Let me tell you about my man Mitch. Mitch is probably the most knowledgeable person Ive ever met when it comes to guitar maintenance. And hell explain any questions you have happily (though you may have to ask him to explain it again in less technical terms haha).I brought him my Les Paul to fix the neck pickup, install a bone nut, and do a set up on. He made that guitar play like a dream, better then Ive ever felt it play before. 100% worth the money.Mitch was also very transparent about costs and always kept me updated when things could be expected to be finished and when he needed more time to get work done. All in all best experience with a guitar tech yet, and I will absolutely go back to him when I want new active pickups installed soon. Highly reccomended.
I am extremely pleased with the install of the Evertune Bridge on my Gibson SG. Mitch pays close attention to detail, and executed this complicated job with precision, completed in a timely manner, and the cost was amazingly affordable in comparison to the competition. He is friendly and cares about doing great work.I highly recommend Mythic Guitar Company for any basic or complex guitar repairs or modifications.
I didnt have any major work that needed to be done. I just wanted the finish stripped from the neck of my guitar because I liked the feel of bare wood more than a glossy finish, which causes my hand to stick. Mitch was quick to respond when I emailed him and got the work done much faster than he quoted, and threw in some whammy bar work at the end when I came to pick it up as well. Totally would recommend.
I had totally given up on this BC rich from my youth but thought I’d let a professional help put it together before I totally admitted defeat. It was poorly sanded, half painted and in pieces. Mitch totally surpassed my expectations and brought it back to life. The paint came out perfectly and it plays better great.
Mitch was great! I had a fairly uncommon repair/request and he was able to turn around the work promptly and professionally. He’s really reliable and gave me a great price. Mythic Guitar Company is highly recommended! Mitch’s technical expertise and communication are on-point and I’ll continue to use his services for my guitar repair needs. Check him out!
Mitch is the best. Had to totally rewrite my strat and set it up. Outstanding service, kept me in the loop throughout the process to make sure he was getting every detail right. Also, he’s the guy all the other pros in the area send guitars to when the job is too difficult.
I dropped off my guitar on a Tuesday and picked it up 2 days later despite eyeing the sign that says 2 to 6 week turnaround. The owner was very knowledgeable and even opened up his blues repertoire demoing on my guitar which is blasphemy because only Metal needs to be played on it. The whole experience was great and all my guitars will go there for maintenance and repairs. I highly recommend.
Mitch was very accommodating in his schedule. He was fair in pricing. He provided a timely service. I do not play guitar, but I am confident that he assessed our requirements and delivered a renovated instrument for my sons Christmas gift. He adjusted the instrument for a beginner. He provides a socially distanced drop-off and delivery. I highly recommend.
Mitch at Mythic Guitars did an amazing job turning my decent guitar into a perfect guitar. He upgraded the tuners and made a custom bone nut for my electric. I couldn’t afford a high end guitar like I used to have, so I had purchased one that was fine, but it didn’t have the feel and playability that I was looking for. Mitch made some recommendations to improve it, and it turned out amazing. He listened to me, and came up with the best solution to get me where I wanted to be. Excellent craftsmanship at a reasonable price. If you need an amazing luthier in Austin, look no further. Mythic Mitch is a true professional.
I had recently purchased an online model of a MIM Fender PJ bass that I fell in love with at GC (Musicians Friend was having a sale). When my bass arrived in the mail, it didnt feel or sound as good as the one I played at the store, so I started searching for someone who could give it a proper set up, fret leveling, and pickup replacement (the stock pickups were good but Im just picky with my tones).I saw some great reviews for Mythic Guitar Company here on google so I decided to give them a try. Upon contacting the Mitch, he was immediately friendly, responsive, and accommodating in terms of answering my questions. Once we confirmed exactly what I wanted done I scheduled a drop off time a couple days later and left the rest up to fate (and Mitch).Knowing he was backlogged in terms of work, I expected about a 2-3 week turn around. After 12 days Mitch reached out and told me the bass was done and ready for pickup. When I brought the bass home and plugged it in, its like I was playing a totally different bass than before. The once unruly frets poking out on the neck were smooth and allowed me to freely slide up and down from 1 to 22. The soldering and wiring on the new electronics were pristine and very well organized, not like the birds nest that was in place beforehand. Finally, the set up was perfectly balanced and exposed the basss full voice, to be heard clearly from the nut to the edge of the last fret.I will definitely be taking future guitar and bass jobs to this guy. If youre looking locally in Austin for someone who is friendly, skillful, and knowledgable, you wont regret going to Mythic.
Deciding to purchase my guitar from Mitch was one of the best calls Ive ever made. I love this guitar. Mitch paid a lot of attention to the little details that can make a difference, and it really shows in the playability and feel. Theres nothing like the inspiration you can get from playing a fine instrument. Communicating with him is super easy, and he is very willing to accommodate any ideas you might have concerning your guitar. He steered me right when I had some questions. Really cant recommend Mitch and Mythic Guitars highly enough.
Mitch is a true craftsman and is passionate about what he does and that’s easy to figure out from the moment you meet him. I chipped my number one guitar and was hoping to get her back to as close to new as I could. Mitch listened and put a lot of work and care to make my Suhr just like the day I purchased it. This kind of quality takes time and Mitch is in high demand. But be patient, you will only love the finished product.
I bought a new guitar on line and when it arrived it was damaged and used. I went to the retail store and told me that they couldnt do anything because it was a third party vendor. In other words, it was a mess. So I decided to find someone who could fix it because its my sons first guitar and he was so upset that I had to return it. Well, I found Mythic Guitar Co. that same morning. I called and thats when I met Mitch over the phone. We met within minutes. He saw what the problem was and fixed it (with in hours). My son was so excited that he got his guitar. I just want to say if you need someone to fix or buy a new custom guitar, Mitch is the man. His prices are excellent and hes such a professional and friendly individual. Thanks Mitch! S.C.
One of the best music related experiences Ive had. Mitch was professional: he didnt call me at work, texted to make sure I was available and then was upfront about the cost of the work that needed to be done. He did a beautiful job restoring my 5 string bass with brand new strings, setup, fret polish the works, plus some top notch rewiring. All for an affordable cost!
Quality work and excellent turnaround time. Mitch installed a pickup system into my Martin. Despite receiving a defective pre amp from Fishman, he was still able to get it done - flawlessly - and back to me in time for my weekend gigs. I cant recommend him highly enough. Im a customer for life.
I wanted my Steinberger repainted in the Frankenstrat paint scheme. After some research, I got in touch with Mitch at Mythic Guitar Co. I told him what I was looking for. He gave me a time frame and a price, and kept me in the loop at every stage. I appreciate his time and patience, but most of all the professionalism. Thanks to Mitch, I now have one of the 2 baddest guitars on the planet. I’ve already dropped off another guitar for him to work his magic.
ReviewI’ve only wrote a couple reviews in my entire life but I felt compelled to write one this time.First let me say it’s really hard to find a non corporate place these days where you actually get friendly and HONEST service from REAL people.Mitch is cool because he is humble, nice, and not full of s***I bought a guitar with evertune that was not set up properly and found mythic guitars online. It turns out he was right in my neighborhood. When I gave him a call he stayed on the phone with me for almost half an hour to discuss the situation and pretty much gave me a free education. I could tell right away that I found not only an expert on guitars but an authentic down to earth person. This is not only rare for a business but rare in general these days.He kept me up to date every step of the way. Took pictures, videos, called me, texted me and kept me in the loop through the entire process. He was always quick to respond and actually made me laugh quite a bit too. As much as I feel I found my permanent go-to guitar guy I also feel like I made a friend as well.I HIGHLY recommend Mitch at Mythic Guitars. If you are looking for honest, friendly, down to earth, expert guitar service then look no further. This place is a diamond in the rough here in Austin. Trust me.Thank you Mitch!!! ^_^
I took my Epi SG in to have the nut rebuilt and flattened and to have the bridge leveled to convert it to a slide guitar and set the guitar up. First I had to explain how the bridge is built and how it needed attention, and he also didnt ask which tuning I use. That should have thrown a flag up that I listened to. I got it back with the pick-ups not adjusted to height (or even close), and the bridge never had attention to flatten it out. The nut was however properly built and installed. I brought these points up in a text to the owner and he said, Understood, sorry for the inconvenience . Im not sure that electric guitars are his specialty. Definitely not for Gibson or Epiphone products.
I was looking for a luthier more north than downtown Austin. Mitch took two of my guitars and completed the work in a timely manner. He kept me updated with pictures and did some installs to keep my top guitar in tip top shape. He put hours of labor into both of my axes. Labor was reasonably priced but first quote was a bit on the fly and needed adjusting. All in all a good experience with Mitch and I’ll probably take any future work to him.Josh TSinger/Songwriter
From Zach McClinton on Facebook- Mitch is a Godsend for any musician needing quality craftsmanship! His communication, attention to detail, friendliness, and humbleness is genuine! I recently brought him a new acoustic for a last minute set up (christmas gift), and he went above and beyond to accommodate my situation. I have been playing professionally for 20 years and upon Mitch completing this project I can honestly say that I was left wanting nothing. The action, intonation, frets, etc are now impeccable! His timing was spot on, and his price was more than fair! He now has another customer for life! Thank you for what you do Mitch
I felt extremely fortunate to have found this shop in Austin today. The owner, Mitch was not only very welcoming and polite but also turned out to be an outstandingly knowledgeable and competent luthier. He performed a string change on my classical in seconds while continuing with our conversation.I learned a bit more about his background and was super impressed. Thanks for an extraordinary experience!
Mitch was awesome I was essentially looking in my area for guitar shops and Came Upon Mythic Guitar Company upon meeting Mitch I told him my situation pertaining to machine heads he gave me a brand new machine head no cost when I realized I had no cash on me and in doing so will be the only person I go to for guitar work and guitar advise in general from now on. Mitch is a good guy and a very good reference for any question you have pertaining to guitars.
Had an emergency with a new pickup, some wiring and a bad volume pot that I needed taken care of for my SG the day before a recording session. I reached out to Mitch on a Saturday morning. By 6pm that evening, I had the guitar back in my hands for a very reasonable price. He even gave me some suggestions for future adjustments to get the guitar playing better. I will be going back for more work on other guitars soon. I was pleased to get good, fast work done on the north side of town.
Mitch did an excellent job setting up my stratocaster - on top of that he setup locking tuners which are an awesome upgrade. He is very accommodating and friendly as well.UPDATE:I have been continuing to go to Mitch for a number of jobs since my initial review: he changed out the pickups and leveled / dressed the frets on my esp, changed out the nut and bridge on my taylor, and did a setup on my Ibanez. His knowledge and expertise have been invaluable in helping me to get the most out of my guitars, and the work on all of them have been truly top notch. If you are in need of a great luthier for pretty much any guitar job you can think of, then look no farther!
I brought in a damaged Martin d28. He proclaimed being one of the best to help redo the finish. The rosewood back was scratched up very badly prior to taking it to him. Instead of doing what he said, he just buffed it. So instead of fixing it, he removed the previous marks and left new ones. Very angry.
So I got my first evertune guitar and needed a full set-up to get going. Checked the evertune website and was referred to Mythic Guitars. I called Mitch and he took time out of his Saturday to complete my set-up, but not only did he set-up my guitar he took the time to explain the entire evertune system to me. If you need any work done on any guitar please dont take it to Guitar Center but call Mitch at Mythic Guitar Company he will do the work right.
Mitch did a wonderful job completely refinishing the back of my Martin 000-42 which had a large area where the original finish had peeled off along with some belt buckle scratches and some other blemishes. No one else in Austin wanted to mess with it. Now my Martin looks brand new again. Mitch is enthusiastic about what he does and really enjoys what he does. I am happy I found him.
Mitch is an all around guitar genius. I can’t imagine another person in Austin as dedicated to the craft of designing, constructing, maintaining and fixing guitars. He uses engineering software to design his own guitars, and can turn any piece of wood into a priceless guitar. He fixed my American strat with bad pots, bad intonation, etc...basically completely neglected for years, and made it way better than when I bought it. I got some killer upgrades and now it’s studio ready. You can’t find modest easy to talk to experts like this in the guitar industry. Give him your business! You won’t regret it! Happy customer!
Mythic is a hidden gem in Austin. Been playing around here for years and have tried quite a few techs but Mitch is a stand out. Replaced a factory nut my Charvel and you cant tell its a replacement. Also did a new set up and the guitar plays like a dream. Would highly recommend Mythic for all your guitar needs.
Owner’s reponse was that I am a troll and i left a review under other fake names.Responding after the owner response:I guess he cant take a negative review. He literally forces you to leave a good review for him when honestly customer can be thinking that his service was not even satisfying. I dont know who the others are but im sure they felt the same then.

2022-07-19This review is overdue..Mitch is a stand up guy and a skilled guitar tech/luthier! I needed someone who was knowledgeable enough to work on my valuable nylon-string Flamenco instruments and were able to give me reasonable quote for a bridge saddle/nut replacement. His services are sorely needed in North Austin without having to travel to the city for specialized acoustic repairs. Thanks Mitch..Cheers!

2022-01-27At first I was pleased to get my guitar back at a fair price for the swapping of pickups, wiring harness, and top wrap on my wrap around bridge.Upon closer inspection of the work, I noticed that the soldering joints were pretty sloppy compared to the soldering that came from Emerson Custom.I also noticed some additional dings, that while very small and subtle were on the top of my instrument where they had not previously been any.I had mentioned a buzzing on my open B string and 1st fret fretted B string. This was made worse when Mythic Guitar lowered my action to Gibson spec when I explicitly mentioned that I liked my string height action where it already was.In conclusion, the work felt rushed and a little sloppy, but it was completed at a competitive price compared to other repair shops in town.

2022-04-30Mitch and his team have worked on 3 of my guitars over the last few months. They fixed a couple of cracks on my acoustics and repaired a chip in the neck of my LP. He also set up a couple of them by changing the nut and adjusting the action. They play amazing now. Very happy with their work!

2022-06-17I brought in an older bass that was stored for many years. Mitch was super professional and easy to work with. Got new pickups, knobs, and other guts, as well as a full setup and tune up. Sounds 1000% better now. Great job.

2022-05-08I took my Epiphone Les Paul in to have it serviced and see if I could optimize my setup. Mitch was great. He was clear and fair with what needed to be done. He also recommended looking into some better pickups (Fishman Fluence) (but was not pushy about it) and recommended I look up some Youtube videos on them. I opted to get the pickups and he quoted a fair price for them plus labor. I looked up that a rechargeable battery was available and discussed it with him. He agreed to install that as well. Through no fault of his own (I was the one who found the part which indicated it would fit my guitar) the part did not fit but Mitch found a way to make it fit without too much modification to my guitar. I got my guitar back playing better, betting sounding, faster than any other time I have had my guitar serviced. Mitch was clear and fair about the pricing. I would very much recommend and will definitely go back.

2019-07-12Integrity, humility, quality, and care are what you should expect every single time from Mythic guitar company. I have never experienced anything less in my many visits.Where I only found disappointment at other shops I finally had hope when I stumbled upon Mythic. After two years of trying and when nobody else could help me, Mythic went above and beyond. After bringing my guitar to Mitch its bounds better than new! It sounds beautiful, looks beautiful, plays beautiful! Mitch was nothing but tremendous in his work and support with ideas to help make it even better than what I had imagined. All of it at a very very fair and competitive price.Beyond the quality of the work, which was unmatched, Mitch exudes humility and genuine care for his customers. I felt respected, listened to, understood, and most of all, valued. With these qualities behind your guitar work you have absolutely nothing to fear here. Not only does Mitch do guitar repair but he also has his own custom line of guitars which are incredible!Bottom line. If your guitar is not at Mythic, your guitar is at the wrong shop.

2022-07-22I had a repair consultation here. Though I cant speak for the companys repair work, nor how the rest of the business is run - from my experience with the repair person, I dont recommend this place.First, my appointment was scheduled for 5:30, and they canceled 2 hours beforehand over the phone with no explanation. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt despite the short notice, and agreed to reschedule for 4.I brought three guitars in for repairs - a midrange acoustic, midrange electric, and high-end electric - and the person examining my guitars didnt bother to wipe his dirty hands down before examining the guitars. I had reservations about letting him touch my guitars with what appeared to be black grease on his hands and under his fingernails, and probably should have said something (or just walked out), but against my better judgement I went ahead with the meeting. I came to regret that decision. After measuring the acoustic guitar with a couple of tools, the repair guy wasnt sure if he could fix it, but still gave a $250 estimate with an 80% chance of things working out. The 80% was a red flag, telling me that this repair place does not stand 100% behind their work. Imagine hearing your mechanic tell you there is an 80% chance of your brakes working after they repaired them. Better to not agree to work on something, when you arent sure if you can finish the job. When I explained the issues with my high-end electric, i.e. the upper registers fretting out and pickup output seeming low, the guy said the pickups were likely an amplifier problem. Then the repair guy took my guitar to a nearby amplifier and started noodling in first position (read: not the upper registers, where the problem was), while the amp was heavily distorted. As he played, he started playing some amateur riffs, and clearly showed more interest in playing my guitar than accurately diagnosing the problems I told him about. After 30 seconds of listening to him noodle around like a teenager, I grabbed the guitar out of his hands, unplugged it, and packed up. The guy grinned afterward, saying he needed to play the guitar to figure out what was wrong with it and sarcastically apologized for playing my guitar. Unfortunately for him, I know that pickup heights are normally adjusted by measuring magnetic field strength - not by playing through a distorted amp. This was nothing more than a thinly-veiled attempt to play a nicer guitar than he normally comes across.Dont waste your time with this place.
