super fun and lots of trinkets to buy afterwards.
They let WAY too many people in at once today. They told us to wait until the person in front of us rounded the corner, but before they had, we were instructed to go inside. We were stuck and couldn’t move. A gentleman left half way through because he was panicking. I also didn’t get to see the entire museum because I started having a panic episode from the claustrophobia. They tried to pack us in to the wax museum so tight that I was too close to the door for him to even shut it. We did not go through all the exhibits, spent all of the time standing because there were too many people in front and behind, and couldn’t enjoy it because we were literally trapped. The way it was run today was a complete fire hazard and has to be violating some type of policy for maximum occupancy.
First of all it is not a museum! it is mostly a joke shop + a kind of exhibition of some objects/statues (from movies, legends) in the form of horror tunnel. plus, it is not that rich in terms of contents. weird is a big word and nothing in that location comes to fulfill the meaning of it.
It was my first time to stopped by Austin for the museum. I definitely enjoyed my visit since it was very fascinating experience to see an unique place. It’s highly recommended and bring your friend/family if you want to stop by in Austin during your free time! The admission is very reasonable. So worth of your time!!!
This place was super cool. Its small but has lots to keep your mind busy. Make sure you stay till the end and watch the side show. And take some cash as the performers are payed by tips and are so worth it. My kids age 10 and 14 loved it. I was not disappointed whatsoever. We will return again.
Kind staff and an interesting quaint museum for the price. Cheesy in all the right ways and had some stuff I didn’t know about. A bit small but if you read every exhibit then you could be there quiet a while. Definitely worth the money and the gift shop actually had some unique items.
Fun quirky spot to view the weird and wacky on 6th Street in downtown Austin. We had fun visiting the museum, and then going on a tour guide, experiencing a side show, and then viewing the caveman in ice. Historical and comical. I think that sums it up. Not too bad for the price. The staff were nice and very into the theme which was awesome. Parking is on the street. Plan for about 45 minutes to an hour. The gift shop also has some cool finds.
The Museum was one of my favorite visits in Austin. If you have never been to a dime museum then this is definitely something you want to experience. The entrance is first a gift shop with products that are hilarious and some that can be considered a little creepy. The best part is definitely the tour which is $12. You learn a lot about the history and the weird things that they have. The show they have changes so its always worth a visit because they are great. Its definetly a must if you are a tourist.
Really small museum, it was like a store with wax statues displayed. Those wax figures was realistic, nice, and you also can read some thrilling stories about it. But other than that, the show was circuit-like, so dont expect too much about this. There was no haunted doll though
Keeping Austin Weird! This place was so interesting and WEIRD (In the best way possible) I visited on a quiet Tuesday and was 1 of 3 people on tour. I was able to really take time and admire the display pieces. Every time I turned around something grabbed my attention. Everything from Hollywood Movie Memorabilia to 3,000 Year Old Mummy. A curious collection of oddities and a secret famous artifact featured on Unsolved Mysteries...(Cant tell you...) Wax Museum you need a secret code to enter (Cant tell you Secret Code) . Sideshow Performance with 6 rotating acts throughout the week. Fun, Different, Interesting and Spooky. My kinda good time! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Pretty cool and fun place to kill 45 mins or so. Believe what YOU want and leave the rest, mean that in a fun positive way. A lot to see. The store front has a lot of cool and funny stuff for sale. I recommend at least stopping in the store. The tour is only $12, worth it.
What can I say about this place other then its weird. If you are hanging on 6th st, you should definitely check this place out. Its $12 to get in but I guess thats a small price to pay to keep this cool place going. Not a ton of stuff to see, but enough to creep you out a bit.
The place is fine but I dont think is worth a 12 usd entrance. The guy, wizard who gives the tour is charismatic, he tried to involve the people and deserve tips. The place doesnt have a bathroom. What kind if pkace offers a 45 min tour without offer a bathroom to the customers abd after paying 12 dollars per person?. That is crazy. The things that you see in the exhibition are nice, especially the ones from famous horror movies and posters of Vincent Price.
I’ve been here twice before and I like because the first time I went there I saw interesting things but, the second time I found even more stuff. I might just be blind but since I found more that I hadn’t known about when I went a second time, I think this place is very cool and I would recommend it.
Looking to do something fun and screen free with your kids on a hot summer day? This is it. Yes, its touristy, yes its cheesy, yes, youll enjoy it. Took 16/15 year olds during the week and glad we avoided the weekend. Its a pretty cramped space so we were able to take our time meandering through the halls. Free parking right in front of the museum was a bonus (obviously, wouldnt be possible on a weekend) Bonus, their gift shop has some of the best Austin T shirts Ive seen.
If you are a fan of the styles of Captain Spaulding, Rob Zombie, House of 1000 corpses, retro horror films, Bela Lugosi, Johnny Depp, Gibby Haynes, Slash, George A. Ramero, creature movie FX, unsolved mysteries, weird oddities, and fun novelties then you will enjoy this place as much as I did. The mini museum tour is reasonably priced if youre not on a tight budget; for me it was worth every penny. I felt like Chris Hardwick on the Captain Spaulding tour! And cool enough, the performer and guide I got to see at the end was named Captain Eric Burton. He was very entertaining and made the best ending of the tour.
Absolutely amazing! Staff was nice, and make the experience fun and interactive. For parents whom have kids under the age of 5, I do not recommend. This is not for the faint of heart, as I yelped twice during the mini tour. For parents traveling to experience the weirdest things in Austin, THIS is the place to be. Make sure to bring money as the gift shop is as cool as the museum itself. But overall, I would definitely consider this a family friendly place, considering they could handle my party of 6. With an excellent experience, I would definitely recommend this tourist destination.
If you ever read those Ripleys believe it or not books, and/or gone through a cryptozoology and a horror movie phase, youve seen most of the stuff in this museum, which is mostly wax replicas of various monsters and freakish artifacts, skulls, and cryptids. Overall I cant say its worth it but its a fine way to blow 30 minutes.
The museum was interesting and has oddities worth checking out. Be sure to take your time in the first exhibit area. The workers are incredible and have loads of information and facts and are fantastic performers. Parts are a little dated but this is Austin and it fits the vibe well. Our daughters were a bit creeped out at first but Josh put them at ease and let them know nothing was going to scare them and they rocked it. Dan had a great little performance and was very personable.
Nothing super weird about it, but enjoyable nonetheless. I took my 9 year old daughter and she said the best part was the special show at the end. I agreed. It is a small museum in the back of a gift shop and I personally think the admission is too high for what you get. This is best for kids and those who dont generally know about weird and unusual things or oddities (like me).
Lots of cool (weird) stuff all over this building. Tours take about 30 minutes and you get to see a lot oddities, there is a side show at the end that is pretty cool. Everyone is very polite and the pricing isn’t to crazy. $12 a ticket per adults, $8 for kids, plus a bunch of souvenirs.
I love this shop! I love the cute, unique things you can get here thats not part of the norm. We went through their museum, & although its on the smaller side, it was entertaining. Wherever we go to Austin, I like checking this shop out because I like what they sell. Also, SUPER friendly & chill staff everytime we go. :)
There are a couple of things that are cool to see in this meuseum..the best part is the live show of the man who feels no pain. I am not sure if he is there all the time but he was there when we went on a Saturday night The gift shop also has some cool items. Interesting fact way back Johnny Depp lived in part of the meuseum when filming Whats Eating Gilbert Grape according to the tour guide.
Note: We did not enter the museum, only the store out front. This place was really cool. It had lots of fun little buys, including weird tshirts, mugs, and dashboard figurines. I found my new oven mitt and almost bought a mug to go with it 😂 Solid place to get an interesting trinket!
Ok.... so it’s weird but what were you expecting? The guide was very friendly and although the place is quite small we were led around to different rooms and talked through what they had on display. One part I wasn’t expecting was the sideshow act (I probably just missed the sign) and while that isn’t really my cup of tea you couldn’t fault his enthusiasm or his performance. So if that’s up your street this would be an excellent place to visit.
Very cool if youre into side show stuff and old horror movie vibes. Lots of taxidermy animals with multiple heads, old artifacts, and ghost stories from around Austin. You can knock it out in about an hour easily, and theres tons of cool restaurants and bars in the area for other stuff to do. Bring cash, the short performance at the end is paid by tips and the staff is very enthusiastic and fun to follow.
This little musuem is a fun little attraction to visit on a lazy Sunday on 6th Street. They have some interesting cult favorite artifacts as well as Ice Man. The show the staff put on for you is really cool as well. It is a small place but an interesting place to visit at least once.
Strangest place Ive ever been to. When they say Keep Austin Weird this is the true pinnacle of what they meant. There is really no place like it, and there is no way for me to describe how this place made me feel because there are so many factors to consider. My favorite part of the whole experience is the amazing tour guide. In our tour he tried to gain a spiritual connection with us which at first made me think it was complete bs. But then he proceeded to guess a number of things that couldnt have possibly known. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Austin. My only complaint has nothing to do with the tour, but rather the location. There are quite a few crazy homeless people in the area, please be careful and just dont make eye contact. Hope you have an awesome trip like we did.
For my 10 year old, this was the highlight of our trip to TX. He still talks about it two months later. Very kid friendly and I loved that they had everyone in masks (Jun 2021). Dont rush through, take the time to read all the cards about the exhibits, there are some really cool/interesting/crazy things there. Definitely a good stop if there are people in your group into the paranormal.
If you aren’t trippin about 12 dollars and are in a fun mood, looking for a couple laughs and interesting displays, check this place out! The only attraction I’ve seen like this was “The Thing” off of I-10 in middle of nowhere NM (or was it AZ?).Perhaps the Museum’s greatest accomplishment is as a tribute to “Freak Shows” past.If you often feel guilt at seeing twelve dollars leaver your wallet, I’d skip. Unless you are a diehard weird stuff/horror/sci-fi person, you can die fulfilled without this experience.
For the price it was great. A good place to spend a couple of hours. Me and my two sons real enjoyed the Scifi and Horror displays. Its not a Smithsonian Museum. I didnt expect it to be mind blowing and life changing. Someone put a lot of time and care into setting it up and collecting the unique items displayed. Well worth my time and money.
Neat little place to visit on sixth street. Think Ripleys Believe it or Not (if youre old enough to remember this). Im sure its a bit more fun after a few drinks in the adjacent bars but still fun enough to do it as part of a day trip. They have lots of curious items and a nicely sorted gift shop. Thank you!
Pretty neat little place with some weird stuff. True to its name and was a fun little side trip to kill some time. Slightly pricey for admission considering how quick it is to walk through the exhibits, although, the brevity of the experience depends on how much you stop to read the plaques, which there are quite a few of. Lots of interesting things to see, including a tiny little wax museum which was pretty cool. Couple sketchy parts of the building as far as construction and stability, and it looks like its not up to code in certain parts. Not to say I felt unsafe necessarily, but there was a couple of questionable spots (hole in ceiling with water leaking onto one of the exhibits, for example).Overall, if youre bored and have 12 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, check it out.
Kind of expensive, hokey, small, same racket and exhibits as a Ripleys, but- you get a side show! And its kind of an Austin tourist tradition which makes it a notable stop along 6th St. If you enjoy a roadside attraction then this is a great stop. Small wax exhibit room, notable that Johnny Depp once lived in the space, a collection of mummies, various taxidermy oddities etc. Not an ADA tour due to narrow walkways, uneven floors, stairs. Fun gift shop.
The museum itself is pretty cool a bit tiny but for the price of tickets thats fine. I would give it a 5 star review if we didnt have such a rude encounter with the employee in the wax statue section. Welcomed us into the tiny hallway and then pointed at one of the exit doors, me having poor eyesight and a tiny dark room thought he was pointing at that door to enter. That was my bad but that doesnt excuse him yelling at me repeatedly. Do not treat me as a child, simply telling me that thats the exit and to close the door but no. Couldnt understand his instructions and he pulled up his shirt to scratch his stomach in front of us. He seemed really unhappy to be there and seemed extremely annoyed with us. Just plain rude and made us extremely uncomfortable. If you go here avoid the upstairs wax room.
Intriguing. Side show was fun, performer was entertaining, humorous, and personable. And he has an adorable pup. Ask lots of questions about the Iceman. Theres something about the wax museum as well, youll have to see if you can figure it out. Oh right, and the place is haunted.
As their name suggests, this museum has a lot of weird exhibits. Located on the East 6th St, it was easy to find parking. I in fact parked right outside it (2 hour free parking).Their exhibits show a variety of weird things from skulls to mummys to two-head chicken etc. Budget around 30-45 mins for the entire tour. Don’t forget to check out their gift shop, I bet you will definitely like something to take back home.
Museum of the weird wasn’t a bad experience but it wasn’t the best experience either. The guy that we bought our tickets from in the gift shop was super nice and welcoming but the surrounding area and the location of the museum was sketchy and dirty. The museum itself was interesting I feel like it was not worth $12 but to each their own. I don’t think I would recommend it to a friend, might be something to do if you just happen to find yourself downtown.Took us less than 30 minutes to get through and were a lot of “fake” historic items. Would not visit again, and I don’t recommend bringing kids in that area.
Clearly geared for the partying crowds on 6th street that stumble in out of curiosity. Still, this place is both entertaining and pretty much exactly what youd expect. Although I do wish more of the exhibits were real things, not just taxidermy animals sewn together to make something weird. Its all in good fun and the gift shop has a small variety of oddities and standard souvenirs.
Boasting to be one of the last dime carnival attractions left, it housed a couple well know oddities, and a lot of wax figures of horror icons from the 1920s. Audrey 2 greets you at the door, and a tour guide with a lot of passion shows you around. Of oddities is your jam and you are in Austin go!
Loved this! Super fun, interesting, and great photo op. We went during the week when it wasn’t so busy, so we had a great time and got awesome photos. It’s a little small though so it might be cramped on busy days like weekends. Overall super amazing experience and would 100% recommend as a go see if you’re visiting or in the area.
I felt like this place could have probably been very cool but it is not wheelchair accessible and no public restrooms. But......The staff were really nice and we were able to view the first floor. It was pretty weird 🙂👽🤖☠ I would like to go again by myself and see the whole attraction.
Definitely keeping Austin weird! Nothing amazing, its no Ripley believe it or not, but something different and strange to do in Austin. Also a great place to buy a weird souvenir, and all the employees has some unique qualities as well! When in Rome, or I mean, when in Austin...
Really liked that it was nestled right in the middle of the craziness of 6th street. Enjoyed the gift shop and the three stories of exhibits. I didnt want to give it all 5 stars because people were rude while going through exhibits, but I realized that wasnt the businesses fault. Staff were all very personable people.
This place was cool. I LOVED the wax museum of Universal studio old school monsters, the side show freaks was interesting but not what made it for me. We picked up some tshirts, the posters were tempting memorabilia. If my foot wasnt hurt I would have loved to walk up and down the street looking at the different places to drink and shop some. As it was we stopped in and then went on to some other spots in town and I was happy about having stopped there.
I have to say I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when visiting this museum. I saw it from a tour I took and was immediately interested. I’m glad I went. Some really cool exhibits. It’s a fun experience. Who knows what’s real and what’s not, but it’s a fun activity.
The owner publicly posted that The President of The United States is the antichrist in response to a negative review. Its called the United States, not the divided states, not the obnoxious states and not the delusional name calling states. Do not reward bad behavior by giving this person your hard earned money. Read all the honest negative reviews about this place no matter what side of the political aisle you freely choose to sit on and avoid at all cost.

2022-03-05Read about this museum on a blog post about the best things to do in Austin. Came here, and was excited about what they would have. My recommendation is to save your $12 and spend it elsewhere. A bunch of random pieces of old Hollywood memorabilia. The video for the Minnesota Ice Man exhibit wasn’t working. The wax exhibit was super small. Not handicap accessible as the tour involves taking several steep and uneven stairs. All of this being said, if you are into Bigfoot and stuff like that, you may enjoy this place. Nothing interested me enough to read about it. Kids might enjoy this.

2022-03-04Our first visit here recently was great! You tour through the museum on your own. We definitely seen some weirdness lol!!!! But our experience was great! We also bought a few things from the little store part right when you first walk in. We also received great customer service.

2021-12-07I took my son and didnt really know what to expect. I think I had more fun than him. It took approximately 30-45 minutes to complete the tour. I stopped and read some interesting facts, but not all otherwise it may have taken longer. Not bad for $12.

2022-06-21If your really into weird stuff this place is for you to check out. So many weird oddities to read about especially Big Foot. Its $12 bucks for entrance fee. If you not into this, I wouldnt recommend purchasing the ticket but if you are then this would be interesting for you. The building is really decorative inside with this sort of stuff. They have a gift shop available also. Not much parking available near the area but nor is this place proper for people that are handicap (several stairs and no ramp). 2022-02-03It was ok, paid $12 per adult. There are some interesting things to see or read about such as Johnny Depp staying in the building while filming. Is it worth the $12 Ill let you decide. I came to visit after seeing the store on the Discovery Plus show Texas Cake House

2022-06-25Let us consider that most of these types of places are so full of junk that they can barely earn two stars. This curio was - I must say - quite better off than most places. Making it good. Not amazing. Not a ripoff. But good. Worth the $12.00 ticket, I would say. Plus, I bought a reasonably priced Coke ($1.35), which, having just been jacked up at the airport to the tune of $3.39 for a bottle of water, made this seem like a deal. The photo of the plant from Little Shop of Horrors was hard to get because of the window reflection, but here it is.

2022-03-29It’s a small little hidden gem on 6th street. It’s a small museum with some neat weird artifacts. The space is small halls are very limited. The guy is the wax statue are was kinda rude and not kid friendly. Definitely for older kids.
