National Car Rental in other cities:
I am seriously disgusted at the service my company received at this rental place. We were returning four cars after a work retreat and got one of the rudest if not most disrespectful welcoming by one of the workers. We were accosted by the worker because Im sure she was having a bad day and took that out on our group. There were no signs that indicated that you were to park in a certain area but yet she acted as if there was clear instruction as to what we were supposed to do. We returned the car in the lane that said returns and was not informed of any specific area and one of our party was almost hit by the same worker when she got back in the vehicle. I would never i repeat never rent from that office again as i felt severely disrespected as a customer!
Our TA reserved a car for our trip to Galveston. The process of getting to the rental facility via shuttle to driving away in our rental was seamless! Lakesha and Pamela were wonderful! Would definitely use National at Houston Hobby again. Thanks for the excellent service!
I reserved a car for 4 days at Houston Hobby Airport. I come to this location often and use National. In several previous instances, I have been “overcharged” for gas refills, even though I have bought the car back “full”. It took me a while to get these charges reversed. This time, because it was raining when I returned the car, the agent on the lot told me to head to the terminal and she would check the car in and email me the receipt. Good thing I checked, as I saw an additional $130 for “insurance” which I definitely did not opt in for. I called customer service from my gate and the agent on the other end “confirmed” that I did not opt for the insurance and I was indeed owed a refund. But, alas, he could not do that as it was for “over $100”. I asked for him to find someone who could, as his “sending this off somewhere for further consideration” wouldn’t cut it. Fortunately, the next agent was ably to apply a refund credit, but it sounded like she “was doing me a favor” in doing so. All I can say is that she’ll be doing me the same favor next time. And I’m sure there will be a “next time” at this location as they seem to have a fixation in adding extra charges all the time. It’s egregious and should be reported to some relevant TX authority. Funny, this never happens at any other National location. But at Houston Hobby, I can bank on it. No Bueno, amigos.
Usually, National car rental is on the money. But this last car rental started out with a fee nearly 30% higher than the reserved fee I was quoted when I was exiting out of the gate with the attendant. Than on top of that, I had to prove I had a lower fee and then once convinced of the proper fee, they did a double authorization on my credit card which still has not been fixed after telling me that one of the authorizations would fall off in 1 day which it has not. Then they reached out to me to apologized the the mistakes that they had made and promised a free car rental day for the future which I still have not gotten. A total fiasco and I’m sure they still will not reach out to me to get this whole scenario right. Very very disappointed. Not to mention that did not have the car I had reserved at the pickup time. This is surely not the National Car rental I know!
Update: After returning the vehicle. The staff asked how my experience was and I informed them as to what happened. They quickly got the manager and he bent over backwards to accommodate me. I can honestly say that the manager at Hobby airport was PHENOMENAL! I can confidently say that I will happily stick with National out of Hobby airport. Thank you so much for righting the wrong. The in person service was not too bad. However, the vehicle I picked up had some issues and when trying to exchange it the helpline was less than helpful. They sent me to several different sites that had no vehicles available. Finally I had to drive the 45 minutes back to the airport for the exchange. The said they were going to comp me some days but have done nothing for me
Cool spot for rentals even last minute gigs. The CSR was nice and patient and even helped us inside the store with last minute changes and discounts. Another worker cleaned the car over again for us upon request. Nice staff good selections. Gave 4 becuz they consider Charger a classic luxury rate rental. 💔🤷
Pamla at your checkout gate at the Houston airport was fantastic! Such a great disposition and attitude. As soon as i rolled up to her booth she was incredibly attentive, energetic and just a great person to chat with.Shes the type of person i would hire at my company!!!Well done :)
I love renting from National Car Rental. I get to pick my car but when having a long term rental they dont get it. I call in with my mileage and even though I have my company paying for the rental, they ask you to bring the car in for an Inspection and when you do, no one knows what it is about! Wasted time and frustration. I wish they gave you more free rental days when leasing a long term vehicle. Otherwise, they are my go to for car rental.
Norval, the Assistant Branch Rental Manager, was awesome. He took such good care of us and made sure we had exactly what we needed. He worked quickly to get a car seat for our daughter and made sure we had a family friendly car. We plan to use National and work with Norval again.
My favorite rental place and location been traveling all around the states and never had nice and organized place as this, always ask for upgrades because the staff there will always help you with the best.Don’t remember ever rented a car with more than 10,000 miles on it. Always new cars and clean.
The only reason for 4 stars is the fact that this location is closed between 12am-4am! I initially changed my flight due to it landing at midnight and being unable to get a car! Secondly, my return flight was at 5:30 am and I had to wait until 4am to return the car as this location was not open! Shuttle was however available at 4 am once they did open for returns which I did appreciate! I have never known for a airport rental location to be closed as flights come in at all times! Other then that, no other issues! I only rent thru National!
Lekesha Chatman was extremely professional and thoughtful as I returned the vehicle I rented. Her respectful manner and assuring word lead me to think she was there for me, to help me with whatever I needed to complete a successful rental. She is quite the personable customer service return agent. Hope to work with her the next time I’m at Hobby.
The car rental went great but my issue came uo when I returned the car. I left my iPad in the car. I tried calling 30 minutes after dropping off the car and could not get anyone to answer the phones. I tried several times including calling customer service. After still failing to reach the branch I filed a claim. Of course it was never found but I knew the exact location. Maybe if they would answer the phone I would still have my $750 iPad.Update: I received a response from National Car Rental. Instead of just saying they would look into why no one answered my calls for a week they just replied with we are not responsible for items left. I never thought they were responsible for anything. Just wanted someone to look into why the branch would not answer the phone or return messages.
We utilized the National out of IAH - (Hobby Airport in Houston), when coming back from a cruise out of Galveston. We arrived at the rental car agency offsite as we actually were coming from the Port and not the airport so we missed the check-in process in the airport terminal. This did not matter at all. Make sure you sign up for Emerald Club and use your number when you make your reservations. Because I had done this, Gracie (The Greeter) was able to allow me to choose a car from the lot and then Pamla (The Exit Booth Agent) was able to simply use my confirmation number to do all paperwork in an expedient manner right at the gate. It truly was a great experience and very fast in and out.
The Emerald Club is to die for! I was so impressed by the swiftness of my rental experience. Both IN & OUT! I think this was a genius idea. This was my first time, and with the help of Gracie Deisy, Tamika James & Karliss Williams, it made my experience that much more enjoyable! They were so delightful, attentive, kind and patient. Now thats what GOOD Customer Service is about. THANK YOU ALL! Praise The LORD for simplicity! Keep up the GOOD WORK!
Great customer service and nice facility. I am rating the company 2 stars because there is only 1-2 customer service reps at the counter at all of the airport facilities for National that I have visited this year. I just waited in line for 45 minutes to receive customer service. The company needs to hire more employees!
Having Emerald aisle with National Car Rental just makes sense. They may not always have the car you REALLY want, but they typically have a nice selection of clean vehicles ready to jump in and take off....the ability to walk the aisle and just see what car you fancy on that particular day is super nice....
07/09/2022 @ 6:25am my work team members and myself arrived at National Car Rental and proceeded to returned 4 vehicles when an employee approached us and started yelling at one of the managers that was driving a red Jeep “ where are the keys? Leave the keys tin the car!!!…. The manager politely responded “ I’m sorry sure no problem I didn’t know , I didn’t see anybody out here”. The issue escalated when the employee at National car rental on 7600 Airport Blvd kept repeating “leave the keys in the car” to the other 2 vehicles. At this point my boss raised his vice and said to the rude employee ( don’t yell at my employee.. why are you yelling?” The rude employee made no efforts to diffuse the situation and kept yelling saying that she wasn’t yelling when my entire team of 13 employees are witnessing her unjustified behavior. My company manager at this point asked for A National Car rental manager and a male worker stepped out of the office and did nothing … he was just starring the entire time allowing her to scream at us. This was by far the most bizarre experience and I do not recommend this rental place. The entire team including myself are extremely unsatisfied and disappointed and we will not rent cars from National ever again.
07/09/2022 @ 6:25am my work team members and myself arrived at National Car Rental and proceeded to returned 4 vehicles by pulling into the lanes for returns. As soon as we pulled in we hear an employee proceed to yell at my co-worker 2 cars ahead to Leave the keys in the car and keep it running due to us packing all our luggage in one van rented she began to walk towards my car I was in and get her bag. I could hear the worker screaming where she go in need the keys back in the car now and leave it running The owner of my company that rented the 4 cars, asked her why she was yelling and she began to argue back and forth with him, a male employee came out but did nothing to diffuse the situation. Then a manager gave a number to corporate all while she was still yelling at my boss that paid for 4 car rentals. She also proceeded to drive recklessly in the parking lot at a very high speed, that should be on your cameras? Right? This by far was the worst customer service experience. I am not sure what brand this company stand for but workers like this gives this company a bad reputation. Not sure if she had personal issues but she should of kept all that away from doing business and endangering the lives of my coworkers with her reckless driving.
Dee the lead was very rude. The day we picked up the car. Did not speak loud enough to hear over the noise or the plexiglass. She asked if we wanted to purched the fuel. I told her no, I would fill it up. When we return the car I realize she had charged me for the fuel. When I went to speak her to let her know that I did fill the car up and that I told her at the time of the rental I declined the fuel. She raised her voice at me, would not let me speak. Told me that I asked for the fuel, which was a $89.00 charge. She refused to give me a refund. My only option is sending a email with a receipt of the gas. I will never rent from National. I feel this fuel charge is a scam.
Upon completion of our company retreat, we drove onto the parking lot and even before coming to a complete stop, with the windows rolled up, we heard the voice of a woman yelling. As we exited our vehicle, we saw her yelling at a coworker in another vehicle. She then began driving the vehicles around recklessly in the parking lot, putting everyone at risk. She continued to yell and scream (6:15am approx). She demonstrated no professional decorum and even engaged in a heated exchange with my boss, the owner of our company. This was an unpleasant experience. I only gave a 1 star rating because there was no option for zero stars.
Had my ipad in one of the rental suvs, went to claim it after the flight and suprise suprise it wasnt there anymore. It appears that someone turned it off and reset it so i couldnt track it. Very dissapointed specially after the lady at the counter gave me some attitude for only asking if the tablet was still there and if they could check....
The lot gets starved of cars, choices are few, not cars all are what youd expect in 2022.To the reply:No. I will not be providing all that. You know the lot seldom has more than 5 cars in emerald and often half of that.Im not someone who rented once. Im not looking for a giveaway. My name is unique.Your reply was reflexive and for optics.
I love national. I only wish the mechanics who maintain their cars actually cared about or knew about cars. Without fail, the tires are always 10 lbs over. Ive had to add oil to an engine where there wasnt any, etc. Its sad that people dont take pride in their work and dont put forth the effort.
Had the pleasure of renting a car from Deran at National in Houston TX. He was so professional , personable and helpful. We had a late flight and was tired when we arrived. He was mindful of that and was very efficient and quick. Just a very nice young man who represented National car rental very well. Thank you National!!!
I rent from this airport often and Lekesha was such a pleasure to work with. She went above and beyond to get me in the car I actually wanted and I definitely appreciate her assistance! She even remembered me last time I rented. Keep up the great work! Will recommend to many of my friends and co workers.
I love using the Emerald Club, and picking any car I want out of that section. Lekesha Chatman was so helpful during this process. It only took a few minutes and I was in my car heading out. No waiting on long lines at the the counter, getting frustrated at the only car available and Lekesha’s smiling face helping during the entire process. I highly recommend joining the emerald club!!!Thanks Lekesha
4 months later, the same problem. Worker says it’s been like this since at least November. 15 people in line, no cars. This is a broken business. No stars. What’s Jerry say…”You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just dont know how to *hold* the reservation. And thats really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them…”
National needs to remember they’re in the rental car business. I’ve had nothing but problems when attempting to make a reservation and similar issues when trying to use my reservation. At the Houston Airport I had to stand in the sun waiting for them to bring a car out so I could be on my way.So much my ability to pick from the executive isle. This has happened far too often to be an extenuating circumstance. I’m done with National.UPDATE: I love their response for me to send them the details so they can “look into” this. When I called them yesterday to make another reservation I asked if I could speak to someone in “customer service” and the agent argued with me that no one could help me. After debating the agent on my wanting the issue to be escalated, they finally transferred me. I sat on hold for five minutes and found they sent me to another reservations agent. It’s hard to believe National cares at all about the customer experience.
Given all of the problems in the rental car industry right now, I was honestly dreading renting a car. I cant believe how perfectly the entire transaction at the Hobby Airport location of National Car Rental went. Flawless from shuttle to Emerald Aisle pickup to return. More importantly, the cars were spotless. This wasnt just a case of lowered expectations - if this were any other normal time, I would give the same five star rating. Ive rented vehicles all over the country and from various companies, and this was one of the best experiences Ive had.
This is the worst place I have ever rented a car from. Their wait time to speak to an actual person is over 500 people long and I have tried to reach them every day for 2 weeks. They are usually out of cars and you have to wait for them to get one ready.Update: I was able to get ahold of someone to actually finally speak to them. They do not actually answer the phone at that location and there is no way to contact them directly. Still not happy that I wasted some much time, but they did at least make an effort to respond to the review.
After having bad experiences with 2 other rental companies, I contacted National and they promised they’d have a car ready for me THE NEXT DAY. At pick up, they provided me with a vehicle right away. Check in process would smooth and easy. No long lines and no wait time at all.I encountered change of weather during my trip and I called to ask if I could switch my vehicle at another location in a complete different state - they did! They provided me with the car I needed with the specs I needed, newer vehicle at NO EXTRA CHARGE! I definitely would recommend this company. Great service.
I recently received amazing customer service at the Houston Hobby Airport by National Rental Car associate – Ms. Karliss. She went above and beyond to make my rental experience exceptional. If youre in a jam, ask for her, shell take care of you and make things perfect!
Let me start by saying that most the time Im thrilled with National, however on this occasion my experience was less than wonderful. I am a Executive Elite member which allows me to choose any vehicle on the lot except for luxury models as long as I rent a full size car which I did. I was on the first flight offered from Southwest and was at the lot by 7:30 am. When I arrived at the National lot for Hobby Airport there was not much on the lot to choose from, a couple of small sedans and SUVS and some cargo vans. I went to the front counter there I asked if any large SUVs or Trucks were going through the wash/cleaning process and received nothing but problems from the front counter help. I did let her know of my status and she was indifferent to it or the fact that they didnt have much. I explained that I was willing to wait and her response was too bad everything is spoken for. I know that National, Alamo, Enterprise are all one company and one the Alamo side of the lot there was a 4 door Jeep available and they wouldnt allow for me to get it. This was definitely the worst experience that I have had with National.
I will start by saying, I am usually happy with national rental car. Typically rent 2-4 cars a month. Today, at Houston hobby and after, was completely unacceptable. I’m an executive member, there were ZERO cars available in executive so I was put in a Kia or told to wait an hour for a clean car. AN HOUR!?!?The Kia won’t go over 45 mph. In Houston, on the highway, that is incredibly dangerous. I called national, they told me to go to enterprise by my hotel and I’d get a new car. They had no cars and closed, and told me I was stuck with the car I had. Wouldn’t even call national or other branches to find me a car. I took the car back to my hotel, where I will leave it. I will not drive this car on a highway, and yet national won’t respond or even send a tow truck when called. I even have offered to have the thing towed by AAA but national won’t tell me where to have it towed to. Now, stuck in Houston with a broken down rental car that they should have never made me take. Never renting again, and I suggest everyone who reads this to reconsider renting from any of their brands.
Promises made to replace car that is not working properly and leaking water. However 2 days in to a week rental still unable to get a replacement vehicle. Customer service is lacking service.********UPDATE*******I emailed National as per requested. I let them know that the branch in George Bush Int. Airport did not handle this problem correctly, as the promise to replace the car was never kept. I was told that a member of management would contact me and that has not happened, although they said they did. No calls were received, nor voice mails left. Again promises made and not kept. I find that I have no choice but to take my business elsewhere.*******UPDATE #2*******Emailed National AGAIN! was promised a call from management and still no call a week later. If this is how they take care of there customers, I am have to wonder how well they take care of the fleet of rental cars. Looks like I will be a Loyal Hertz customer from now on*******UPDATE #3********Was promised a call back from the area manager....Never received call. Just show they do not care about the customer
This is my first review of any car rental place but my family just had the absolute best experience. I always enjoy renting cars from National but the service from assistant branch manager Jason R. was way above and beyond. He actually was running across the lot to bring us the car that worked best for our family. Shout out to Jason and this branch.
Several issues.1. The car I paid for was not the car I was given.2. They did not sent me any information as promissd when I picked up the car. I had to do the search for addresses and contact information.3. They advertised Drop and go but there were no directions where this was at.4. When I did get ba person to answer my questions they were curt and not helpful, actuall rude.5. If this was not a coporate account I HAD to use I would select another car rental company.
I reserved a car in Houston Hobby, and although my 32 hour delay due to SouthWest cancelling flights isnt Nationals fault... it didnt help any when I arrived in Houston and was told by the bus driver...Im gonna just take you to the office because we dont have any cars... ( yes i had updated my reservation to the later arrival time...)A black pickup truck became available later, which would not have been my choice, but I was desparate.DONT allow reservations if you know you dont have cars!!!
Claudia at the Hobby airport in Houston was able to straighten out my car reservation that I booked through Priceline. It was changed after my flight was changed. Alamo is also national car rental and they are the only rental car company that stays open to accommodate late and delayed flights.
I have used National Car Rental for years now. I have also been forced to use others in the past (all of the main brands) base on employer requirements. National is, in my humble opinion, the best car rental company, hands down. Their ability to serve their customers, and remove friction in the whole rental process, is extraordinary. Their focus on customer service is evident and real almost every time I rent a car from them. Almost every employee I have dealt with in the past has been professional and respectful. And - when I have had any problems or issues with a rental, they have fixed it quickly - every single time. I have rented over 100 cars from them over the years and will continue to do so based on my past experiences. Thank you National Team!
I arrived at the Houston airport (Hobby) back in September 2020. Im a prepper and already had my rental car rented (3 weeks ahead of time) with confirmation in hand. Once arriving at DOLLAR rental car, I was told -- we dont have no cars! I asked about a van, a truck, anything. They rudely told me - No. No? Even with a confirmation number - No! Never, ever again! I contacted National Rental while being shuttled back to the airport from Dollar and they had a rental car for me within 5 minutes!! The man I spoke to was so nice even with my frustrated tone - not towards him, but the situation. I arrived, gave my new confirmation number and other needed info and voila - I had a brand new car with 4 miles on it! The lady at the gate to let us out noticed that the car had less than 1/4 tank of gas and notated it so I wouldnt have to pay for not filling it up! THAT is excellent customer service!! No hidden fees, no fees afterward. Everything was great and I returned it with almost a full tank just as a thank you for phenomenal service!! Thanks National for turning a stressful situation into a wonderful experience! I wont forget how great you guys were to me!!
Emerald Club membership at National is really worth the money. It saves me time and I can be confident a car will be waiting for me. The technology works and is easy to use, whether Im reserving from the web on my PC or using the phone app.The people at National are pleasant and professional, regardless of the time I am picking up or returning a vehicle. I am a fan.
I was thoroughly pleased with the support I got to help remedy a challenge in my reservation. I had made a reservation to pickup after hours, something I have been able to do as an Emerald Member at most airports, but did not work at the George Bush airport in TX. I arrived after midnight and was unable to pickup my car as the facility was closed and the gates locked. I took an Uber to the hotel that night and when I came back the next day (to a different National counter at a different, closer airports) I had hoped to see if my reservation could be transferred to that location and for me to pick up a car there. The staff there bent over backwards to help me and make sure the reservation was honored. There was a shortage of cars, but somehow they managed to help get me in a car and get me on my way. I was specifically impressed with the help from Jason Recendez and Davin Dear. Without their care for their members and pride in their service my trip would not have been a success. Thank you Jason and Davin!
I travel a lot, and have rented from just about all of the major rental car brands. I can honestly say that I only rent from National now, and dont plan on changing to any other rental car company.National makes the experience of picking up and dropping off a rental car super easy and stress free.I have had other rental car brands give me grief over scratches, or dents that I knew I didnt cause. My most recent National rental received three small chips in the windshield as another vehicle passed me on the highway. I reported the chips to the attendant when I returned the vehicle and he told me not to sweat it, they cover chips and only have an issue if there is a 6 crack in the windshield. Completely different outcome would have occurred if it had been one of the other rental car brands.
Upon returning my rental car at the airport, discovered my return time was before the booths opened and Rental Drop on the app was not allowing me to auto return. The customer service rep went out of her way to guide me on best option to park and leave the car, while reassuring me she would note the file and there would be no issues. By the time I boarded my plane, I had my return receipt in my email and all was good! Thank you for making a hectic early morning more manageable and easy! Truly appreciated!
National Enterprise is the best rental car company by far! I have used them all but have been committed to National Enterprise for the last several years. What makes them great? They have a great culture and the values within their culture are always on full display by their employees. From the shuttle bus driver, to the people that check you in to the people who check you out. I travel all over the country and the experience is consistently the same. You have to be intentional and deliberate to deliver that level of customer service at scale. Finally, the cars are always clean, ready to go, and provides for several options. During the times of COVID, I have taken particular attention to the shuttle bus drivers always wiping down the services in between pick ups. I know it is a tough time for the travel industry but National/ Enterprise is doing it the right way. Keep up the great work and continue to inspire your employees to live their culture and values everyday because that is what will bring you through this pandemic even stronger!
Frequent flyer into Houstons Hobby Airport, i have tried every rental car based at the facility.NATIONAL CAR RENTAL is the best. quick in and out, frequent shuttles, friendly people, and great upgrades.last week i drove an Audi Turbo suv.wont be using anyone else in the future.
This was my first time renting from National. I would normally rent from Enterprise or Thrifty but National was cheaper, so I decided to give it a try. First off, customer service was decent for me. However, employees at the front desk enjoyed talking and joking about other past customers verbal complaints. Well my complaint is that my vehicle was dirty (both outside and inside). My family and I was going out town so I did not have the time to complain or get the issue resolved. When I brought the car back and expressed my concerned to the guy checking the cars in, I was ignored until I said hey, did you hear me? and he said yes with nothing else to follow. Anyway, I would like to rent again if this issue can be fixed. Im use to renting nice clean vehicles considering that I rent a vehicle every other month.
I love using the Emerald Club, and picking any car I want out of that section. It takes minutes and you are in your car heading out. No waiting on long lines at the the counter, or getting frustrated at the only car available. I highly recommend joining the emerald club!!!
I have been using the Houston Hobby National Car Rental center for at least four years about once a month for business. They used to always have a great selection of cars to choose from. However, I am guessing due to COVID, lately I have had to wait to get a car. If they do have cars on the lot, they are not the great selection they used to have. I hope this is due to staff shortages and starts to improve soon. The staff is always friendly and helpful, my only issue is the car selection.
Typically I rent about 40 cars a year for business travel. I really like National. I get to pick the car I want to drive and check out on my National app. When Im done, I just leave the car at the return center and get an email receipt. National is very easy to use, friendly, good vehicles. If I have ever had an issue it has been easily and quickly resolved. In the past I have used the other big companies but they do not stack up to National at all in my opinion. National is the best I have used.
I was very disappointed in my rental experience this time. We have rented from Emerald Aisle many times in the past through my husband’s account with no problems but this time I rented on my own. My sisters and I took off on a 5,000+ mile adventure across the west and rented from Hobby. Our first vehicle was only a 4 cylinder Jeep Cherokee and it was having problems in the mountains so we traded it out in Denver for a Dodge Durango. We traveled to Yellowstone and about 4 hours later my check oil light came on. I checked it and it was at 1%! We had no phone service and were scared we might breakdown so we headed all the way back to Jackson Hole- missing an entire vacation day! I tried to get a hold of someone from National but just kept getting recordings (it was after hours). I finally tried their roadside service three times and it rang over 50 times and then just cut off! I was furious. The next morning I finally got a human on the line and she told me they probably just forgot to reset the oil. I’m sorry but for three women out in the middle of nowhere, PROBABLY isn’t good enough. I paid a guy at a service center to check and make sure we had fresh oil- which we did thank goodness. I tried to explain to the guy when we returned the vehicle but he just threw his hands up and brushed me off saying they’ll email you so tell them then. So I’m telling you now. I won’t be renting from you anymore because your customer service is the worse I’ve ever experienced and your so-called roadside service is non-existent!
Please heed my warning and do not rent from this location because they will leave you stranded.I had the worst experience with National Car Rental and was left stranded last Friday night at Houston Hobby airport. I reserved a vehicle a week prior but when I arrived I was told that they were completely out of cars. When asked what could be done I was told that all the other car rental companies near the airport were closed and I could take an Uber/Lyft to my destination. Otherwise they’d call in the morning with a car (I still haven’t received a call). I was in pure disbelief because I’m a woman traveling alone and needed a car to drive 1.5 hours to College Station for a graduation. I was left standing there at 9pm with no car, no hotel, and knew absolutely no one in Houston. I am appalled as I never thought this could happen to me. I ended up taking an $80 Uber to the next airport to find a car. The Uber driver stated that it’s common for them to run out of cars and that this has been a problem even before the pandemic as she’s used to driving people around to different car rental agencies to find a car. This is unacceptable. MD Anderson Cancer Center is nearby and I know a lot of patients fly into this airport to go there. Please avoid National Rental Car at all costs.
HOUSTON HOBBY NATIONAL PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER! It’s worth your money and time to fly to IAH instead. You pay a few dollars more and if your activities are in the southern sector or the city book an earlier flight time. But you can almost guarantee you’re going to have to wait for a car. I’ve missed 2 events because of National! I’ve learned my lesson.
I did not have any issues with the car. I like now that the ride to the lot is a lot shorter and better rout. I dont like that the bus is not easy to get in and out of. They are like school busses with steps and narrow door and the driver does not help getting your luggage when loading at the airport, he did at the lot. I did not like the use of 1 counter doing all the car brands. The line was long. I would not had to go to the counter because i have executive status, but there was no cars in the executive area.
Car was dinged up, smelled of smoke, and was not up to usual National standards. Lady at the checkout booth at Hobby was very friendly and welcoming. She explained that due to the recent cold weather in Houston, cars had to be borrowed from other vendors. She helped out by discounting the rental, but driving in a car smelling of smoke for a week was awful and not worth the $50 reduction. National is normally my first choice but Ill look at others next trip before selecting.
Got the car I wanted and which worked well for me. Check-in and out was simple as an Express member. However, I still find it a little disconcerting to wander out into the lot alone with no one around. I signed up for a specific class of car, but I had to find it myself among all the others cars, which were basically in two classes: Emerald Isle and Executive Isle. There was no specific area for my requested class, compact SUV.In another city, I got to the lot at 9 on a Friday evening. There were exactly two cars available, both monster SUVs, which I do not like to drive. There was a person on duty who offered me the choice at my original rental price, but I still did want a monster. He was helpful, went to a related agency, and found one remaining vehicle in my class. This choose your own can work both ways, for or against you.
Every time I come here I am more and more disappointed by this company. They are lucky my company mandates what rental car provider I have to use or I would have chosen a different one a long time ago. The staff here (with the exception of one young lady at the check out booth) is rude, rude, rude. They have no concern for anyones time. Im not here for vacation, Im here for work. When I got onto the shuttle bus at the airport we sat for almost 5 minutes while the bus driver took a personal phone call on his cell phone. When I interrupted him and told him I needed to get to work he told the person on the phone that he would call them back then turned around and told me it was an important call but I get it. I have an hour drive to work from the airport, and need to arrive by a certain time, what I dont have time for is you to sit and take a phone call. Then of course, like every week, we get to the lot and there are barely any cars to choose from but compared to last time where there were ZERO cars to choose from, Id say its a step up. This is the worst run National I have ever been to and coming from someone who travels 50 weeks a year thats saying something. I wish I could choose another provider when I come to Houston because I hate, hate, HATE this place with a passion.Oh, I also didnt realize until I left the lot that the car only had a half tank of gas in it.
Ordering and confirmation of vehicle is very easy and convenient. Even though the Location is off site at Houston Hobby, there was excellent service in catching the shuttle and the directions from staff to the appropriate aisle. However, the return seemed a little rushed with very little communication on what to do, where to leave keys, how to find the shuttle, etc. Even though the staff were not discourteous - it certainly did not feel customer friendly. Also, I think there needs to be improvement in the thoroughness of checking the cars back in. I left both a phone charger and a child car seat in the car, but did not notice, nor did the staff notice checking the car back in. Excellent service would have been to notice both of those and let me know. Overall very good experience!
Con:The only complaint make sure you find a Gas Station close to the Airport when you turn the vehicle in because their vehicles have an electronic fuel meter. Which measures fuel down to a tenth of a gallon. If you don’t find a Gas Station, don’t be surprised to see your on receipt in you’re email a charge for an extra $7.43 for 0.8 gallons of gas, or about $9.29 per gallon, which includes all applicable Airport Fees.Pro:I got refunded the $7.47 after complained about it this stupid Fuel Charge to the Customer Service 1-800 number.National Representative, Mary took the best care of me during my Checkout at Hobby Airport.
My recent trip to Houston using National Car rental overall was complete satisfaction. Since my travel was during 3 day weekend, most of their vehicles were rented, staffs were willing to walking extra miles to locate a particular vehicle of my choice. Branch manager even reached out to me to apologize for the long line and delay.Overall, I am very happy with National car rental company. And yes, I will use their service again in the future. Btw, I strongly recommend to enroll in Emerald or Executive club to bypass front desk and paperwork.
I had not rental from National Car Rental in a while. I think National has risen to the top as far as rental cars go! I rented a car in Houston last week with excellent pricing, friendly, efficient service and cars available. Nowadays your reservations are not always honored at some companies. Im now an Emerald Club member so I look forward to greater things from National Car Rental.
I had such a great experience at this location - When we got on the bus at the airport to drive over to their lot, the bus driver told us that the wait time for cars was an hour and a half. So if people wanted to get off and go to another competitor they could. I chose to stay on the bus and wait. When I got to National, there were a few cars and no one seemed to be upset that they had to wait - that was because of the exceptional customer service that was being provided by the employees there. I wasnt in a big hurry so I let other people go ahead of me and waited for the type of car I wanted. I think I was there a total of 30 minutes. The gal that was working out in the lot was GREAT!! Im so sorry I cannot remember her name - the car I had was fantastic and comfortable and SUPER clean. I love National more than any other car rental company - they are a first class operation. I am a loyal customer and will always choose you first over the others. Thanks for all the hard work you do to provide excellent, exceptional customer service!
It was my 1st time renting from National. Easy booking, quick shuttle at Hobby to the car lot. Getting the car was a breeze as well as dropping it back off. The only issue I had was I did not get the Intermediate car I reserved months in advance. I ended up being given a selection of compact cars. The car was so basic (not even cruise control), loud and stained. I needed a larger car (reason for booking one) as I was then driving R/T from Houston to South Padre Island (6 hours away) with a toddler. They did automatically reduce the pricing upon car return from the intermediate to a compact, without my asking. This was good service in my eye.
Four days after returning my car I received a notification from their DRU - damage recovery unit, that there was damage to the car I turned in. There was no indication of issues when I dropped the car off and I put very few miles on the car and had no incidents. It has been a week and I still have received no information from them on the details of this supposed damage other than acknowledging the recipient of my emails asking for details.I picked the vehicle up from the Emerald Isle so I recommenced if you do the same, get on your hands and knees and check for any damage before you take the car even if it is not easily visible or you may be charged with damage.
I recently took a work trip to LA, but had to fly into Houston Hobby. I picked up my car from the airport location and had to go inside because the credit card I had on file had changed. The lady that helped me at the front desk was pretty incredible. I was in and out in less than 10 mins. I reserved a premium car because oddly enough it was cheaper than a standard car. When I arrived at the lot, it was like old mother Hubbards cupboard. It was bare. Lucky for me, there was still yet another upgrade that I had to take because of the lack of premium vehicles. I wasnt disappointed about having an Audi Q5 for the 2.5 hr drive I had. The amazing vehicle aside, the folks inside were great, very quick, super friendly and there was free water. Im pretty sold on only renting from National.
Im giving up on National Car Rental. Im an Executive level member and am able to choose their Emerald Isle option and pay for the Mid Size price for any vehicles in their Emerald Isle. However, the last few times Ive done this thereve been few options and most all have been mid size and LOWER!For example, I flew into Houstons Hobby airport just a week ago and there were ZERO vehicles in their Emerald Isle, and only 4 cars in their Executive Isle. I went to the National office on the lot because there were dozens (yes, DOZENS) of vehicles that actually fit the criteria of the Emerald Isle experience parked on the National lot. I explained that Im an Executive member and asked if I could choose one of the many, many vehicles parked on the lot and they told me those were already booked. Really?? Houstons Hobby airport is anything but busy right now, and I was the only one on the shuttle from the airport. They told me I was welcome to choose a car from the Executive vehicles (how generous since Im EXECUTIVE level member anyway). So... here were my choices from the Executive Isle... 2 Mazda Crossovers a Chevy Impala and a Mini Cooper (yes, a Mini Cooper in a program that is supposed to provide you a Mid size or greater vehicle). Having said that, the nicer of the 4 was the Mini Cooper so I chose it.I noticed that Hertz and I believe Budget now offer similar programs so I will be switching to one of those two. Im tired of being taken advantage of by Nationals marketing of this program, which is completely and totally bogus.
I got a flat tire and was able to pull into an Enterprise (partner) location before a large technical demonstration. Even in an Enterprise location I was unable to get the tire fixed or the car exchanged. I had several calls with your service department. Several were closed with no follow up or explanation and I only learned about them after calling back myself. Finally I arranged for an exchange an hours drive away. The car they gave me had mechanical failures and shook at highway speeds but it was the only available car at the time. After calling service for several more hours the next day, I drove another two hours to find out that your hours had changed at the only location I could get a car from. Mind you I had spent three hours on customer support at this point and no one told me they would be opening 3 hours later than usual. The rep came 10 minutes late (12:10) and told me he had no clean cars. All in I spend 6 hours driving and at least 4 hours on the phone to deal with a flat tire. My only other option was to pay for a new tire myself and if I cant trust your company to get me a car replacement how would I trust you to pay me back? At a corporate level you are not giving your employees the tools they need to do their job. This is beyond COVID. Talk to your employees, listen to what they need help with. Everyone wanted to help me but had no assets.
National gets it right. I was in and out of the lot in 10 minutes. Car selection was limited but I found a new Jeep Cherokee that was fine. I returned the car the same day and the service was excellent. Friendly and competent employees. National is always my first choice.Nick Yancich
Ive had the pleasure of renting several cars from National over the past year. every single time the service from the workers has been excellent. the process of renting a car is extremely easy, no need for long lines and even longer waits. The selection of vehicles is more than enough. The benefits of being a longtime customer is well worth it. I highly recommend renting from National
I have generally liked National. There is usually a good selection of vehicles. And at Hobby airport, we often got nicer vehicles than if we flew into Bush Intercontinental. But, this time flying into Hobby, I was disappointed by the lack of available cars and lack of variety.I have Emerald Executive membership, but that aisle and the regular Emerald aisle did not have much selection. The perk is that you pay for full size but can choose from any size in that aisle. But only small cars were there, so basically negating any real benefit of the perk. The only car that fit three suitcases was a Ford Fusion. And there was only one of those. There were pick up trucks also. But not practical for luggage and four people, especially in case there had been any rain.Only reason I even give 3 stars, is that the Ford Fusion was a good vehicle and was reasonably clean.
When I arrived, only cars available were compact cars and minivans. I am a 6ft3, 250lb guy who reserved a full size vehicle. So myself and 10 others had to wait approx 20 min for a full size car to be cleaned and made available. It was a bit frustrating as this is not the 1st at this location or other locations prior to the pandemic. Was not sure car was completely sanitized. I was looking for signs of interior cleaning but could not find any signs of this.
The car and customer service was great up until when we returned the car. My friend accidentally forgot a few items in the car and were already running late to catch our flight. We immediately tried contacting customer service and the local National branch where we had returned the car but no one was able to locate or provide any updates. We knew that the longer we wait, the more unlikely the item will be returned as the car will be used by another customer shortly after. Still no update and weve come to accept that it is a lost cause now.
I first rented with National in December of 2008 and ever since, this has been my company for car renting. Their customer service is great, their free upgrades especially for the Emerald Club and Executive Club are the best in the business unlike some other car rental companies who try to suck you of ever penny they could. The car renting experience is very smooth with a very dedicated team always there if you have any issues. I have rented with other companies as well, but no one even comes close to National. Love to be a National Customer....
My experience at the Houston Hobby airport National was mediocre.Their computer system was down so I was not able to checkout at the exit gate. The driver did not inform the customers, so we had to back away from the gate, park and go inside to check out. When inside, the checkout was slow. When I returned the car, there was only one bus shuttling people to and from the airport. They had a 4 occupant limit (due to Covid), so it took three trips to get the number of customers to the airport that would have normally taken one trip. Since they only had one shuttle bus operating (there were four un-used shuttle buses parked to the side), it took quite a while.
Checking is was good but the return process was confusing. I returned the car and the next day they were asking when I was going to return the car. It took 3 days to get figured out because most of the customer representative are working remotely and could not get access to the information.
The vehicle pickup at emerald aisle was perfect and seamless like always. Unfortunately the return was a bit stressful. I had indicated on the reservation that I would not be returning to the airport but to a remote location. We got to the remote location only to learn it was closed after the pandemic. While I completely understand the reason, the system needs to be updated to indicate that the location is not available. It was very frustrating to have to return the car all the way back to the airport as it was the closest to downtown Houston.
Pleasant and friendly. I did have trouble getting someone on the phone, however. Besides that, once I arrived to pick up a car it was easy and near seamless! I rent from them extremely frequently! As long as you don’t need to speak to someone on the phone about a forgotten item or something similar, it’s an excellent overall experience. I would recommend renting from them!
Omg!!! I was Blessed to meet one of their PROFESSORIAL and FRIENDLIEST staffers JEROME @hobbyairport location. He went above and beyond to help me locate my return rental with ALL my belongings still in the trunk. As I was explaining to him that this happened to me in the past and took over a month to get my belongs bk. He quickly jumped into action to help me find the car. Within fifteen minutes THE CAR was back from enterprise and I was able to retrieve them from the trunk. National JEROME should be supervisor in the training department on how CUSTOMER SERVICE should be... I will definitely spread the word of how this location is great again. Thanks JEROME!!!
There no cars available when I arrived. I booked this reservation weeks in advance of my trip but yet there were no cars available. I had to wait until someone returned a car which required I wait until it was cleaned. My rental car wait was longer than my 2 hour flight. I was given a car that had a warning light displayed for a maintenance issue. I took it out of desperation but was concerned about my safety the entire time I had the vehicle which was over a week. I expect there to be challenges in a COVID-19 world but this was a bit much. Why would you book for more cars than you have available?
Ive been renting from Houston Hobby National for many years and never been disappointed. I rented for the weekend since about a year ago and still recieved excellent service. Saw some old faces Ms Hanna and some new faces Ms Pam, I didnt remember the young man and lady that helped me in the inside. Shout out to you all for a great job.
First time on business travel since COVID began and picked up a car from the HOU location of the Executive Area at National. I choose a Toyota Highlander. When I opened the backseat door the car obviously wasnt cleaned much less COVID cleaned. Looks like something was spilled on the backseat and the entire care was simply dirty. I didnt have time to change cars until finding a vehicle that was clean. I am concerned that the vehicle wasnt clean and more concerned that someone was just in the vehicle and it wasnt cleaned. I am a longtime customer of National and have always been pleased up until this week. The number of cars to choose from was weak at best. Maybe 5 to 6 vehicles in the Executive Area so not much to choose from anyway. Just a longtime customer that is very disappointed. Regretfully, Kerry Marcus
Ive been to this location many times over the years and its always the same. Poor vehicle selection with many models that would be standard cars elsewhere reserved as premiere. The staff has always been helpful, but thats this locations only saving grace. COVID has hit this location hard with row after row of vehicles waiting to be cleaned and no cars to rent.
I arrived at the National lot very late in the day (11:30pm). The shuttle driver was happy to drop me off at the emerald aisle which had ZERO vehicles parked there. I eventually flagged down an attendant who was able to find a vehicle. The back end of my National experience also ended badly. As I was placing my carry on bag on the luggage holder on the shuttle bus. I managed to cut my thumb open on the slightly sharp metal support bracket. The shuttle driver seemed more concerned about getting to the airport and onloading the next batch of customers than in my shuttle induced injury. This Houston National experience was my worst ever. Never a problem in San Diego, Phoenix or Florida.
I arrived at the airport around 10:00pm and there were no standard cars available so I chose a car that looked like a mid size car, when I approached the window, I informed the cashier that there were no compact or standard size cars, she said well you just have to pay the additional THIRTY DOLLARS per day. I did not have time and was tired so I informed her that it was one of the only cars available and she said that is the price. I rent at National at least a few days every month and this was NOT a good way to treat your Emerald customers
Today we flew into Houston and reserved a rental car through National. A sign was up to get onto a shuttle located outside which as soon as walking out the door the shuttle was ready and waiting. Walking into National we were greeted and offered bottle water which was pleasant. Jamal greeted us and his customer service was astounding! He upgraded us to a larger vehicle and was able to get us a little bit of a discount which was more than appreciated. Due to this experience I would absolutely book with National again. Thanks Jamal for starting our family trip out great!
The pick up and car were great. I also had a decent Drop Off in Houston at Hobby Airport. However, this is a Drop and Go location. It took them 5 days to check in the car and didnt acknowledged the screw up EVER. This will not stop me from renting from National, but the customer service need Major improvement.
Quick in and out if you know what to do. My company typically books Enterprise but this time selected National. I loved being able to select my own car and drive away; however, I didnt know that was the process until I asked an associate. This was just one time problem since Ill know for the future. Other than that, I would give 5 stars for everything else.
The people were very helpful, courteous and helpful to visitors. My only complaint was that I asked for a specific vehicle and confirmed it with my contract. They didnt have it so I had to settle for something less. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It just made a tight fit. But, I do appreciate the manager at least trying to find me a vehicle.
Best service ever! I was whisked away to the rental lot, and greeted by an attendant that helped me pick out the perfect car for my situation. I enjoyed driving the Nissan Rogue, and it was very easy to return the car to the lot at the end of my trip. Thanks, National!
I have been here only once so far but my experience compared to other national rental centers has not been great. I had to wait in a queue to get my car on this day. The staff were trying their best to give the car of your choice as they were coming from the car wash. The staff was friendly too but the overall experience was less than satisfactory.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE ! I made a reservation a week in advance to show up and they have NO cars. They finally found a car for me. The car had so many dents and scratches which I told the lady at the parking booth about and she said none of them were bigger than a quarter don’t worry about it. When we took the car back the RUDE manager (Omar) told us he was looking for hail damage. Hail damage ? It was Sunny July Texas weather. I don’t know where it was hailing at but okay. I looked at the suppose damage that he claimed happened and didn’t see anything. And they tried to blame the damage that we showed the lady before we drove off the lot on us. We tried talking to the manager Omar but he walked away saying that my insurance will contact me about the claim. HE SHOULD BE FIRED. Btw I found a used masked hanging on the steering wheel , I guess the car was never cleaned. I would give 0 stars if I could. Never ever would I rent from here again
Each time I visit the Hobby Airport National it is a pleasant experience. Everyone is friendly and seems to be in a good mood. This says a lot about this location. I have been to several other locations across the country, but Hobby is the one I go to the most. I use them for business and personal.
Friendly staff and very professional. But I do have a concern for the employees I seen some wearing mask and gloves. I didnt see anyone disinfecting the vehicles as they were being returned. I just hope theyre thinking of taking precautions, especially with all these vehicles coming from everywhere and so many different people in and out of these cars. Disinfecting should be a #1 priority for the customers and employees. For everyone in general...
I travel frequently for personal and business. I have found that National and the Emerald club always gives me the best deal. I love that I can walk up and pick any car I’d like. The prices are always reasonable and the staff is always friendly no matter the hour. The choice of vehicles is a nice variety and I always know I’m getting a good working vehicle. National is my go to choice for car rentals.
Always a great experience booking with Alamo. Customer service is always great, they have a vast selection of vehicles & the rates are often the best. The process is so seamless! Theyre my trusted choice when renting a car. If you need to book a car Alamo, National & Enterprise really are the best.
Everything is great with the car and service, but I am growing increasingly annoyed by two sets of keys being cabled together. It makes it impossible to carry in a pocket or other convenient area. A great company should be able to find a way to prevent loss of keys without cabling a giant wad of keys together at the annoyance of your customers.
I love the emerald club freedom I get picking whatever vehicle I choose to.Quick in and out and I had the Buick Enclave which handles marvelously and provided enough space for the soccer girls I had to drive around all weekend.Perfect service all the way around and more than friendly customer service reps whenever I come to rent!!
Recently rented with them and do typically for any trip to Houston which is 4-5 times a year. I use national as my primary rental agency as I travel for work. Had vandalism to car at hotel I was staying at. Took an entire day to be able to receive help to get a replacement car as the entire front driver window was shattered. Every department forwarded me to another. Was told I couldnt get a replacement car without driving to airport and was also told could get a replacement car that the would help me get. Every story was different every time I was transferred. When I spoke with manager a day later regarding the issue he assured me he would waive cost and help make things better as I lost an entire day of work trying to get a car - huge waste as I was there on business. He has not followed up. He blamed the staff at the checkout for not giving the business card to me with their contact information. Staff at the national office blamed the roadside assistance. I hate to break it to you, National, you are all one company at the end of the day. Unimpressed. If you have any type of emergency or need they are NOT RELIABLE.
Please to see social distancing was kept even at the shuttle to the terminal. The rest of rental was good, car in good condition - noted it was not as cleaned as I would have expected due to COVID-19, I swiped the entire front space with my wipes before staring to drive it. Noted dusty dirty areas. Still room for improvement!
Very rarely do I have issues renting from National and when I do, they work very hard to clear up any problems. I want to thank Stefanie Kirkpatrick, the manager at the Hobby airport location for going above and beyond in making me feel as a valued customer. When the vehicle I had rented had a maintenance issue (Toyota 4runner indicates an upcoming oil change as a maintenance required notice on the dash), she fixed the issues that resulted, such a delay in my plans, and really cemented my decision to remain a National Car Rental customer for life. Thank you to the Hobby airport employees - you all do a fantastic job!
I do not have status with National and I reserved a standard car, yet the gentleman that helped me out tonight quickly got me into my rental within minutes and was nice enough to put me in an SUV. Also he was working solo, yet still managing multiple customers at once. When I left the airport, it was lightly raining, but the streets were flooded. By the time I got about a mile from my destination, it was torrential downpouring with extremely low visibility. I was so grateful to be in an SUV! Thank you for your fantastic customer service!
Horrific ordeal. Recently signed up with Nat/Emerald business discounts. However my normal enterprise rates were so much cheaper.Landed in HOU. The shuttle is always fast and bumpy. Like a rollercoaster ride.Once inside. Only one person working desk for both locations. As me and 5 other people walk in.After my turn, the car I received smell of smoke and weed. Horrible.Took over 20mins to locate another car.Not impressed
I have never been to an car rental with such wonderful people. I want to give a special thanks to Ms. Donna she is a one in a million I have few issues and she stopped all she was doing just to make sure all my needs was met and I had a wonderful experience. I give this location a 1million stars and moregreat customer service, excellent communication. all around superb facility.
Made a reservation with Hotwire for this location.Looking to rent a car for a roadtrip but I am a local, my mistake. Was not aware that CC is required and the option for Debit card requires proof of Roundtrip Plane Ticket. Thats fine but the customer service was NOT good. The woman who assisted me was rude and didnt offer me my options instead brushed me off and blurted next customer! When I walked in she was at the National desk, asked if I had a reservation with Alamo, insisted she could help me then treated me badly.. ?Now I contacted Hotwires customer service and another woman assisted me with the helpful information and offered the option a one-time refund, which is great! But being treated like that in front of guests by the woman at this location was a bit unprofessional.
I had someone in a privately owned car block my entrance to the National Rental Car lot. He then backed into me, hitting my rental car. I asked him to proceed into the lot so that we could share information. To my dismay he tried to pull through the National Rental car lot and leave. A National employee saw what happened and stopped the guy before he could leave. She let me know that they would get his information and I was free to proceed to the shuttle to catch my flight.Unfortunately the rental car was damaged but fortunately the process for me was very simple with the help of the National employees.
Made a rental reservation and as I arrived to select my car, i found that we had made some errors in the reservation name. Garrett, of National Rent a Car, was very proactive in helping me correct the situation. In no time at all I was on the road. Thanks to Garrett and his incredible service, Ill definately do my future arrangements with National!
Great experience and service every time. Its nice to pick up your car or drop-off after a long trip, with their customer service professionals going above and beyond to ensure a seamless transition with flawless execution. I rent from National consistently all over the United States and the level of service continues to only get better with each visit to one of our clients or visits to either my family or my partners family. My most recent visit was to Boston and then to Texas, where i rented twice in one week and when your traveling for 11 days its always nice when there are no surprises when getting your rental car. Cheers and Happy Driving.
The vehicle I rented was great and everything worked perfectly. I liked the self service option available with the Emerald member status. However, it took a little time to figure out what to do. Better instructions would have been helpful, especially since the airport counter was closed when I arrived.
Super easy, shuttle picked me up and dropped me right beside the cars. I just picked one and drove it to the gate where a pleasant person checked my ID and I was on my way. Return was super easy, and when I accidentally kept the key-less fob in my pocket they called and texted me before I reached the airport so I just gave it to the shuttle driver. Will definitely continue to use National.
Car selection is pretty good and I like the Emerald Club feature of Grab & Go. Cuts out Counter-Time after a long flight. Ive only had a couple of cars that have been heavily used (more rattles then expected). Return is super easy. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness of the interiors. Ive had more than a few disgusting cars in the past (sneeze residue on the windshield and steering wheel, food droppings on the center console, and grossly stained seats).
I have a flight boarding at 4:35 AM. Did not realize this was not a 24 hr return. Now I have to wait until they are open at 4 to return to this car? I was asking someone to please let me to return the car, all she said was they open at 4. If flights out of the airport are boarding at 4:35AM, then the rental return should be open at least an hour before! Tried to call National, no one answered. This is extremely frustrating! Im going to miss my flight!Edit: I got a call from a Manager who seemed very sensor in understanding what happened. After expressing my concerns regarding Nationals rental return times vs flight boarding times, she said she was going to speak with the district V.P. She also stated she was going to call me later this week. I increase the number of stars from 1 star to 3 stars due to her quick response (the Manager left a message for me within hours). Once I hear back with a sustainable corrective action, I will let everyone know!Cheers!
Starting with the very poorly labeled pick up spot, there was also no one at the pick up place to assist me when I could not understand where to get the car because there were just rows and rows of cars stacked up so I could not pick one out. Once I finally obtained my car (because another customer told me), I spent over 20 minutes with the agent trying to leave because he said I was not an authorized driver on my husband’s account. I had to back out of the exit line and go inside where after some back and forth, someone finally found that I was indeed on the account. It was ridiculous. I have never had such an issue before.Very bad experience at that Houston Hobby location.
This has been my favorite rental car company as of late. I like Emerald Isle, being able to just show up and jump in a car is awesome. Always a quick return in my experience. Pricing is middle of the road, and the service is good. Have not had a bad experience except in Atlanta, where the cars have a tendency to be sold out.
The car was great, however I was renting on a business trip and somehow they ended up charging my personal card an astronomically high amount for the car. Thankfully it was cleared up by the time I returned the car and the charge was lifted from my card and the correct amount was billed to the business account, but it added unneeded stress and effort to my trip.
I travel for work (mainly to Houston Hobby location) and used Natioanl for many many years until recently when our company changed to a differant rental company and I was forced to change. After a year with the other company I was able to return to National. The service and hospitality is top notch...even after being gone a year it was like I had never left with the welcoming I received to say nothing of the great selection of cars. Customer Service is everything in a service industry and I believe there is none better than the National group at Houston Hobby! Keep up the good work!
Shuttle was on time, fast, and driver was friendly. The facility is like most other National lots, with rows of cars to choose from. The signage for the rental car return could be improved. The inside windshield and windows in my car were filthy. I wasnt too happy about that.
My 1 star is the result of a poor process. I dropped my rental off at this facility. I left my sport jacket in the backseat. I jumped on their shuttle and headed to the terminal. When I was at TSA check in no more than 10 minutes later I realized what I had done. I called the number listed. It rang and rang and rang then disconnected. 2 time same thing. Third time same thing. You get the point. I then called the main customer service number which is off site. By now it’s been nearly 30 -40 minutes. I am boarding my plane. I speak with a nice lady who directs me to their lost and found site. The application that needs to be filled out is lengthy and on a tablet it’s difficult. After all of that I still have no jacket and no phone call and no email. This all could be solved so simply. Make it easy...like when I rent a car from you. That jacket had sentimental value to me. It’s also very very nice. My thought is someone at your agency felt the same way because here I wait staring at your “items found” page and do you know what the only lost item found that day was? A fanny pack. I want my jacket back National. Is it such a mystery that no one has found it? I don’t think so. I hope whoever has it now is enjoying it. Fix your process National.
The choice provided on Emerald Isle is always a great experience but service is becoming lax. The vehicles often times have low mileage. However, recently I was allowed to leave Houston Hobby and check-out a vehicle with an activated tire pressure warning light that I promptly returned. I have also noticed that the service technicians are not taking the time to properly clean the vehicles. The windows are often dirty and the interiors are not thoroughly cleaned. Please take the time to check and service the vehicles.
Being a part of the Emerald Club with National Car Rental is one of the easiest processes. You pick and choose any vehicle, scan the code on the keys via the app, and drive off the lot. The car was super clean and rode very smooth. NC is a little more pricey than some competitors, but you get peace of mind of with it which is more important to me when taking a road trip. Thank you National Car!
Ive rented a car weekly for the last 9 years from National and have never had a negative experience. Cars are new, clean, and well maintained. I rent the majority of the time from this location and am routinely greeted by the same smiling faces on the shuttle and in the parking lot. Well done National-Hobby!
I reserved a car and double and triple checked by phone to make sure my requested car would be there the morning I needed it. I show up at 5am and my nightmare came true. The car I needed to fit the amount of people was not available. The national manager never called me back after I was told they would. I kept calling back trying to resolve this issue and when I finally was able to get ahold of someone they were rude and just told me that’s the way it is and there was nothing they could do about it. I ended up having to take 2 cars on the trip...never will book with National again.
I was not pleased with the person working at the counter, she was very rude. There was a problem with my credit card, it had expired, and I didnt have enough available credit to pay for the rental on a different credit card, and because the original reservation did not include my husband, we could not use his credit card or add him to the reservation. the original reservation was around 450.00 but to change the reservation and put it in my husbands name would be over 900.00, for the same vehicle, same number of days, etc., which to me, didnt make any sense at all. Then when I went to pay for the rental with my debit card, she said the card declined, (multiple times), which I had more than enough money in the bank to cover the charges. It was, in fact an error on her part because she was entering my name incorrectly so the card could not be validated and in turn, was declined. We had come to town because my mother had just passed away and my experience with the person at your counter did not help the situation.
Had a great experience with National. I usually use another rentals company but they were out of cars. I was well treated by the folks at National and the selection of vehicles was outstanding. I will look to use National for future rentals. You should give them a look for your future rental needs.
Flew into my destination pick out the car I wanted got in started the car drove off, just that easy for Emerald card holder. They have a wide selection to choose from. From sport car to SUV etc. In enjoy driving Nationals cars. Have had a problem with them yet. I think you like them too!
National Car Rental is my preferred service when I am in Houston. I travel a lot for work and I have just about every car rental company, National is the most convenient, reliable, cost effective, and professional company I have dealt with. I highly recommend National over the rest. The Staff at Hobby airport are amazing people and youre always treated Kindly by everyone their.
Quick in and out. The only issue that needs to be addressed is getting a hold of someone at the actual facility via phone. I called several times to speak with an agent to extend the rental time. I also called a different facility in the area and was redirected to speak an agent at the location where I initially rented the vehicle. After multiple attempts, I reached out to Nationals customer service number and spoke with an agent who also tried to get a hold of someone at Hobbys facility with no success. She stated she would leave a message for someone to call me back the same night, and I never received a call.
The people were very cordial and the bottle of cold water was a nice touch as well. I had rented a pickup for this particular trip and everything was perfect with the truck I got. I especially like Nationals Emerald Aisle concept of being able to choose the make, model and color of the vehicle Im going to be driving.

2022-05-09Yet another great experience at National. Every employee I came in contact with was extremely helpful and inviting, from the shuttle driver, to the nice lady behind the counter, and even the guy checking in the vehicle upon return. When it comes to vehicles, even with the shortage of cars, they had a great selection. I chose an awesome, fully loaded 2022 Ram 1500 Limited. I know most rental vehicles are pretty basic, but it’s nice to see that they also stock the high-end trim levels of some cars. I’ll definitely use this location again next time I come to Houston. 5 Stars!

2022-07-18I had an amazing experience renting a car from here in Houston. I was able to make the reservation and pick the car up immediately after my flight the day of and their prices were amazing. The car was awesome and it was totally worth paying for them to fill up the gas afterwards so I wouldnt have to worry about it. Will definitely rent another car from here in the future.

2022-07-07This place literally have 0 cars when we arrived after our flight. Claiming it’s a “busy weekend” but when is it not? As a executive aisle member there were 0 cars on the lot, and the ones that were getting washed were smaller than compact. Forget about SUV’s. Then they send you to their sister company Enterprise who gives you a run around and wants to charge you an arm an a leg/ tells you you can’t apply your national reservation at enterprise, despite being told at National that you could do so. Terrible customer service from both managers and lack of efficiency protocols at both HOU & IAH.

2022-05-31National Emerald Club never disappoints! I was going out of town for a friends birthday and decided to drive since the prices to fly were out of control ($700 for a 30 minute flight). I chose the luxury option($275), cause it was a long drive and I wanted to be comfortable. When I got there, National had an Audi A4 waiting, not what I was expecting, but it was very nice. Great ride and great fuel economy. Spent $110 on gas in total, including the fill up before returning. Got back to National and apparently there was an error on their end. Not sure what happened, but I only ended up paying $97 for the car. A bit over $200…not bad for a great car rental experience! Amos the shuttle driver was great, as was the staff behind the counter and the guys working the car lot…very friendly and professional, with great attitudes!

2022-06-27Made a reservation, showed up right on time and had to wait 40+ minutes for truck. We were in line with 30-40 other customers as zero vehicles were ready to be rented. Staff was nice and accommodating, but this is unacceptable. Luckily I was not facing a time constraint. There were other customers who were unfortunately. As mentioned, I had a reservation and was emailed and told that you were ready for my arrival.(not quite..)Once we got the truck everything was pretty good. Could have been a little cleaner, especially the windows and mirrors!!!When dropping off, a free day was applied, which was nice. I did request it to go to my free days for future rentals but was applied to this bill mistakenly.

2022-07-22Very courteous and knowledgeable staff. I was surprised on how helpful they were. These days you never know. The vehicle was brand new very clean and very nice. I would definitely rent from National again. I think they have the upper hand on the competition. Just outstanding service and vehicles.

2022-04-05Nice facility! Easy pick up and check out. Being an emerald member definitely has its perks for an easy transition. I selected my car and on my way out I realized that the wiper fluid was empty, Tameka at the check out was super kind and helpful and offered to fill it up but it was just “ I’m letting you know “ deal. Again great car rental program that offers clean low mile cars for rent.

2022-05-02Not a higher rating due to the fact I was only returning a car from a different rental company. But that being said the staff that I had an interaction with was very courteous and polite. My wife has to use a cane but the lady was not pushy or trying to hurry us along. Much appreciated!

2022-05-04When we first arrived we couldn’t find the car we rented. After speaking to a representative they were trying to figure out where it was too. They ended up borrowing one from another company this process took about 90 minutes. Yes this seems like a horrible experience however the representatives kept us informed and also compensated us for the time we had to wait. Thank you for the great customer service at Hobby Airport.

2022-07-11This company and their staff are very unprofessional. I went to a company retreat with my fellow coworkers. On July 09,2022 I was returning one of the four cars that was rented. I was driving a 2022 Jeep Cherokee. As I was entering the lot, I noticed a couple of lanes that stated return. I chose one of the empty lanes, and as I was approaching a red Chrysler stopped right in front of me and a lady jumped out of the car screaming why would I not follow the other cars. I told her I apologize I did not see anyone or hear anyone stating I could not go through the return lane. She then screamed yea whatever just leave it there. I got off the car with the keys in my hand and went to another suv to get my belongings. She then started screaming where are the keys? Where are the keys? I then turned around and went and attempted to give them to her. She screamed leave them in the car. My boss then asked what was going on and I told him what was going on. She started screaming again that she was not screaming. She then got in the Chrysler 300 and started speeding down the return lane. There are multiple witnesses that observed her less than unprofessional behavior. When the supposed Manager was called, he just stood there and did nothing to diffuse the situation. I hope the owner does something to handle the situation, so this does not happen to anyone else.
